Could you write a little bit more on Endurance
Hey, thanks for your prompt! Endurance is getting to be quite the old DotU lotura one-shot, but it seemed like a good challenge for writing in past tense again. So, here we go!
Endurance Part 2
Princess Allura stood in the entryway of the large room, holding her sleeping baby tight in her arms, face tense, her golden hair straggling curls down her shoulder. “Are you sure the Garrison is…safe?” she asked quietly.
On the walk through the Galaxy Garrison, various officers eyed Allura with a mix of horror and pity as she carried the bastard child of Crown Prince Lotor of the Drule.
Keith turned back to her, waving his hand. “These are quarters for royalty and ambassadors,” he said. “Fortified against airstrikes, earthquakes, and especially evil Drule princes, alright?” His face softened. “We won’t let anything get to you here.”
Her heart sunk, even as she managed a weak smile. “Of course, but, um. But that’s not what I’m worried about.” She stepped in, daring to pull back the blanket around her sleeping baby, revealing his chubby lavender cheek. “I’m worried someone will take my son from me. Maybe from the Alliance, or—or maybe even King Zarkon will find us.”
Keith sat on a chair beside the large bed, tiredly leaning his jacketed elbows on his knees. “Princess,” he said gently. “No one’s gonna take the kid away. People here are just, you know, concerned about your health.”
“I’m fine,” she retorted shortly, breath hitching. Her wrist still crinkled with a bandage from her IV, her eyes bagged with exhaustion. “The hospital released me, didn’t they?”
“It’s not just your physical health we’re all worried about.”
Allura’s eyes burned with tears as she held his gaze before breaking away to ghost toward the well-built, white-painted crib by the bed. “You don’t think I can do it,” she said. She leaned over to settle the snoozing baby on the crib bed, tucking in his little arms with the blanket before pulling away. “You don’t think I can emotionally handle being a mother and coming back to Team Voltron, after…all that has happened.”
Keith bit his lip. “I don’t know, can you? I mean, this is a lot to work through for anybody.”
She ran a hand absentmindedly over her still-slightly swollen stomach, the empire waist of her dress wrinkling beneath her fingers.
She knew Lotor would want her to play weak. To play the innocent, helpless victim, to save herself instead of speaking the truth—that they had willingly loved, willingly created life together.
(But maybe there was a third way? One that would give her power to help Lotor escape from prison?)
And then her eyes hardened, her fingers clenching into her dress with determination. “Don’t worry, Keith,” Allura said. “My fever made it hard to think for a bit, but Lotor didn’t break me. I’m ready to prove to him and the rest of the Drule empire that Voltron still stands.”
---------
Several days passed in the whirlwind of settling back onto Earth, with Princess Allura more confidently carrying around her sleepy, giggly baby son. He leaned his heavy cheek against her shoulder as she held him tightly to her.
“I don’t know if this is a good idea,” Hunk whispered to her as they walked down the darkened hallway, with a set of guards trailing behind them. “I mean, it’s Lotor, you know?”
“I know who it is, Hunk,” she said, eyes determined. On that day, she wore full royal regalia, the color returning to her pale skin as it flushed with health. Her long, pink skirts slid quietly against the stone floor. “But I need to do this. I need it for me, you understand?”
Hunk glanced over at Keith, who flanked Allura on the other side.
Keith raised his hands helplessly, waving to Allura, as if to say, She has a mind of her own, don’t look at me.
Allura’s heart skipped beats as they passed cells with various Drule warriors crouched in the corners of their cells, yellow eyes trained on her curiously and inspecting the baby in her arms—clearly of Drule heritage.
The closer they approached Lotor’s cell, the greater the security. Hunk called out, carrying a blaster, “Look alive, people. This here is Princess Allura, and ain’t no one allowed to even look at her the wrong way, you got that?”
Garrison soldiers flurried around them, raising additional weapons to circle Princess Allura protectively.
And then they stopped at the final prison cell, cloaked mostly in darkness save for a glimmer of light from a flickering, nearby fluorescent light.
“Okay, princess,” Keith said tensely. “This is his cell. Whatever you wanna say, you can say it, and then we’ll get you back upstairs for dinner, alright?”
“I’m okay, Keith,” she said distantly, readjusting the baby in her arms.
And then she stepped forward, peering into the cell, skin chilling in the damp cold.
Her heart stopped.
Lotor sat on the dirty floor, his powerful limbs heavily shackled and simple tunic streaked with dried mud. His matted white hair streaked against a sweaty, bruised cheek as he glanced up at her. His yellow eyes widened, the cat-like pupils dilating in relief at the sight of her before tightening in fear. “Allura,” he whispered.
Her voice wavered as she stood before him, skin chilling in the damp cold. “That would be Princess Allura of Arus to you,” she said, voice wavering as she raised her chin. “Kneel before the mother of your child.”
Lotor exhaled, a mild horror in him that she would visit his prison cell, and he slipped forward, his bound wrists crunching against the stone to drag himself toward the bars. His voice broke hard as he rasped to her, “I cannot bow to you properly in these chains, for my waist is anchored to the wall. Release me, and I will bow to you then.”
She pressed her lips together tightly before narrowing her eyes. “You are not to be released,” she retorted. She hid her trembling fingers in the thick blankets around their baby, who cooed in his sleep, his white curls ticking her chin. “You are to stand trial for your many crimes, against not only me but also against the Alliance. It is unlikely for you to receive anything less than the death penalty.”
Lotor tilted his head, searching her eyes to understand her ploy. An old mischief rose in him. “Would you mourn for me, princess?”
Yes, her heart cries.
“No,” she said shakily.
“Then why do you appear to me now?” he demanded.
Allura licked her bottom lip before saying as if in royal decree, “It is so that you know what you do not have, for I remain the Princess of Arus, and this child of mine will be raised in Arusian ways of peace and diplomacy. He will never know that his father was a son of Zarkon, and the legacy of your bloodline will never corrupt his heart.”
As she spoke, her words growing with fervor, she enacted her plan. A key—a single key to a scout ship she’d filched from the flight deck of the Garrison—slipped down the inside band of her skirt, falling onto the floor. For his eyes alone, she darted her gaze to the stone, stepping forward to slide the key just under the bars, where no one but him would see.
In his chains in the corner of the cell, Lotor’s eyes brightened with tears. His fists clenched with anticipation. “So, you have come to deliver news of my impending death, then.”
She swallowed hard before backing away, eyes burning. “In twelve hours, your trial will begin. And I will not be there. Instead, I will sit upon the great balconies of the Garrison, dining on my favorite dishes and reveling in the peace and finery due my station—all the things you denied me while I was your captor. And I will not see your trial or your death. So this is a goodbye, once and for all, Prince Lotor of the Drule.”
Allura turned away, eyes burning in want to turn back around and wrench open the jail cell—unchain Lotor and hold him just as tightly as she held their son—
Lotor’s voice rose with a halted laugh, his chains clinking as he secretly grabbed for the key while wrapping a hand around one of the heavy cell bars. “Oh, you wicked woman!” he called to her in a ragged boom. “Whether in chains or circlets, you still order the very stars of my universe. I will die a happy man, knowing that I am reflected in our child. I will live on, through you.”
His scarred fingers tightened upon the additional key, clamping down as hard as his mind held to the additional information she had given about time and location.
Keith gently grabbed onto Allura’s shoulders. “Come on, princess, let’s get you out of this terrible place.” He leveled a hard glare at Lotor. “And away from this trash.”
Allura managed a brief glance backward in worry as the guards guided her away, a slight hope rising in her as Lotor leaned his forehead against the bars, staring back with earnestness.
And his old, tell-tale calculation.

i am as always thinking about voltron. because i have issues. but i really and truly cannot get over vld’s flanderisation of lance’s character, it actually aggravates me to no end!!!
in the franchise, lance has been established to be an ace-flyer, incredibly perceptive (specifically in dotu and vttd, the source material + the closest sequel!), impulsive, and cocky—but his cockiness had SUBSTANCE. he knew he was that good. to me vforce has one of the best lance characterisations in how they get him: he’s a great flier, he’s a dependable figure of authority, he’s snarky, he bites back, he has the right amount of silliness and pettiness dotu lance had. in vforce, everyone could get teased by the narrative! it wasn’t one or two characters taking the brunt (hi vld hunk and lance!).
but in vld, they practically cut out all those parts of lance, the flying, the perceptiveness, his confidence, and then give it to keith (whose original personality had been then given to shiro). they leave him with the cockiness, but there’s nothing to back it up. they orchestrate keith and lance’s rivalry to be one-sided and terribly unbalanced because keith IS better than lance in a lot of things. this was never the case before, they had strengths and weaknesses that the other complemented and would sometimes cause conflict (vttd is a great example of this!).
i think the reason why it bothers me so much, is because this is first time lance has been latino and not white (not counting golion’s isamu in this). the first time! and the moment he is, they take away his skills and his strengths, have him bullied by the narrative and made into a joke, never taken seriously, and dialed up his flirtatiousness to over 9000. the only time i can actually recall lance being flirtatious in the franchise was in ddp’s run, but even then it wasn’t nearly as prominent or excessive as vld lance’s nonstop flirting. he gets keith’s leftover lion, he gets a sword like keith, he’s allura’s second choice, he never really finds his place in the team.
the arc of feeling like a seventh wheel or insecurity wouldn’t bother me if he had history in the franchise of this, if his character wasn’t established the way it was, but he doesn’t! and its not like vld’s narrative does much to disprove lance’s insecurity—in fact it winds up doing the opposite most of the time. on the surface vld and dotu lance seem similar, but deeper down i feel like the writers just…lost the plot. it’s not that you can’t branch out in reboots or explore other pathways, but it’s just so blatant to me in how they’d taken so much from him and passed it off to other characters. where’s the love for the source material in that? where’s the respect? i don’t know, maybe i’m just going on and on, but it haunts me.

ME AND MY ROOMMATE HAVE CONCLUDED OUR VLD REWATCH.
Full review under the cut:
The plan was always “watch until it’s unwatchable” and our final cutoff was a few episodes into season 4. For fellow Voltron veterans it was right at Narti’s death, literally mid episode.
The reason was that this season is a CONSIDERABLE writing drop off. I think throughout the show the writing was “pretty interesting! But still a kids show.”
Season four is… garbage. The pacing on every episode was a complete drag and completely unwatchable. We had already agreeded to kinda stop at season 4 but god. It’s literally so bad.
A lot of vaguely interesting plot threads are established in season three, they’re all followed through TERRIBLY.
This doesn’t even get into when they made Shiro gay and immediately pulled bury your gays. Or Keith’s boring but hot alien mom. Or Lotor’s whole slavery thing. This was all in later seasons.
It just sucked BEFORE then. And a bunch of us kept watching because we were sooooo sure this time Klance would be canon for real. Which btw, was absolutely set up to be a thing in season three, then obviously ignored in season four, funniest case of queerbait ever.
Anyways, Lance, Hunk, and Allura deserved better than this show. All of them were so good. On to the DotU rewatch!!!!!

Disclaimer: I don't own Voltron Defender of the Universe, Voltron Force, or Voltron Legendary Defender.
Summary: DotU Allura falls asleep and is able to see into two alternate realities.
Author Note: This is Kallura (DotU and VF but not VLD). The scenes DotU Allura sees takes place in Season 2 of VLD between episodes 9 and 12 and Season 1 of VF between episodes 19 and 20.
"Seeing Into Other Realities"
Allura was snuggled up against her husband, not minding his bare chest at all. She loved being close to him, and sleeping against him gave her a feeling of safety and love. She knew her sleeping in his arms allowed him to relax and sleep, even if it was just one arm wrapped around her waist. At that moment as she was drifting off to sleep, she could feel the gentle pressure of Keith's head against hers.
%%%
Allura opened her eyes and looked around, slightly confused. She wasn't in bed or even in her castle anymore. She wasn't even sure she was on her planet anymore.
"On your left, Lance!"
"Thanks, Keith! You've got one at 6!"
"Good eye, Sharpshooter."
Allura turned around at hearing the voices and was faced with seven individuals that were familiar and not familiar at the same time. She noticed that they didn't seem to be able to see her, so she took her time in looking at them.
She didn't recognize the one in the black armor at all, but the ones in the red, blue, green, and yellow armor were similar enough to her fellow pilots to hazard a guess at who was who. However, the two others on the bridge were completely unfamiliar to her, so unless someone said their names, she couldn't even attempt to guess.
The female in the center smiled. "Well done, Paladins. You repelled the Galra again. Coran, set some coordinates, and I'll wormhole us away from here."
"Yes, Princess." The orange haired male replied, working on some holographic screens. "Course laid in."
Allura didn't pay attention to the entire procedure as her gaze was drawn to the one in red. He was definitely Keith, but this Keith's eye color was different than hers. Her Keith had black eyes, whereas this one had purple. It was definitely a pretty color, but she was confused as to where her counterpart was. However, if the orange haired male was Coran and he addressed the female as princess, it could mean the female was her counterpart, but why wasn't she and her Keith closer or even speaking to each other? Maybe they hadn't realized their feelings for each other?
"Good job, Shiro. You took out a large portion of fighters. Lance, you defended the aft portion of the particle barrier admirably."
"I do my best, Princess," Shiro replied.
"Thanks, pretty lady," Lance responded with a wink.
"Hunk, Pidge, you two were a wonderful team, watching each other's backs."
"Thanks, Allura," Pidge replied, and Hunk echoed her sentiment.
Allura (DotU) waited for her counterpart to compliment Keith, but it never happened. She didn't even acknowledge his part at all. Allura (DotU) looked over at Keith, whose eyes were downcast.
"I'm going to go train," he said suddenly and stood up.
"I'll go with you," Shiro offered.
"Shiro, we need to discuss how to take down the Galra," Allura called out.
Shiro hesitated for a moment before locking eyes with Lance and gesturing for him to follow. Lance nodded. "Hey, Mullet. Wait for me!"
Allura (DotU) didn't know what her counterpart's problem with Keith was, but she didn't think she was going to get answers here, so she followed the two Paladins. She found them walking down the corridor side by side.
"Even though she didn't say it, you did a good job too. We made a good team," Lance said. He stretched his arms over his head. "Man, I don't know what Allura's problem is."
"You know what it is, Lance. She found out that I'm part Galra and has decided that she hates me. I don't blame her for her reaction. I mean, the Galra destroyed her planet and her people."
"But that was 10,000 years ago! You weren't even born back then. Coran doesn't blame you. Why should she?"
"I don't know. I just wish we could go back to being friends like we had been."
Allura (DotU) stopped following the two Paladins as she tried to process what she learned.  Apparently this Keith wasn't completely human, and the Allura of this reality hated him for it, even going as far as to ignore his contribution to the cause.
She looked up to see if she could see the Paladins and realized she was in a different place altogether. She was in a different castle again, but there were similarities she to her own.
Just then, she heard an unfamiliar voice call out, "Daniel, slow down!"
Suddenly, a younger boy ran through her as if she wasn't even there before he slammed into the opposite wall. He groaned, muttering, "Snart," before falling onto his back on the floor.
Two people rushed over. One was another younger boy, but the other one was wearing green with a visor over his eyes. The boy approached Daniel and helped him up, while the male in green typed on something on his arm. "As fascinating as seeing your fastest speed is, it might be better to see how you can stop without slamming into a wall."
"I don't know, Pidge. I quite enjoyed seeing him run into walls," a girl about the two younger boys ages called out.
"Aw, Larmina, you know you love me," Daniel replied.
"Do I though?" Larmina quipped back.
"Hopefully you at least get along with him since you are all future pilots of Voltron." A blonde woman came into the room. She was wearing blue and black and had straight blonde hair and green eyes.
"Aunt Allura, I do get along with him," Larmina sighed. "I just don't like him like that."
Allura (DotU) stared at her counterpart. Since when did she have green eyes and straight hair? For that matter, since when did she have a niece? She didn't have any siblings. She was so busy with comparing her differences that she missed another male's entrance...until he spoke. "As much as I appreciate you testing the abilities of your Voltcom, you should really brush up on your teamwork skills."
"Does that mean I can do some training in Black Lion, especially since he's fixed?" Daniel asked.
"No."
"Snart," Daniel muttered.
"Keith's right. Teamwork is useful off the field as well," Allura replied.
Allura (DotU) stared at that reality's Keith. He looked so different from her Keith. He had a darker skin tone, crystal blue eyes, and, most shockingly, short hair. She shook her head. Keith doesn't look good with short hair.
The longer she looked at that reality's Keith the more upset she got. She looked up at the ceiling, tears sliding down her cheeks. "I don't want to see any more realities. I want to go home."
%%%
Keith felt movement in his arm and roused a bit. He was worried about his wife, especially when he saw the tears on her cheeks. He wiped the tears away as best he could without moving the arm that was wrapped around her waist. He patted her cheek gently. "Allura! Allura, wake up please!"
Allura's eyes flew open, and she sat up, gasping for breath.
"'Llura?"
Allura turned to her right and saw her husband, his hair hanging over his shoulder in a braid. His black eyes were showing nothing but concern for her. She threw her arms around him, and he pulled her into his lap. "Sweetheart, what happened?"
"I-I-"
"Okay. You need to calm down first. Breathe deeply. In, out. In and out." Keith stroked her hair before cupping her face. "I love you my queen."
"I love you, my prince." Taking one more deep breathe, Allura began her tale. "I think I saw into two other realities. There were versions of us, but they were really different. One Allura absolutely hated her reality's Keith, who didn't want to stay near her; the other one we looked really different." She gave a watery giggle. "I think the most disturbing thing was that one of the Keiths had short hair."
"I will always be here for you." He gently put his forehead against hers. "And I'll never consider cutting my hair."

So I’ve basically found myself back into my voltron phase and felt like updating my ocs story and practice making edits again.
Oddly enough, back in 2018-2019 when I was sketching out her possible 80s design as the show was ending, Maximi was originally what her 80s counterpart name would be but once I came to that conclusion, I decided that both her 80s and VLD name would be the same,as I preferred it over her old outdated name.
Going off of brief readings of both DOTU and GoLion, the planet Romelle was from was Pollux (dotu) and Heracles (GoLion), Maximi’s planet in the 80s would be called Helios (in VLD, it’s Helior, but for the 80s we’re going with the Greek/Roman mythology names) and basically she and her people are solar powered flappers and gatsby style aliens that are incredibly eco friendly, so really I think her episode(s) would resemble environmental specials of the 80s and 90s? Anyway, I didn’t go too crazy with her 80s design, the only ‘alien’ thing about her are the pointy ears, but even then Allura/Fala and Romelle/Amue don’t really look all that alien either. Like her VLD design, I made her skin tone more similar to that of Hunk/Tsuyoshi, and she only has a couple freckles on her face compared to the beige speckles on her VLD design. Unlike her VLD counterpart, 80s Maximi was never enslaved or imprisoned by the Galra.
Following another theme separate from voltron, her English/Dotu voice claim would be Helen Slater (supergirl in the 80s, specifically 1984 like these voltron cartoons, heh, who knew?), like in VLD, Maximi’s voice claim would be Melissa Benoist (cw supergirl) since in both versions, the Zunir/Heliorites share similarities to kryptonians in being solar powered aliens but unlike kryptonians, are not bulletproof or have super strength or have super speed, X-ray vision, or frost/wind breath all at once. Plus the more I watched clips of Melissa Benoist’s performances, as well as clips from the 1984 supergirl movie, the more I could see the voices fitting. Also, the Zunir/heliorites have incredible heat tolerance and each ‘breed’ possess unique abilities, such as plant manipulation w/ durability, lava bending w/ incredible strength, and flight + thermokinesis (that can manifest as fire bending, welding, heat vision, star bolts, etc depending on the individual) at least in VLD. In the 80s, heliorites are solar powered flapper gatsby aliens with green thumbs and are able to fly, both counterparts draw power from their suns and are basically ‘human’ if drained, which I guess could be another similarity to kryptonians.
Tbh it’s about time I got to this oc meme…yrs after the show ended and the fandom drastically shrunk…but at least some people are still around making ocs, fixits, fanart and appreciating these characters.

I've only started dotu and I'm banging through DDP pretty fast; it is genuinely fascinating to see how every iteration plays with the characters personalities and skill sets. DDP plays pretty strong to mechanical genius (and physically intimidating) Hunk and tech genius Pidge (I've heard Dotu doesn't---raises a question of why/how these archetypes did get tacked on). Sven is the sharp shooter and has already told Lance to fuck off once which is kind of funny

Lion placements? Don't mind if I do!
Black lion: Jay goes here as the team doesn't often fight his plans and while he gets caught up in his work sometimes (a la vf Keith) he does care about his team and doing right by them
Red lion: Theresa! Jay barely gets ideas from anybody else when it comes to the next step in his plans, and she always hops in with something, especially if it's from her visions. She's a great fighter and is pretty hot headed if we specifically look at phantom rising, also again with the instincts guiding her and those count her 6th sense
Green lion: Atlanta! Green is pretty vague over what kind of lion they are (ex red is fire, blue is water) but we essentially get confirmation in v3d that green is the lion of life/nature! Nobody else is as connected to it as Atlanta is, she's a hunter, but she's also an environmentalist. Comparing her to Pidge, he wasn't always the genius of the team, he was just a kid with a big heart who always wanted to do good for others and have a good time. Though we could also argue that green represents curiosity since vld described something similar and only THEN will agree to Odie being there but as a co-pilot for Atlanta
Blue Lion: in a five-man team, one of them is ALWAYS the heart, what keeps the team together. Unfortunately, in COTT, the entire team is split up, and they seem like they're only there to fulfill their destiny and not because they chose to stick it out for their friends. However, only Neil shows the ability to be this, he was the last person for the team to find to make them complete, though he's narcissistic he isn't uncaring and often goes into the fight to protect the team and sacrifices what's important to him to make sure everyone comes out okay. Also, literally all of Golden Boy showing character development for him in this direction
Yellow Lion: through vld allura we learn that yellow like is the most caring and kind, able to take the most for others and support them through time times. That sounds like Herry because he's always there to help out and is a big softie <3, but this also includes Archie as a co-pilot in my eyes. He's hot headed sure but so was dotu hunk because he always got angry when something went against his morals of protecting those who can't protect themselves. In little box of horrors, Archie releases a little hope in the world and puts himself on the line not just to save hope but to help Atlanta who was slowly dying
this is also kind of ignoring the supporting role that allura originally had and coran who was an advisor but nobody fits those roles so until im convinced otherwise they're open
Voltron AU
So yeah. With the Vancouver VOs being in Voltron Force (2011) as well, this should be around sooner than later. Anyways, on with the thing.
Jay - black lion, since black is always the leader
Herry - yellow, fitting as well, since Ty Olsson did Hunk
Odie - green, since it's usually the bookish one. Plus Doron did Vince. Vince was a cadet, but after Pidge retired, Vince became the new Green pilot
Archie - red, since it fits his temper
Neil - I want to say blue, but water doesn't exactly fit Neil. So yeah... I could put in Atlanta, or Theresa, since sometimes Allura is usually the blue pilot. Oh, yeah and then there was Sven. All up in the air...
