Video game and anime song lyrics stuck in my head:
"You lose the battles that you never fight." - Break Through it All, Sonic Frontiers
"All too calm, you hide yourself from reality / Do you call it solitude? Do you call it liberty? / When all the world turns away to leave you lonely." - The World, .hack//SIGN
"Maybe you're looking for someone to blame / Fighting for air while you circle the drain" - In Circles, Transistor

|| To Celebrate a sudden surge of fans wanting the original .Hack tetralogy to be re-made for current gen consoles, I decided to try another coloring bit. This time I had to play with the pages because: 1) the scans that are online aren't top 100% quality (not the fault of the poster as who'd want to destroy this beautiful manga just to scan? :3) and 2) I didn't want to destroy my own copy of this. lines are a bit funky because of it, but I was not about to redraw Blackrose's hair. Lol.
Hope you all enjoy!

One random day, on a bridge in Mac Anu, a popular meme was re-enacted.
For Those of you unaware, the original .hack//(pronounced "dot hack") games by CyberConnect2, starred the character Kite, a new player to the in-universe MMORPG "The World". There have been many iterations of The World in the .hack// franchise, and also as many character expies of Kite. So much so they made their own visual guide to tell you who's who.
So, I decided to take 5 'Kites' from the franchise and recreate the Spider-Man pointing meme.
From top left to bottom middle, we have:
Kite, protagonist of the original .hack// games(Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarantine, "IMOQ" for short)
Shugo, the protagonist of the anime and manga .hack//Legend of the Twilight
Sakuya, the lead character in the anime OVA .hack//Quantum
Sora/Kite, aka Sora Yuuki, the protagonist of the Feature film .hack//The Movie: Beyond the World, and guest character in the PSP game .hack//Link.
"Tri-Edge"/Azure Kite, the initial antagonist of .hack//G.U.

In the spirits of christmas eve, What do you think would your fav aoex characters want for christmas (and what would they realistically get as a gift from their friends &/ family ?)
This is a fun one!!
Let's see
Mephisto - He'd want merch for anime and games. However, the stuff he'd want would be hard to obtain (hence not having it) so nobody would get him it. Nobody would probably get him gifts either, if I'm being realistic (rip mephisto). Rin might feel a little bad and give him dinner leftovers though. Amaimon would throw a rock at his head. He'd just end up buying his own gifts
Shura - I feel like she'd be practical and just want clothes. Bras, underwear, socks. Arthur would get her cute socks and Lightning would get her the tackiest clothes he can find. Mephisto would probably give her a gift but not label it from him, but she'd figure out pretty quickly it's from him with the pink and polka dots everywhere. He'd probably give her flowers and jewelry she'd never wear and just collects dusts on her dresser
Arthur - I don't see him as super materialistic. I think he'd just want to spend time with his friends and would spend time with Shura and Lightning drinking and chatting for the holiday :] (Shura gets him some new ties anyways, she says the one he normally wears is ugly. He's drunk and nearly cries at the sentiment)
Lightning - He would probably want money. And a Lego set. Arthur gives him cash but gripes about how he never paid him back last month when he lent him money. He doesn't get the Lego set because nobody knows if he was serious or joking (he was half serious)
Amaimon - He doesn't understand the concept and asks for abstract things, like being powerful and feared or respected. Of course, not being able to buy this, Mephisto just gets him some video games (the more violent, the better. Probably shooters and hack n slash type games). He also tells him his ideas are stupid and he should be more practical, hence the rock being thrown at his head
Shiemi - she says she just wants to spend time with her friends. But everyone gets her stuff. Suguro gets her garden supplies, Renzo gives her some CDs of his brother's music, Koneko gets her socks and hair clips, Izumo gets her shoujo manga, Yukio gets her a potted plant. Rin can't afford much so he makes dinner, but he gives her an origami crane made from a gum wrapper last minute and she loves it
That's all I have energy for right now, I'd speculate on all the characters but my brain is goop. Thank you so much for the ask, I love getting em!!!

Molly's clown outfit from a while back is so cute and whimsical. What was your inspiration and thought process going in? Also, would you mind sharing the pattern for it? What sort of places do you recommend to get patterns from in general? Thank you so much
Thank you for the kind words!
Last April, I attended a lecture on the philosophy of clowning. It was all about finding joy and whimsy in life, stomping out seriousness, that sort of thing. So that was my inspiration!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For inspiration, I looked at both actual clown outfits, clown dolls, historical clowns/ pierrots/ jesters, and modern Halloween costumes. There’s lots of different areas to draw inspiration from, but for my first clown outfit, I decided to keep it simple. I went with the most basic harlequin color block style. Normally it’s a onesie, but I was into making separates at the time and didn’t have time to draft a whole new pattern.
My fabric choices were guided by what Joanns had in stock. I wanted polka dots and very colorful/ 90’s kidcore/ rainbow aesthetic. I wound up with two teal and white polka dot fat quarters, a half yard of a rainbow print, a roll of rainbow baby rick rack, and two kinds of narrow polka dot grosgrain ribbons.
I also used stash materials including red bias tape, narrow teal ribbons, solid red grosgrain ribbon and baby rick rack, white cotton fabric, red buttons, lightweight interfacing, and variegated thread.
For patterns, you don’t need any specific one. As long as you have a basic dress pattern with a puff sleeve, and a bloomer pattern, you can hack it into Mollypop’s clown separates :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used:
basic dress bodice, lengthened to shirt length. (Do NOT cut bodice front on the fold. Add a seam allowance at the center front to allow for splicing together the two different fabrics).
Long puffed sleeves— short ones can also be lengthened. One of each fabric. These were hemmed, trimmed with rick rack, and gathered with elastic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A bloomers pattern and rectangular waistband to make the puffy pants. The pant legs were also hemmed and trimmed with rick rack. Then they got an external casing from red ribbon to run elastic through. Gathered top to the waistband, put a snap at center back to close.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make the neck ruffle, I trimmed a white rectangle with more rick rack, then gathered it. Then I bound the neckline with a bit of bias cut polka dot. Another piece of red ribbon was used as a sash.
I drafted her hat from a cone. Any witch hat pattern could be used instead. I took inspiration from the “brimless” witch hats in the manga Witch Hat Atelier.
Her braids got wire braided in, just like I saw done in my sister’s school play when we were kids.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, her big smiley face sticker is from a real clown at a clown event I attended at the university :)
I need to reblog to talk about patterns, b/c I’ve hit the post limit :(

I was re reading one of the dot hack mangas and I swear. I have been going back on this thought for almost over 10 years now. I could be tripping, but it feels like the manga took this iconic image from Chobits and the artist just took it, change some things about it, and put the character nearly in the same pose. The more I look at the art from the manga the more wrong I see from it.

Cipher Academy Chapter 1: Security For Dummies
A new manga series from NISIOISIN in the field that I've studied the most through my University degree? Sign me up! Is what I said. After reading, I have different thoughts on the overall quality.
The short of it, if you're not super into ciphers or cryptography but like the "cool" factor of breaking codes and stuff, you'll probably find a way to enjoy the first chapter. However, if you're looking for something deeper, I don't think you'll be walking away overly satisfied.
Moving into it, the story starts by introducing our main character, Iroha, to the grueling existence they chose to sign up for. They're in over their head, have no idea what they're doing and are sinking faster than they can swim. It's better than handholding introduction, but things suddenly get interesting.
Tumblr media
Iroha is quickly flung into the even deeper end as a girl from another class asks them to hide her from the girl that sits behind Iroha in class. They manage to successfully hide the girl, which in turn nets them the gift of some very obviously tampered with glasses. These glasses are what allows Iroha to solve her assignment, which I found an interesting idea that gets expanded on towards the chapter's end.
However, before that, we have a Cryptographer's nightmare. Iroha's classmate, Toushusai, challenge Iroha with a "cipher". I use quotation marks because it's sort of like the bare minimum for the consideration of a cipher. The decryption process that Iroha goes through is only possible in regards to their answer. How would you create the cipher for someone else's name? You would need to find a way to reference something in regards to their name that had to do with the ordering of the prefectures. And that's where it falls apart. You have a process, you have a key, but the extra step removes it from a cipher. The ordering is fine, but the inability for a standardized input isn't. There is not a well defined procedure to reproduce the decryption process if it weren't Iroha's name. What they're playing around with is a code, a puzzle, something closer to not a cipher than a cipher. And that's not even mentioning the fact that we as readers didn't have access to the full suite of required information.
Tumblr media
Humor me a dive into ciphers. The one almost everyone will know is the Caesar Cipher, where you shift the alphabet a certain amount of numbers. It's the perfect example of how a cipher should work. Standardized input produces standardized output, no special input is required to encrypt the message. The same with the output, as the definition for a cipher states, "... a series of well-defined steps that can be followed as a procedure.". As I complained about above, to successfully decrypt for a given message, you'd need to use a specific text each time, for each unique message. Not only that, but the text must contain the message in plaintext in the first place, which completely nullifies the concept of encryption. So this is not a cipher, but a look into a connect the dots like a cipher. And to me, as a person with quite a bit of experience in cryptography, remains both disappointing and a little insulting.
So, is it worth reading? I guess you could say that. In the same way that you might not care too much about how hacking works in movies or elsewhere, if you're not knowledgeable in regards to Cryptography it probably won't cause you any problems, but it's definitely worth having a large asterisk next to this first chapter. This isn't Cryptography, nor is what they show an actual cipher. There are similar steps and ideas, But just because A + B and A x B share A & B, does not mean they make for the same thing. So, my recommendation, take it with a grain of salt and see where it ends up. They could improve things as the understanding of the readers deepens, or they could continue along this trend of complex and confusing pieces that don't quite form what they're advertising.

I never dug particularly into the series but I know that dot Hack spans video games, shows, movies, novels, and manga. I think at least some of those act as direct sequels to other parts but I'm unsure.
Last night while I was in bed I was thinking about a series where each individual part of it was released in a separate format; for example, Part 1 is released as a book, Part 2 as a movie, Part 3 as a video game, et cetera. Do you know of anything that fits this bill, even somewhat?
It's a fairly common pattern if you count the whole "TV show's plot continued as a series of films" phenomenon. Assuming you've already ruled that out as too obvious (or you're counting film and television as the same medium), the next most common pattern in my experience is "book or film whose direct sequel is a video game" (i.e., in the sense that the video game is a direct continuation, rather than an adaptation of any particular prior instalment), or occasionally vice versa.
The earliest example of the latter I can come up with off the top of my head is Zilpha Keatley Snyder's Green Sky Trilogy, published from 1975 through 1978, whose overarching plot is continued – and ultimately resolved – in the 1984 video game Below the Root.* Other examples include the 1997 video game Parasite Eve (direct sequel to the 1995 novel of the same name, though the English localisation takes numerous liberties to ensure that familiarity with the novel is unnecessary, as it wouldn't be published in English until 2005), or Turbo Kid (video game, 2024), direct sequel to Turbo Kid (feature film, 2015). Going the other direction, you can easily make an argument for Final Fantasy VII (1997), a video game whose direct sequel, Final Fantasy: Advent Children (2005), is an animated feature film.
As for examples spanning three or more separate mediums, I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'm sure they exist. Maybe someone in the notes can come up with one!
* Interestingly, apart from being one of the earliest examples of a series of novels continued in video game form, Below the Root is often cited as one of the early prototypes of what would become the metroidvania formula; it's really more of a text adventure with light platforming elements, but the outlines are there.

So I remember enjoying dot hack IMOQ and to a lesser degree dot hack GU back on the PS2. The difference had less to do with the gameplay and GU being darker but more to do with loving R1 and the dot hack SIGN anime. I remember being utterly furious that dot hack GU got the PS4 remaster job when dot hack IMOQ needed it more due to being released near the start of the PS2's lifespan.
But I got curious about the sheer number of area locations.
(I also am aware I rarely talk about the series in spite of my Balmung of the Azure Sky avatar/pfp but it's mostly because I'd be talking way more about the Phases and Cubia than anything released from GU anime onward.)
Now for those unaware of the series: with the dot hack franchise the games are designed like a fake MMO because the setting itself is an early example of a VRMMO series. It was out long before Sword Art Online, although Log Horizon has dot hack beat in turn (while still being its own unique thing with Log Horizon more of an en-masse Isekai than the objective secret-known-to-few nightmare that The World is). Each area in-setting of dot hack is supposedly designed by the devs or maybe is just generated out of the box by the blackbox code "Morganna" with humans taking credit.
But because this is a real video game too, instead the area codes are used to help generate which specific style, size, element, level, and sort of drops you'll expect to find in a map. There are some areas that you access only for quest/storyline stuff. There are also some that you are blocked from reaching until you get a specific keyword through the fake forums, emails, or in-game interactions with other characters.
The key code system goes Server then a word from each three distinct codeword banks. So like the most famous example in the series is Delta Hidden Forbidden Holy Ground, but accessing it in Theta, Lambda, or Sigma for example would result in a very different map. Holy Ground is one word as some keywords are like "Sea Sand's", "No Face", or "Royal Edict".
dot hack IMOQ are spread across four games. There's a total of 5 listed servers (I forget if Omega is accessible before/after the finale), 101 word A, 103 word B, and 102 word C.
dot hack GU, which is now 3.5 games, has as far as I know 3 servers with a viable Chaos Gate (the teleportation system to reach the dungeon maps) and 150 word A, 91 word B, and 131 word C.
Even just by the basic number of words I already know this is going to be insane. I never even did more than 200 maps in one set of games, goodness... Admittedly I don't remember if any game locked some key codes off for plot reasons but this is insane.
Basic probability used: A times B times and so on, this results in the potential combinations.
IMOQ: 5 times 101 times 103 times 102 = 5305530, or 1061106 per server. That's 1.06 million combinations. Per server.
GU: 3 times 150 times 91 times 131 = 5364450, or 1788150 per server. 1.79 million combinations.
Thankfully you don't need to visit every area to complete or get everything possible but I think I now know why the characters willingly shell out for The World even setting aside it being native to their computers' OS. It's bigger than anyone could feasibly ever beat!

Starter Call for Marie/Aislynn!
Tumblr media
Marie or Aislynn as she is known in the game, is a Dot Hack OC whose avatar is a Shadow Warlock or Wavemaster. She loves to roleplay in character in the game so Aislynn comes off as mysterious, poetic, and lover of fortunes.
In real life she is a shy major geek, loving video games and manga/anime. She has a separate .Hack GU verse where she is the new Epitaph user of Fidchell and takes that role very seriously as it seems really cool to her.
She has this verse but can also be used for SAO, Log Horizon, or other mmo-type fandoms. I can also fit her in a fandomless setting in either her normal form as Marie or her magical witch-like form of Aislynn.
Like or reblog to be tagged in a starter with Aislynn!

Additional thoughts:
Star Rail's not a bubble universe. As far as I'm aware it's a different, neighboring, full-fledged universe (Alien Space manga). Just specifying.
Silver Wolf is capable of hacking REALITY, so if she's Bronie, she's definitely an older, much more capable one. Also, doesn't that ability sound familiar now?
Eyes.
Closeup of Bronya Rand's eyes:
Tumblr media
Closeup of Silver Wolf's eyes:
Tumblr media
They are DISTINCTLY different, despite their bangs keeping the same pattern (though you could take the color difference for a lighting thing). Pay attention to the circle around the pupil in Bronya Rand's eye, and the dot of color in the middle of Silver Wolf's eye.
And now... check this out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In order:
hi3 Bronya Zaychik's normal eyes (taken from her 2021 birthday CG)
Bronya's eyes during APHO (CEO Bronya PV)
Bronya's eyes after the events of APHO (CEO Bronya PV)
The normal eye design is gray concentric circles, with a notably outlined pupil area that's not too dark, just like Bronya Rand's. It's also slightly tinted brown.
The Herrscher eye design has a more silver look, and there's a dot of color in the middle over a darker pupil area, which doesn't look outlined like the regular eye design.
Model comparison (sorry, blurry):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our Bronya's eye design has changed ever since she ascended as the Herrscher of Truth/True Herrscher of Reason (literal translation).
Silver Wolf has the True Herrscher Bronya eye design, while Bronya Rand has the normal eye design.
But... Bronie in hi3 has the standard eye design, despite her odd Herrscher of Reason-like powers. Does that mean, if they are the same person, that Silver Wolf has also undergone the metamorphosis process/ascended?
Fitting reason to decide she's no longer a prey animal, no?
Silver Wolf (Honkai Star Rail) character analysis ?
(I will talk about Honkai Star Rail, an unreleased game if you wish to play that game completely blind please scroll past this post)
I haven't made a long, kinda thought out post in a while so, have this because someone sent that on discord and I just had to talk about it :
Tumblr media
To answer the question that the original OP asked : they're both real, unless mihoyo pulls a Schrodinger's cat bullshit at us.
Now the real question is : which is the one that actually originates from Honkai Star Rail bubble universe ?
That is also an easy answer : Bronya not Silver Wolf, and that's because Bronya, unlike Silver Wolf, as a set identity and actual an family member while Silver Wolf is unnamed and as far as we saw from betas, she has basically no one except Kafka.
Bronya, while it's not said on the website, has her family name listed as Rand officially, and she is the daughter of this bubble universe's Cocolia, Cocolia Rand, so she has been in the bubble universe since her birth.
Why not both ? Because so far, we never saw twice the same characters appear in any bubble universe, so I doubt that two Bronya looking basically identical can originate from the same bubble universe.
So now we can ask : is Silver Wolf from another unseen bubble universe, or, do we already know who she is ?
Well to start let's look at her physical appearance :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She has a very youthful appearance, just like most other Bronya ( HRS and APHO bronyas are the two exceptions so far), she also wear a techwear style I believe (I do not know about fashion please tell me if I'm wrong) and wears her hair in a ponytail and her hair ends with a blue fade.
This description already feels extremely similar, that's simply because that is almost a 1:1 description of Haxxor Bunny :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main difference are the two pigtails as well as the color palette : Silver Wolf as a very purple-black while Haxxor Bunny being mostly black with colorful accents, but do note that in both characters black is the primary color and the one featured the most in their outfit.
Talking about their outfits there's a small detailed that I noticed :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silver Wolf's bow is oddly similar to Haxxor Bunny's hoodie ears : both starting with metallic accessories and fade from black to blue with a dot pattern, also just the fact that Silver Wolf has bunny ears like accessory
So they're very similar in terms of their physical appearance that's for sure but they are also similar in many other ways :
Both are hackers
They both are mysterious and their complete identity is unknown to us
The prey VS predator relationship
1. Both are hackers
This is pretty direct so it will be a short segment ; both are said to be hackers, and while Bronya Zaychick is quite good with electronics on her own she was never stated to be a full on hacker, that was only Haxxor Bunny. They could have chose anyone else, or just made a new character, but they decided to use another Bronya while they already had one in the game.
2. They both are mysterious and their complete identity is unknown to us
As stated earlier for Silver Wolf, we know basically nothing about her other than : she is Kafka's accomplice and she is an excellent hacker.
For Haxxor Bunny, while we do know her name is Bronya, she goes mostly by her alias and her past is very much unknown to us, we only know that Natasha brought her to work in her café after Haxxor Bunny begged Natasha to help her (my memory of the Haxxor Bunny event is slightly blurry so I don't remember a lot of details feel free to go more into depth about this)
3. The prey VS predator relationship
Haxxor Bunny has a themes of "the prey being the predator" and "the hunter becomes the hunted" throughout her character :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her alias has the word "bunny" an animal that has many hunters and is considered an easy prey and yet she is the one who hunts down people when she has to, to add onto that, the main "antagonist" of her event story is :
Tumblr media
Yae Kasumi, a fox, an animal that actively hunts rabbits, and that shows in the story where Kasumi is hunting down Haxxor Bunny to stop her and yet in the end the one who comes out on top is Haxxor Bunny, the rabbit has won the fight against the fox.
Now we have basically nothing for Silver Wolf other than her name, but it does contains the word "wolf", a predator so it still plays in the prey/predator themes that only these two specific Bronyas have, we will have to wait and see if they do implement the same themes as Haxxor Bunny for Silver Wolf. Other thing : silver is a shade of grey and grey wolves are in fact apex predators, just a side note.
It would be fitting that the bunny who hunts becomes a wolf, an apex predator, that hunts everything.
Conclusion :
There's like way too many similarities between the two characters to be accidental, and it's not like characters from other bubble universes can't go in the Honkai Star Rail bubble universe because Honkai Impact 3rd Welt Yang is in the game.
So unless everything is just a big parallel between the two and that they aren't in fact the same character, I think Silver Wolf = Haxxor Bunny.
Now I'll just wait for mihoyo to make this whole analysis wrong and laugh at me.
