is there a way we can read your dissertation, dear one?
oh, you’re very kind to ask!! i’m afraid i’ve become more uncertain about posting excerpts here since i heard that people might have been stealing my new labour edits. not that i think they’d do the same to my dissertation— after all, it’s on shakespeare and marlowe, not blair and brown— but it has made me realise more clearly how protective i am of it. it’s so much more valuable than any tumblr webweave, of course, not only because it’s a piece of academic writing and a hefty one at that, but because i worked so hard on researching and writing it, and the idea of putting any of it somewhere i know a thief might operate has made me…. leery of posting it, to say the least. it’s perhaps the piece of work i’m proudest of, and it contains research that i’d like to build upon over the rest of my academic career. and needless to say the consequences of it getting stolen would be more significant, too. i’ve sent copies of it to some trusted friends who have requested to read it, and i’m always happy to discuss it, but i do want to keep the actual work safe. this might sound a tad absurd, i don’t know. but i hope you understand

The Thick of It is great because with Veep I had a pretty in depth understanding of how the US government works and could appreciate the specific satire of it. I’m an idiot about the UK’s structure so it was always just thirty minutes of blind chaos until a Scottish person stood in the middle of the room and screamed their head off which was arguably funnier. like when you watch a foreign language soap opera just for the facial expressions

here it is, gang
the edit i have spent at least the past three/four days working on, and god im so glad it's done
lots of painstaking editing, overlays, saving, deleting, swapping, adjusting - for some reason i tried to create what kind of things would be on malcolm's desk like a fucking idiot, right down to the lamp (which you can't even really see here)
also the 'pull it to the side' has the lace banner bc of 'the lacy black pair with the little bows' line, so it was a nice little nod to that
spent AGES trying to look for what kind of computers they were using on the show, taking the screen out, finding a screenshot of the EMAIL system they were using (or visual representation of it), and branded the dosac logo all over the place in a similar way of a brat logo
made a whole magazine cover to go with the page turning transitions
the black and white picture is a spin of charli and billie on the guess cover (or a little nod to that kind of vibe)
watermark at the end mainly thrown together because i didn't know how to end it
also made the 'guess' overlay because the spotify player looked ugly against the green
anyway im very very tired now and im gonna collapse and not wake up for a week. toodlepip.

dosac is kind of like a petri dish into which a contagious virus has been introduced (malcolmspeak) everybody gradually gets more and more infected. with the disease. nicola after working there a week composes metaphors like “i am standing in a factory that makes fans and a man has walked in with a giant shit spraying machine”

After reading The Missing Dosac Files, I’m 100% convinced that Jamie and Malcom used to send an ‘x’ on the end of their emails to each other, but one time Malcolm accidentally sent an email to someone else with an ‘x’ on the end because it was so instinctive, so now he has to put an ‘x’ on the end of the occasional email to various different people in order to make it seem like something he’s just picked up to be more sarcastic rather than people accusing him of being in a relationship

someone needs to put a bear trap in the dosac building. someone should make the people in dosac discuss sacrificing 10% of the world’s children and then fill the building with toxic gas. oh wait peter capaldi was in that season of torchwood already
