No Angel of Temperance

curl your hands around my heart  squeeze dig your nails into its flesh  rip it open like a pomegranate  staining your fingertips with the mess of it  fill your mouth with my arils bite into me and chew and chew my desire bursting across your tongue my suffering pooling at the corners of your smile my desperation grinding between your teeth abandon your propriety and gorge like the starving animal you are  tarnish yourself with my longing crimson from the foolish need I’ve grown overripe and fermenting on the bough devour it  devour me until you, too, are slavering glutted and intoxicated by my moldering spirit

I pulled my latest bind out of the book press today! This is Slow Show by @mia-ugly. It’s my absolute favorite Good Omens fic I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed the process of typesetting it and designing the cover. I included the original bookcover created by @dorywhynot inside as homage to the Ineffable Editions version.

Technical details follow:

The cover design repeatedly beat my ass, but I think it turned out okay in the end! I drew Az’s hand in Procreate and imported it into Canva. I’ve a mind to cut out the coin shape in gold vinyl and add it in later.

This was my first time trying to hand-trim a text block, and it was… bad. I had to sand for a long time and gave up doing the tops and bottoms of the pages. So the text block is technically only a third finished 😅 Next time I hand trim I’ll have to use a thicker, sharper blade for sure.

I’m so pleased with the endpaper from Hollander’s. The colors are really vivid and it’s got a lovely matte feel.

Overall I’m really proud of this bind. The dark green bookcloth really came together with the blue and black and cream. 🤩

I’m not sure anyone but @dorywhynot truly understands the pure joy these photos bring me

Team work makes the dream work!

A shout out to all the players on team-merman for @ourflagonmax @rafaelvalladao 3D sculpted our scales in brazil. @metmobile printed the scales here in our studio and @an.introduction.to our master mould maker made fibreglass moulds into which we began casting casting and more casting…. 3000 individual scales in multiple colours with an array of glitters from @mysticartglitters … so so so much GLITTER! How cute does my man @metmobile look, delicately dusting glitter into scale moulds 😍

Then our lovely @homemade_byaline would come to the studio every evening and patiently trim excess silicone off scales with teeny tiny nail scissors late into the night. While this was all going on @thecreativetradecollective babes lent a hand with meticulously painting silicone scales onto our lycra tail skins (sewn and airbrushed by yours truely of course)

The idea was to have a combo of hand painted silicone scales and fully cast silicone scales. The end result was SEAMLESS!!! And again…. more glitter.

And I basically had my fingers in all these pies, sculpting, painting, sewing, liaising with our talented designer @gypsytaylor , casting, mixing, sparkling, sourcing, delegating, sleeping (no… no not sleeping!!!) Ironically myself and @an.introduction.to probably did the most hours, but we didn't get any fun posey photos with our work!!!

Always the way!!!!

And last but not least, we had a freediver Jose come and test run our fishy wares in my swimming pool (my neighbours must think I'm so weird!)… more photos to come of our resident merman.

Working primarily in watercolor and ink, she focuses her portraits and figurative-centric work with themes of nature, romance, and the macabre, contextualized in the blurred threshold between physical and surreal states of being. Black Prince, my latest collab with @dorywhynot! So named for the velvety black coleus plants. If anyone wants to write some fic about how Crowley ended up in these thorns/how he gets out, please please do, we would LOVE to read it!
