003 Coop-a-Boop

How I feel about this character: Him stupid. Like, really stupid. Kind, but god is he sad and you really wanna punch him in the face during rewatches, because hindsight is 20/20. I love how many different “versions” we see of him and how complicated he can be. He’s not just a polite detective, he can be insensitive, rude, shallow, depressed, misguided, etc. 

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Nobody anymore, because it hurts too much and I just can’t think of Coop in a romantic relationship without it turning horrible. I do think there are romantic feelings between him, Harry, and Albert, but that’s likely the extent of it.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Laura. And Audrey. And the little bits we saw of him, James, and Bobby. Just. Coop with the kids.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I guess not shipping him with anyone would count. And I think Coop can be more malicious than he lets on. Certainly not villainous, but there is a mean bone in his body (threatening Albert, talking down to Audrey when she - admittedly, tactlessly - asked about Caroline, the existence of Dopplecoop, a lack of sympathy for Josie, how he spoke to Sam in FWWM, how he treated Diane in part 18). I think he can also be pretty condescending, at least that’s how I sometimes read his interactions with Harry, like after Josie’s death and Harry’s freaking out about it. Or with Annie. Maybe I’m looking at something that’s not there, but when I watch their scenes and he’s constantly making note about how childish she is, I remember Jacoby asking Bobby if he cried during sex with Laura and if she laughed at him.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Obligatory “learn his damn lesson” comment. And then there’s everything that happened in season 2. It technically fits his character, but they could have gone about it a lot better. Of course, I wish he stood up more to Ben and Jacoby (the latter to the point that I wrote a whole fic about it). And… um… the whole Janey-e thing was addressed differently…

Favorite friendship for this character: I’m swinging more towards his friendship with Hawk and Lucy nowadays (since my recent rewatch).

My crossover ship: None. I think last time I said something about Mark McPherson, but I’ve changed my mind.

Things I’m Still Confused About After Finishing Twin Peaks The Return

Everything. 

But first of all, if JUDY is technically BOB’s superior, then why does the ring that blocks out BOB have her symbol on it? Does it make her embody the person wearing it which makes him too scared to possess them? He seems to be running away from giving her and the rest of the Black Lodge spirits their garmonbonzia, so maybe the ring forces him back into the Lodge and that’s why he’s scared? But in FWWM when he kills Laura he does go back to the Lodge on purpose to give The Arm and MIKE their garmonbonzia? Does it prevent him from harvesting the person wearing it’s garmonbonzia? So that means JUDY took the garmonbonzia? oh god i’ve said garmonbonzia so many goddamn ti-

Did BOB know that JUDY was inhabiting Sarah? If so, why did he stay in the house? And was JUDY playing the long game in letting Sarah be drugged by Leland so Laura could get more garmonbonzia? 

This next thing isn’t even a lingering question, it’s more of a theory or getting an implication down on paper. So, it seems like the reason Laura was so special is not just because The Giant and the lady from the Eraserhead Lodge birthed her in 1947 and she contains the golden orb specialness, but also because JUDY and BOB are also her parents. So she’s the pure combination of the energies of both the White Lodge and the Black Lodge. That’s what I took out of it anyway. 

Also, is Cooper forgetting or did he just realize it was a fake world? And who made the fake world? I personally think it’s Cooper even though the common consensus is that JUDY did it due to the title of the diner Laura works in. 

If it is Cooper, then did he plan it as a trap for JUDY or was it completely unintentional? It seemed somewhat like he didn’t plan it, because... well, it didn’t turn out so well in the end. 

Is The Arm a puppet, same as BOB, or is he the ringleader? I mean, of the non-JUDY spirits. JUDY seems to be the greater-scope villain of the show. And what’s his morality? MIKE claims he’s the part of him touched by the devilish one that he had to remove, so is he truly evil? If so, why does he have a Black Lodge doppleganger? Is he just an asshole in both universes? Like people who are just jerks both in the regular Star Trek universe and the Mirror universe? 

The Arm has said that Laura (or at least a tulpa of Laura) is his cousin. So either BOB or JUDY is his sibling? If JUDY is the mother and BOB is the estranged brother, then Laura is both his cousin and his sister, which... ick. 

Why would MIKE create a tulpa of Diane made to serve DoppleCooper? He seemed to be on Coop’s side? Was it just so that he could get to Twin Peaks so he could be defeated? 

Does the original timeline still exist? And is Audrey in a Lodge (if she’s in one of the Lodges I think she’s probably in the Waiting Room) or in a mental hospital? 

Here’s a silly theory. If creamed corn is pure garmonbonzia, then cherry pie is the antithesis of that. It’s pure joy. And that’s why it saves Coop’s life in the end. 

But most of all..... when will the Dougie Jones/Janey-E Jones/Sonny Jim/Mitchum Brothers spinoff we so desperately need?????

Okay, but seriously. I get this mess.

I'm not mad at the way Twin Peaks finally ended. Maybe it's just my years of watching various anime with multiple timelines that desesitized me to timeline fuckery...but to me it made sense.

Cooper, by going back in time to Fire Walk With Me, fucked up. He tried saving Laura before she went to the shack which was the catalyst that lead to her demise.

FWWM!Laura stopped existing after she found Coop and he tried saving her. That's what the sound effect was, her going into nonexistence 25 years too early.

The flashback to the opening of the pilot was the birth of the "No Laura" timeline. Pete goes fishing, everything except for the kids' subplots and Cooper going to twin peaks happens as normal. Josie lives and isn't turned into a drawer pull.

The scene with Sarah smashing Laura's picture was probably the last scene of the "original timeline". Like she either lost it finally or she knew the end of this timeline was coming and she blamed Laura for it.

Dale going back to the lodge was a reset button, but a faulty reset button because Laura doesn't exist as Laura anymore so he's sent to another universe where Laura exists as Carrie like he was Douggie.

But because this was probably a branch of the "No Laura" timeline (because she got nonexistence'd early) he ends up fucking everything up even worse to the point where it's probably not even 2014 anymore and it's probably like...1995 or something.

Diane being there is confusing. But if it's all part of a dream, then maybe she was dreaming and this was the year, in the original timeline anyway, where she had the run in with Dopplecoop. So it's possible she's not really there at all. Which would explain why she saw another version of herself, covered Cooper's face during sex probably due to being triggered, left, and the motel and car changed. Or maybe she wasn't the one dreaming, maybe Cooper was just having a sex dream and working through some things and that's why they seemed stilted. Maybe they were both dreaming at the same time. Who knows. But it's possible that between the black lodge and Odessa, nothing was real and Coop just dreamed the note into existence just to get Richard and Linda out of the way.

By the end, the timelines are fucked up more than they were before. Laura snaps out of her Carrie Page amnesia and then she somehow does a true reset of the "No Laura" timeline.

As for Audrey, she's probably out of the Matrix so to speak. She exists but is also non-existent. She exists outside of the various timelines in some kind of purgatory. She just accidentally found a way to be forced out of bounds.
