Hey, so for anyone who grew up with or just watched the 4kids Yugioh dub, do you remember that time in Duelist Kingdom when Yugi dueled the supposed ghost of the supposedly dead Kaiba? You know, that episode with all the talk of the practically phantasmal probability of Yugi’s victory?

And then when ‘Kaiba’ unmasked himself as this creepy clown looking guy, you know he revealed that he was essentially the personification/manifestation of the darkness of Kaiba’s soul that Yugi banished to the Shadow Realm with a mind crush at the end of their duel in the first episode. Only to have been freed from the Shadow Realm by Pegasus and sent to defeat Yugi?

Thus actually making this guy a genuine shadow/evil-counterpart to Kaiba that Yugi has to defeat in a twisted repeat of their first duel, and Yugi effectively cleaning up unfinished business when he defeats this shadow doppelganger of Kaiba and banishes him permanently this time.

As well as presenting a pretty good example and exploration of the strange, occult mysticism at work in this setting and the kind of power that both Pegasus and Yugi possess through their Millennium Items. It turns out that Yugi really did banish this dark piece of Kaiba’s very soul to this mysterious ‘Shadow Realm’, and that Pegasus was able to actually retrieve this piece of Kaiba’s soul, give it a body and make it his minion. And that Yugi is powerful enough to then PERMANANTLY banish this specter back to the shadows, never to be free again. Or, depending on your interpretation of the wording, Yugi’s mind crush may have just outright DESTROYED this piece of Kaiba’s soul for good.

An act which is certainly reinforced by the following ultimatum Yugi delivers to Pegasus, a statement delivered magically/telepathically over the video-screen that Pegasus is watching, something that even echoes what PEGASUS did to Yugi in their first duel, with Yugi wreathed in an aura of mystical power that ends with Yugi shattering the glass in Pegasus’s hand.

So that’s the dub version…

…And then you find out that in the original Japanese dub, the Kaiba doppelganger was… just a random evil, creepy clown working for Pegasus who was really good at disguising and impersonating people and decided to pretend to be a dead Kaiba to mess with Yugi.

For some reason.

As sacrilegious as it may sound, I feel pretty comfortable in saying that the English dub did actually make a few GOOD changes.

And yes, I know that in the manga, it was a ventriloquist with a Kaiba dummy who claimed that Kaiba's soul was in the dummy but was really just bullshitting. Which frankly I consider only MARGINALLY better than 'random evil clown disguised as Kaiba', simply because we get to see Yami go all Season-Zero on him with a sick penalty game.

How would a duel go between Other Gyero (the samurai doppelganger from that one image from a while back) and Hyoro?

Since Other Gyero is more competent, I don't think Hyoro would last very long against an army of samurai clones! (Unless if Other Gyero doesn't have access to shadow clones...)

Maybe if Other Gyero's shadow clones worked differently, instead of being independent they'd just be shades that mimicked his attacks?

Hyoro would win if Other Gyero can't deal with barrages of attacks and dimensional rift hopping!

I'm stealing other people's idea of Phil becoming feral and/or monstrous while trapped in the birdhouse, and adding:

When they find Phil, he's silent. He's not moving quite right. His skin is just a little too pale. The diagnosis is quick and the solution is obvious: This is a code doppelganger, call Etoiles.

Etoiles arrives, kitted out and giddy for a fight. He has experience with blocking out the face in front of him to fight the code beneath, but even with the first exchange of blows, this time feels different. He's reminded of the fight against the fake Tallulah and Chayanne, but less of the creatures he fought, and more the person who fought by his side. And he's reminded of that friendly duel with sticks that he and Phil had inside the Order.

I'm not quite sure how the fight would go. Phil has very little gear, so a straight fight would be a breeze for Etoiles, but if he decides he can't hurt Phil, things get more complicated. Maybe Phil eventually escapes; maybe some of the players who have been experimenting with player-capture methods (BBH, Tubbo) show up and help catch him. Regardless, it would be so cool to see such an extreme contrast with Phil and Etoiles' last fight.

[Not a fandom just a story I have]

Aita for deceiving my girlfriend by not telling her that we met before?

To give context, I (33 F) and my girlfriend (33 F) have been dating for two years. Let’s call her Poppy. It’s been a lovely relationship, I love her very much, and all of her friends are supportive of me despite the fact that one of them was in love with Poppy for a long time. The only problems we have, we solve but this issue is one I don’t think we’ll be able to come out of. You see, when I was a teenager I didn’t have a good sense of myself except performing as a magician clown in a traveling circus that was going downhill. And because of that, I didn’t feel like my life was going anywhere and that there was nothing I could do about it except one stupid idea which I will never stop feeling guilty for. I impersonated Poppy who was the most popular girl in a town I went to, insisted that I was her when she confronted me, and used her friends against her. It helped that we had the same body type and that I had done a lot of preparing beforehand. So much so, that we looked completely alike. This ruse went on for a few days until her friends noticed cracks in my impersonation and apologized to Poppy. They all then confronted me and revealed me as a fake. And after they beat me in a magic duel, Poppy asked me why I hurt her. I explained my situation and she told me that I should become a professional magic user since I had given her and her friends a hard time with the illusions along with the fight. I followed her advice and became a traveling magician. And over time I became a famous magic user who looked completely different from before. And one day I met Poppy and her friends again who needed my help with illusions. (They didn’t recognize me as the doppelganger from long ago and they still haven’t.) And while I was helping them, we all got very close. So close that we now all live in the same town, and Poppy and I are in love. But I still feel guilty about being with Poppy. I love her and her friends so much that I consider them family, but I still hurt them long ago and still haven’t told them. I don’t want to lie, but I don’t want to lose them either. So tell me what you all think. I need honest feedback because I honestly don’t know what to do.

Be submitted using the google form found below! If you try to submit a character using the askbox, it will be ignored and deleted!

Only a total of 64 characters will be allowed in the bracket, and 8 slots have already been filled, so only 56 characters will be making it onto the bracket!
