Porcelain Toad - Its outer shell is formed from excess minerals being excreted out of its skin. The added weight makes hunting impossible, so it has evolved a symbiotic relationship with the plant on its back. In exchange for a share of the plant's sugars as well as its antibacterial compounds, the toad provides ions, water, and a vehicle for the plant's spores. Excess water leaves the toad through the holes on its face, leading locals to believe that the toads "weep" for their lost family after floods or heavy rain.
Devil Crab - The spikes and massive eye spots of the shell deter aquatic and terrestrial creatures alike, ensuring its safety in both high and low tide. The "horns" near the crab's face are the remnants of its pincers, rendered virtually obsolete by its mimicry. In high water levels, the crabs root themselves in the sand and consume plankton by way of suspension feeding, much like barnacles. Some fishermen consider this crab to be a bad omen, and claim that finding its shell will spoil your catches for months. While this is largely superstition, the crab's flesh decays incredibly quickly and produces a noxious aroma that can cling to most surfaces.
Breeze Beetle - Its special exoskeleton allows it to harness the wind for its mating calls. The females' heads are covered in minute hairs that allow them to detect the direction of the wind and orient themselves accordingly. They can adjust the sound they make by sliding a membrane over specific holes in their shell, which they use to signal if they are looking for a mate. Males typically perish immediately after mating, and their corpses are then consumed by their partner. The female's eggs are stored in a compartment beneath this cavity, which they will fill once they have been fertilized. Eventually, the larvae rupture out of their mother's body and are carried elsewhere by the wind.
Tidal Crown - While it's known for its extravagant shell, this stage composes a small fraction of its life cycle. Beginning as free-floating larvae, the Tidal Crown drifts into the open ocean and develops into its sea-cucumber-like form at the sea floor. If the environment is rich in food and low in predators, the creature will grow sessile and harden, periodically producing larvae as it lives out its peaceful life. In more stressful circumstances, however, the sea cucumber will rapidly bloat until it explodes, killing it but releasing massive amounts of larvae in the process. Therefore, finding a Tidal Crown is a sign of good fortune, and its shell fetches for a rather high price in most fishing villages.

Sunnivore: Alien Creature
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Body: The sunnivores body is covered in thick leather skin tough enough to resist a knife/blade as it is tough to penetrate, with very short fur coat that sheds in autumn-summer before growing back in the spring through winter, it is well built to live in a more warmer/humid climate so fur is not needed but sometimes it can get very cold in the winter.
Fur- The sunnivores body is covered in a very short coat of fur usually only through spring to winter, some being born with nun and some having fur all year round, it is common for the fur to fall of as the sunnivore grows up and turn to elders, with the younglings of sunnivores being the ones to be fully covered in fur as it is harder for the younger sunnivores to soak up heat.
Skin- Thick leather like skin, hard enough to resist most injuries, such as falling, blades and more, highly resilient and fast healers.
Spikes- The spikes are tipped with a paralyzing venom that soaks in through the skin and secretes through the tips, used to defend themselves against danger/predators or sometimes when they do decide to hunt.
Nose- Their sense of smell is excellent, as they have four tendril like appendages similar to that of a trunk almost that they use to smell with. they are able to smell for miles and can pinpoint an object and how much of an object is in that certain area.
Glow- They tend to glow in many colors, from blue, green, yellow, and more, They glow due to the types of foods they feed on, ranging from highly toxic plants, bugs and some poisonous prey they hunt turning that poison into their own venom with a special organ in their body.

Sunnivore: Teeth/mouth
inspo: From pandora creatures, irl animals(Horses, pigs, ect) and dinosaur teeth
Teeth: Curved, hooked like a beak, sharp tip and thick base, used to crush and break bone rather than cut and tear, with thick necks and jaw muscles it allows them to add more force into each bite it gives.
Mouth: Lacking a tongue, it produces more saliva to make what it eats easier to swallow and slide down the throat to their stomach making it easier to eat, and digest. the top lip is very flexible and able to flip up like a baboons or a horse to reveal the gums and teeth.
Actions: Sunnivore(s) meaning of mouth movements.
Raveling front teeth: A greeting, or a wary gesture when they come in contact with something they have not met or have not seen before. this action is often quiet and seen as a curious take.
Raveling all teeth: Seen as a sign of aggression or anger, the action will often be followed by grunts and loud growls. this can be caused for a plethora of reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Front paws: Five fingers, dull claws, healthy paws are usually quite thick and wide with thicker paw pads. not the sharpest of claws. thinner paws while unnatural and often seen in unkept or younger sunnivores is not always uncommon. Sunnivores don't rely on their paws as much as they do their mouths.
Back paws: The back paws
How to care for paws:
Wash- Wash paw pads regularly with clean water, soap optional. (Avoid doing it daily, every three days is okay.
Claws- Clip nails every few weeks as if un-kept could grow to long and harm the paw/paw pads.
Dry- After wash dry the paws and keep sunnivore inside till the next day to avoid scratching.
(take care of ur sunnivores paws :3)

Got an exciting commission by an anonymous client to design a dragon based on varanids (the group including komodo dragons and monitor lizards.)
These are some concept sketches to explore the design.
The first one is based more on the arboreal species, the blue, black and emerald tree monitors. I'd imagine it gliding through thick forests looking for insects and perhaps small mammals. It has those little parietal eyes to sense sudden changes in light to give it an early warning of a bigger predator above it. With long claws to clamber up trees and I just had to include that long spiraling tail the tree monitors have!
The second is based on water monitors, with more aquatic adaptations. This one doesn't really have wings, it's based on those kind of wing/fin like structures on medieval dragon art combined with exaggerated skin folds. It also has webbed toes and more webbing on its tail.
The third is a big apex predator, largely based on komodo dragons but with a spiny tail inspired by ackie monitors, and some spines on his neck to complete the look. It has the typical dragon body plan with four legs and a pair of wings, though depending on how fantastical this project is I don't think it would be able to fly. Instead it might use them to aid in sunning and intimidating rivals.

Another sophont I've been working on. I've been trying to design these guys for a while. They've had a lot of iterations figured it was time to post them here.
Anyway, here are the Ah'Chikiri, reptile like aliens from a dying world.
The Ah'Chikiri home-world is a little bit like mars, it orbits a red giant and the majority of their worlds oceans evaporated a long time ago. Water still exists on the surface, but its isolated to lakes and aquifers. Rain is rare and generally unpredictable.
Their civilization is actually quite old, and predates the Imsee, by thousands of years. They used to be an FLT-capable civilization as well but at some point in their history their interstellar civilization collapsed and only the populations isolated on their home-world survived. Most of what remains of their civilization prior to contact with aliens in the modern era are a bunch of city states warring over the remains of their ancient technology, what they call "Earth-Eaters", Many millennia old autonomous machines created to terraform their dying world.
The Ah'chikri reproduction system is somewhat unique in that they have androdioecy, so their two most commonly occurring sexes are males and hermaphrodites. The hermaphrodite sex is generally larger than their counterparts.
Ah'Chikiri eggs are hatched in water and can under go two forms of metamorphosis either into a nymph and develop into a type of tadpole where they later grow into juvenile Ah'Chikiri or into a barnacle form and become filter feeders, during this state they can produce more Ah'Chikiri larva through budding. So a single egg can reproduce a ton of Ah'Chikiri.
Young Ah'Chikiri don't really need their parents to survive, and will generally form small nomadic troops among themselves. I'm still working on their social structures as it varies a lot more by culture than it does with other sophonts.
