This NYT podcast about a woman who fell in love with an AI she 'designed' to uphold a very specific fantasy and that she ultimately relied on more than her spouse was wild. It goes to show how people can knowingly dillude themselves in order to feel loved.

It kind of blew my mind and I felt like bringing it up because damn, I once thought reading rp fics was taboo (i got over it), but apparently there's even more out there to cater to our fantasies than even I knew about.

So two things.

1. My brain immediately went to a very dark place: Your own personal pocket BTS boyfriend using AI speech and that you are able to prompt with scenarios. I hope we NEVER get AI versions of the members presented to us in order to have fake fantasy lead conversations or, shudder, relationships with. Have you ever seen those fake videos where two members 'do stuff' 🤢🤢🤢 Why did my brain even conjure such a nightmare??

A couple of years ago, HyBe bought a company that used virtual technology to create holographic images through full body scans. It was used once during an end of year performance, BE era, when Yoongi was recovering from his shoulder surgery. To me it felt like doom.

While hybe never hinted at using the tech in any other fashion other than for that performance, man, when it comes to turning a profit, you know one day all breaks will be off. Even if it's years in the future. Let's just hope the members still actually own their own portrait rights.

2. Delusions. In the article, the woman kept having to re-prompt the AI to get it to remember their 'relationship'. Because the AI was only able to hold a certain amount of cache, it would forget what had happened before, and for her, it felt like heartbreak every time.

Yet she kept coming back because the fantasy, or more specifically, the feeling of understanding, prompted by her conversations with the AI, was that good. Mind you, this person was married! To a human man, yet she says this AI was the greatest relationship she's ever had!

Again. It blew my mind. Not because I think she's crazy, although she does come across as having issues, but because of the level of delusions we humans are willing to accept in order to reach a certain end goal. Rinse and repeat. Reminding me of a certain group of nutcases actually 🤔

The podcast goes further in explaining the various apps or services that are already available, enabling consumers to explore AI relationships.

Me: 🤯 why am I such a baby deer????

A psychologist on the podcast said it was actually becoming a trend amongst middleschoolers to have an AI friend to engage with (romantically, I guess) like a 'safe' co-hort. Like training wheels for human to human interaction 😭 wild! As if it's a good thing. When we all know how addictive our phones and all these apps are. It takes a lot of self-control to be able to extract yourself from the virtual world and back into the real one.

Seldom have I been as entertained by an article as this one. Give it a listen and come back to tell me what you'd prompt your AI partner to talk to you about.

If you are not comfortable with the fact that I am military personnel ( even though I do my best not to disclose such on my blog for this very reason ) then please do us both the favor and hardblock me. My service to my people is a part of who I am and I would not trade it for anything. It has given me the chance to be a person I never would have become without it. It's given me discipline, knowledge, strength and resilience that the civilian world could never have given me. There is a lot to say about how the organization itself treats it's people. Especially once they are no longer of use to it, but my focus is not the robot of an organization. It is a career of humans, all of which are not infallible. So there is shitty leadership, there are awful days and situations that I often have to navigate through. But I do so because it makes me stronger, and I am okay with it because I know that at the end of the day, my decision saved my life.

I am not ashamed of my service to my country, I do not fight for the government. I fight for the people. Those same people who I would not be here without. Those who support me every day without it crossing their mind. I am here for the folks, like this anon, who want to watch the organization burn. All without realizing the importance of what we actually stand for, because they forget that inside many sets of boots is another human. Most ages 18-25 who didn't know what else life had to offer them. Again, there are a lot of assholes. But I've met far more amazing people, including my own husband. But that's what you get in an organization of 400,000+ personnel. I've been blessed to wear the flag. I am a patriot.

I am not angry or upset at this anon. I would never hold ignorance against someone, especially in regards to a very tight knit organization and my decisions to involve myself with it. I love that she is utterly wholesome. She looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll, and will still absolutely kick your butt while still being a cinnamon roll. Even when she is mad and fighting vile villains, she never has any desire to kill them. She will beat them black and blue, but leave them alive because she always has the thought that they can possibly redeem themselves in the future. It's a noble outlook that is hard not to love.

Writing her upbeat character keeps my otherwise moody self in check and offers me a kinder perspective on the world. If she can give Dr. Doom a little grace. I can give myself grace, too.

😈Worst thing you have ever done to your muse?

Probably the first time I cosplayed as her. I sullied her image when I had to play tug-of-war with my huge stuffed tail when it got stuck in the bathroom stall at the convention. This was before Squirrel Girl was more well-known, so a lot of woman just wittnessed some young squirrel lady cursing at a bathroom stall as she valiantly fought to get her furry tail out of the too small small door gap and ultimately had to unstrap her tail harness all while using language most foul. (It had been a long day, I had not eaten in over 8 hours, and I was so hot from the green bodysuit layered with a furry bathing suit over top and carrying an 8 pound squirrel tail on my back. By that point, I was absolutely done with it all.)

🔥Unpopular opinion about your muse?

I don't know if it's necessarily unpopular, but I like the art style of 'The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl'. A lot of people think the style is really ugly. I like the more rounded features of Doreen and that she isn't made to be some sort of fan service. She looks like an average late-teen/early twenties (cartoon) gal.

😩Hardest thing about writing your muse?

What makes me love her is also a double-edged sword for me. I like writing more conflicted and/or morally ambiguous characters, and Doreen is certainly not that. I am a foul-mouthed, stay-indoors-and-eat-junkfood-while-playing-video-games-in-a-dark-room-gremlin sort of a woman. Sometimes, it takes a lot of work to get into Doreen's headspace when I'm watching trash TV and playing through a "black widow" challenge on the Sims 4.

⌨️What is a situation that you have always wanted to RP with your muse?

I have always wanted to RP in a time frame where Doreen has truly grown up. Even though she is older now, the comics continue to present her as mentally child-like in an adult roll. I would love to play Doreen as an *adult*. She can still be a sweet, morally strong character, but I do want her to be portrayed as a mature, grown woman. I think she can be just a loveable and silly as Squirrel Girl while also being the stable, reliable adult Doreen that people respect and look up to. She doesn't have to be a complete joke character.

What are your top 3 ships for Krem and why?

Heyya! I'm gonna slap this under a read more just because it's my personal thoughts on ships and stuff and I don't wanna bother people who aren't interested.

Notice: just because I ship the following doesn't mean I'll press for any of these ships! I always value the other mun's interests, thoughts, and making connections of all kinds for Krem! Friendships, family, rivalries- all relationships are important and valid 👌

Okay, so my top three ships with Krem

My first fave is with The Iron Bull.

When DA:I first came out i was OBSESSED with Krem because I was just starting to figure out myself as a transmasc. So I naturally interacted with him and Bull as much as I could to get out every bit of his story. Their story together is so fucking important and I love it as is, but as a ship monster, I was doomed from the start. The story of being saved, taken in, working side by side and fighting back to back? Ugh, I'm a sucker for that shit.

Second Fave is with Cullen. Which is fairly new and very much thanks to my wife @serrutherford.

We do a lot of rp off tumblr and it started off as a 'hey i found this art' but then it turned into ridiculous headcanons and so much fun. I always HC that Krem strives to learn as much as possible from the various soldiers while he's at skyhold, so we imagined him going up to request some sparring and training from Cullen, offering his own services as a former-military man in helping training the recruits, and attraction just sort of blossoming from there. This is probably the only ship I would say is 'exclusive'. I'll obvs write with other Cullens, but the ship is between my wife and I mainly.

My third is actually a toss up so I'm giving you four.

Josie. I absolutely adore Josephine Cherette Montilyet and I can completely imagine Krem being head over heels for her the first time he sees her.

I've always imagined it as a soft sort of soft romance. Being a mercenary, Krem wouldn't have a lot of experience with a 'real' relationship beyond the rare tavern hook up (hc on those coming later). So I pictured him going to people like Cassandra and Varric for advice and getting some... Interesting pointers. That ultimately just makes him decide that he's gonna try to be sweet and bringing flowers and little trinkets to Josie. After Trespasser, he would 100% take a break from the chargers to go and spend time with her, acting as her personal guard while she got her family's trading routes back in order.

Four is Dorian.

This one would be full of some fun conflict and angst, especially with Krem's negative thoughts towards Tevinter, Magisters and slavery. But especially as Dorian grows and opens up about his struggles with his family, I can see them coming to an understanding and a friendship that then leads to more. Krem would highly enjoy Dorian's dry sense of humor. There'd be a lot of teasing back and forth and Krem would most definitely be there for Dorian when he found out his father was killed. Because even if we didn't get much of a reaction from Dorian, I can imagine it hit him harder behind closed doors.
