Ok but Dead Fast: Night of the Living (2002) has no business being considered the worst Dead Fast movie when the MCU (Murder Cinematic Universe) not only retconned his origin story to make him a virus zombie rather than a curse zombie (which throws off his entire arc about being something more than his deeds!) It's been 800 years already,  yet I still remember everything clearly like it was yesterday. His endless teasing , his contagious laugh , those amethyst eyes , those purples locks.

I remember everything so clearly,  the pain , the cries, the heartbreak,  the love.

"Slow down you dumb fish" I exclaimed, struggling to keep up with his pace while he swam effortlessly in the deep water.

"Hey it's not my fault if you're slower than a sea cucum- Ouch! What was that for" he masaged his forehead where a wave of water splashed his face.

"You know that's no way to treat your God" he shook his head before crossing his arms over his chest, amethyst eyes filled with mock offense

"I'll start treating you like a God when you start to behave like one" I retorted swimming past him to observe the ruin of the human ship he wanted to show me.

"So bossy Seaweed head" he teased earning a glare from me

"Why did you even take me here for ? Dont you have to get ready for your upcoming ceremony?" I asked with an exasperated sigh running my hand against the hard planes of the ship.

"Oh you know I like to spend time with my favorite follower" he teased, following behind me making my heart beat faster.

Rafayel had a weird fascination with everything related to the surface and those weird creatures called humans.

"And you need to stop being so interested to the surface." I retorted trying my best to sound stern to someone who's supposed to be the God I worship .

"Let's get going before Galea starts cussing out the Corails because of our late arrival" I said  before starting swimming back to the palace excepting him to follow me but he stayed there gazing up at the water with a longing look ok his face

"Rafayel ?" I called out for him making his pink-blues eyes snap back at me.

"Go ahead I'll join you later" he offered me a small smile but I knew that look, he was planning something .

Not wanting to be even more late than I was already I just shrugged and left

Rafayel could get away with being late but not me unfortunately.

"Y/n finally I've been searching for you everywhere" Gran Galea exclaimed already dragging me in the midst of preparations.

Yes this same Rafayel who annoyed the pearls out of me , this same  Rafayel I threatened to castrate multiple time , this  same Rafayel I fought countless time over the last piece of Lobster . This same Rafayel who teased me endlessly because I couldn't cry Pearls until I cried Rivers of them.

It was hard for me to wrap my head around the fact this purple haired individual was supposed to be our leader.

This same leader I literally threatened to not go to the surface alone because I knew how stubborn he could be.

All of those were distant , beautiful memories.  Because me and Rafayel never went to the surface together. The ceremony never went to term and he never became officially a SeaGod.

All because of her , This sacrifice.

Why ? I always wondered.  Why did he threw anything away for her? Why did abandoned us , me , our homeland? Leaving behind an ocean of heartache and sorrow

I was met with a deadly silence,  he was not angry or sad just resigned . As if he knew he messed up. He knew the reason of the downfall of Lemuria and I did too . Deep down I knew.

His hand came up to brush a pearl off my cheeks.

"You're still such a crybaby, seaweed head" he murmured, his voice so uncharestically soft, the sound making my heart constrict.

"Tell me" I pressed the blade harder against his skin voice bordering on desperate "why did you abandon us?"

No answer again because he knew I knew why he did this . Because I felt it too.

Love .

Such a dangerous thing for a Lemurian. Something that can make you go unimaginable length. Such as sacrificing an entire Empire and drive a civilization to his downfall.

"Love" I laughed bitterly "I trusted you and you doomed us all, just for her, just for love " my vision was now foggy ,my heart twisting in pain.

Love, such a dangerous thing , even worse when it's not reciprocated,  even worse when the person you loved was ready to sacrifice everything for another,  another that wasnt you , that will never be you because after all he's a God and you are just his follower.

the little predicaments ive ended up obtaining while making 1816 with the philosophy of 'idk just make it we'll figure it out': - having it take place in historical finland, but not explicitly calling it that, but neither calling it anything else because names are hard and deep down i dont want to make a fantasy world (worldbuilding like that just isnt very interesting to me). so its been just capital, kingdom, empire etc all these characters speak like they meant to do so in code rife with ambiguous placeholders. it makes me want to crawl out of my skin in regular intervals there just isn't a way for me to invent names that are better than mariehamn maarianhamina, sweden sverige ruotsi, venäjä ryssland russia, suomi finland OR tanska danmark DENMARK. thats a fine name right there - ok assume i start now what if i want to shuffle a historical fact around or make an adjustment in the setting because i feel like it serves the narrative. WHAT THEN. ive already done this a lot, with the plein air, finnish surnames and the gays and the transgenders. and stuff that will come up promptly when i get into the other goings on - this is written in english, but i love the language politics and communication/social nuance going at the time in this country. a lot of 'the estated people' aka gentlefolk (fin. herrasväki) and thereon characters featured in the comic are bilingual, for swedish is the language of the upper classes and offices, while finnish is that of the common people and therein majority of the population with whom they deal with. johann's family speaks finnish amongst each other (a signifier of less prosperous origins), but with hans he communicates in swedish. this is natural enough to them, as hans' finnish is broken at best and atrocious at worst (again, an illustration of exposure/necessity). but then, we do have characters either already introduced or upcoming who only speak either or. mäntynen has learned swedish fine enough, as such he converses with hans without issue, but for example his wife and children aren't half as practiced. needless to say with johann the lot of them have communicated fluently in finnish. ( there were more languages spoken here at the time, but this drama takes place in a version of the southwestern coast wherein those two and the division therein were the most prevalent. tho some of the military/officers in town definitely speak russian and are mingling with the upper society in their parties etc. )

and yeah idk i am yet to wrap my head around how i'd even begin illustrating those layers. make it italics, asterisk it, write it in english in a way that hopefully isn't offensive (my step father is a fennoswede and he has a very fascinating pronunciation/spelling at parts, the double consonants/vowels always get em. im trilingual so me and my sister slip into all three languages at once sometimes) but illustrates either entire or partial language barrier. honestly, this is probably one of those obsessions that feels big and important, but to the story doesn't make much of a difference. its just neat to me specifically.

Now, as you probably guessed im a fan of the danny gets adopted trope and dp x dc crossovers

We've seen de-aged danny adopted by various members of the batfam, super man, and even black canary

So id like to open i new possibility that could even possibly work without the crossover (though it would be a lot less exciting)

I like to propose mr lancer as a possible adopter candidate

In various stores and Headcanons with jack and Maddie salt he has been brought up as someone who would call child protective services only for nothing to happen

So with a newly de-aged and hurt danny clockwork decided to try and find a worthy candidate to take care of his favorite halfa and finds one mr lancer who is moving to a city of your choice because he was offered a job a principal

He give him a visit in him ( and his spouse if he has one) new home and explains the situation and now we have the newest adoptee (adopter?) Trying to juggle having a ghosty son and his new job

And new habits for young danny to pick up

(Now i dont know much about mr lancer outside of what I've read because its been a long while since I've watched this show but i do know he doesn't curse and i think it would be funny for danny to pick up his habit of cursing without cursing but making it space themed)

(Im talking astronauts, planets, stars and constellations)

Can you imagine a little danny stubbing his toe and going "sweet neil Armstrong that hurts" or "oh stars" or anything space related? Or if he's mad at someone and some space names just slipping out and lancer jsut being like "danny!" While the offensive party is just confused and mildly insulted

And depending if its a crossover he is also going to be trying to contact or dodge concerned superheroes

Who knows maybe mr lancer will become a misunderstood Vigilante hunting down the giw so his son would be safe and got on the justice leagues radar

Ok so you've activated my rant card (I mean this with joy, I love talking about this kind of thing and I do enjoy the show they just did like abysmally for representation)

Here is why ekko rings as an empty/token character to me:

1. We get no personal motivations for him. We had three whole episodes of character setup for our characters. By the time we get to progress day, we solidly know what every character is about, and why seven years later they would end up in the places they did. Except for ekko. Sure he lost benzo, but what does that mean? All we ever see from that is him crying with vi. Why is he running the firelights? Did he start this group? What got him passionate enough to start all this? How did he find the tree? Why is he so jaded now? How does he feel about how things went down for vi and powder? Why does he hate jinx? (For those who dont know, that last one was apparently Supposed to be answered, but was among one of the MANY ekko scenes they decided to cut for time.) Genuinely we get better character drive for Marcus. We barely get to know his thoughts on anything, let alone see his downtime. The only exception to that is when hes playing at being someone else in the au episode. Which leads me into my next point-

2. He is always only used as a plot piece for the white characters. We only see him in the au in service of having an au episode, furthering jinxs plotline, and getting his time power in time to kind of help stop victor. In the game he always had it, he would use it as a kid to make dinners with his family last longer, and worked on furthering it when he was older to save his friend, that he ended up not being able to save in the end. That's interesting! That's something for him to have on his own, that's a driving force for why hes doing things. And when this

Is genuinely the best characterization for him? Theres a problem. (He also falls into the black hair tropes of white hair and that specific short dreads with the side shave look to make him look cool, but since the white hair was a problem with the original character design in a load bearing way, and dreads do work for his character I dont necessarily consider them the worst offenses. Can we Please explore some other hair styles though I swear his look is begging for some twists, or maybe some box braids). And otherwise, his screen time is next to nothing. I want to say season one he gets less than ten minutes total. They treat him as if hes a main character to further the plot, but the moment it doesnt matter to the more important main characters hes discarded.

3. He doesnt get to be questioned. Every single character in this show is grey in some way, except for ekko. He is lorded as an absolute moral good by the show, but we dont actually get to see what that means. We barely actually get to know how he feels about shimmer divorced from silco, let alone any of his politics in regard to zauns freedom. Hes put on a pedestal of "the good guy" without actually letting that mean or accomplish anything aside from being something pretty to look at. A token. They almost do better by sevika, if they didnt fully ignore her after the parts they needed her for in the first half of season 2, not let her mourn or even find out about the people she cared about dying, didn't let her participate in the last episode, and then did her the disservice of being the only zaunite voice on the council when it runs on majority vote (I'm sorry there is No fucking way shes rolling over and taking that deal after how much shes devoted to fighting for zaun)

4. HE FUCKING WORKS WITH THE COLONIZER OF ZAUN AS A FRIEND AND MENTOR. HELLO. I have so many problems with how heimerdinger was portrayed as a constant voice of reason, but the fact that in ADDITION to that they make him buddy buddy with ekko? Makes it incredibly clear that they have no fucking idea what they're saying.

All in all, on the surface? Ekkos awesome! Ekko is really cool and fighting for an important cause! But the moment you look past that there is almost nothing to him character wise. And when hes the only black character they use culturally black ties for outside of hair, and the only main black zaunite character? It rubs me wrong.

It had been almost four months since the last time you saw him, and at this point, it was mandatory to capture his beautiful face on camera—how else could you remember his gummy smile if you didn’t? Watching him smile on TV shows wasn’t the same; those smiles weren’t for you. This one was.

"I'm eating," he mumbled with his mouth full, wiping his hands on the beach towel spread out on the sand. Yoongi wasn’t a big fan of the beach: the sun, the sand, the water that was always too cold—he really disliked all of it. But you loved it, and when he saw you watching videos of couples enjoying sunsets on random beaches, he thought, why not? After all, your anniversary was near, and nothing made him happier than seeing you happy.

"Yah! You can stop eating for one second to smile at your incredibly beautiful girlfriend," you said, lowering the camera for a moment and frowning as you heard him laugh at your comment. "Why are you laughing? Did I say something untrue? You should be thankful that I agreed to take a week off to come to Italy with you! Anyone else would’ve said no."

Well, to be honest, you were probably exaggerating. Anyone would’ve agreed to a vacation in Italy with none other than Min Yoongi, and you were your own boss, so taking time off hadn’t been as big of a deal as you made it sound. But you both knew you weren’t serious. That’s just how you and Yoongi were: you were dramatic, loud, and incredibly outgoing, while he was calm, grounded, and a deeply introverted person. You were perfect complements to each other, and that was why you had lasted almost five years together—yes, even you couldn’t believe it. Five years. It was your longest, most stable relationship to date.

"You’re right. I’m so lucky that my beautiful, super-busy girlfriend decided to come to Italy to celebrate our anniversary after months apart. "Comfy?" he murmured as you adjusted yourself on his lap, pressing his lips to the soft skin of your shoulder. He had missed feeling you this close, smelling that distinct citrusy scent of yours, seeing your eyes light up when you looked at him, and how you made him feel like the center of your world. Now that he had you in front of him, sitting on his lap in a swimsuit of a color he couldn’t imagine looking good on anyone but you, with that radiant smile of yours, your messy hair, and your arms draped over his shoulders, he couldn’t help but wonder how he had gone so long without you. He knew he had missed you, but he hadn’t realized just how much until this very moment.

"Yes! Your legs are very comfy to sit on," you giggled, leaning in close, almost brushing your lips against his. He knew you well enough to recognize that playful smile of yours—it meant nothing good.

"Yoongi… do you think anyone comes to the beach at this hour?" you whispered near his lips, your fingers threading through the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Sweetheart, this is a public place," he responded quickly, raising an eyebrow and giving you a smug smile that made you want to both kiss him and punch him at the same time. He probably already knew where you were going with this.

"Three months of abstinence, Yoongi! Have you forgotten that I’m also a person with basic biological and reproductive needs?" you whined, throwing your head back dramatically with a frustrated groan. You knew he’d say no, but asking didn’t cost anything, right?

"I’d remind you that I’ve been abstinent for those same three months," he chuckled, his laugh deep and raspy enough to make your heart race. "And it’s not like you’re helping much, sitting on my lap in that swimsuit, you know."

"You started it. How can you expect me not to sit on your lap when you’re putting your hand on my waist? It’s inevitable!" you laughed softly, resting your forehead against his as you gazed into his eyes. The two of you smiled at each other, basking in a comfortable silence you’d missed far too much to interrupt.

His hand moved up to cup your cheek, gently brushing your skin as a strand of your hair fell across your face in the late-afternoon breeze. Yoongi wished he could grab your camera and freeze this moment: the sun setting behind you, casting your silhouette in a golden glow. You looked unreal, almost angelic—though he’d never admit that out loud.

"We should find a solution to this problem, Yoonie. It’s a serious issue," you said with a laugh, brushing your nose against his. At this point, it was nearly impossible for either of you to wipe the lovestruck smiles off your faces.

"Hmm, and what would that solution be, Miss Y/N?" he murmured in a deep voice, pulling you closer until your abdomen pressed against his. Your legs were now firmly wrapped around his hips, and your lips ached to kiss him again.

"We could go back to the cabin," you suggested in a teasing tone, kissing the corner of his mouth.

"Well… the cabin is a bit far. Do you think you can handle the walk?" In reality, the cabin was right in front of you, with a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. You could easily get there in less than a minute.

"If it means I get to feel you on top of me again, I’ll manage," you said, pausing for a moment before the two of you burst into laughter.

"What was that?" he asked, laughing as he secured his grip on your legs—which were still clinging to his hips—to stand up from the sand, making sure you didn’t fall as he carried you toward the cabin.

"Sorry, it sounded much better in my head," you giggled, taking advantage of the closeness to pepper kisses across his face. "I promise I’ll practice my cheesy lines," you murmured against his lips, leaving soft kisses on them, smiling even more as he tilted his head closer to you, unwilling to let your lips stray far from his.

"I hope so," he whispered against your lips, pausing his steps to focus on kissing you, savoring the fruity taste left from the mini feast you’d shared for your little picnic. The way your lips moved softly against his, the tenderness in the kiss despite the desperation of having been apart for so long—it all still felt like the first time: awkward, a little rushed, but sweet.

Everything with you always felt like the first time, and that was what he loved most.

I'll start by saying I love JK so, so much. Adore him. Will always support him.

But for me, 3D is a misstep.

My feeling is Hybe should have reconsidered releasing it as it is.

JK's lyrics are fun and sexy. The innuendo is on point. The melody is great and the chorus has excellent sing-along value. Even though I'm not a huge pop music fan, I like the vibe.

The MV dancers are awesome, and I got a kick out of the fire hydrant metaphor.

And in that jacket with nothing under it, JK looks hot enough to melt asphalt.

However....

Including Jack Harlow's rap IMO is a mistake. It sucks, frankly. Not in a good way.

It not only misses the mark on the tone of the rest of the song but his lyrics are really just offensive. Misogynistic. And racial refrences are just... not cricket. It's 2023 not 1995, regardless of what his hairstyle tells you.

His lyrics sound like an incel bragging about their sex life when all they've ever done is watch porn. From his words, I doubt he knows how to please any person but himself.

His message is gross, but its still just... generic. Like he went to urban dictionary for spicy language and then googled how to treat women like shit. There's nothing original about what he's saying. He's not even being gross in an intersting way. It's gross AND boring.

I've been army since 2018 and this is the first BTS song I have tried to find merit in and given up.

I honestly tried to be into it and i just... can't. It doesn't sit well with me.

This is a new experience for me because even when BTS release something i don't immediately love, i still stream and watch and let it sink in, or I work on figuring out what I am missing and why it's ACTUALLY good even if i can't grasp it.

This... it's just... not good, in my opinion.

I have to clarify here...

It isn't about explicit content, i am totally down for that. If anyone read my post on Seven, they will know my response to that song. In a nutshell, I believe all adults who want to, should happily and shamelessly be doing ALL the horizontal tango. Every type, every day, in every way. With anyone and everyone they fancy as long as all parties are informed and consenting adults who are equally enjoying the experience.

Yes. I am all about getting down.

That doesn't mean treating your partners like a body count or using and abusing them with no consideration. That's not cool.

Now, back to the smut.

Some criticisms i saw of Seven were about how dirty it was. A few people were upset because JK said fuck, and because he sang about how and when he liked to fuck. But more criticism was levelled at Letto. Why?

It seemed like it was because she's a woman, singing about sex.

Letto totally owns her sexuality and she knows what she wants. I snorted with delight at how deliciously filthy her lyrics were. Some very clever wordplay made her verse so visceral, and pretty shocking to the pearl-clutchers, without her ever saying anything directly. I really enjoyed it.

She was telling us straight up how good she is in bed. Good for her. She totally rocks. And she wasn't disrespecting anyone. She didn't need to do that to make herself cool AF.

The difference between Letto's rap and jack harlow's is that jack sounds like he's just looking at the women he's singing about as a hole to stick his dick in. Women have fought for long enough for equality and respect. They don't need this bullshit. You can sing about getting down, and you can be absolutely filthy and nasty and wild, and you can do it without degrading your partners.

I did read a theory about this song being social commentary on toxic masculinity. You can find it here and you can read it below:

Its not bad as a theory. At least it wouldn't be if Namjoon or Yoongi or Hobi - or Jungkook himself - had written the song. If that were the situation we'd see some inkling of self awareness in the rap, and maybe a hint of character development. But there's none.

Sorry ARMY, this is not the class of lyricism we have come to expect.

If jack is trying to make a social statement^*, or play a character, he is not succeeding in showing any growth or humanity at all. He's really just that stereotype.

In the last few lines, after he offers to fly his victim from Korea to Kentucky, he says "and you ain’t gotta guarantee me nothing I just wanna see if I get lucky."

How considerate...

All I see is zero care factor about the actual person he's trying to get with. Which is quite different from JK's lyrics, which show awareness that he's interacting with a conscious, living human being, not a piece of furniture.

jack follows with "I just wanna meet you in the physical and see if you would touch me"

Ugh. Not with a ten foot pole, douchebag.

And how about, in his first verse "All my ABGs get cute for me"

Good god, really? Is he seriously saying this?

So its a no for me.

The ONLY saving grace is that there's an alternative version which is pretty fun. It's almost as if Hybe knew we would hate the version with jack harlow. Wow, such insight!

Now, i know that's not the only reason they made an alternative. They needed a clean version for US radio play (let's be real, what possible other purpose can this song serve? *°)

But they could have censored jack's... actually they couldn't. The rap verses can't be salvaged. They genuinely have no merit, the only hope for the song is totally removing them.

What does that tell you?

ARMY will no doubt still chart the main track but personally, I would feel morally compromised if i supported that version. So I'll stick to the alternative and hope for better things to come.

ok ok ok. a post about josh, buck, and maddie at dispatch as promised. (and because i dont feel like writing a whole separate post or repeating myself etc, if im pointing something out as evidence for my autistic josh headcanon, it'll be in parenthesis like this) also this is long because im going basically line by line in some places so just be prepared for that and such.

the first thing i wanna say before anything else is that like... as far as how this conversation fits into the larger narrative, i was fairly disappointed, due to the way that including this scene like this is kinda implying that the racism was fine because of being closeted etc. HOWEVER. luckily for my sanity it is pretty clear that from a character perspective, that's not at all what's being said by josh himself here, and we can be pretty certain that he is not aware of tommy's past behaviors. in fact he has almost no facts or context about the situation, which i'll get into later.

now that the disclaimer is out of the way, im gonna move onto character analysis and will not be touching on what i think the narrative might have meant etc. any further. like this is going to be purely talking about character dynamics and dissecting the dialogue etc.

we start out right away by skipping all the exposition right into a hard cut of maddie reacting to the news that tommy and abby were engaged. LOVE this set up we get right into the important part quickly and we as the audience only have to hear information that is new to us, not the information being repeated back to the character for whom the information is new.

and oh maddie. i love you so bad. she's like DAMN thats crazy, and then makes the obvious turning people gay joke. her energy here is sooo like it didn't make sense until looking at it in retrospect, but she's shocked and invested yet not taking it very seriously as a concern for buck, because well, she's having a baby and this is objectively not that serious comparatively <3 but i do love that she sees buck's reaction and quickly reins it in and is like woah im kidding im not actually being homophobic holy smokes. which. it kinda still is a little. but i think she's allowed <3

and then... josh enters the scene. he apparently only walked in as buck was saying "-kissed a boy" so of course he had to be like huh? gay shit? something gay? boys?? what's going on over here? and i love that for him. and i love that maddie immediately is like oh hi bestie i catch u up to speed on the tea <3 the maddiejosh bestieism is so back we never lose <3 and that fact that she's like. feeding in the facts in a way to dramatically amp up the tale i love it. she really said man the things my baby brother gets himself caught up in are wild.... anyway <3 true sibling behavior is finding the perfect balance between being supportive and being so so annoying <3

and she is supportive still. like when it becomes clear that there's something deeper going on here she does try to help him work through it. and its so interesting to me the way she is sort of seriously contemplating his words and is shocked when josh not only speaks up but is being very serious and equally focused on the problem at hand. it's like... she's trying so hard to figure out how to help her brother with something she doesn't fully understand that having someone else speak up to help them kind of shocks her and boy does that say something about their lives and the buckley sibling dynamic!

side note, the way josh is jokingly like "she didn't bring her personal life to work, unlike SOME people" and maddie's little look of mock offense?? they're so cute i cant handle it.

i also really love how the shots are framed during this conversation. at first, even when she's not talking and is just listening to josh talk, maddie is still in frame, we're still getting her reaction, she's an active participant in what's going on. and then there is the one shot where she's talking and josh is out of frame, hidden by buck, because whatever reaction he might be having isn't important, it's a buckley sibling moment. (he's not an active participant at that point; he's entirely observing and reacting and gathering information, not dictating the direction of the conversation whatsoever.)

it's only when josh gets very serious and it starts to turn into a heart to heart moment just between him and buck that maddie is allowed to leave the frame. it still goes back to her in very brief cuts when her reaction is relevant, but she steps back out of focus and let's josh handle the conversation. and i love that so much. thank GOD someone else is helping buck sort out his problems that isn't his parentified sister or just generally someone more marginalized than him. it was kind of getting irritating to watch, as much as i love buck so much. like dude... the emotional labor. watch it.

and man. this conversation guys. everything about it makes me an insane crazy person. ive already mentioned this in the tags of some other posts but like... its so fascinating because on the surface it is such a cohesive conversation, but when you really break it down and analyze both of their expressions and body language alongside what they're saying, you can start to see the cracks in it. what one of them is saying is not what the other one is hearing, in both directions. they are having two different conversations and i think it's critical to analyze both of those conversations and how they are interacting with each other. what josh says, what josh hears, what buck says, and what buck hears are four entirely separate things happening alongside each other.

the first part is josh trying to get a sense for how serious this relationship is to buck. when buck falters at the question of "do you love him?", he elaborates with follow-up questions that, to josh, define "love" or close enough to it. answering "yes" to those questions is close enough to a "yes" to the question of "do you love him?".

(which. ok. the particular choice of questions makes me insane because they do essentially boil down to "do you prefer this person to solitude and grant them an equal or greater importance to yourself?" which is sooo... it's said from the point of view of someone who greatly values their solitude and would not easily grant someone that level of importance.)

unfortunately, well, buck is NOT someone who greatly values his solitude, and puts other people before himself quite easily. buck would answer "yes" to those questions for basically anyone. josh does not know or understand this about buck and takes buck's answers at face value, while buck is taking this as sort of... it's hard to explain, and i think others have done a better job of capturing buck's perspective already tbh. he's convincing himself that he loves tommy here because josh is unknowingly handing him that information and expectation, and buck loves to mold himself to fit an expectation etc.

and then comes the second part, which... i think this is where it is most critical to realize that josh has none of the context about tommy, abby, and buck and those respective relationships. by his own admission, he didn't really know much about abby or about her breakup with tommy beyond the fact that it was upsetting. he didn't hear the way tommy talked about abby to buck at dinner, and he definitely didn't get to see any of the real fallout and damage to her psyche that tommy leaving her caused.

but buck did! im not inclined to rewatch s1 to get any exact quotes or anything but from what i remember, she either outright said or implied that she was so heartbroken because tommy left her because of her mother's illness. buck is understandably very upset because he understands exactly what she went through and how, unless abby was lying to not out him, he didn't exactly come clean with the breakup, and left her feeling like it was her fault, like there was something wrong with her or she was being weighed down by caring for her mother. he calls tommy's behavior exactly what it is: dishonest and cruel.

but josh doesn't know this. all he is hearing is a young, freshly out bisexual calling a gay man "dishonest and cruel" for having been engaged to a woman for his own protection. and he responds exactly how you'd expect! he reminds him of queer history and the fact that he doesn't really have a right to judge the people who grew up and had to survive in a world that was much less safe to come out in.

(and i said in my other post that's still doing numbers that "pre-Glee/post-Glee" is an actual queer discourse talking point and makes sense that it'd be used here, as awkward and cheesy as it seems, but it's also a win for my television/film/popular media/hollywood culture/etc. as a special interest headcanon. <3 we love to see it)

and it kills me because of course buck is just going to take this at face value and decide he needs to stop feeling the discomfort he's feeling, leading to the subsequent doubling down and over committing that is typical of his unhealthy relationship patterns.

(and then at the end of the speech josh has to literally announce that he's leaving DSJFHJKDSKJ. because walking away/ending conversations is so awkward and difficult and the easiest way to mitigate that is to lean into the Dramatic Homosexual Stereotype mask or whatever <3 i've long been of the opinion that josh is someone who uses the behaviors associated with queer men and queer masculinity as the blueprint for his neurotypical mask, which is why he often comes across as being just a little bit off from the Funny and Bitchy Gay vibes that it seems like he's going for. and boy did his exit from this scene just reinforce that headcanon so hard!)

they wrap the scene with a little bit more levity too which is kind of nice to like. move on from that. because it got kind of heavy there for a second.

overall i do like what this scene accomplished, but like i said at the start, i think it has some really unfortunate implications that weigh it down for me. still, always nice to get more josh content, especially when it's pretty consistent with his character as established AND not at all related to doing his job. we got to see him and maddie being goofy and maddie being allowed to let someone else deal with buck's problems for a second. and the whole thing was very well shot! excellent camera work going on throughout.

• Im sorry but liu kang x kitana can not realistically happen. At least for long term. They both have too much going on. Kitana has a whole realm let alone her own goals too separate from liu. And no offense guys but liu kang said he wants out in several stories endings. So a peaceful,quiet,normal lady and/or spouce is what he needs. Away from kombat,away from mortal kombat especially. So yeah....sorry guys. But your little fantasy of liu kang being with some badass warrior chick is just that. A fantasy and a boring one at that. Liu kang just needs a simple honey by his side. (This goes for liu kang being paired up with any of the known established lady characters)

• Speaking of which,liu kang should've retired. Not become a god. What was nrs thinking?!

It involves randomized Endbringer attacks. By default they’re fairly more common than they are in real life, happening maybe once every ten in-game years, but if you look at read_me.txt in the downloads I’ve enclosed information on how to alter the probability and how to trigger specific Endbringers as well as how to make them easier or harder to defeat. Besides that I also included CC and a few Easter eggs that won't affect your gameplay.

Types

Innate

The most common type of mage

Almost all mages start out as innate mages

Stats

Versatility medium

Are more capable of learning other types of magic even if they are more inclined to oen type

Control high

Natural magic level high

Definition

Magic that comes naturally to a mage, typically needs lots of practice in order to be more powerful and requires a great deal of control inorder to channel without some sort of conduit

Anything can be a conduit for innate magic, it does not have to be a magically enhanced weapon

Its actually better if its not magically enhanced already because its easier to channel ur own magic thro it if theres not already a  preexisting charm on it

Different races can have an affinity for certain types of magic, seedlings w plant magic, mermaids w water/ charm magic etc etc

Innate mages are able to learn other types of magic however most find it easier to stick to what theyre good at, sometimes picking up adjacent magic types (ex, a water wizard could hypothetically learn ice magic or even poison depending on how they choose to use it)

Examples

Elemental magic

All of the elements have a school of magic that can be learned and expanded on, v avatar and black clover mixed together

Usually wilded by non humans  bc its just easier for them

The core elements are the most common of course but there are mages who have dedicated their lives to cultivating new and interesting forms of this

Example, u can be an earth mage but if u live in a desert u are probably only using sand, then someone else would introduce heat and make it glass magic etc etc (very black clover and atla like i said lol)

Maker magic

A subcategory of elemental magic, is not typically offensive in nature and used more for practicality such as construction

Takes an extremely high level of control and connection to ones element (a la gray, ur, lyon etc)

Script magic

Anything involving the actual study and mechanics of magic

Curse magic

Black magic/ banned magic, any type of script magic that is used to permanently attack or alter a persons magical core of sorts

This is why healing magic is extremely rare, since the practice of blessing or affecting someones magic with an outside source can easily go wrong and do more harm than good (allegedly lol)

Rune magic

Much older, script magic is basically a more general form of this

It does require much more research and learning so its not as common as general script magic

Cast times are typically longer but the result is a more sturdy spell that can stay up for longer periods of time without constant supervision from the caster

Requip

Anything involving pocket dimensions + storing magical items that can be summoned

Most requip mages consider themselves more as fighters who use a pocket dimension as storage basically, the weapons dont even have to be magical its more of a class than a magic type

This is why it is considered innate and not holder, because the act of requiping is not derived from the items

Holder

Second most common type of mage

Are typically mages born with low levels of natural magic or weren't taught how to cultivate their magic, leading them to lean on enchanted objects to perform spells

Sometimes they are just innate mages who use items to supplement their fighting style

Stats

Versatility high

Since the magic is stored in the object, these mages are capable of using multiple different ones or could even just learn a different type of magic if they wanted

Control low

Like a weapon, magical items take training to use, it is not uncommon for magical weapons to overwhelm mages and backfire since they never cultivated their own magical control 

Natural magic level low

Holders TYPICALLY use items to make up for a lack of training or natural skill for magic, humans are the most common 

Examples

Seal/ Glyphs

Any piece of paper or medium with spells embedded within the paper

Fr just the glyph system in the owl house

Card magic

A very specific form of glyph magic

Decks can be comprised of something resembling a tarot or a playing deck or a combination

There must always be a set number of cards in someones deck, if the deck was made with 52 cards in mind, there must always be 52 cards in order for the magic to be most effective

Trading cards is allowed or replacing them, its more about the box they come in

The case for cards is essentially the charging port, it reactivates any card placed inside but it must ALWAYS have the total deck in order to work

Pict magic

Using a magically enhanced brush, 

Any form of magical weapon wielder tho most mages who have a magical weapon use a different type of innate magic primarily

Patron

Least common, not to say they are rare but do hold a level of status in the magic world

Celestials and takeovers are the most common of this type

Stats kinda

Versatility low

Unable to learn more types of magic without extreme levels of training

Control medium

Requires a level of control in the case of takeover or lacimas but overall usually don't overwhelm the user without their explicit consent

This varies based on the power level of the patron

Natural magic level low

Since these mages outsource their power, they typically don't possess much natural mana themselves

Definition

A magic that can hypothetically learned by anyone no matter natural level of magic, however are typically hyper specific and change the magical make up of the user, making it nearly impossible for them to learn a different type of magic once its taken hold

Must involve drawing your magic from an outside source, typically a much more powerful magical creature however mortals have started using lacimas as substitutes for the more natural blessings

Living vs object sources

Lacimas are the most common form of imitating the effects of patron magic, they typically just skip the step of having to actually make a contract or agreement with a higher being by just distilling the magic of that creature into something they can either implant in themselves or consume

Because there is no bond to a conscious being controlling the magic flow, lacimas are extremely unstable as they are just concentrated magic in its purest form, causing it to usually rapidly change the users magical make up and often manifests as some kind of physical infection or transformation to force the host body to better accommodate the magic

Acnologia is the text book example of this, except he fully gave into the magical energy and lost his humanity in the process, leaving him as a soulless being that is purely a vessel for magical output

The transformations can result in chronic pain/ disabilities for the user or even death depending on the severity which is why it is not a common practice

Examples

Takeover magic 

Any form of magic that involved having to consume a living creature in order to gain their magical abilities

Results in being able to tap into that creatures soul and transform into them (pretty much the same as canon ngl).

Consume is vague on purpose, the extent of the transformation also depends on the amount or form of consumption

Slayer magic

Slayer magic is when a magically inclined/based creature gifts magic to a mortal

This use to be called blessing magic but during the war between dragons and dragon borns the name changed to slayer

The first instance of this is mavis gifting her charm to zeref, which he ironically used to accidentally wipie out all the fairies so-

Instead of a full transformation at once, slayer magic slowly changes the user over the course of years and can even have affects on the offspring of the user

Ie the dragon slayers starting out as normal humans at first but after like 3 generations are just full on dragon borns

If they hadnt been wiped out hypothetically they would have just become full on dragons

Celestial magic

TECHNICALLY just slayer magic but due to political and social conotations there is a separation

The main difference is that while slayers store the blessing inside their bodies, celestial mages store the blessing in a keyas a symbol for the bond

Its not holder magic tho bc the key itself isnt watch magical? They are specifically tied to one person
