Lloyd having his suit altered by Zane

“Lloyd, you know that if you don’t let me hem your suit, you are going to trip before you even get into your next fight.” Zane was well aware of how desperately Lloyd didn’t want his suit altered, but hiding in a cupboard was a little dramatic.

“I’ll be fine! I’ll grow into it!” Lloyd yelled from the cupboard. “Besides, how do I know you won’t… stitch it to my skin!”

Zane couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Do you really think so poorly of my sewing skills? Besides, we’re only pinning where it needs to be sewn while it’s on you. Then you get changed and I’ll stitch it while you’re wearing something else.”

“But you could stab me!”

“I promise you I won’t, Lloyd. And if I do, I’ll buy you all the candy and comic books you want for a month.” Zane was getting desperate here. However, it got Lloyd to open the door to the cupboard.

“Promise?”

“I promise,” Zane said, crouching down to Lloyd’s level, offering him his hand to help him out of the tiny cupboard. Zane shared a gentle smile with Lloyd, who only ducked his head as he went to stand on the stool set up next to a box filled with needles and thread.

“Lloyd,” Zane said kindly, but firmly, “I promise there is nothing to be afraid of. It is to give you a better chance at developing your skills. It will replicate what it will be like when you grow into it.”

“I know, I know,” Lloyd replied, lifting his head but still not meeting Zane’s eyes.” And I do trust you - I just… really don’t like needles.”

Zane smiled gently. “Why don’t we have something to help distract you while I work?”

Lloyd looked at Zane incredulously, “Like what?”

Zane simply walked over to the TV and slide a DVD in. He turned around to see Lloyd’s smile about to break his face. Zane chuckled and returned to the sewing box as the title card came up.

Starfarer.

Zane knew how to get people to do what they need to. Otherwise, how to bribe them. Oddly enough, ever since Zane saw Jay and Lloyd geeking out over the sci-fi show together, he knew that what worked for Jay, would also work for Lloyd.

Lloyd dashed to the little stool, positioned in front of the TV. Fritz Donnagon’s space ship zoomed on screen, and his eyes were wide on awe. He had seen it before, but that didn’t change anything. It was always the best feeling, the dopamine from this incredible sequence, jumping right into the action.

Lloyd glanced down to where he last saw Zane, and quickly noticed that he had already pinned one leg…

Zane looked up and saw Lloyd’s shocked expression looking back at him.

“I work fast. I know what I’m doing,” Zane said plainly, with a small wink at the end. Lloyd let out a small giggle and turned back to the TV.

It tickled when Zane moved to the fabric around his waist, which happened to be well timed with Lloyd’s favourite joke from all of Starfarer. Zane attempted to give him a stern look, but it was undermined by his small grin of amusement.

The next 45 minutes we’re filled with Zane asking Lloyd to stay still whenever he began excitedly bouncing on his toes, Lloyd explaining whenever something excited happened on the screen (very frequently), and Zane asking how a certain adjustment felt.

“Thank you Lloyd. We are all done!”

Lloyd turned around, his mouth agape. “That’s it?”

“Yes Lloyd. As soon as you get changed, I can stitch the alterations.”

Lloyd left the room and changed into his old hoodie, and returned to hand over the green gi to Zane. He chewed his lip nervously.

“Are you okay Lloyd?”

“Yeah! Um yeah I was just wondering…” Lloyd glanced back at the TV screen, “would you maybe like to watch some more starfarer with me?”

Zane smiled genuinely. “Of course Lloyd.”

They settled on the couch, Lloyd leaning on Zane’s shoulder as he began removing pins as the thread became woven with the green layers of fabric. As time passed and the sunset became apparent through the window, Jay walked in and plonked himself next to Lloyd. Followed by Nya, slipping next to Jay. Cole and Kai came in to sit next to Zane. Eventually, Wu walked past and found them all invested in this… Space Samurai? He quietly sat in the armchair, trying to work out what in Ninjago was going on. Lloyd looked around at his family. He snuggled deeper into Zane’s arm.

6. Tall & Skinny

This FoOglie is probably the least fucked up of the bunch, but that really isn’t saying much. He’s very long and lanky like the name implies, which could definitely freak people out, but he has a sad face. These eyes have seen too much. Kinda reminds me of that one dude from Star Trek that I don’t know the name of because I don’t watch Star Trek. 6/10 Frights.

5. Too Too

Aside from Tall & Skinny, Too Too most resembles your average human. Reminds me of my grandmother, so maybe that’s why she unnerves me more than our previous entry. If this FoOglie were to attend a child’s birthday party, she would probably only scare 87% of the children. That’s still not great, but compared to her competition, that’s a solid percentage. The more I look at her, the less scary she gets, so that’s our cue to move on. 7/10 Frights.

4. Flower

Holy shit??? Holy shit. The first FoOglie on the list that invokes genuine fear. Where do we even start? The weird line across his forehead? His jowls? His antagonizing grin? There are no positive aspects about Flower. I especially hate that the top of his head isn’t symmetrical with the other “petals.” This FoOglie enrages me. 8 1/2/10 Frights.

3. Alexander Minion

Hey Spy Kids (2001)? Sweetie? What the fuck is your problem? This FoOglie is a bit of a special case. His deformation is the most grotesque, and yet...It’s much more obvious that it’s fake. I remember the first time I watched this when I was a kid, and this boy just fucked me up. I couldn’t even look at him. Having watched at least three (3) movies since then, I can now acknowledge that this is just a weird special effect. However, this ranking is based on what kids would find scary, so I think that ranking Minion number 3 is accurate. 9/10 Frights.

2.  Donnagon “Donnamight” Giggles

Well...Here he is...The FoOglie that inspired this list. Whenever someone mentions Spy Kids (2001), this is the face that I see in my mind’s eye. I don’t have much to say about Donnamight, so I hope this image speaks for itself. He is the first true instance of body horror in the film, in my humble opinion. I had to watch some clips because I could have swore they forced you to watch his transformation, but that was another dude and he didn’t show up on the Wiki, so he’s not getting included. His “smile” is haunting. It looks like it hurts for him to be alive. Also, in the clips I watched, this dude has literally the fattest ass I’ve ever seen. What was the purpose of this? Did he get to keep it when the FoOglies were transformed back to normal? These are the questions that keep me up at night. I really don’t remember this movie. 10/10 Frights.

1. Fegan Floop

Oh yeah. Bet you didn’t see this shit coming. Shyamalan has nothing on me. “Elizabeth,” you say, “that’s literally just Alan Cumming, you rude bitch.” And you’re right. Alan Cumming doesn’t deserve this ranking. Floop, however, deserves a list all to himself. This absolute demon. What kind of fucked up individual would transform his prisoners of war into FoOglies? That probably violates the Geneva Convention. I dunno. I’m not doing research for this. Like at that point, it would be more merciful just to kill them. But no. He uses them for unpaid labor for his kid’s show. What the fuck, man. This truly goes to show, the most fearsome FoOglie of all, is man... 1,000/10 Frights.

Here's something I'm sure no one has thought of in the Spy Kids fandom, not that I blame you.

What do you think of the idea of Gregorio and Ingrid once being in a polyamorous relationship with Francesca before she married Donnagon?

That would make a very interesting history between the three of them, plus it would be a neat little injoke given their actors worked with each other before in Rodriguez's projects.

With the identity of Night Rogue still being quite the mystery, we actually have a voice to pin to Blood Stark. Tetsuo Kanao. 

His most notable role is Michael Donnagon Giggles from the Japanese dub of Spy Kids 2 ACTUALLY he does a lot of anime voice work, and a lot of voice work in general. Doesn’t appear to do on-screen stuff, which may be an indicator that this is one of those “Let’s use a voice actor until we actually reveal this character out of costume” voices. Kamen Rider Wizard, for example, did this for the white mage. 

I kinda like that mystery in the casting. But for those aching for actual reveals, I’m sure that they plan on revealing something once the gear for these two is released.
