Remember how I said that I wrote a poem about how if you want to fight off the existential dread of capitalism you should donate to your food bank cuz they can buy crates of food for $1 and that means even if you can only spare $5 you just fed over a dozen people and that's a real, tangible difference you can make? Well here it is! It's not perfect cuz I wrote it at 15% brain capacity during one of the worst migraines I've had in months but writing bad poetry is a thing I do. SO! Here it is!

If I had music skill I would've written it as a song and made it a total earworm that gets stuck in your head until you donate $5 to your food bank but alas I do not have that skill. If anyone else wants to try tho, feel free.

no, but really, we need to talk about the casual objectification that has become the fallback discourse of the internet: if you're pretty and dressed nicely, you're a slut. and if you're even vaguely outside of their body standard, you're fucking disgusting.

too-frequently, people position sex workers as being "the problem". they sneer you're addicted to pornography, you don't know what a real woman looks like. but real women are in pornography. the real bodies on display are not the issue here: the issue is that other people feel extremely confident when commenting on someone's physique.

2000's super-thin is slowly worming its way back into the public ideal. recently i saw someone get told to "go for a run", despite the fact she was on the thinner side of average. not that it would ever be appropriate to say that: but it's kind of like sticker shock when you see it. people think that is fat? holy shit. do they just have no idea about things?

but what are you going to do about it? that's the problem, right. because chances are - you're a normal person. we can say normalize carrying fat on your body, but we are not the billion-dollar diet industry. we are not the billion-dollar fashion industry. we are just, like. people. who are trying to make content on the internet, without being treated shittily.

as someone who has been on both sides of things: you are treated better when you are thin and pretty. this is statistically correct. i am not saying that you cannot be bullied for being thin; i'm saying there are objective institutional biases against certain bodytypes. there are videos of men and women who lost weight all saying: i now know for a fact exactly how much worse you're treated. in the comments, some asshole inevitably says something akin to you deserved to be dehumanized when you were fat.

which means that ... the easiest thing to do is be pretty and thin. it is the path of least resistance, because of course it is, because any time you post a picture of yourself without a thigh gap, someone immediately comments something like you need to try a diet.

the other half is also dehumanizing though, huh, just in a different way. when i put on makeup and nice clothes, i am told i slept my way to the top as a professional. do you know how many women in STEM have told me they purposefully dress to "unimpress" because they already struggle to be taken seriously and if they're ever considered pretty - it for some reason takes away from their authority.

so they make it seem like it's your fault. you, existing in a body - it's your fault! if you didn't want shitty comments, don't have a body. they position us against each other like chess pieces; vying for male attention we don't even need.

and i can be an authority on this unless you think i'm fat and unattractive. when i am pretty and thin, i'm an activist. when i am just a normal person who makes a good point: i am immediately dismissed. nobody fucking believes you if you're not seen as attractive. you literally lose value. you cease to exist.

but the whole time, it feels like - is anyone actually grounded the fuck in reality? the line of "pretty and thin" keeps shifting. nobody seems to understand what "a normal weight" even looks like, because it's not something that exists - you cannot tell a person's health by looking at their body. even if you think you could tell that, even if you're sure a person is dangerously overweight - people are not your dolls. they do not need to be dressed up or displayed properly to soothe your aesthetics. you aren't concerned for them, you're stealing their agency. you don't get to say if they're "allowed" to take pictures and post them on the internet - you don't get to tell them how to exist.

people hide behind "the obesity epidemic" without any actual qualifications. they crow things about "normalizing unhealthiness".

but it's bullshit. i have visible abs. there is a pair of parallel lines on my body, even when i'm relaxed; where my obliques meet my abdominal wall. i am proud of this because it means i'm strong, because i overcame an eating disorder only to be ripped as fuck. it is genetic and physical luck that i even get any definition, i'm pleased as punch.

but it does mean that my abdominal wall sticks out a little bit. the other day i posted a video of myself dancing, and, for a moment, my shirt slipped. you could see a little bit of my stomach. i was cartwheeling to the floor. moments before this, i'd had my foot over my head.

a guy slid into my DMs. a row of vomiting emojis prefaced: you should really lose some weight before you think about dancing.

i stared at it for a long time. there was a time when i would have been triggered by this, where it would have encouraged me to starve myself. i would have ignored the fact i'm flexible, agile, good at jumping: i would have lost the weight for a stranger's passing comment. i would have found myself and my body fucking disgusting.

and for what? to please what? because why? so that he can exist in this world without an unchallenged eyeball? what would my self-hatred even accomplish? usually i write paragraphs. obviously. on this particular occasion, in this body i've been at war with for ages: i just felt exhausted.

it shouldn't be even worth saying. it shouldn't be hard to explain. all of this emotional turmoil when he cannot even comprehend the most basic truth: i am not an object on display for him.

Food Bank Fundraiser

Hi everyone!

First of all, I want to say thanks to everyone who's been leaving such nice tags/comments on stuff I've posted! It's been really encouraging (o^▽^o)

Anyway, I think we all know it's very dark days on the economic front for many of us. So as such, I'd like to help raise some funds for Food Banks Canada! In exchange for you making a donation to the food bank, I will draw a character suggestion!

I know this is not really the sort of thing I normally do or post here but... many folks are struggling to put food on the table right now, and the food bank is a source of support for many and provides an absolute necessity. I've seen many people struggling in my own city, and food security has become an even bigger issue than it already was in the last couple of years with the food bank struggling to keep up with demand. Of course, food security is an issue across the whole country that's putting a huge strain on food banks, with nearly 5% of the entire population making use of food banks monthly, and 23% of the population reporting food insecurity (CBC, 2024; Global News, 2024). Unsurprisingly, those who are already most disadvantaged suffer the effects of food scarcity even more (Statistics Canada, 2023). To make matters more desperate, Canada's food bank system is on the brink of collapse (CTV News, 2024).

I know this isn't going to something big enough to change the world or anything, but being able to make even a small impact for individual people is important too!

For those who want to contribute, I'll take a character suggestion and add it to a poll (depending on the number of contributors, it may be split up into multiple polls), and then I'll draw as many as I can from top to bottom ranking! If you contribute, please send me a DM with your donation receipt and your character idea! They won't necessarily all be drawn in the same style, and they'll be done according to how much time I've got. (I know that commissions are probably the biggest incentive, but realistically, I struggle to get them done quickly and they're probably not that affordable to everyone)

An informal ranking of grocery sellers, based on how fast the food they give the food bank goes bad after I get it home. Whole Foods: 2/10, everything from them goes directly in the freezer after being carefully checked for already molding. Safeway: 4/10, everything is a little out of date but is usually fine for a couple of days. Trader Joe's: 5/10, mostly the same as Safeway but it gets an extra point for donating a lot of convenient readymeals. Costco: 7/10, definitely not as good as from the store but it lasts long enough to not give me anxiety. Local chain grocery: 9/10, it's like I sent someone to the store but they weren't great at picking out the best stuff, so it'll last a little shorter.

Local factories: 10/10, it's like I bought it directly from a store.

Local farmers: 12/10, this is better than what I can afford at the store and it lasts longer.

Donations to Food Banks

Everyone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.

Boxed milk is a treasure, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of.

Everyone donates pasta sauce and spaghetti noodles.

They cannot eat all the awesome canned veggies and soup unless you put a can opener in too or buy pop tops.

Oil is a luxury but needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of.

Spices or salt and pepper would be a real Christmas gift.

Tea bags and coffee make them feel like you care.

Sugar and flour are treats.

They fawn over fresh produce donated by farmers and grocery stores.

Seeds are cool in Spring and Summer because growing can be easy for some.

They rarely get fresh meat.

Tuna and crackers make a good lunch.

Hamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.

They get lots of peanut butter and jelly but usually not sandwich bread.

Butter or margarine is nice too.

Eggs are a real commodity.

Cake mix and frosting makes it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.

Dishwashing detergent is very expensive and is always appreciated.

Feminine hygiene products are a luxury and women will cry over that.

Everyone loves Stove Top Stuffing.

Check with your local food bank that they accept fresh produce/meat.

In my quest to get people to donate to their food bank, and to justify spending money on a button press, I think I may make idk 10 or 20 buttons of various designs and offer them to people in exchange for cost of shipping and a $3 donation to people's local food bank. I just think that would be neat. Might offer the opportunity for a customized button in exchange for a $10 donation or something. Idk. It's just something I am considering that I think would be fun.

I think its very telling of the liberal frame of mind that now that Trump has won again, there are multiple creators on tiktok teaching people how to migrate/leave the country. As if that's an option for everyone?? Like who is that advice for. The vast majority of us cannot afford to pick up and leave, find a residency in another country and jobs that can support ourselves/families, work through the citizenship process, and then get nationalized? It's an expensive process, most countries require either a parent born on the land or that you own land and live there for 5+ years, AND again, expensive as all shit??? Like what are we to do. We literally cant all leave. Many of us know people who wouldn't even be eligible to immigrate elsewhere, since some countries have Actual Health parameters you have to meet to migrate (see Australia not allowing diagnosed autistics to immigrate). Not to mention friends and family members who are immigrants working through the process here in the US still. That's not an option for most people. It's just giving white-liberal, one intersectionality per person vibes. Its stupid, and reductive.

Another Month, Another Need

We are needing food. Last month, my EBT benefits were screwed up due to some issues with the online portal. I'm not sure why, but I never got my EBT benefits last month and haven't gotten any this month.

We've gone through everything. We even blew through the pasta which is something I try to keep on hand. I have dietary restrictions that make it difficult for me to get food I can eat. Everyone else is fine. I'm the problem. Nothin new there.
