if any of you have been following me for long enough, you might remember the time i said that i, as an ace person, think the ~ace people like cake~ thing is annoying as fuck and an anon came in to my ask box calling the "aces like cake" thing a part of our "Culture" and they compared me to a tr*nsmed / tr*scum for having that opinion. which, i don't think anyone needs to be reminded that i'm literally the target of hatred from the groups they mentioned so the comparison was very insensitive and downright bullshit in my opinion lmao.

i was kinda backed in to a corner and forced to apologize, pretty much entirely because a mutual i thought was cool at the time was like ~well i don't agree with the way they Said it but i kind of agree with them~ and i wanted to be their friend so i kinda backed out even though i thought the use of the word "culture" to describe such a trivial thing was ridiculous.

anyway what i'm saying is that i'm like one hundred percent sure that person is the one that sent the anon now (as well as other salty anons i've gotten over the past couple years) and i just wanted to share some other stuff they did after they were invited to our discord server because god it was so wild finding out they were way more t*rminally online than i originally thought.

the biggest being that they thought a two year age gap in a high school relationship was "creepy" and when i tried to explain to them that no, there is no significant maturity gap between people Two Years Apart, they just wouldn't budge. it had me wondering if this person had ever actually interacted with other kids in high school or something, bc i was friends with freshmen sophomores and juniors and there was no significant difference between us, we were all the same brand of dumb kid.

there was also stuff like trying to make us feel bad abt playing genshin despite the fact that they'd played it too for quite a while (they even had zh*ngli lmao) and even played with us like a month or two before having that change or opinion. and if you remember not too long ago i got that anon hate telling me to "get well soon" for playing it.

ANYWAY basically we in the group chat were starting to become annoyed at how weird they were being and were honestly kind of looking for an excuse to kick them out. we weren't mean to them or anything either, we just hung out as usual. then they ejected themself voluntarily for seemingly no reason, blocked all of us on our social medias, and even took themself off the group's nintendo switch family account which is genuinely funny bc they did this over the course of like a couple hours presumedly and that would not be something i would think to do at all in such a short period of time AJDJDJ

idk why i decided to share this cause i usually don't like sharing "personal drama" for lack of a better word but i just thought the whole situation was rly wild and i thought it might be entertaining to somebody LMAO

i like that there’s this huge discussion (which is valid and fruitful) going on about how the “fear capitalism” metaphor fell flat in s5 bc everyone’s read on the metaphor’s strength and presence is different while im sitting here shrugging bc my biggest gripe with the finale wasn’t even thematic or ethical it was just that jonmartin never hashed out their differences and finally betrayed each others’ trust by going behind each others’ back and everyone treated jon pretty badly including martin who just got pettier and naggier in a way that was difficult to stomach as the season progressed? and spent several eps holding the idiot ball without ever apologizing to jon properly?

the reason im not currently upset rn is bc 1) i spent about two (absolute dogshit) weeks before the finale forcing myself to come to an emotional reckoning that sometimes things don’t go the way i want and i should pull up my pants like a big boy, 2) i recognize that my particular gripes with characterization, while common, aren’t universal and definitely did not land the same for everyone else, and 3) the ending is ambiguous and open-ended enough to allow me to imagine that every conversation that i think should have occurred on-screen actually did occur in a couples therapist’s office somewhere in some other universe. canon is closed now so it’s our city and they mercifully left us a hook so we can continue doing whatever emotional work we feel like doing on the story/characters while still technically remaining within the possible realms of “canon”. i do appreciate that a lot and it was a smart move imo

like there’s a lot more things i feel bleh about including larger thematic elements etc and im famously someone who feels like the last 10 or so eps weren��t very good pacing-wise but after the finale i refuse to dwell on these any more bc a closed canon means we can sculpt it with more ease than when it was still ongoing and not continually getting my expectations down week after week when it didn’t go the precise way i wanted lmao. and im not about to give the cringe culture kiddies the satisfaction of sneering at yet another popular “”bad”” franchise when it was overall still leaps and fucking bounds better than 99% of things mainstream media has ever presented to the world, s5 and all. i also feel like i hold a relatively unique viewpoint within the fandom just by virtue of where im approaching the canon from, so i don’t expect any of my specific grievances to resonate with anyone else either. this is the last post im gonna write about this, hopefully, so i never have to think about any of this again and go back to reblogging jmart fanart and missing the fuck out of the characters i loved for 3 years
