Y/N Hughes sat in her usual filming spot, her YouTube camera perfectly positioned to capture what was about to be the most chaotic video on her channel yet. She had been teasing this for weeks—her “Who Knows Me Better?” challenge, featuring none other than her twin brother, Jack Hughes, and her boyfriend, Lando Norris.

Jack, her other half in life, had been her twin for twenty-three years. He knew everything about her—or at least he claimed he did. Lando, on the other hand, had been dating her for three years, and while he spent every free moment with her, he was about to be put to the ultimate test.

“I’m telling you right now, I’ve already won,” Jack said confidently as he leaned back in his chair.

Lando rolled his eyes, adjusting the McLaren cap on his head. “We’ll see, mate. I live with her. You just get the occasional FaceTime.”

Y/N smirked, loving the competitive energy already. “Alright, alright! Let’s get into it. I have ten questions, each worth a point. Whoever gets the most right wins. Loser…” She paused for dramatic effect, her grin widening. “Has to post on Instagram that the winner is the best at their sport.”

Lando groaned. “Oh no, I can’t be seen hyping up an ice hockey player over a Formula 1 driver.”

"Okay Ladies pipe down, Question two, what is my favorite color?" 

Jack quickly wrote his answer and smirked at Lando, who was hesitating.

"Lando got that one" she smirked "Of course it is" Jack signed knowing she would go for her boyfriend's team color

The competitive energy in the room was palpable as they got ready for the next question.

"Okay, next up! What’s my favorite type of food?" Y/N asked, a grin spreading across her face. She knew this was a tough one, and she loved watching both of them try to guess.

Jack scribbled down his answer, while Lando appeared to be deep in thought.

“Neither of you are right!” Y/N said, holding up her hands in mock disappointment. “It’s sushi! My favorite food is sushi!”

Lando groaned dramatically. "I should’ve known, I should’ve known. That’s what she always orders!"

Jack laughed, leaning back in his chair. “You know her better than I do, mate. Maybe I’m just a little too basic.”

"Alright," Y/N said, laughing. "Current score: Lando still leads, but Jack has one point to catch up!"

Lando grinned. "I'm not worried. This next one is easy."

She raised an eyebrow. "We’ll see about that. Question four: What is my biggest pet peeve?"

Both Jack and Lando hesitated, but Y/N could already see they were both thinking hard.

Jack: Slow drivers Lando: People chewing loudly

“Okay, Lando, that’s one point,” Y/N said with a smile. “I cannot stand when people chew loudly.”

Jack threw his hands up in mock surrender. “Well, that’s a disaster. I swear you complain about slow drivers every time we’re in the car together.”

Y/N chuckled. “It’s true! But at least Lando knows me better today.”

“Only because I pay attention,” Lando smirked.

"Alright, alright, question five," Y/N continued, leaning toward them. "What’s my go-to coffee order?"

Both Jack and Lando immediately wrote their answers and flipped their whiteboards.

“Jack, you got it right!” Y/N said, laughing at Lando’s disappointed face. “I love iced coffee with almond milk.”

“Finally, something I got right!” Jack grinned, feeling a little bit of redemption.

“Current score is Lando three Jack two” Y/N announced. “This is getting too close. It’s anyone’s game now."

Lando groaned, rubbing his face dramatically. "I’m not losing to a guy who barely even knows how to use a coffee machine."

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Hey, I might not know much about coffee machines, but I know her."

"Alright, next question!" Y/N said, eager to get the competition moving again. "What's my favorite movie?"

Jack quickly wrote down his answer, as did Lando.

Y/N paused, pretending to be unsure. "Well, both answers are wrong. My favorite movie is Moana"

“Wait, that’s your favorite?” Lando raised an eyebrow, surprised. “I’ve never heard you talk about that.”

“Hey, I love my classic films, alright?” Y/N defended herself, laughing.

Jack smirked. “You’ve got one right in a while, mate. You better step it up.”

The game continued on, the playful banter growing more intense as the questions got harder. By the time they reached the final question, Jack and Lando were neck-and-neck, with Y/N gleefully watching them argue about the smallest details.

“Alright,” Y/N said, giving them both a look of mock seriousness. “Final question. What’s my dream vacation destination?”

Jack and Lando both hesitated, looking at each other as if they were trying to gauge the other’s answer.

Jack: Maldives Lando: Bora Bora

Y/N’s grin widened. “Well, both of you are close, but my dream vacation is actually the Maldives! Jack, you win.”

“Finally!” Jack yelled, fist-pumping the air. “Told you, Lando!”

Lando just laughed, leaning back in his chair. “Well played, mate. You know her better than I do.”

Y/N turned the camera toward herself. “Looks like Jack wins this round! Lando, better start working on your Instagram post."

Lando groaned, but it was all in good fun. “I guess I’ll have to give you props… this time.”

I got an angry comment from a reader that as a result of my fic containing subject matter that ChatGPT's ToS doesn't want to talk about (racism, antisemitism, sexual violence, abuse, etc.) ChatGPT can't generate new chapters of the fic for them.

Two things. One, I've taken a break because my dad died, so sorry you went two whole weeks between updates but maybe learn some perspective. Two, why are you complaining to me? Complain to whoever runs ChatGPT. I don't run the thing. I have no say in its' rules or what it does or doesn't let you put in. I don't even know how it works, because since I was 5, I've been someone who comes up with my own stories, rather than having a computer tell me them, and have therefore never used the thing.

I don't even know what to say beyond, "That's awesome! Thanks for letting me know." So that's all I said, because genuinely, I like the idea of this person having to wait for the actual update instead of having the machine think up an idea for them.

It's not my best comeback but if I'm being completely honest, I don't think this person deserves my best comebacks. They get my first draft. It's all they've earned.

People freak out about check-engine lights, but they've never bothered me too much. They're just there to let you know that something mild has gone wrong, and that maybe you should pay your mechanic too much money to take a look at it in the immediate future. Me, I don't worry about what it has to say.

Most of its complaints are not critical. An engine, even equipped with modern electronics, is not capable of figuring out its internal state to this level. Let's consider a normal, everyday situation: I'm halfway down what is likely to be a 12-second quarter-mile pass, the nitrous is flowing, and I've missed my shift.

Despite the imminent danger to manifold, I will not get a check engine light for bouncing the valves off of the top of the pistons, degrading them into the modern-art form of scrap metal. At best, I'll get a little "oopsy woopsy, misfired!" warning as the block saws itself into three million razor-sharp pieces, and ejects the crankshaft into the stands. However, I will get one on the way to the racetrack, because my gas cap is loose.

With this known, the enlightened mind realizes that you can ignore whatever the check engine light has to say. If it really found out something important, then it will be obvious to you pretty soon anyway, and there's not much you can do about it until then. Better to just floor it.

Of course, there is one exception. Sometimes, the check engine light keeps you from flooring it. The car, in its boundless and triumphant wisdom, knows that you are going to hurt it if you actually try to use all the revs you paid for. In this case, the average shitbox owner will attempt to fix the check-engine light. This is the wrong impulse, and will only teach the car to be more pessimistic in the future. The correct thing to do is to grab a different car from your hoard, and ignore the first one until you have absolutely no choice but to fix it. That'll teach it to complain.

thoughts abt the recent atla comic ashes of the academy?

I'm gonna give quick thoughts based on the first impression, overall it was pretty mid for me. There was staff that I liked, but at the same time I think it's getting some valid critisizm.

On the positive side, I'm glad we got some more screen time for Mai, it's her solo comic, after all. I've seen an opinion that she was ooc for liking to be around kids and for all of the erasing of her imperialistic backstory (but that's not only Mai's problem, I'll get to that later). And while I'd agree that it's unusual to see her being warm around kids, I wouldn't say it's nessessary ooc, Mai was emotionally repressed her whole life, but when she got the chance, she showed her softer side and at the same time she has such a calm and intelligent aura to her and I liked her very much.

As for Azula, I'd completely lost my hope that they'd do anything interesting with her by the middle of the comic. I don't have a problem with her being a spoiled little brat, but I still hoped we'd get some interesting beats with kid Azula. As it is, we didn't get much interesting content on the dangerous ladies and anything particularly new about Azula, which is just boring.

I also wanted something differrent for Kiyi. She's almost pointless for the overall plot and I wanted for her to have a more meaningful role in the story. Instead, she's just kinda there and doesn't do anything important which is a shame to me.

Zuko doesn't have much screen time in this comic, but he's pretty much in character to me as well. What I thought was strange is Ursa and mainly how she wonders what went wrong with Azula instead of, you know, worrying about more important things, like Azula's current whereabouts? She's Azula's mother, why doesn't she bring up the subject of trying to find Azula?

And of course:

We shouldn't forget that Ursa had an off-screen anti-imperialist redemption to the point of her being sarcastic about the Fire Nation's traditions now.

This is a genuinely annoying problem that many other people have already pointed out. The narrative doesn't address characters who had an imperialistic past, like Ursa and Mai, for the sake of making them kinda "always good". It's pretty lame to sweep that under the rug and I see why so many fans are complaining about this. The main theme about the academy bringing out the worst in the students was also kinda perplexing. I think the comic tried to show that it enabled Azula's worst tendencies, but it really didn't show Azula's regression for the worse. It's not that Azula needed to be an angel at the beginning, no one argues that Azula wasn't prone to violence herself, but it still would've been better if Azula got from level 1 to level 2 in mischief and manipulation.

I'll have to add that Ty Lee's brief appearance was nice, she's her usual optimistic self. But I got sad when she didn't appear in the flashbacks, I hoped to see the whole trio together as kids.

I laughed at this one. Azula's reaction to the knives flying straight towards her is genuinely funny. I like how in the comics Azula is completely unfased whenever some sharp objects are coming her way. She doesn't even remotely panic and just slightly moves her head to the side. Simply badass.

Xever laughed to himself enjoying the conversing he and Raz were doing with one another. It felt like they were truly friends in this moment and not simply two people forced to work together. This was not something Xever expected to happen. But now that it had, the fish wanted this moment to continue so he intentionally made the process go longer because when they went back to work this moment would end. And Xever didn't want this to end yet.

"I suppose if I went to a school not that I did it would be the school of the streets. I suppose I never told you this but I had a brother named Rajan. He was like a me a runaway that no one wanted. We did everything together! We stole! We ate! We made obscene gestures! It was the best time of my life even if it was also the hardest."

Xever felt like it was time to tell a story he had long since put to bed. Yet, he trusted Raz by this point so Xever wanted the other to know about what Rajan did that coloured Xever's worldview so badly. Because what his so called "brother" did was that saddening to him.

"The moment that defined so much of my life was the moment I saw Rajan for what he truly was. He was a backstabber, he was someone who would do anything to save his own skin. And I learned that because I did something most would say was a stupid thing. Heck, even I know now how stupid it was. But, I was young and kids do dumb things when they are kids. They don't know any better and I was the same...its why...I tend to forgive kids more than adults."

When they don't betray him of course. Jason's actions reminded him a lot of what Rajan did which was why he had been so harsh back then. Because Rajan had given him a speech like it long ago.

"You are dead to me, is what he said. Because I stole money from a drug deal and Rajan had secretly been working for them behind my back. He ratted me out to them before I even had a chance to understand what was going on. I was running for months on end somedays I was so terrified of sleeping that I stayed up days stright. The only reason I survived is by the skin of my teeth."

That led to Xever's lone wolf mentality, it was rather funny in a way that Raz was a wolf when Xever was more used to acting alone. He hadn't trusted anyone again after that. Wasn't willing to let himself be that vulnerable because they could betray him. Anyone could betray him if he let his guard down. Yet, when he mutated he had to.

"So that's why I have to say...no beg...don't betray me like he did...I don't want that to happen to me again. Not now after all we've done."

Raz had seen Xever at his lowest and hadn't betrayed him. Some might think it was purely because of his loyalty to Shredder but since they both saved one another things weren't the same anymore.

“Hey - former comedian. Still got it.”

Bradford allows a teasing smirk as he continued to work. It was a shame indeed and partly something that was his fault. Maybe if he never pushed away right from the start, a lot of things could have been different. Maybe they could have worked it out before Shredder descended deeper into madness.

It's no use in thinking about it. He can't change the past. That doesn't mean it is easy to be indirectly responsible just how much things took a turn for the worse because of his actions - or the ones he did not took. So much that could have been handled better, so much that could have been avoided had he made a different choice.

His ears slowly perk up. Thinking less of Xever? Because no legs anymore?

“No.”

Short, but sincere. There was a time when he thought less of Xever - but that was regarding their different upbringings. Does he still think that? It’s hard to shake off old thoughts when you were raised in high society, but not as much perhaps. Bradford wasn’t sure. It feels like it just doesn't matter anymore.

“I mean, look at me. All I've got is just bones at this point."

Still, the more Xever went on, there was a twinge of understanding in his chest. It was true that there was a second time where he hunted down that retro mutagen. It worked on others, why shouldn’t it work on them? The first time he tried Stockman for help and everyone knows how that turned out.

He understands the feeling of not getting subjected to something he does not comprehend. Both times were a horrifying experience and it ruined his life.

It burned, it hurt, the confusion, yes. Nothing compared to his companion who was unable to breathe in that moment.

“It was …. terrifying the second time.”

Which was obvious by the screams of agony back then.

“This chemical … was just burning away on me. It melted everything away until nothing but bones were exposed. Sometimes I worry even if I get my hands on retro mutagen … is this something that can be fixed? Turning into a freak is one thing, becoming the definition of a rotten corpse is another.”

He grimaces as the memory of the stinging pain and everything just sharply gnawing away on him. It’s not something he wants to experience ever again. How differently would the cure be for him? Would his muscles and everything else come back? Or was this permanent damage and Chris Bradford would walk around while his bones stick out?

And yet - this form made him powerful. Faster. Stronger than ever before. All of his senses, a lot more advanced. All of this would be lost if he ever turns back to human.

And yet he can't even beat a bunch of teenagers, regardless of how powerful this form was.

Stockman was an even worse choice than the turtles, especially since he turned into a fly. He certainly leaned more into the mad scientist trope and it was unnerving. Stinkman can't be trusted.

But that was because the mutation was his fault as well. He was the one who put the mutagen collar on him. He was the one who came to mock him. With the little game the fly played when they were on their own, Bradford got the message.

There was no way he would ever ask willingly Stinkman for a substance. Who knows what that little creep comes up with!

Chasing the reptiles for retro mutagen is one thing, but if they would try to give it to him willingly, that would be a reason for the wolf to be skeptical. He won’t face another humiliating situation just because of them.

“Didn’t you want a cure once too? You told Stinkman too. I understand your concerns, but I can’t imagine living with this breathing device is comfortable.”

A smirk.

“Besides - I would test it on these turtles first if we ever get one. That way, we know it’s safe. If they turn back to regular turtles, it will be a lot easier for turtle soup.”

But there won't be a next time. Not if Master plans to finish this today. Still, the thought was amusing at least.
