if you have any old photos, that can be a way in. even a single one, "who is this, tell me about---, what was it like---, etc. you will think of more as you talk. even an old object, if there isn't a photo.

ETA, so many good ideas in the notes. i also want to emphasize transcribing if you can, since a sound recording is only as durable as the device you can play it on, and lately those are far more ephemeral than good paper and good ink.

Hello Mr. Neil! Recently I’ve been learning about how controlling my great grandfather was to my grandmother after he passed away last year and it made me realize how little I know about my family and their history. I want to ask my parents and grandparents more questions about what their lives were then and now while they’re all still here but I don’t know where to start. I’m a writer too-so I’m also hoping that I could record their stories privately for posterity.

Do you have any tips on speaking to one’s own family about their pasts? Thank you for your time.

The only tip I have is don’t put it off. When you do you realise one day that the people you needed to talk to aren’t around any longer.

Mr. Mysterio's Floating Circus - Simblreen 2024 🎪

Welcome to the Carnival!  This year for Simblreen I teamed up with my most beloved @doctorsimcraft again to put together a little set of Sims 1 Makin' Magic inspired Carnival CC. We had a ton of fun making this together and I think a lot of the pieces came out so nice.

🤡: This CC set includes lots of fun new items to get you started building your perfect carnival. Besides the buy mode items, there are also three new cloth roofs, a matching roof trim, and three new wallpapers. 🤡: We've also included our full Magic Realm Carnival Build for downloading and playing with.

Happy Mother's Day (May 26th)

I'm not from the US, besides I was intending to drop it on the 12th but got busy with other work.

Alas, there's not enough content of familial WX and Wicker so I'm here to provide to those few who care.

Rewatching some episodes of Avatar in my sick state...and man, that silent sequence with Zuko where he sneaks into the Northern Water tribe is still like, the coolest thing. I remember being so impressed with it as a kid because it really made you feel the struggle he was going through to not freeze to death and it was so rare for cartoons to have totally silent sequences like that (minus Zuko briefly yelling at animals) where you were just feeling nothing but the intensity of the life and death struggle. It also just gets across how relentless and tenacious he is, entirely visually.

There's kind of the anime influence there because kids cartoons at the time were all bangbang next piece of dialogue, whereas a Ghibli movie would trust itself to be engaging enough that you could just sit with what the animation was saying.

Plus it was just such a cool firebending effect with the breath of fire and his hands heating up and breaking through the ice...

It's such a small sequence, but it just kind of captures what made the show special, in a way, and I think that kind of sticks with me.
