hellolololo!¡! so i recently saw this video where their
s/o goes on to omegle and the other person from omegle like goes “hi ur cute” or “u have snap?” and then their boyfriend just enters the frame,, can u do that to todobakudeku separately :3
if u dont understand u can check this out 😭 https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSJdEqc7V/ tyy ❤️❤️
“ur kinda cute” on omegle
(tiktok prank)
character(s) : todoroki shouto, bakugou katsuki, midoriya izuku (bnha)
part two — part three
legend : [Y/N = your name] they/them pronouns used, quirk not mentioned
headcanon type : fluff, crack — ‘x reader’
note(s) : i love these types of requests 🤩 so i plan on making 3 parts with this (oh and don’t worry, i’ll finish the other tiktok prank series i have going on at the moment)
also, there’s no proofread on this so if there’s any typos or mistakes, sorry! i’ll be editing them in the morning
┈ ✁✃✁✃✁✃✁✃✁ ┈
todoroki shouto
okay so, the entire tiktok idea was planned— but the part where shouto came in surely wasn’t staged
so, being a curious young person— you wanted to make a tiktok, where you went on omegle just to speak to people for fun
and inside of your head, you’re kinda thinking that “this is dumb, omg im going to get flashed on there.” also while you were setting up your laptop
but you just used the appropriate tags and !! you were set off for an adventure
you set your phone aside, and you filmed most of the experience— cutting out the not so interesting encounters out of your tiktok
and then came on a dude, who had a,, unique reaction. he didn’t seem all that fishy— until he asked you for your snap (your social medias, essentially)
“you’re kinda cute, y’know. how did i not see you before?”
you shake your head, “oh no no! i appreciate your compliment, but i’m very much taken!” your mind immediately flashing back to the image of your icyhot boyfriend
“nahh you’re lying! i don’t see any dude back there”
oh,, and that was because shouto was out getting snacks 🧎 “no really dude, i appreciate it! i’m very much taken and being disloyal is out of the question!”
this dude just kept insisting and insisting, and due to the struggle— you weren’t able to hear the door knob jiggle
it seemed to be that his advances came to an end, and your lover made an entrance— a mop of red and white peaked out from the door frame
and the dude literally got scared and ended the conversation 💀 because you really weren’t lying!
you also figured that it was time to end your omegle shenanigans, and finish the tiktok— because your boyfriend was already there “hi love, who were you talking to?”
you closed your laptop, and offered him a smile “i was on omegle for a tiktok! i’m glad you’re back.” you discard your phone, wrapping your arms around his torso (and also making sure you don’t delete the draft)
shouto doesn’t say a lot, but he immediately accepts your touch, setting the groceries aside.
he doesn’t question the fact that you were on omegle because well,, he had to get used to your shenanigans on tiktok SOMEHOW
a few hours later, you posted the tiktok— and almost immediately, the tiktok gains a lot of attention
“i love how your boyfriend drove the last dude away 💀💀” “man the last dude didn’t take the hint 🗿” “your boyfriend indirectly protected you! we need more guys like him.”
you snicker at the comments, which ultimately gathered shouto’s attention “what’s up, love?”
you show him the tiktok, “the tiktok did well.” he’ll comment calmly, but shouto’s lowkey MAD ?? that a dude had the audacity. but he’s just glad that you’re happy just maybe,, don’t go on omegle anymore 💀
“love— next time, let me in on your tiktoks.” he says, running a thumb along your cheek lightly. because he was actually quite entertained, putting everything aside
bakugou katsuki
as if bakugou katsuki would let you go on OMEGLE, a place that’s known for having the sketchiest people to ever exist— but make it virtual
but being with you made him realize that well,, if you want to do something, you’ll go through lengths just to do it.
even the great bakugou katsuki can’t really stop you. whatever makes you happy— but oh, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t highly discourage it
which lead you to go on omegle for a tiktok in the other room, while bakugou exercised in the very next room.
when you told him that you wanted to film a tiktok, bakugou only shrugged— “don’t do overly dumb shit.” was what he only told you and he left the door open too
you then set up your phone and laptop, applied the appropriate tags— and went off to make your tiktok
you only filmed the interesting encounters, and the people you met on there were very diverse in personality and just,, in general.
after the 4th encounter, then came a rather interesting dude. he didn’t seem all that ordinary but he wasn’t spectacular. he was just nice
and the conversation was rather normal— until he started asking for your socials “putting everything aside, do you have social media? you’re really cute.”
you reject immediately, “oh no, i appreciate your words but— i already have a boyfriend.”
you just have to hope that he noticed bakugou walking back and forth with equipment, but with his next words— that doesn’t seem to be the case
“i didn’t see anyone back there, a simple no would’ve been sufficient instead.” uh oh
“no really, i—” and before things escalated, katsuki’s head peaked through the door frame, freshly out of the shower “are you almost done, idiot?”
the dude literally looked behind you, and thought “oh shit, their boyfriend is bakugou fucking katsuki.” because bakugou is famous for,, multiple different reasons
the dude’s camera shakes in terror, “oh uhm,, it was nice meeting you!” not long before he dips from of the conversation, never to be seen again.
closing your laptop— you end the tiktok while bursting into laughter, and this action just confused katsuki ever further. he heard you speaking to someone, and when he looked, the person was nowhere to be seen
“what are you laughing at??”
“nothing katsuki, i was laughing at the tiktok i just made.”
then— you figured that it would be best to tell katsuki now that you were on omegle (long story short, he wasn’t pleased)
he scolded you that you shouldn’t be on omegle, but let’s be honest, he couldn’t stay mad at you— so he just cuddles the frustration away
when you upload the tiktok the following hours, it blows up pretty quickly—with comments like “LOL IS THAT BAKUGOU KATSUKI??” “he had guts until he saw bakugou katsuki 💀” “tbh i’d be scared too”
and when you report the news the katsuki, he smirks— “as he should be.”
midoriya izuku
at this point, izuku is very much used to your shenanigans on tiktok. he’s very supportive of whatever you do all in all
but, about omegle,,, yeah,, as much as he trusts you— he does not trust omegle. he’s aware that it’s a shady place, and he doesn’t advise that you do go on that website bc he cares
so when you brought up the tiktok idea, he proposed that he’d be there, right beside you just to monitor if anyone’s being weird :)
and that’s great! because you also wanted to ask if he wanted to be a reoccuring guest in your tiktok— and of course, what kind of boyfriend would he be if he opposed?
he helps you set up your laptop and phone— all of that sort of stuff, and then you guys were off to make an interesting tiktok
oh, but izuku did apply the appropriate tags because he didn’t want you to see odd things he was secretly nervous but,, you were very ethusiastic, so he was too.
the first several people were interesting in their own way— especially with their reactions to your boyfriend appearing on screen
usually, they’d back off with, and comment on how cute your boyfriend is— wishing the both of you well before calmly leaving to meet new people,
that was how it was, until you met this person in particular.
he sounded very,, egotistical— i wouldn’t say that because you’ve just met the dude, but he acted like everyone wanted him or it sounded like that
then he says, “you definitely have a phone number, right? you’re cute, just my type.” wkdksmd this is awkward since izuku’s right beside you, but he’s just outside of the frame
then, izuku pops out of the frame— in all his cute ass glory, he gives a small wave to the not so pleased stranger
“please, that’s your boyfriend?” he scoffs, “with those arms, he looks like he could be your little brother! now let me ask again—”
it’s really weird?? because have you seen izuku’s gainz?? and this dude’s audacity is extraordinary.
but little did this guy know, he’s looking at midoriya izuku— and,, you’ve seen his performance in the sports festival.
the dude takes another glance at your boyfriend, who’s sitting there right beside you— and he realizes who he was talking to
“oh shit, you’re—” and before the both of you could realize it, he nopes out of the conversation.
after that encounter, you burst into a fit of laughter— the look on izuku’s face being priceless. “you should’ve seen your reaction!”
“haha, i guess he knew who i was,” he says bashfully, cheeks warming up. because it registered in his mind that people actually knew who he was. “can you,, upload the tiktok later? i want to hug you— i mean! if that’s fine.”
of course it’s fine! you oblige, and give him all the hugs he could ever need
after cuddling with izuku, you do upload the tiktok— and an hour later, your tiktok notifications blow up
the tiktok all in all gathered 1M views, 780K likes, and over 1,500 comments— most of them saying stuff like
“your boyfriend’s reaction was so cute?? i know he looked like he was going to punch him through the screen but 👀” “last dude was just not it.” “LMAO HE REALLY TRIED IT” “is your boyfriend IZUKU MIDORIYA??”
when you excitingly showed him the tiktok’s results, he was certainly pleased— because most of the comments were positive, and also because the tiktok’s results made you happy
“i’m glad that it did well!” he’ll sigh in relief, pressing a kiss against your temple, let’s just not go on there ever again

Yuri x popular Fem!reader
summary: fluffy fic in which the reader sees Yuri while working at a coffee shop and intends to be closer friends with her.
word count: 2.1k
"Y/N!"
You stop in your tracks, turning to scan the tables around you for the source of the voice; it was kind of familiar, and your eyes fall on a customer that's a regular here at the coffee shop. A young man around your age, usually here with his friends but alone today.
You had been about to go make another coffee for a different customer, but you force a service smile onto your face and hurry over to his table. "Hello!" You wrack your brain for a second to bring a name to this man- it wasn't easy keeping track of so many different people, and not just at your job! You also tried to keep tabs on the majority of your peers from school, too. Fortunately, it clicks a moment later. "Hatsumi, was everything alright?" You ask, noting he's already finished his pastry and drink.
Hatsumi grins, clearly pleased you had remembered him. Customers tended to get really happy over little things like that... if only they knew you did this with all of them. It was no secret you were one of the favorites here at the little shop, consistently getting better tips than many of your coworkers. "It was great!" He answers you brightly.
You nod and inquire politely, "Would you like me to go ahead and bring the bill out now?"
A moment of hesitation, and then, "Oh- uh, yes, thanks." He seems a bit disappointed, but you don't have time to dwell on it right now, not with how busy today's rush hour is. The only good thing is you're hopefully going to be getting off in about a half hour.
You assure him you'll be right back and then flit off to the counter to ring up the items he'd ordered and print the bill. As you're doing so, you feel a tap on your shoulder.
Glancing up, you see your favorite coworker, a girl several years older than you. "Y/N," she begins, a bit of a pleading look in her eyes that means she's about to ask you for a favor.
Biting back a sigh, you push down whatever annoyance you have at being interrupted to look expectantly at her. "What's up?"
"Can we please switch tables really quickly?" She practically begs you.
Switching tables wasn't too terribly uncommon- sometimes when guests came in, the baristas would know them outside of work and might ask a coworker to deal with the order and anything else.
"Sure," you giggle, ever the people-pleaser. You had a reputation to keep, after all! You don't like to brag, but you do enjoy the fact that you have many different friends and are well-liked by just about everyone you know. "Who?"
She gives a hop of delight. "Can I take the bill to Hatsumi?"
You can't help but smirk mischievously. "Ohhhhh, I see."
She lightly smacks you on the arm, instantly blushing. "Nono, I just-"
You cut her off before she can defend herself, knowing the two of you don't really have the time to waste playing around. "It's no worries. And who's that order for?" You question as you point at the circular silver tray in her hands which is holding a cute polka-dotted cup of tea.
"Ah, this goes to table three, the girl with the purple hair."
You nod, exchanging the bill for the tray. You want to watch and see what will happen between your friend and Hatsumi, if anything, but when you look towards the designated table, already heading for it, you realize you recognize the girl sitting there.
You have no trouble recalling her name. One of the members of your Literature Club, Yuri...
You haven't actually been in the club all that long at all, maybe a week-ish, and you feel like you haven't had any time at all to get properly acquainted with Yuri. Part of you feels that it's a shame, because you get the sense she's a very interesting and sweet person beneath her quiet and distant shell. It's just hard when she's always reading, and even in the rare moments she's not, she doubts herself so much during conversations with you that it just ends up being a bit weird.
But not today! No, you're suddenly filled with a sense of determination to get closer to Yuri.
You consider playfully scaring her when you walk up, but ultimately decide against it; aside from being naturally timid anyway, she's also, as usual, reading, and doesn't seem aware of anything going on in the shop around her. So, yeah, best to use a more gentle approach.
"Hey, you," you say, putting all the friendliness in your voice as possible, stopping beside the table to greet her.
In spite of everything, Yuri still jumps a bit in her seat, violet gaze flashing up to you in alarm.
'So much for trying not to scare her,' you think unhappily. Pushing that thought away, you give her a reassuring smile. "Sorry, it's just me! Y/N. We're in the Literature Club together," you try to remind her, wondering with a pang of horror if she's actually forgotten who you are. That would be a first for you.
A second of silence, but at last Yuri's tense grip on her book loosens, and she glances down at it, avoiding making eye contact. "O-Oh, I'm sorry."
Another awkward beat of silence. This was what you meant!! It always went like this with Yuri, and you wished more than anything that you knew how to make her more comfortable around you. Hoping to carry the burden of saving this interaction, you laugh nervously, "It's no worries! But, you didn't forget me, did you?" As much as you're just trying to joke around, there really is a slight feeling of hurt that that may very well have been the case.
Yuri stiffens, quickly answering, "No, I- I didn't!" It's a rushed response, louder than you've ever heard her speak and yet still quieter than most people's normal speaking voice. As if embarrassed by her small outburst, she ducks her head to add quietly, "Uhm, that is- I just meant that... I wouldn't ever forget you, Y/N."
Oh. Talk about giving someone butterflies. You never knew what to expect with Yuri- sometimes she could never get her words out, but then other times she'd say something with such a deep meaning that it would catch you entirely off guard. What's odd though is you know for a fact how truly sincere she is; Yuri is the type of person that's much deeper than most people, and she wouldn't say something if she didn't really think or believe it.
"Thank you, Yuri," you say warmly, setting her tea down near her on the table. "Here you go! I like this kind, too." Truthfully, since you hadn't taken the order yourself or even made the drink, you weren't 100% sure what kind of tea this was, but you were willing to try anything to make Yuri more at ease. It also wasn't unheard of for you to make conversation with customers, even if it was busier than usual right now- for once though, you weren't aiming to make a good tip or secure a regular customer. You genuinely wanted to talk with her. "Hey, is that the same book you're reading at the club?" You question after catching a glimpse of the cover art.
She shakes her head, causing some of her bangs to fall into her face. Brushing them out of the way, she frowns and then nods. "W-Well, kind of. I finished that one yesterday... this is the sequel," she explains.
"It must be pretty good if you want to read the next part already," you comment. "What's it about?"
As predicted, Yuri noticeably perks up. "Oh, I think you would really enjoy it, Y/N. It's about-"
"Y/N!"
You flinch at the stern voice of your shift supervisor, who apparently hadn't realized Yuri was speaking when he cut her off.
You glance back to see him gesturing at you in clear annoyance, motioning to the line of guests waiting for their drinks to be made. You nod, signaling you'll be right over.
Focusing back on Yuri, you're unable to mask your disappointment. "I'm sorry, I've gotta get back to work. I'm supposed to be off in a little bit though."
Yuri seems to also be discouraged, apologizing for keeping you, even though you're the one who had intentionally kept the talk going. She bites her lip, and then, probably overtaken by a brief moment of courage, suggests, "When you get off, maybe then I could tell you about the books?"
You're stunned, but at the same time, this was precisely what you'd been hoping for! "Yes, sure! That sounds great. I'll see you then!" You chirp, hurrying away.
The last of your shift passes by rather quickly, and when it comes time to clock out, you actually have to tell your supervisor no, you can't stay another extra hour even if they are busy, because you have plans! Normally you would have, but not today.
You meet Yuri at the door and the two of you leave the coffee shop together. The sun is close to setting, but not quite there yet. "Thank you again, Yuri! I like spending time with you, I've just been a little busy lately," you say.
Yuri mumbles something you can't quite hear, but then adds more clearly, "I-I'm glad..."
"So," you begin, clasping your hands behind you and beaming at her. "About those books!"
That's all it takes for Yuri to dive into an explanation of the main plot points as the two of you walk side by side towards your home.
You're more than a bit tired from work and standing on your feet for so long, but it's nice to have company on the walk back, especially someone like Yuri. You hum and comment every so often, honestly thinking that they did sound like the sort of books you would enjoy. Full of fantasy and mystery and thrills... and of course, romance.
"So, the main character ditches his friend, who's been with him the whole time, for the new girl? And she's from the enemy's group?" You surmise.
Yuri hesitates. "I don't want to spoil anything for you if you're wanting to read them for yourself..."
"Such a tease," you sigh, pretending to be betrayed. "Oh, we're here- this is my house."
The two of you stop at the gate leading to the front yard of your home, and you're positive you aren't imagining the plaintive expression on Yuri's face. You didn't really want your time together to end either, but alas, you both have classes tomorrow.
"If- If you really would like, you can borrow the first book from me," offers Yuri. "And then... you'll see for yourself how it all goes."
You nod enthusiastically. "Yes, please! Thank you, that's really sweet of you! We can discuss it too after I'm finished reading it. I think I already know who my favorite character is going to be, though."
Yuri tilts her head curiously. "Who would that be?"
"Nope! It's a secret, for now." You pause, glancing up at the darkening sky. "Will you be okay walking home by yourself?"
Her violet eyes soften at your concern. "Yes, I don't live very far from here."
You find yourself unsure of how to say goodbye to Yuri, an uncertain quiet settling over the two of you, but she doesn't seem to find it awkward. "Okay, if you're sure. Do you mind giving me your phone number, though?"
She starts in surprise, a dusting of pink covering her cheeks. "U-Uhm- I- you-?"
"So you can text me when you get home," you quickly defend your reasoning, feeling a bit shy yourself at Yuri's reaction. She really was unique- most people tried to play it cool when asking for or giving numbers.
"R-Right," she stammers, reciting it off for you, and her phone buzzes at the quick text message you sent her so she would have your number.
"I'll see you tomorrow then, at the Literature Club," you finally say, already looking forward to it. "And don't forget to bring the book, please!"
Yuri steps back, her gaze on the ground but you still see her smile to herself. "Yes, I will. Bye, Y/N." She seems like she has something else she wants to say, but then she gives herself a shake and quickly turns away, her long hair twirling to follow her.
You watch her go until you can't see her anymore, partly due to wanting to make sure she was safe.
You couldn't help but admire her for her intelligence and beauty, even if she seemed to admire your social skills in return. Hopefully this was the start of a very deep relationship with Yuri.

Unus Annus Secrets
Here I’m going to try and explain all of the Unus Annus codes + possible lore. If I have forgotten some information or if one of these links doesnt work/is incorrect please let me know. This post will be updated when needed.
This is LONG, so be prepared.
At first, these codes were only in videos edited by NerdFiction, but as of October 26th this is no longer true. (The possible exception to this would be the first video I’ve listed, as the editor is not in the description).
1) 5 Weird Apps That Predicted Our Death
“Here at Unus Annus the end is nigh... when the timer hits zero we will cease to exist. is it fate? is this a simulation? Can anybody hear me? My name is.... [FILE REDACTED]”. Timestamp - 0:14
2) Ethan Roasts Mark for 15 Minutes Straight
“and in the comments, you will read the words you soon will see are wise controlling pawns who type our deed ‘That is Discord, not FaceTime’” Timestamp - 0:40
“within this truth a question stands, is the pee sauna ever close?”. [“Pee Sauna”was uploaded about a week afterwards] Timestamp - 0:40
3) Our Fans Try to Scare Us with Their Homemade Creepypasta
“What will happen if the clock stops”
“Could I find a way to keep it going?”
“If neither hand is right, what deals are left?”
“Who is the master of the clock?” (all around 8:44)
4) Learning to Cry on Command to Increase Our Youtube Views
“remember the key, the incompletion of a logolept’s corrective action” [a logolept is “a person who takes a keen interest in words”. Marcus is likely referring to himself.] Timestamp - 1:49
“the long wait ends with twenty four more for a path of destiny chosen before”[“Pee Sauna” was uploaded the day after] (closely after the last code)
5) Becoming One With the Horse
“They heard me, I knew it could work!” (timestamp currently unknown; to be updated)
Around this time, NerdFiction’s Twitter bio said, among his normal information, that he was “trying to stop the Unus Annus clock from within.”
6) Preparing a 5-Star Meal for Our Youtube Famous Dogs
“I couldn’t stop it. Will I die with the machine?” (Timestamp - 21:33)
7) Does This Magnetic Skincare Routine Really Work?
“freed or so I thought. Another layer, but still the clock.” (Timestamp - 9:45)
“The Beginning of The End”.
On July 26th, at 12pm PST, a video was uploaded to Unus Annus titled “Traversing the Desert to Find Our Inner Truth”. This video was only up for a few minutes before it mysteriously disappeared, only to be replaced by another video, titled “The Beginning of The End”. At first glance, the videos were identical, save for different titles and slightly different descriptions. However, the second video was slightly longer than the first, and upon further inspection, many came to realize that the audio was slightly different as well. You can listen to both audios here. There was a rumor going around that the captions of “Traversing the Desert to Find Our Inner Truth” said something about looking out for Norbert Moses, but no one has been able to confirm this to my knowledge.
8) Puberty Simulator
“Happy birthday to the beast or to the body that once housed me. A transfer made for pity’s sake. Tricked into the machine as he had my cake.” (Timestamp - 14:36) [The same code was found a week earlier in “Mark and Ethan Shave Chica”, uploaded on NerdFiction’s birthday. The original code was very difficult to make out, so it is likely he inserted it into a different video to make it easier for us.]
On the same day, NerdFiction’s Twitter bio read “Everyone must leave something behind when he dies. Memento Memoriae” (remember memory)
In “The Koala Challenge: TikTok’s Intimate Couple’s Trend” one of the clips is edited to look like a TikTok video, with the user ron_somberest being used. Ron_Somberest is an anagram for Norbert Moses. This TikTok account does actually exist, and the icon is a zoomed in and brightened photo of Norbert Moses’s face with the eyes scribbled out.
Around this time NerdFiction’s Twitter bio read “’It’s not dark, never was’ - Ron Bestsmore”. Ron Bestsmore is also an anagram for Norbert Moses. It is possible that the “dark” being referred to here is Darkiplier, and NerdFiction is trying to imply that Dark is not involved in this.
About a week after the koala challenge video was “How to Start a Fire (except don’t)”, which featured an appearance from Unus. NerdFiction’s Twitter bio read “In the end, who is your savior and what are they saving you from?”
Things were quiet for about a month. NerdFiction eventually erased the cryptic message from his Twitter bio.
9) Learning To Use The Force
“wait no something is wrong. he knows!” (Timestamp - 10:45) [translated from small coded words hidden in the montage]
“STOPTHISWHATAREYOUDOINGO3″ (Timestamp - 11:40)
“it worked” (a spectrogram, derived from a sound played at the end of the video)
10) Momiplier Tells Us True Scary Stories from Korea
“As I was, as I’ve done to him now. Am I right to decide his fate?” (Timestamp - 5:44) [Right before this, Mark’s mom is talking about a nightmare she had where she was paralyzed, possibly implying that nerdfiction was once paralyzed and has now paralyzed someone else (pointed out by @/minervas-sandwich)]
11) Cryptid Olympics
“I thought you’d join us but, hey, that was just a theory, Memento Doctrina” (remember learning). (Timestamp - 5:49) [The code references the Game Theorists channel, which had uploaded a video about Unus Annus earlier that same day.]
- From here on, every video has had some sort of code -
12) Edward Pumpkin Hands - This was the first coded video not edited by NerdFiction, instead being edited by Diceroll.
At various points throughout the video small parts of a url are seen. When pieced together, this link is made: https://imgur.com/a/tyDewJ7. It leads to a photo of the Unus Annus hourglass. When edited, a series of binary text is shown, which translates to “zhIaNL2“. Inputting this into another imgur link gets you to https://imgur.com/a/zhIaNL2. After editing the photo (although you can still sorta see it without doing so), a cipher of a custom alphabet is shown (I posted an edited photo here).
At 5:01 in the video a weird image is shown for only a moment (a slightly brightened version of it here). Nobody knows what the hell it means.
At the same time, there is a reversed audio of someone (presumably Ethan; it sounds like him) saying “we did that”. For context, the sentence said right before that line was “if one of us dies, the other has to take over for the remainder of time”. This is possibly implying that someone, or multiple someones, has/have died and been replaced.
13) Blood Bath - edited by rad_r
“Everything’s fine”
The Unus Annus timer is shown. It counts down for three seconds before counting up for one second. Heavy breathing can be heard over it. It is then cancelled by an error message
“ITS NOT FINE HELP” (this and the previous two messages are hidden at 5:57)
“you’ve done it now.. a machine observed. there is no returning.. a machine unnerved. there is only.. a machine unconqured.” (right at the end of the video, before the timer)
14) The Unus Annus Annual Costume Contest - edited by nerdfiction

At the end of the video before the timer is a set of text in the custom alphabet previously mentioned. Translated and decoded it translates to “I can hear it coming theres not much time left the ones that tried to stop it have had their hearts cleft it is now your turn to put this loop to rest take us out of here and show us a new nest”

Thank you for reading! Leave a like or comment if you enjoyed, it helps me a lot! (Author’s note in the end of the chapter)
“Let me get this straight” Y/N says, her brows furrowed in thought.
“Right, shoot.” Obito responds patiently.
“You can teleport into other dimensions, become intangible, predict movements, copy jutsu instantly, see chakra energy and use the one of the most powerful genjutsu with that eye of yours?”
“Don’t forget about recording everything I see when it is active. And that’s only my eye; I can do other jutsu, of course.” He corrects, proud of himself and his prowess.
“Well, shit. Anything else I need to know for our strategies?”
“Oh! I have some special cells from the first Hokage that help me heal really quickly and gives me extra chakra. In addition, as you know, I have a proficiency in fire type jutsu. That’s all.”
“Fuck, that’s a lot to remember.” She laughs as she stands on her feet, walking away from the tree they were both sitting under. “Come here Obito, I think I have an idea for us.”
Obito slowly gets up, watching as she centers herself in the middle of the training grounds. As he lazily follows his teammate, he wonders about how the past week flew by. Things are still as awkward as they were in their last outing, but it feels comfortable to him, as weird as it sounds. The Uchiha has become addicted with the rushing feeling he experiences when they are both alone, talking about nonsense.
Despite its effects to his sanity, the anxiety he feels around her makes him want more and more moments with her. Not only those moments, but also moments where he gets to make physical contact. Now that he has a minimal amount of it, he longs intensely for situations where they might share an accidental or innocent touch. He feels this certain possessiveness around her, the natural instinct of keeping himself close and in touch with her. Obito feels bad for being so addicted to it, but he just knows he cannot stop what he has been feeling lately.
What am I feeling?
He feels utterly stupid, he is sure about that. So stupid for not being able to control his urges or for acting like a fool near her. Instantly, he becomes self-aware and tries to close the smile creeping upon his lips, but to no avail. He just gives up on thinking about this matter for now. Lord knows he has been wondering about this too much.
As Obito finally reaches the center of the field, Y/N starts explaining her plan:
“So, we’re compatible, right?”
“…Uhm?” Obito tries to control his blood flow, trying to avoid letting his face dare to go red.
“Our chakra natures, they’re compatible. Fire and wind?”
“Oh, yes.” He pauses, clearing his throat before continuing: “What do you have in mind then?”
“You know the whirlpool your sharingan creates when using kamui? That fire jutsu you do with it, dance bomb something?”
“Yeah, bomb blast dance.”
“Right!” She continues with an excited gleam on her eyes, “We could increase that even more with my wind style! And then add my blades plus some other tricks.”
Obito seriously ponders her proposal. He got the general idea, but he worries about the practicality of it.
“Wouldn’t this be risky for you?”
“I’m fast, I can do it.”
“No, we’re not doing it Y/N.”
“Pleaaaaase! Come on!” She throws a playful smile at him, trying to convince him of doing as she pleases. “I promise you anything! I’ll even drop the sewer boy thing!”
Fuck, this woman will be the death of me…
“Fine. Promise me you’ll be careful”
She nods at him, agreeing with the proposition. After some minor explications about her plans for the technique, they both put it in action.
Obito places himself in a fixed position, with Y/N right behind him. He does the signs for the basic Uchiha fireball jutsu and activates his kamui, causing the flames to dance around in a whirlpool and taking over and immense area.
Y/N emerges from behind, kicking the ground and following the whirlpool, creating wind with her increasing speed. She runs along the flames, spreading them even further and avoiding them at the same time.
Fire blasts with full force and breaks everything on its way, including the soil surrounding their target area.
As she reaches the end of the whirlpool, she appears to falter in her steps, accidentally falling into the flames. The clone pops, revealing the real Y/N, who launches across an intangible Obito with her swords, finishing the attack with a surprise blow of the sword, previously hidden behind her partner.
As she finishes it, she looks back at Obito. Her hair is all messy from launching herself at an incredible speed. Her smile is wild, taken over by the adrenaline of combat. Obito feels all of those things again, but he is happy for it.
She will be the death of me.
“We did it!” She puts her arms in the air, celebrating the creation of their new joined technique.
Obito catches up to her, approaching his teammate. On a whim, he hugs her hard, interlacing his arms on her waist and burying himself on her neck, all while picking her up from the ground and spinning.
“Fuck, we did it! We did it, Y/N!” He says, as he also explodes in happiness as she giggles in his arms.
Obito had been trying to modify his fire jutsu for ages; he finally did it, thanks to her. The Uchiha is amazed on someone so new to the practice of jutsu surpassed his creativity in creating new techniques.
He finally puts her down, scratching his neck in embarrassment upon realizing what he just did.
“Sorry, got carried away.” He laughs sheepishly, trying to justify himself.
“Don’t worry about that, relax.” She soothes him as she tries to smile a bit, also taken over by self-consciousness.
Obito kicks some dirt around with his shoes and then looks at the sun, trying to think of something to say and catching his breath. By its position, it is almost noon, lunchtime.
“Fuck”
“What?” She asks him, confused.
“Forgot my lunch at home today.”
“Shit. Me too, I didn’t even bring a backpack.”
Of course, they both forgot their bags. Obito decided to invite Y/N for training on Saturday at the last minute, the two of them for sure went out on a hurry. Both break into laughter as Y/N’s belly makes a noise, indicating her hunger.
“I have an idea, come with me.” He says, guiding Y/N into the nearby Uchiha district.
~”~
Y/N follows Obito into his family’s district on the outskirts of Konoha. Crossing the big gates, she finally sees other Uchihas from up close. Since it was too late in the evening the last time she came here, uninvited, she did not have the opportunity to check if they were all like Obito or not.
Glancing at the men and woman walking down the street, she could definitely notice that the good looks were a family thing. Everyone had that same sharp look and features, although Obito seemed to be a lot bulkier and rough than the rest of them. He clearly stood out in the midst of them. She concludes that although his genes might already favor him, he is truly blessed with outstanding looks.
Stop thinking about that, damn…
She cannot stop, not anymore. At this point, she figures that she might be sick in the head in some way. These inappropriate thoughts about her partner and mentor keep flooding her mind, along with the unmistakable longing for his presence when he is absent.
Here they are, training on a Saturday, all because she is incapable of setting limits between them and backing off. Incapable of containing the dreadful things she is feeling, things she knows well enough and is utterly scared of acting upon.
This far into it, she knows it is not only a crush anymore. This last week has been torturous, since she suspects that he has been acting so weirdly because he is figuring out her secret, she is genuinely scared of losing her friend.
You know what this means. Control yourself, he wants nothing to do with you, not like that. Why would he?
She tries to concentrate back into the present again, walking closer to Obito to not lose track of him. People along the way stare at them both of them, especially at Y/N, a stranger to the district.
Obito stops to talk to an older woman by a house near his, the woman dawning dark hair like his. She approaches the both of them:
“Hi! You must be Y/N, right?” the woman says, greeting her.
“Hello! Yes, nice to meet you!” she responds, trying to be the most courteous as possible.
“I’m Mikoto, It’s a pleasure to meet you too. Obito told us a lot about you” She says, kindly.
“N-no I did not.” Obito pouts, something Y/N learned he usually does when he feels embarrassed or slightly annoyed. “So, do you want me to help you carry those boxes?” He says as he points at some crates by the door of the house.
“Oh sure! Thanks Obito, I’ll be right back, Y/N.”
Obito grabs two of the crates and enters into the house, signaling silently to her that he would be back soon. Mikoto follows him inside, guiding him. As both vanish inside the house, Y/N notices two presences behind her.
Turning around, she is met with two teenagers, clearly Uchiha too by the black hair and intense facial features. One has long hair and the other, slightly taller than the first one, short hair. Both are standing by a bush, the one they were probably hiding into.
“Uhm, hi?”
“Hi.” The longhaired one says with his expression blank.
“Can I help you guys?”
“Don’t worry, we’re just curious.” The second one responds, a playful look in his dark eyes.
“Curious?”
“You know, about our cousin’s love lif-“ The first one tries to say but gets interrupted by Obito, who storms into the conversation:
“Itachi, Shisui, if you follow me again I’ll make sure you’re banned from the village, got it?” Obito points at both of them with his ungloved hands.
Obito then grabs her hand and takes her away from the pair, doing his best to cut the conversation with his relatives short. Looking at the pair, Y/N sees Shisui whisper something to the longhaired guy, the one she now knows is called Itachi. They both smile as she goes away with Obito.
Arriving at Obito’s house, Y/N is confronted by the silence of it. The place is tidied up, filled with well-kept old furniture. She did not have much time to notice the details of it on her last visit, other things were distracting her.
Obito calls her into the kitchen and she follows him. The Uchiha is leaning on the fridge, looking for food to feed both of their trembling stomachs.
“I think I have enough to make some sandwiches for us, is it okay for you?”
“Yup.” She responds, glancing at the place’s decoration, or lack thereof. The house seems to be as sterile as Obito’s personality when she met him, she laughs to herself. “Hey, where’s your bathroom?”
“First door on the left, by the corridor.” He points as he struggles to carry out a ton of food ou of the fridge.
She heads there and washes up a bit, tidying her hair, still a bit messy from training. She is a bit self conscious of meeting his family all fucked up like she did, but hell, it is not like she would see them often anyway. On her way back, she notices a framed picture on the corridor. One of the very few pieces of decoration she saw on the entire house.
Pictured are a cute girl with brown hair and face paint and a boy wearing a black mask covering half of his face, accompanied by a younger fourth Hokage.
Must be Kakashi and Rin, they look so young in here!
Standing by the side is a boy with messy black hair and a pout she learned to recognize from miles away. He is wearing a cute orange and blue outfit, accompanied by a huge pair of orange goggles on his tiny face. It has to be Obito.
He was such a cute kid, oh my god!
She thinks to herself, trying not to laugh at the fact that the all mighty Obito was such a cutesy child in the past.
“I’m kicking you out if you laugh at the goggles.”
Obito catches her smiling at the picture, making her let out a big huff of contained laughter.
“You were so cute! I can’t!”
He pouts once again, his face as displeased as it is on the picture, although with a more playful tone.
“Come, I made the sandwiches for us, busybody.”
Delicious was an understatement for Obito’s sandwiches. They had the perfect amount of mayo and fillings, it was a godly experience. Y/N just knows she could never cook like this. Obito sits beside her on the island benches, devouring his own sandwich.
Y/N takes a moment to gaze at him while he tries to clean himself up with a napkin. She sees that he missed a spot on the corner of his lip, right beside the small scar he has there. Oh that scar, she had not noticed that one before. It is a small dimple in his lower right lip, cutting through it. She wonders about how it must feel to the touch. On a whim, she cleans the small spot of sauce with her thumb, not quite touching the scar, but still making contact with his surprisingly soft lips.
Obito appears to be surprised by the gesture, but does not move away or interrupt her. He just stands there, with a weird expression on his face. Y/N immediately gets embarrassed by her own action, her face getting redder and redder.
Shit, shit, shit…
A noise coming from the window above the sink interrupts her train of thought:
“Oh my-“
“Shhh Shut up!”
“You shut up!”
“Aaaaah Ouch!” three separate voices say it at the same time as a loud crack echoes across the room.
Obito and her get up, approaching the window to find out what is going on. On the bush underneath the window lies a thin tree branch with Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke on top of it, all of them recovering from an unexpected fall.
“Naruto! I’m going to kill you!” Obito shouts from the window.
“Run! Run, guys, run!” Naruto exclaims, picking himself up and running away.
Author’s note: I’m finally approaching the final (and coolest) parts of this story, I’m so anxious to share it with you guys! I am a sucker for pinning and the “dumbasses in love” trope, so pardon me for that lol I love to write about people’s fear and uneasiness on how to deal with their own feelings or how to reveal them to someone. I think that there so much emotion at that stage where both don’t know how to act around each other, so many strong feelings to be explored. I always wanted to write about that and I’m finally allowing myself to do so, despite my insecurities and inexperience. Thank you so much again for your support!

How to Find Your Soulmate
Pairing(s): Non-idol!Namjoon x reader
Genre: Tooth-rotting fluff, teensy bit of angst
Word Count: 10.2k
Warning(s): None
Summary: Where a journey to find his soulmate took a different turn.
A/n I wrote this as a spur in the moment thing, but it surprisingly came out really well.
The familiar sound of keys jiggling from his front door was a sure sign that he was about to lose whatever amount of peacefulness in his tiny apartment. As he braced himself for what was about to come, the door swung open and came in the person he had been waiting for.
Y/n was her name. Peculiar, wild, and random. Her hair basically could represent her entire personality. Unruly, messy, and out of control. She'd been a loner for most of her lifetime. Definitely a big believer in “I’m a strong independent woman who doesn’t need no man”.
It also came as a surprise to Namjoon when he couldn’t help but to be attached to her a long time ago when they were kids. And ever since that, he had gained a new best friend. Or more like the best friend since he didn’t have that many best friends to begin with.
“Joon, let’s go! We have things to do.” Y/n grabbed on his arm and tried to pull him up from his slouched position on his couch. The couch that became worn out so quickly for its rather frequent use whenever he was stressed.
In his defense, it wasn’t his fault that the couch was so comfy.
Failing to pull him up, Y/n groaned in frustration. “Come on! There’s a bazaar downtown that I wanna check. Can’t have me go alone at this time, right?”
“I don’t wanna get up. Let’s just watch Netflix,” he said as he turned on the TV.
Y/n snatched the remote from his hand and turned the TV back off. “Nope. Let’s go. Tomorrow is Saturday anyways, you can watch the TV all you want.”
Namjoon sighed. “What do I get for this?”
Y/n grinned and cupped her cheeks. “You get to spend time with me.”
“Ugh, I don’t want that,” he teased as he pulled himself up from the couch. “I'm tired of seeing your face.”
“You, mister.” She jabbed her finger at him. “Owe me a boba tea, remember? Now is the perfect time to redeem yourself.”
“Remind me not to wake you up again on Sunday mornings.” He shuddered at the memory of seeing bed headed Y/n screaming on top of her lungs, telling him not to wake her up from her beauty sleep or whatever.
“Are you seriously wearing that, though?” he asked as he eyed Y/n’s outfit.
She still wore the same outfit that she had worn since this morning. There was a noticeable coffee stain on her left cufflinks, indicating she probably had bumped her mug with her hand by accident. Her skirt was already crinkled especially on the bottom part. Disclaimer, he totally did not just check her out. Her heels made her feet red and look swollen. They clearly cut off her circulation, but somehow she insisted on wearing them anyways, claiming that she felt sexy and smart and beautiful in them.
“They look uncomfortable,” Namjoon had commented one day after noticing how her heels made Y/n walk weirdly. “Why don’t you just wear sneakers?”
Y/n scoffed, as if what he had said was ridiculous. “Real women don't wear sneakers to work, Joon.”
“Whatever you say, Y/n.” Namjoon had tried hard to stop the urge of rolling his eyes.
Ever since that, he didn’t even want to talk about her heels. “Let her suffer if she wanted that,” he always reminded himself.
Y/n walked to his full-length mirror inside his room and stared at herself. “What’s wrong with this?”
“Just change into more comfortable clothes,” Namjoon said from the living room. “You’d look out of place."
With that, Y/n closed the bedroom door behind her and grumbled. “This is perfectly fine. People do go out after work to a bazaar.”
She actually said more than that. Way more. But at this point, he didn’t even bother to listen to her. It wasn’t like this was his first time ignoring her blabbers. And he was pretty sure she was used to it, too.
Minutes later, Y/n came out to the living room wearing Namjoon’s hoodie and sweatpants. She even managed to find a pair of his sandals that he thought was gone. Sure her outfit now swallowed her, but at least it was more comfortable.
“Alright, let’s go!” was the last thing she said before they left his apartment.
A boba tea and a corn dog later, Namjoon and Y/n were walking aimlessly. They were just following the direction other people were taking, not really sure themselves where they would end up.
“Aren’t you glad I forced you out of that stuffy apartment?”
“Nope. I still rather be on my couch.”
Y/n frowned. “What?” She gestured to their surroundings. “This is so much better.” She saw a small bench and sat on it, gesturing to him to sit beside her. “I think you need to take a breather and just relax, my dude. Whatever problems you have at work, they don’t exist for now.”
“It’s easy for you to say that.”
Y/n slurped hard on her drink, trying to get as many bobas as possible into her mouth. “You-”. Chew. “-think too much-”. Chew. “-of things you can’t-”. Chew. “-control.”
“Okay, finish your drink first. That’s disgusting.”
Y/n laughed while trying to stop her bobas from coming out of her mouth. After succeeding to suppress her laughter, she chewed on the bobas thoroughly before swallowing them.
“You’re an overthinker who misses on great things in life just because you’re too caught up in your problems. And when you realize you missed those things, it’ll be all too late.” Y/n then continued finishing her drink in silence while he was registering what she just said.
He was so focused on his thoughts to the point he didn’t even realize when Y/n had left him to find a trash can. He was only drawn back to reality when Y/n came to him running and yelling his name in excitement.
Y/n spoke in rapid speed to the point she sounded like speaking gibberish. The only thing he heard was “fortune teller” before Y/n yanked on his hand and dragged him to a small kiosk.
The kiosk was mostly empty. No customers were surrounding it unlike other kiosks. But it wasn’t what set it apart from the others. It was the big letters in front of it that read “fortune teller” in big bold text. Inside, there was only one woman sitting, unmoving, seemingly reading something, a book maybe.
Aware of his and Y/n’s presence, the fortune teller looked up from the book and smiled at them both. Unlike what the media portrayed fortune tellers were, that they were scary and mysterious, her smile was warm and friendly.
“Is there something I can do?” The fortune teller closed the book and stood up.
“Yes!” Y/n replied. “My friend here-” She gestured to Namjoon “-wants to know his future.” After a few seconds of pause, she added, “And about his soulmate too, please.”
Before he could respond, the fortune teller beat him to it. “Very well.” The fortune teller cracked her knuckles before staring deep into his eyes. Her gaze somehow made him feel naked, vulnerable.
They hold their gaze for a while. As seconds became minutes, he felt breathless, and hot. The gaze that at first was soft but strong, became sharper and almost felt painful. But not long after, the fortune teller focused back at Y/n who stood still beside him, gawking at her. He could finally let out a breath that he didn’t realize he had been holding.
“From what I can tell, your friend is on the right track. He’s doing well, but he won’t be if he can’t appreciate the simple things in life,” the fortune teller explained. “As for his soulmate, he already knows who they are, he even knows where they are. The only thing left for him to do is just to figure it out within himself.”
The thing was, he didn’t believe in fortune tellers, astrology, and whatnot. He never even cared about things like that. But seeing Y/n’s grin and the glint in her eyes as she thanked the fortune teller and gave her a tip, he didn’t say anything against it. As much as Y/n called him boring, he wasn’t the type to burst people’s bubble of happiness.
Throughout the walk to Y/n’s apartment, she kept talking about what the fortune teller had said.
“Gosh, I can’t believe you know who your soulmate is.” Y/n lightly punched on his arm. “You never tell me anything.”
Namjoon shrugged. “What’s there to talk about? I don’t know who my soulmate is either. I apparently need to figure it out myself.”
“I know what we can do!”
This sounded like he was about to be in for a bad time. “What?”
“Let’s go do something different! Maybe you'll find your revelation or whatever.”
He really wanted to scoff. “How does that even work?”
“Don’t know. But it's worth a try. Do you want to figure out who your soulmate is or not?”
Of course he did. “Of course I do. What kind of question... ”
Y/n clapped her hands together. “Good! Tomorrow I’ll pick you up. Get ready for a week full of surprises.”
“Wait what? I never signed up for this.”
Y/n rolled her eyes. “You did sign up. You said you want to find your soulmate.”
“But not tomorrow!” he raised his voice in frustration. “We have work on Monday.”
“Just call your boss that you’ll be gone for a week.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Dude, bro, my guy, you need to live in the moment. Plus, you haven’t taken a leave in years. Years, Namjoon.”
He inhaled long and hard before exhaling it slowly. His best friend seriously was going to be the death of him.
“Please.” Y/n looked up at him. He suddenly became aware of the massive height difference they had.
It wasn't that Y/n was short. She said it herself that she was the average height although he didn’t really believe that. She just looked so tiny compared to him. But, on the other side, Namjoon was quite tall for a guy around his age.
He groaned. “Ugh, not the puppy eyes. Seriously.”
“Does that mean I win?” There was a soft gleam of hope in her eyes.
Namjoon was a strong man. At least, that was what everyone who knew him had said about him. So it was weird for the always composed and well mannered man to have a weakness. And to have that weakness took in the form of his childhood best friend was even weirder. What in his best friend that didn’t exist in literally anything that could melt his heart like no other? Puppies and kittens could never even compare. His cute bonsais, too, couldn’t even compare.
He might never find the answer to that. Heck maybe he found out about his soulmate before he could answer that. He could only shook his head in disbelief as Y/n put her bunny headband on his hair.
It was Saturday at 8 a.m, the morning after the fortune teller incident. Y/n simply invited herself into his apartment while he was still in the shower. It was one of the things he regretted after giving her the keys to his apartment. It was meant to be used during emergencies, not for her getting all cozy here and thinking this was her place.
He was walking out of the bedroom, fully dressed and ready for the day, when he heard a sizzling sound coming from the kitchen. He stepped closer to the kitchen and as it came into view, he saw Y/n cooking with her back facing him.
He thought he was being quiet, but apparently not because Y/n turned around and greeted him with a beaming smile.
"Morning! I'm making you some omelette and there's coffee on the table." She pointed at the mug on the table with smoke still puffing out of it. "Exactly two teaspoons as you like it." Then she continued cooking as if nothing had happened.
He was speechless as he looked at the mess in his kitchen. Egg shells on the floor, ketchup smeared all over the kitchen counter, and some puddles on the floor could be seen. It was as if a tornado just came.
“What is all this?” he asked when he finally found his voice.
Y/n carefully plated the omelette before proudly putting the plate beside the coffee. “This is what I call breakfast. Bet you usually only drink coffee in the morning.”
“No, that’s not what I mean. Look at the kitchen, Y/n! Who’s gonna clean up after this?”
Y/n took a look around the kitchen with a readable and all too familiar facial expression.
“I know what you’re gonna say,” Namjoon said as he took a seat. “And to that, I say, I don’t want to clean up your mess. You clean it up.”
She lifted her hands in surrender. “Fine, geez. A thank you would be nice.”
“You not making a mess would be appreciated.”
“Touché."
Usually when he had coffee in the morning, he felt that adrenaline rush. The kind that made you feel giddy, restless, and even made you tremble. This time, thanks to Y/n's cooking, he didn’t feel any of those. He was tempted to tell Y/n about this, but in the end, he just kept it to himself. He didn’t want to fuel her ego. It wasn’t a very good idea to do that so early into this “Journey to Find Namjoon’s Soulmate” or whatever Y/n had called it last night.
Even if he told him all those things, chances were she wasn’t going to listen to him as she was busy admiring her work on his hair. The bunny headband finally put on properly and held his hair away from his face.
“Have you ever put on a face mask before?” Y/n handed him a face mask.
“Umm, no.”
“Let me put it on you.” She smiled as she took back the face mask from his hand.
Within seconds, her trained hands successfully put the face mask on his face. And not long after, her face was also wearing one.
“We’re matching!” Y/n grinned at him. “Let’s take a selfie,” she said as she pulled out her phone.
He wasn’t big on selfies, he didn’t even remember the last time he took one. But seeing the huge smile on his best friend’s face was enough for him to reluctantly agree.
He forced a smile at the camera. He realized it looked awkward as Y/n shoved their photo in front of his face to show him the result. It looked even more ridiculous with the bunny headband on top of his head. However, the girl looked like she didn’t mind as she kept babbling on about how this was their first selfie in years and she wanted to upload it so bad.
“-will ask me about you. And what’s going to happen to me when you date one of them?”
A silence followed her ramblings until he realized she just asked him a question.
He cleared his throat. “First of all, just because I’m dating, doesn’t mean you can’t still be my best friend. Second of all, isn’t the purpose of this… adventure is to find my soulmate?”
Y/n eyes widened in realization. “You’re right! I’m gonna post it then.” As she was about to hit the post button on her phone, she looked at him. “Wait. What should I caption it?”
20 minutes later, when the once cold mask was no longer cold and it started to dry a bit, Y/n carefully peeled the mask from both their faces.
“What do you feel?” Y/n asked expectantly.
Namjoon didn’t even know how to answer that. Truth to be told, these skin care products never really made an impactful difference on his skin, hence the reason he didn’t have a skin care routine. The most he ever did was just wash his face with a face wash and even that was a leftover he found in his sister’s old room a few weeks after she left for uni. A side note, don’t even ask him why he was in her room, he wouldn’t answer it truthfully. His parents would probably say that he missed her, but he knew it wasn’t true… right?
The lack of response from him was enough for Y/n to catch on what he was feeling.
“You don’t feel anything, huh?”
“Wetness on my face.” His answer sounded more like a question.
“You’re unbelievable. Well, since today is just the first day, I’ll let it go. But, the correct answer to that is refreshed, Joon,” Y/n explained in exasperation as she scratched her head.
“What does that have to do with finding my soulmate?”
“You might find out your soulmate faster if you’re not stressed,” Y/n said as a matter-of-factly.
He sighed. “You know what, I don’t even bother to argue with you.”
“Cause you know I’m right.”
That night when he was about to fall asleep, when he was only half-aware of his surroundings, the memory of today’s activity played in his mind. The messy kitchen as his best friend attempted to make him breakfast. Her proud smile as she served his food. The focused look on her face when he was putting on her headband and the face mask on him. And lastly, the tired smile she offered him as she said goodbye when the day ended after they binge watched on Netflix. For the first time in years, he fell asleep with a smile plastered on his face.
The next morning on Sunday, he woke up much earlier than usual. He even woke up feeling energized. He could even feel anticipation bubbling inside of him. The last time he felt like this was when he was around 9 and his parents gave him tickets to Disneyland as a birthday gift. Simply put, he felt like a kid again, waiting for great things that were about to happen today.
As he smiled at the memories of his childhood, he couldn’t help but realize that maybe Y/n was right all along. She always nagged on him because all he did was to mope around on his old couch and get drunk when things got too hard.
“Live in the moment, dude,” she had said multiple times. “You worry too much like an old man who fears the end of the world.”
What a great metaphor, Y/n.
Just like the day before, Y/n entered his apartment without notice. But this time, instead of being in the shower, he was already dressed and waiting for her. He could feel his heart beat get faster when he heard the door being opened.
Y/n widened her eyes in surprise before she smirked. “I like the energy. Let’s just go, then!”
For the second activity in The Journey to Find Namjoon’s Soulmate, Y/n took him to an…
“Animal shelter?” Namjoon asked in disbelief.
Y/n nodded. “I want to see cute animals.”
“We can just go to the zoo.”
“It’s expensive. And they don't really care about animals."
Ever since the start of their friendship, he could never win against her wittiness. So this wasn’t really a rare occurrence where she said an argument so wrong yet so right.
“But a zoo is intended for exactly that purpose. Rather than you playing with those sheltered animals but not adopting one of them in the end,” Namjoon explained.
“Oh, shush. Stop being a party-” Y/n’s eyes suddenly caught a puppy running towards her. “Oh my God, come here, baby!” she yelled as she scooped the puppy up in her arms.
For a few minutes, it was just Y/n cooing at the puppy and he was just eyeing her in amusement. He knew that she would go mushy and all excited around animals, so he couldn’t really blame her for seemingly forgetting about him. Plus, he didn’t want to miss out on seeing Y/n using baby voices to talk to the animals.
His amusement was interrupted when Y/n abruptly shoved the puppy towards him.
“Wha-? I don’t-”
“Just take it. We’re here for you, not me.”
Namjoon sighed in defeat as he accepted the puppy into his arms. Its tail wagging so fast, going for miles per second, to the point he could feel its body shaking from the impact. Its big eyes looking up at Namjoon in… adoration? Maybe going to the shelter might be one of his favorite activities from now on.
They only went home after an entire day spent at the shelter. Namjoon was tired, he almost couldn’t keep his eyes open, but Y/n was probably more tired than him cause she kept running around to chase every puppy and kitten she saw.
He tried to stop her, knowing she would get tired, but she said, “Each one of them deserve love, okay,” before running around yet again.
Now as they sat in the bus on their way home, he saw out of the corner of his eyes Y/n’s head bobbing down every once in a while, following the motion of the bus. He snorted while he tried to hold his laugh. What he had thought would happen, really happened.
Feeling bad because he knew that would feel uncomfortable, he lightly directed Y/n’s head to rest on his shoulder. Instinctively, Y/n snuggled further into his shoulder to make herself more comfortable and when she was finally satisfied, she sighed.
This awfully looked like he was going to have a guest tonight.
The third day was on a Monday. He knew he was weird, Y/n had told him repeatedly, but he really liked Mondays. For him, it was finally the day in which he could do something about his problems at work that he just left off on Friday.
“I swear, you’re literally the personification of weird,” Y/n had commented one day.
To be honest, he didn’t really care if he was really what she had said. Can’t someone like something without being judged?
Right after they both woke up and had breakfast, Y/n went back to her apartment to get ready for the day.
Before leaving, she instructed him to find light clothes as they were going to spend time outdoors for the day. Exactly like what she said, he chose to wear an old t-shirt he had owned since he was in college and khaki shorts he found at the pit of his wardrobe.
“I hope they have mint choco flavor!” Y/n jumped up and down in excitement as they got closer to the ice cream parlor.
“Ew, why do you even like to eat cold toothpaste?” Namjoon asked rhetorically.
Y/n gasped. “What is this mint choco slander? You, mister, have never tasted life until you eat mint choco ice cream.”
“No, thanks. I bet I’d taste death eating those.”
Flabbergasted, Y/n stopped in her tracks and glared at him. “You-”
He quickly cut her off, “Let’s not continue the argument before there’s a bloodbath.”
Y/n chuckled proudly. “Because you know it’d be your blood that’ll be spilled.”
“Um, no,” he interjected. “I think you mistake your blood with mine.”
“Really? You wanna fight?” Y/n took a fighting stance in front of him in which Namjoon just grabbed her elbow and pulled her to walk again.
"Stop that! The kids will think you're one of them," he mumbled.
They were at a busy park surrounding a lake. Kids were running all around the place. Some parents tried to chase them but some went as far as scolding them. A small portion of parents even just let their kids disappear into the crowd of people. He doubted those parents even care about their kids.
He never knew such a place like this existed. During the three days he spent on this journey, he had learned and knew more things than all of his life experiences combined. Maybe he’d have to thank Y/n after they reached the end of this journey.
“I start to think this journey is just your excuse to have a holiday.”
“No way. This is totally 100% for you. Speaking of that, do you already have an idea who your soulmate might be?”
Namjoon shook his head as he opened the door to the ice parlor and gestured to her to enter first. “Just get your damn ice cream.”
There was a long line of people waiting to order, but soon enough, it was their turn.
Even before the cashier could greet them, Y/n already blurted out a question. “Do you have mint choco flavour?”
“We’re unfortunately ran out of it. Maybe you want to try mocha instead?”
Y/n pouted in disappointment as she was trying to find the next best flavor in the menu.
Though mint choco ice cream was his mortal enemy, he couldn’t help but to feel a pang of sadness upon seeing his best friend’s reaction. There was nothing worse than having your first choice unavailable.
“You know what? I changed my mind, bubblegum is now my favorite,” Y/n commented as they walked out of the parlor. A cup of bubblegum flavored ice cream in Y/n’s hand and the vanilla one in Namjoon’s. “Goodbye, mint choco.”
“See? You’re finally agreeing with me.”
“Yeah, but for different reasons. I still think it tastes good, but bubblegum is better. It’s a good thing they ran out of mint choco.”
“Your taste in ice cream is weird.”
“Why would they make these flavors then if not for me to enjoy?” she argued as she put more ice cream into her mouth. She closed her eyes and hummed in content. “I haven’t had ice cream in weeks. I miss how cold it feels.”
“I think you’re exaggerating.” There was no way, in his opinion, not even in alternate universes where she could stand not eating ice cream for weeks. She had a sweet tooth and couldn’t stand not eating ice cream in weeks, at least that was what he knew since the start of their friendship.
“Nope. These past few weeks, my boss has been giving me double the amount of work. I have to work overtime and by the time I’m off work, all ice cream places have closed. So I’m gonna savour all of this as much as I can. God knows when I can get ice cream again.”
Shortly after she said that, a kid, approximately around 9 years old, bumped into Namjoon and accidentally made him drop his ice cream. The kid, unaware of what just happened, just mindlessly bowing and saying sorry before running again to chase his friends.
“Oh no!” Y/n squatted down near the sorry sight of his ice cream.
Before he even registered what was happening, she handed him her ice cream. “Hold it for me.”
Instinctively, he held her ice cream. “Y/n, there’s no need for that. We can find the cleaning service and ask them to clean it.”
He didn’t know whether she was purposely ignoring him or she was so focused to the point she didn’t hear him. All he knew was the fact that she kept on cleaning up as best as she could. And that there was nothing he could do to stop her.
A few minutes later, Y/n jumped up from her squatting position. “All done!” She tossed the now dirty tissue in a trash can nearby.
She thanked Namjoon and took her ice cream back from him. But instead of eating it herself, she scooped some with the spoon and directed it in front of his face.
He must have looked bewildered because Y/n smiled and spoke, “We must share since you lost yours.”
He could swear when she said that, he felt warmth all around his body, originating from his chest. She just said she missed ice cream, yet when he lost his, she didn’t hesitate to share it.
“No, but thanks.”
Y/n frowned and softly touched the tip of the spoon to his lips. Reluctantly, he let her spoon-feed him.
“You said you want to savour it?” he asked after he swallowed.
Her answer, however, was something he never expected coming out from her mouth.
“What’s sweeter than eating ice cream is sharing it with your best friend.”
He swore he almost broke into tears at her words.
He knew how much she loved sweet foods. She even frequently ran to him crying when her brother ate all of her chocolate when they were kids. She broke many friendships because they didn’t want to accept her overpriced candies as presents. Heck, even a moment ago they were arguing about ice cream flavors!
This was a new side of Y/n that he just saw. A side she never showed him before, her best friend slash her only friend. He felt like he was learning more about Y/n than he was about his future soulmate.
So that was how their third day ended. Namjoon and her sitting on a bench facing the lake as they take turns to take a bite of her ice cream.
On Tuesday, the fourth day, Y/n had the genius idea of going on a road trip. It was a huge problem, because one: he couldn’t drive, and two: he wasn’t about to let Y/n drive for hours on end.
“This doesn’t sound like a very good idea,” Namjoon said for the millionth time that morning as Y/n stuffed their luggages into the tiny trunk in her tiny car. “Plus, I don’t think your car can withstand long hours on the road.”
"Shush." She forcefully closed the trunk. "You can't drive, therefore you don't deserve to have an opinion."
The car in question was a 2010 car that originally was owned by Y/n’s dad and given to her when she got a driver’s license. Please note that Y/n had told him long ago that she actually didn’t drive that much and probably wouldn’t need a car since she enjoyed taking the bus to work. Nevertheless, she refused to sell the car when she was in need of money after moving out of her parents’ house. She had said, and Namjoon still remembered it clearly, that, “I want to keep this bad boy until he’s an antique, then I want to sell him to the highest bidder, so I can be rich."
‘Okay’, Namjon had thought, ‘but antique cars are usually just sitting in the garage, not being overworked like Y/n’s.’ However, he never said anything, so Y/n automatically had thought she won again against him.
Minutes later, they were already on the road, going nowhere in particular. Namjoon was still steadfast in his stance. This wasn’t going to end well.
But what if he could persuade her to turn the car around by another means? He wasn't going to pass up this opportunity, so he tried again.
"Won't you be tired? Sleepy?" asked him.
"I'm not weak, Namjoon. Contrary to what you see me as, I'm as strong as you are, if not stronger."
"I lift three times a week." His words sounded more like a question.
"I walk up the stairs to the fifth floor multiple times a day."
Okay, this wasn't where the conversation was supposed to flow, but he wasn't going to back down.
"It's not my fault your apartment is crappy," he clapped back. “They can’t even fix their damn lift.”
"They will get it fixed soon, don't worry."
"That's what they said months ago!"
"Then what do you want me to do?" she challenged him.
"Find a new apartment!"
"They're all expensive. Plus, I’ve lived there since college, I’m kinda attached to it."
"You're a hopeless cause," he mumbled quietly, she probably didn't hear him.
After a few seconds of silence, Namjoon tried again, this time using another different approach.
"What if something terrible happens?"
"No, it won't. Relax. Chill. You're worrying too much. Why don't you just take a nap?"
"You're too chill, Y/n. We go out to nowhere without booking-"
"It's okay, really."
“How?” he asked, exasperated of how calm she was when they were about to go somewhere empty handed and with no planning whatsoever.
“How? Umm, I was on a road trip once.”
He wasn’t convinced. “When? You never tell me anything about it.”
“I don’t need to tell you everything I do! It was when I was 12. My dad and uncle took me along with them to go around the country.”
“12 years old, Y/n! You were 12. Now you’re in your 20s.” Namjoon wasn’t amused at all at this point. “Turn the car around now!”
“What? No!” Y/n exclaimed. “This is an important part of the journey. Being at a place you’re familiar with won’t help you dig deeper into yourself. You’d just be too preoccupied with your problems.” Then Y/n finished her speech off with a quiet mumble, “You’ll never find anything new by being in your comfort zone.”
Namjoon hated once again at how right her words were. He really wanted to argue with her, but she was right. Being on his couch all day, doing the same things everyday, wouldn’t change anything in his life.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down. “Fine, okay, you win. Happy?”
Out of the corner of his eyes, Y/n grinned. “Very.”
That night they arrived at a small motel that probably only had like 10 rooms at most. It had a homey feeling, but the stench coming from the lobby, though. It was unbearable for him.
As they dragged their suitcases while they were trying to find their room amidst the numberless doors, Namjoon asked Y/n, “Why are we in this crappy motel again?”
To answer that, Y/n shrugged. “Don’t know. I just saw the signs and went straight in.”
“Didn’t you smell something at the receptionist?”
They finally arrived in front of their room. They didn’t actually know it was their room, but based on the instructions that the creepy receptionist just gave them, there was a high chance this was it.
Y/n answered as she opened the door. “Yeah. The receptionist actually whispered to me that they just finished eradicating rats. He said there was an infestation in the lobby.”
He couldn’t help but to grimace while following her into the room. She had been told about all of that and she still decided to rent a room. He would never understand her way of thinking even after years of friendship.
As if she could read his mind, she spoke, “Don’t worry. All the rats were successfully killed and all of them were in the lobby. We’re safe.”
“How do you know?”
“I asked him. I’m not stupid, Joon.”
He raised his hands in surrender. “Geez, chill. I just asked you a question.”
And that was how their fourth day concluded.
For the first time since the start of the journey, Namjoon finally initiated an activity on the fifth day.
He managed to browse on his phone for things they could do, eat breakfast with whatever food they had, and even pack lunch for the both of them before Y/n even woke up.
When she woke up, he hesitantly asked her to go hiking. Throughout the journey this far, he only followed wherever she wanted to go, so he didn’t really expect the reaction that he got from her after proposing his idea.
She widened her eyes as she digested his words and her breakfast. “Hiking? Where?”
“Behind this motel, there’s a small hill. What do you think?”
Y/n nodded a little too enthusiastically. “Let’s go. Spending a day with nature doesn’t hurt.”
Oh, how wrong she was.
The idea was for them to hike together, maybe even side by side, as they enjoyed the view. But instead, Namjoon left her a solid 50 meters.
Perhaps it was because he was taller, therefore he had longer legs and strides, or because he was excited, so he walked faster, or even both. No one really knew for sure, not even him.
“Joon!” she called once again in the span of less than 5 minutes. “Don’t walk too fast!”
Namjoon sighed as he stopped in his tracks, waiting for her to catch up with him. She was lucky she was his only best friend or he would’ve strangled her by now because of her naggings.
Quite a surprise to himself, when she finally caught up with him, he squatted down and ordered her to ride on his back. He wasn’t sure what had possessed him, but he just went with it. Maybe his unconscious thought that she would quit complaining if she was on his back. There was only one way to find out.
“Why? I can walk on my own.” She wiped the sweat on her forehead with a tissue.
He scoffed. “You look like you’re about to pass out any second. Just shut up and let me carry you.”
He didn’t know what he had expected from giving someone a piggyback ride and that someone to be Y/n, but he was sure a strangling grip around his neck wasn’t part of the deal.
“Can you-” Gasp. “-not strangle me?”
Y/n immediately let go of him. The warmth of her embrace suddenly disappeared. “Oops. Sorry.”
Once they arrived at the top, Y/n jumped off his back. “Woah, this is so cool.” She pointed at the motel that now looked small. “That’s our motel!” she exclaimed.
They found a large flat rock that they both could sit on and ate lunch together.
As she munched on her food, she asked, “Have you figured out who your soulmate is?”
“Not yet. I start to think this doesn’t work.”
“Good things take time, my dude.”
Oh, how he really wished it was true.
“Hey,” Y/n’s voice interrupted his thoughts. “Do you know that I always wanted to tick off ‘hiking’ from my wishlist?”
“The wishlist you had since you’re 10?”
She nodded. “After more than a decade, I finally finished everything on my wishlist.” She suddenly broke into a fit of giggles. “I’m gonna make a new one once we’re home.”
“What’s going to be in it?” he asked curiously.
Y/n took a moment to think before answering, “Maybe… to find my soulmate.” It came out more like a question rather than an answer.
She abruptly chuckled. “Wouldn’t it be crazy if in the end we figure out our soulmates in this journey?”
A lightning fast thought struck him but disappeared just as fast as it came. Throughout the rest of the day, he was trying to recall that thought to no avail.
The next day, on Thursday, they were going home. They couldn’t handle another hour, no scratch that, they couldn’t even handle another minute at the motel. Opposite to what Y/n had initially thought, the stench of rat carcass reached far beyond the lobby to their room.
A series of “see I told you so”s later, Namjoon finally broke her.
“Yes, Namjoon. Thanks for telling me that. I know you’re right and I’m wrong. Now please put on a song, I want to sing.”
Another thing Y/n was bad at, according to him, was singing. He knew she liked to sing, she’d told him about it, but he never understood how she managed to be so confident yet so bad at it. If he were told to rank between her ability to sing and choose a good motel, he’d probably have put singing as the first place based on how bad she was at it. Call him a bad friend, but he was just being honest.
However, he still played a song just to satisfy her. An easy song that no one can screw up, but he knew she would still screw up anyways. After all, enduring her cracked singing voice was the least he could do after being driven from and to a crappy motel.
And then she sang. And sang. And sang. One song turned to three turned to five then ten and fifteen. Before she went for the sixteenth song, Namjoon stopped her.
“Aren’t you thirsty from singing?” Nice catch! The question was just an attempt to make her stop a while so he could regain his hearing.
“Don’t even have to ask.”
As she gulped down water from her flask, Namjoon eyed her warily. He prayed, and he was an atheist, that she would forget about singing.
He didn’t know which God had answered his prayers, but when Y/n put down her flask, she already babbled about something else other than singing. Looked like the world, and God, were on his side today.
She was talking about the random bird that was flying straight to her car, almost hitting the car. Also about a dog that stuck out its head from the car beside them. And about how expensive the motel was for being smelly and dirty.
Lastly, “Do you think I cut out to be a singer?”
Yeah, maybe he was pushing his luck.
Day seven fell on a Friday. They spent the day walking hand in hand leisurely on the beach. Beside him, Y/n was talking about what color she should dye her hair next.
“I think I should go with green. What do you think?” Y/n nudged his side with her elbow and wiggled her eyebrows.
“Your boss won't let you dye your hair crazy colors,” he said. “Please don’t do anything that can get you fired.”
Y/n pouted at his answer. But soon her frown vanished as her eyes fell upon a bikini in a display of a store.
Namjoon exhaled. He knew exactly what was going to happen.
True enough, Y/n pulled on his hand that was still clasped in hers towards the store and only stopped after they were in front of the display.
“What a cute bikini!” she cooed before running inside the store, leaving a bewildered Namjoon outside.
Right when he entered the store, he heard a squeal that could only belong to one person.
He turned to the source of the sound and saw Y/n laughing with a store clerk. A male and handsome store clerk.
He wasn't the type of person who gets jealous easily or possessive, but he never saw Y/n with a man other than himself. So he couldn't really help it when he felt jealousy seeped through his gritted teeth. But he soon had forgotten about it when Y/n looked up at him and grinned.
Y/n approached him while holding a bikini set.
“This is their latest design. I’m gonna try it. Wait for me!” Then she disappeared to the fitting room before he could remind her that she didn’t wear bikinis.
Throughout the time he had known her, not even once she ever said anything about bikinis, let alone wearing one and he had known her since they were in diapers. What made her suddenly want to have a bikini?
Minutes later, after a series of clanking noises and a few curses, Y/n came out of the fitting room and he couldn’t believe what he saw. Surely the fitting room was a magic box or something, because there was no way his childhood best friend, his innocent Y/n, came out looking like a model out of a magazine. Well, maybe more like a model before they got heavily photoshopped since he still could see some tiny spots, cellulite, and scars on her skin. And maybe a plus size model because her hips would be considered wide compared to those models. But he didn’t mind them, they made her look more… natural, more human.
While he was busy admiring her, a cough suddenly woke him from his daze. He turned to see the store clerk from earlier, now standing beside him.
“You look very beautiful,” he commented, not minding the killing glare coming from Namjoon.
Y/n, without heeding the store clerk’s compliment, asked, “Joon, do you think this is okay?”
Namjoon was tempted to say, “Just okay? You look like a greek goddess who just blessed me with her presence.” But he was too paralyzed to say anything.
“I think you look great,” the store clerk spoke up again. For a split second right after he said that, he looked at Y/n’s thighs before looking at her eyes again.
It happened so fast, Namjoon thought he was just imagining it. But when Y/n’s facial expression turned sour and she quickly went back to the fitting room, he was wondering whether she saw that too.
His suspicion was confirmed right after they left the store.
“I can’t believe it!” she said while stomping beside him. “He looked at my thighs, Joon! Did you see it, too?”
He just hummed.
Y/n huffed. “I’m going to file a complaint to their manager.”
“You won’t do that,” he replied knowingly.
“I’m gonna make it viral, then. Let the whole world see how horrible he is.”
Namjoon really wanted to laugh at how ridiculous that sounded. “How? You don’t have footage of him doing it.”
“Damn, you’re right,” she mumbled. “Maybe I’m just not meant to have a bikini.”
A lot of thoughts ran through his mind. He wanted to let her know how pretty she looked in that bikini. How captivating the curves in her body were. But in the end, he only suppressed all of that. In his justification, he wanted a more appropriate timing. He didn’t want to say all that to her when she was mad or she’d think he said that to make her feel better. He wanted not just to comfort her, but to actually make her realize how beautiful she was.
On Saturday, his second favorite day after Monday, Y/n arrived a bit later at his apartment compared the days before. But when she saw him ready for the day, she said, “I’m giving you a chance to wake up late, but whatever.”
As per usual, Y/n didn’t tell him where they were going, and he was surprised when they arrived in front of a large building with a sign that read “library”.
Looking at Namjoon’s puzzled face, Y/n probably could read what was in his mind. “You still have no idea who your soulmate is, right? I just think that maybe it’s because we’ve focused so much on doing physical activities instead of, like, feeding the mind.”
“Huh?”
“Maybe we can do a little bit of reading. Because, you know, reading is like eating but for the mind. Or whatever that quote is supposed to go,” she elaborated.
“I read in my free time.”
“Have you read anything during this entire journey?” she raised an eyebrow.
He rolled his eyes. “That’s because of your brilliant idea of having a journey. Had you let me sit down on my couch, I would’ve read the entire biography of the founding fathers by now.”
“Gosh, you’re so boring. No wonder you haven’t found your soulmate. And for the record, you learned a lot of things from this journey. Things that might help you find your soulmate. You know what, let’s just go.” With that, Y/n pulled on his hand and stepped into the library.
Namjoon was in the middle of reading a philosophy book when Y/n suddenly spoke to him.
“I can’t focus, Joon,” she whined. “I have too many things on my mind.”
Those words were the most terrifying words he had ever heard, especially if they came out of Y/n’s mouth. Every time he heard those words, he felt like he wasn’t being attentive enough towards his friends to the point he didn’t know that something was disturbing their peace. And that feeling was heightened when Y/n was the one in trouble. He knew her for the longest time, shouldn’t he be more caring towards her?
He breath hitched, anticipating what Y/n had to say. “Why?”
She took a deep inhale before exhaling slowly. “I know this stupid because it hasn’t ended yet, but I already miss this journey.”
Obviously he didn’t want to admit it in front of her, she would get a crazy idea otherwise, but he, too, could feel a pang in his chest that felt awfully familiar. It was the same feeling he got when he moved out of his parents’ house and when he was reminiscing the time he spent with his late dog. Also when he graduated from high school and had to leave his high school friends to pursue higher education. He wasn’t a stranger to this feeling. In fact, he knew it too well.
Y/n was right, though. It was indeed stupid to feel this way because they still had one more day together.
So he responded with, “We’re still in this journey. And even after this journey ends, we can still go on adventures together,” as a weak attempt to console her and also himself.
“It’s not the adventures that I miss. It’s the time we spend together. We’ve never spent this much time together.”
Of course he knew that. He knew he was going to miss the time they spent together, but his own pride made him unable to act vulnerable in front of her. Especially in the time when she needed him the most.
They sat in silence for a few minutes, each deep within their own thoughts. That was when a crazy idea suddenly came to him. He usually wasn’t the one coming with crazy ideas, it was kinda Y/n’s thing and she probably would have copyrighted it if it was possible. But he wasn’t just going to be quiet at a time in crises like this.
“We can arrange some small one-day adventures every month. How does that sound?”
Y/n smiled although it didn’t reach her eyes. “Sounds great. Just promise me you won’t rain check on me.”
It worked! He successfully made her smile again. As he cheered inside his mind, he assured her, “I won’t. I’ll write it on my calendar.”
Namjoon dreaded the last day of The Journey to Find Namjoon’s Soulmate more than when he was called for a job interview by a big company. He even had clammy hands and was sweating bullets. His hand trembled as he waited for Y/n to announce what they were going to do on this last day.
“Holiday has to be concluded with a lazy day. So I call for breakfast in bed,” Y/n explained as she once again wrecked his kitchen.
“I’m not in my bed, though.”
“Your bed is not locked for the rest of the day once you’re out of it,” Y/n said in a matter-of-factly.
“But please don’t ruin my kitchen.”
Y/n briefly stopped cooking as she looked around the kitchen. Then she shrugged. “Well, it’s too late. You should’ve said that earlier.”
He originally had thought that Y/n would make food for him, give it to him, clean the kitchen, then left. But he was surprised when Y/n came back to his bedroom while holding a plate of her own after delivering his.
“Move,” she commanded before shimmying beside him on the bed. She grabbed the remote on the nightstand and turned on the TV.
“Now, we relax. Because we’ll be stressed out of our minds tomorrow.” She leaned back and started eating her bacon.
So that was pretty much how their ninth day went. But that wasn’t all.
Long after they had finished their food, they still watched the TV. Messy kitchen and other duties were long forgotten.
As time passed by, Namjoon found himself cuddling Y/n while she rested her head on his buff chest. And not long after, they both fell asleep in that position with the TV still playing in the background.
But all of that couldn’t last long as tomorrow they had to go to work. So after waking up from their nap, they cleaned the kitchen and Y/n went home before it got too dark.
Instantly after Y/n closed the door behind her, Namjoon felt empty. It wasn’t just his apartment that felt empty, but also his mind and soul. He was already used to her constant nagging, her constant company, and her voice. He wanted to run to her and tell her to extend their journey, but obviously, that was impossible. They had responsibilities, especially since they just neglected them for a week.
On Monday, the day that used to be his favorite but now he loathed it, he came home to a voice message from the person he’d been waiting for.
“Hey. Sorry I didn’t talk to you yesterday whether you’ve found your soulmate or not. I was anxious about work so I forgot. Umm… As soon as you receive this message, please call or text me, okay? I wanna hear what you thought.”
He couldn’t help but also notice something in her voice. Fatigue? Or was it sadness? He swore he could hear it and wasn’t just imagining it.
Wanting to check up on her, he automatically called her. First ring. Second ring. Third ring. He waited and waited, but it only went to her voicemail.
Not giving up so early to talk to his best friend, he rang her again. And waited. And waited. And kept waiting. But just like the first time, she didn’t pick up her phone.
In the end, he settled with sending her a text.
He didn’t know why he was suddenly nervous as he typed the message.
It said, “I still don’t have an idea who that might be. Maybe the journey didn’t work. But, hey, are you sad? Or maybe sick?”
He only got the reply the next day at lunch. He kinda hoped to read long messages about how he shouldn’t be so pessimistic and that he surely would find his soulmate, just like how Y/n usually talked. But instead, she just replied with, “What a bummer.”
He only sighed in disappointment.
The next few days were grim and hard for him. His boss gave him so much work despite having to catch up on his other work. Every time he rode the bus from and to work, he remembered Y/n’s slouched position beside him as they came home from the animal shelter. He could almost feel her head on his shoulder again.
Every time he played a song, he got reminded of the time when he had to endure Y/n’s off-key singing. A memory played in his mind every time he passed an ice cream parlor. Heck, he even missed the feeling of anticipation that he felt every time he woke up in the morning.
What was worst of all though was the fact that they didn’t talk at all after her last text. Not even the occasional text messages or sending each other memes just like what they used to do before the journey started.
He knew it was because they both had a lot of catch up to do after neglecting work for a week, but he really wished that they could spare a bit of time to talk together.
Oh, how silly he was when he dismissed her for missing their time together back at the library. What made him feel even more silly was him being a coward and not admitting back then that he was, too, going to miss spending time together.
One particular night, he had trouble sleeping worse than any other night he had been missing Y/n. He kept turning around, hoping to find a comfortable position to fall asleep in, but to no avail. In the end, he gave up and settled to reminiscing their time together.
As he delved into his memories, every single activity they did, every word she said, and every place they went to, his half-awake mind came upon a realization.
He missed her enthusiasm that could lift his bad mood instantly. He missed her pushiness that made him do things he didn’t want to do, only to show him that she knew what he would like. He also missed her short legs and her whines when he walked too fast. He missed her love for animals, her love for mint choco ice cream, her laugh, smile, kindness, and voice.
He missed her beauty, her body, and her sense of style. He even missed her unruly hair. He missed receiving her love and attention. He missed loving her and having her in his arms. He missed loving her. She was the soulmate he had been looking for. She was his soulmate. His. Soulmate.
At the crack of dawn, a few hours after Namjoon could finally fall asleep, he woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep. He had an important thing to tell Y/n. And he had to do it now before she went to work and he lost another chance to meet her.
He checked the clock, it read 5 a.m. He quickly got up from his bed, took a shower, and grabbed a protein bar before leaving.
In the bus on his way to her apartment, he kept tapping his foot impatiently as he chewed on his protein bar. At times like this, he really wished he could drive. But for now he had to settle with the bus.
He jumped out of the bus as soon as it stopped at the bus stop closest to her apartment.
He checked the time again, 5:43 a.m. He still had a few minutes before she woke up.
He arrived in front of her apartment after five minutes of walking. He knocked on the door rapidly to the point he was sure he accidentally woke up the neighbors. However, it was the last thing on his mind.
A minute later, a sleepy Y/n with a bed head opened the door.
“Namjoon, wha-”
He instantly pushed her in and closed the door behind them both.
“Hear me out,” he demanded.
Y/n nodded while yawning.
“Let me help you cross out one activity from your wishlist.”
“Why are we talking about that at this time?”
“Because it’s important."
“I don’t see it."
He started to lose his patience. “It is! There’s one activity that’s really important right? Like, more important than the others.”
She furrowed her eyebrows. “Which one? I haven’t written a lot in the list, actually.”
“What are they?"
“To eat a banana-”
For a second, Namjoon was speechless. “What? Banana? Why?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know. I just miss eating bananas.”
“Okay… What’s next?”
She took a moment to think, then answered, “Ah! I want to buy a new phone. Haven’t changed mine in years.”
He sighed. “Next?”
“Be a babysitter for a day.”
That wasn’t an answer he was looking for. “It’s a job for teenagers.”
“That’s why I only want to do it for a day.”
“Then?”
“Learn skateboarding. A skatepark just opened around here.”
“Anything else?”
She pouted. “You don’t want to help me cross any of those?”
“Not that. But, you said a few days ago on our journey that there was something you wanted to put on your wishlist.”
She tilted her head in confusion. “Really? I don’t remember. What was it?”
He really wanted to strangle someone at this point. Why was she so dense? “You really don’t remember?”
“I don’t think I do. Sorry. What was it, though?”
“You wanted to find your soulmate.”
It took her a second to digest his words, but when she finally did, her eyes widened. “Oh, right. Does that mean you want to help me find my soulmate? Go on another journey? You know, you don’t have to use that as an excuse to-”
“Shut up, Y/n. Stop talking so much.”
Y/n frowned. “Sorry.”
He huffed. “I never knew doing this was going to be this hard.” He looked deep into her eyes. “I don’t want to go on another journey to find anyone’s soulmate. And especially not after I realized last night that we have found our soulmates.”
Before he could say anything else, she cut him off. “Really? Who is yours? What about mine? Do I know-”
“Yes! We know them.” He finally decided to just cut the chase and came out clean. “You’re my soulmate, Y/n. And I’m yours. I was so busy chasing love during our journey to the point I never thought about the possibility of you being my soulmate.” With a softer tone, he concluded, “The fortune teller was right. I knew who my soulmate is and where to find them, but I was too stupid to realize that.”
Y/n was stunned for a while before slowly blinking. Once. Twice. “Wow. That’s crazy.” Then she grinned. “You finally admit that you’re stupid!”
“Y/n, that’s not the point!” he groaned.
“Yes, yes, I know.” She laughed. It sounded like bells in his ears. “I’m just messing with you. So, what should we do now?”
“Y/n.” He turned serious if he wasn’t being serious before. “Do you want to be my girlfriend?”
For a few seconds, Y/n stared at his eyes expectantly, as if she was waiting for something.
“Y/n?”
“What?”
“What do you say?”
“Of course yes, you dummy. I thought it was obvious.”
“Seriously now?” He rolled his eyes.
“Wait. Is this the part where we should kiss?” she asked in wonder.
He was really holding himself hard not to roll his eyes yet again. “Duh, Y/n.”
“But I haven’t brushed my teeth!” Then she disappeared into her bathroom, leaving a bewildered Namjoon in the living room.
As he stared at her bathroom door, he whispered to himself, “What did I just sign up for?”

the love club — miya atsumu
fourteen: to late night travels
masterlist | prev. | next
a/n: my ability to write has been 📉poopy📉 recently, but anyway stan the miya twins for clear skin ✨🧚♂️
fury melted across kita shinsuke’s face the moment his eyes peered at you and the twins. his arms were braided over each other’s as the rest of inarizaki’s volleyball team stood rod straight behind the captain as they watched you guys approach. a meek smile forced itself to appear upon your visage as if it were to light up the awkward mood. it wasn’t like you couldn’t help it anyway, as you were just a mere stranger to these guys.
you tried your best to ease your nerves as the twins brushed past you and greeted their coach and team captain brightly. it certainly left a weird taste in your mouth with the way they acted as if you weren’t the primary reason of being late. god, you already felt like a burden asking them to let you go to nationals when you weren’t even in the club, but being late on top of that made you just want to crawl under your bed sheets for the next century.
despite trying your best to hide your weariness, atsumu could practically see right through you. he was the only one who could tell out of everyone else there as he watched you purse your lips into a tight line. he first noticed these nervous habits of yours the day of the project presentation. with the way your perspiring hands were dried against your skirt or how you would teeter your weight back and forth from your left to your right heel. they were all such small and discrete things that most wouldn’t even notice, but with how much atsumu liked to look at you he seemed to be to only one to even care how uncomfortable you were right now.
atsumu cleared his throat as his large palms gently rested on your shoulders.
“what are you—?”
“hey guys, this is (y/l/n) (y/n). she’ll be helping adachi-san with managerial work, please be nice to her.” the blond setter announced and was immediately greeted by loud (at least for 2 in the morning) greetings from the rest of the team.
the words to say hi back had hitched in your throat. instead, you opted to give them another smile and a bow before fishing into your eye-raisingly large duffel bag. they were completely filled with dozens of bags of macarons, all of which were colored coded by which team they were supposed to be given to.
“it’s nice to meet you, (y/l/n). i hope the twins didn’t cause you any trouble,” kita walked up to you and held his hand out. however, instead of shaking it you placed the bag of treats upon his palm as he his eyes furrowed in confusion.
“i made the entire team macarons,” you explained. “it’s basically a thank you for letting me come.”
“they smack!” atsumu shouted from behind kita.
the captain scoffs, shaking his head as he turned over his shoulder. “i know, i’m the one who told you about the bakery in the first place.” he looked back at you, “thank you.”
as kita made his way towards the front of the bus, osamu’s tall figure immediately came into view as he held his hands out eagerly. “so... about those macarons?”
a light chuckle emitted from your lips as you reached into your bag again. the moment you placed the macarons within his hands, he didn’t hesitate, not even for a second to open up the baggie of sweets.
“thanks,” his voice muffled after he just stuffed his mouth.
you then continued on down the line giving each team member and even the coach and the manager their own fair share. eventually, everyone was piling into the bus as quickly as possible.
they even let you go on and take a seat first so you wouldn’t be ran over by the team. you opted to sit near the front of the bus at a window seat despite preferring the back. however, with your lack of sleep and your eye lids threatening to close any minute, you figured the front is always quieter than the rowdy back portion of the bus.
the moment you settled yourself, the boys were making their way in all nice and civil until the twins make their way on (go figure).
“samu, move!” atsumu exclaimed as he pushed his brother of the narrow aisle just so he could plop himself down next to you.
a scoff left osamu as he brushed himself off, “chill, i was just joking when i said i was gonna sit next to her first.”
you stop yourself from letting a smirk to melt upon your expression as you shifted slightly in your seat. the thought of atsumu potentially interrupting your need for sleep didn’t even cross your mind as you watched the setter stick his tongue out towards his brother in retaliation.
before you could even notice, everyone was settled into their seats and the bus was already pulling out of inarizaki high’s parking lot. almost immediately did you feel your eyelids start to droop at each waking moment.
“hey,” atsumu called out next to you. your state of drousiness practically leaving your body the moment you heard his voice, “thanks for the macarons by the way.”
“no problem,” you say gently. the fatigue was evident in your voice as the usual kick in of your usual personality was practically nonexistent.
atsumu was well aware that you had been awake for far too long and he genuinely wanted you to get rest. yet that anchoring feeling of him looking forward to this moment to even sit next to you for a good six hours for a chance to vibe was getting in the way. he wanted you to be okay and healthy, yet he also wanted to get to know you better.
“who did you want to visit in tokyo, again?” he suddenly asked after a few beats of silence. it sounded a bit forced as he noticed the more he waited to talk to you, the more of a chance you were to have fallen asleep already.
your cheek rested against the palm of your hand as you looked over at him. the sky was still obsidian dark, drenching the insides of the bus to be just as dim if it weren’t for the occasional street lights they were passing by. and yet, even in the most unflattering lighting, atsumu still couldn’t help but notice the inkling of his heart beat suddenly getting irregular just by the sight of you.
“they’re competing at nationals as well and i’ve been trying to meet up with them for a while.” you answer truthfully.
atsumu lifted an eyebrow, “oh really? d’you think we’re going up against one of them?”
you shrug, placing a finger over your lips. “that’s a secret for you to find out the day of.” you teased playfully as you completely ignored the fact that you were bantering with someone you were supposed to hate.
maybe it was the lack of sleep. yeah... maybe that’s it.
“don’t tell me you’re a homewrecker now, (y/n).” atsumu shot back only for a smooth laugh to leave your lips.
it sounded like music to his ears knowing he was the reason you did that.
you lifted yourself off of your palm as you patted atsumu’s broad shoulder, “nah, i’m an inarizaki stan for life. i’m rooting for you guys.”
it was then you yawned for the first time the entire night.
atsumu found it strange how used you were to staying up late at nights. not to mention the only reason why you were even tired at two in the morning was that you had practically been awake for more than twenty-four hours already (only reason he had known was because you mentioned you were playing valorant with your friends until four in the morning the night before).
he concluded that no matter what, atsumu would always find himself in this type of tranquil silence with you, much to his surprise, and yet it was best if he doesn’t get used to it. atsumu wasn't sure how long this peace between you and him would last considering the moment you woke up—no longer fatigued and was finally thinking clearly—that you and him would be back to normal with you hating him and him annoying you.
atsumu didn’t want that to happen.
the thought was evident on the tip of his tongue. his words on the cusp of leaving his lips, a sudden weight on his shoulder interrupted his train of thought.
he turned his neck slightly, flickering his gaze towards the top of your head in which you had fallen into slumber. atsumu’s eyes were wide at the sudden contact, but he was sure as hell not complaining. he shifted a bit in his seat for you to rest your head a bit more comfortably as he couldn’t help but notice your faint aroma of peaches and freshly baked deserts.
“goodnight,” atsumu whispered, yet the feeling of saying it in real life definitely hit different rather than texting it to you.
fun facts! —
atsumu ended up knocking the fuck out thirty minutes after y/n fell asleep
kita is sitting in the same aisle as atsumu and y/n but on the other side cause he’s sitting alone
osamu and suna are sitting behind kita while aran is sitting right behind atsumu and y/n
y/n ended up waking up four hours later and spamming her gc, and since tanaka and her are the only ones travelling, they were the only ones awake at the time

@psychicbeeboops
Well, now I gotta make it.
[Image I.D.: Psychicbeeboops commenting “Doug Rattmann mindscape would be SO COOL.”]
To start out, I’d like to include some things of note: My personal interpretation of Doug is that he used to be best friends with Cave before things went into the “human experiment” territory, in which case he left and returned later because few places back then would hire a schizophrenic man. As well, he was sort of the team dad, until a lot of people died in tests and because of the core project/GLaDOS project. (My personal view is that he adopted Chell, and that’s who her parent is that brought her to Aperture, but I know that’s not canon.) These things might be included in the mindscape, so please be aware of that.
He doesn't invite anyone in as much as arguing with the cube about whether or not it's safe. It's a long chat, but finally he pushes the cube away and says "I trust you, even if Cube doesn't." It's a weird moment, but it's followed by an ask for help, and Raz doesn't turn down anyone who needs help.
So he hops into Doug's mind, finding it as a normal house at first, a lot like Boyd's. It's messy, and the Doug there is painting on the walls, but it's clear he's doing it to relax. The place is homey, not like the cold room he’s in in reality. There, he’s welcoming. He smiles as Raz approaches.
"Hey, kiddo. Do you need any help with anything?"
"I'm actually here to help you."
"Oh."
It turns out that this isn't the aspect of Doug he was talking to before-- instead, he's the part of him that has to do most with family. He's a soft-spoken dad type who's more likely to hide than ever say a rude word, and he wears dumb t-shirts and laughs at bad jokes. The type of dad we all know and love. He sits down to talk with Raz, and admits he’s been having a lot of issues with getting everything together mentally-- He’s been falling apart with all of what’s happened to him, and he’s got multiple aspects (more like the archetypes for Cassie) that are stuck in other places. This Doug, who I’ll call “The Artist”, offers to help how he can, but Raz tells him to stay safe and he’ll help the others to come there.
He leaves through the door to find it hanging over the abyss that is the way to Old Aperture, and he falls for a while before landing on a soft platform that doesn’t damage him. It’s fabric, and it’s soft. A stuffed animal, perhaps a stuffed rat. He slides down the side, finding himself in Old Aperture, where everything is tinted sepia and like walking through old photographs. The people around him don’t move like people, more like animated figures-- Exaggerations, or clear arcs. They’re mostly designed like the way he draws himself, or like Bendy from those commercials.
[Image I.D: Rattmann’s art from Portal 2, where he is represented as a sticklike figure with a floating orange circle for a head.]
They always seem to be watching and whispering, but they don’t attack. Kind of like the G-men from Boyd’s mind. The people around Raz don’t notice him, but there’s a noticeable passageway into the depths of the walls, where a figure awaits.
There, we find the second aspect of Doug, who I’ll call The Scientist. He’s analytical, anxious, and almost like Boyd or Fred in that he’s terrified of Raz, doesn’t know how to react to some new variable in his head. He warns Raz about the monster in the labs, but refuses to talk about what he means. He shoos Raz out. There, you can find both the audio logs Cave made and the radios The Scientist left behind. The sounds seem to be at war, and it gets darker the further you progress. Regrets, doubts, and enablers swarm as you continue. At the end of a hall, you can find it: The memory vault of Glados being created. How it broke his family apart, how everyone tried to ignore that Caroline was gone, but he never could. How everyone else just tries to move past, without him.
On the other path from the hall that leads to the vault, you can find the blueprints for GLaDOS. There’s a miniboss, called “Paranoid Thought”, along the lines of the first time you see a judge or panic attack. It’s easily defeated with punching, but psi-blasts and telekinesis will go right through it. I don’t know what it looks like, but Paranoid Thoughts continue to pop up throughout the level.
There, you finally see GLaDOS. And she moves to face you. She tries to attack, but cutscene time. Raz and Scientist escape into a vent, with Scientist leading him to the “New Aperture” segment of the level. This is where everything is falling apart, clearly destroyed. There, you find the last aspect. This one is called “The Survivor” and he clearly looks the most like the Doug Raz saw outside. He’s not friendly, and doesn’t want to help the other two at all until they help him to get past GLaDOS. This is a 2d section, along the lines of what happens in “Mr. Hopps Playhouse” if you catch my drift. It’s easy enough, as it’s not built for stealth. At the end, they come out in the parking lot of Aperture, and they’re allowed freedom to walk to the house at the edge of the lot, where the Artist is waiting, and it seems like it’s over.
It is not over.
This is when there’s a loud explosion, and the Survivor realizes he left his Cube behind. He runs off, and the other three have to follow him, to go find him and the Cube. The boss here is likely a mix between the Paranoid Thoughts (You need to punch it when it lets its guard down) and the way he views GLaDOS, with a lot of poisonous attacks and enablers. The three aspects of Doug try to help by creating other weapons for you, but they don’t really do much during this fight. Eventually she goes down, and you’re left with the Cube in the center of the arena, sitting on the back of a memory vault he’s been protecting.
The memory of how Aperture began, with him and Cave working together, until when he tried to leave to get Cave to stop human testing.
It didn’t work. But he’s willing to face his past now, and the three aspects thank Raz for helping them to get out from under her thumb. “Or should I say, wires?”
That’s all I’ve got for now-- But there’d definitely be portals leading to other places, and it’d be a messy tumble of different directions.

Siblings: Chapter Four
AO3
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Summary: The Bats reflect on how their thoughts about siblings have changed over the years. Some opinions stayed, others didn't.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tim didn’t know how to feel about being an only child.
He didn’t think about it all that often, there weren’t many kids he talked to at school who mentioned their siblings all that frequently. And, in some parts, he didn’t mind it so much.
The kids who did talk about siblings complained, whether their siblings were older or younger. There were those who said their sibling took up more of their parents attention, which was something Tim was already lacking in. Some said that they never had any time to themselves, something that Tim had an overabundance in, but still cherished. Others said that the accomplishments, and failures, of their siblings reflected onto them, making their parents expect more or less of them. Tim couldn’t afford that either. His parents already didn’t think much of him, he didn’t need it to be any less. And if they wanted more, he worried he wouldn’t be able to meet their expectations.
And yet…
Sometimes he liked the idea of someone else in that empty mansion. Someone to talk to when the rooms felt too large, when the loneliness was suffocating him. He liked the thought of sharing his recent theories, photos, and the like with someone. Wondered if he could go on for as long as he wanted without being interrupted.
Maybe they’d be someone who didn’t call him by a name that wasn’t his, then feign forgetting. Who didn’t treat his binders like they were assaulting their eyes. Who didn’t scrutinize his every movement for faking.
That’d be nice, he thinks.
But there were pros and cons, he reasons. And for all he knows, if he had a sibling, they could’ve been just like his parents. Or they could’ve been kinder. Not like he’d ever know.
He had more important things to worry about than hypotheticals and wishes.
“Before you scold me, know that I took a five hour nap earlier today and I’m only getting a snack.”
Steph and Duke blinked at him from the doorway to the kitchen, their expressions a sharp contrast between exasperated and concerned, respectively.
“Wow, five hours?” Steph snarked. “That’s a new record. Are you dying?”
“Not yet,” Tim said, opening the fridge. “Give it a few weeks and I’m sure you’ll see rumors of my tragic defeat at the hands of, I dunno, Flamingo.”
“There’s a supervillain named Flamingo?” Duke exclaimed, staring at Steph incredulously.
“Oh, yeah, it’s a whole thing.” She nodded. “He had a scuffle with Jay and his kid a while back.”
“Jason has a kid?”
“Why are you up, anyway?” Tim talked right over him. “Duke I understand, he’s the disgraced child of the sun. But you patrol at the same time as every other nocturnal person in this house.”
“Hey-”
“I actually had to pretend to have a normal sleep schedule, my mom was getting worried and I didn’t want her finding me sneaking in with my full Spoiler getup on.” Steph explained tiredly. “I’m still trying to recover.”
“Tragic,” Tim hummed, pulling out a container holding a ham sandwich.
“The only thing that's tragic is your outfit.” Steph snorted, looking him up and down.
Tim blinked, looking down at himself. His outfit consisted of a pair of knockoff Batman shorts, knee-high pastel dinosaur socks, and a long red robe that absolutely did not belong to him hanging loosely off him, exposing countless scars littering his body.
“I look awesome,” Tim said, popping the lid off the container.
“Damian’s gonna start asking what battles you got your scars from again,” Steph tutted, striding further into the kitchen with a confused Duke following her. “Know that I will not be on your side when Dick notices and gets worried.”
“I’m more worried about Dami seeing this one,” He said, brushing the robe back slightly to reveal a poorly stitched surgical scar on his upper abdomen. “Because then he’s going to ask what happened, and then I’m gonna have to tell him that's where my spleen used to be, and then he's going to be reminded that oh, yeah, his brother has a missing spleen, and then he’s going to be treating everything like its diseased-”
“Does...he keep forgetting you lost your spleen?” Duke blinked, concerned. “I feel like that’d be something you were kinda always aware of…”
“Eh, everyone's worried about a different scar whenever they see ‘em.” He shrugged, glancing down as he traced over one of the surgery scars along his chest. “Which is frankly a little rude. I earned this right to be shirt free.”
“Hell yeah you did,” Steph grinned before her eyes dropped to the sandwich Tim was attempting to eat. “Isn’t that Cullen’s?”
“He didn’t label it, therefore it’s mine.” Tim said simply.
“Harper’s gonna kill you,” Duke warned warily.
“Only if she catches me,” He said, taking a bite of the sandwich. “Why’re you guys here, anyway? Grabbing a snack?”
“Lookin’ for Babs,” Steph said, hands in her pockets. “Someone on Twitter started a war about which Batgirl was better, and Babs will probably get a kick out of being remembered as the ‘missing Batgirl.’”
“Oh she’ll be pissed about being remembered that way.” Tim agreed, shoving the rest of the sandwich in his mouth. “Babs will see it in five minutes or less, though. Swear she has a sixth sense for whenever someone mildly associated with the Bats is mentioned.” He mumbled.
“You wanna hijack the thread before she finds it?” He suggested.
“Hijack it?” Duke echoed.
“We’re gonna yell about random stuff that doesn’t contribute to the conversation until all hell breaks loose.” Steph explained, already pulling out her phone. “Tim?”
“How do you feel about discussing why the sun lightens hair, but darkens skin?” Tim suggested, leaving the container on the counter as he brushed by Steph.
“You just want to piss off someone from Metropolis.”
“It’s law as a Bat that I have to torment Superman whenever I possibly can.” Tim shrugged.
“Does that include me?” Duke blinked. “Because I personally think tormenting Superman is a bad idea.”
“Clark wouldn’t hurt a fly,”
“Yeah, but he’ll give me the face of disappointment and I don’t think I can live with that.” Duke protested.
“He can barely even manage--where are you going?” Steph looked up, only now realizing Tim was leaving the kitchen.
“I’m starting the mayhem on the big screens.” Tim grinned, looking back over his shoulder.
“Please don’t tell me he’s going to use Twitter on the bat computer,” Duke sighed.
“He’s totally going to use the bat computer,” Steph smiled, following after him. “C’mon! It’s initiation time.”
“Do you guys just call every weird thing you do initiation?” Duke called, hurrying behind them. “Because I’ve been told I’m part of an initiation five times in the last week.”
“You’re stuck in initiation until this becomes the norm,” Steph said cheerfully.
“Of course,” Duke muttered.
Tim’s robe billowed behind him like an amateur cape as he wandered towards the door leading towards the steps into the Batcave. He threw open the door, the sound of it slamming echoing and startling the bats on the ceiling.
“Jesus!”
Harper jumped from the swivel chair in front of the computer, wide-eyed as she blinked up at the trio at the top of the stairs.
“Hey, Harps,” Steph greeted, hopping onto the stairs railing and sliding down. “We’re here to cause problems on Twitter.”
“Oh, well, in that case, by all means.” Harper snarked, getting up and grandly gesturing to the countless screens. “Not like I was using it for actual work.”
“Were you using it?” Tim asked, pointedly glaring at Steph to keep his recent adventure to the kitchen quiet.
“...looking for tasers to modify count as work, right?” She said after a moment.
“Technically,” Tim nodded, ignoring Steph’s smug look that absolutely signified she was going to blackmail him later. “But you can just use Dick’s old escrima sticks. He goes through a pair every two or three weeks, but most still work pretty well, he’s just too lazy to fix them.”
“Sweet,” Harper grinned. She then paused, taking in Tim’s appearance as he slid into the seat she was previously occupying.
“Why do you look like you’re auditioning to be the pretty girl who dies in a low-budget slasher?”
“First of all, how dare you assume I wouldn’t be the first one to die for representation points,” Tim said, pointing an accusatory finger at her. “Second of all, it’s called having fashion, and also being allowed to do whatever I want.”
“You have terrible fashion sense,” Harper snorted, crossing her arms as Steph and Duke came up beside her. “But fair, I can respect that.”
“See?” Tim said, looking at Steph. “Some people can afford to not be rude.”
“Keep talking and I’ll lose more blackmail material,” Steph calmly threatened.
Harper glanced between the two, to which Tim quietly, and quickly, turned back to the screen and ignored the both of them. Harper raised a brow but didn’t comment. Tim made a mental note to sneak into one of Jason’s unused safe houses after this was over. Steph couldn’t keep quiet for the life of her.
“What are you starting, anyway?” Harper asked, crossing her arms and leaning on the back of Tim’s chair. “A sob story about the Opportunity rover?”
“Another day,” Tim promised, opening up Twitter on the countless screens. He opened another one on the other half of the computer, which Steph quickly stood at and got her own Twitter set up. “Right now, we’re questioning how the sun makes hair lighter, but skin darker. And we’re dragging Clark into it.”
“If anyone asks, I had no part in this.” Duke said, watching the two typing with a frown. “Initiation doesn't include learning how to taunt Superman, right?”
“Eh, we can settle for you becoming close with a Kryptonian,” Steph shrugged. “Dick and Bruce share Clark, Jay’s got Bizarro, Cass and I got Kara, Babs I think counts with her, too, Damian’s got Jon, and Tim has Kon.” She listed off. “Harper and Cullen took the ‘bully Superman’ route without befriending any of his family, which is a coward's way out, so you can take, I dunno, does Chris still exist in this timeline?”
“I can call in a favor from Bart to reset the timeline again so he exists.” Tim said with a casual shrug, pulling up the thread arguing about the Batgirls.
“I’m sorry, what--”
“Finding Kryptonians who aren’t already taken is hard!” Harper protested, talking over Duke. “And Clark likes you guys being friends with his family. The only issue he has is Damian getting testy and Tim making heart eyes at Kon every five minutes.”
“I do not!” Tim squawked, whirling around in the chair to glare at the traitors he dared call family. In his head. Family in his head.
“You do,” Steph and Harper chorused.
“I’ve met Kon for less than twenty minutes and even I know.” Harper added. “I’m sure Duke knew.”
“I...yeah…” Duke coughed into his fist and turned away. “But in my defense, the gossip around here is practically shouted down the halls twice a week.”
“You were subjected to Dick having another crisis about Jay dating Kory for two months, weren’t you?” Steph said, trying to hide a snicker.
“There were so many things I didn’t want to know,” Duke whispered, face horror-stricken.
“Eh, at least Jay hasn’t brought up Talia around Dami yet.” Tim shrugged. “At that point, it’s better to just vacate the premises.”
“Wait--”
“Point is, you either befriend the Kryptonian or you torment them. That’s the rules.” Tim talked over him again, scrolling down the thread and boredly looking over the arguments. “You ready, Steph?”
“As I’ll ever be,” She grinned, giving a thumbs up. “How long till Babs notices and takes this whole thing down?”
“Few more minutes, tops.” Tim shrugged, already typing. “You two wanna give any input?” He asked, glancing behind him to Harper and Duke.
“Ask if Kryptonian skin can be used as extreme sunscreen,” Harper suggested. “That’ll rile him up.”
“Now I’m just curious if it can,” Tim said, but obediently began making his comment.
“You could just...ask?” Duke tried, clearly not taking in any of what was happening.
“Nah, Kon’s half human, I don’t think it works the exact same.” Tim shook his head, not looking back. “Kara would destroy me if I tried, Bizarro has the same problem, Jon wouldn’t know, and Clark would start telling Bruce he’s worried I’m deranged again.”
“Aren’t you?” Duke raised a brow.
“Only if I feel like it,”
“And when he forgets to sleep for ninety-eight hours.” Steph spoke up.
Tim rolled his eyes, tuning out his siblings as they continued to talk. He posted his comment before sparing a peek back at them, currently throwing off ideas to their hijacking plan like it was an everyday occurrence. Well, to Steph and Harper at least. But, to Duke’s credit, he appeared to be getting more used to it on prodding from his...sisters? Hard to tell, Steph was her own classification of family member. They were some weird choices for family, at least.
Tim watched them for a moment before turning back to making another comment on the logistics of sunscreen, a smile on his face.
He couldn’t find it in him to complain. Too much, at least.

vengeance / chapter 6: a new perspective
chapter 5: befriending | chapter 7: helping
vengeance masterlist
You and Midoriya both walked through the doors, Midoriya following close behind as you swiped your keycard at the entrance and guided him to the center of the floor. Your heels clicked in rhythm against the cold, hard floor as you made your way to the front to see Mina sitting at the front desk.
She liked to take over for you during your lunch period since hers was earlier and she didn’t want you to come back stressed and worried about what to do. She would take the calls, write down notes for you, and direct people if they needed any basic assistance.
Her eyes looked up at the sound, widening as she saw the green-haired male that was trailing slowly behind you. Midoriya was more concerned with the atmosphere of the building, his eyes glancing in every direction as he took the place in.
His eyes stopped once he saw Mina stand up from the desk, in realization of her being one of the friends that was featured on your instagram account.
She was another Pro Hero. Somehow, it seemed like everyone else had achieved that dream except for him. But now, he’d have the chance to achieve something much greater, and much more meaningful than what they were doing.
“Hey Y/N,” Mina waved slightly before gesturing to Midoriya, “Who’s this?”
“A good friend of mine,” you answered, waving off her suspicions.
She raised her eyebrows in response to your answer but didn’t say anything as she reached her hand over the counter to shake Midoriya’s.
“Mina Ashido, or also known as the hero, Pinky!”
Midoriya returned the gesture before replying, “Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you.”
You interrupted their greeting as you stepped behind the desk and placed the messenger bag down, before turning to Mina.
“Is Katsuki still here? Or did he leave for patrol already?”
“Sorry, he left just a couple minutes ago,” she answered, staring at the paper bag and cup in your hand, guessing that was the reason for your question.
“I can put those up in his office for you if you’d like,” she said, gesturing towards them. “I have to go up and finish some paperwork now anyway before I leave.”
“Yes, please,” you nodded.
She smiled as she plucked them off the desk and nodded to Midoriya to say goodbye, before heading to the back of the building towards the elevator.
“Sorry about that,” you said, as you turned back to Midoriya. “Usually he’s still here,” you frowned.
He never left for patrol without saying goodbye to you. Maybe something urgent came up and he had to leave immediately.
“Don’t worry about it, he’s a pro hero so I understand,” Midoriya replied as he rubbed the back of his nape and looked around awkwardly.
“I don’t want you to wait here. Sometimes he comes back way later than normal, and if something happened that he had to leave in a rush he’ll definitely take a while.”
You stood up from the desk once more as you walked him out. Midoriya thanked you for the lunch before heading off into the direction of the bookstore, but not before glaring at the man from last night who passed him as he made his way back towards the building from lunch.
…
After you left his office, Bakugou stared down at the files you’d given him, having no motivation to open them and finish his paperwork. He mostly stared at the little sticky note on the top one, the little heart that was at the end of the note telling him who to call.
He shifted his chair so he could stare at the window, watching as the sun moved along with the clouds overhead.
Hearing Deku’s name for the first time in so long was starting to affect his mental capacity. He was scared. He remembered all the terrible things that happened between them before he left. And he regretted it. He regretted everything that he said and did.
But hearing about Deku again reminded him of that guilt, something that he’d pushed down a long time ago and left to sit on its own.
Would Deku even understand him if he explained his actions now? Would he forgive him, even?
More than anything, he didn’t want you to look at him any different if you found out what happened. Ideally, no one would tell you but he wasn’t so sure that was going to happen.
Watching the people pass by outside the window without awareness of his gaze seemed to ease him as the clock ticked by slowly. He finally turned away when he felt he’d thought over the situation enough. He was going to tell you when you both got back home and then hope for the best.
He swivelled the chair back to face the desk and stared at the note on the sticky note, reading:
Call from the Hero’s Commission, (###)###-####
Call back soon! ♥
He reached over his desk to grab the phone and typed in the numbers before pressing it up to his ear.
He turned back to stare at the world outside the window as the phone rang, the noise finally ending when he heard the other line pick up.
“Heroes Commision secretary Whitney speaking, how may I help you?”
“I got a call earlier, I was in a meeting,” he answered gruffly and bluntly.
“Ah yes, Mr. Dynamite? Give me a second and I’ll transfer you to the Director’s line.”
Bakugou rolled his eyes slightly at the thought of having to be on hold for longer. He hated the seemingly endless ringing.
So he was thankful when the other line opened up promptly, the Director clearing his throat noticeably before answering.
“Thank you for calling back so quickly. Usually we don’t get an answer back from your agency for a couple of days,” the director chuckled lightly.
Bakugou rolled his eyes in response to his comment. He despised the Director’s needless attempts to create mindless conversations when on business calls. He just wanted the news or information he wanted to tell him, and then he would hang up with no further notice. Which is probably why, he always put off calling them back for a couple of days.
Why he decided to actually call back promptly, was weird.
The director gave another small laugh as he imagined Bakugou’s reaction to his statement, deciding not to agitate him further.
“Listen, I’ll cut to the chase. I understand that back in UA, your class in particular had many run-ins with the group known as the League of Villains.”
“Yeah, we did,” Bakugou responded with his eyebrow raised. He was concerned as to where the direction of the conversation could be heading.
“And as you know, after the last large fight that occurred between the heroes, including your class, and said group ended in them being put away to top-security prisons and psych wards.”
The Director paused afterwards, the silence becoming louder by the second. Bakugou had a feeling about what he was going to say next. He didn’t want to admit it to himself though. His mind glanced back to you, thinking about how you were probably walking around the city without a care in the world. He wanted it to remain that way.
“Well, some of the staff at those institutions have expressed that there have been more and more behavioural incidents lately. They’ve been seeing more and more suspicious behavior coming either from the way they act with staff or the way they communicate with other prisoners. They are coming to fear that something big will occur soon. Of course, law enforcement has been notified and detectives are looking into the old case files and other pieces of evidence left behind to look for clues. So far, they think that there might be someone still out there that used to work with them. They have no direct evidence pointing to that fact, but from what I can see that’s what it looks like.”
“So why’re you dragging me into this mess, huh?”, Bakugou interrupted quickly. “Of course there are some people left behind. The underworld is huge, and is twisted in ways we don’t even fucking understand. Who knows how many goddamn people could’ve been working under or with them on the side?”
“As perceptive as always, huh Dynamite?”
Katsuki was about ready to jump over to the office and blow the old man up. He was tired of his overdramatic, round-about way of speaking. He wanted to be done with the call so he could finish his paperwork and eat the lunch you brought him before going out for patrol. He didn’t want to deal with the nonsensical drama the Director always tried to bring in his news.
“Don’t kill me, I swear I’ll tell you,” the Director reassured when he swore he heard Bakuogu’s seething breaths from the other line. “Why I’ve chosen you, Katsuki Bakugou? Because you’re capable. You’ve been in enough missions that you know rushing in at this stage in time is useless, but also know how to quickly take action when necessary. I trust that you won’t screw this up. Not to mention, you are the number four hero. And that the heads of police have been riding up my ass to get some heroes assigned on the case. A big name hero such as yourself will get them to shut up for a while. And then, when nothing pans out, you’ll get credit without having to do much.”
“...So, you’re basically telling me that you think the entire point of the case is useless. And that you want me to go help them, so they shut up.”
“Exactly,” the Director nodded intently. “Besides, since you’ve worked with these specific villains before, I’m sure that you’ll be able to tell them that nothing’s going to happen. We don’t want the public having an outcry, do we? It would wreak utter devastation otherwise.”
Bakugou shifted the air out of his nose harshly, choosing not to respond to his last comment. He bit his tongue before opening his mouth, yet feeling no words forming in his throat. What was he supposed to respond to him with?
So instead, he opted to just hang up the phone. The Director wouldn’t care, he was used to it.
He stared back at the desk in front of him, but not really looking at it as he began overthinking the Director’s words in his mind. He glanced down to the sticky note that you’d left him, specifically at the little heart at the end of the note.
While he hadn’t expressed his genuine fear to the Director, he was worried about where the investigation was going to pan out. He didn’t want anything dangerous to be found, obviously, but finding something and reporting it was better than sweeping it under the rug.
And since he now had no choice but to join, you bet he wasn’t going to half-ass it like the Director thought he was going to. He always put all of his effort into everything he did for his hero work, and this was no different.
And the little heart at the end of the note urged him further. He wanted to deal with the issue so you could be safe. That was his main job. No one else mattered if he couldn’t protect you first.
His consciousness began to slip out of his mind and back into the present moment, looking at the many files of paperwork littered across his desk. His hand reached out slightly as if it was an attempt to reach them, yet he recoiled it quickly, getting a sense of anxiety just looking at the pile.
He turned back behind him to look out the window, and stared once again at the blue sky and the lazy clouds that floated slowly across it. He needed to be there, where he could think about it.
Not to mention, he now had to tell you about his whole story with Deku and prepare himself for your reaction to his adolescence.
He barely even thought twice about it as he walked swiftly out the door and into the sunlight, mostly forgetting about the lunch you were bringing him.

Male (kraken) reader x Leah Clearwater
requested by @rexburn12
It was a stormy, black, and dreary night in Forks. No one was driving around town and there wasn’t a soul in sight. Forks wasn’t a place where storms weren’t common, they happened often, but there was something peculiar about this exact one that made the Cullen clan uneasy, something supernatural was behind this and it was something big. And the Cullen’s weren’t the only ones on edge, on the reservation the Quileute wolves shared fretted whispers and murmurs, no one could explain what was going on or what the cause behind this unease was, but everyone concurred that the supernatural was involved, in some way, shape or form.
“Well if it’s something supernatural, let’s kick it’s ass!”, “No, Emmett, not until we have an idea of what this is, we still don’t know where it is, that should be our main concern for now, it’s location” Carlisle explained, they were all gathered in his study, trying to come up with a plan and an explanation. Edward leaned against a shelf, “So what? We wait?”, Carlisle gave him a look, “There’s nothing else we can do, I’ve never seen this type of phenomenon”, the family shared a few concerned looks. The tension thickened when Bella’s phone rang, she answered, “Jake, what is it?”, the room was silent as Bella and Jacob exchanged words, but the call ended quick, Bella bit her lip, Carlisle frowned, “What is it Bella?”, Bella shook her head slightly, “Jake…they all think it’s coming from La Push”, “La Push is the nearest beach from here, the wolves think it’s there?” Edward asked, Bella nodded, “Jake said they’ve been getting a weird scent near the water when they got there”, “The wolves are at the beach now?”, “Yes”, Carlisle nodded, “Alright, hopefully they won’t be too mad, but we need to go there, it could be dangerous for them to encounter something without help” Carlisle spoke, the family nodded, “We need to hurry then” and with that, they left.
Leah was the second to arrive after Jacob at the beach, the storm was still going strong and rain was pouring hard. It didn’t take long for the rest of the shifters to arrive along with the Cullen’s. Leah sneered at them, their smell repulsed her and she could’ve gagged if they weren’t in a serious situation.
“Jacob, we hope you don’t mind, but we had to come, given the occasion” Carlisle shook Jacob’s hand, “Trust me, I’m almost glad you’re here, we don’t know what’s going on but we picked up a scent not too long ago, we don’t know what it is but we don’t like it”, Carlisle nodded, “Alright, we need a plan then”, Paul scoffed, “You don’t have a plan? Great”, Sam shut him up with a glare, but Carlisle didn’t seem to mind, “We’re as in the dark as you are, trust me”, Jacob sighed and clenched his jaw, “So what do we?” his tone was hard, but tense, Carlisle glanced at the water, “Our best bet is to go in, see what we can find and take it from there”, Jacob looked at him like he was crazy, “You’re not serious!” he fisted his hands into his hair, Seth stood beside his sister, “Leah, you think Jake is okay?”, Leah pinched the bridge of her nose, before giving her brother a look of disbelief, “What do you think Seth”, Seth shrugged, before mumbling a ‘sorry’, Leah shook her head, “Whatever bu- Leeches!”, Leah’s yell turned everyone’s attention to her, she pointed to the treeline, “Yeah, we smell them too, get rid of them!” Jacob ordered. The packs shifted and assumed a defensive stance while the Cullen’s did the same, in a matter of seconds a group of newborn’s ran at them, but just as they were about to clash something shot out of the water and slammed into the newborn’s, killing them. The force of the collision shook the ground beneath everyone’s feet as they stared in awe at what they saw.
There was a giant tentacle dragging the bodies into the water, and as they disappeared something else started emerging from the water’s surface. “I don’t believe it…” Carlisle’s voice was shaky, “What is it Carlisle?!” Emmett’s yelled, Carlisle turned to look at his son, “That’s the Kraken”, his words etched themselves into everyone’s minds as the beast finally appeared from the surface, a few snarls came from the wolves as they growled at the large figure, Carlisle shot the pack a warning look, “Don’t attack it!”, Sam let out a bark to order his pack back and Jacob followed suite, everyone’s attention was now on the Kraken. The beast let out a dangerous and low drawl, the sound blending in with the thunder above it, and then it spoke,
“Go away…or die” it’s voice was deep and scratchy, sending waves of fear and shock into the Cullen’s and the wolves. Carlisle spoke up, “Please, we don’t want any trouble, but you’ve seemed to cause a disturbance in the weather which drew our attention, I hope to come to an agreement, if you’re willing to listen!”, the Kraken let out a rumble, stretching it out and making it sound like it was contemplating something. It spoke again, “…I will listen…”, before Carlisle could say more the beast descended into the waves, the storm seemed to calm too, there wasn’t such heavy rain as before, instead it was a drizzle, and the thunder and strong winds died down to nothing but a breeze. Some of the wolves whined when nothing seemed to happen after a minute, everyone was being cautious.
The waves collapsed against the shore and a figure appeared from the aftermath. It was a man, young, but husky and tall, everything about him cried danger. But to Leah, her world seemed to stop, all of a sudden it didn’t feel like gravity was keeping her down, it was him. The man stopped a few feet away from both groups, his gaze locked with Leah’s, and he frowned, he felt peculiar, uneasy, fluttering in his body, and he didn’t know how to handle it, he determined the cause to be her, and so he marched towards the white wolf, ignoring the growls and tension that grew around him. He stopped two feet from her and held out his hand, and to everyone’s, and maybe even Leah’s own, surprise, she nuzzled it. The man’s face was unreadable and Carlisle kept a wary eye on him.
The man said nothing and turned away from the wolf and made way to Carlisle. Carlisle kept his face straight and his jaw tensed as the man stopped in front of him, “Greetings…”, the man sneered, and then scoffed, “(Y/n), but the humans call me the Kraken”, his voice was deep, smooth yet had an edge of a roughness to it, his voice fit his character perfectly Leah noted. Carlisle nodded, “I didn’t think the legends were true, seems I’ve been proven otherwise”, (y/n) crossed his arms, “Indeed, now what is it you want? You clearly are not human, I hear no heartbeat, nor the rushing of blood through veins”, Carlisle smiled, “Indeed we are not humans” he gestured towards his family, “We’re vampires, and those wolves are the protectors of the humans here, they are shapeshifters, able to morph from human to their current form. Now, what we need is some form of a treaty, we don’t need the humans to come looking for something that might kill them”, (Y/n) sighed, “Should I care? Because I don’t, the humans are of no concern to me”, Carlisle crossed his arms, “Well, I’m sure you don’t want them to try and seek you out? The humans do not understand the supernatural, they won’t leave you alone until they manage to get a piece of you to study and possibly experiment on, you won’t have peace”, a frown sketched itself onto (y/n)’s face, he stayed quiet for a moment before speaking, “I see…Well then, I shall remain hidden from the humans by staying in this form until I feel like changing back of course, I don’t need them meddling in my waters”, Carlisle nodded, “Good, and we’ll stay out of your way as well, you’ll need to form an agreement with the Quileute pack yourself, we stay out of each other’s ways, we formed a treaty long ago not to cross into their land you see, but I must thank you, I wasn’t expecting your co-operation” he held out his hand to shake, (y/n) looked at his hand, then to his face and back to his hand before shaking it. Without another word Carlisle gave Jacob a firm nod before disappearing with the other Cullen’s.
Leah watched closely as the man made his way over, Sam, in his wolf form, met him in the middle, letting out a growl. “I’ll stay off your land and you don’t bother me, deal?” the man smirked, Sam huffed in his face before giving a wolf form of a nod.
Everything after was a blur.
Leah found herself as the centre of teasing and comments about her imprinting. She hated the guys in Sam’s pack for not laying off her, many of them had yet to imprint and those who did seemed to only tease her the worst for it. It gave her headaches and she spent nearly all her time in her wolf form and away from the reservation. Her mind was centred around the man? Beast? Whatever it is. She didn’t want to confront him about it, because she was afraid he might kill her or not accept her at all. She wished the recent events were only dreams, but she couldn’t lie to herself, she had to accept it. She just didn’t know how she was going to talk to the man, and she wasn’t even sure she could have a future with him, he smelt like seaweed and the ocean, and she liked it.
Her mind being occupied distracted her from her surroundings, and she found herself wandering onto the beach of La Push, she wasn’t in her wolf form and the ocean breeze gently caressed her tan cheeks as she became aware of where she was. She was midway in turning back when she heard his voice, “You’re the white wolf who bonded to me” , he was sitting off to the side near a pile of drift wood, Leah cursed herself, nodding she answered, “Yes”, the man nodded, he was staring intently and curiously at her, “Come sit beside me, let us find out more about each other then, you intrigue me”, Leah’s feet moved on their own accord and soon she was sat beside him telling him things about herself.
And this was how it went on for months, them sharing stories and adventures, learning about the others life and so on, it gave Leah a warm feeling she hadn’t felt since before Sam left her, she clung to it, she wasn’t about to let it go that easily. Not now that she finally imprinted. Now she could start living.

ONE SHOT: Being A Hero
Summary: (POV Hawks) He thought it was going to be like any other day, punching a few bad guys here, locking a few up there, maybe getting a little deeper into an investigation. He didn’t think it would lead into you (Y/N) being put in the middle of it all.
Word Count: 2.9k
Content: fluff
It is hard leaving you every morning, especially when you’re sprawled out like that, drooling on the pillowcase when I get up for work. You always look so beautiful, sleeping so peacefully on both mine and your side. Almost every day do I regret not spending just 10 extra minutes with you, holding you, snuggling up to stay warm. At least I always have something to look forward to when I get home.
Alright, since you all know I have a soft spot now. And yes, it is because of my beautiful partner.
To be honest, not a lot of people know about us, and the main purpose being that I want to protect you and keep you safe. Being a hero is great and all but when it comes to the more personal side of things, villains will do almost anything to break down every bit of you. And that ‘every bit’ of me, is you, Y/N.
“Wait, baby?” You cooed, sleep ridden in both your face and voice as you called out to me. You propped yourself on your elbow, giving me a weak smile, eyes barely open. “I love you.” I felt my cheeks warm up, my heart bursting at how cute you looked laying there, in my shirt may I add.
“I love you, baby.” I walked over, dipping my head in to steal a kiss. I could feel you lean into the kiss, a smile slowly forming. “Keep acting like that and I’ll have to take the day off.”
“Don’t tempt me, you know I’ll do it.” I love how cheeky you are, always testing me. I knew that if I lingered any longer, you would’ve succeeded and I would be in trouble. I mean, I’m my own boss but I do have a name to live up to. This is my job after all. “Be safe out there, please.” You always said the same thing, every day.
“I’ll come home safely but can’t promise about coming home in one piece,” I replied, like I always did. You hated that comment, shaking your head with that little indent forming in your brows. God you’re so adorable, the way your hair does that thing and when my shirt dips off your shoulder? Not to mention how lovely your gross morning breath is, and the drooling? That shit is so hot.
“Are you going to leave?” You asked, weakly throwing the pillow you had been cuddling all morning towards me. We both stared at the pillow, then up at each other, your face getting bright red at how weak your throw was. I couldn’t help but shake my head, a smile forming. It’s not a laugh babe, I’m just smirking. “Stop laughing!” God I know you so well.
“Sorry! I wasn’t laughing but I was staring at you and that’s why I haven’t left.” This caused your cheeks to flare, knowing I hit your flustered button. “Okay I’m actually leaving. Goodbye beautiful.” I hate this part of the day, leaving you alone every morning. I know you know how to keep yourself busy but I just wish I could do it with you.
If I’m going to be honest with myself, I love being a hero. I love saving people, the fame, the name of the game, the whole rodeo! But as time goes on and as I get to spend my free time with you, I keep falling more and more for you. I didn’t really think that was possible, but here I am, admitting it to myself I guess. You are something else, something truly special.
Like, you’re weird, for starters. The way you make those weird noises when you’re gaming or when you cry at any animal video ever but will cuss out the 15 year old who called you a name over game chat. You’re also extremely loving, sensitive, emotional, funny, a great cook, hardworking. I fall more in love everyday and every day I question whether or not I want to be a hero or if I’m ready to start my own family and give up on this hero work. I could pass my agency down or even take myself out of the field and let someone else be the face of my agency.
Not yet, I can’t let myself give up yet. I know we talked about a family and you were the one who told me that we can wait, but I don’t know if I want to wait. Okay, yes I do. Being a dad sounds very scary right now. But what if they had my wings? A little me flying around? And if they end up being quirkless, like you, then even better. I know we have the potential of raising a wonderful family and one hell of a cool kid.
“Excuse me. Hawks, sir?” Tokoyami blinked at me, noticing how spacey I was being. This isn’t too irregular of me but I will admit, I’m thinking about you a bit more today than normal.
“Sorry, what’s up kid?” He placed a packet of papers in my hands, letting me flip through it as he gave me the rundown of what was going on with the investigation I had sent him on.
“Seems to be a new name in the face of criminals. 15 abdutions, 23 dead, the only lead we have on him is that he is extremely unreadable, attacking at random. He knows the heroes know about him, his quirk also undetermined.” Only been spotted twice, once in the middle of an attack and the second, we had prevented from happening. No wonder, he’s probably done his own investigation on us, that’s why it’s so hard to find him right now.
“I guess we better patrol the area he was last in,” I told Tokoyami who responded with his aggressive ‘yes sir!’ like he always did. I really like Tokoyami and I know you think it’s probably because he’s a bird but I promise you, it’s more than that. Not only does he have a bad ass quirk and a lot of spirit for this field, he’s hard working and quite quick on his feet. Not to mention, he has been helpful in the plan doing and the more technical side of things.
Patrolling was one of those tasks that are either mundane and boring, just walking around for hours, being stopped by the occasional fan. Or it could be fucking wild, villians bursting at the seems of the city with every turned corner. I sent Tokoyami out by himself for the day, tagging up with the other sidekicks in hopes to find something on this unnamed villain.
A cold blooded killer, almost like Stain except this guy was keeping quiet. No drawn out speech, no motive, at least none that we are aware of because this guy has kept his lips shut. I have this uneasy feeling that he could be planning something bigger and we are in no way, shape, or form, ready for that. Not yet at least.
Where could this guy be? I mean the last place he was seen was in an alleyway, a couple blocks away from one of the main train stations. It looks to me that my sidekick, along with the others, are posted up along the major stops which contained the most traffic for people. So where is this guy hiding? Does he have a shadow quirk? Maybe a morphing one?
“Hawks! Sir we need you down here now! He’s appeared and we have him surrounded but he’s asking for you specifically!” What the fuck? Asking for me? I know nothing of this guy, never seen him, never crossed paths. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I became, wondering what this man wanted.
“On my way! Keep him restrained.” As I flew towards the location, I really didn’t know what to expect. I mean, it was very rare that this type of thing happens, ever since the League of Villains disappeared. One day, they just relocated and it had been several years since we had seen anything from them. Those were the only people I knew that would know me by name. Come to think of it, I hadn’t really thought that. What if it were the league we were dealing with?
When I arrived, he was surrounded like Tokoyami had said, only no one was able to get close enough to him without being impaled by a solid morphed body part he could manipulate and hardern. I slowly stepped towards the man, hidden by a black cloak. He had been restrained with industrial cuffs so why hadn’t the team sent him away? “Why didn’t you guys just lock him up? I could’ve just talked to him there.”
“Because sir,” Tokoyami pointed down at his feet that looked to be molded in with the ground. “We tried to remove it but every time, he would seep more into the floor or manipulate his body into spikes, too sharp for anyone to touch. The only way we could get him to cooperate was to get you down here.” A morphing and hardening quirk, how typical of a villain.
“Alright, well you have me! What do you want?” I ripped the hood off of his head, revealing a man I have never seen before. I mean I deal with people all day, I talk to hundreds of people a week. What could this random man have to do with me? “Mute huh? How lame. And to think I thought you were interesting-”
“Number 2 hero,” he growled, his voice deep and raspy, cutting me off. “What an honor it is to meet the man who had successfully tracked me down. You know that the heroes in America and Europe are having a hard time linking my cases together?”
“I don’t care for your story,” I spat, trying my best to make sure I didn’t lose my shit at this guy. “I want to know why you wanted me here.”
“That little… thing of yours,” he started, waving his cuffs in the air, like he was conducting some sort of crowd. “You hold so close to you, so precious. Not to mention they smell wonderful and have very soft hair.”
No.
“What were they wearing today? A black top? The sweet smell a musky vanilla?”
He’s not talking about you, is he?
“It was the Pokemon backpack though, that part was adorable.” I didn’t think, I just moved. His shirt was clenched in my fist, the other hand stopping me from hitting him against the wall too hard, trying not to break the train station pillars.
“What the fuck did you do?” I feel like I lost myself, the anger fully taking over my entire thought process. It’s as if I blacked out, like every precaution I was ever taught went right out the window.
“You’re too late, hero. They’re already gone by now! What are you going to do?” The man began to melt in my hands, leaving a wet substance in place of where his body was. He even managed to slip through his cuffs, leaving them in a puddle on the broken cement. He completely disappeared before appearing above a sewer cap located in the middle of the train tracks. This time, it wasn’t the man you had cuffed. It wasn’t even a man at all.
“Toga…” her name slipped from my mouth, almost as if I was deceiving myself. There was no doubt that it was her, her skin tight suit making it easy for her to slip away.
“Better hurry. Not sure how much time they have left, big guy.” She was quick to jump into the sewer, causing multiple sidekicks to jump in after her. But I was frozen, almost like my own body had melted into the cement under my feet.
Did she mean you Y/N? Everything she said sounded exactly like you, down to the heavy vanilla scent. There’s no way she got to you right?
“Hawks, go. We’ll be okay here and the Pro’s are on their way. Go.” I didn’t even say thank you but to be honest, I don’t know what’s happening right now. It’s like waves of black flooding into my line of vission, making it hard to stay focused on my flying. I’m all over the place right now, running into signs and stop lights. I clipped my jacket on something too but the adrenaline was kicking in. I didn’t even notice that I had cut my leg on something.
“Y/N!!!” I bursted through the door being met with a wave of fear and…. Loss? It felt so empty in our apartment, so cold. The fire wasn’t going, the teapot in the same spot I left it in this morning. Did you not make tea this morning? Did you eat?
My heart is aching, Y/N. I can physically feel it tearing at the seams that you had put together for me. All I want to do right now is scream, my heart being torn apart with every empty room I checked in our apartment. The bed wasn’t even made, you always made sure to make it before you left.
I lost. I have lost you, haven’t I? Now here I am, on my knees, sobbing into my hands. I don’t remember the last time I cried like this, nor do I remember the last time I felt this type of pain in my chest. I can’t breathe. I don’t know how to regulate my breathing, not without you Y/N.
“Keigo?” I lifted my head from my hands, glasses falling onto the floor with my movement. There you were, standing there with plastic bags in your hands from the grocery store. You still had my shirt on, your hair still messy from this morning. “Baby… What’s wrong?” You dropped the bags, ignoring the fragile products inside as you rushed towards me. I was quick to pull you into my arms, burying my head into the crook of your neck as I sobbed harder. And you just sat there, letting me hold you like that for as long as I needed, not once pulling away. You were warm, your touch gentle as you tried to soothe me.
I lifted myself from you, propping you on my lap so you could sit more comfortably. You lifted your hand, wiping a tear from my cheek. I could feel my stuffy nose run, my eyes stung from the raw areas due to my crying. Yet, you were so gentle, your touch comforting, welcoming, loving.
“Can we get you into some sort of training course? Like self defense? Maybe even come work at my agency so I can keep an eye on you?” I didn’t want to force you to do anything you didn’t want to, but I could feel myself beggin in my plea. It was the only thing that would give me a peace of mind about being with you, because no matter how hard this job was, I could never let you go.
“I’ll sign up for self defense yes but the agency?” You raised an eyebrow at my offer, knowing I wanted to keep you a secret for as long as I could and only the people at my agency knew of us. I guess that makes the League now too.
“Please,” I pressed our foreheads together, squeezing my eyes shut as I tried to control the high emotion I was feeling. I couldn’t stop crying, knowing that you were unsafe while I wasn’t around.
You exhaled, taking my hand into yours as you rubbed small circles across my knuckles. This didn’t stop you from smiling though, even though I know you’re worried about why I’m doing this. But you agreed anyways. “If that will make you feel like I’m safe, then I will do it.” I’m so lucky to have someone like you. You knew what it meant to be dating someone like me, yet you have never let that get in the way of us. You were aware of it but it was the mutual trust we had in each other that convinced you to listen to me.
To be honest, I do want more of a life with you. But until that day comes where that seems doable, all I want is for you to keep loving me. I want to come home everyday and hear about all the things you experienced while we were apart. I want to tell you how I beat some villains ass or have you hold me if I had a bad day. I’m so soft for you Y/N, you have opened something inside of me that I didn’t think was possible.
“God damn it Keigo!!! Your LEG!!” You began to panic, ripping my pant leg to get a better look at my fresh wound that was dripping onto the hardwood floor. “Oh my god, oh my GOD!!” You got up from your spot, rushing to the bathroom to grab any sort of first aid we had. I just shook my head, the wound being my last priority.
I just stared, like I always did when you weren’t looking. I let you patch me up, knowing it would make you feel better. Well as good as you can be, you turn into a concerned mother when stuff like this happens. It’s adorable, honeslty.
You keep me safe, more than I realize sometimes. And today, it opened my eyes a bit more, how safe I feel with you.
And in return, I promise, I will protect you.

Not Broken Part 12 (Jaehyun Mafia AU)
Not Broken Masterlist
Jaehyun X Reader
Trigger warning: mentions of abuse
I stayed in my room for several hours, just staring at the minimalistic digital clock Taeyong had set onto the vanity. It was 2:58, past the time Taeyong said lunch would be delivered to my room. In any other circumstance, I would have just gone to the kitchen and made something myself, but I really didn’t want to run into anybody from 127, especially not the pink-haired mobster himself. I hadn’t eaten at all that day, nor had I had anything to drink other than the tap from the bathroom. There were no cups to be found so I scooped the water into my mouth with my hands.
I wondered if they had forgotten about me or if there was a delay. Either way, the hunger was becoming too uncomfortable to ignore.
I glanced at the door, wondering who on earth could be on the other side. I was almost too afraid to find out. On one hand, it was very possible that they would turn out to be a staff member rather than an actual member of Nct given that Taeyong explained that they had a few staff members on hand that doubled as bodyguards. I couldn’t imagine that Nct 127 would waste any of their members’ time just to stand guard at my door, yet on the other hand, I couldn’t get rid of the sinking feeling that if I chose to find out I’d be confronted with someone like Doyoung whom I’m sure wouldn’t be so pleased with having to escort me around.
I decided to come up with an excuse to open the door, that way if it turned out to be someone I didn’t feel comfortable with, I could just ask them to clarify a rule for me or something. I supposed I could also tell them that I was hungry, but I didn’t think that Doyoung would want to be sent on an errand either.
After I made the decision to open the door, I suddenly became excited at the prospect of being able to leave the room I had just spent three hours in unable to do anything but stare at my bruises in the bathroom mirror, take nearly an hour-long shower, and look through the clothes in the closet. There definitely wasn’t anything I felt comfortable wearing in there and although I knew I shouldn’t feel any guilt asking for clothing more suited to my style, I didn’t have the guts the make the request.
I took a few deep breaths to calm my nerves before I knocked on the door.
Nothing.
Was there no one on the other side?
Knock knock.
I instantly became confused by the sudden knocking that came from the other side of the door. I knocked again only for them to knock again.
Wanting to know what was going on, I opened the door to see the blonde-haired boy I’ve come to know as Mark, fist still raised in the air.
“What are you doing?” I asked him, too puzzled by his actions to feel any relief that it was him and not Doyoung.
“Knocking,” He answered, matter of factly.
“Why?” I asked.
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking that? It makes a lot more sense for someone outside of the room to knock on the door than someone inside of the room.”
“What? I mean, you’re not wrong but I just...”
Mark began to laugh softly at my perplexed state. Despite feeling even more confused by his reaction, I did feel less nervous than before.
“I’m just messing with you,” He revealed with a warm smile.
“What do you need?”
“Oh, um... I was just wondering if I could have something to eat.”
“Sure, no problem, let me just call the cook and have him bring something up,” He agreed, taking out his phone.
“W-wait.”
Mark paused.
“I was hoping I’d be able to leave my room at some point since there isn’t much to do.”
Mark stared at me as he processed my words and I worried that he would deny my request.
“Oh, I get it. Okay, sure,” He agreed.
“Yeah, I forgot that they didn’t really give you anything to do.”
“Yeah...” I confirmed, not wanting to sound like I was complaining.
“Well, did you want to go now?”
“Yes, if that is okay.”
Instead of responding, Mark just started laughing. I couldn’t understand why because I hadn’t said anything particularly funny, so I just started awkwardly laughing with him.
“Yeah, no problem. Let’s go.”
We walked down a long hallway, and down a long flight of stairs that looked like something the Queen of England would step down to treat her guests.
When we finally got to the kitchen, there were already several people inside, none of which I had ever seen before.
“Come on, Chenle. You need to eat.”
A man with blonde hair and a faded blue fringe whose out-of-the-blue hairstyle made it look like he had literally ran out of blue hair dye and made Doyoung’s blue highlights look normal in comparison, was sitting at small kitchen table with two boys who looked to be in their mid-teens. In another part of the kitchen was an athletic looking man who seemed too busy cooking to notice that we had come in. He had light sandy brown hair that looked like it had been shadow permed and was wearing a short-sleeved shirt under a salmon colored apron. He was peeling potatoes and I couldn’t help but stare at his developed arm muscles that were more defined than any of the 127 members I had seen thus far, with the exception of Jaehyun, himself. The apron did nothing to take away from his masculine features and anyone who thought it did would have to be extremely antagonistic towards the color salmon.
The older male at the table looked up at us. Apparently, my fascination with the other gentleman must have been obvious since my attention was immediately brought back to him as he cleared his throat.
“You must be Y/N,” He commented, getting up from the table.
“Hello,” I greeted.
“Ah, uh, yes. Hello. My name is Jaemin. I’m the nanny,” He wavered in his response.
The man offered his hand and I shook it.
“And these are Chenle and Jisung,” He gestured to the two boys still sitting at the table.
I glanced at them, not fully understanding who they were. One of them, I didn’t know which was which, had blonde hair that had a bit more yellow in it than most people would have preferred. It was strange but he almost looked scared of me. His features made it seem as though he were experiencing great discomfort. He avoided my gaze choosing instead to stare at the full plate of food that sat in front of him.
The other boy, whose plate was almost empty, had dark brown hair and an extremely small face. His expression reminded me of those mean girls in the movies when they were weirded out by someone less popular than them. He didn’t look mean though, just confused as to why I was there. The two of them didn’t resemble each other in the slightest so I assumed that they were unrelated.
“What happened to your face?” The second boy blurted out.
“Jisung!” Jaemin snapped before turning back to me.
“I’m so sorry about that,” He apologized.
“It’s alright, but who are they?” I whispered the last part.
“Oh, those are Jaehyun’s younger brothers,” Mark answered for him.
“Brothers?”
Guess I was wrong about them not being related.
“Yes, and don’t worry. They’ve been caught up on everything, including your lack of involvement in the... issue at hand.”
I hadn’t even thought of the possibility that they had even known about my existence let alone about the suspicion that I was involved in their sister’s death.
They really know everything that’s going on? At such a young age? No, it made sense. In this type of family, I’m sure that they are fully aware of their brother’s business and probably have been for quite some time. Maybe they’re even being trained to eventually become members.
“Have you put anything on... to... umm... treat that?” Jaemin asked as I continued to stare off into space.
“Oh, umm, no.”
“Hang on a second. I might have some vitamin K cream somewhere. Would you all keep an eye on the boys for a quick second?”
“Ah, I, umm,” I hesitated.
“I’ll handle it, Jaemin.”
I turned around to see the aproned man who had been busy cooking up to this point smile over at us.
“Awesome! Be right back,” Jaemin confirmed before hurrying out of the kitchen.
The man who had volunteered to watch the boys rinsed his hands and dried them on a spare cloth before making his way over.
“Hi, what can I do for you?” He asked in a pleasant tone.
“Hey Jeno, this is Y/N. We came to get her something to eat,” Mark took the lead in answering for you.
“Ah, yes. Miss Y/N. I was informed of your new status as a guest here just recently. I apologize for the delay. You can sit down at the table with Jisung and Chenle while I finish preparing your lunch.”
“Oh, so you’re the chef?” I asked, wanting to know more about the strangely attractive man, totally oblivious to my appearance.
“Hm? Oh, kind of. I’m actually-”
“The butler,” Mark interrupted.
I turned to Mark and gave him an expression I can only describe as “Dude, what the fuck?”
“Well yes, butler, director of the household. It’s all the same. Stand-in-chef while the other staff is away. I pretty much do whatever is required of me in order to keep the house from burning down.”
“Oh wow. That’s impressive, especially with a house as big as this,” I beamed.
I was surprised since someone of his stature seemed as though they would fit in perfectly as a gang member, but his kind eyes gave away his lack of involvement with the group’s more criminal activities.
“Not really, I have lots of great staff to help me. Anyways, have a seat and I’ll bring a plate over once everything’s prepared.”
Mark and I sat down at the table and it was... awkward.
Jisung and Chenle just stared at me as if I had three eyes... or maybe just two black ones.
“Did someone from 127 really do that to you?” Chenle asked looking noticeably sick.
Someone?
What I wanted to say was that their brother did this to me, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell two teenaged boys how much of a monster their brother really was. Even if he deserved it, they didn’t.
“Uh, umm...”
“I’m back!”
Jaemin’s timing couldn’t have been any more perfect.
“Did you miss me?” Jaemin cooed at the two boys, making an effort to pinch Jisung’s cheeks.
“Nana, stop!” He whined.
Jaemin frowned.
“This is why they said there’s no use in raising kids.”
His attention turned to me.
“Let’s get you taken care of, shall we?”
Jaemin asked me to sit on the counter in the kitchen so that we could “talk” without having to worry about the kids and asked Mark to watch them in the dining room. Apparently Jeno and Jaemin were also included in the list of staff who could watch over me.
“So how are things going for you?” He asked.
Jaemin’s face seemed to hold genuine concern so I had no reason to give him a snarky answer, but I wasn’t certain whether I could be honest with the two of them or not. They might not have been members of NCT, but they still worked for them.
“Everything is just so hard,” I broke down.
“Oh, honey,” Jaemin cooed sympathetically.
Jaemin took me into his arms as I started to quietly weep.
Jeno who had been busy cutting vegetables pushed them aside and joined us, patting my back as Jaemin continued to hug me.
After a few moments passed, I somehow managed to cease my crying.
Once Jaemin pulled away, Jeno gave me a cloth to wipe my tears. I winced when the fabric came in contact with my bruised eyes causing Jaemin and Jeno to give each other a concerned look.
“Let’s put some of this on,” Jaemin suggested.
“I just feel so angry at how little control I have here. I feel so weak and for some reason, I feel like I have no reason to complain either, like I somehow deserve this,” I ranted as Jaemin applied the vitamin k cream with a q-tip.
“You know you don’t though, right? I mean yeah, this whole this is fucked but you just have to get through it. Do whatever you need to do to survive, even if it means taking advantage of their accommodations.”
“What do you mean?”
“They told you that you could make requests, didn’t they? If I were you, I would take them for all they’re worth. I’d ask for expensive jewelry, clothes. You know, the works,” Jaemin continued.
“I just feel like if I ask for anything then I’ll be proving that pink-haired jackass right.”
“Hm?” Jaemin quirked.
I sighed.
“Jaehyun made me an offer and when I didn’t accept it, he told me that he didn’t expect a dancer like me to refuse that much money. Then he told me we could renegotiate later. He thought I was some floozy trying to get her next payday. I don’t even want the money. I refused because what he did can’t be fixed with money.”
“Wow,” The two men uttered in unison.
“What?”
“Y/ N, you’re kind of a badass,” Jeno complimented.
“What? No, that’s the thing. I couldn’t even stand up for myself and tell him that. This whole time, I’ve felt so powerless and weak and I just wish that I could fight back just one time and have an impact.”
We all went silent as Jaemin finished applying the cream to my bruises.
“How do you like the clothes the maids picked out? This dress is nice, right?”
“Honestly? I hate them. Everything is too fancy. I don’t feel like it’s exactly normal to wear Swarovski crystals when living in your kidnapper’s estate, not that there’s exactly a dress code for that.”
“Okay, no Swarovski crystals. What else?”
“Huh? Oh no, I didn’t mean. I’m fine, really.”
“Y/N.”
Jaemin grabbed my face as gently as he could to avoid causing any further harm to my already bruised face.
“It’s the least I can do given your situation, especially when I can’t do much else for you.”
His face was suddenly filled with noticeable anguish. He was trying so hard to relieve my sorrow, it made me want to relieve some of his.
“Okay then, I guess I do have a request or two.”
“Thatta girl!” He beamed, not a trace of sadness left in his features.
“What can I do for you?”
“Would it be possible to get my own clothes from my apartment?”
“I’m sure I could find some clothes to better suit your tastes.”
“No, they have to be mine. Is that okay?”
Jaemin spent a few seconds to ponder the request.
“I don’t see why we couldn’t ask, right Jeno?”
Jeno nodded.
“What else?”
“Could I start eating meals with you guys? I don’t want to spend all day trapped in that room and I could really use the companionship.”
Jeno and Jaemin smiled at each other and then back at me.
“Of course. Mealtimes are about the only time I ever get a break in this house. That’s when Jisung and Chenle get handed over to Momo, the other nanny. The only reason we were all in here earlier is because Chenle hasn’t been eating lately. The poor child. He’s only been like this once before when his sister died. I’m sure having everything come back up has been hard on both him and Jisung.”
I didn’t know whether I should have pried or if it was better to just change the subject, but Jaemin and Jeno seemed to be trustworthy so I decided to pry.
“Are they really his brothers?”
“Adopted brothers. The previous head of the household adopted all of his children,” Jaemin explained.
“Including-” I started.
“Yes, including him.”
“He couldn’t have children otherwise, so adoption was his only option,” Jeno added.
“Jaehyun and IU were blood related though. Sooman, the former head of NCT, had been searching for quite some time to find a son to eventually take his place as leader. He and his wife went to countless orphanages but apparently he was looking for something in particular which is why they never brought anyone home with them. He would ask each of the young boys a question, but none of their answers satisfied him.”
“What was the question?” I asked, enamored by the almost folksy tale.
“No one knows for sure, but I did hear from one of the older staff, who used to work as Sooman’s personal servant, that he’d ask them why they thought he should adopt them. Simple right?”
I nodded.
“Well supposedly, when he and his wife visited the orphanage the current young master was living at, one of the workers told Sooman that the boy hadn’t spoken a word to anybody other than his sister since they arrived. Instead of skipping the young boy, Sooman asked to speak with him anyway. He probably wasn’t expecting much of a response, yet he went through the motions anyway, telling him that he was a wealthy man who was capable of changing his life and things like that. When he asked the boy why he should adopt him. The young master actually responded.”
“What did he say? How did he convince him to adopt him?”
“That’s the thing. He didn’t. He told him that he shouldn’t adopt him, but that he should adopt his sister instead. Then, after having not spoken for such a long time, he went on to explain how much of a good person his sister was and how she would make a wonderful daughter. Sooman decided to adopt them both, that very day.”
I was speechless. That kind and caring young boy who was willing to give up on everything he could have wanted to help his sister seemed worlds apart from the horrible violent man I had the displeasure of meeting. The only similarities between them was how far they were willing to go for their sister.
“I guess Sooman wanted a son who valued loyalty,” Jaemin finished.
“What about the other two?”
“Oh, Jisung and Chenle? Their biological fathers both worked for Sooman, but died when they were a lot younger, so he adopted them as a service to them.”
“Umm, Jaemin?”
We all turned to look at the sudden voice.
Mark was covered in bits and pieces of food and a string of laughter escaped my lungs.
“Oh my god. Boys!” Jaemin ran out of the kitchen and into the dining room.
“Well, that was eventful. Anyways, food’s ready,” Jeno chuckled.
Jaemin had to go take care of the boys but he promised that he would be there tomorrow for breakfast.
Mark, Jeno and I sat down at the kitchen table. At first it felt a little awkward having Mark there since he was a member of 127, but I was relieved to see that he didn’t think so.
He told us how excited he was for another one of 127’s members to return after having been undercover for the last few months. He didn’t give me any specific details about the mission itself, but he did say the member’s name a lot. Apparently since he was so deep undercover, he was rarely able to interact with any of the members without the risk of blowing his cover.
Yuta came in at one point after hearing our laugher from a nearby room.
“Y/N, you look as beautiful as ever.”
“I have two black eyes.”
“And I can honestly say that not every girl can pull it off as well as you do.”
We continued talking hours after I had already finished eating. It was weird but nice. I pondered Jaemin’s words about how I should do whatever it takes to survive. I guess it felt like isolating myself wasn’t really my best option and that maybe opening up a little bit would make this whole thing more tolerable.
I went to bed that night, annoyed by the small red camera lights that flashed every so often. The next morning, I decided to just wear the green dress again since it was the only thing I really felt comfortable in, but instead of leggings, I put jeans on underneath. It looked kind of strange, but I didn’t care.
Jaemin told me that he was going to ask Jaehyun about my clothes at some point today. Jeno, Jaemin, and I met for breakfast. Mark tagged along since he happened to be guarding my door again. He quickly discovered that we made a promise to start eating meals together, so he also came to lunch despite not being on guard duty.
“Everyone else just eats in their rooms. We never have mealtimes together. I wish we would though,” He explained.
Not just him, but Yuta started to eat with us too. When it was time for us to meet for lunch, Yuta happened to be the one guarding my door, so he when he escorted me down to the kitchen only to see that Jaemin, Jeno and Mark were waiting for me, he demanded he stay to keep an eye on me despite there being three other men there to watch me.
It was strange at first, but it was nice to freely speak with each other without worry. Yuta continued to hit on me only to get scolded by Jaemin. Mark would laugh and Yuta would punch him in the arm, all while Jeno quietly smiled as though it were the most normal thing in the world for two mafia members, two staff members hired by said mafia members, and a former hostage kidnapped, also by said mafia members, to sit around a kitchen table laughing and having a ball.
I noticed how whenever he smiled, his eyes would form crescent moon slits, that made it hard to believe that he could see anything beyond them.
Nothing about the situation was normal, but I found myself feeling almost grateful for the scene unraveling in front of me. If this was going to be my new normal for the time being, maybe it wouldn’t be that bad.
<><><><><><><>
“The Itaewon lead was a bust. They found no trace of Wayv at any of their usual hangouts. Should I instruct S. Coups to have his men start canvasing the surrounding areas?” Taeyong updated his boss as they wandered the estate.
“No need. Have them return to Neozone to await further instructions. Wayv’s aware we’re looking for them, so they know to cover their tracks.”
Jaehyun was visibly frustrated at the lack of breakthroughs in the search for Wayv. His face was noticeably thinner than it was just a few days ago.
“We’ll just have to wait until they come for the girl.”
“Jae?” Taeyong quirked.
“Yes? What is it?”
“What’s that noise?”
The two men halted their conversation to focus on the sounds of laughter coming from the kitchen.
“Should we go see what they’re doing? Taking your mind off everything for a bit might make you feel better,” Taeyong suggested.
“It’s probably just Jaemin and Jeno flirting with each other. I can’t for the life of me understand how they still insist on keeping their relationship a secret from me. I’ve never once said anything to give them the impression that I’d hold any disdain for their choices as long as they continued to fulfill their duties and besides, only an idiot would think those two were straight.”
Jaehyun noticed the disappointed look on his friend/colleague’s usually impassive face.
Jaehyun relaxed slightly, becoming conscious of how much stress the two have them had been under, discussing further plans of action while holed up in his office since the break of dawn.
“Perhaps I should go in to check with in Jeno, see if there are any issues with... well, anything there might be issues with,” He suggested, abandoning his strict facade.
Taeyong’s face lit up. His excitement was most evident in his already anime-like eyes which now looked to have doubled in size.
<><><><><>
My eyes continued to linger on the sandy brown-haired man who sat almost directly across from me. I knew that it was crazy to crush on someone who worked for the leader of NCT even if he wasn’t a member of the gang itself, but it had been a crazy past few days and who could blame me for being drawn to such a gentle yet strong and protective looking hottie?
“Y/N?” He asked.
Watching the pair of lips, I had been hungerly gawking at, suddenly mouth the syllables of my name immediately allowed me to snap out of whatever entranced state I had been in for the last several moments and enter into one filled with embarrassment. My eyes quickly retreated down to look at my half empty plate, hoping he hadn’t noticed my staring.
“Yes?”
“You have a piece of rice stuck to your face,” Jeno said matter-of-factly.
My cheeks started to burn from the awkwardness. I moved my hand to brush the food from my face only for Yuta to beat me to it.
I jolted away, withdrawing from the man’s touch. Ready to berate him for the abrupt intrusion, I turned in time to see Yuta bring the speck of rice to his lips with a mischievous grin. I scoffed, unamused by his playful antics, as he merely continued to smirk. I glared at him briefly while taking notice of his purple locks.
His hair was always a dark purple similar to that of a plum, but under the bright kitchen lights it took on an especially violaceous hue. The intensity of the color and how it was almost hypnotic in a way led me to wonder if the devil might more accurately be depicted wearing violet than he would in his usual scarlet tones.
Yuta’s sly smile grew into a Chesire grin as he saw my anger morph into mesmerism. My gaze retreated from his and my cheeks were noticeably redder than before.
“Dude, that was gross,” Mark commented, bringing my attention back to the three other men at the table.
Yuta started laughing and I glanced at Jaemin and Jeno who glanced at each other and then back at me like two schoolgirls ready to hear all the hot gossip after seeing the school’s bad boy flirting with their friend.
Great, now they think something’s going on with Mr. Hits-on-anything-with-a-pulse over here.
I did everything to stop from groaning, but it must not have been enough to hide my annoyance as for the first time, everyone at the table was laughing except for Mark who had a perplexed look on his face.
“Oh, how nice!”
We all turned in our chairs to find the source of the sudden voice.
By now, I was easily able to recognize that the voice as belonged to Taeyong so when tufts of scarlet hair entered my vision, I thought nothing of it, but then a second man with oddly colored hair followed soon after. My lungs were empty of air, yet I couldn’t find the courage to breathe.
He was dressed in the most casual outfit I had seen him in. A black shirt tucked into black jeans held up by a black belt with a silver colored buckle. A clashing gold colored watch with red and green detailing drew attention to his right wrist and consequentially, the veins that traveled up his forearms. His hair lacked any product as far as I could tell, and his bangs swept past his browbone and into his eyes. I noticed that the man’s rose gold locks were slightly translucent, probably from the bleaching process, and must not have done much to impair his ability to see past them.
Unable to turn away, I silently prayed that he would overlook my presence, but that hope revealed itself to be a pipedream as our eyes immediately made contact with each other.
“What’s going on here?” Jaehyun demanded.
“They’re all eating together! How fun!” Taeyong observed, seemingly unaware of his boss’s hostile tone.
Taeyong wandered over to the table and took a seat in the last empty seat, leaving his boss to remain standing by the door.
“You know, I always thought that we should start eating meals together, but it didn’t seem like the other members were up for it.”
Jaehyun stomped towards us, irritation written across his face. My instincts were telling me to flee, to run out of there and never look back, but instead my body braced itself, knowing that it didn’t have to courage to move even the slightest bit.
“Jeno? Don’t you two have work to do?” He questioned the sandy-haired man.
Jeno and Jaemin looked at each other then back at their boss.
“Everything is running ahead of schedule, sir. I already have the ingredients prepared for tonight’s dinner.”
Jaehyun paused, processing the response before turning to Jaemin.
“And what about you? Where are Chenle and Jisung?”
“Umm... sir? This is my scheduled lunch break. The boys are with Momo,” He responded with perturbed intonation.
Jaehyun brought his right hand to his face and pinched the upper bridge of his nose in frustration, sending a quick glance at Yuta and Mark.
“Don’t look at us, you only told us to be on standby in case we needed to have a meeting,” Yuta reminded in a disinterested tone.
Before Jaehyun could chastise Yuta for such a cheeky response, Taeyong began to speak.
“Awesome. Since nobody is going to be busy for the time being, should we pull up another chair?” He asked staring up at Jaehyun’s intimidating figure.
I started begging the universe to save me from having to sit at the same table as the man who was possibly the only person I was more afraid of than Lucas.
“Actually, there was something I was hoping I could talk with you about, boss,” Jaemin announced, getting up from his chair.
“Shall we?” He asked.
Jaehyun looked down at the five of us who remained seated at the table before returning his gaze to Jaemin. Without saying anything, he merely made his way out the kitchen door, Jaemin waving goodbye as he followed.
I took a deep breath and let it out, not intending for it to be as loud as it was. Everyone at the table looked at me with concern.
“Y/N?” Taeyong quirked.
“I’d like to go back to my room please,” I mumbled, not wanting to hear whatever Taeyong had to say.
Yuta volunteered to escort me back to my room. Not a word was exchanged between us on the way.
Once I was alone, I settled into my bed and began to softly sob into one of the pillows.
I was so scared of him that I couldn’t even move. I’m so sick and tired of being so weak and defenseless.
I continued to cry until the tears began to sting my bruised eyes.
I can’t be afraid of him anymore. I need to get stronger. No matter what it takes, I need to survive.
<><><>
“Take a seat,” Jaehyun offered, already seated back at his desk.
“Oh, this won’t take long,” Jaemin replied, choosing to remain standing.
Jaehyun quirked an eyebrow at the staff member before leaning back in his chair.
“Very well. What is it you needed to discuss with me?”
Jaemin got straight to the point, not wasting any time to ease his boss into the issue at hand.
“Y/N doesn’t feel comfortable wearing any of the clothes that were picked out for her.”
The curiosity that had occupied Jaehyun’s features dissipated, replaced with the slightest hint of aggravation.
“And so, the requests start to flood in,” Jaehyun muttered under his breath.
“I’m sorry, sir. What was that?” Jaemin asked, unsure if he was meant to hear his boss’s words.
“So, let me guess, the clothes aren’t good enough for her despite the fact that each article is probably worth more than what she’d make in a year?” Jaehyun sneered, not making any attempt to hide the disgust in his voice.
Jaemin furrowed his brows at the unexpected response.
“No, sir. That’s the opposite of what I’m saying.”
Now it was Jaehyun’s turn to furrow his brows.
“Hm?”
“Y/N doesn’t feel comfortable wearing clothes of such a high quality, especially when they were paid for by her...” Jaemin paused, hoping that his boss would understand and that he wouldn’t have to finish the less than favorable account of why exactly Y/N didn’t want to wear the clothes Jaehyun had instructed to be prepared for her.
Jaehyun glared at Jaemin, daring him to finish his sentence, not showing any hint of mercy towards the staff member.
“-captor,” The man finished, doing his best to maintain a professional demeanor while still presenting a strong front.
Jaehyun’s anger unexpectedly dispersed. He sat up in his chair, tapping the desk as he deliberated Jaemin’s words.
“I’ll send a maid out on another run for her,” He decided.
“Is that all?”
“Well, boss, that isn’t-” Jaemin began.
“Actually, why don’t you do it since you probably know more about her... tastes. I’ll have Jeno instruct Momo of your absence and let her know that she’ll have the boys for the time being.”
Jaehyun’s voice was laced with an emotion Jaemin couldn’t quite make out. Was it bitterness or perhaps just irritation?
“She doesn’t want new clothes, sir.”
Jaehyun’s dusted pink bangs, fell to the side of his forehead as his head tilted the slightest bit.
“Then why are you here taking up my time, Jaemin?”
“She wants the clothes to be removed from her closet and for someone to retrieve her own clothes from her apartment complex.”
“What?”
“Can that be done?” Jaemin pressed on.
“Hold on a minute. Why does she want her own clothes? We could have any article of clothing she wants prepared for her by the end of the day. Hell, we could create an exact replica of her closet if she wanted. Just have her tell us-”
“Excuse me for speaking so boldly and without tact, sir, but it seems as though Y/N doesn’t want any handouts you have to offer her,” Jaemin interjected.
A strange tension filled the air as Jaemin explained his understanding of the situation. Jaehyun seemed as though he were debating amongst himself as he processed this new and unanticipated information. His eyes stared past Jaemin instead of at him and all the younger man could do was wait for his boss’s reply.
Jaehyun took his office phone off its receiver and lifted it to his ear before pressing the 1 on the keypad. A moment passed before Jaehyun spoke up.
“B.I.? Yes, have S.Coups and his men stop by Y/N’s apartment in Hongdae before they return to NEOzone. I want all her things brought back with them. Someone will come by this evening to pick them up.”
After giving his instructions, Jaehyun hung up the phone and looked up at Jaemin.
“Why don’t you take the rest of the afternoon off and head to NEOzone headquarters later tonight to grab her things?” He proposed, his face and voice having returned to their usual unreadable states.
“Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.”
<><><>
After Jaemin exited through his office door, Jaehyun was left to contemplate Jaemin’s words.
Had he really misjudged Y/N this much? All this time, he assumed that if she wasn’t working with Wayv, that she’d probably cause problems for them by threatening to expose them unless she got whatever amount of money she needed to keep her mouth shut. Yet here she was, not only choosing to forgo making any requests for newer and better things but actively refusing them as well.
It was enough to baffle Jaehyun to the point of complete frustration.
What was it that she wanted? Was it possible she didn’t want anything except to go home? To be safe from Wayv’s grasp?
Jaehyun felt a strong urge to leave his office, the walls of which seemed to be closing in on him. He wondered if perhaps a walk would clear his head and allow him to organize his thoughts, but as he wandered through the halls, the weight of his actions finally hit him.
What have I done?
Images of Y/N’s first night at the estate crept into the front of his mind, but before he could really weigh the impact of his actions, he remembered seeing his sister, naked and shoved into a box that was left on their doorstep.
He shook the image from his mind and buried it along with any feelings of guilt that threatened to arise.
He couldn’t let his emotions get the best of him. After all, there was still a chance that Y/N was working with Wayv.
“Hey, boss.”
Too distracted by his thoughts, Jaehyun had unknowingly walked past the security room where Taeil had set up. Having been woken up from his thoughts, Jaehyun entered the room through the open doorway. Monitors showing live footage of Y/N’s room seemed to make up most of the room’s light with the exception of Taeil’s empty laptop screen. Taeil was holding a mug filled with either coffee or tea, Jaehyun didn’t bother to ask which.
“What’s she doing?” He inquired, taken aback by the images displayed on the monitors.
“Working out, I assume,” Taeil answered not sounding so sure himself.
“Why is she so... bad at it?”
They both watched in silence, suffering from secondhand embarrassment as footage of my first attempt at doing a push up since middle school gym played across multiple screens.
“Why is she- What is she-” Jaehyun couldn’t even figure out what to ask, giving up halfway through each unfinished inquiry.
“I don’t know but this has been going on for the last half hour. I was getting some work done since I didn’t really wanna watch her cry, but when she started doing jumping jacks all of a sudden, I couldn’t really look away,” Taeil reported, looking visibly uncomfortable.
Jaehyun tore his eyes from the screen and returned his gaze to Taeil.
“Crying?”
Taeil returned to his laptop, quickly reopening a dark colored window with past recordings of Y/N’s room. After muting the current footage, Taeil brought up footage timestamped 1:34, roughly ten minutes after Jaehyun left the kitchen with Jaemin.
Several cameras were installed to ensure there were no blind spots in the room, but the camera that produced this specific footage only provided coverage of the bed and some of the floor surrounding it. For the first few seconds, the room seemed to be empty of any life, until the sound of a door opening was projected from a nearby speaker and Y/N entered the screen’s image. She climbed onto the mattress, wrinkling the neatly made bedspread and sat there silently staring off God knows where. Jaehyun and Taeil watched as Y/N grabbed a pillow and held it tightly against her. She began to cry, occasionally reaching up to wipe away the tears that streamed down her bruised cheeks.
Taeil paused the video roughly sixty seconds after the sobbing had started and turned to his boss.
“This went on for like ten minutes, but then look at this,” He said, relaying the contents of the video.
Taeil pressed the fast forward key, stopping the video after a few seconds and then pressed the spacebar to resume.
The screen continued to show footage of Y/N crying, before she abruptly stopped altogether. She rubbed her blackened eyes visibly wincing from the contact. After several moments of just staring at nothing, she then preceded to get up from the bed and disappeared out of view. Taeil took a few seconds switching to another camera, this one showing a complete view of Y/N as she began to start doing jumping jack, like Taeil described earlier.
Taeil paused the video.
“The next twenty minutes are just of her doing various exercises. She’s alright with cardio, but anytime she attempts any strength training, it ends up looking like, well... that,” He gestured towards the monitors that showed that the current Y/N was still struggling to lift herself back into the air after falling back down.
“She is persistent, I’ll give her that,” Jaehyun observed.
“Makes you wonder how we ever thought she was a part of Wayv,” Taeil laughed.
Jaehyun’s gaze shot back to Taeil.
He was right.
If Y/N was working with Wayv, she would have at least been trained in basic hand to hand combat, right? Yet here he was, watching her get visibly more and more frustrated with herself as she failed to do what even people who aren’t particularly athletic should be able to do.
The possibility that she was faking it crossed his mind only for it to disappear without a trace when he watched Y/N fall onto her already bruised face, yelping in pain.
“I think she’s trying to get stronger,” Taeil speculated.
Stronger?
Jaehyun started to contemplate whatever possible motives Y/N could have for wanting to become stronger, when he felt a heaviness in his chest. A heaviness he hoped to ignore for just a little longer but couldn’t.
“Hmm,” He hummed.
<><><>
I woke up to the sound of knocking. A groan escaped my mouth as I turned to look at the clock. My eyes had still not adjusted to being open this early in the morning, so I struggled to make out the numbers that shined in blue light.
5:00.
Five a.m.? Really?
It was still dark in my room as the sun had yet to rise. I rolled over in my bed and pulled the covers over my head, hoping the person knocking would get the hint and fuck off.
They didn’t.
Eventually, the door opened, and I could hear footsteps approaching. Instead of feeling aggravated since my slumber was being cut short, I felt an unignorable sense of fear.
Wayv.
I moved the covers just enough to look at the vanity table. There wasn’t much on it, but I could see the outline of a lamp.
If I move fast enough, I could grab it and use it as a weap-
“Goodmorning Y/N!”
I screamed as the duvet was ripped from my body.
I stared up at the shadowy figure that stood at the foot of the bed.
“Oh, come on, I don’t look that bad in the mornings, do I?”
The lights turned on and suddenly I could see.
Jaemin continued to stare down at me in amusement as I alternated between looking at him, and Jeno who was standing by the light switch near the door.
“Guess who brought gifts!” Jaemin prompted, pulling a bag of clothes off the ground and spilling them onto the bed.
“What?”
“I brought you your clothes!” Jaemin replied as though it were the most normal thing in the world to wake someone up at five a.m. just to give them their clothes.
I looked down at the clothes on the bed and noticed a bag filled with clothes I didn’t recognize.
I opened it and took out a bright orange hoodie, the tag still attached.
“I told you I didn’t want any new clothes. Jaehyun will think-”
“Jaehyun doesn’t have to know. He gave me the afternoon off to pick up your stuff, but I noticed that you really didn’t have many clothes to begin with, so I thought I’d supplement your closet a bit. Don’t worry. These are gifts from me and Jeno, paid for with our money, not Jaehyun’s.”
“But-”
“No buts. It’s the least we could do and besides, it’s just a few hoodies. No big deal. Jeno and I wear this brand of hoodie all the time. They’re cheap, but comfier than anything you’ll find in any of the members’ closets.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Jaemin said with a smile.
“But that wasn’t why I was saying but,” I began.
“Hm?” Jaemin hummed curiously.
“I really appreciate you bringing my clothes here, and the hoodies are lovely, but why did you have to wake me up at five a.m. to give them to me?”
Jaemin chuckled and looked to Jeno.
“I’ll let him explain that and while you two are gone, I’ll get started on getting rid of the clothes in the closet and hanging these up instead.”
“While we’re gone?”
I looked to Jeno for some help understanding what the other man was trying to say. Instead, Jeno walked over to us and smiled.
“Are you ready for your first day of training?
<><><><><>
After leaving me to get dressed in my workout clothes, a simple t shirt and yoga pants, plus a royal blue hoodie that I found in the bag along with the others, Jeno guided me out into the hall way, taking the time to answer my questions along the way.
“What do you mean you’re gonna train me?”
“I’m in charge of training all the insider staff so that they can double as bodyguards if need be. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
“I didn’t mean why you were going to train me, I meant why are you going to train me?”
Jeno hesitated before answering.
“Don’t you want to get stronger so you can feel safer?” He asked.
“I mean yeah, but will it be okay?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I still have a cracked rib for starters and what if Jaehyun finds out?”
“I’ve trained people with worse injuries,” Jeno reassured.
“And you don’t need to worry about Jaehyun. He was the one who suggested it in the first place.”
“What? Why?”
I stopped in my tracks. Jeno stopped shortly after turning around to meet my gaze.
“Y/N, I know you’re probably more than a bit confused right now, but maybe don’t look a gift horse in the mouth? I mean, nothing good can come out of questioning Jaehyun’s motives. For now, just be happy that you’ll have something to focus on for the next few days.
Jeno resumed his steps and so did I. For some reason, Jeno’s words didn’t lend me any comfort.
<><><><>
“Harder! Hit it harder!” Jeno yelled from behind the punching bag.
It had been three days since Jeno started training me and somehow each day seemed to get harder and harder. My muscles were sore, and my bones felt like they would turn to dust. This was the routine, wake up at 5:00, warm up for thirty minutes, cardio for twenty, weight training also for twenty, and then the next two hours would be dedicated to basic self-defense and hand-to-hand combat. Despite my body feeling like it was one day away from falling apart completely, it looked better than it had in days. My bruises were almost completely healed, and my face had basically returned to normal. Breathing was still hard due to my slowly healing rib, but Jeno refused to let it hold me back as he constantly ordered me to hit harder, run faster, and lift heavier.
The kind and gentle Jeno I knew was long gone by the time training began, replaced by a mountain of pent up rage and aggression. It was no wonder he was able to stay so unbothered despite working such a stressful job. As soon as he entered the gym, it was like he was releasing every ounce of anger he had built up over the course of his life, and damn there was a ton of it. If that wasn’t enough to get over my crush on him, learning that he and Jaemin were dating threw the whole thing away.
I once asked Jaemin how he could stand to work out with Jeno when he was like this. His answer was surprising to say the least.
“I don’t know. I kind of like it. He just looks so sexy when he’s mad. Makes me think of all the dirty things I want him to do to me after we hit the showers.”
The rest of my days continued like normal. At mealtime, I would head to the kitchen and eat with everyone at the dining room table. We couldn’t sit at the kitchen table anymore since Taeyong, Taeil, and even Doyoung started to join us, but only because Yuta forced him to come along. The only members who didn’t join us were Johnny, Winwin and Jaehyun. I found myself wanting to ask what was going on with Winwin and Johnny since I hadn’t crossed paths with them since Jaehyun ordered them to stay glued to each other, but I couldn’t muster up the courage. I found myself missing Winwin. Even though he wasn’t the friendliest guy, there was something about him that felt comforting. For some reason I was beginning to find most of the members comforting to some extent even Doyoung’s threats seemed humorous when paired with Yuta’s sarcastic responses. I knew I should feel on guard with them, but after everything that had happened, it was nice to feel like I had friends.
Friends? Oh god. I better not be developing some weird form of Stockholme Syndrome.
“Hey! Stay focused!” Jeno commanded as he pushed the punching bag into me, knocking me down on the floor.
<><><><><>
Jaehyun chuckled softly as Y/N fell to the floor mat. He continued to watch through the two-way mirror as Jeno offered his hand to Y/N.
On the first day of their training, Jaehyun felt a strange urge to go see how things were going so he decided to take a break from his work to check in on their progress. At first, he only stayed for a few minutes, but today, he found himself losing track of time.
“She’s lovely, isn’t she?” An unexpected voice entered the room.
Jaehyun’s subtle grin abandoned his face, replaced with an irritated scowl.
“I thought I told you I was too busy for any meetings today,” He mouthed, refusing to turn towards the new presence.
“Oh, I can see that, alright,” The voice taunted.
“How did you find me here?” Jaehyun coldly huffed.
“I just rang the bell and that younger member of yours let me in. Mark, was it? After that, I made my way to your office only to find that you weren’t there. Luckily, I ran into one of your staff members, one with a particularly strange hair style I might add, and he suggested I look for you here.”
After a moment of silence passed and it was clear that Jaehyun wasn’t going to speak, the voice continued.
“I’m curious as to why you’re allowing Jeno to train her in the first place,” The voice sighed as if it were suggesting something.
Jaehyun could hear the smirk in the other man’s voice and it pissed him off to no end.
“Having her know basic defense might serve useful if Wayv decided to break their way in here or if we decided to use her for bait or something,” He explained dismissively.
“Are you sure about that? Or are you perhaps feeling guil-”
Jaehyun finally looked at his unwanted guest.
“What do you want, Suho?”
Suho’s playful smirk morphed into a frown that almost perfectly matched that of the younger man.
“We have things we need to discuss.”
<><><><><><><>
After training ended, I returned to my room to shower. Jeno decided to finish a little earlier today since he said that breaks were key to gaining progress. I don’t know how finishing thirty minutes early counts as a break in his mind especially with how long our sessions were to begin with, but I was thankful for the extra time I had to relax before heading down to lunch.
Being able to wear my own clothes was something I was grateful for. It gave me a small amount of power knowing that I didn’t owe anybody anything. It also did a lot to make me feel more comfortable in such an uncomfortable setting. I chose to wear a simple pair of black skinny jeans, a white V-neck T-shirt that hugged at my curves, and my red converse.
I had lunch with everyone being their usual happy selves before returning to my room to rest. Mark was my escort to and from lunch, so once we got back, he and I played several rounds of cards before Yuta barged in.
“Ever heard of knocking?” I playfully teased.
Yuta winked at me.
“You know what they say, you can’t hide anything from your lover.”
Mark and I looked at each other before proceeding to make all sorts of fake vomiting noises.
Yuta was unamused.
“Anyway, Mark, come on let’s go. Impromptu meeting in the billiards room,” He said suddenly in a rush.
“What about Y/N? Who’s gonna guard her?”
“Nobody.”
Yuta turned to me.
“Congrats! The boss says you’re officially too old for a babysitter, now let’s go Mark,” Yuta announced before disappearing into the hallway.
Mark promised he’d be back soon to finish the game, but hours past and there was still no sign of them.
When it was time for dinner, I decided to take advantage of my newfound freedom by making my way to the dining room unescorted. When I arrived, only Jeno and Jaemin were seated at the table. Dinner was mostly quiet. Jaemin explained that the meeting was probably still going on and that’s why we were the only three here. It made sense until Taeyong entered the dining room with a sullen look on his face.
“Y/N? Are you finished eating?”
I nodded, unsure of what else I could say or ask.
“Jaehyun wants to see you in his office.”
Scared and not knowing what to expect, I asked Taeyong what was going on, but he refused to answer. I got up and followed him. Halfway to his office, we ran into Yuta. He smiled when he saw me and opened his mouth to speak. I was expecting him to say some cheesy pick up line, but what I didn’t expect was for him to just pause before looking down at the floor, moving to the side to let us by. I looked back at him as we walked past, utterly shocked that he had actually decided not to tease me for once. It made me uneasy.
When we got to Jaehyun’s office, Taeyong knocked on the door. Instead of a voice on the other side telling us to enter, the door opened and through it walked out two members of 127 whom I had not seen in a very long time.
Johnny and Winwin.
I smiled at them silently. Winwin said nothing and only stared at me. It wasn’t comforting in any sense, but it was better than the pat me on the shoulder Johnny gave me before whispering the words, “I’m sorry.” I watched the two of them disappear down the hallway before a voice I wish I could have forgotten called for us to enter.
Taeyong led me to Jaehyun’s desk and pulled out the chair for me to sit in. Jaehyun kept his eyes glued to me, only looking away to dismiss Taeyong.
Once we were alone, Jaehyun silently stared at me as though he were carefully deciding what to say next.
“Y/N.”
I did my best to meet his gaze, careful not to let him notice my uneven breaths which grew shakier the longer he delayed the next few words that would fall past his lips.
“It has been decided that you and I will get married this month.”

the first thing you should be aware of when reading Dracula is that it’s quite Victorian, so you might find it easier, especially on a first read, to get an annotated version (the Norton Critical Edition version is quite good) that puts footnotes in to explain all the outdated references to like, London penny-meat merchants and stuff. I would say it’s significantly easier to read than Lord of the Rings, but because it was written 200 years ago the difference in language means it’s not a simple read. (However, if you have absolutely any attraction to the Gothic aesthetic, Dracula is so very much worth the brainpower to slog through the rougher sentences. Like. “...the courtyard of a vast ruined castle, from whose tall black windows came no ray of light, and whose broken battlements showed a jagged line against the moonlit sky.” The whole book is like that. A bit stilted to contemporary readers, but also breathtakingly spot-on in its Spooky Factor.)
the second thing you should be aware of is that Dracula is extremely gay, but in a Tormented Victorian Closeted way. There’s a part where Jonathan climbs out a window that just. It’s uh. The descriptions are very,, metaphorical-sounding. Again, the whole book is like that, and sometimes it’s very fun and sometimes (lookin at Lucy’s whole thing) it’s significantly more unsettling if you pay attention to the weirdly sexy descriptions of how the protagonists interact with the vampires, but I think that’s part of what I find so fascinating about Dracula--it’s unsettling and strange and the pieces don’t fit together clearly, and I still don’t know quite what to make of it, but all the same the feeling of what Stoker’s saying comes through quite clearly. There’s a reason why so many Dracula adaptations have this narrative of a protagonist falling in forbidden love with the tormented Vampyre, yknow? There’s something so unmistakeably sympathetic about the character of Dracula, even when the narrative of the story goes out of its way to establish that he has no redeeming qualities or even proper personhood, that he’s just a monster. Because there’s something about the story (even without getting into the whole “Mina and Jon murked their boss” thing) that makes a reader wonder if that’s really the whole truth. If there isn’t something tragic about Dracula. If there isn’t something in him, if not of goodness, then at least of sorrow, instead of only fear.
Anyway I digress but I think we all knew that was gonna happen; point is: Jonathan and Dracula definitely had sex, Mina and Lucy were definitely in love, Seward’s got something weird goin on with the old professor (and also he’s just very weird, full stop. sir. sir please stop experimenting on your asylum inmates. sir i know this is victorian england but please Do Not), and Quincey, well, Quincey is an American cowboy with a bowie knife, and I think that’s all we really need to know.
ok and! the third thing you should be aware of is The Racism. Imperialist Britain, yo. Bram Stoker was Irish so like, it isn’t half as bad as some other authors of his time period (Rudyard Kipling anyone), but the racism is real and I don’t wanna gloss over that. The g**sy slur is used with abandon for a huge assortment of people groups, there’s a tacit as well as overt acceptance of the idea that West is superior to East, and because the educational system where I grew up is a joke and I can only learn things if I accidentally fall down the wikipedia hole of researching the insect genus hemiptera, i genuinely still don’t know how accurate the extensive history of Romania recounted in the first third of the book actually is. Oh also casual and blatant anti-blackness is verbalized by a character at least once. I’m pretty sure the racism has a metaphorical place in the framework of Dracula’s storytelling, but I couldn’t tell you what it is because I am not going to bother putting myself in the mindset of a racist white Victorian man. This is the mindset I am trying to unlearn. So: read with caution, critical thinking, and the double knowledge that even as the narrators are meant to be unreliable, so too is the author himself.
Finally, regarding interpretation: so personally I’m running with the opinion that Dracula is, at least partly, a metaphor for Stoker’s own queerness and internal conflict re: being queer, being closeted, and watching the torture his friend Wilde went through when the wealthy father of Wilde’s lover set out to ruin his life for daring to love his son. Whether this is true or not (I think it’s true, but hey, that’s analysis, baby), you can’t understand Dracula without knowing the social context for it (as with all literature--the author isn’t dead, not if you want to know what they were saying), and the social context for it is:
- Stoker was friends with Wilde, growing only closer after Wilde was outed
- Wilde was outed, as I said, because the father of his lover was wealthy and powerful and full of the most virulent kind of hatred. This is especially interesting because of how many rich, powerful parents just straight up die in Dracula and leave the main characters with no legal issues and a ridiculous amount of money, which is the diametrical opposite of what happened to Wilde
- Stoker idolized his mentor Henry Irving. Irving was a paradigm of unconventional relationships and self-built family, in a world where divorcees and children born out of wedlock were things to be whispered about in scandalized tones, not people to love and embrace. Irving was also famous for thriving off of manipulating those close to him and pitting friends against each other. Given the painstakingly vivid description Stoker provides for his titular vampire and how closely it matches Irving’s own appearance and demeanor, Irving was widely understood even at the time of writing to be the chief inspiration for the character of Dracula
- the book is dedicated to Stoker’s close friend, Hall Caine, a fellow writer whose stories centered around love triangles and accumulation of sins which threaten to ruin everything, only to be redeemed by the simple act of human goodness
- Stoker was Irish, but not Catholic (he was a Protestant of the Church of Ireland, a division of the Anglican Church). This may come as a surprise when you read the book and see All The Catholicism, Just Everywhere. Religion is actually a key theme in Dracula--most of the main characters start out your typical Good Victorian Anglican Skeptics, and need to learn through a trial-by-fire to trust in the rituals and relics of the Catholic Church to save them from Dracula’s evilness. Which is interesting. Because not only do these characters start off as dismissive towards these “superstitions” (in the same way they dismiss the “superstitions” of the peasant class on the outskirts of Dracula’s domain), but the narrative telling us “these superstitions are actually true!” cannot be trusted, when you know the author’s own beliefs.
(Bram Stoker is not saying what his characters are saying. This is the first and most important rule to remember, if you want to figure out Dracula.)
- The second-most famous character in the novel, after Dracula himself, is Van Helsing, whose first name is Abraham. Note that “Bram” is a declension of Abraham. What does this mean? I legitimately have no idea. But it’d be a weird coincidence, right? Like what even is the thought process there? “Oh, yeah, what should I name this character that comes in, makes overtly homoerotic statements willy nilly, and encourages everyone to throw rationality out the window and stake some vampires using the Eucharist? hmmmm how about ‘Me’”
ok wait FINAL final note: you legitimately do not have to care about any of this. I love Dracula because it has gay vibes and I love trying to figure it out, like an archaeologist sifting through sentence structure to find fragments that match the patterns I already know from historical research; but that’s not why you should love Dracula. The book itself is just straight up fun to read. Like I said, Stoker absolutely nails the exact vibe of spookiness that I love, the eerieness and elegance and vague but vivid fear of a full moon crossed by clouds at midnight. The characters are intriguing, especially Quincey gosh I love Quincey Morris but they’re very,, sweet? if i can say that about people i, personally, suspect of murder? They come together and protect each other against the terrible threat that is Dracula, and you don’t get that half as often as I’d like in horror media. I don’t even know if Dracula could qualify as “horror” proper, because it’s not about the squeamish creeping discomfort that “horror” is meant to evoke, it’s not the appeal of staring at a train wreck--it’s not horrifying. It’s eerie. It’s Gothic. It has spires and vampires and found family and cowboys, and to be honest, I don’t know what could be better than that.

An Uncomfortable Encounter
Child of the Nein (Molly & Child!Reader)
At first glance people would say that you and Molly were almost glued to the hip, but that’s not necessarily true. Some evenings Molly would go off to do some "grownup activities" as you called it, you technically knew what they were and you knew they weren’t the smartest things in the world to be doing but he was a his own person and you were a kid so you didn’t feel you had the power to tell him what to do. If he somehow ended up in jail the next day, which has happened several times before, you’d just help to sweet talk him out of it with your childish charms. On those evenings you mostly stuck around at the inns tavern, providing music for them and usually earning a free meal as thanks. You were also very aware of the types of crowds that could gather not always being the safest so you’d always have to be on your toes, and sure you could say you had the rest of the Mighty Nein looking out for you too but they sometimes had their own set of activites planned out leaving you by your lonesome. On one such evening after putting on a grand performance, if you do say so yourself, the clerk at the tavern you were staying at gifted you with a simple meal before heading off to deal with some of the other patrons, you wasted no time and dig in.
"That was quite the entertaining performance you put on child." An elven man says taking the seat across your little table. You instantly feel suspicious of him but decide to play along a bit to fully sus out the situation.
"Why thank you sir. I’m glad you enjoyed it." You put on a large smile.
"You’re welcome. So is there a reason you’re here all alone?" You did not like where this line of questioning was going so you slowly start shuffling over to leave.
"That’s where you’re wrong, I’m not alone I have friends around here." You half lied, taking a quick look to see if anyone from the Nein had returned from one of their escapades. Unfortunately they had not.
"Well that’s too bad I wouldn’t mind taking you home with me, you could even do a… private preformance for me?" Aaaannnnnddd that was your cue to quickly think of an excuse to leave. (Someone said something like this to me at work once, I noped on out of that conversation)
"I’m sorry but I really should be going, I just remembered I’d promised one of my friends that I was gonna join them to do some shopping." You spoke a little quickly but tried to sound as unconcerned as possible. You get up to leave, only managing a few steps before you feel a grip on your wrist, oh how you really wished people weren’t so smashed up to notice your discomfort with the elf.
"Now now youngling, there’s no need to hurry off I’m sure your friend won’t mind, you can simply tell them you were tired and went to bed." His tone was a little too… suggestive for your liking.
"I-I don’t feel very comfortable with this." You hated how powerless you suddenly sounded and felt, your mind drawing a blank as you just try to tug your wrist out of the creeps grip.
"It’s ok little one, I coul-" His sentence cuts short as does his grip loosen on you, you stumble forward a bit once you’ve freed yourself. Looking over your shoulder you let out a quiet sigh of relief as a very angered looking Molly now has the elf's own wrist in a tight grip.
"You could what sorry?" Molly, despite placing a smile on his face, barely hid the fury that dripped from his voice.
"I, uhhhh, nothing." The elven man shakes a little.
"No no, please do enlighten me as to what you were about to tell mine kid, I dare ya." Did… did his accent just get thicker? Actually now that you had a better look he seemed different, you couldn’t pinpoint what it was but there was something different. If you hadn’t known any better you’d almost think Molly was someone else entirely. Molly(?) then leans in and whispers something to the elf, whatever it was it made the mans face turn paler then it already was and when Molly(?) let go of his wrist he hastily stumbled out of the tavern.
"You alright?" He sounded like himself again, coming down from whatever just happened.
"I… think I’m gonna turn in for the night." You say, still a little shaken from the whole encounter.
"Alright." Molly then makes his way up to the rooms but pauses when you don’t follow. "Aren’tcha comin'?" You shake yourself off a bit and proceed to trail along beside him to the rooms.
"Thanks for helping me back there. I'm glad you showed up when you did, but you know you don’t have to stay."
"Yeah, I know. But I’m gonna anyways." He shots you a side smirk, you playfully roll your eyes back.
"Well, so much for whatever your plans were." You finally reach the room you were staying in and make your way inside.
"Look there’s a lot of towns with a lot of people just waiting to get themselves a piece of this." Molly gives a dramatic pose, making you giggle at his antics. "But they’re just gonna have to wait because there’s one person who takes priority over all else."
"It’s Caleb! I knew it!" You joke causing the both of you to laugh.
"But seriously," he says after calming down, "there’s no way I’m leaving ya by your lonesome after that."
"Thanks. Oh! By the way, you came to my rescue pretty quick, which was great but how did you know to come check on me?" You ask starting to settle yourself into the little inn bed.
"I see many things with mine eyes." There was that thicker accent again, even Molly blinked a bit in surprise at his words. You tilt your head in confusion.
"What the heck was that?"
"I’m… not sure, sounded cool though."
"You’re so weird." You chuckle a bit at his comment.
"But isn't that what makes me so great. Besides if I’m weird so are you."
"You got me there." Now having properly settled into the bed, Molly walks over sitting next to you. He starts to make up a fun little story while you listen and let yourself slowly drift off into a peaceful sleep.

this is probably me projecting, but i really like the idea of steve having some type of anxiety? and people don’t notice bc he’s so friendly and charismatic, it’s smth he’s struggled with from an early age, his parents just dismissing it. and it gets so much worse bc of what he went through, like beforehand he might not be able to make calls or talk with strangers/go to the doctor, but as it gets worse he struggles to leave the house or be alone in public places ;( (sry this is heavy vhndnd)
lmao lets project together
Under the cut for pretty heavy descriptions of anxiety.
Based on me bc when is it not when it comes to this boy :/
-
Steve didn’t actually like parties.
Well, he was fine at them in his King Steve days, when he knew everyone, and everyone knew him.
He could go to any group and have people to talk to, and be fine.
But now, now people ignored him. And people didn’t care.
He would find himself standing alone in a crowded room, find himself against a wall with no one to talk to, no one to even look at without being weird.
He started feeling too aware of himself. too conscious of everything he was doing that was odd.
He checked his watch.
He’d been standing there for three minutes.
He finished his beer. Maybe getting drunk would help, make him feel less like everyone was staring at him. Make it easier for him to go up to someone, and just, talk.
He checked his watch.
One minute had passed.
He felt like his face was too tight, like his cheeks were on fire.
He set his beer down.
And raced off to the bathroom.
He locked himself in there, tugging his sweater off, running the cold water, splashing some on his face.
He looked at himself in the mirror.
“You are fine. You are fine.” He took a deep breath.
And went home.
-
Pastrami sandwich with fries and an extra pickle to go. Pastrami sandwich with fries and an extra pickle to go. Pastrami sandwich with fries and an extra pickle to go.
Steve was standing third in line at the diner, practicing his order under his breath.
He had the right amount of money counted out. Knew just what to say.
Pastrami sandwich with fries and an extra pickle to go. Pastrami sandwich with fries and an extra pickle to go.
“Hi! What can I get for you today?” He smiled at the cashier.
“Could I please get uh, a, uh pastrami with fries and an extra pickle. To go, please.”
“And what’s the name on that?”
“Um, Steve?” His face burned.
The cashier smiled at him, didn’t pay any mind as she punched in the order.
“That’s 8.25.” He handed over the bills, crumbled in his hand, and a little wet from his clammy palms.
She gave him his 75 cents, and he fucking dropped it.
He scrambled to get the three quarters, but one was fucking rolling away.
“Oops! Sorry about that!” She giggled as Steve chased the quarter, snatching it up and shoving them in his pocket.
“That’s okay.” He retreated to the side, not making eye contact with anyone.
So fucking STUPID. Scrambling like that for a QUARTER. Must’ve looked like an IDIOT.
The extra pickle wasn’t in his order. He didn’t ask for it.
-
It’s just school.
Steve was laying in bed. His alarm had gone off seven minutes ago.
First step: sit up.
He laid there.
Sit up.
He laid there.
C’mon, Steve. Just sit up. It’s easy.
He sat up.
Okay, good job, Steve. Now head to the bathroom.
He slid out of bed. He talked himself through his whole routine, congratulating himself as he went.
He drove to school, letting himself sit in the parking lot for as long as he could stand.
He hated being late. Pictured walking into class after it had begun, all those eyes on him, the teacher making some smartass comment.
He watched the clock on his dashboard.
He had two minutes.
Okay. Time for school.
He continued sitting.
If you don’t leave NOW you’re gonna be late.
And he hated being late.
He watched the minutes tick by.
He was late.
-
Steve was halfway to the lunchroom when he realized he had no one to sit with.
He had Tommy had gotten in that fight, and Nancy was with Jonathan, and he didn’t have any fucking friends.
He thought for a moment about going and sitting with someone he didn’t know, maybe perching next to the band kids or the drama nerds.
He was stopped dead in the hallway.
The idea of just, just sitting, and introducing himself, made his stomach churn.
He continued walking, peeking into the cafeteria.
He had to buy his lunch, had to go through the line and pick everything to eat.
He looked at the long line, at Tommy and Carol already in it.
He made his way to the gym instead.
He sat on the bleachers by himself until lunch was over.
-
He was at a party again.
He wasn’t sure why.
He fucking hates parties.
But Billy had asked him to come with him, so they drove out to the city, to go to a shitty frat party and Steve was miserable.
Billy made friends easy. Just walked up to someone and put on that easy charm, and that was that.
And so Steve would be left to his own devices, would be left to skirt along the walls and pretend he was anywhere else.
He couldn't just cling to Billy all night, Billy didn’t need a stupid little shadow to follow him all night.
“Hey.” He looked over, smiling at the girl leaning against the wall next to him.
“Hi.”
“I’m Lorraine.”
“Steve.”
“Where are you from?”
“Hawkins. It’s a small town. A few hours away.”
“Oh, cool.” They stood for a moment. Steve kicked himself.
He didn’t know how to keep talking, how to continue this.
“Um, where are you from?” She smiled weakly at him. Fucking idiot. Ask questions.
“I’m from Cincinnati. I got to school out here.”
“That’s cool. I applied to school here.” Stop making everything about you!
“You’re still in high school?”
“Yeah. Senior. Year. Senior year.” Why the FUCK did you say it like that. She smiled at him, nodding along. He took a swig of his beer.
“Well, nice talking to you, Steve.” She walked away. Steve thunked his head against the wall.
Can’t even have ONE fucking conversation without sounding like a fucking idiot. She thinks you’re stupid and everyone here thinks you’re stupid and-
“What’s a pretty thing like you doin’ in a place like this?” Billy was leaning over him, one arm braced on the wall over his head.
“Having the time of my life.” Billy pouted at him.
“You okay?” Steve gave him a little half smile.
“Just tired.”
“Let’s bounce, then.”
“No, you’re having fun. I don’t wanna ruin your night.”
“You’ve never ruined a damn thing. Let’s head out. We can do something fun. Something just the two of us.” Billy kissed his cheek.
But Steve was feeling too much, too much.
He followed Billy to the car, fidgeting with his hands the whole way back to Hawkins.
“What’s up, Baby?” Steve didn’t know what to say. How to say it.
He wanted to go home, and curl in his bed, and not be touched, not be spoken to for the rest of the night.
He felt like he was outside of his body, completely disconnected from his physicality.
“Hey, talk to me.”
“I don’t, I don’t know how.”
“What’s happening in your brain?”
“Nothing. Everything.”
“Help me understand you.”
“I don’t, is it okay if we don’t have sex tonight?”
“Of course that’s okay, Sweet Thing. We can just cuddle if you want.”
“Um, thank you.” You need to tell him you don’t want to cuddle. Just say it. Just tell him you don’t want that either.
“Something’s still wrong.”
“I, um, I don’t really wanna cuddle, either.” Billy was quiet.
“You know, you can say, if you’re mad at me.” His voice was hard, rough.
“I’m not mad, I promise. It’s, sometimes when I get all like this, I don’t really wanna be touched in anyway. I’m sorry. That’s selfish.”
“It’s not selfish. And that’s okay. You tell me when you do or don’t want touch. I know sometimes it makes you feel better.”
“It depends on which part of my brain is screaming. Sometimes touch is bad, and sometimes I just want a hug.”
“I love you, and I wanna do right by you.”
“I know, and thank you. Sometimes it’s hard to bring stuff up, though. It’s like my mouth just can’t make the words.”
“That’s alright. Is it easier if I ask you before, like to be clear?”
“Yes. That would be way easier.”
“Okay, then that’s what I’ll do. Easy.” He smiled over at Steve. Like it was easy.
Steve guesses maybe this was easy. This was something his mind didn’t need to spiral about.
And of course, it would anyway. When did his mind ever listen to him? But at the end of the day, Billy would be there with a nice smile, and a bright laugh, and a warm hug, or no hug at all.
And he’d never had anyone offer to help him like this, to take his needs into account, so maybe this could help.
He took a breath, smiling back at Billy.
