Rereading Yesterday Upon the Stair (BNHA, in case it wasn't obvious) and I'm just past provisional license exam and Midoriya's /conversation/ with Bakugo.

I forget the deeply warm and fuzzy feelings I get with this story. Not the ones that come with how great it is and the heartstrings it pulls with all the plot-relevent shit and how well written it is. That's a given. I don't forget that.

The queer platonic stuff.

Watching Midoriya's and Todoroki's relationship develop makes me feel so many things. They're close. They cling to each other. They are not romantically interested in each other and they have a conversation about it. They aren't interested in dating, but they are interested in not changing anything, in sharing a bed, hanging on each other, and trusting each other with panic attacks, secrets, and advice that would be out of bounds from anyone else.

This is the best fucking representation for everything I have ever wanted out of a queer platonic relationship. During the years since I last read this, I have convinced myself that /it doesn't matter/ that something like this makes no sense and it would be so much easier to just date someone if I want physical (nonsexual) intimacy, or not date someone because I can handle not being close with anyone at all.

But this is what I fucking crave.

I almost have to stop reading because it hurts so good how easy the author puts it into words. They're fictional characters, but, that's what representation is. That's how we see things we don't experience, or things we do experience, that's how we learn about the diversity of the human experience. Through fiction. Fiction written so well people care to read/watch it.

What the author gives these two fictional characters gives /me/ the words to describe something so important to me and I CANT STOP HURTING because of it.
