pairing | itadori yuuji x fushiguro megumi
content |Â fluff, light angst, humor. birthday fic for the birthday boy. yuuji has adhd and i will die on that hill
word count |Â 1.7k
form |Â oneshot
originally posted |Â 23 december 2020
author's note |Â yes i wrote this because i got back into knitting. i know iâm a day late for fushiâs birthday but shh. anyway itafushi brainrot
Itadori hyperfixates on knitting. Shenanigans ensue.Â
It started out innocent enough.Â
Gojou had decided to treat them to shopping in the city, something that excited Kugisaki and Itadori beyond reason. Fushiguro thought that those two would probably faint from excitement if their sensei ever indulged them in a trip to Roppongi, as he'd promised them so many months ago, even though he knew fully well it was little more than a tourist trap.
Then they passed by a fabric store, and Itadori had stopped cold in his tracks at the sight of the multicolored yarns in the window. Peeking over a teetering pile of bags and boxes he was holding for Kugisaki, Itadori drew so close to the window his breath misted up the glass.
"What is it, Itadori?" Kugisaki huffed. She turned around and barely suppressed a laugh when she saw him staring. "Are you a grandmother now? Come on, I still need to pick up new stockings."
"No, it's justâ" Itadori glanced back at her, wide eyed. "You know, my grandfather taught me to knit once, when I was really little. I hadn't given it much thought sinceâŠ" His sentence trailed off. "Anyway, it's getting colder now, right? Plus Christmas is coming up. Maybe I should pick it up again."
Fushiguro shrugged. "As long as you don't go crazy. Like that time with the stamps."
"Listen â those were limited edition stampsâ"
"And the historical romance movies."
"How did you â come on, Pride and Prejudice is a classicâ"
"And the bullet journals?"
"I didn't even get that many of those! Gojou-sensei was the one who recommended those to keep track of stuff."
"You had to empty one of your manga shelves just to store all the stationary you bought!"
"Okay, I get it!" Itadori held up one of his hands in a gesture of surrender, nearly dropping Kugisaki's things in the process. "In and out. All I want to do is look."
But that was not all he wanted to do. Itadori wanted to touch the yarn, and then he was ogling the seasonal colors, and then he was flipping through pattern books, and then he was discussing different wool blends with the lady working there, and then he was picking out bamboo circular knitting needles, and then he was ordering cones of yarn in different colors, and by the time they staggered out of the fabric store, Fushiguro was ready to collapse.Â
The way home was just as bad, if not worse. Itadori talked Gojou's ear off the whole time about different stitches he wanted to try and projects he was going to start. "Oh, by the way, Fushiguro!"
Fushiguro turned at the mention of his name. "What is it?"
"Would you prefer a scarf or a hat? I picked out this blue acrylic-wool blend to match your eyes, but I'm not sure which one you would prefer."
Fushiguro blinked at him. "Aâ a scarf, I guess."
Itadori gave him a thumbs up and then went right back to talking a mile a minute. Fushiguro wasn't sure if he should be paying attention or not. He glanced at Kugisaki, who was in a world of her own looking at the souvenirs and new accessories she had bought with Gojou's credit card.Â
Gojou himself seemed only mildly interested in what Itadori was saying. He seemed to be thinking of something else, but he did seem to be making an effort to show his student that he was listening.
Fushiguro sighed. He really was hopeless. "Itadori, tell me about the patterns you want to try."
Itadori turned to him, and Fushiguro let himself take in the radiant glow of his eyes for one selfish moment, before training his gaze on the floor of the train.
(Was it too much to ask for him to stop being so bright all the time?)
The excitement could barely keep its way out of Itadori's voice as he described the different ways to knit a sock, and Fushiguro smiled a little, careful not to let Gojou see it. He would never let him live it down.Â
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Â
"Fushigurooooooooooooooo!"
He doesn't have to yell. The walls are so thin between our rooms anyway. "What?" he called back, a little quieter.Â
"I need your help! Come here!"
Fushiguro sighed and closed the book he'd been reading. It was a hefty tome on marine biology he'd picked up the week before. And in that week, Itadori had probably knit enough to clothe a small country.Â
Well, that was an exaggeration. But he really had been spending all his time working on some project or another, and Fushiguro was mentally counting down until his inevitable burnout.Â
He opened the door to Itadori's room and poked his head inside. "Whatâ oh."
Itadori grinned sheepishly at him. He was in the middle of a pile of tangled yarn, probably partially tangled in it himself, seated on the floor. "Um, I could use another pair of hands."
Fushiguro sighed for as long as he could, feigning annoyance.Â
(He really didn't mind.)Â
"Thanks, man." Itadori wriggled his way out of his multicolored bonds and started picking at the strands. "I promise it's not as bad as it looks." What it looked was pretty bad.
"I just forgot to organize them when I was done with a color. I had just been putting them in a bin under my bed."
Really? Not a blender?
Fushiguro said nothing as he worked at a thick knot.Â
"Brat, do something about him."
His eyes went wide as Fushiguro whipped his head around to see a mouth formed on Itadori's cheek, speaking in a familiarly cold voice. "He's driving me insane."
Itadori slapped a hand over Sukuna's mouth automatically. "You were already insane," he muttered under his breath.
The mouth opened again on his hand. "All you think about are your projects. If I wanted to possess a grandmother, I would have done so. Brat, break his knitting needles, throw out his yarn, something. I know you find it irritating too."Â
Itadori pointedly ignored Sukuna's voice, but for a moment Fushiguro was sure he saw something flicker in his eyes â something like disappointment, or maybe regret. His smile seemed a little too tight, his gaze too fixed.
Ever since he had come back to life, Fushiguro had noticed that Itadori wasn't quite the same. He never wanted to talk about it, either, besides the few words they'd exchanged before the Goodwill Event.Â
But these days, something about Itadori Yuuji seemed a little unsure. He seemed harder, cracked around the edges like broken glass. He was smiling the same smile as ever, but something in his eyes told Fushiguro that he didn't mean it.Â
Fushiguro imagined that he was untangling Itadori. Maybe it was that he didn't trust him enough, wasn't close enough to him, didn't care as much about him as Fushiguro did him, but there was something twisted up inside Itadori that he didn't let anyone touch.Â
(He would never admit it, but Fushiguro wished that he could. Sort through the strands one by one, with care and with gentleness, until he was all smoothed out.)
"Itadori," Fushiguro said quietly.Â
"Huh?" By the time he turned around to meet his eyes, Itadori had already masked his brief slippage of control.Â
"I don't think it's irritating."
Itadori laughed a little. "No, it's okay. You don't have to feel bad, I know I'm going a little overboardâŠ"
"I'm serious."
He fell silent and ran his fingers through his soft pink hair. Again, there it was â a flash of something between disappointment and regret. "I just⊠it feels nice to make stuff for other people, I guess." And there he went again. Always other people first.Â
(When would he realize other people worried about him too?)
Fushiguro didn't say anything else, but silently picked a piece of yarn off of Itadori's hoodie.Â
"Oh! That's right!" Itadori suddenly stood up and rummaged through his bag. "It's your birthday tomorrow, isn't it?"
It was. Fushiguro hadn't told anyone about it though â there wasn't much he hated more than other people fussing over him on his birthday. The attention, the coddling praise, the presents⊠all of it was too much.Â
Who could haveâ
The winking face of his sensei flashed across his mind. Of course.
"Here you go, before I forget to give it to you." Itadori handed him a folded blue scarf. "It's your birthday present!"Â
Fushiguro took the scarf gingerly. It seemed to tingle in his hands, and he could almost feel the attention and time that Itadori had put into it. It had a complicated-looking cable pattern that must have taken him forever.Â
"Do youâ do you like it?"
He glanced up at Itadori, whose usually sunny face was clouded over with insecurity. Ah, I must have made a face by accident.Â
Fushiguro answered by putting the scarf on. It even smelled like him. If he breathed in deeply, he could smell Itadori's fabric softener and the scent of the outdoors that always seemed to cling to him â wood and soft grass andâ
Stop smelling the scarf.
"I like it," he managed. He couldn't make eye contact with Itadori â if he did, he was afraid his careful mask of casual indifference might break and reveal something much more embarrassing.
"You do? Oh, that's good." Somehow Itadori didn't sound very convinced.
Fushiguro risked looking into his eyes. "I really love this," he stated firmly. "Honestly, I'm glad you decided to start knitting again." He paused a moment before going a step further, grasping at the tangled strands around him and within the boy who stood before him. "I think your grandfather would be really proud of you."
Itadori blinked in surprise. "Oh." A wide grin spread across his face. "Well, I'm glad you like it!"
Fushiguro gestured hopelessly to the mountain of tangled yarn.
"Ah, right."
An easy silence fell as they untangled the rest of the yarn. The warmth of the scarf around Fushiguro's neck was grounding, and reminded him of the warmth of the boy next to him.Â
Itadori scooted closer to him and rested his head on Fushiguro's shoulder, surprising him. Neither of them said a word as they picked at knots of yarn.Â
"Thank you," muttered Itadori under his breath.Â
Maybe birthdays weren't so bad after all.Â

Re-reading Yu-Gi-Oh (part 1)
So... I bitch a lot about Yu-Gi-Oh. When I donât complain about it online and accuse it of scamming kid me, I ridicule the story and the many holes in the game rules.
But I actually used to love this manga with a burning passion. I bought it because I was fixated with the cards, but instead I got traumatized. In an awesome way.
So I decided to re-read the manga about the possibly best known TCG game in the world and see how it started, how it evolved, and if the story still holds up.
So, Iâm reading chapter 1, and we have to talk about the art.
The art style at the beginning was chunky and sometimes downright awkward. But it was still very enjoyable. The characters were very expressive and the tone of the style could swing quickly from wacky and rubberhose like to eerie and brooding depending on the situation. It makes you forgive odd-looking legs and hands that becomes massive. It is clear that it is someoneâs first project.
So, this is Yugi. Possibly the cutest and meekest punk kid who ever lived. Yugi is not an outdoor person, so he spends most of his recesses inside the classroom. He brings a ton of games to school, hoping that someone might wanna play with him, but all of his classmates prefer to go outside and do stuff like basketball. And being a short teenager who practically looks like a little boy means he is not a desirable team mate in any ball game.
This is totally just a theory, but I think Yugiâs signature punk hairstyle is his way of trying to look a bit more edgy to try do something about his cute appearance.
... Yeah, itâs not working. He still looks like a fricking Gummibear.
As Yugi is minding his own business, we meet two familiar faces.
... their names are actually Jounouchi and and Honda, but most people know them by their American names, so I will just refer to them as Joey and Tristan.Â
Itâs so odd to see their old designs. Especially Joey since his hair is not as big and square like as it is today. And what the fuck is up with Tristanâs face?!
Anyways, while Yugi decides to play with the most valuable game in his collection, Joey and Tristan decides to mess with him. They make an interesting bully duo where Tristan is more loud and is clearly having more fun bothering Yugi who is too short to put up a fight while Joey seems more stoic and is almost annoyed by Yugi for being a pushover. He even tells Yugi to be a man about it and at least try and take the game back from him by force. So while Tristian just enjoys picking on Yugi for the heck of it, Joey seems to sincerely dislike Yugi.
Luckily, Yugi doesnât have trouble with bullies as such since he is friends with Tea who is so tough that she actually intimidate Joey and Tristan with sheer attitude. Thatâs actually impressive.
... A shame she is most of the time just the damsel in distress.
Tea is the only person in class who hangs out with Yugi since they have been friends since kindergarten. And she doesnât mind staying inside at all since a ton of the guys are jerks who only wanna play basketball with the girls since it gives them an opportunity to look up their skirts.
Yeah, there is a lot of that in this manga. Most of the males in this series are kinda horny. the humor often relies on it, which downright creepy at times.
Even Yugi finds basketball more appealing now that he knows about the skirt-looking.
Lewd panty-shot aside, I think it is a nice detail that Yugi is as pathetic as the rest of the dudes in school, he probably just doesnât have the courage to try get a look. It makes him less of a pure hero.
Altight, letâs stop talking about Yugi being a closet creep:/
Yugi shows Tea what his greatest treasure is: A LITTERAL treasure.
Yep, this is the famous Millennium Puzzle, practically the mascot of the series. Itâs an ancient puzzle found in an pyramid that Yugi got from his grandfather who runs a game store. The puzzle is extremely valuable, both because it is from ancient Egypt and it is made of gold.
... And Yugi brings it to school where Tristan and Joey pushes him around...
Yugi has been struggling with the puzzle for eight years despite being a game nerd. Even though it is a blow to his not that big ego, he keeps trying to solve it since the box says that if he will be granted a wish if he manage to solve the puzzle.
Meanwhile, Joey and Tristan makes the fatal mistake of talking about picking on Yugi while Ushio is close enough to hear it. He is the schoolâs hall monitor and rumor has it that he is downright psychotic and is feared by most of the students. Heck, some of the teachers are uncomfortable being near him.
And this guy has decided to become Yugiâs bodyguard, something poor Yugi doesnât take serious when Ushio tells him that.
Joey and Tristan are unaware how screwed they are as they keep having their fun bothering Yugi without our hero knowing it. Joey managed to steal a piece from the puzzle box before Tea interrupted, and Joey decides to throw the piece in the schoolâs swimming pool so that the puzzle becomes worthless as it can no longer be solved. I gotta say, that is pretty twisted and surprisingly sneaky of a teen bully. Itâs downright creepy.
Speaking of creepy...
This is Yugiâs grandfather Sugoroku. He runs the game shop that Yugi lives in and is a living encyclopedia when it comes to games of all sorts.
And he canât just tell Tea that she has grown. He HAS to mention her breasts as well. Da fuck is up with all the sex talk and panty shots in this series?! Does Kazuki Takahashi(the author) have some sort of issues?!
Yugiâs grandfather notices that Yugi is STILL trying to solve the ancient puzzle and warns Yugi that the puzzle is supposedly cursed. That the archeologist and his team died mysteriously shortly after finding the puzzle and the last one to kick the bucket said something about a âshadow gameâ with his dying breath.
That however makes Yugi even more determent to solve the puzzle. If it really is magical then chances are that he will be granted a wish by completing the puzzle.
Personally, I would call the nearest museum and sell the dang thing before it could kill me with itâs insane cursed magic.
Speaking of insane, Yugi realizes that he should have taken Ushio serious when he said he would be his bodyguard.
Yep, the SOB has dragged Joey and Tristan behind the school building and kicked their asses through and through. Tristan is in so much pain that he is barely conscious and Joey is so pummeled that all he can do is watch as Yugi shows how surprisingly brave he is as he demands that Ushio leaves them alone, even refer to them as his friends and that they were just trying to make him a man.
Yeah, picking on someone because they are too timid and demanding that they fight you despite knowing that they hat violence is the right way to make someone a man. Hip hooray for toxic masculinity!
Yugi defending Joey and Tristan results in him getting a beating as well.
One of the interesting things about early Yu-Gi-Oh is the raw and ugly violence. We talking dirty violence where people get kneed in the chest and kicked while they lie down. Not just off-screen, we witness our heroes be pummeled, making the series a bit more gritty and frightening. And this series is not for those with a weak stomach.
Joey is stunned, partly because Yugi defends him, but way more of the short spiky-haired kidâs courage. But Yugi is anything but afraid. After all, he refused to fight Joey, but he still tried to get the puzzle back(not successfully, but he made an effort instead of just squirming).
After Ushio finished kicking poor Yugiâs ass, he tells him to bring him money as âpaymentâ for his âbodyguard service.â And we talking 200000 yen, thatâs a lot of dough.
Ushio even pulls a god damn knife(!), just to show how fucking crazy he is!
Yugi goes home to see if he has money enough to pay Ushio, but he only has 1656 yen. In frustration, Yugi decides to solve his unsolvable puzzle, just to think of something else than the brute with a knife who is waiting for him at school.
But what do you know? Yugi finally get the hang of it. He sees that some of the pieces just needs to be rotated differently and he finish it in a couple of minutes.
... Or he WOULD have. He finally sees that one of the pieces are missing, breaking his heart and making his awful day even worse.
But Grandpa has the last piece. He tells Yugi that one of his friends from school had found it and asked him to give it to Yugi. And that he was soaked despite it not raining.
As Yugi is happy about being able to finish the puzzle and returns to his room, his grandpa thinks about that the boy was Joey and that he asked him not to tell Yugi it was him that came with the puzzle piece. Joey also told him about Ushio blackmailing Yugi, so Grandpa secretly puts money in Yugiâs schoolbag so he wonât get in trouble.
And this is where it getâs freaky.
Yep, here it is. the iconic moment Yugi gets blessed by the puzzle so that he can turn into the split personality we refer to as Yami which is Japanese for âDarkâ.
Yugi then calls Ushio and tells him to meet him outside school at midnight.
Ushio is surprised as he sees that Yugi is wearing some sort of costume and that he looks way more cocky than before.
Yugi tells Ushio that he has the money he demands, but he has twice the amount. Fricking 400000 yen!
But Yugi only âowesâ 200000 to Ushio, so he suggest that they play about them in a dark and twisted game.
Yugi and Ushio take turns stabbing the stack of money placed on their hand. They have to stab hard enough to take more than one single bill. The winner is the guy with most yen bills.
As they play, Ushio seems to be winning... but when it is his turn, he can feel that his hand is way too eager to stab.
This is not just a weird-ass game. This is a âshadow gameâ, a game that shows your true nature. Ushioâs greed is now collected in his hand, and he so desperately want to win the game that he canât control it. He realizes that if he stabs, he wonât be able to control his strength and he will penetrate his own hand. Ushio has to either A) give up and keep his hand or B) win the game with one hand less.
Ushio picks C.
Ushio tries to kill Yugi, but that was a mistake. The puzzle has made him super human and he leaps from the ground, evading the knife.
And cheating in a shadow game is a big no-go as the host of the game has authority to punish you.
Yami Yugi curses Ushio with âIllusion of Greedâ, meaning he will be doomed to live in an imaginary world where he sees nothing but money everywhere.
Next morning, he is still outside the schoolyard like a drooling idiot who yells about all of his imaginary money.
Yugi has no memory of what happened but is glad he no longer has to be worried of Ushio who is a harmless nutcase. Not only that, he has finally finished his puzzle... and Joey offers him his friendship.
And that was the start of the horror manga turned card game commercial. It has a lot of charm, is very eerie and I think I prefer Yami Yugiâs first look that is more child like. making him look downright creepy.
This retrospective will continue ASAP.
Till then, Iâm Waezi2, and thanks for wasting time with me.

an inconvenient crush // kenma kozume x reader (1/2)
Authorâs Note: A new story?? SO SOON?? Thank you for all the love for my previous Kuroo story, it meant the world to me. I write for myself primarily, yes, but it brings me SO MUCH JOY to know that my words reach you. It helps with the motivation to put them out more often. Thank you. This story is very close to my heart because Iâm a gamer, although I donât stream. Iâm more like Kenma though, personality wise. Haha.
Word count: 5k+
Pairing: YouTuber! Kenma Kozume x Streamer! Reader
Summary:Â YouTuber Kozume Kenma has had the biggest crush on Twitch Streamer, (s/n) (y/n), who in actuality simps heavily after Kenma's secret YouTube persona, puddinghead0.
What happens when their paths cross?
Kuroo is honestly tired of Kenma's second-guessing, and (y/n) is a bit of a crackhead.
Warnings: unrequited love, one-sided crush, slight angst, pining, crackhead reader, internet bullying, slang, gaming references, haikyuu manga spoilers, fluff
C h a p t e r O n e : puddinghead0
Kozume Kenma suddenly turned existential when his eyes shifted to his phone screen for the 12th time in ten minutes.
Was he always doing this? Was he always obsessed with his phone to a point where he'd constantly check for notifications? Did this mean he was deeply lonely on the inside and wanted approval from people on a virtual platform, which meant that the approval was also virtual and none of it was real? Did it mean that he craved to nullify the growing void in his chest by distracting himself with a black mirror that showcased light that could permanently impair his sight?
He let out a breath and forced himself not to look at his phone. He didn't care. It didn't matter. That's what he always said.
"Hey!" His classmate/room-mate screamed from the entrance to his flat, "Are you watching her stream? Posted two minutes ago!"
His phone was definitely slow. He had been checking his phone but there was no notification. Letting out a breath, and giving himself a mental reason to actually check his phone, Kenma opened the notifications tab to see the one notification he had kept his eye out for had been buried under ridiculous facebook notifs.
An inconvenient crush, that's what he told himself whenever he looked at you. You were a streamer, a bit different from what he did on YouTube because you were primarily on Twitch. There were reaction videos of you on YouTube, which was where he found you, but damnâhow could one be pretty while rage-quitting a game? It was abnormal. Nothing about you was normal; college student/Twitch streamer, an apparent baker in your mother's bakery, game reviewer for Sony, and you were insanely cute.
"She's getting to that part," his roommate commented from behind Kenma's back, while Kenma really just wanted to watch the video in peace, "Shit, she's gonna cry."
You did cry, quite a few times, and too easily if he could add. You cried at the ending of God of War, you cried to The Last of Us (which made sense, but you were perhaps just bawling throughout the entire game), you cried in a game called Detroit: Become Human, you cried far too easily, but you never really quit. He loved how passionate you were about games, and it was the sort of passion he could completely understand.
"Oh shit," You said in the video, your eyes scanning all over the game screen, "What's happening? What's happening?"
Kenma chuckled at how cute you were, god, you were killing him. You looked worried, and he could visibly see a sweat drop on your forehead, but you were so focused that it didn't matter. Suddenly, there was a screaming sound from the game you were playing, and your eyes popped open as wide as they possibly could and you just sat there, unmoving. He loved how you never squealed or made any loud reactions, except when you were in a fight with a difficult boss, but whenever something traumatic happened, you just froze and sunk it all in. You were currently playing the second part of The Last of Us, and a traumatic scene was definitely happening. Kenma had just finished playing it the night before, so every scene you were playing was familiar.
"I officially hate this game," You said, your voice breaking and he desperately wanted to hold you, "Fucking hell."
"God, she's amazing." Kenma's roommate said, eyes turning into literal hearts.
"Hm." Yeah, she is, Kenma thought, but could never really say.
As a YouTuber himself who streams games, he was aware that you were not as popular, and it was a fact that he really didn't like. Sure, you were on a less popular platform, but Twitch was incredibly popular by itself as well. He also understood the bias that came with being a female gamer, and while it sounded ridiculous to him, Kenma was one of those people who believed gaming required no gender.
He adored your content, and he secretly adored the hell out of you, so seeing you soar would only make him happy.
"I... I can practically feel what pain she's feeling right now," You spoke about the game, a lone tear threatening to leak out of your eye, "But! We shall persevere. I've been waiting 7 years for this game, so I won't let... won't let something like this halt my interest. Let's see if this has a point to it all."
God, he adored you. But, Kenma considered it an inconvenient crush because of course, the world was small. The first big crush he has on someone and he hoped it would remain over the internet, but it just had to become something more tangible, something that could make him weak in the knees.
You, a college student/Twitch streamer, an apparent baker in your mother's bakery, a game reviewer for Sony, insanely cute, and also happened to be one of his YouTube channel's biggest fans.
He had only recently discovered your personal twitter handle, and dear lord, you were simping after him with no remorse. It wasn't as if he was all you talked about, but he had also noticed the trajectory of the games you were playing were on par with his own timeline. Kenma had finished his final stream for The Last of Us II just the night before and you had now started playing it. Right before that, it was Bloodborne, and before that, it was Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, your public handle was a lot more professional and despite knowing that it was there, he hadn't sent you a follow request because well, Kenma called himself an introvert in every matter but Kuroo just said he was shy.
While he knew that he could easily approach you and have you know he knew of your existence, Kenma preferred not to get into such detail. It was comfortable admiring you from afar, and it was comfortable being where he wasâhe had his company to work hard over, he was also a computer student and a YouTuber. Sure, he had his hands full especially after calling you abnormal for something that he himself was doing, but he never really fit into a bracket anyway. Kenma's latent obsession with you was something he wasn't particularly proud of and this wasn't because it had anything to do with you, but simply because he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Change, in many ways, scared him. And by changing the structure or dynamics of him admiring you in secret, while you admired him not so secretly, Kenma was certain that it might not lead where he may have wanted it to go.
Surely, Kuroo was against this sort of caution, calling it cowardly and saying it lacked passion; but Kenma knew it was just a crush. There was no way he could deduce the kind of person you were based on how you gamed or reacted to games, based on the little tid-bits of information you gave out while playing those games, or even how you openly spoke about how much you admired 'puddinghead0's videos. Kenma hated Kuroo for giving him that name, but he was too lazy to come up with a new one.
"Also," You sprung up in the final two minutes of your latest video, "I'm on Patreon, now! I honestly have no idea how it works, but if you really like the content I make and want to support me, you can become a patron and wish me luck!"
Kenma waited for his stupid roommate to go out of his room before he could open Patreon and find your link, which was thankfully in the description. Without a second thought, he donated to your profile but cussed instantly when he realized what he had done.
He had sent you a donation as himself, as 'puddinghead0's Patreon.
Without a second thought, Kenma called Kuroo and explained what had happened.
"That is why, Kenma, you need to check a thousand times and not let blind love navigate your actionsâ"
"If I knew you were going to spout such nonsense I wouldn't have called you."
He could hear Kuroo snicker while he ran a hand through his hair. Kenma groaned before Kuroo said, "How bad is this, Kenma? She'll be happy. Of course, this means she'll know you watch her content, but how bad can this be?"
"I didn't want her to know."
"And leave her devoid of the happiness of having her idol appreciate her content? You're cold, Kenma."
"You don't understand. What if... What if she tries to contact me?"
"You, my friend, have not even shared your personal account anywhere. The only way she can contact you is by commenting on your videos, which I am sure you check constantly to see if she did comment, or Tweeting, which she does every three days."
Kenma blushed at the accusation because it was true.
"She won't know who you are. Besides, there's no harm if she even does contact you! Just tell her casually that yeah, you like her contact. I don't see what the big deal is."
  "Of course you don'tâ"
  "Oh, she's tweeted something."
Kenma's entire body froze. Leaving Kuroo on the call, Kenma opened Twitter on his laptop and there it was, your latest tweet.
I am trying NOT to freak out over puddinghead sending me a donation on Patreon, pls save my soul, I am dead.
Kenma groaned before hearing Kuroo laugh once more, "She's adorable!"
I know that, Kenma thought before feeling his entire face flash up. Ending Kuroo's call, Kenma looked at your public profile before then moving to your personal one. He wasn't following that one either, but he wanted to see your tweets, he wanted to know more about youâhe wouldn't deny any of these facts, but Kenma believed it was far too idiotic to dream of getting to know you through a virtual media. He wasn't even the sort of person to become close to people he met in real life, how could he allow himself a virtual friendship?
The thought staggered him, and the idea behind it was what kept him at bay. Kenma wanted to know about you, talk to you, learn about who you were and what you were doing, but he felt the media that connected you was what separated you.
It wasn't cowardice at all if he was just sticking to the facts and being real.
*
The next day, Kenma walked to his class by himself, listening to the latest podcast by Joe Rogan. While the external sound wasn't entirely muted, Kenma could discern sounds of people talking, cars moving around, and other noises even though he was playing the podcast on full sound. However, there was one sound in particular that stood out. Kenma paused before turning to his right, noticing a crowd of people had gathered there, with some sort of event going on. He didn't pay attention to half the events that his college conducted, his mind was obviously quite busy elsewhere, but when the announcer moved around in a weird Joker cosplaying outfit, Kenma was a tad bit intrigued.
Was it gaming related?
He slowly moved toward the crowd before finally being able to hear what the anchor was saying.
"We've got prizes for the top three best performers, and one of the participants is the one and only (s/n) (y/n), streamer from Twitch!"
Kenma froze, half-minded to run the hell away from there. But, it seemed as if his feet were stuck to the ground. How had he not known this? Didn't you always announce the events you go to? Why were you suddenly here? A second later, he spotted you, hair put up in an updo, a plain black tee, and regular jeans. You were smiling, but some part of that smile seemed a bit hesitant.
"We will be playing a bit differently today! Instead of the usual Fortnite battles or Apex Legends, we'll be going went and battling out on Red Dead Online! And of course, if you beat (y/n) here you earn bragging rights!"
He noticed you shift in your position a little bit, clearly uncomfortable with the attention you were getting; it didn't even look like you wanted to be there. Kenma could feel his chest hurt, and his palms were sweating now. That's all it is, he told himself. An inconvenient crush, an inconvenient crush, that's all.
Kenma sighed before noticing how he barely knew anyone there and was almost thankful for that fact; but before he could thank his stars, a hand threw itself around his neck and sprung him forward, earning the attention of not just everyone there, but especially you.
"We have our first participant," It was his goddamn roommate, "Kenma's a brilliant gamer!"
Kenma's eyes immediately found yours, and you were looking at him with wide, confused eyes. Although this was set in the open and the atmosphere was quite cold, Kenma felt nothing but warmth radiating all over his body at the mere sight of you; you were just a few feet away, and you were giving him a rather sympathetic expression, and god, you looked so fucking prettyâ
"That's great! Sign up, ya'll! Winner will be winning a brand new DualShock 4!"
Oh fuck, Kenma thought before he felt his heart beginning to pound. He was now seated beside you, and he could practically shrink into non-existence. You were unmoving, and you weren't looking at him, but would you have looked at him if you knew he was puddinghead? Insecurity swarmed his being and he could practically feel steam escaping his ears but a moment later, he thought he'd die.
"This was so last minute," you said, rubbing the back of your neck, "The anchor's my cousin and she's so demanding."
"Oh," Kenma said, feeling his heartbeat skyrocket, "I see."
"Yeah! I mean," You giggled now, "I'm not even good at Red Dead Online!"
Kenma smirked, knowing the fact already. You struggled with Red Dead Redemption not because you were bad, but because you couldn't progress with a plot so divisive. You wanted to explore more, and since the game was so vast, you barely bothered with the Online version. You turned to him now and tilted your head.
  "You're a gamer, I heard? Kozume-kun, right?"
Fuck, she knows my name, "Y-Yeah. I game when I'm free."
"Do you have a Twitch or YouTube?"
There's no fucking way I'll answer that, "Noâ"
"Ah, you must really be having a great time then."
Kenma blinked before turning to you with confusion. What did you mean?
  "Don't you enjoy streaming?"
"Ah, no, no," You flailed your hands shyly, and Kenma believed he could combust, "It's not like that. I just think, after a point, streaming becomes more for the fans than for yourself. I used to do it for me, but now... I'm needed in places like this for promotion, and I need to have a Patreon if I'm popular or it'll look weird, I don't know... Too many restrictions. I just love gaming, you know?"
Kenma found himself smiling, "Yeah, I know. I've seen your videos."
  "Oh?"
Kenma's eyes widened. He wanted to slap himself on his forehead.
  "IâI mean, y-you're popular."
  "Thanks! You're really sweet, Kozume-kun!"
Fucking hell, Kenma placed a hand on his forehead, She's too cute.
"Say," you said, a sly tone to your voice, "Do you want to get out of here?"
"I'd do anything." Kenma honestly agreed.
But, you couldn't just up and leave. You were called here as Twitch streamer (s/n) (y/n), and that meant your behavior was restricted. As much as you seemed to hate said restriction, Kenma was certain that you wouldn't go against it. It could take a big blow against your viewership, and you wouldn't take that chance.
A second later, your hand gripped his wrist before you shot him a wink. Kenma's heart jumped to the skies before you pulled him away from the crowd, with participants lining the entrance to enter their names. Sure, you were doing something badâyour cousin wanted you there, but not once had she even asked if you wanted to be a part of this event. Just as Kenma was pulled in without his consent. You weren't a competitive gamer, and you were not going to be, even if it was for someone else. After running away a fair distance, Kenma felt the part of his wrist burn right where you were touching him.
"I think I need to run more in real life and not just as Ellie." You said, and Kenma chuckled.
  "Running's good."
"I used to run track," You said, turning to him. "Now I run in games and that's it."
You have no right being that cute, he thought before clearing his throat. He slowly pulled away from you, which made your eyes widen before shooting him an apologetic smile. He was a bit confused as to what you had done, did this mean you didn't care about losing followers?
"You might think that I've committed career suicide," You scoffed, "Honestly, this is the bravest I've been in so long."
  "What do you mean?"
You shrugged, "Ever since I became a bit popular by streaming, I've just... I could feel myself change with the way my viewers wanted me to be? I don't blame them or anything, I just think that the love I get from them makes me yearn for more. And that yearning leaves me... inept to be myself. It's the downside of wanting to remain popular, I guess."
"It's not like you can't be yourself and still be popular." Kenma added.
"Yeah I know," You said, "I mean, just look at puddinghead0, we don't even know what he looks like, and wow. I adore his content."
Kenma froze once more. Was this being recorded? Did Kuroo finally tip you off and was this being filmed for his reaction? Whatever it was, he wasn't going to reveal to you now.
  "Y-Yeah, I think he just doesn't care."
"I wish I was more like that because I end up caring. I like the comments and the views and the love. Agh, it's such a weird complex moral question. Don't even get me started."
Kenma laughed at your reaction before you turned to him and stuck a tongue out. Kenma rolled his eyes before waving a hand at you.
"If anything," Kenma said, looking at the ground, "You didn't lose this follower today."
Your eyes widened at his statement. You smiled before nodding, and let out a chuckle.
  "Thank you, Kozume-kun."
*
Locking the door to his room, Kenma began to edit for his latest video. He was making a review for The Last of Us 2, but his mind was elsewhere. He still hadn't told Kuroo that he had met you, which would only cause the black-haired man to tease him relentlessly. Letting out a sigh, he felt sleep douse his eyelids as he continued the edit, right before a notification popped up on his phone.
It was you.
He narrowed his eyes before checking the date and time; it was unusual for you to stream live on random days. He'd learned your pattern by now. You'd been doing this for a couple of months, and it was quite easy for him to know just when and what time you'd begin. However, the screen for The Last of Us 2 was open and you looked like you had just stopped crying. His heart broke at the sight, and he instantly closed the tabs to his own edit, before opening your video on his monitor. You were taking deep breaths before chuckling.
"Hello to everyone that's still with me," You sounded so broken, Kenma felt helpless as he continued staring at you, "You might be wondering why I'm... yeah. So, I did something and I guess I got punished for it? I was forced into a game contest and I think walking out of it made some of my followers mad. I even spoke to this other person about walking out and honestly, it didn't hit me then that what puddinghead's doing takes a lot of courage."
  "Ah, fuck, (y/n)," Kenma groaned.
"I guess even when I expected to lose followers, I didn't expect the hate? Some of the comments were just... nasty. I..." You sniffed, "...I didn't expect that you would hate on someone for making a personal choice? And I didn't do it to offend anyone, I seriously don't know how the internet works. Oh, oh wowâ" You looked troubled and Kenma could see why. "âlosing out on viewers now, great. 'Don't be a whiny bitch', 'This is why girls shouldn't game'..."
You took a deep breath before calming down and saying the few words Kenma feared you might eventually come around to say.
"This is (y/n), signing off to a world where gaming is appreciated and is not filled with a community of hate. Hope to see you there."
And the stream ended.
Kenma sighed before leaning back, no thought in his head. He knew for a fact that his room-mate must have seen the stream as well, and Kuroo would be calling him about the entire ordeal just to ensure he had something to say about it. Kenma, on the other hand, felt like he had practically pushed you to make this decision and partly felt like taking the blame, despite the common sense telling him that he had nothing to do with it. You weren't the sort of person who would jump at something without a second thought, and even if he didn't know you personally, he had been following you and your streams for months now. It felt like he knew that part of you quite well.
Kuroo was the first to call. Kenma stared at the phone for a bit before letting out a breath and getting back to editing his video. He only had to add commentary, and his mind was already circling on what to say.
Uploading the video took him exactly two more hours, after having missed three calls from Kuroo and twelve messages. At one point, Kuroo had even stopped contacting Kenma, thinking he was busy with something, and he was spot on. Kuroo's eyes wandered on the new notification about his friend's YouTube channel, which was weird considering it was not yet time for him to post something. He knew quite well that Kenma might have definitely seen (y/n)'s stream, and wanted to desperately talk to him about it, but without a clue of what the boy was thinking, Kuroo simply clicked on the notification and let the video play out.
It was the review for the game, The Last of Us 2, and Kuroo knew while giving the review, which was around 8-9 minutes, Kenma would speak his thoughts that were a tad bit uncensored toward the end. He'd talk about the drama surrounding the game, he would even bring up the entire hate that this game was receiving, but insteadâKenma had a rather strange dialogue instead.
"One thing I don't understand is how toxic the gaming community can be, at times," Kuroo paused, narrowing his eyes at his friend's words, "While we welcome new gamers to the entire journey of learning and discovering the joy of gaming, we also tend to put them down if they didn't adhere to a certain trend. I came across one such incident happening to (s/n) (y/n)'s Twitch channel."
"Holy shit!" Kuroo sat up straight, eyes wide as saucers at the bold move his friend made.
"I'm part of this community and I think I have the right to call out how toxic we are in general,"Â
Kenma's voice didn't even waver, but after knowing him his entire life, Kuroo could deduce that the boy was a bit angry,Â
"(y/n) didn't particularly do anything wrong, and she's received some nasty comments about being a female gamer, and I think that's...just disgusting. She has all the right to either attend or ditch a gaming event, and no one has to be forced to do something they don't want to do. We all have games we don't like despite being gamers, we don't have to do it all. I support (y/n), and I'll admit, I'm saddened by how her fans have treated her. Her content is great and I have immense respect for her. I hope she decides to come back and stream more. That being said, I think The Last of Us 2 is..."
As he got around to talk more about the game, Kuroo knew that this was a huge step for Kenma, and he had no idea what suddenly made the boy rethink his entire decision on never bringing her up. Now that he had, he's indirectly initiated a conversation with her, she'd definitely try and reach out nowâin any way she possibly could, just to thank him at least.
Kuroo noticed his phone ringing a second later and a grin made its way to his lips.
  "What just happened?"
"I met her, Kuroo," Kuroo almost had the wind knocked out of him, "She was at my college campus. I was walking back to my room since classes were canceled. There was some sort of gaming event. She didn't want to be a part of it, and neither did I, and we ditched. It wasâ"
"You like her more now, don't you?"
When Kuroo received nothing more than silence from Kenma's end, he was certain. His precious, introverted, best boy had fallen for someone. It was a proud moment, almost.
  "You have to tell herâ"
"Kuroo, this... this is all I want to do."
"That's bullshit, and even you know that."
"What? You want me to open up to her and tell her I'm the YouTuber she's been gushing about for so long and I was the one who kind of pushed her into doing what she did, and so that she can hate me afterward for hiding the truth because I wouldn't be losing out on anything and sheâ"
"Whoa there, Kenma. I'm just saying go talk to her as her favorite YouTuber. You're overthinking this."
"No, you're underthinking this. I did what I had to do. It was... hard to see her like that."
Kuroo let out a sigh but before he could say anything, Kenma had already ended the call. That boy needs to grow a pair, he thought, a bit annoyed at Kenma's nature of avoiding his feelings. While Kenma believed it was for the best, he knew he was simply running away from it. Kuroo knew his friend adored (y/n), but the boy couldn't categorize that as real feelings because he's met her just once. Finding something real virtually scared him more than finding something real in real life, and while Kuroo wanted to understand that, it only annoyed him because Kenma wasn't even trying.
When you watched puddinghead0's recent video, you were jaw-dropped in awe and absolute admiration. Tears filled your eyes, but what was more was how his voice now seemed a tad bit familiar, though you didn't pay any heed to it since you've been following this channel for an entire year now. It moved you to know someone you've been admiring has been watching your content, but at the same time, he was speaking up for you? You wanted to thank him, you wanted to send him a message and say you were incredibly grateful for what he's done and the only way you knew you could say something was on Twitter.
So you mentioned him on a tweet and poured your heart out within character limit. You wondered if he would notice your tweet since you've mentioned him countless times before, but even if he didn't, even if he paid you no heed after all of this, you were still grateful. However, a second later, you received a new follower. You blinked upon noticing that it was Kozume-kun from the other day. A soft smile fell on your lips at the soft recollection of running away from a gaming event, after which everything spiraled, but you didn't in any way blame him. Your mind again drifted back to puddinghead0 and you sighed.
I'd kill to see him, man, you thought, eyeing your tweet of him dreamily.
A second later, there was a notification. You almost spat out your heart at the mere words: puddinghead0 likes your tweet.
puddinghead0 likes your tweet.
puddinghead0 likes your tweet.
"Oh my godâ" You choked on air. However, a second later, you found it difficult to remain sitting on your bed.
Don't thank me, I hope you're feeling better. You didn't deserve any of that.
Is that aâ
...deserve any of that. <3
Fuck me.
Kenma almost dozed off in class right before it ended. It wasn't like it was school where the teacher would wake him up after noticing him asleep, no one really bothered. Kenma was pushed awake by the momentum of the class once it was over and he leaned back before gathering his things. Tightening his hair tie, he casually walked out of class and got to the campus. He spotted the event area, where the gaming event had occurred and instantly spotted his room-mate and a bunch of people gathered there. Rolling his eyes, he walked away from there, not wanting to gather any attention.
  "Kenma!"
He had failed. Kenma froze to his spot before turning to spot his room-mate dashing over to him, a wide grin plastered on his features. Wrapping a hand over Kenma's shoulders, his roommate brought him to the others he was talking to, before releasing him.
"You're that guy (y/n) ran away with during that event, right?" One of them asked, and Kenma didn't bother to respond.
"Why did she run though? I mean, it doesn't make sense for her to just up and leave."
"I've been telling you," The same guy said, "She's not the one playing those games. She's just the face."
Kenma frowned. What is this dick talking about?
"Man, I think that's harsh," His roommate said, "I just think she's too chicken to play in front of peopleâ"
"She's literally a streamer." Kenma said, rolling his eyes.
  "Yeah, but why did sheâ"
"If you can't understand that she doesn't owe you shit, then there's no helping it. She didn't want to play at that event, and she didn't. I don't see why you aren't calling me a fake gamer for running too." Kenma snapped.
The others shrugged, "That's because we've seen you playâ"
"It's bullshit." Kenma said before walking away. You all are bullshit, he thought before the frown on his face settled into an uncharacteristic glare, directed at what who knows what.
A moment later, he felt his phone buzz with a notification. Kenma opened his phone and saw that he had a message from you, but what confused him wasâ
The message was directed to Kenma and not puddinghead. His heart jumped as his fingers roamed over the notification, wanting to open it only when he was in the comfortable confines of his room. Swallowing the bubbling anxiety, Kenma fought the urge to smile as he continued walking back, unaware of what the Twitter message could be. It would normally take him around 12 minutes to get to his apartment from campus, but that day, Kenma merely took 7.
On reaching his room, he finally allowed himself to open your message.
(y/n): Hey! I've taken a break from streaming for now, just wanted to let you know. I don't know why I'm sending you this message, but talking to you that day made me realize that I don't really need to seek approval constantly. Also, puddinghead liked my tweet and I'm a bit too happy so I needed to gush, don't @ me
Kenma chuckled, feeling his heart jump at every word you'd said. He knew you didn't realize that you were gushing about him to him, but that didn't matter. He wanted to gush about you too. He felt a stone stuck at his throat at how real all of this felt, despite having only seen you once.
Kenma Kozume: I think he's the sort of guy who isn't too loud about the things he likes. And I think a break is a good idea, (s/n).
(y/n): Call me (y/n), came the immediate response. Kenma's eyes widened at the fact that you were online, and that the two of you were currently exchanging messages live.
(y/n): Yeah, I got the feeling from his videos that he's perhaps a private person. I'm still really glad that he supported me, I can't thank him enough. I'm feeling much better already!
Kenma smiled, I'm glad that you are.
(y/n): Also
He blinked.
(y/n): Do you want to co-op at Bloodborne? I'm trying to get a platinum, haha.
"Fuck," He let out a breath before chuckling uncharacteristically. "You can't be serious."
(y/n): I'll send you my PSN, and you can add me as a party member. Only if you're up to it, I mean.
Kenma Kozume: Sure, sounds like fun. Also
Kenma gulped. He felt like this was showing off, but he didn't care. He was going to say it.
Kenma Kozume: I already have platinum in Bloodborne. :)
(y/n): Ah, screw you.
Kenma chuckled. He wouldn't admit it, but his heart was hammering against his chest and his palms were sweating. Soon, he'd be connected to you via the DualShock and the two of you would be co-oping in a game that was designed to make players fail. He wasn't too sure how much more his heart was going to take, and while he knew he had to tell someone, for some reason, Kenma wanted to keep this a secret. It wasn't because he was ashamed or he didn't want anyone to find out.
It was simply because it was too good to be true, and he didn't want to lose out on a chance to get to know you more. Because, if this kept up...
If this kept up, Kenma was surely going to fall in love with you.

predictions for yuumori s2 (as a manga reader)
No matter what happens, this is probably gonna end up aging badly, but iâm hyperfixating and Iâve decided to make it everyone elseâs problem so Iâm going to predict where theyâre gonna go with s2 of moriarty the patriot (keep in mind iâm writing this as of episode 2) and what I think would be the ideal scenario, in the likely situation that this is the last season.
So we can tell a lot about what theyâre going to cut/include from the opening and ending, and the first two episodes.Â
Observations/Conclusions:
-moneypenny and most likely von herder are gone, already evidenced by the first 2 episodes, which is :( but understandable bc thereâs only so much space and theyâre definitely cutting the arcs where they would be important
-so that means no moran backstory because duh, thereâs a point in the backstory and i see value in it, moran slaps when heâs not being an ass lmao, but again, time constraints
-no matter what I canât see them keeping in the like, child hunting thing 2 electric boogaloo, even tho it did further Fredâs and Louisâ characters, since theyâve previously cut out stuff considering them and. You know. Thatâs how it be.
-You can see theyâre including jack the ripper arc (considering, jack is in the opening) and I have faith that they can downsize the arc without butchering it if they do it right. This is good that theyâre keeping it in, considering itâs one of the... main arcs not involving milverton that advances the plot.
-Major thing we can tell is that, yeah, Milverton is nowhere to be seen. It seems like this would fuck things up bad since heâs like, the only kind of âmain villainâ we get here. But honestly? I agree with that. Fuck Milverton. He has no character or motivation and is like my one and only bone to pick with the manga. Heâs just there to suck ass and create plot convenience?? I donât like him and he never needed to be there if he wasnât at least going to do something interesting. I support the anime cutting him.
-That DOES fuck over their ability to do the white knight arc, since, well, milverton is the cause of all of that. And this is the one thing I really donât know what theyâre going to do with that to connect jack the ripper directly to the final problem. I canât predict that, but I do think there are ways it can be done that wonât be Awful.
-So considering that, Maryâs arc is definitely axed, which doesnât bother me that much since by that point i so impatient for gay people and really didnât care about watsonâs fiance even tho she is a lovely lady. For anime effect, she does not need an arc, though I could see them having her show up a few times so watson doesnât seem too gay either lmao.
-Theyâre definitely shooting to end with the final problem, considering without it thereâs no big culminating event between moriarty and sherlock, which is obviously the big sell. And well. Itâs. Um. The final problem.Â
The season says itâs slated to be 13 episodes, since s1 didnât have enough time for 12. I honestly think they can manage it all, if they play their cards right.Â
Outlook:
This whole potential situation does sound familiar, Iïżœïżœïżœll point out that I just arrived here after the shit show of the promised neverlandâs second season. But I donât think it will get bad like tpn did. Because in Moriarty, they could afford to cut things because there are many stand alone and disposable arcs, whereas tpn really shouldnât have, since they pretty much all contributed later to Major Main Character Plot Things. And the important points of the arcs that theyâll probably cut can actually be written into existing ones without looking like plot convenience, in my vision of it.
Honestly, Iâm pretty optimistic for moriarty, it works better for this kind of adaption than in a lot of other manga that end up getting these most likely two season adaptions. Iâd love to get those arcs for the servantâs and other characterâs developments of course, but trying to stick that in when thereâs really only time to focus on the main characters would suck up time better spent on really getting deep into the main storyline. Even if there are less characters, in a situation like this a streamlined and nuanced story will look elegant, whereas shoving as much content as possible into a few short episodes makes everyone cringe.
The situation does end up looking like the promised neverland, but it has a chance to be significantly less fucked considering,,, well,,, tpn is an insanely low bar, and they will hopefully not make the promised neverlandâs same mistakes of Shove Seventeen Plotlines Into One Episode After Realizing Belatedly They Actually Needed Those Parts.
Obviously I donât know what will happen, and this will be outdated by sunday lmao, but my projection looks something like this for 13 episodes to conclude the show.
Predictions:
(Episodes 1+2: A Scandal in the British Empire)
Episode 3: Iâm very anxious for 3 considering this will probably make or break my opinion on the anime. Ideally, this episode would wrap up the scandal arc and go over the whole James Bond thing, it could be pretty baller and fit well into an episode. But though thereâs plenty of Irene in the opening, thereâs no sight of Bond, so considering anime as a whole is fucking transphobic, they might try to change it, twist around bondâs words or just, gloss over it altogether. If they cut it, they might have time to squeeze in another arc but I donât think they honestly need to? With what they seem to be keeping in, theyâll have ample time to get to everything, and it would be shorter anyway considering the smaller amount of servants.Â
Here, we do definitely need to cover Sherlockâs âreceiving the name of the lord of crime and deciding to burn it and find it out himself because heâs extraâ, no matter the status of irene/bondâs gender. If they do that right and possibly change a few things so itâs more important, this could play into them moving forward his whole discovery of their secrets.
Episodes 4-7: These will most likely cover jack the ripper arc. Thereâs a lot to go over here, and Iâm confident they can cut it down, because tbh Moriarty is pretty long winded for a manga and cutting things is good to an extent. This covers most of the major expansions on Williamâs ideas and plans, and definitely has the holes to stuff in more of the points made in the arcs that will be cut out. Though I have my reservations, they could plausibly take most points in white knight and integrate them into here.
Episodes 8-10: These are the ones that are going to take the most work and probably be the most changed. They should finish up the ripper arc in 7, give or take a few episodes, and then here, If Sherlock has a little more figured out from episode 3, he can look deeper. I think itâs honestly a good idea for the one to discover the Incriminating Records to be him, as it again gives them more connection. There needs to be some other reason Moriartyâs secrets are in danger of getting leaked to the paper, but Iâm sure they can put something together with scotland yard or something, or even like, Mycroft. I see that. But if that happens, then we can spend an episode or so on the merchant of london, aka little liam commits girlboss, which can be woven into the idea of everything Coming Out.
Episodes 11-13: Final problem. I see this going mostly unchanged, up until 55. Truth is theyâll probably end up cutting something but hmm. I donât know. They should keep the fred stuff in, since theyâll cut his other development. They should keep the squad asking sherlock for help, since they cut the other parts that highlight the crime squadâs care for him. But I think they could montage most of the William Goes French Revolution On You Hoes, even the part where the kids come in front of one of them, if you see whatâs going on right. But everything can proceed as in the manga pretty smoothly, I think, it all makes sense if they put it together in 7-10. You know, you got somehow, the worst case happens, and boom, scandal, final problem enacted. Killing spree. William reveals heâs been emo this whole time but itâs too late now. Everyone scrambling to catch up with his damn plans. Gay boy knocking on 221B with a fucking love letter. Shit gets found out. And then... well, yuh.
Disclaimer I still donât know everything about this, bc I cannot find a translation of 54, only the raw with no context, and I know thereâs content after 55 but I canât find that either. But Iâm sure as hell an english major and can understand where things are probably going. I donât know whatâs involved at that point, and if thereâs some plan detailed to save him or something. Thatâs the main thing I donât know, and if there is one detailed of course that kind of changes everything, but for now Iâm going on the assumption that 54 is âsherlock runs to the bridge and yells at liam to stop being a dramatic whore while london burns around them and the murder squad watches anxiously with mysterious intent, until it is chapter 55âł. (IF YâALL HAVE THE ENGLISH PLEASE HMU) They better not TOUCH anything in 55 or so help me god.
But as to after 55, things are going to be different. Besties, Iâm an optimist, but thereâs no way theyâll make a season after this. It does appear that theyâve mostly wrapped up, and theyâve gotten through what Big Revals they plan on doing. The shit hinted from the beginning has happened, and there probably wonât be enough to create another, unless the author plans on fucking shit up again, which I donât approve of. There are a few things still left unsaid, like, Liamâs real name and everything, but if itâs supposed to be important, things that small can 100 percent be written into this.
And as something thatâs intending to finish up a story, depending on what manga canon really is (BESTIE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS) they might change it. Thereâs two options, a bittersweet/hopeful and a tragic one, but either one will end up open ended, because of my extensive knowledge of 2 season animes with significantly longer mangas. (done badly: tokyo ghoul and tpn, done well: owari no seraph and mob psycho) Either we have it like well, oh damn, everything was destined to be Sad but well youâre with him now youâre probably dead, but you know thereâs something hinted at and you donât know for sure so thatâs the catch. So you get a vague and bittersweet but possibly hopeful ending. OR something that takes,,, whatever ends up happening in the manga or whatever the plan is and turning it into an epilogue infodump.
I can see either going well depending on how they handle the messages of the story. But yeah, as far as to my extent of the understanding of the show, thatâs how itâll probably go, and what my opinion of how it should is.
To What Extent Will The Gay:
You know, this is my ideal scenario within these time limits, but you know they could always go The Wrong Direction if the anime team took a look at some of the later chapters and went âholy shit this is a bit too gayâ and try to axe some of the sherliam content, which I wouldnât put past any corporation.
In the case that they do, I see lot of good shit going. Theyâre clearly trying to do the final problem, so they obviously canât cut out 55, which is good :). But though 55 is clearly, uh, really fucking homosexual, the most romantic shit goes down in 53, as far as I can tell? (keeping in mind i still havenât found 54âČs english version, if anyone would like to direct me to a translation, that would be LOVELY.) I unfortunately can see them cutting Liamâs letter almost entirely, and that kind of scares me.
You know, even if iâd hate and slander them for it, cutting out james bond would be something i would understand. But messing with sherliam would fuck them over, not just cause that would be awful, but like, because itâs like... kind of the main point.
So Iâm not really too worried about them messing with it, mostly because the content itself is holding them at gunpoint, sherliam holds the whole plot structure in place, especially if youâre shooting for final problem. And even in the manga they never, like, actually say theyâre in love with each other even tho historically gay lovers would probably call each other âfriendsâ lmao so itâs not like they have to greenlight gay sex or anything lmao itâs just Very Romantic (No Homo)
And apart from that, yuumori has actually been pretty decent to the gays so far?? Damn shawty, they certainly havenât toned down the gay yet and itâs clearly their main source of fans, and what theyâve decided to emphasize in both openings and a significant portion of the s2 ending. Weâre all here for it, and theyâre catering to it, so I can at least give you that.
#moriarty the patriot#yukoku no moriarty#rowan's hyperfixation essays#sherliam#Holy Shitte this is long#watch me find 54 and immediately change my stance on all of this#or something idk#watch this whole thing be irrelevant in half a week#HHHHHHHH#if it doesn't go exactly like this i will lose my mind lmao

Not related to 19 days so you don't have to answer. but I'm curious to know what are your thoughts on given specifically about akihiko&ugets "relationship" and how they still were having that "relationship" even after the initial break up in highschool. and how it completely ended in chapter27. i think that it was heartbreaking but at the same time it was needed? If that makes sense
Good evening, dear anon-san! (_ _)
Iâm so sorry I have kept you waiting this long. I needed to catch up on the manga to answer your question and then my inbox got suddenly filled with 19 Days asks and I thought I would go through a couple of them first. Again, I apologize for the wait. Thank you for your patience! (_ _) Also, I donât mind questions about other stories than 19 Days at all! This was very refreshing and exciting.
My thoughts on Given and AkiUgetsu
I absolutely loved Given. I have read a lot of yaoi and shounen-ai works but I would have to say Given is the best BL I have come across. (The very close second would probably be Hodokeru Kaibutsu and Hadakeru Kaibutsu by Ogeretsu Tanaka.) Givenâs characters and relationships are complex, the development is well-paced and realistic, the premise is unique, and all of that is wrapped nicely in the blanket theme of music. The anime adaptation was great, too, and Mafuyuâs song ripped my poor heart to shreds.
Perhaps not surprisingly given my track record of the type of characters I tend to fall in love with, Ugetsu immediately became my favorite character. He was dark and a little twisted, insanely talented, beautiful and sensual. To me, Ugetsu was and still is the most complex and interesting character in Given. Also, as soon as it was clear his and Akihikoâs relationship status was very much in the realm of âitâs complicatedâ, AkiUgetsu became my OTP. I was instantly drawn to them as a couple. They stroked my need for dark, twisted, complicated, and dysfunctional so good.
My thoughts on the AkiUgetsu development
I think Akihiiko and Ugetsuâs relationship was sparked under unfortunate signs and was doomed to fail from the get-go. Mentally it was painful and violent right from the start.
Akihikoâs love was entwined with his envy for Ugetsu. He was drawn to Ugetsu but at the same time resented him. When faced by Ugetsuâs mass of prodigy talent, Akihiko felt defeated and gave up on the violin despite being fairly confident in his music prior to that. He loved Ugetsu and cared about him, but that love made him give up on his dreams and run away from challenges. Gradually, he lost sight of his passion for music. Even if the love was real for both of them, that is not the kind of foundation that could carry a happy relationship.
Ugetsu saw Akihiko slowly but surely lose his motivation and passion, too. Iâm sure he just didnât know what was causing it and he didnât know how to help him.
He wanted to find a trigger that would spark a change in Akihiko and return him to how Ugetsu remembered him in the beginning. The thing is, though, I donât think Ugetsu is a comforting character. Heâs not the type who would stand in the sidelines cheering for Akihiko or have a heart-to-heart about his lost motivation. Akihikoâs attitude bothered him and made him sad but to me, it always looked like he didnât think it was up to him to raise Akihikoâs spirits. No one but Akihiko himself could rekindle his passion and find the drive to improve. He didnât want to see Akihikoâs half-hearted efforts and was pretty open about it. Iâve always felt like he thought Akihiko was settling for less and on some level, he looked down on Akihiko for playing the drums in a band.
What makes Ugetsuâs position heartbreaking is that I donât think he saw it was him and their relationship that ultimately snuffed out Akihikoâs passion. Or that it was his talent that had planted that seed from the beginning. At least not in so many words. He came to realize the change and what had probably triggered it at the second live performance. Akihiko had found his new trigger and he had found it somewhere else than with Ugetsu. I donât think any of that was Ugetsuâs fault, though. It wasnât his fault that Akihiko gave up. Their relationship was just doomed from the beginning.
I think their first break-up in high school was what made Ugetsuâs such an interesting character to me. It spoke volumes of how complicated of a person he was. I think being in control and keeping a distance around himself is very important to Ugetsu.Â
When Akihiko bought the mug and moved in, he breached Ugetsuâs sense of space and control. Iâm sure his reaction to Akihikoâs gift surprised both of them, and Ugetsu felt bad for shattering the mug. It looked like his heart was torn in two directions. Later on, he got used to Akihikoâs presence, but I think the mug incident was a sign that Ugetsu needed the feeling of having a tight grip on his own priorities. He loved Akihiko butâŠ
âŠhis love for Akihiko ultimately distracted his love for music. Creating and playing music was who Ugetsu was as a person. It consumed him as a whole and having that kind of single-track mind was Ugetsuâs lifeline. Anything or anyone disturbing it made him feel uneasy and like he wasnât in control of his own feelings and freedom anymore. Because he loved Akihiko, he became something Ugetsu started to chase instead of music. Ugetsu chases big emotions in his music but his love for Akihiko was threatening to come in the way of that by occupying his mind with something else.
I donât know if Iâm projecting too much but I resonate with that feeling. When I get into something, it quickly becomes my passion and drives my ambitions. I become obsessed and consumed and feel like other interests threaten my relationship with that special thing. They threaten my sense of âcontrolâ, so I push them away. I make a choice to not follow some other paths next to what Iâm interested in, and I feel like that was going on with Ugetsu when he decided to break up with Akihiko the first time. That, and he could see Akihikoâs passion for music slowly withering away next to him.
But instead of separating completely, they stayed as âroommatesâ and fell into this back-and-forth of a relationship that was painful for both of them. Neither of them was able to pull the plug on their relationship. They were unable to let go but hurt each other by staying together.
They werenât just roommates even after breaking up. Their relationship had become stale and repetitive - a painful cycle of both their good and bad times going around over and over again. After being apart for a while, they reminisced what they loved about each other but soon after, Ugetsu would find a new man which painfully crashed Akihiko back to earth. It was like breaking up a hundred times instead of just once.
It seemed they also had sex occasionally after breaking up. Another thing that further complicated things.
I think the sex between them as âroommatesâ took a rather dark tone. Sex was about power and territory and a way for Akihiko to take his frustration out on something. As Ugetsu kept trying to push Akihiko away by sleeping with other guys, Akihiko had the growing need to assert his status and reclaim Ugetsu via sex. Seeing Ugetsu with others was painful, and the more it hurt, the more he tried to cling onto Ugetsu physically. And Ugetsu let him.
Before long, though, this whole cycle became suffocating for Akihiko. The place he had once cherished and felt like he belonged to had become a pit he couldnât climb out of. He couldnât get out and nothing from the outside could get in.
Again, Iâm not blaming either of them for that. Or if I did, I would say theyâre both guilty. Neither of them was able to take the final step despite seeing how much they were making each other suffer. Overall, AkiUgetsu has beautiful parallels to how Mafuyu was (and still is) struggling with letting go of Yukiâs ghost and moving on with the precious memories still in his heart.
As someone who loves Ugetsu to death, the buildup that eventually led to their final break-up was probably the most heartbreaking part for me. Firstly, there was the time Ugetsu waited for Akihiko to come home.
How distracted and pained Ugetsu was by Akihikoâs absence spoke volumes of how close to Ugetsuâs heart Akihiko had managed to nestle over the years. Despite their first break-up, he loved Akihiko to death, and to finally come face-to-face with the possibility that Akihiko wouldnât come back must have felt like dying. Akihiko had seen parts of him that no one had probably ever seen before, and every one of those parts Akihiko had touched must have hurt.
I must admit, watching Ugetsu in so much pain while Akihiko was having fun with Haruki made meâŠangry. It wasnât fair. It wasnât fair that Akihiko is the one needing to be saved and was helped by Haruki while Ugetsu had no one to catch him. It wasnât fair that Ugetsu had become this suffocating thing for Akihiko despite loving him and someone Akihiko needed to get away from. So yeah, I was angry and bitter.
However, I want to stress that it was only because my heart was aching for Ugetsu. I donât hate Akihiko for trying to break free from his suffocating pit and finding someone who can restore his breathing. I donât hate him for wanting to see the fireworks again. Iâve been in his position in real life and know how freeing that time with Haruki must have felt. It was something he needed to do for himself. My frustration stems purely from my own bias for Ugetsu and how I relate to him. I donât hate Akihiko, Haruki, AkiHaru, or think the author somehow wronged the characters. I think it was rather realistic how it all went down.
What broke my heart for Ugetsu the most was that he was essentially left behind. I always feel for those kinds of characters. Despite waiting for Akihiko to finally leave, Ugetsu still panics when Akihiko tells him heâs going to move out.
Ugetsu had tried to leave Akihiko many times and been waiting for him to let go of Ugetsu. But when the time finally came, it was as if Ugetsuâs instincts kicked in and he lashed out. He wanted to stop hurting Akihiko but not being with him hurt even more because it was a sudden surge of pain instead of a steady undertone, so his knee-jerk reaction was to protect himself from that. And it was painful to come to realize that Akihiko was the one walking away. He had found something outside their basement apartment that was giving him the courage to leave Ugetsu. Iâm sure it all - the good and bad of their relationship - wrapped together in Ugetsuâs head, and to him, it felt like Akihiko was also walking away from how much he loved Ugetsu. It hurt, and he didnât want to hear it. It was him about getting mad at the person finally doing something they both knew had to be done.
Before I continue, I want to thank you, dear anon-san. I had been putting off reading the chapter about their final teary goodbyes for the longest time, but your ask finally gave me the push to get it over with. I had always known they were going to break up and I had seen panels of it floating around, but that part had always been an emotionally wrecking hump in Given that Iâve been avoiding. So, thank you for ripping off the bandaid for me.
To my surprise, their goodbyes werenât as painful as I had dreaded. It hurt my soul but it was painful in a different way than I had expected.
I could feel Ugetsuâs pain and bitterness in my teeth but also - and perhaps a bit surprisingly - Akihikoâs comfort for him despite what they were going through. He didnât want Ugetsu to think that while Akihiko was walking away from him, it meant he hadnât loved Ugetsu from the bottom of his heart. He had. He admired Ugetsu and cared about him, but their relationship was also partly why Akihikoâs own drive for music had been fading out. Akihiko had loved the violin more than anything and poured a lot of effort into it. And even though he was now playing a different instrument, he was never going to forget the violin or let that spark and passion, now rekindled, die out. He was going to keep at the violin but it was going to be to a different tune.
I think thatâs comforting. I didnât have the feeling of left behind for Ugetsu as strong in my heart anymore. Ugetsuâs love wasnât poison but something that had made Akihiko very happy in the past.Â
I also think it was very telling how Ugetsu still turned around to reach for Akihiko in the end.
It was that hard for him to let him go. Ugetsu feels big and deep, and his love for Akihiko was no different. Iâve always been grateful for Mafuyu and Ugetsuâs bonding. How Mafuyu had managed to affect Ugetsu was no doubt a big comfort in the turmoil of Akihiko leaving him. New dawns were breaking for both Ugetsu and Mafuyu, and it was scary and painful for both of them.
I was also comforted by how despite the pain AkiUgetsu had gone through, there had always been âmusicâ. It had surrounded them in the enclosed cocoon of the basement apartment and allowed them to be just for each other. Over the years, it had soaked in all their good times, memories, and their love for each other. And after Akihiko left, Ugetsu wished that the music alone would always remain in the house.
In conclusion, despite how much I ship AkiUgetsu, I would agree that their break-up made sense and was needed in the story. They were both unhappy in the relationship, and I donât know if there would ever have been a way to make them happy and content with each other. I believe they loved each other and they had a lot of happy times, but they were kind of heading towards a dead-end from the beginning. If Akihikoâs reaction to Ugetsuâs talent had been different or if they had found a solution by communication about their problems, they could have perhaps stayed together. But I donât know if any of those changes in characters would have been possible while they were still around each other.
And yet, I ship them. I ship them to hell and back. They are very much my jam. I love Ugetsuâs sensual darkness and him being a little mischievous and twisted. I love how big his emotions are and the contrast they create with his seemingly distant and hard-to-approach demeanor. I would kill human people for his genuine smile. I love Akihikoâs big build and rough appearances. I love his possessiveness and strength. I love how Ugetsu gets under his skin sometimes. I love how he can be both gentle and forceful with Ugetsu. I love how heâs made Ugetsu feel like he can trust Akihiko. I love the angst of them loving each but also kind of bringing out the worst in each other. I love them creating their own little world in that basement where itâs only them and music.
I just love them. Also, I canât wait for the movie to come out so I can have my AkiUgetsu heart ripped out of my chest in animation.
Thank you for your question, dear anon-san! (_ _) I hope it was worth the wait.

Pls... your top ten nisioisin characters... i love your lists...
I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT Â HOW MUCH I LOVE MY FAVES. IF YOU EVER ASK WANT TO ASK ME WHO MY FAVES ARE FOR A SERIES FEEL FREE TO SEND ME AN ASK.
My favorite thing about Niosisinâs characters is how genuinely subversive they are. Not in the sense that heâs deconstructing tropes, but rather these are characters who would never get their story told in most other books, because they are not good, or righteous. Nisioisin breathes life into them, and allows those who cannot be forgiven, those who are deviant, those who have dropped out of society to still remain human. He tells their stories the same as everybody else, because their lives are just as fun.Â
1. Even if Iâm hated, Even if Iâm Despised - Kumagawa MisogiÂ
Heâs only my favorite character of all time so Iâve talked about him on this blog before, but let me find something new to say. Oh Kumagawa, how do I love thee, let me count the ways. Or maybe itâs Oh Kumagawa, how do I despise thee let me count the ways.Â
Kumagawaâs character is so interesting because itâs written in antithesis of everything a shonen protagonist is. For Kumagawa, his determination just makes him fail worse and worse. His desire to be involved and help people always guarantees the worst result for the people he wants to call his friends. His empathy is extremely painful for him, and is a trait that drives him insane rather than making him a kind and loving person.Â
A lot of time in manga empathy is like, a magic fix-it-all bandaid that basically makes the main character a saint by being able to emotionally relate to anybody. Kumagawa is the reality of that situation. He is empathic, and by relating so much to the humans around him he shows how ugly, and messy human emotions can really be. Recovery and saving others isnât necessarily a beautiful thing, itâs complicated and sloppy.Â
Kumagawa is a character where getting stronger wonât solve any of his problems. Which is what happens in a lot of shonen manga, rather than trying to emotionally mature the main character will just learn a new fighting technique and develop that way. Instead, Kumagawa winning fights means absolutely nothing. The only thing that can free him is to grow up as a person, and the fact that Kumagawaâs arc is given equal weight to both of the main characters shows how accepting of weirdoes and broken off beat characters Nisioisin is as an author.Â
What I like about him is how genuinely broken he is, but not for monstrous reasons but for entirely human ones. Itâs his genuine care for others that breaks him the most. Heâs a character written to be insane, but also geniunely human. Kumagawa is not able to live properly, or even act like the main character like Zenkichi and Medaka are but heâs still able to find his own way to live.Â
2. I donât feel any reality from you people - Ajimu NajimiÂ
âGenius who is super good at everything, but is secretly sad and lonely on the insideâ is a pretty common Nisioisin trope. It tends to be pretty hit and miss with me, but it also resulted in one of my favorite characters of all time. I tend to like these types of characters more when theyâre allowed to be⊠whatâs the word⊠unlikable. When the story isnât trying to go on about how cool they are.
The reason why I love Ajimu is because she is just like Kumagawa, a subversion of the character you expect her to be. The same way Kumagawa suverts Zenkichi in a way, Ajimu subverts Medaka. The same way that Medaka is all loving, Ajimu is indifferent to absolutely everything. The reason sheâs able to be kind to everyone around her is because she genuinely doesnât care about you. Her real personality when not being apathetic, is to just be downright nasty and look down on absolutely everything.Â
Sheâs completely self absorbed because according to Ajimu sheâs the only one who exists in the universe. Sheâs the only one she knows for sure is real. The opposite of Kumagawa, a character entirely lacking in empathy, not even thinking of herself as human in any sense of the word. Ajimu acts like she knows everything in the story like sheâs reading off of the script, but thatâs because she literally thinks that everything in this world is fiction and sheâs literally breaking the fourth wall.
And my favorite part about Ajimu is that the story doesnât glorify her meta fourth wall shenanigans. Sheâs not treated as someone who sees through everything in the end. Sheâs just pathetic, and suicidal, and dragging everybody else along into her trillion year long self pity party. Sheâs more of a human failure than someone who canât possibly empathize with humans, and thatâs why I love her.Â
3. There ainât no meaning, got it? - Ii (Boku)Â
Ii-chan is the narrator of Nisioisinâs first ever series, Zaregoto (Lit. Nonsense). Itâs not really until the second book you get a grasp of his character, but Strangulation Romanticist does such an excellent job of setting up who he is as a person. This is another one of Nisioisinâs character types (narrator who feels ennui, and really, really doesnât want to be a person).Â
Whatâs great about Iichan is that he is special in a way. Just like heâs described in the books, when heâs thrown into situations everything goes a little bit crazy. He always gets dragged into mysteries, and has people die around him even though he tries to stay as uninvolved with people as possible. Heâs actually a great look at what a character constantly caught up in murder mysteries like the main character of a detective novel would actually act like. He has this deep rambling narration that sways between nihilism and existentialism that makes him a really unique character to read about.
But at the same time Iichan is also kind of a normal dude. And I donât mean in the sense that heâs an everyman, or has no personality, but he kind of just feels like one. The great twist of No Longer Human is that Yozo isnât some inhuman monster, heâs just kind of a normal guy who drowns out his misery by taking advantage of women. Like, itâs not all that uncommon. The same thing with Iichan, as poetic as he gets heâs kind of a very petty person and most of his flaws are very mundane ones.Â
Itâs basically very hard to care about other people in this world. Ii-chan doesnât want to at all, he just wants to have all of his emotional needs fulfilled by the friend he both infantilizes and puts on a pedestal. Heâs just super clingy about the one relationship he has in life, because heâs afraid of losing it, but heâs also afraid of being close to her. Ii-chan is just kind of a normal person reacting badly to trauma, but he presents himself as such a mystery that most people lose sight of that (in story). Heâs kind of just petty and annoying, and thatâs why I love him.Â
4. No Longer Human - Hitoshiki Zerozaki
Zerozaki is Iichanâs greatest character foil. Basically the best way to describe it is Zerozaki is Mersault. The flip that is switched on for everyone that prevents them from killing someone when the idea crosses their mind is turned off for Zerozaki, and so he kills. He doesnât enjoy it, he doesnât have a particular reason to it, he just canât overcome his impulse to kill. If Ii-chan is restrained, then Zerozaki never restrains any of his impulses at all and lives following only those.Â
Once again this is another common Nisioisin character archetype âA murder, but theyâre sad and lonely.â What I like about Hitoshiki is how much of a deviant he is to that archetype.Â
He wants a friend and somebody who understands him, but at the same time he hates himself so he doesnât want anybody too close. He lives in a family of murderers and heâs somehow the rebellious child of the family. Heâs constantly running away and wandering from place to place. What makes Zerozaki interesting is how self aware he is about all of this too. He rambles his thoughts and will just be like âYeah, so anyway thatâs totally fucked up (LOL).âÂ
 5. Is your life dramatic - Kaiki Deishuu
Kaiki is a character who I admire for his philosophy above all else. Heâs another one of those âdeviantâ characters like Kumagawa who would just be a villain to be defeated in any other narrative, but in this one he gets fully fleshed out as a character.Â
Whatâs interesting about Kaiki is that he chooses exactly the way he lives. He decides to be a villain. Kaiki at some point sees through most of the lies of the people around them, and for how meaningless the things that you are told have value can be. He hates holding onto ideas like those.
But that doesnât mean that Kaiki rejects everything. He doesnât claim to see above society, or that heâs not a part of society. Rather, Kaiki just uses that awareness to realize he can give meaning to whatever he personally finds meaningful. Because itâs all meaningless anyway, as a human being he can create his own meaning.Â
So his want of money is not just simple greed, itâs what heâs decided to live for. Kaiki is an adult who willingly chose to become a conman because he finds thatâs his place in society. He just doesnât trust himself enough to be kind despite feeling the same desire to save others, so he decided to lie to them and trick them instead.Â
6. âI donât know anything, youâre the one who knowsâ Oshino Ougi
Ougi is just interesting conceptually. They are literally Araragiâs own shadow, running away from him and given form and consciousness of their own. While Ougi themselves works as a common Jungian shadow archetype calling characters out for what they are repressing and also revealing the bare faced truth to them, which is why they are so heavily associated with mirrors, lights, and shadows.Â
My favorite part about Ougi however is not their connection to Araragi. Itâs when Ougi starts to become their own character. An oddity with consciousness that begins to deviate from what they were made for, because they were allowed to live on their own.
Ougi did not become a fave of mine until Zoku because that was when they started to self reflect and realize their own strange existence separate to Araragi. The conversation scene with Araragi is one of my favorite in the whole series because it shows how Ougi is just a genuine tease, and a very clever and insightful person. Thatâs who they are, outside of just being an oddity that exists to criticize others and call out flaws. Theyâre ridiculous, and a little strange, and they enjoy screwing with otherâs heads and messing around a bit too much. But Ougi Oshino is Ougi Oshino.Â
Itâs just an interesting concept, to have to define who you are as a person when you were created out of all of the unwanted qualities, and insecurities of another person.Â
7. Why are you touching me without permission, you weed - Yasuri Nanami
Nanami is another one of those âIâm a genius and Iâm good at everything but Iâm secretly sadâ characters, and once again what I love about her is how unlikable sheâs allowed to be. None of what Nanami is capable of comes off as cool for very long. Sheâs basically framed and treated as a horror movie monster, always speaking in the same monotone voice. The one story that shows her true nature in chapter four is literally, paced, framed, exactly like a slasher movie with characters being hunted down and killed one by one.Â
Nanamiâs just this horrible wretched existence that doesnât even want to be alive. She basically acts like frankensteinâs monster, ie, the one in the book. Sheâs just this corpse that is barely even alive in the first place, constantly sick and in pain, and sheâs also at war with herself. The part of her that wants to die and the part of her thatâs lonely and wants to find some reason to live, or some connection in life are constantly at war with each other.Â
And as horrifying as Nanami is she also feels like the most human of Niosisinâs, super-genius characters. Sheâs riddled with weaknesses and flaws. She lashes out when heâs in pain, she felt bad when her parents told her to die. You get the sense that Nanamiâs super genius isnât what drove her insane at all, it was just how everybody around her treated her as some thing that was not human. Isolation made her this way. She was conditioned to act this way not born inhuman. There are characters that Nisioisin writes that are genuine sociopaths (as in the trope of an unfeeling person unable to feel human emotions), but Nanami is not one of them and so when she starts acting with sociopathic-traits in her personality it makes her all the more painfully human because we see how sheâs been driven slowly to act this way.Â
7. *Yawns* Nezumi
Juuni Taisen is one of those death game stories where every character is defined by their one gimmick and written around their concept. In the original novel each character really only gets one chapter to be fleshed out as a character. I half suspect Nisioisin wrote it as a dare to himself on how much he could accomplish with one chapter.
The interesting part about Nezumi is his concept again. He can redo anything 100 times. You think this would make him amazing at anything in life because of his time loop ability, but physically having to live through all of those time loops exhausts him to the point that heâs too tired to do anything. You would think he could get anything he wanted out of life, but there are times he can ask a girl out one hundred times and get rejected one hundred different ways.Â
Nezumi is interesting because of how quietly he lives. Thereâs nothing he really wants out of life, and nothing he wishes for, like a rat he just scurries and survives.Â
9. I am currently being accused by everyone - Kakushidate Yakusuke
The same as Iichan and Kumagawa, Yakusuke is a guy who is just cursed by constant bad luck. What I like about Yakusuke is that heâs a full fleshed out character, instead of just an unlucky every dude protagonist.
Heâs a contract worker who is constantly shifting between jobs. Due to this fact heâs got like 1,000 skills that he gained on his various jobs. Heâs not smart, but because heâs experienced so much of life heâs incredibly resourceful. Which is why he makes a perfect counterpart and foil to Okitegami.
Yakusukeâs everyday life is him constantly being accused and blamed, and falling from one bad situation to the next. But, he has so much experiences that itâs what draws Okitegami to him who can only ever experience one day at a time because her memories will reset at the end of the day. Heâs exactly my type of man, a total failure at all walks of life.
10. This is your last chance, let me make you happy! - Kugi Kizutaka
Heâs so low on the list because his story âMagical Girl Ritsukaâ only has one chapter published in english, but heâs so interesting he instantly became a fave. Heâs actually a concept i have been looking for for a long time, which is basically what I describe as âReverse Junko Enoshima.âÂ
Basically someone as smart and manipulative as Junko Enoshima, who can make anybody into their toy, and predict things years in advance and control everything, but instead of using that power to send the world to despair, they use that power to give the world hope instead. Not out of any genuine good will or because theyâre a good person, but because theyâre obsessed with the idea of giving people happiness the same way Junko is with sending people to despair.Â
Kugi is a lot like that. Heâs a genius ten year old who sees everybody for their potential to be used, and looks down on absolutely everyone around him. Heâs made contact with a magical girl, because heâs pretty clearly planning on using her to enslave the world to him, so he can force everybody to be happy. And itâs absolutely adorable. Heâs just such a genuine terrible little person while at the same time wanting to make everyone happy.Â

Finished Main Story of SVSSS....
So yeah, I did that. I still really liked the story overall. Some parts are a bit problematic in a way, but also in a satisfying way that is complex and I think can refer to some real life relationships and complexities of that because not all relationships fit nicely into the little boxes and labels that we make and thatâs my take away from the ending.
-Donât like the in-story âoriginal authorâ still, but also donât dislike him as much as I did when I started the story now that I got more of his perspective. MXTX posted all of this for free not thinking it would go anywhere really, but itâs true that some people do have careers where they make a living off of their webnovels and fans buying chapters, so that pressure is there. Iâm sure that because MXTX is also a fan of D. Gray-man, sheâs aware of the similar pressures that even mangaka at JUMP face. Like BLEACH basically ended early because it fell out of popularity with the fans just as Airplane mentions happens to some novel works. To be fair, BLEACH also lifted an entire plotline from another popular supernatural manga including carbon copies of the lackeys of the villain for that arc, so some shade was also deserved. Like Yukio is just Amanuma Tsukihito with a PSP instead of an arcade system or Super Famicom. D. Gray-man itself has also been on hiaitus several times due to health concerns and such. Same as Hunter x Hunter and other prolific manga. The pressure is real and some ways the original author is kind of a mood. Heâs also still a huge coward and thatâs annoying.
-I feel worse for Shen Jiu than when I did when I was just reading his backstory off of the wikis and stuff from just wanting to see Shen Qingqiuâs beautiful face. Like I felt bad before, but after knowing more and witnessing some sentiments that would have been gut punches if Shen Jiu had heard them, I feel so bad for him. I donât condone what he did, but I also get it and wish I could hug him. Basically about the same level of thought as I put into how much I like Emet-Selch, but I think overall in the end I love Emet-Selch more because the 5.3 patch update for FFXIV broke me. Man, that MSQ. Like Iâve never been opposed to liking villains and always thought some villains were cool. Like my sister worships Sephiroth from FFVII for instance, but like I was never really into Sephirothâs motivations in that heâs cool, but his identity crisis didnât quite strike me as like actually 100% believable that torching Nibelheim and trying to rescue Jenova was justified or a natural reaction someone in his position would have. I like him more than Cloud cuz Cloud is a hot fucking mess of a person and heâs overall just cool, but as a villain his motivations didnât resonate with me. A lot of people also really liked Kefka because heâs just straight up insane and like chaotic evil, but that kind of evil just isnât compelling to me. Emet-Selch though straight up broke me and I thought about him for like months after the initial end of Shadowbringers when you do the fight with Hades. His story is ripe with meaning and nuance and the Tales from the Shadows stories adding more nuance and color to his eternal living torture of seeing remnants of people he cared about constantly without a break or a way to really âforgetâ and heal. That just stuck with me because Iâve lost people in my life too, and I remember what that was like and how hard it was to even live the day after let alone the following few years. I remember it well even today because it fundamentally changed me as a person, but I was able to find some relief and escape from music and entertainment and going out to have new experiences and travel. Emet-Selch could not, so his story really broke me internally. I bring this up just to make a comparison because I love Shen Jiu as well, but for nowhere near as dramatic a reason as I love Emet-Selch.
Spoilers under the cut
Okay, so since I was just talking about Shen Jiu, and maybe itâs partly because I actually find him to be gorgeous as well, but just reading his story did genuinely make me sad. I found his child form to be a little bit jaded already only because he was an older child already by the time he was bought by the Qius. When Yue Qingyuan was parting with him through the door he was being kind of manipulative there for extra sympathy initially, which isnât really great. How severely the brother beat him though was hard to take. It was so extreme, like wtf? And perhaps the part where Qiu Haitang said that heâd been âfreedâ and the part where he was engaged seems to be true-ish, but yeah her brother is kind of really fucked up in how he still talks to him even though he is supposed to be his brother-in-law soon? Like what the hell. But like, the summaries of what he did online and even what Haitang had said also made it sound even more cold than it was. Like once he got going yeah, the onslaught was kind of cold. But he still had a moment of shock where like he didnât really realize what heâd done right away and needed a moment to process. But after that it was like, well, itâs already done and people came to try to help the young master and he had to get out too. So the other people on the way out after that donât sound nearly as consequential and it was really striking that not only did he not attack Haitang, but he spared all the other women in the house. Like Jesus Christ, were *ALL* the men in the house including the male servants and other slaves they had assholes to him too? Just, wow. But we donât get a lot into what else happened there, but if the head of the household is bad and hurts him, itâs believable that other people join in just as Ming Fan joined in because Shen Jiu was complicit in allowing Bingheâs suffering. Really key though is the commentary of both the young master and his first evil master about his age.Â
That is such a huge chip on his shoulder because everyone keeps bringing it the fuck up. Including Qingge in another memory later on when heâs already Peak Lord. I know they donât like each other, but that was really mean. I realize Qingge probably doesnât care and that was the point to throw salt in his wounds because they donât like each other, but seeing how much it affected him by him breaking his fan with his hands after hearing that. Iâve had people do similar to me where they make an insensitive comment to try to hurt you without understanding the actual circumstances. My sister did that to me once and I reconciled with her for a bit, but decided not to talk to her anymore again because of some other bullshit with her friends being childish. But when she did similar to me, I never really forgave her for it either. My story is not nearly as dramatic, but basically I had quit a job where I was being bullied by coworkers at the start of the recession and I was looking for jobs, but no luck with anything I was qualified for even though I went on a few interviews. There actually werenât many listings posted around that time, so I would only be able to find a couple to apply to and by the time my sister came home Iâd be playing games to pass the time cuz I was bored out of my mind waiting for something to happen. So then we got in an argument for I forget the initial reason anymore, but she brought up how I âwasnât lookingâ for a job and just seemed to be âbeing lazyâ and I just got so pissed and yelled at her that she had no fucking idea what I was doing everyday and that I am looking and there isnât anything fucking there. I also lost it and threw a stool at her. Iâm not proud of it, but I totally get the mood of what it feels like for someone to use something that you are struggling with as a negative to throw in your face even though you are trying *SO* hard to do your best. I especially donât want to hear that from someone who gave up on their desired career that they were actually good at and making a decent living at for money and also canât tell when their friends are kissing up to them and crossing a line and wonât stand up to them for being shitty people. Teapot meet kettle, and donât throw stones if you live in a glass fucking house. I donât like low blows like that.Â
My personal family issue aside though, I felt a lot of empathy for Shen Jiu in that moment. Seeing how he interacted with Binghe on their first meeting after that though, like I was sad for Binghe too, but I can also see where his misunderstanding happened on top of his insecurity. I also kind of wonder if Qinggeâs comment also kind of encouraged this situation to happen. I still like Qingge because he makes up for it a lot later, but yeah that was fucked up.
The gut punch later was when Qingyuan was seemingly dying and tried to apologize to Qingqiu, but all the words and the things Shen Jiu needed to hear. His years of misunderstanding and not knowing and being in pain and thinking he was abandoned. That was painful. Shen Jiu is gone. We donât know where he is. Maybe heâs dead. No idea, but those are things he can never know. Itâs already too late, and thatâs crushing.
I still just really want to know more about Shen Jiu and I feel really sad that there wasnât some kind of redemption for him or anything. Even if itâs like Shen Yuan going into the recesses of his own mind and finds Shen Jiu locked in a box somewhere so actually the both of them share the same body and heâs just watching in a tiny TV what Shen Yuan does with his body. Heâd be really frustrated and would probably scream at him a lot with his screams completely unheard, but at least heâd get to see people liking him more and would be able to hear the words that Qingyuan spoke. I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw a theory about OG Qingqiu transmigrating into Shen Yuan when Shen Yuan takes over his body, and I think thatâs possible because Shang Qinghua says that when he transmigrated he was born there and was since a baby? I was thinking maybe itâd be more like OG dies when OG Binghe kills him and then becomes Shen Yuan, but who knows.
I mean, also I just crave more information about him. Heâs so unfortunate, and I like wish more went right for him so that he wouldnât be so miserable. Like when you see a character where their life is just shit on, you just wish that you could do something to take away their pain.
And with that sentiment, thatâs also why I found the ending to be satisfying but probably a little problematic. Like Shen Yuan is just a good guy and he has that same sentiment for Binghe just because heâs a poor kid with a shitty hand in life, but heâs also like really clearly not gay himself and not actually attracted to Binghe in that way. To be clear, the book does seem to discourage this kind of relationship in that it works in the way the narrative unfolded, but it isnât one that would work in real life really. Thatâs part of the depth of it though. Like SY emotionally cares for him and he even remarks that he feels kind of more like his Dad, but the physical side of their relationship is more on Bingheâs side than his, and he acquiesces to it because he feels bad for him because this poor child has no one. And yeah, fine this works in an actual book that weâre all reading and this works within the system within the book where the MC is in a book himself with really screwed up logic rules, but I donât recommend this method of getting with someone you like in real life. It will not end well. If someone you like is not into you, emotionally manipulating them and crying and also stalking them until they give their body to you out of desperation to console you is not the road to happiness. You also wonât have a pressure timer of life on earth ending by combining with actual hell to push them into bed with you. The fact that SY resorts to this in desperation in order to try to help Binghe to get control of the demon sword is admirable in the narrative of the story in that heâs doing it because he cares so much about this person and thatâs fine, but itâs a red flag if anyone did this IRL and put their wishes aside to appease someone else. There will be a breakdown in the future as one person puts aside their needs for the other one completely. Partnerships that work are healthy and equal. Thatâs not what this is. In the story, the two characters have an understanding though that makes it fine, but I have second-hand anxiety for the idea that anyone would try to replicate this. This is not normally healthy.
But at the same time, the fact that the characters have an understanding to that is unique to their personal choice is also realistic in a sense that life is sometimes complicated and a similar situation could come about, but it is the choice of the people involved. With constant communication thereâs a slim chance that maybe it could work out, but itâs hard. The main level of complexity Iâm thinking of is that thereâs different ways to care about other people or rather to just feel about other people. Like you can have like an intellectual attraction to other people in that you just like talking with them and youâre good friends with them because of that. You can be romantically attracted to someone, but also not feel sexual attraction too. Of course you can also feel physical attraction to someone, but not really care at all about them emotionally or even intellectually. SY has emotional feelings for Binghe, but itâs more on the parental side or even just human in not wanting him to suffer. If this were a points meter, his values for his emotions and just caring about him would be at max, while physical attraction and even romantic attraction are basically zero. Like he also just like cares about him in principle? Like as an all seeing reader you look at everything and are just like, wtf with this shit? How can one person suffer so much? As empthy or even sympathy you feel for them so then if the other person is more not asexual or aromantic that can trigger some feelings which is what happened between these two characters. The reason I say it isnât necessarily bad, but some shakiness on execution too. But like say like an asexual person is romantically attracted to someone who isnât asexual, but they still want to be with them. Like the non-ace person has some needs sometimes and even if the ace doesnât feel it, because they care about their partner they acquiesce to their partnerâs requests because they just want them to be happy. This kind of very personal choice situation I think is really similar to basically what ends up happening between SY Qingqiu and Binghe where SY isnât really interested, but at the same time cares about Bingheâs well-being so much that he actually just wants him to be happy and reluctantly is okay with the situation. IRL though Binghe would be REALLY FRUSTRATING to be so unreasonably needy and like narcissistically abusive in wanting him all to himself an isolating him from his friends and being jealous of them. In comparison, Wangji and Wuxian are a great deal more balanced in comparison, but I also really like this book for the original idea and the complexity of SYâs ultimate choice because I feel like itâs also a bit more real that some people do make that kind of choice. Itâs not healthy or guaranteed to be a success or happy experience, but itâs in the realm of possibilities for the kinds of personal choices people can make because the other personâs happiness is worth the minor discomfort.
Ah, I just have a lot of thoughts about this. Part of it stems from myself being ace also and what that means for me. But also getting to the end, I think Qingge is a fellow ace and also similar to me, just serious about his job and loyal to his crew.
Iâve read some of the extras obviously, but I havenât delved that deeply into the extra materials.
Oh also, I laughed so hard when Mobei-jun just tossed Shang Qinghua over like a chicken. It said like a chicken and it was hilarious. XD Like imagining that panicked sound of hucking chickens in Ocarina of Time.
Oh and ho-shit the alt punishment system came up for SY Qingqiu for screwing up his points. Got to live through half the process of becoming a human stick very painfully.
I guess part of me is still kind of just wondering how Binghe grew to be SO needy. Itâs to an unnecessary degree, but I guess without any real emotional or social guidance in the Endless Abyss that could happen?
Zhuzhi-Lang though is a really frustratingly annoying character, but I also like him at the same time. Iâm confused by him.
The only other thing Iâm like confused a bit about is like, so the 4 sects that are depicted with Cang Qiong Mountain being the top one are like the great four sects, but like...where are they? Iâm just asking because of the kind of meta general landscape of what cultivation and Taoism is like some of the events that happen I would think actually would call down some interference from actual Heaven. Like in the classic lit, whenever thereâs huge disturbances down in the Human World, like the Heavenly Palace and like the Jade Emperor are like, âWHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?â and go send people. I find it really hard to believe that such a disaster as the combining of two realms would be ignored by the armies of Heaven and like Nezha, Erlang Shen, and other notable actual deities up there would come down and be like, âThe fuck you guys doing down here with these shenanigans?â Also, Journey to the West is like one of the most like influential books in the canon of Chinese lit and is regarded as literally one of the Four Great Classics. But none of these fools in these âgreat four sectsâ know how to stamp a floor and call up the local deity to tell you what the hell is happening in Jinlan City instead of sending your disciples to die? Sun Wukung did that at like every damn city and then also threatened to beat them if they like werenât doing their job properly. Those minor deities are on the payroll for Heaven, so like...use them? Like I feel like they would know this too because like the ultimate goal for cultivation is to be able to become an immortal and end up on the payroll? I know Qingqiu is supposedly like mid-level or something, but like I think they should like know-ish where theyâre going? Like in the future they would become one of those minor gods making records? Are they like not high enough to even talk to them? Maybe not, but I do think like Nezha, Pagoda Bearer Li, or Erlang Shen would definitely come down and be like, âHey, whatâs going on?â
Also like, Shen Jiu isnât a great character and how he treats his disciples is bad and what he did was bad. But like, also, what is the standard to judge him really? Like Nezha was a dick when he was a child too. When he was 3 he went to a river and was swimming and liked killed all the fish and then a dragon prince came out and was like, âWTF? Why are all the fish dead?â and then Nezha instead of answering him kills him and guts him and then takes his tendon home to turn into a belt. Then like his Dad gets a complaint from the Dragon King like, âHey, my son is dead! Your son did it. Hand him over so I can kill him or I destroy your town.â So then Nezhaâs Dad goes to talk to him and is like, âWhatâre you doing?â And then Nezha answers him and tells him exactly what he did like it was no big fucking deal that he killed the local Dragon Prince and made him into a belt. Obviously thereâs an argument and like Nezha basically rage quits his life and is like, if youâre so concerned about this bullshit I return this body to you and kills himself to cut off his ties to his parents. He was a rude little shit. Then he went into his Momâs dream and threatened her until she built him a temple so he could get prayer requests until he could be reborn again. His Dad found out and wrecked the temple, so then he went up to go find his master who had him be reborn using lotus flowers. After that after being reborn, Nezhaâs first order of business was to go back to his family and try to kill his own father for fucking up his temple and chased him down EVERYWHERE until other powers in Heaven, decided to send down Nezhaâs older brothers with a pagoda to give to their Dad that would trap and burn Nezha everytime he tried to murder him. Is this better or worse than what Shen Jiu did? This is an actual god that people worship. A quite prominent and very famous one. Nezha is also one of my favorite deities and I had a huge crush on the Nataku from Fujisaki Ryuâs Houshin Engi manga who has mostly the same backstory as deity Nezha, and I just loved him in high school. He was a good guy. What are the standards here people? I donât think anyone in any story in China can really judge someone like Shen Jiu doing an understandable level of murder as a response to trauma and severe abuse when they worship a deity that suffered nothing and tried to commit patricide and had a severe disregard for other life. In the cultivation world, potentially, this could be their future boss. I think arguably, he could be worse than Shen Jiu, but heâs a canonical real deity.
The above tirade for me is like a thing I feel like I would have said if I was in the position to be alive in Jinlan City and wanted to defend Shen Qingqiu cuz WTF.
Further, Iâm a huge fan of Jigoku Shoujo and Enma Ai did much the same after her cousin saved her from being sacrificed, the villagers found out, buried her a live, made her cousin help bury her alive, and then she came back as a vengeful spirit and set the whole village on fire and killed everyone except maybe her parents who had their souls as prisoners by Enma himself? Canât 100% remember. But like, on the scale of characters I like that have done terrible things, Shen Jiu is actually relatively low and under some people that are good guys.

Top Fave Fandoms
@akai-vampire tagged me in one of these fun little tag games. Thanks darlin! <3 <3 <3 I appreciate the thought!Â
Rules:  Name your top 10 fav character from 10 different fandoms (and tag 10 people). Â
Most people are putting in .gifs for each fandom... but I wrote a ... well a paragraph about my experience in each fandom instead because I am feeling some deep sort of nostalgia these days and felt like reflecting... so its all under a read more tag if you are interested in my ramblings.Â
In order of my own discovery, and not importance!Â
Twilight: Team Edward. donât @ me, it was my first fandom experience and I wrote SO MUCH fanfiction before I knew it was even a thing. I published it on DeviantART thinking I was so clever, and finding fanfic dot net was WILD. My interest in that fandom was immediately crushed dead the day after Breaking Dawn was officially released and I realized I had read better fanfiction then what cannon gave me. I never even saw the movies because my interest was just gone. *shrugs* But the re-emergence of Twilight recently is giving me life.Â
Teen Titans: BBRae... Then RobRae.... then RaeX.... then StarRae... then CyRae... listen.... Raven deserves all the love and attention??? Also, I was in this fandom back when the original series was being released and was in complete denial when it got canceled. And for years I was just reading fanfiction that had been completely abandoned as fanfiction authors just kinda disappeared one by one? It was like, interacting of pieces of history left behind in a void. I was still deep in the Teen Titan fandom when Teen Titans GO! Got released. So during that very very long time of zero new content, I got to re-evaluate all of my fanfiction standards and completely read most every single Teen Titan fic ever written in my thirst for more. Suddenly ships didnât matter as much to me, Iâd take anything and everything. So when Teen Titans GO! Came out, I LIKED IT AND STILL DO. I still think the years and years and years of being in the Teen Titans fandom and being pretty damn isolated from social interaction kinda ruined me for fandoms that are still alive. Social fandom interaction??? hahahahaha, whats that???Â
Akagami no Shirayukihime: Obiyuki... this was a complete accident and I only fell into this fandom because my fave Teen Titans fandom author was writing for it, and I was reading the fanfiction without ever seeing the show, and like, kinda loved these characters a TON??? Oh no??? Real talk, I read most of the fanfiction published by the fandom before ever actually watching the actual tv show or reading the actual manga. But the fanfiction was so good and so engaging and I was learning all about these characters through this mystery game of putting all the parts together by all the different authors??? I loved learning about these characters through the people who love them the most, and it was magical. But then that became my dirty dark secret as I was suddenly welcomed into one of the most kindest and generous online communities I have ever met??? I have nothing but absolute love for the Obiyuki fandom and family. I had never experienced that kind of community before and looking back on it I still donât think it was real, stuff like that you can only dream of sometimes. I sat down and actually read that manga and Fiona sat with me so that I watched the tv series so that I could properly engage with them because I liked the people so much. And when life hit me square in the face and I had a complete mental breakdown in grad school, and socializing with people online would give me complete anxiety attacks... and I had to step away from it. But I still mourn loosing that, and I keep trying every so often to see if I can interact again but I fear some chapters just close, and I hold the time I had with it, and the memories from then very lovingly. I will finish those fanfictions though. Even though I have no idea what has happen in the manga anymore I want to at least finish those stories like what they deserve.Â
Miraculous Ladybug: Love Square. Sooo much love square. All the love square. Only the softest, gentlest, most innocent fluff to cope with the world and all my anxieties, and this stupid show gave me all of that. Plus, there was so much fanfiction to choose from that I was actually able to use tags and warnings to be able to navigate finding things that were safe and not feeling like my options were limited? It was so good to me. I also had never actually watched this show, and was only reading fanfiction of it for... honestly a full year. And when I did actually watch the first 2 seasons... I still didnât watch the new episodes when they got released, because I much prefer watching the fandom loose their collective mind and getting to play the mystery game of what the hell happened in the show according to the little spoilers and the things people were screaming about. It was fun spectating, and putting it all together. Then reading the fix-it fanfiction and being like âwhoa wait, hold up CANON DID WHAT???â ... Honestly I am pretty certain I still havenât seen at least 10 episodes. But I know everything that happened now! Have I mentioned that I have an insane amount of anxiety of actually watching tv shows on my own? I must have company or else it will never happen. Shout out to Fiona for sitting down and watching Ladybug episodes with me while I screamed into a pillow. And for the record, I did start writing a fanfiction for this one. But I learned my lesson and decided not to post anything until it was finished so I didnât have to live with the guilt of yet another unfinished story to my name. It was a little mermaid AU, and Adrien is the mermaid princess obviously, while Marinette is a badass pirate. It was fun to outline and write like, 3 chapters but i doubt I will ever actually finish it.Â
Greek Mythology: Hades/Persephone. Yoooo this is my current thing. I am living for the walking contradiction of the powerful stern Lord of the Underworld falling for a little tiny goddess of Spring... and then finding out the little tiny ray of sunshine is really a complete force of nature to be reckoned with and he just crowned her Queen of the Dead. Beautiful. Poetry. *chefs kiss* Also. I DONâT HAVE TO WATCH ANYTHING. AND ALSO. ITS AN ANCIENT STORY SO LIKE, NO SPOILERS TO NAVIGATE. lol. But honestly this is just a re-awakening of little middle school Becca who was obsessed with the Odyssey and was learning how to throw pottery so that she could actually date her pots, to help out the archaeologists in the future. (honest to god, that one of my main motivations as a little 6th grader making her first pots on wheel) And she was making these super shitty small greek pots and giving them to her English teacher because her English teacher loved the Odessey too. And then Greece had a complete economic collapse and crushed all of baby-Beccaâs dreams to get to travel to Greece and see the greek pottery. And she delt with that heartbreak by pretending it didnât matter and went and found other cool pottery to fall in love with instead. But now its back with a vengeance and once again Beccaâs plans to go to Greece got destroyed by yet another economic collapse but this one is just Pandemic style. I am going to get to Greece so help me gods. And yes, I have written fanficiton for this one too, and its honestly like, pretty fleshed out and written down heavily in my notes. I just have to like, type it all out and polish it. But, we will see. I am not allowed to have nice things until I finish the stories that are already posted. :[Â
Hadestown: Hades and Persephone, love that made the world go round. This gets its own bullet because its a different category because its a Musical even if its also a Greek Myth. And talk about reading all the fanfiction before seeing the source material. But isnât that the case with most Broadway musicals? LOL. But its okay, I actually went and SAW the musical for this one, and once again, Fiona joined me. Iâm starting to wonder if my Fiona is just my fandom anxiety buddy. Also shout out to the Rona for canceling my plans to see it again, not once, but twice now. (I have to go back because I didnât get to see Amber Gray perform the first time, and hello I am obsessed with Persephone she is my favorite and I really really really just need to hear Amber growl in person okay???) I do have nightmares that she has left the show for good and I will never see her perform Persephone. Like legitimately have had that nightmare multiple times this week. I am just recently trying to navigate the Hadestown fandom on tumblr and still fumbling around with that. No fanfiction for this one yet, but I am making fan-pottery so like. That counts.Â
Aaaaand you only get 6 fandoms because these are the only 6 that truly matter. Anything else I have been interested in has only been a passing fancy and never one of the true hyperfixations. Also if you got this far and actually read everything, well done, I am impressed. Thanks for taking interest in my ramblings. <3Â
If I am tagging you its cause I want to play the game, donât feel pressured if you donât want to play. <3

BnHA Chapter 177: Construction Site Clash
Previously on BnHA: Deku confronted Gentle outside of a tea shop. Gentle sprang into action and revealed his quirk: elasticity. Basically heâs Monkey D. Luffy but instead of making himself stretchy and bouncy, he can do it to anything he touches, including the ground and even the damn air. Deku charged at him and promptly got flung waaaay back, but Gentle and La Brava realized how strong he is (and La Brava recognized him from his batshit insane fight against Todoroki in the sports festival where he broke all off his fingers just to prove a fucking point) and tried to run, not wanting to go toe to toe with him. Probably a good call, because after getting bounced into the air, Deku -- thinking about Eri and Jirou and everyone else whoâs been looking forward to the cultural festival -- unleashed his new long-range Delaware Smash: Air Force attack. Then he grabbed Gentle by the collar and flung him into a fucking building. Damn, Deku.
Today on BnHA: Deku has a weird conversation with Gentle while the latter dangles from a construction beam. Gentle tries to reason with Deku and explain how his plan is somehow going to be a win-win situation for everyone. Deku calls bullshit and then lies and says the authorities are on their way, so Gentle cheerfully leaps back into action and starts using his quirk to springboard all over the place Gran Torino style so that Deku canât get in a clean shot. He then tries to drop a giant steel beam onto a hapless old man, forcing Deku to jump in and save him. While heâs occupied, Gentle and La Brava take the opportunity to flee. We get an update on the time -- itâs now 8:45 a.m., t-minus 15 minutes to the start of the festival -- and then we cut back to Deku, who gets real mad and lifts the beam with only one fucking hand while aiming another air gun attack at Gentle with the other. La Brava is all âoh shit this kid doesnât give upâ and says that sheâll have to use her quirk.
(As always, all comments not marked with an ETA are my unspoiled reactions from my first readthrough of this chapter. Iâve read up through chapter 202 now, so any ETAs will reflect that.)
you guys. itâs February 3rd 2019 and Iâve just watched the worst, most mind-numbingly boring Superbowl in history. wtf was that. BnHA please help me wash the bad taste out of my mouth please and thank you
lmao oh my god
do you guys remember that scene from Avengers where Bruce Banner wakes up in an abandoned building and Harry Dean Stanton thoughtfully gives him some pants. for some reason this reminded me of that. âwell then, son, youâve got a conditionâ
now La Bravaâs running over from a nearby roof and sheâs all âDONâT WORRY ABOUT IT POPSâ
she says theyâre just shooting a film, and sheâs asking him to let the neighbors know as well
well this is the most transparent lie of all time
(ETA: or is it just transparent enough to work!)
and even sheâs thinking that itâs probably not going to buy them much time and that their plans have basically been foiled and they have to retreat
and now weâre cutting to inside of the building
on the one hand, itâs a cool setting and conveniently empty so that no one will get hurt! but on the other hand, this looks like the perfect place for someone to land the wrong way on a rebar and get accidentally impaled. please no one get impaled. we had enough impalings in the last arc
Dekuâs thinking grateful thoughts about Mei and flashing back to when she gave him the details about his new gloves
yeah Iâm just going to post this, not even gonna try and sum it up
(ETA: might wanna think about using a different font in the future if you want to avoid any confusion when typing out the word âflickâ, Jaimini)
she sure knows a lot about his OFA capabilities, huh? thankfully sheâs the type who gets so caught up in whatever sheâs currently focused on that she would never in a million years note the many, many similarities between Dekuâs quirk and All Mightâs
also, interestingly, Deku is thinking a âthank youâ to Mina as well!
because he apparently incorporated her âspecial dance trainingâ into his attack?? omg what. âdance-off, bro. you and meâ
Gentle is such a wacky fellow he might actually do it too
oh my lord
see what I mean
also hush, Deku. itâs called âflairâ okay?
now Gentle is grinning like a loon and saying that heâll execute his plan no matter what. âthis is my resolveâ
your resolve is stupid, Gentle. there, I said it. I love you but you lost this one pal. stop trying to attack a bunch of teenagers who are just trying to have a fun and wholesome time at school
Dekuâs yelling at him. âyouâre no gentleman!â
wow, harsh Deku
now heâs asking what Gentle is planning
meanwhile La Brava is hopping the fence and entering the construction site, and this overly trusting man from earlier has been completely fooled
lol she should just make something up. âuh...â [okay, just be cool, La Brava. just pick something reasonable] â...Animal Planet.â [nailed it]
now sheâs sprinting over to where Deku and Gentle are and getting ready to film again
lol
so Deku is telling him that the school is on high security alert and the alarms will sound even before he can get in and heâll definitely be caught, and on top of that the festival will be called off
this motherfucker is genuinely trying to negotiate with him lmao
Dekuâs all âTHATâS EVEN WORSEâ and Gentle is all âlol yeah I guessâ omg
and now he (Gentle) is all âwell, so thatâs my plan, now if you donât mind Iâd like to get back at itâ
oh snap
well at least heâs a better liar than La Brava
uh oh, Gentle is activating his quirk again it looks like
heâs springboarding off the floor and shouting âBEGONE, STUDENT OF U.A.â
outstanding use of the word âbegoneâ, Gentle my good man
anyway, so heâs bouncing around and Deku is watching and trying to predict his movements
and Gentle is getting ready to springboard again
that probably isnât good for the building
-- oh for fuckâs...
so all that time training with Gran Torino was for nothing?
wtf, now what??
did he just get hit? whatâs going on
Gentle is saying âif you can use an air bullet, allow me to counter with an air barrierâ
wait, what? so is the idea to reflect Dekuâs attack back on him?
oh wait. or did Deku just walk into an elastic patch of air and get bounced back? is that what it is?
La Brave is telling Gentle that they need to retreat, and yeah they really should
but instead, Gentle is removing a bolt from one of the beams
did he do that with his bare (well, gloved, but you know what I mean) hands?? just like that? either this construction is shoddy as hell, or else this is the single most unrealistic thing Iâve ever seen in this manga about kids with superpowers and bird heads and astronomical high school entrance exam budgets
anyway, now heâs bouncing on the beam and itâs vibrating
he says he canât consciously deactivate his quirk
interesting. also potentially pretty dangerous and certainly inconvenient
but objects turn back to normal given a little time
and thatâs whatâs happening with this beam oh snap
well but I mean, as soon as you manhandled that screw loose -- did he use his quirk for that? is that why it was so easy? -- it was pretty clear what you intended to do
and by the way, dropping a steel beam onto a 16-year-old is pretty damn metal for someone whoâs supposedly a gentleman villain
oh shit wait
damn, dropping it onto an unsuspecting old man whoâs not even a fighter is even more metal
but thankfully Deku is Deku
nice, Deku
now heâs getting all outraged and âDID YOU JUST TRY TO DROP IT ON THAT INNOCENT OLD MANâ
oh, Gentle
câmon, Gentle. câmon. you tried to kill a dude. just admit it. that was not nice
(ETA: is La Brava still filming all this?? did the cops eventually get this footage? Gentleâs gonna be put away for attempted fucking murder. sorry dude)
now the old dude is finally running away, and meanwhile Gentle seemingly intends to just leave Deku here...?
ffff now heâs making the crane bendy??
and heâs telling Deku heâs sure someone will find him. lol what the hell is he going to do
Dekuâs thinking to himself that theyâre going to infiltrate the festival at this rate, and he has to act
omg yay weâre cutting back to 1-A!
lmaooooo Kaminari really didnât end up sleeping a wink, huh. he was so hyped up
BAKUGOU, PUT ON YOUR T-SHIRT!! WE MADE IT JUST FOR THE OCCASION!!
I wish I could read what they say underneath the A? Tokoâs shirt seems to start with âBNâ (if they say bnha I s2g), but Momoâs shirt looks different. maybe an error though
(ETA: so as we eventually learn, they say âA Bandâ, and the delightful story behind this exceptionally creative name is the topic of todayâs omake!)
the dancing team is also getting dressed, and theyâve got their own special costumes which are cute but Iâm not gonna post the panel because Mineta is ruining it. how come no one ever drops a steel beam on him
Shouto is wearing one of the class A t-shirts, so I guess the staging team is rocking those too
anyway heâs asking where Deku went, and Aoyama says he went to buy rope
and now Shoutoâs âis my boyfriend in dangerâ senses are tingling
this is a reasonable concern because as we all know, if you leave Deku alone for more than five minutes he will inevitably run into a villain. in hindsight they never should have let him leave
meanwhile Aoyama is already thinking about backup plans, oh damn
fully serious, if you combined Aoyamaâs ingenuity with Minaâs theyâd make a pretty unstoppable team. these kids are creative as fuck
ohhh, Gentle was just using the crane to launch himself and La Brava into the air towards U.A.
damn, dude doesnât even care that Deku supposedly put out the alert. he says that if they make it in even with U.A. on the lookout for them, his name will become even more recognized
what are you trying to accomplish though, dude, in all seriousness? do you know whatâs going to happen if U.A. suffers another break-in after all of the security measures they supposedly put in place, and after they insisted on holding the cultural festival despite police objections? theyâll be fucking shut down is what. this will be the third villain incident in less than six months. people are not going to be happy about that. best case, theyâll be allowed to stay open but with a ton of restrictions in place. basically youâll make it harder than ever for them to do their job, when right now the world needs them more than ever. theyâre raising the next generation of heroes here, and this is a post-All Might world. so maybe just cut them some slack, jesus christ
and now weâre cutting back to Deku, straining under the beam
come on Deku, you got this. powerlift this bitch
LOL OHHHHH SHIT
WHY DIDNâT YOU JUST PUT IT DOWN YOU NIMROD LMAO. âLOOK AT ME, IâM DEKU, ALL MIGHTâS SUCCESSOR! I CAN LIFT STEEL BEAMS WITH ONE HAND AND FIRE AIR CANNONS AT VILLAINS WITH THE OTHERâ
oh damn. and it seems weâre finally going to get to see La Bravaâs quirk! about fucking time. bring it
BONUS: what should we name the band?
âElectric Spark Kidsâ, Kaminari? really?? you really do just blurt out whatever the fuck pops into your head huh. (actually tbh this is my favorite name out of all of them)
Tokoyami has a fucking obsession with banquets. I really want to know how he ended up latching onto this out of all the â___ of darknessâ things he could have possibly chosen. fwiw I did find out there is a song called Banquet in the Darkness which I havenât actually listened to because the album art alone is frankly terrifying to me and I somewhat regret having looked this up
there is also a band called Ore, though I assume itâs intended to be the English definition of the word rather than Bakugouâs intended meaning. but it just goes to show you that itâs impossible to be original anymore no matter what you do
and then Momo is just... itâs a band... representing class A... band... A... band... A Band? and Jirou is just like OMG THATâS THE GREATEST IDEA EVER despite the fact that it clearly is the most half-assed idea anyone has ever come up with. she just loves Momo that much. and is also desperate to stop the boys from coming up with any more suggestions lmao
by the way I just want to say that all of the kids are absolutely adorable in this sketch and itâs easily one of my favorite omakes for that reason alone. so stinking cute omg
#bnha#boku no hero academia#midoriya izuku#gentle (bnha)#la brava#bnha spoilers#mha spoilers#makeste reads bnha#I honestly don't know why todoroki is the only one going 'but guys where's midoriya'#it's like they haven't learned a damn thing#something important is about to happen and deku's missing?#what are you all waiting for#sound the alarm#spoiler alert: it's villains#some villains are up to no good yet again and deku is involved because of course he is#maybe one of these days they'll figure this out#in the meantime you keep honing those instincts shouto

My Top 10 Favourite Anime (And Why You Should Watch Them)
This is normally something I would put on my main blog, but I wanted to celebrate a follower milestone and also I know this will reach a significantly wider audience on this blog.
Consider this both a list of recommendations and a *get to know me* thing, I guess.
Honourable Mentions:
Bakemonogatari: A really stylized show about a semi vampire helping people with their supernatural afflictions born from emotional issues. The subsequent seasons get a little questionable, but this is definitely a standalone story with great dialogue and visuals. (15 eps)
Shiki: Creepy story about a small town infested with vampires. Really brutal and sick, but it has fascinating themes. The pacing is a bit slow and it has a kind of bad scene towards the end, but the show is 100% worth it. (24 eps)
Cardcaptor Sakura: Because this is mostly aimed at younger viewers, I would only really recommend this show for either magical girl fans, or people who watched the extremely altered dub as a kid. That being said, its a cute, fun show about magic with a likeable cast and surprisingly creative and original ideas, especially towards the latter half. (70 eps)
Jojos Bizarre Adventure 4: Diamond is Unbreakable: Full disclosure, I have not seen the first 3 jojo series, but its not necessary to enjoy this show. This is a super creative and really fun series about superpowered badasses in a strange city fighting each other and trying to solve a murder mystery in the background. Weird, but in the best way. (39 eps)
Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus: This should be higher on the list, but in truth I would recommend the manga way over the show. But, if you want to watch a supernatural horror/comedy without reading a 138+ chapter manga, OR you were a fan of the original Black Butler seasons and want to see something way better, give this a watch. (10 eps)
*drumroll*
10. Trigun
So Trigun takes place is this old west, yet mysterious science fiction-y world where, through a bunch of complicated scenarios, a pacifist is the most wanted criminal known to man. Due to his status as a ânatural disaster,â two insurance workers are tasked with reining him in to save their business. Itâs an incredibly charming series, and the protagonist is really likeable. Itâs extremely creative, funny, and emotional near the end. I do have some problems with the ending because it almost seems like the final conflict just...solves itself, but thatâs a nitpick. The first episode is basically a short film, so give that a watch and see how you feel. (26 eps)
9. Paranoia Agent
This was directed by the late and great Satoshi Kon and has his usual themes about the blurring between fiction, dreams, and reality. Itâs about a string of mysterious assaults committed by a kid with a baseball bat, and how these assaults seem to solve the problems of the victims. Itâs very arthouse and has a twist that makes me ball my eyes out even though itâs not sad itâs just...odd and overwhelming. It drags a bit near the middle, but if you like kind of surreal stuff thatâs also just really good, you have to watch this show. (13 eps)
8. Baby Steps
The amazing thing about this show is that its premise is specifically designed to make me hate it. Itâs about a nerdy teenager who starts to play a sport for the sole sake of getting fit and having a more well rounded life style, and also he has a crush on this really popular girl. That sounds fucking awful, but the main character is actually really likeable (he reminds me a lot of Deku from BNHA) and I swear to fucking god every time I thought this show was going to do something awful and cliched with its romantic comedy plot, it doesnât. The beauty and the geek trope is still there, but all of the bullshit that comes with it is omitted in a way I feel was kind of self-aware. The sports aspect is really good too: itâs well paced and thereâs lots of tension even though the show as a whole is really upbeat and pleasant. I had a blast watching it, and if you can make it past the fact that is has god awful animation, give it a watch.
7. Higurashi: When They Cry
Yet another great show with absolute garbage animation. Anyways, this show is about a group of teenagers in a small town who are unknowingly trapped in a time loop. In each loop thereâs a bunch of new mysteries, as well as some extremely brutal murders and tortures experienced my the main cast. Iâve seen a number of Western shows (Orphan Black, BBC Sherlock, Lost, Supernatural, etc.) fall apart because the writers want a really clever and intricate mystery to play out, but they donât want to actually put the time into crafting one, so itâs just a bunch of cliffhangers with no answers or pay off. THIS SHOW SUCCEEDS AT WHAT ALL OF THOSE OTHER SHOWS FAIL AT. While not all of the answers are great (the second season isnât as good) the original author somehow made the worldâs most ludicrously complicated mystery story work, with a lot of it relying on the audience to put all of the pieces together even when the characters canât. Its very clever in doing that: it makes its audience feel smart. It also has themes that donât really show up in other horror stories, even though theyâre incredibly relevant to fear and violence. Great show, go watch it. (50 eps)
6. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Everyone knows about this show, everyone says itâs great, and everyoneâs right. If youâve been living under a rock for ten years: the show is about two brothers who break an alchemy taboo, which destroys their bodies, Theyâre on the hunt for something to restore them to normal and along the way they meet like 8990354578579 characters with interesting stories. Itâs tightly written and really gripping. Itâs fun, but also really dramatic and emotional when it needs to be. My only problems with it are that the ending is reaaaallllly convoluted, and thereâs a minor plot point earlier on that gets weirdly dropped, but everyone kinda forgets about those things because the showâs so good. Also the brotherly bond makes me cry. (64 eps)
5. FLCL
I honestly donât even know where to start with this show because it has the unique property of being the only show I have ever seen that I have literally no problems with. Not even nitpicks. There is nothing wrong with this show; itâs perfect. The only reason itâs not number 1 is because some other shows have more ideas or more fleshed out characters. So this arthouse spastic comedy is about a boy who is disappointed with all of the adults in his life, then some chick hits him in the face with a guitar and giant robots from a secret facility start coming out of his head. Itâs fucking wild and has like 30 different aesthetics and I love all of them. Itâs the best looking show Iâve ever seen and one of the best directed. It feels like someone read a really weird poem and turned it into a 6 episode show. Itâs funny, itâs emotional, itâs cartoony, itâs beautiful, itâs raunchy, itâs poetic, itâs silly, itâs creative, and itâs got strong themes. The wtf visuals, the nonsensical plot, and the amazing soundtrack make an aesthetic experience more than anything. (6 eps)
4. Princess Tutu
I already made a post about this show and why itâs good, which you can check out here, but the gist is itâs a meta fairytale about a duck that turns into a girl to help a storybook prince find his emotions. I used to love stories that were âtwists on fairytalesâ or whatever, but after watching this show I realized that the genre is pretty derivative. This show is so amazing it honestly made me reevaluate an entire genre and come to the conclusion that this is the only member of that genre worth watching. Itâs truly creative and well crafted with fantastic characters. (26 eps)
3. Hunter x Hunter (2011)
This show is basically a bunch of creative ideas, unique set pieces, and interesting characters stacked on top of each other in a trench coat disguised as a narrative. Itâs about a perky shonen protagonist and a child assassin becoming friends while also trying to become hunters (a position involving vast wealth and adventure). Itâs in a modern fantasy setting so literally anything can happen. In one arc they have to play life-or-death dodgeball against robots, and another is an insanely epic tale about the intense evil that people are capable of (feat. a 25 episode climax). I canât even talk about all of the themes or ideas because there are just too many. Because of itâs wild, sprawling story, it has a lot of ass pulls and retcons, but in the grand scheme of things they donât really matter. Itâs long, but super easy to watch in huge chunks. (148 eps)
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion and The End of Evangelion
The most efficient way to describe this show is to say that itâs the most interesting show ever made. Itâs about an apocalyptic future in which emotionally disturbed teenagers must pilot giant bio-machines to fight monsters which are referred to as angels. Itâs got deep characters, a creative story, and is probably the most well directed show Iâve ever seen. The ending infamously fell apart due to production problems, so thereâs a movie called The End of Evangelion to conclude the story. Itâs a very disturbing arthouse movie, so watch out for that, but the show as a whole is moooosssstly more straightforward and fascinating, This is an absolute must watch. (26 eps and 1 movie)
1. Baccano!
Baccano! takes place in 1930s New York, and is about thieves, gangsters, criminals, terrorists, alchemists, and immortals interacting in this nonlinear comedy/action thrill ride. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster while watching this show. Itâs the perfect blend of action, comedy, romance, drama, horror, and creative storytelling. Itâs fantastic to rewatch since the first episodes barely make any sense without context (but are still an absolute joy to watch). Itâs got great characters and itâs a great story. Go watch it. And then watch it again. (13 eps and 3 OVAs)
Thatâs it for this list! Check out my MAL page for more recommendations if youâre interested and have a great night!Â

A recorded message from author Kentaro Miura to fans of Berserk
(Google)Translated from an unofficial transcription/translationÂ
Hello. I would like to thank all of you, old fans and new, for supporting me all of these years. It really means a lot to me and my team to know people still like this series even after all these years. And so, with a heavy heart I have to say I am quitting Berserk. Yes, this may seem sudden and poorly timed, but I do have my reasons.
For one, I have been drawing messed up sh*t for over half my life and that stuff starts to get to you. Like at first it was fun, seeing the horrible dark side of humanity, but after a while it just became tiring. I had nightmares about things I had created and no amount of comic relief would help. I added comic relief character after comic relief character and nothing helped.
From the very beginning there was Puck, who was a funny, but insightful elf who brought a little levity. He was to make sure things didnât get too dark, but after the Lost Children chapter and itâs literal piles of dead children I decided there needed to be more, so I added Isidro. With Isidro and Puck I thought for sure the nightmares would stop, but they kept coming, so I reduced Puck to purely Chestnut Puck and added a little cute witch. That was all to balance out the trolls who were horrible. How did I even come up with that? Why did I even come up with that? After the trolls I added Magnifico, the pirates, Isma, Sonia, Mule, Azan, and others to help remedy this problem. Heck, all of Elfhelm doesnât have one piece of nightmare fuel, just loli witches and fairies, and I still was having issues!
Anyways, so then after the Empire of the Millennium Falcon Arc with the Kushans and Reborn Femto I decided to have Guts and his group stay on the boat. I know I took a long time on that, and Iâm sorry, but honestly I was hoping people would lose interest. Yes, the story was nowhere near over and the group were almost to Elfhelm, the place where Casca could possibly be healed, but I was running out of ideas. Now, we are actually in the dream world and Farnese and Schierke are trying to piece Casca back together, and I know it seems like a bad place to stop, but I just have to.
The fact is my health isnât what it use to be and Iâm getting old. Also the 2016 anime gave me cancer. Literal eye cancer. Iâm going blind and thatâs part of the reason why the art style changed, thatâs why Iâm taking so many hiatuses. Itâs also why I will never finish Berserk. I love this series, but I just donât have the passion or the ability to keep it going. But I will tell you how far I planned the ending.
First off, Casca does come back, just not in the way you thought. See Farnese does a soul transfer, like Donovan did to Guts except less prostitution (Kudos to fans who figured that out, most of the Donovan theories that Iâve seen are true; he was a much deeper character than he seemed), and becomes Casca, so now Farnese and Casca share Cascaâs body and Farnese is a potato brain. Guts doesnât notice right away, but Serpico does and he is super mad at Farnese. Farnese goes insane from Cascaâs memories and Casca wants to jump off another cliff while Farnese want stuff to burn. Farnese soul transfers back into her body (this time with prostitution) because Casca wonât let her burn stuff. She masters the fire wheel spell and burns Elfhelm to the ground. Everyone is mad at her, but she realizes she wants to become a great witch and uses earth magic to fix everything. Everyone is happy again and Casca decides to come back finally. Casca does jump off a cliff, and dies instantly.
Infact, everyone gets a power up, even Roderick. Isma gets more mermaid magic, Isidro gets a second 4000 degree knife, Serpico gets parachute pants, Farnese has more magic training and inner peace, Roderick get a fairy boat (a kind gesture, but it only fits like one person), Puck gets a better bag to sleep in, and Guts gets the only woman heâs ever loved back and then immediately loses her forever. Everything seems too good to be true.
And it is.
It turns out the Elf King was evil the entire time and was luring them into a false sense of security. Why? I donât know, but you people seem to like betrayal. All of the magic creatures attack and all of Griffithâs demons attack Elfhelm. The group escapes only to take the boat ride all the way back. This boat part is a little shorter than the last one, I planned on it only taking like 7 or 8 years instead of 10 like the last one. After being attacked by a different crew of funny pirates, and some Vikings as well, they land in Roderickâs kingdom of Ith, only to find out he too was evil the entire time and just wanted Farnese to be his rich witch wife. Farnese doesnât care now that sheâs found inner peace, but Serpico does and he accidently reveals that they are half siblings.
Nobody is really shocked. So Isma kills Roderick mostly on accident and it turns out Ith is also infected with horrible demons, so the group runs away until they meet up with Rickert, Erica, and the Kushan assassins. Rickert has become a super skilled Inventor and has built a medieval mech suit run off of magic and the will to live. It also has a giant sword. Erica has become a skilled assassin. The mech suit forms up like Power Rangers, each of the limbs representing a different element (Farnese-earth, Serpico-wind, Isma-water, and Isidro-fire) with Schierke forming the head. Guts has the Berserker armor and no reason to live beyond revenge. As terrible as the anime was, itâs more Shounen themes gave me the idea to use Mechs. I know it seems like it clashes with the dark fantasy theme of Berserk, but just think about it.
They launch an attack on Falconia and are captured immediately, but this was all a plan and they escape. They form into Voltron- I mean the mech that is totally unique in design and attack again. All of the demons attack causing havoc in the streets and lot of death and rape happen. The force breaks through to Griffith and there is a lot of âGRIFFFITHSU!!!!â Griffith still has Guts outclassed by a lot so Guts becomes overcome by his beast of darkness and calls Puck âbug.â
Everything stops. You guys thought the Behelit was for Casca? Guts? Farnese? No. It was for Puck from the very start. Yes Puck. Heâs the true villain of Berserk. You thought it was Griffith? The God Hand? The Idea of Evil? No. It was Puck.
Puck uses the Behelit  to summon the God Hand and Sacrifices Gutsâ bag to gain more power. Puck then kills Casca and Rickert before being killed by Corkus.Thatâs right, Corkus comes back from the dead and kills Puck and then Griffith, before finally killing Guts. Just as Puck was the main villain, Corkus was the main hero not Guts.
So Yeah, thatâs thatâs the ending. I took a lot of inspiration from online forums after the boat burnt me out of all of my ideas. It may seem a little dark, and I know I said I didnât think I could write a sad ending, but this really isnât a sad ending. It actually shows how even the worse people can be redeemed and even the most innocent can fall. Actually no, it doesnât. I know people will always point out my deep symbolism and philosophy in Berserk, honestly I didnât write it with that intention. Most of the time it was an accident, or people reading too much into it. The whole dream speech? That was just to show how full of himself Griffith was and Guts took it too seriously like everyone else. The dream thing came to me when I was watching Disneyâs Cinderella and thought, âdreams seem to be really popular I should include that to Berserk.â
Is that what you guys wanted? Some ridiculous, over the top, sad ending? From what Iâve heard, some fans are unhappy with how happy everything was going, but doesnât it feel better to know this horrifying story has a horrifying ending? Doesnât it fit all of the âthemesâ and âparallelsâ to that thing that happened once but has been redone five different times (*cough* Eclipse *cough*) where everyone died. Also what point is there to give a character development when you are going to kill them off for shock value anyways.Thatâs what I figured, just give the fans what they seem to want, a dumb edgy ending to bookend an immature and edgy beginning.
Iâve also been very busy with IdolM@aster. It is a very fun game, and a new anime recently came out for it so Iâve been watching that. Itâs one of the few things that makes me want to keep drawing and creating things, so Iâve been taking inspiration from it. Some of you have noticed the lean towards more cute character design and style in the most recent chapters and that is me trying to capture Idolm@sterâs unique and eye catching visuals. Itâs still not right and that frustration is another reason for my quitting Berserk. It simply is not my vision anymore (since Iâm still going blind) and Iâm going to try and write stories for them in the future. The dark themes are nice, but I needed more cute girls.
This is why I added characters like Sonia and Isma, and brought the Princess back. It is also why I made Griffith look even more like a girl. I guess even Guts started to look more feminine, which actually wasnât intentional, but more of a happy accident.
I havenât given up writing Manga for good though. I have a few ideas of writing a shoujo/slice of life/comedy/harem/sports manga, but I need to perfect my style and heal my eye cancer first. I really hope my fans forgive me and are willing to support me in my new passion: writing about cute underage girls being okay at something.
So thatâs it. Thatâs the end.
