10 Most Common Dog Skin Problems
Every pet parent who prioritizes their dog’s health must know common dog skin problems. Here you will find details about their signs, causes, and treatments.
Common Dog Skin Problems
Dog skin problems are one of the most common reasons to visit veterinarians. As we know skin is a large organ in dogs. Skin plays an important role in the regulation of various body functions. Healthy skin is essential for your pup’s well-being. Constant scratching, itching, or pawing can irritate both partners (dog and owners). Regular monitoring, clean fur, care routine, and anti-allergic foods can help save your dog from various skin conditions.
Some common skin problems in dogs are listed including their causes, symptoms, and treatments.
List of Dog Skin Diseases
1- Dog Skin Allergies
One of the most reasonable reasons to visit a vet is dog skin issues. Environmental factors like pollen or food can affect the dog’s skin and cause severe itching or scratching. When your dog is exposed to allergens, a chemical called histamine is released in the dog’s body, triggering itching.
Symptoms of Allergies in Dog:
Itching on affected skin
Biting or licking the skin
Bad odor in skin
Discharge from eyes
Redness
Hair Loss
Causes of Dog Allergies:
Pollen, dust, mold, or certain trees
Fleas are the major cause of allergies in dogs
Foods that contain allergic ingredients
Treatment
Use anti-allergic drugs like corticosteroids
Add fish oil and omega-3 fatty acid supplements to your dog’s diet
Make your pet’s bed and room clean
Use air purifiers that reduce pollen or dust particles
Use clean and hygienic grooming tools
2- Parasites
Dog parasites are common skin illnesses that can cause many health problems if not removed properly. Removal of parasites is important for your dog’s overall health; otherwise, these parasites can damage their hearts, lungs, and intestines. There are two types of parasites in dogs: external and internal parasites.
Internal Parasites are:
Hookworms infect their intestine
Tapeworms Affect the growth of developing pups
Roundworms cause gastrointestinal disorder
Heartworms are life-threatening parasites that affect the heart and lungs
Whipworms can damage the colon and intestine functioning
Giardia is the reason for vomiting and dehydration in dogs
External Parasites are:
Fleas
Ticks
Mites
Symptoms of Parasites in Dogs:
Fatigue
Weight Loss
Increase in appetite but not increase in weight
Rubbing the rear end with the floor to relieve itchiness
Shrinkage of the belly especially in pups
Blood in feces

Hello! I wanted to ask if you would do the Mercs w a gender neutral reader who finds a stray animal (like a dog or cat) that somehow wandered into their base and BEGGING the Mercs to keep it. Preferably all mercs, but if that's too many, then just Scout, Spy, and Engie please! Thank you! ♡
Convincing them to keep a stray animal [Headcanons]
Tumblr media
| Scout, Spy, Engie x GN!reader | 334 words | | masterlist | request-box |
Couldn't feel up to writing all 9 so these three as you wanted anon :) Tysm to my gf for her stamp of her approval ╔═════════════════╗
Scout:
The moment you show him the dog he wants it
No convincing needed, he's always wanted a dog
Now both of you have to convince Engineer and Medic to keep it.
Which was easy
This dog is going to be spoiled by you and scout
He goes on his morning runs with it
Instead of a collar it has a bandana wrapped around its neck
He tried to name it bonk and you immediately declined and threatened to lock him out of the base
Engineer:
When you found a small, skinny brown cat hidden behind a few crates you were in love.
Taking it to engineer quickly and begging to keep it, he looks uneasy (cat could have fleas, or ringworm and you're here touching it)
You and the cat convince him quickly, you with your puppy eyes and the cat with its.. uh cat qualities.
Medic gave it a small look over, it doesn't have fleas or ringworm.
He doesn't want it inside his workroom in case it gets too close to the machinery.
He'll sneak the cat some food when he's cooking meats.
Spy
"non"
You did not even SHOW him the cat and he was saying no.
You found a skinny black cat on the battlefield, took it and ran straight to spy to show him.
He doesn't want a feline shedding fur onto his suits, furniture or himself.
You keep the cat either way
The cat is very laid back, an older feline who just enjoys being in the sun.
He'll like the cat one day, but not early on.
The cat loves him though, always wants to be inside of his smoking room and wanting to lay in-front of the fireplace.
He'll buy it expensive cat food, if its going to stay in his smoking room it won't be eating cheap, disgusting smelling cat food

A Girl And Her Dog - A tribute/fuck you to "A Boy & His Dog," Viktor Blud is the telepathic despot of the Gravestone River, but that won't stop Rosalie and her dog Champion from going after him to take their revenge. Champ is more of a borzoi pangolin monstrosity than a dog but let's not get picky. The setting is a sort of post apocalyptic weird west on the planet where gods go to die. As seen in Lisa Frank Gulch.
Short Change Hero - Down on her luck two and a half foot ex-allotment farmer turned hopeful adventurer turned disillusioned bouncer / part time leg-breaker Obsidian Bonesplinter didn't want to rock the boat but when her old family shows up in the magical city Eliriad they get caught up in a bad way. Now she's got a dead body to explain and a murder to solve if she doesn't want the cops to pin it all on her and the only roommate she ever had with a steady job. A hardboiled noir mystery taking place in a fantasy world of magic and elves and fantastical creatures.
Saw Down Heaven - Follow up to Girl Bites God, a ragtag band of queers and superhumans try to drive police out of their local community and set up a patrol free zone outside of the reach of law enforcement and, worse, the FCC. With the help of the mutant ringworm colony and hole in reality which together animate the undead corpse of Alice Buzzsaw (aka the Suicide Gorgon) and escaped mental patient AthenA Six, maybe they can pull it off. Takes place in the disentangled world, a setting where our world is slowly being folded into a parallel reality where physical matter never existed.

sometimes i just want to take an advertising exec gently by the face and ask them "when you made me watch a badly animated ringworm make the o-face while a dog leapt out of its butthole, what emotion were you hoping to inspire in me, and how did you think that would contribute to me wanting to purchase your product?" and see if they even know anymore

PRIME BEAST TANJA...... She died a few years ago at the age of ~16. She had ringworm in her leg as a kitten and was sort of forced upon my parents when they were buying her sister, Zuki, because she was secretly ill. She had a full recovery, but still avoided putting weight on that leg, and also instead of meowing she mainly squeaked <3
Growing up, we had a changing number of cats. My mother only wanted like 2 max, but we at one point had 5: Scout, Tanja, Zuki, Poko Ono, and Neighbour Cat (not pictured)
Tumblr media
I have no pets, but in the USA my parents have my boy Cooper, a golden retriever (fav dogs <3). He is very good. I desperately want to own a cat again, but can't due to apartment/finance/flatmate doesn't like em.

literally just a long infodump about my kennel job
uh feel free to ask questions ig i literally love talking about it
baloney is our longest stay dog right now, hes a pittie and hes such a freakin sweetheart. he had ringworm but im pretty sure hes all better now which is great bc hes such a social dog. we also have clover who is missing a front leg but it really does not slow her down even a little bit. shes the type that really needs to be put to work; she really needs the stimulation so i hope we can find the right person for her bc shes not really a family dog. we recently got a case dog (dog involved in a court case or other social work-esque stuff) so i cant be too specific about them but they are the tiniest freakin thing in the worldddd. one gram of protein ass animal. absolute hamster of a dog. love that thang. we also have some puppies that are a begal/great pyranese mix??? which is an insane combo. one of the puppies is just. way bigger than the other two as well even though hes not any older which is pretty funny. we also have mcqueen who was a puppy when we got her (any dogs under 6 months have different protocol bc they dont have all their vaccines yet) but is now over 6 months which means she can be out and about! i felt bad at first bc she was a little bigger than her littermates and would take their food so we had to seperate them and when they got adopted first i was like "thats what you get mcqueen for bein rude thats karma" but now im like. okay karma over. someone come get ya baby. we also have cats obviously but i dont know the cats as well because i get assigned to them less often. we did have a kitten named anouk who was such a freakin joy. he was in pink (pink is our quarantine room, gotta wear full ppe while ur in there) for a very long time bc he had some kind of fungal infection i think. but the couple of times i cleaned his cage he was so playful i loved it. im super glad he got adopted!!! anyway back to dogs we also have bunna whos a grey pittie with just the cutest freakin face ever and i always underestimate how freakin strong she is. that dog is solid muscle. shes been less high energy lately but im pretty sure its just kennel stress because shes been here kind of a while. we also have tappy and tippy who came here together obviously but they were both so nervous we had to seperate them because they were making each other worse. theyre doing a ~little~ better now; tappy wouldnt eat before but now shell at least have a few bites and she did take enrichment today which is progress! staff put them both in A Kennel (which is like the main kennel, usually dogs there are ones theyre pushing to adopt) which honestly i think its stressing her out more because it gets so freakin loud in there but whatever im not the one in charge i guess. i literally had a woman today be like "whats her story" (aka whys she like that) and i had to be like. maam i have no idea we dont often like. get the dogs history unfortunately. it could be any number of things. a lot of dogs do much better out of kennel tho so i wouldnt fully judge any dog by their behaviors here. anyway i could go on literally forever <3

Please help! Dog in need!
I've never made a post asking for any kind of money, but this is urgent. On Friday, my best friend (I'll call them D) was driving back home from a long day working in near-100° heat when they noticed an emaciated dog walking in the middle of the road. When they pulled over the dog immediately came up to her and tried to get in her car (which she couldn’t do without help). She seems to be no younger than two years old but has already clearly been pregnant. It’s not uncommon to run across stray dogs in central/southern Virginia; we suspect she used to be a hunter’s dog, which are often purposefully starved. She has tons of fleas and tick bites, sores, is missing parts of two of her toes, and is now showing signs of ringworm. She showed signs of fear when my friend tried to put a leash on her but is amazingly super sweet and affectionate, always asking for pets and attention. D and her boyfriend have named her Melon.
Tumblr media
[ID: Melon, a young dog with a light brown and black coat, looks towards the camera. She is emaciated, her tail between her legs. A large red collar attaches her to a leash. End ID]
My friend has been dog-sitting and asked that person if they could keep this dog in her basement until future notice. She would take her home if it weren’t for her cat. It’s highly unlikely this dog has been vaccinated. Since it’s the weekend she’s been unable to get in contact with any vets or shelters and animal control has been entirely unhelpful. They’ve given Melon a bath and given her food and water. Melon has had a bout of diarrhea, is discharging a bit from her eyes and has been bleeding from her vagina, but has otherwise been super cuddly and sweet.
Tumblr media
[ID: Melon rests on the floor with her head on my friend's lap. They are scratching her chest. Melon is wearing a new collar. End ID]
D has created a GoFundMe to cover costs of more food, a new collar and name tag, and other care items. She still needs money to cover a future vet visit and what’s looking like a long road of recovery. Any money left over will be donated to local animal welfare charities. If you can, please donate or share this post. Anything helps. Melon deserves better!

So here’s this week’s turd sandwich:
Our current vet is stonewalling us on oral ringworm meds for all the pets, even though treating the whole household is the only way to keep our seven animals from passing it around like jugglers at the circus. So next week I’m taking Monday off and we’re driving four hours one way to see our old vet, who will help us.
I have a new ringworm spot on my arm.
Baby dog has started going randomly ballistic at her big sister, leading to her accidentally biting us while going after her. It happened last night and my partner got a bit of a mark, and it happened again tonight and we each got a tooth puncture, theirs worse than mine. If this keeps up, we’re going to have to rehome baby dog, which would just break my goddamn heart—but we can’t just let her hurt her sister, or any of the cats.
This really sucks so much fucking ass, I’m not even fully processing it yet. Jesus christ.

A dog? You got bit by a random feral dog?! Can-
[Lobby stops typing for a second, putting a claw to their mouth- can code even get rabies..? Or ringworm?]
So we're... we're looking for a fuckin' dog... great- just gonna leave a png of kibble out and go "here Fido! Mere Fido!" Or something.
- 🦞
"Heh...Hey, maybe I'll do that. It's okay Lobby. Look. You'll know, Mark will know...Nio knows. I just...Don't want Jade to have to deal with me when she's already so tired."
[Sam shrugs]
"There's no marks, im not in pain...I think we're fine. And look, there's the trapdoor! I'm home safe."

i have so many kittens rn its silly so i made a gallery of some (some!) of my cats' ages XD
Frito is a bottlefed kitten I just picked up today, alongside their three siblings, Cheeto, Dorito, and Lay. They're 3 weeks old
Maya is a stray kitten my mom found outside three days ago, and she's a bit older than a month old, around 5-6 weeks old
Checkers is my long-term foster kitten, whom I've had since she was 2 months old, and she's now 8 months old about. I also fostered her sister, California, for a month. Checkers had a bad reaction to fluids (or the needle was contaminated) that caused her skin to split open, and she's got a few months left of healing to go!
Mac n Cheese is my wobbly syndrome cat, whom I've had since she was 6 weeks old and I swore was still under a year but she's actually a month over at 1 year, 1 month! :O time flies!!! my baby's so fat now!
Gizmo, not pictured, is another cat I have, who's about 2 years and a half now. Very smart and knows sit, high five, and spin! :) My mom also found him as a stray, same age as Maya, and he gave all my cats (and me) ringworm lmao
Princington and Battle Axel were two cats I also had who are now deceased and they were the same age, only about a week apart, and would both be 3 and a half years by now (Prince died at 1 year, Axel at ~2)
Tweetie aka Sweetie aka Angel is a cat I've had since childhood, so I can't remember her exact age. She was born on my grandma's farm, and we took her and Tommy aka Mustard (now deceased) when they were weaned off their mom, so about the 5-6 week mark
Sheldon is another cat I have, big fatto, and my mom fostered him since he was a bottle baby and kept him because he had anger issues and she feared no one would take him and he'd get euth'ed. He's about 9-11 years, I'm not sure of when he came into the picture even though I remember him as a kitten
Shadow is our old boy, somewhere in the 14-16 year old range. His ears are all fucked cause he got something like a hematoma in them and blood burst. He's a good boy but hell at the vet, so since the ears aren't lethal/painful, we didn't do much past give him meds for infection and clean his ears. He has a sister named Macaroni who is very chill and does not look as old as Shadow does lol
Also had a cat named Princess and another named Misty before them, but only faded memories :)
I had hamsters (Digger, Gumball) and guinea pigs (Marvin, Sweetflower) previously as well, had a rabbit (Cookie Dough aka NumNum) briefly, and currently have one some-months old hamster named Buster who loves biting people, and two gerbils, Gemini aged 1 year and Mama Virgo a few months older. Gemini had a sister named Libra that previously mentioned California ate. My mom also has ducks, chickens, and guineas
and not to mention our dogs! Shaggy is like a 4 months old sheep-a-doodle, then Adrian the mini pom is like 10 years old, Rocky the Shih Tzu is 12-14 years old, and Sonny the mutt is pushing 19 years old! We previously had a pom named Destiny who died at like 15 and PP aka Penelope the German Shephard mix who died young at 10 years old because of arthritis/other conditions
its going to be so strange going from so many animals to 2-3 cats, 3 critters when i move for college lol

Fun Fact about me
I got a kitten a couple weeks ago from my grandma because his mom died (she has a lot of feral cats around her property, its a whole mess, I would not recommend) and he's currently in a large dog kennel because he has ringworm
whenever he wants food or attention, he will repeatedly climb the bars of the kennel and fall down instead of meowing

Oh btw, I’ll probably not be making replies anymore on Tuesdays and Thursdays because now instead of being at the day center where I work, those days I’ll be going out with clients instead (like taking them to Sam’s Club or Dollar Tree, things like that), so I won’t be at a computer all day, alas.  ALSO 1) Parents came back. Dad has photos on phone. He took pictures for me of the dogs he met and a cool bull sculpture he thought I’d like 2) Dad and I think Maia’s ringworm is looking better, if not gone. Instead of getting a punch biopsy done, I’m gonna ask for a refill on the meds she’s on. 3) Niece has come with them and will be spending the week with us. May or may not impact activity (she’s 8)
