Have I mentioned that I realized that art takes a back burner to the dogs because the dogs are alive and need care, while my art technically does not?

I realized this a week or two ago and it really made me reconsider a new dog. I want to build up my art business, but I can't do that when I "need" to take the dog to classes or spend time training it or go to the vet or whatever. I have my hands full already with Mud (and now Anza. Who is less demanding overall, but she still needs care and she actually needs training. :/) The needs of a living being are more urgent than artwork.

Part of this is that I don't have clients with deadlines. Work with deadlines gets tough because I NEED to work, but my dogs be like "no, you need to care for me." ATM, I don't get enough work to need to crank through it to get portraits out in a reasonable amount of time, so I can put it off.

Now I have a part time job (possibly a second starting next month???) and I'm responsible to them now. They take priority over my own job and the dogs, to a degree. I only need to work 4 hours a week and it's a flex schedule, but still.

So priorities are like this now:

PT job Dogs Art

I really would like Art to become a more consistent source of income so I don't need the PT job. Adding more dogs probably doesn't help with that. Though the flip side to that is that I could get more pet portrait clients by attending more dog shows as a competitor because some clubs will let me put out cards to advertise. So a new dog could mean more jobs. It's tough.
