Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Powell revealed that he adopted Brisket from the Labelle Foundation while he was filming the standalone sequel to the 1996 classic Twister.

"I was going through a breakup at the time and was in the middle of Enid, Oklahoma, and I had always wanted a dog," Powell told EW. "It was something I thought about a lot, but it was somewhere in this coffee shop in Enid.... I don't even know how to describe it, I just had the desire to be a father."

He eventually came across Brisket's picture on a dog rescue site and did everything he could to adopt him. "I sent them a heartbreakingly depressing video of me [explaining] why I needed this dog," Powell recalled.

Powell officially introduced Brisket to the world in July 2023 and has been sharing loving snaps of him ever since (including posting thirst traps with him on social media).
