2021 was a very weird writing year for me. It felt like I posted a LOT (well, a lot for me anyway) but also like I didn’t get anything done?? Idk man, time is a flat circle. I’m both happy with all the fics I posted this year, and also weirdly detached from them bc the writing process often felt like I blacked out and suddenly there were words on the page I barely remembered putting there, lol.

ANYHOW, in 2021 I wrote a total of 45,254 words across 8 completed works and 1 WIP (which will prob ultimately count toward my 2022 works since it’ll be completed in January). Here’s my top 5:

5. More Alike Than Not - JayRoy | Rated T | 1.7k | Young Justice/Earth 16

A Double Red Week fic! Like every event I’ve participated in, my plans were more ambitious than I was able to accomplish, but I had such a good time playing around with YJ!JayRoy all that week. I have so many plans for longer/more in depth fics involving them, but this one shot is a nice summation of why I think Arsenal x Jason works so well conceptually in this universe, and what would draw them to one another. Though not a particularly in-depth character study, it does examine the odd dynamic & parallels between Roy & Will and how Roy feels about it.

4. Left on Read - JayRoy | Rated T | 2.3k | Young Justice/Earth 16

Basically, Roy is bad at texting back and Jason is like a grumpy cat in human form about it, lol. Tbh I keep flipping back and forth between whether I like this fic or Proximity more. Both were also for Double Red Week, but Left on Read is a bit fluffier and more humorous, whereas Proximity is more of a pining/yearning, hurt/comfort sorta deal. I think I just enjoy reading back Left on Read a bit more because 1) Jay gets to be sassier and more ridiculous, which I adore, and 2) While I’m happy with Proximity, I think I could have elevated it to another level had I taken more time with it and put it through a few more rounds of edits. But, you know what they say. Perfection is the enemy of good and all that.

3. Entwined - ThanZag | Rated E | 7.2k | Hades (video game)

Y’all, when I tell you Hades had me by the THROAT this past year?!?! Whew. I may never recover. Play this game, romance Death, and then go read this fic if you want an expansion on that whole fade-to-black situation between Than and Zag. I still can’t believe they’re not only canon but also poly with Meg. I love them so much it makes me look STUPID. Anyway, while 90% of the smut I write is just two Extremely In Love idiots being sappy af, this is like, EVEN MORE than usual. So, you’re welcome I guess, lol.

2. Marked For Death - ThanZag | Rated T | 12.7k | Hades (video game)

Oh, this was SO much fun. I love this fic, I’m actually so proud of it. Basically, there is a game mechanic I discovered that sent my mind spinning bc of the in-universe implications, and then this happened. The game’s narration is done in a fun, purple-prose-adjacent style, so I went ham trying to match it, which was such a blast. Also, I’d say action is one of my big weak spots as a writer, so this was a perfect excuse to work on that. It was super rewarding to complete, and felt like such a success when I got a number of people giving unprompted positive feedback in the comments specifically about the action aspect of the fic.

1. Love Me Tender - Bluepulse | Rated E | 8k | Young Justice/Earth 16

Okay, so this was never supposed to be it’s own fic. But, I needed to post it in order to stop myself from endlessly editing it for the rest of my existence (which did in fact work!), so that I could move on to the unfinished parts of (still in progress) Remember Me, Chapter 5. Like I said, 90% of the smut I write is just two Extremely In Love idiots being sappy af. That applies here for sure. All Bart’s POV. As silly and flirty and ridiculous as it is smutty. Possibly the best E rated fic I’ve written to date (at least I should hope so, considering early, and now unrecognizable, drafts of this scene date back 2-3 years). Def the one I was most afraid to share, and prob the one I’ve ultimately become the most proud of.

The Masked Singer Season 5 Episode 5 Recap: Group B Finals ft a plot twist (Commentary & Guesses)

Hi everyone! Welcome (or welcome back) to Ana’s Masked Singer recap, where I, Ana, recap every episode of The Masked Singer. So, this week, we are back to Group B with yet another wildcard and it is the last time we are gonna see the groups on their own since after Group A’s final, we got the Super Eight (yup, it’s 8 this time... much better still than last season’s format). Anyways, let’s get into it (this is gonna be super repetitive from last week guess wise but I am gonna try to keep it interesting and fresh for you guys, don’t you worry):

Alright, so usually I would save the wildcard for the end as like a surprise, but since the wildcard got eliminated, let’s introduce (and say goodbye to at the same time) to the:

Bulldog!! 🐶

Commentary: Ok, he sang Candy Girl by New Edition (which is really funny and ironic for a whole other thing, I’ll explain in a moment I swear) and um how do I say this nicely?... he’s a great dancer, but the singing is, what Randy Jackson would say, “a no from me dawg.” (Get it? Dawg.. bc the bullDOG... oh ok I will stop now). Anyways, yeah no, he was not good, I kind of expected this to happen honestly, so I am not surprised nor disappointed by any means. However, the person under this mask kinda did surprise me lol... even tho I kind of saw this coming.

He was revealed to be, in the biggest plot twist of the century, no voting, just Neicy Nash picking it:

I did officially guess him before he was unmasked (but that’s because I had no other guesses sooo can I really count this a win? Hmmm... TBD... you guys let me know). Anyways, BOOM PLOT TWIST BABY, he’s back! Just in case you guys didn’t know (I don’t really talk about the judges or the host here because I watch for the contestants not for them and it would make this already long blog longer and we don’t want that): Nick had COVID so he couldn’t host the first few episodes of the show, but now he’s better and BOOM he’s the host again... Neicy Nash was taking over for him and now he’s back! So yeah this was just a transition for him to be back on the show, but like imma be honest: he might have been married to Mariah Carey but he don’t got any pipes like her, but he’s a good host so he should stick to that.

Anyways, NEXTTTT, let’s talk about the remaining 4 (which are legit the same freaking ones from last week):

1. Black Swan 🖤🦢

Commentary: So she sang Whitney Houston's How Will I Know and I swear she gets better and better each week like she murdered this song, it was absolutely amazing, my favorite performance of the night hands down. I really love Black Swan, she has one of the best voices on the show and I think either her or Robopine could win the entire season tbh.

10-10-10= She has appeared on multiple singing competition shows (she did a lot of those shows as a kid), she was on America’s Most Talented Kids and was a guest judge on celebrity X Factor

Montana= get this... if you are around my age, this will surprise you. Did you guys know that Jojo was the original person that the producers of Hannah Montana wanted to play Hannah but she turned it down because she wanted to focus on her music

2. Crab 🦀

Commentary: He sang Give it to Me Baby by Rick James and it was a very strong performance, it almost took me aback the song choice. I didn’t expect him to go that hard in the beginning, the hip thrusts were a bit uncomfortable for me and he can’t dance for shit (I am sure it’s because he’s a bit older, not faulting him by any means), but it was really strong vocally speaking. He did actually loose his breathe and started hyperventilating under the mask and had to take a break to cool down (literally, because he was burning up under there), which honestly I hope he’s ok, I am not sure if he’s gonna last that long because of that hyperventilating (remember Mickey Rourke?), but tbh it would have been so unfair for him to go because he did an amazing job and I enjoyed his performance. He got soul.... crab’s got soul.

tldr i mean people can take part in shipping/rpf if they want to and if they keep it lowkey but there’s a boundary as to how far shipping/rpf can go and there are too many instances of where people insert rpf/shipping in places that are unacceptable and this goes for all real ppl pairings 

i’m not meaning to offend anyone, and in no way are my opinions discriminatory, but also, if you’re someone who’s gonna make HUGE stretches regarding to celebrities and push your favorite ships in totally unrelated things, maybe you should step back and think about how your actions can affect your favorite people

ok so let me start by saying i’m a seventeen stan and when i was 15-16 y/o i shipped svt members, read rpf, etc, but never really was into overanalyzing every touch or gaze. i obviously enjoyed my favorite pairings interact and i read romantic fics about them. i wasn’t really into reading smut because for me, personally, fics using the members’ names and personalities even in au kinda made smut feel like visualizing the members in a sexual context and i felt like i was crossing a fan boundary, like, would my idol be comfortable with me seeing them in a sexual context with another member they tell us they consider as friends/brothers/sisters? or just in general, would they be comfortable with me thinking of them sexually? but hey, if it was a good fic i would just skip over the smut because good fics are good fics. now idk if it’s because i’m older, or other changes? i don’t really do romantic shipping or read rpf, i stick to reading fics about fictional characters because that’s what makes me comfortable (like if i ever rb two members’ interactions on my main, i stick to just tagging the members instead of their ship name, same goes on here for real people) and i still very much am uncomfortable w/ real people smut literature and art, but that’s just me

ok you see shipping a lot in idol culture because idols are in groups and members spend a good 90% of their time together, so whatever cute interactions you see  kinda lead to people shipping two (or more ig) members. i never really thought about idol shipping culture from a marketing perspective, so i asked some of my friends, and one of them made a really good point about how some ships are more popular than others, and these interactions on shows and stuff might be a strategic/marketing tactic to lure in new fans because of the “ships” being cute. i don’t know how true this actually is, but it kinda made sense. for example, in svt, mingyu x wonwoo is a super popular ship, compared to ships like the8 x vernon which no one ever talks about, even though we know that all the members love each other equally and wholeheartedly. so yeah, there probably is a subtle pushing of certain ships in order to gain momentum in attracting more fans to the group

also i’m gonna be using wonwoo and mingyu as examples but i’m not targetting anyone or anything, just hypothetical situations w/ an idol ship that i noticed to affect the members because how out-of-control SOME stans are

so as i said in my tldr, i don’t really mind romantic shipping, as long as it’s 1) lowkey 2) not pushed in places that it doesn’t belong and 3) not mentioned among the members

keeping it lowkey- pushing ships in everyone’s faces gets annoying. sometimes fans just want to enjoy idols’ content as they give it to us and frankly, it’s a little offputting when you’re trying to watch something or enjoy something and hoards of fans are fangirling over a gaze or a touch between 2 members. keep it on your private acct, or in a group chat, not in the youtube comment section of the video. but still, men and women are allowed to touch each other and show affection without it being romantic, and i feel like shipping culture kinda invalidates the platonic relationship. like unless a pairing is confirmed to be dating, why even bother with overanalyzing these gazes or touches. and no, it’s not homophobic for non-rpf fans to be annoyed, because sometimes fans just want to see the members as they portray themselves to be rather than finding a deeper (and unconfirmed) meaning behind every small thing. fans being like “bro it’s just the touch of two hands it’s not that deep” is not the same thing as fans going “ewww i’m’ not supporting them if they’re not straight” . and sometimes i feel like people try to twist non-rpfers words and call them homophobic if they’re not for shipping when sometimes people don’t wanna romantically visualize 2 people if they’re an unconfirmed couple. how can you use lgbt struggles, which is an issue in society, to fight against people who simply don’t do rpf?? how are you use that as a weapon and for what ??? (also a good amount of people who do this are lgbt fetishizers who aren’t lgbt themselves bye i said it) why can’t we all jus be friends dudes

not mentioned among the members in an uncomfy manner- like if you’re interacting with a real person, why are you gonna bring up a ship they’re included in when you have so many other things to talk about?? like ok it’s one thing to ask someone on a livestream “hey this event you guys did on xxxx show was funny, what’s the tea behind that” but it’s not okay to just mention a ship with no relation and no context to the situation. again, this counts as rpf-ers and shippers attributing a single ship to an idol’s identity much more than what it actually counts as. no, wonwoo is not 70% made of mingyu lover and vice versa. we actually saw this between mingyu and wonwoo as people kept pushing meanie (the ship) to their faces, and we saw (and  still see) a much more decreased amount of interaction between them compared to them predebut, because shippers couldn’t stay in their lane. so yes, out-of-control shipping DOES affect idols and can be harmful to their relationships if you don’t control it

to be completely honest, shipping for idol groups makes some sense to me because idol group members are with each other most of the time, that’s literally their job

i think where this becomes a problem is when people start projecting wangxian’s relationship onto yibo and xiao zhan because...the latter are real people. yibo and xiao zhan =/= wangxian !!!!!! both wyb and xz have had years of industry experience before getting to know each other. they’ve gone through some of the lowest points of their careers before even getting to know each other well, and they’ve both found Their People in the industry before finding each other. to say that wyb brought xz out of his shell in a summer’s worth of filming based on some bts videos is just so unfair to the bonds xz has made with his other colleagues and xnine  members and the accomplishments he’s had before cql. same with wyb and his career prior to cql. and his uniq members, his ttxs bros, and all his other colleagues. these 2 have gone through some shit with their idol groups and it’s just not fair for cpfs to erase the significance of their career prior to cql to support and find a leverage for their shipping. i’m not saying all cpfs do this, but there is  a Good Amount That Do and it pisses fans like me off

Make Yourselves Forget That The Plague Is A Bitch: Book Edition

What’s the most recent book that you’ve read and absolutely fell in love with?

Does fanfic count? No? Because I do tend to read, like a ton of fanfic instead of actual books nowadays. But if we are talking actual published stuff, I’m gonna have to go back to Christmas time probably. And give a little background story, because what would my life be if I didn’t make posts extra long.

So, for most of my life, my parents and I have spent the holidays in the mountains at the cabin. Yes, it is a cabin in the woods, no it isn’t creepy. And that cabin, while great for many reasons, has one great shortcoming: no internet. When I was younger, I extra hated this, though it did give me a lot of time to read. So so so much time to read. And though we spend all of the winter there for skiing (both teaching and enjoying), I read the most over the 4 or 5 days over Christmas that we stay. 

One year in high school, my dad, after deciding that I seemed to enjoy sci fi content as much as him (maybe after watching Firefly or Red Dwarf, or maybe it was just my whole deal), started sharing the Honor Harrington series of books with me. And every Christmas, I read the new one and maybe my favorites of the previous. This past year, he added 2 new authors on top of the 2 I was already reading with Tanya Huff and Eliabeth Moon (and maybe Glynn Stewart? 2020 has been long y’all).

But let’s get back to fall in love with. I’m going to go with Valor’s Choice by Tanya Huff, because of the world building, and also yet another female protag in scifi lit, with the advantage of being written by a woman. It also is more on the military side of things, which I like more than I ever expected to (though I slogged through David Weber, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised!).

Anyways, if you want a bamf hero in a cool scifi setting, I would totally recommend it!

Do you keep track of how many books you’re reading every month?

No, and I never really have, even when I was little, and I had to for school, I wasn’t about the numbers game of it. Also, because I read so much stuff online, that makes it hard to count things.

What’s your stance on the debate as to whether or not we should dissociate the artist from their art (artist = writer in this case)?

I STRUGGLE with this question, because both sides make sense to me, but there are definitely pieces of media that I used to love that I can’t handle quite as much any more. The one that comes to mind is the Harry Potter series. JK Rowling has done some batshit crazy stuff in the post release of her work that has turned me off of it some, even though it was incredibly important to me when I was little, and I still care about it a lot.

And there are some cases where artists have been part of media I like, but I can’t justify supporting them (y’all the first pirates of the carribean goes hard, but also Johnny Deep). And there are chunks of media where I haven’t been able to figure out where I stand. 

This is a really hard question. The only answer I can stand behind is that cancel culture sucks, and people change, so I’m willing to give people a second chance. 

What do you do when you can’t focus on a book?

Change media types and then never return. I have in the last 5 years given myself permission to dip on things that don’t keep me engaged. I will occasionally come back to something, but if I don’t come back within about 48 hours, I will honestly forget I ever read the thing, so that happens.

Do you pay attention to the gender/ethnicity/race/sexuality of the authors you’re reading, aka do you actively try to read books written by diverse writers?

No, but I also don’t let author determine things for me with written media. Representation in characters, or in actual product itself is more important to me. Though, I will gladly read something from a new point of view, and support diverse viewpoints.

It’s just not really a thing that I consider that much. Which may be a problem, but I’m not a perfect person, and I’m not a perfect supporter of diverse populations. I can strive to be better in the future.

Paperback or hardcover?

Paperback if I’m reading it for the first time, but hardcover if I’m going to try and keep it at home in collection (though I also have a ton of paperbacks from when I was young, and I haven’t bought a non-textbook in at least 4 years.

Which language would you like to learn just to be able to read its untranslated literature?

So many languages!! Mandarin would be cool, as would basically any asian language, since they are culturally so different than me and I would love to get to read that stuff, and get to see that media in a new form.

I sit right in front of my bookshelf, so like 10 books are the closest ones for me. So I’ll take the one I most recently read, with Squire by Tamora Pierce, the 3rd of 4 in the Protector of the Small series. Here’s my pitch:

If you have ever read fantasy and thought to yourself that this would be much better if the lead was a girl who is coming into her own while still going against some of the hangups of a society that is adjusting to women as warriors. The universe is lush and deep, and connects to multiple series. The characters have faults but are for the most part black and white in their allegiances. Sometimes, it is nice to read something a bit more simple, and a little bit more gentle. Also, the whole multiple cultures plot is super fun too!

Basically, read any Tamora Pierce set in Tortall; there are like 5 different series and they are all great!

-dream jobs: oh man uhh. i used to think i wanted to be like a genetics/evolutionary biology professor and do research on evolution or cancer or hiv/aids and teach at like ucsf or something. or like work for nasa as an astrobiologist, or maybe work as a vet for a zoo. but now i don’t think i wanna do that anymore? to be quite honest if i could be 100% guaranteed whatever job i wanted i think i’d want to be a showrunner for an animated show on cartoon network or adult swim, like not something just with storyboards or animation, but like actually involved in the writing of the show. i’d love to write for a tv show on cartoon network or something like the office or brooklyn 99 or even a story-based video game, or maybe like do something where i get to just joke around and be funny all the time like what the mcelroys or game grumps do but. i have No Idea how to go about doing that and honestly i think jobs like that just happen to people randomly so it’s not really like, a Secure Job Option To Pursue. but i really hope somehow i end up doing something like that. i just wanna do something where i can create something meaningful that i’m proud of and see people connecting with it and feeling happy and inspired and less alone because of it, and maybe liking it so much a fandom or something grows around it. i’d be so fucking happy if that happened.

The Secrets The Dead Keep

Current status: 4th draft (not counting at least three failed attempts at draft 1 and at least one failed attempt at draft 2)

Word count: about 120,000 words

Blurb: When Saffie realises her mother’s spirit isn’t at peace, she returns to the city of her birth, the city of her long-lost relatives, to learn to contact ghosts and find her mother’s anonymous killers to exact her revenge. But whatever these people had against Saffie’s mother, they now have against Saffie and the rest of her newly-reunited family - and they have a headstart. Can Saffie uncover her mother’s secrets before they catch up with her?

Notes: I’ve been writing this novel for about 5 years now, but much of that was terrible early attempts. It was two years before I managed a full draft, and then another two years before I rewrote a second full draft. Thankfully I’m finally finished with rewriting it; I’m not planning on any huge plot changes, so editing will suffice. I’m currently waiting on feedback on my third draft so I can properly get editing on draft four. Also, I’m not entirely sure the blurb I just wrote sums it up right, but I did write one for my blog which goes into a bit more detail - though then again I don’t think any blurb I write for it sums it up right, so I’m never happy lol

Sequel to The Secrets The Dead Keep

Current status: 1st draft (second attempt)

Word count: about 8,000 words, I think

A few potential titles: The Secrets The Seas Hide; The Creatures The World Forgot; The Creatures Time Hid; The Souls The Outsiders Steal...

Blurb: After escaping her father (again) who has her under a curse - the same man who has been targeting Saffie’s family - Anthie flees with Saffie and her friends to a remote island, only to find that Anthie’s father has followed them there - and not only to take advantage of Anthie’s curse. He plans to use them all for his own benefit - and that means killing them.

Notes: this is the first time I’ve tried to write a blurb for this version of this story!! Difficult enough anyway, but to do it without giving any spoilers... Also I tried to write a sequel a few years ago, when I’d only written the first draft of Book One, and it was boring and vague and I hadn’t planned it and I didn’t get very far. But there’s a plot twist that I added to draft 2 of Book One which has completely changed the direction of Book Two, and I’m much happier with where it’s headed. Also I planned it properly this time, so I’m much more optimistic!

Project Fort

Current status: planning

Blurb: Three weeks ago, all the most important nobles in the country arrived in the capital city for a royal wedding. That is the last thing everyone in the city remembers, and now the royal family - and, mysteriously, Lady Carrison’s brother - have vanished. As the nobles begin a power struggle, Carrison realises she must discover what has become of the missing people - and what has happened to everyone’s memories, and why no-one is able to leave the city. And what does her brother have to do with the royal family?

Notes: “Project Fort” isn’t actually the title; it’s more of a project/code name, which I chose because all the nobles each lead their own fort which I’m classing as kind of like a city within castle walls. Eg, Lady Carrison is from Fort Hardring, and the capital is Fort I’m-going-to-have-to-change-the-name-because-apparently-it’s-a-real-place-and-also-I-can’t-remember-than-name-right-now. I don’t actually know where this story will go, but I love the concept and I did start some character building and backstory and world building for it, so I definitely don’t want to give up on it yet.

Escapism

Current status: ????? somewhere between 3rd draft and finished?????? or maybe it is finished idk I haven’t decided yet

Word count: Less than 1,000 words, I think. Or maybe approximately 1,000 words. I can’t remember.

Notes: this one’s too short for a blurb, but it’s about depression and self-destructive urges. I first wrote it on a really bad mental health day and it’s basically my thoughts on that day but in story form. It’s the truest thing I’ve ever written. I’m actually really happy with it, but the idea of anyone reading it is terrifying, and also I want to establish myself as a fantasy writer and this is not a fantasy story, so I’m not sure whether I’ll actually do anything with it or not.

Miscellaneous Projects

Most of my other writing projects are either short story or novel ideas which haven’t even gotten as far as Project Fort, in that they’re just the vaguest ideas without even characters or anything yet. Also there’s too many of them to list and they’re all too vague to describe in any more detail than “something to do with this thing”.

I’m also knitting a patchwork blanket. Mostly because knitting is soothing and patchwork squares are easy to knit, but also because I’m a heat monster so an extra blanket can in no way be a bad thing.

Which Fandoms do you write for?

A hefty amount. I have published works for Boosh, Good Omens, Achievement Hunter (YouTube) RPF. But I have WIPs for BBC Sherlock, Detroit: Become Human, Nathan Barley, Noelian RPF, Sweet, BBC Merlin, Harry Potter and more recently the IT Crowd (why am I like this)

Which Characters do you write?

Mainly Vince and Howard in the Boosh, though I try to wedge Naboo in there whenever physically possible because I love him. Who doesn't? I also ADORE writing Dan Ashcroft, and lately I've been just playing around with little character prompts to get his voice down and I think I might be in character love for real ngl.

In terms of other fandoms; I love writing Crowley, I find I've got Sherlock's inner voice down to a Science, and I'll never ever pass up an opportunity to write something Merlin the loveable idiot he is!

Is there any character you currently don't write for but want to?

Same, I want to write more Julian. I have one very quick Noelian drabble that fell out of my head but it's very Noel centric just cause I feel like his voice is something I can pick up easier (why that is idk) but I really really want to expand it and perhaps try to get some Julian work in there.

Who is your favourite character to write?

Howard. All day long. Though I don't think I capture him quite as well as I can, but in working on it!

Are you working on a fic currently?

I am! (I'll only stick to Boosh + boosh adjacent works because otherwise we will be here all day). Im working on a magical fairytale type adventure based on this beautiful piece of art by @captainfoxgloves! Im also working on a Boosh/Barley Crossover (think Prince and the Pauper type shenanigans). Ofc I'm working on the Show Me What I Can't See sequel. And finally I'm working on a kid fic for Howard and Vince's first meeting with a bit of a twist (ooh all the mystery and suspense 👀)

How long are your fics usually?

Oh boy that's uh. Debatable. Normally I aim to have around a 10k-20k word count but I very rarely sit at that number tbh. I either end up in the shorter fic side of things (with anything from 1-5k) or I just keep adding and adding until I end up with 60+k of stuff I'm not even sure anyone's going to bother to read. I guess it's cause I love long fic? So I always end up emulating that subconsciously. (glances nervously at my fic exchange fic that ended up so long)

What do you write most of? Fluff? Smut? Angst? Dark?

Hi I'm a dealer of angst what can I get for you today? Honest to God I set out to not write angts and it happens anyway. Even my BBTB story fell into it unintentionally. I always give happy endings though. Idk I think I clearly have stuff I need to work on and it comes out in the form of angst (Sunshine Child Vince crying is like a theme in my work idk, wow) but angst with a happy ending is my jam so.

Do you have a playlist or specific music you listen to while you write?

Yes. And here's where I get weird. I like to make 'soundtracks' to my fics compiled of music I think fits the tone/meaning of what's happening. And then I'll listen to that basically on constant repeat while I'm writing. It's a trend I started when I was at university the first time (studying theatre and Creative writing) and my writing mentor was helping us to find ways to explore what keeps us creatively driven/inspired? And some people liked silence (which I totally get I need silence when I edit) and some people liked to sit in the library and listen to people talk etc, but I found music is usually what does it for me? I have an overactive imagination anyway but something about music helps chanel it into one specific idea and things just bloom. Like when you imagine music videos in your head but I'm imagining characters in situations and dialogue and stuff! My friends used to play a game where they'd send me a random song and a pairing and I'd see what story I could come up with just based off that (this is why all my fics are titled after songs guys)

Are there things you like to do when writing?

Indeed! I have a desk by the window and if I'm not sitting there chances are I'll not get a thing done. Other than my music I like to be away from all distractions so no other people or TV or anything. And then I'll just go at it! I'll take breaks maybe one every hour or so to stretch or do a chore that needs doing (like changing the bed or putting a load of washing in) and then come back! I also drink like 90 cups of tea

What writing program do you use?

Google docs! Purely because I don't know when to stop and this way I can access from my phone - when I'm on the bus. Or when I've shut off my pc and made myself go to bed then I just open it on my phone in bed and keep working.

How long have you been writing?

Oh wow. Um a long long time. In terms of fic I wrote a Dr who fanfic when I was about 8 in the back of my school book (that my teacher found and was v concerned by). All about what adventures I'd go on with the doctor. Then when I got my first laptop would write stuff every chance I got! I only Published my first work in 2014 though because until that point I was just a bit too anxious about it all. But yeah it's been something I've done for as long as I can remember (Fun Fact I got into University for writing by sending them an excerpt of a fanfic I was writing - which just... Sums up my disaster energy)

In terms of not fanfic writing? I wrote a (very badly done) fairytale when I was about 6 to read to my younger brother and my parents literally had it bound and kept cause they thought it was cute. And Im the kind of creative type that burns up inside if I'm not creating so I spend most of my waking hours writing something. Poems or working on my novel or some of the short stories I write! It'll hopefully be something I make money off some day (I've had poems published so fingers crossed for a book soon)!

1. how tall are you? im 5′1 and three quarters !! i often experience my “pals” using my shoulder as an arm rest !!

2. what color and style is your hair? slightly wavy, side-parted dark brown hair. i guess you could say i have a girl emo fringe but thats mainly bc im too lazy to do anything w my hair, as it is tOO THICK TO FUNCTION. i can barely put it into a ponytail for fuck sake ((side note: due to my lack of sleep and high levels of stress my hair actually has hundreds of different undertones like white, blonde, red, and all that jazz but you cant see them unless i put my hair up !! )) ((its not cool its unbelievably unhealthy))

4. do you wear glasses? i actually have 19/10 horrible vision and i do need glasses, but instead i wear night time contacts. theyre pretty cool as you wear the same pair every night and once you remove them in the morning you can magically see !! however my doctor refuses to give me my prescription, which saddens me as i am sometimes too lazy to put on my contacts and render close to blind the following day

9. what is your favorite subject? i love learning in general and have a certain affinity for specific aspects of every subject, but if i had to choose id probably go with algebra and language arts.

SO’S GLEE EPISODE RANKING: NO. 12

I started a Full Glee Episode Ranking between seasons 5 and 6 over two years ago now (!!!). My opinions have changed somewhat since then (retrospect is an interesting thing), and I need to include the thirteen season six episodes I neglected in my original list.  With the two year anniversary of the show being over a few months away, I thought I’d count down to by posting an episode every day.  I’ll tag using: glee episode rankings

Here we go…

12. Guilty Pleasures (4x17)

Well -- here’s my top pick for Season 4.  And the thing I keep coming back to about this one is that it’s not only really funny, and a bit heartwarming, and I can pretty much sit through the whole thing without wanting to skip through anything.  Sure, the Rachel/Brody nonsense is a bit eye-rolly, but it’s at least nice to be done with it.  Otherwise, the rest of this episode is pure crackiness -- and this is (obviously since it’s near the top of my list) the type of Glee I really enjoy.  Though instead of the crackiness usually being one plot line -- it’s all of them! 

So - there’s the Blam story line, where Blaine and Sam not only kick off the whole guilty pleasures theme of the episode, but we get the resolution of Blaine’s crush on Sam -- and I really love everything about it.  It’s nice that they let Blaine and Sam being relatively low drama.  I’m of mind this was kind of a redo of how they handled the Kurt/Finn stuff earlier in the series (not that that was bad or wrong -- just that this is mellow-er and more uplifting? Less dramatic?) Anyway...it’s such a fun story. 

Meanwhile, everyone else is chatting away about their guilty pleasures, too, and we get a lot of little cracky moments, and fun things to do, and it really uses the ensemble well, especially putting the old characters in with the newbies.  It’s around this time that I did start to enjoy the newbies, because everyone was doing stuff together. 

Meanwhile over in New York -- the theme of guilty pleasures continues!! Why couldn’t they figure out how to do sprawling thematic things before? Idk. But we get Kurt and his boyfriend arm and his cheesy sitcoms and his banter with Santana and all is wonderful.  

The stuff with Rachel and Brody comes to head (finally, thank god)  It’s probably the weakest (idk if weakest is the right word, least enjoyable?) part of the episode, but I’m so happy it’s over, I don’t even care.  Brody had been a dead weight since....idk, most of this season? But I think the best part is Rachel coming to the conclusion that she isn’t as grown up as she think she is, man I’m glad that Rachel’s season 4 story isn’t about her being right, but her struggling to grow up, and I can get behind Rachel’s story so much better now.  

High Points:

Sam’s macaroni art.

I think Blaine’s crush on Sam is cute - and I really love the whole Blam story line in this one, and the resolution is so pitch perfect.

Man - I would have watched an hour of Kurt and Santana watching old TV sitcoms. 

Golden Hoola-Hoop of Destiny! There was no Klaine in this episode.  But the fact that between the editing, and the subtle nods, it felt like it was an underneath current -- and it was nice to have. 

There’s no Will or Sue in this episode.  I think that speaks volumes. 

Low Points:

Why didn’t Kurt and Santana have more pacts? Why wasn’t New York more about Kurt and Santana and less about Rachel? Also - why does season four have a trend of taking Kurt stories and turning them into Rachel stories by the end? **sigh**

Brittany continually calling Unique Mercedes.  No, Glee. Not funny. 

Music:

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go: Blaine and Sam sing Wham! And it’s so much fun in all its 80s glory. 

Copacabana: Not a personal favorite song, but Sam does well, and it’s hilarious how they act out the song in the performance. 

Against All Odds: It’s a lovely Blaine solo.  (Yup, that’s all I’m saying for now.)

Wanna Be: Spice Girls! Lots of points for the costumes.  Again, the girls sound good, and it’s really fun to watch.

My Prerogative: Jake’s dancing is always great to watch.  Not a personal favorite, but it’s well done. 

Creep: This is my kind of WTF moment of this episode? Does this song make sense as a break up song? I...don’t think so? It’s weird, but it kind of fits in with the weirdness of this episode. 

Mamma Mia: Yes! I love this group number! It’s kind of a perfect way to end this awesome episode. 

Final Verdict: It’s got great music, and cracky stor lines, and is just all around a lot of fun.  Yup, definitely the best of season 4.
