I love to think that even when Katelyn tells these relatively harmless stories about her sister Aaron never dismisses her feelings about it. When Katelyn is upset with her sister, and Aaron is expecting that she's doing drugs or being violent, but she just fell out with her over a hormonal argument over dog-sitting while their parents go on vacation, Aaron never tells her that it's a pointless argument. He never tells her that worse things could be happening. He holds her when she cries about how her sister doesn't care about her (when he thinks he knows what that really feels like), when she cries about how her sister hates her (when he knows she doesn't). It makes him feel a little more normal, sometimes. To be caught up in the meaningless and silly arguments that he knows will be over in a couple of days.

But on the other side of things, she never makes him feel crazy or insane when he talks about his problems with Andrew. She tries her best not to bat an eyelid when he talks about how Andrew locked him in a bathroom for a month when he was withdrawing (while thinking about how the worst thing her sister ever did was cut a bald spot in Katelyn's hair when she was six years old).

I like to think that he'll tell a story about Andrew, something theoretically crazy, and Katelyn will match it with a story much more mundane, but it shows how she understands their problems. I can't think of a good example but something like:

Aaron: Andrew made me promise not to date anyone but he's dating Neil.

Katelyn: That reminds me of when my sister made me promise not to sneak out of the house as a teenager but I caught her doing it allll the time! It sucks when people can't hold up their end of a deal.

And like, he knows they don't really equate. Not in their severity, not really. But it makes him feel more normal when she sees his sibling problems in the same realm as she sees hers.

Hello, I just sent my application in, and I noticed Ren is missing from the CCs list. I'm not unwilling to draw him, but I wanted to help with the eventual oversight.

Also, I was a bit confused by the answer to the ask for writers about the CCs list, so I ticked the ones I'd prefer not to draw as the main focus but are still fine to have in the art piece. Is that the correct interpretation, and if not, can I modify it?

Peng mentioned wukong two times in the middle of a battle to the death (the hold over macaque line, and the fighting alongside macaque replacements). Can't convinced me peng didn't constantly talk about wukong towards macaque to hit his weak spot. And peng would not care if wukong was there to hear It or not. If wukong heard even 1% of down bad macaque taunting, he has no excuse

Wukong would also punt Peng to the Heavens if he heard that which might be why lmk had to distract him during the Peng v Max fight

i feel like sometimes in fandom spaces, people get a little too heated at others for "mischaracterising" a character and i just. i dont know. it rubs me the wrong way sometimes because i think everyone is going to interpret a character differently from each other because of their own life experiences if that makes sense

I'll say this: I love how this podcast takes the classic acd cases and reinvents them to make them make more sense in the modern day setting! The irony of a mysterious crime being committed for a Criminology controlled assessment is perfect, and honestly a step up from the original being about a Greek exam.

Sherlock: “I will take on the case, you have my word that-“ Soames: “What about the speech?” Sherlock: “…I forgot about that”, Sherlock why do you do this to yourself?

People ask me sometimes how I'm so confident that we can beat climate change.

There are a lot of reasons, but here's a major one: it would take a really, really long time for Earth to genuinely become uninhabitable for humans.

Humans have, throughout history, carved out a living for themselves in some of the most harsh, uninhabitable corners of the world. The Arctic Circle. The Sahara. The peaks of the Himalayas. The densest, most tropical regions of the Amazon Rainforest. The Australian Outback. etc. etc.

Frankly, if there had been a land bridge to Antarctica, I'm pretty sure we would have been living there for thousands of years, too. And in fact, there are humans living in Antarctica now, albeit not permanently.

And now, we're not even facing down apocalypse, anymore. Here's a 2022 quote from the author of The Uninhabitable Earth, David Wallace-Wells, a leader on climate change and the furthest thing from a climate optimist:

"The most terrifying predictions [have been] made improbable by decarbonization and the most hopeful ones practically foreclosed by tragic delay. The window of possible climate futures is narrowing, and as a result, we are getting a clearer sense of what’s to come: a new world, full of disruption but also billions of people, well past climate normal and yet mercifully short of true climate apocalypse. Over the last several months, I’ve had dozens of conversations — with climate scientists and economists and policymakers, advocates and activists and novelists and philosophers — about that new world and the ways we might conceptualize it. Perhaps the most capacious and galvanizing account is one I heard from Kate Marvel of NASA, a lead chapter author on the fifth National Climate Assessment: “The world will be what we make it.”" -David Wallace-Wells for the New York Times, October 26, 2022

If we can adapt to some of the harshest climates on the planet - if we could adapt to them thousands of years ago, without any hint of modern technology - then I have every faith that we can adjust to the world that is coming.

What matters now is how fast we can change, because there is a wide, wide gap between "climate apocalypse" and "no harm done." We've already passed no harm done; the climate disasters are here, and they've been here. People have died from climate disasters already, especially in the Global South, and that will keep happening.

But as long as we stay alive - as long as we keep each other alive - we will have centuries to fix the effects of climate change, as much as we possibly can.

And looking at how far we've come in the past two decades alone - in the past five years alone - I genuinely think it is inevitable that we will overcome climate change.

So, we're going to survive climate change, as a species.

What matters now is making sure that every possible individual human survives climate change as well.

What matters now is cutting emissions and reinventing the world as quickly as we possibly can.

What matters now is saving every life and livelihood and way of life that we possibly can.

There's an aspect of Original!Elias Bouchard that makes me so sad to think about in a weird kind of "meta" way.

And that's the fact that he has to be labelled as the "OG" not as Elias.

Technically speaking Elias has been dead for years. It's Jonah that's taken over - literally having his eyes removed and replacing them with his own and living as him (he even seemingly keeps his "old fashioned haircut" on Elias' hair).

And yet we as the audience don't often call that form of Jonah "JONAH". Instead it's Elias, cause he's been Elias for 4 series at this point.

"Elias started the apocalypse", "Elias beat that old man to death with a metal pipe" when it was never really Elias in the first place.

He's been so robbed of his own identity that not even death can spare him; all of Jonah's actions in his body are recognised as him.

(Btw this isn't me saying you can't call Jonah!Elias straight up Elias, I do that regularly ofc. I'm just being emo rn lol)

idk if this is accurate but i’ve felt like in previous seasons riz & gorgug have been one of the inter-bad kids dynamics we’ve seen the least of & this season has been so great in that aspect. gorgug having helped make some of riz’s magic gear. riz helping gorgug with his studies. the shared birthday party. gorgug’s gift to riz being something he himself made to protect riz. riz’s gift to gorgug being something he illegally grabbed to protect gorgug. gorgug who utilizes rage to put his body on the line for his friends & riz who will take deep levels of mental stress for his friends. even though it was within the context of a joke, riz calling gorgug an “absolute sweetie.” like yea they might not be in a band together or both part of a presidential campaign team or owlbears teammates, but they’d go to war for each other, because they’re best friends.

arthur born of magic who lives where magic is outlawed and merlin who is magic and is forced to keep it bottled up recognizing each other without seeing the other. arthur who always feels a vague sense of numbness except when he’s around merlin bc the magic that is threaded through his very being wakes and buzzes in emrys’s presence, recognizing its kin. merlin who is constantly restless beneath his skin, his magic buzzing to be set free, finally feeling at peace with arthur, his magic warming and stilling beneath his skin. arthur feeling deprived of air or food or water when merlin leaves bc the life that flared inside him fades when merlin leaves. merlin feeling restless when he’s not with arthur bc his magic which has previously been content to reside within him is now lashing out, desperate for either constant release or arthur’s presence. arthur taking his aggravation out of his knights during training when suddenly he feels alive again and his frustration wanes and then merlin calls out across the field. merlin putting the restless energy toward scrubbing the floors until the itching beneath his skin suddenly fades and then the door to the chambers burst open and arthur waltzes in.
