every time you hear something new you and Illumi whisk away to some corner and chat quietly

no matter what you tell him he's surprisingly interested, he can and will gossip like a teenage girl

sometimes when he feels like a job is too much of a hassle he lets you handle it with your death scream thingy

he's not a lazy person but everyone has their moments

you are his personal little ghostlike assistant

Chrollo Lucilfer

yeah he's making you one of the supportive members of the troupe

he uses you to gather information with your heightened hearing and ability to predict the death of others

probably asks you if you can contact the dead

if you can then awesome, now you can answer a lot of his questions but if not then oh well

since you can fly pretty fast sometimes he has you snatch up people for questioning

he avoids using you for offensive purposes because your screams reach very far and could possibly accidentally kill him or the other troupe members

so when he does you're usually alone

you were able to sense that Uvo was going to die and also the exact moment he did

knowing his friend would die didn't make it any less painful for Chrollo tho :(

Feitan Portor

he thinks you're a valuable asset to the troupe

most of the time when it comes to catching people for torture and interrogation Chrollo sends you two

you guys are the perfect team for the job honestly, you can catch enemies quickly and also attack them from long distances while Feitan handles all the gross torture stuff

he probably carries ear plugs for this so yk..you don't accidentally kill him when you scream at the enemy

when you predicted Uvo would die after the first run in with the shadow beasts Feitan is like no way

then all of that shit happens yada yada yada then he goes to fight Kurapika and he actually dies

and Feitan was like fuck you were right

now he knows not to doubt your morbid intuition..

What’s your biggest grievance with the way people write luke skywalker? (As someone who loves dinluke but has never seen the movies lolll)

Writing him the way Disney does, basically. Or making him mean. Or holding him to a weirdly higher standard than they do other characters and then shitting on him for it.

Canon Luke Skywalker can be impulsive and quick to anger (and sort of whiny in the first movie, but he's supposed to be, he's young), but the core of him is that he is a kind man. Almost gentle, for an action movie hero. He's not traditionally masculine and this has always bothered some people. Even at the time of the original trilogy's release, Han was far more popular.

Disney stripped a lot of that away. Luke would not try to kill his nephew "because he was scared of what he would become." He would not have ran away from everything and everyone he loves. He would not have abandoned the galaxy for personal reasons. This is supposed to be the same man who turned himself over to the Empire because he felt the tiniest spark of good in his fascist father, who had 23 years of experience committing horrific violence on the galaxy and thought he could save him?

I'm not buying it

Even Mark Hamill has come out saying that the Luke he had to act in the sequels isn't even vaguely the same character. Luke's choice to choose forgiveness and kindness in the face of despair and rage and hate is the core of him.

Essentially, he doesn't have to be your favorite character, and you don't even have to like him that much, but if you hate Luke Skywalker the way Disney seems to, then you don't understand Star Wars.

Now, I actually do enjoy alternate character interpretations and I don't really mind people pulling characters to an extreme of their personality. But you can tell when someone didn't do the "reading" beforehand. You gotta know canon to break canon in a satisfying way

Addendum: I hope you pick the movies up, anon! They're great. There's an alternate watching order called Machete Order that really makes the parallels between the originals and the prequels shine through:

A New Hope -> Empire Strikes Back -> Attack of the Clones -> Revenge of the Sith -> Return of the Jedi

You can put Phantom Menace in there before AotC, but the "official" Machete Order omits it because the guy who thought it up didn't like it. It's a polarizing movie for anyone who's old enough to have seen it in theaters. Your call, honestly.

What this does is make the finer details of Luke's refusal to turn and give in to his rage really obvious because you watch it on the tail of seeing Anakin completely crumble. And when Vader is watching Luke spurn the Emperor, you know the specific events he's remembering and some of the more specific feelings he's feeling.

Watching the OT by itself or with all the prequels before/after is just as valid, but if you're watching for a Luke Skywalker character study, then Machete Order is worth a consideration

oooHHH- Meru, my dear, I was going to wait until I had time to draw something before talking about it since I normally do that. But you guys have been talking about it so l can't hold back anymore.

Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t played the game~

(And talk about dark themes. 🫶✨)

Inserting my live reaction here to keep others from accidentally looking at spoilers like I do sometimes:

SO!!!

Based on what I saw in the game, yeah. Starling definitely loved Maelyn. Or at least felt an affection for her. An approximation of those feelings for her. Ultimately, Starling isn’t a human and doesn’t seem to operate quite the way that we would emotionally or mentally (wow that sounds so BAD I SWEAR I DIDN’T MEAN IT IN A BAD WAY-).

Like you said, Starling goes out of his way to dress Maelyn up and even remembers what she said about the “collar” in order to keep her while making sure it isn’t hurting her.

The whole thing didn’t feel malicious, really. Even the drowning. It just felt like he didn’t really understand the consequences of that one action. I hesitate to make the comparison, but Starling kinda feels childlike somehow. I don’t mean this in a way to infantilize the character at all, I swear. It’s just the way he reacts to things. Very dangerous baby with big pointy claws and teeth, lololol.

And you’re definitely right about him being able to make you forget that he’s very capable of violence. Because even when he does things that could be considered violent, it’s in such a way that it doesn’t come off as such. I feel that this aspect of him was reflected pretty well in the game as it is from Maelyn’s perspective and she kinda just goes “well there goes my fingers oh well-“ It was to the point that I was like “wait wait wait rewind and lemme move my bang so I can read that again- her FINGERS??? JUST??? GONE??? LIKE THAT???” But, then again, you could argue that it was partially because of her mental state as well. And I think the whole almost childlike feeling I got from Starling only plays into this whole thing about him feeling almost safe at times even with his glaringly obvious “otherness”.

It doesn’t help that he was so amicable for the most part. But that was likely because he was getting everything he wanted up until Maelyn said she would only come back after four days.

Onto a few other things… This game reminded me of things about myself that I forgot about for a while LOLOLOL-

It was funny because. I got the marriage ending first. But while playing the first time and getting to the part where we first see him open himself up… I was like “what if I just crawled in there- no I shouldn’t think that,,,” THEN LOW AND BEHOLD. WHEN I GOT THE OTHER ENDING- 😂😭

This is such a good analyses honestly, and yes you are right, Starling is quite childish. It's not that he has the mind or mental capacity of a child but it's in a bit of a "pure" state if you will. It really makes me want to talk about his backstory but that's why we are making bonus episodes.

Maelyn as a character definitely effects our perception of the events as well. Honestly if that happened to my fingers I'd pass out right then and there.

It's so funny how you mind aligned with Maelyn's, I'm sure she would love to try licking his insides (he did kiss his heart)

I dunno what this says about me but… I hate that? Lolll I know nothing about this series except for this excerpt but I had an immediate ‘no thank you’ reaction to it. Maybe because it literally reads like something copy and pasted from a (harrymort) fanfiction. The thought that there are people out there publishing work taking direct inspiration from fanfic writers does not sit well with me (assuming they are not also the one who wrote the fanfic). Though I’m sure that happens all the time, sadly. And Lord Ruler??? Really??? We couldn’t come up with a more interesting title? Eek.

further analysis now that I’ve thought about it more, and why it perhaps reads like fanfiction: using the word ‘confident’ to describe someone when they’re being appraised physically isn’t great imo. Show me a character is confident by their actions, not by telling me, damn it! And the internal dialogue of ‘he was young, even younger than XYZ person’—how do you know just by looking what anyone’s precise age is, Vin? I would think a better way to describe his shock at his supposed youth would be to leave that comparison out and say something more like ‘he looked shockingly young for how renowned he was; Vin expected to see a man with silver in his hair, and perhaps some deep set wrinkles.’

ouueeehh we're back to my corny love letters like last time 💜 again absolutely NO pressure reading these, because it WILL get lengthy 💜 this also serves as a personal love letter that i can archive!

ahh, steven st.one. a wild card in my f/o list. i never thought i'd find myself to like him... i've always tried my best to avoid the pretty boy design after i've gotten older which is why i was oddly in denial during my early steven days hehe... the earliest memory i have of him is just me battling him in my ruby emulator back in the 4th grade - but i don't think i actually remembered him too well, i only thought he looked like a silly anime version of the classical composer be.ethoven and tbh, i still like to think he does look like him in the rse style lolll 💜

for the whole, actual story - it was just last year - i was reading the r/s arc, of course. it was one of those days in school where i had nothing much to do and snuck my phone to read manga to pass some time. at some point, my classmate joined to read with me - it was at this moment where steven debuts properly and it caught my classmate by Surprise. she thought he looked very handsome! to which i teased her... strangely enough, this exchange impacted me? maybe it's because someone acknowledged what i was doing and even bothered to briefly read along with me - so in a way steven kinda bookmarked that memory.

steven is such a nice character to begin with, he's honestly a very humble and nice champion. he's not showy about his identity and would rather be alone by himself to indulge in what he wants. he is willing to give up a very respectable position in the po.kemon league just to pursue his interests and with that i see a man not after power and fame but a man who just wants to find joy in what he does even if it demotes him. on top of that, he's just a sweet gentleman. he was raised well of course, and you can see it clearly in his acts in the story. i love him very much for that and who wouldn't want those traits?

i was really absolutely embarrassed to be all over this guy at first - it took a whole month for me to actually share to my blog about how i liked steven and took awhile to adjust to that fact that i opened up about it 😭 but the community was very kind and supportive about the pairing and if i'm being honest, i think stevaide made a super lasting impact on my blog recently and it's really so comforting to picture them as a young loving married couple with ruby. it made me feel unashamed with what i can do with my silly ships. i'm still very glad for the endless support for steven and jaide.

It was a cold afternoon, which were your favorites, especially on your day off. You were sitting on your couch, book in hand, and a hot coffee just waiting to be drank. You were trying to read since you were just running your eyes through the words and not actually internalizing them. You realize it way too late and were about to restart the paragraph when your phone rings. Checking the ID of the caller, you see your boss's name. Why on earth would your boss call on the afternoon of your first day off in weeks?

You pick up with a confused "hello," but your boss interrupts you. You weren't exactly paying attention until you heard the words "go to the address I sent you, now."

It was your first day off, and you were not, at all, not even a little bit, in the mood to go to work. You even consider asking if anyone else could do it, but, unfortunately for you, you also weren't exactly in the position to challenge or disagree in the slightest with your boss.

So, with a "Yes, sir. I'll be there" you hang up the call, and, in special agony, you get up from the cozy, warm spot in your couch, placing the book where you were sitting. You'll have your actual complete day off eventually. Not now, though.

After a quick shower and change of clothes, you walk out of your apartment, checking your phone for the address your boss sent you, and thank whoever is out there for it not being too far from your workplace and home.

After stopping by at work to clock in and get what you needed to go over to the address, you get to the place you were supposed to be.

You knock on the door once. No response. So you knock again, praying that there was actually no one so you could just go back home.

Suddenly, a tall, handsome man opens the door for you. You analyze his appearance quickly: brown colored hair falling ever so slightly in his face, a professional work outfit, and a tired look.

- Hi. - you introduce yourself, and he does too. You wal inside in a shy step, noticing a certain disorganization. Nothing you weren't used to.

— Sorry about the mess, we had a little accident this morning. - he says with an apologetic look, guiding you over to where his mother, your possible future patient, was seated on the couch.

— It's okay, Dr. Reid, accidents happen. Hi, Diana. - you introduce yourself to her, not expecting a fancy or coherent response, and you weren't certainly surprised when she got up and just left. Her son, Dr. Reid, starts apologizing, but you interrupt him. – Don't worry, this kind of interactions happen, there are days and days. We could talk, or would you prefer for me to come back another time?

He runs a hand through his hair, deciding to talk.

— We should start with the basics then. What kind of medicine is she taking?

Reid proceeds to talk about his mother's conditions, and how it progressed over time. Nothing way out of the ordinary, also presenting his mom's medicine, which were pretty standard for the treatment of Alzheimers and schizophrenia.

— Well, Dr. Reid, I think we're done here. I would be happy to show up tomorrow.

— Really? - he questioned, genuinely surprised, murmuring 'thank yous' with an unexpected hug. His arms were warm, cozy even. It didn't last long, as Reid apologized and walked you out. You were definitely coming back.

03/03/2025 Progress Update:

Did about five pages of drafting today (don’t wanna get up to grab my laptop so I can see the actual word count lol, sorry I’m mega falling asleep.) Not a ton, but most of today was more structuring/restructuring of the first section for better flow anyway. I’m calling this another three-sectioned chapter, but each can be broken up into mini sections so, if we get specific, it’s more like six. Jesus look at her tryna cram all her shit in, she crazy.

I had the incredibly interesting experience today of chatting on-and-off for like 9 hours with a hardcore oumota fan. My admittedly naive and probably not-the-best-worded post about wondering if saiouma is considered a toxic ship prompted them to reach out to me, and we had an eye-opening conversation, to say the least!

What an experience, like I’m honestly so glad to have had it. I do not and probably will never ship oumota (too many things with it just kinda make me feel icky? but I think that’s more like a preference thing) but before I spoke with this person, I couldn’t FATHOM how anyone could even ENTERTAIN that pairing. But then I had someone extremely passionate, thoughtful, and well-worded explain it to me and… I was just blown away. Because I can see it now, why that would be appealing, and it compels me to ponder hard about the inherent TRAGEDY of that ship. Enough it had me legitimately feeling so SAD by the end of the conversation and truly I didn’t expect that. All just to say I’ve come away with a greater understanding and perhaps even respect for that side of the fandom.

Still, it’s a bit too downcast of a ship for me, I’d say. To me, when I like a ship it’s because I legitimately think the characters would go well together. And I’m learning that might not be the case for everyone, which is incredibly intriguing. I like my angst (fucking duh) and I enjoy exploring parts of the relationship that are broken, BUT I ultimately enjoy it because I think, after the cracks are smoothed out, it could become an incredible relationship. And I feel, out of almost all the pairings you could make in this silly game, saiouma does that for me the best.

Either way, this has been such an intriguing experience, and I don’t think I’d hate to try reading oumota fics at some point, just to venture into the unknown. Bravely, I would have to be. Very brave lol. Clench my teeth and do my best sort of brave 🗡️ Knight Kiwi to fight off her oumota dragons that she is deathly afraid of lolll

ok I haven’t thought much about her before, but u got me thinking sooo here ya go!! I’ve never really done miscellaneous headcanons for a character before, but I’m trying my best! And thanks sm for asking, this was a lot of fun :)

-first off: I fear I must yap about her relationship with two bits sister, but that deserves a post of its own so send me another ask if ur interested 😭😭

-ok I think she’s actually pretty school smart

-thing is teachers never expect anything from her, she gets bullied by her peers, and her teachers don’t even care, so she ends up skipping a lot of school cuz she just doesn’t think it’s worth it

-she’s also helllllllla good at math, and she enjoys it too! Tho she’d never really admit that to anyone

-she absolutely hates science just cuz it makes no sense to her

-oh god and history is her least favorite of all time because what they teach is so fucking sanitized and also extremely racist

-she she used to enjoy English though, because I feel like she’s the kind of person who uses stories as a way of escaping her shitty situation

-but at some point she fell so behind in that class that she just doesn’t understand and of the books that they’re reading

-I feel like she met the gang when she was 12 or 13

-people always think her and two bit are dating but they’re literally just friends who cuddle allll the time

-when Marcia and cherry start hanging around the gang more, she flirts with them a ton even tho they’re both in very strong relationships with her friends lmao

cathy is trickier. i actually think kaya scodelario was a pretty solid choice for her! even though she has the slightest hint of iphone face syndrome, she does look like a bratty, impertinent only child who only wants to gallop off into the mist and thinks the world should bend to her every whim. but it has been 13 years since that adaptation, and if we want to find someone closer to catherine's age for a movie now, then maybeeee hannah dodd? the new girl who plays francesca bridgerton? i feel like the main characteristics when i imagine catherine earnshaw are that she looks beautiful, mean, and sickly lolll. although hannah is a natural blonde and her face gives me more 40s-50s period drama vibes than gothic lit, her sarah chapman in enola holmes is the vibe i would go for

as for the other characters i think edgar linton should be played by that dude who did president snow in the prequel. tom blyth? someone who's diametrically opposed to dev patel obviously. and nelly should be played by an actress who feels very Mom, even though warmth is pretty much the last thing any of these people should emit to fit into this universe. i have no ideas here but yeah mom vibes are important - she's the narrator, the person who invites the reader into the story, so she's quite literally birthing these characters.
