How would you describe the differences between Afk Journey Lorsan, Lyca, and Eironn with Afk Arena Lorsan, Lyca, and Eironn?

I started playing afk journey, and I can't help but feel like some of the wilders are out of character

Whewww this was a long one 😩😩 sorry for leaving u for a bit, my exams ended and I’m sick rn :,( below are just my brief thoughts on specific characters that are in both Arena and Journey.

This post has an analysis on Lyca and Lorsan, then I just try and make some backstory explanations for Niru, Thoran, Rowan, and Satrana for Journey Lore goers.

This post is for anon but also anyone interested in the changes they’ve made between Arena and Journey! Feel free to add more 🙏🙏

What I think they’ve done is taken one or two traits from a character, and tried to make it the main focus of their personality. But it takes over the entire character, and ultimately leaves them a bit flat. I think they tried to make the wilders “emotional” but ended up scraping their intellectual and leadership traits. Not to say they’re idiots now, but they don’t have the same depth as before.

Lyca is more emotionally charged when we talk to her now, more than in arena. Her original story makes sure we know she’s a kind, nurturing person, capable of bringing out the best in others. In arena they delve into her personal relationships with others a lot, but aside from Eironn appointing her in charge while he leaves, she doesn’t have the same energy. She does try to bring Eironn into the group more so he can learn to rely on others, but the storyline was more like her trying to help a friend than her unearthing a talent or trait. She doesn’t hold herself to the same standards, saying she will “enter competitions where winning is secured.” Vs Lyca in Arena, who— although losing faith in herself— fights against the words of everyone else and believes in own abilities. In Journey, she’s the leader of our group. But in Arena, she’s truly the leader of the dusk watch, and a strong voice for everyone in the dark forest. Attached some screenshots to try and help explain my thoughts below

I’ve talked about ALorsan vs JLorsan before, but I think I can refine my thoughts from then. He’s always been sort of.. air headed? A little aloof but very smart, and always very connected to the environment around him. JLorsan however, is pretty much ready to throw down with everyone. He makes quips at his friends often, causes mischief, and helps battle enemies during the story. ALorsan is definitely the opposite for me. Always a laid back, accepting individual, who feels well put together. He rarely gets mad, and when he does, it’s because he feels people’s wellbeing’s are at stake. He’s described by Rowan as a “calm monk” and I think that sums it up well. He’s a little detached from reality, but it’s because he’s always absorbing nature and listening to what’s around him. I like him in Journey, but he loses his deep connection with the world, and although he still has it (somewhat), it’s clearly not as present anymore. Below are some story tib bits I nabbed from Rowan, Rigby, and Lorsan’s story in Arena in case anyone wants to read them.

Rowan’s character has stayed pretty consistent between the two games, but I feel like they leave out a lot about his backstory. As (I assume) most arena lore-ians know, Rowan’s father was a regular guy who— through his wits and good investments— became Esperia’s youngest and wealthiest noble. He had 2 sons, Angelo his oldest (hippie bard), and Rowan his youngest. They were raised to understand that money can be gained and taken easily, and that they need to know how to be self sufficient despite their wealth. But Angelo didn’t want to be a noble, and ran away to travel the world and spread his songs. Everything fell to Rowan, including an engagement to the Kings daughter Peggy (yeowchhhh). But Rowan felt dissatisfied that everything would just fall into his lap. He wanted to reach the top on his own, so he could come back and feel like he truly proved himself.

Almost none of this is included in game! Journey only writes about how his father is the richest noble, and that Rowan was born incredibly rich. They did manage to keep the honest and empathetic traits he holds himself to as a business man though, so I’m only here to say— WHY DIDNT THEY ADD IN HIS ENTIRE BACKSTORY 😭😭 we literally meet Peggy in game but they don’t end up elaborating on why they’re “engaged” or why Rowan “ran off.” If you don’t play arena, you’re left to assume he’s a rich kid who’s out in the world doing business. They do the same to most of the others too, where they don’t include any of their previously established lore.

Niru was an army solider, who was away from his wife and kid often. He was around the dead enough that he began to dabble in necromancy before he was discovered and promptly executed. But a little before that, he managed to cast a spell that would bring him back to life. After that, he goes back to his Wife (after their kid died!) and resurrects his kid INFRONT OF HIS GRIEVING WIFE 😭😭 in arena he travels with his family to lead lost souls home, but if I were his family I’d be a just a teensy bit angry.

Thoran was once a very generous and loving king. He was beloved by his kingdom, and cherished peaceful times. His brother Edwin however, was a warmonger and wanted to bring back glorious battle. Thoran disagreed, and so Edwin gathered those under his influence and assassinated both Thoran and their Sister, Theowyn, along with all his adversaries. But Thoran’s loyal guard (gay ass) was brought back to life by Queadam, who had him perform a ritual to bring back his king. Now a graveborn, Thoran was filled with hate and anger. He ordered a mass execution of his entire kingdom, then brought them back to life under a curse that swore they’d all be loyal to him. This branches out into OTHER characters who aren’t in Journey lmao

Satrana had specifically her job altered. Now she’s what i assume is a wandering diviner. Before, she was a temple disciple under the mauler temple’s elder. Before that, she was a slave who was constantly abused. She fled, and Antandra was the one who saved her. This is also why Antandra is an exile, she believed in helping everyone and went against the temple’s elders. So in the end, Antandra was exiled for helping a girl, one who was eventually taken in by the temple itself. Crazy. I know there’s a storyline update in Journey about them now, but there’s also one in arena so if anyone could tell me about it I’ll exchange info

SLIABH DONARD PRIMER

This is Sliabh Donard, my OC. She used to be a Bloodborne Hunter OC but now she has her own story she is in. She's very big, very Irish, and very much does not like you. In Bloodborne, she uses the Logarius Wheel and lives in the Forbidden Woods. In her actual story, (my story, Feyfeller), she wields a tree trunk full of iron rods and she lives in a post-apocalypse Irish mythos world trapped in eternal autumn twilight (it's doing pretty well for itself compared to Yharnam).

Sliabh "The Bear" Donard is a butcher who also moonlights as a hunter/tracker for everything (and everyone) that goes bump in the night. A former murderer banished from her homeland, Sliabh has come to Delphine to work as a butcher, though when dark things crawl out from their nooks and dens, Sliabh wrenches them out and makes sure they don't get to live in the light. Silent, measured, and constantly holding back a burning rage, she hates the Fey and has honed her trapping and tracking craft to suite her cruelty. Thanks to a curse from the Courts, she can't die but feels every death she experiences. If you've pissed her off, nothing will stop her from coming back to get what she thinks she's owed. When not at work, she enjoys manual labour, taking care of her daughters, and wandering the shops in town to indulge in a secret sweet tooth.

Tiberius "Tib" Rex, Esq. is a professional dandy and defense attorney who loves to use his clients to abuse and fuck with the law. Astute, shrewd, and villainously ambitious, Tib is the 7th son of a 7th son who Fey absolutely love and are entertained by (mostly because he loves to be obnoxious). Gifted with the power to never stay dead, he finds a kinship in one of his clients, The Bear. Tib works out of a brothel and often travels for work, making more enemies than friends but always bringing back an interesting tale to tell (or mysterious stranger to keep him company on a lonely bar hopping night)

Sliabh really really really hates him, but between hunting criminals and monsters, they're the best at what they do. They bring out the worst in each other, but Sliabh feels she has a personal debt to pay off with Tib saving her. He often calls on her to do his dirty work, which she carries out with a ruthless efficiency. He doesn't really have a kind comment for her either, but occasionally she gets holidays off from murder and mayhem.

Not much to update on Tib.

Around 3am I get a ping on my ring camera which had me at full adrenaline but it just detected one of the always-loose and half feral huskies from next door went into my yard to lick up the scraps of food I've put out to lure Tib from several days ago.

One of my biggest speculative fears is that one of them chased him off last week into the brush across the street where coyotes most certainly den.

My only counter speculation is Tib wandered the opposite direction out of a hole in my arborvitae since he's at least aware of the dogs being there just from the window.

He handles dogs pretty well in the house but who's to guess how he'd react outdoors and overstimulated.

Holding out hope is both soothing and incredibly painful. I don't like being so melodramatic but that's just what tragedy does to you.

On to the sneak peek list! (Don't ask me if I have made up registered names for them because I admit to nothing)

Sesame, a buckskin quarter horse mare. She's docile, she's nice, she can be bribed with snacks and pets. Calm in every situation, might only have one braincell bouncing around. Cons? She's stubborn and a bit lazy. You won't be racing to the finish line, but she'll get you where you need to go. Eventually.

Armani, a dapple gray quarter horse gelding. You wanna go fast? Armani can go fast. He can go very fast. Riding this horse from place A to B feels like fast traveling, and he could go for miles if there was no one to stop him. Downsides, actually stopping. He doesn't want to slow down and throws tantrums, thus showing what a good bucking bronc he could've been.

Blue, a black overo paint horse gelding. Fearless, confident, and distrusting of strangers, a guard dog in a horse body and could probably fight off a tank. It takes time for this big guy to warm up to people, and he might even be plotting to sacrifice you to the horse gods, but once he sees you as a friend he'll literally break through fences to protect you. Whether you need it or not.

Dulce, a bay clydesdale mare. She's tall and imposing, a mountain of a horse. Luckily for everyone involved, she's very much a cuddle bug and wouldn't hurt a fly. She might be a bit skittish and afraid of things like leaves and a soft breeze, but she'll show you affection like no other. Just tie her up properly when running errands or she'll wander off to ask for cuddles from strangers.

Alice's gelding is a cremello Lusitano named Romeo, and he's spoiled, extra, and dramatic, he's practically perfected the hair flip. Will bite as a warning and pretend it wasn't him. ( Ref ).

Like Memphis, Mace's blue roan quarter horse stallion, exceptionally trained bucking boy who behaves immaculately most of the time, sometimes he's just a big puppy. ( Ref )

Judge owns a black Percheron mare who is pretty much just like him; calm, collected, and doesn't flinch for anything. He calls her Delta, but some townsfolk like calling her Jury. ( Ref ).

Sadie doesn't have a horse but she does share a house with a calico cat named Gordo, a big chonky boy who likes to scream, and a much more agile supermodel Siamese named Tiburon (Or Tibs for short). ( Ref Gordo ) ( Ref Tibs ).

i'm so curious about your hermione wip! she has such a tragic and nebulous story in dh that leaves a lot of room for character arc; i'd love any hints you feel like offering :)

Yes!

I've always loved Hermione's character. When I joined the fandom, I was surprised to see negative takes on her character, although I do understand where they come from. She has flaws, can be aloof and disagreeable, almost hypocritical.

However, my take is that she is vulnerable. More so than the others despite being intelligent and high achieving. She lacks full self-awareness. She's not conscious of how her words and actions impact her friends and why that matters.

I've written TIBs in such a way that at the end of HBP, she's at least more aware of the benefits and downfalls of her somewhat contradictory nature. This emotional work is a major theme of her and Ginny's relationship in TIBs, and why I think they work so well as friends. As Ginny comes into her own, she is able to call Hermione out while giving her grace and patience in such a way that Hermione doesn't go into defensive mode like she often does with the boys.

Getting her to a place where she recognizes her flaws and vulnerabilities is one thing, but then contending with them and growing is another. She doesn't always get it right, and that is what the DH story will center around. As well as more of my missing moment headcanons through DH.

It's going to be a 5 chapter story (long chapters). One chapter for each season of DH - summer 97 through summer 98 exploring themes like...

She's a complicated character, and I don't think she's as innately "righteous" as Harry or the Weasleys. However, that's in part why she's so interesting to me. I believe that's one reason she's drawn to Ron romantically, is that he is a beacon of that loyalty, friendship, humor, and innate *goodness* that she has to work so hard to get right.

Get to know my OCs: sibling relationships:

Sentry Ojeda:

Sentry is set as Chosen to be in charge of all of his Bhaalist siblings, their perfect prince of slaughter. Tomi and Gabraela follow him without complaint, both of them fond of him in their own way with Gabraela feeling protective of him as he is a fellow tiefling young enough to be her son and she was forced to kill her own child. Tomi has a more doting older sister relationship with Sentry, content to simply be a respected daughter of Bhaal and left to her own devices until things get serious. Orin used to adore Sentry when they were younger and they would create art together and he would protect her, but Sarevok turned her against him, bitter in his own way that Sentry was so favored by Father and also that Sentry escaped the role of breeder he was born into and that Bhaal simply allowed Sentry to 'decide to be a man'. Jackal is violently jealous of Sentry and hates him, wanting nothing less than to put him in his place. Sentry has a soft spot for Orin and Tomi, but Gabraela's mothering annoys him and he wants to kill both Jackal and Sarevok painfully.

Jaina Thalassia:

Jaina and Tiburon Thalassia have probably the most normal, relatable sibling relationship. They love and care for eachother, they played together happily as children, but Tibs underestimates Jaina and views her as fragile and flighty, in need of protection and meanwhile Jaina views Tibs as foolish and content with the drudgery of being a Flaming Fist as opposed to trying for something more. They tease and needle eachother, but the family bond is there. Also part of Tibs overprotectiveness of Jaina comes from the fact that he did accidentally nearly kill her once when they were children, not that she holds it against him since it led to her being named Umberlee's chosen.

Kroger and Octavia of Creche K'liir:

While technically they are siblings by virtue of being born into the same clutch, they actually consider themselves and Lae'zel siblings because of a bond forged across battles and journeys together. They were usually grouped together in a party and worked well together/trusted eachother. Also Lae'zel saw the potential in the two despite neither being physically strong.

Ilya Barghest:

Although Ilya considers every fellow paladin trainee he studied with at The Open Hand Temple a brother in arms, he had the closest relationship with Sentry as they were both tieflings, both orphans, both trans men, and both in relationships with wealthy, powerful men. Although Sentry mostly views Ilya as an annoying pretty boy, he does have a soft, protective spot for the younger man and Ilya, completely oblivious to how he annoys Sentry, views the older paladin as his very best friend and a close confidant. Ultimately, this relationship shakes out in a positive way when all is said and done and their friendship becomes close and unbreakable. Even if Sentry still can't help but see Ilya as an annoying little brother.

Jackal Silk:

Jackal hates and resents every last one of his siblings, jealous and angry that even as a Bhaalspawn he cannot escape the role of unimportant and unimpressive extra son who exists to serve a more powerful and valuable sibling. If he had his way he would torture and murder them all, but he knows Gabraela would easily kill him and now that Sentry is fully grown and not a scared child anymore so would he. Tomi and her poisons could rob him of his mind and control of his body just like the medicines and treatments back at the madhouse, Orin is too heavily guarded by Sentry when she was young and by the cult when she becomes chosen, and Sarevok...well, Jackal figures it would be a waste since he's already come back a few times.
