hybe knowing about all of the boycotts and calling the genocide in palestine the “israel issue” is genuinely fucking insane. the fact that that they say that it was “offending korean fans” and that they were waiting for the “issue” to pass and were going to pretend that they didn’t know about international fans trying to educate groups and the company itself and trying to stop them / boycotting collaborations with zionists is the most disgusting thing i’ve ever read. i literally cannot believe that they were fighting tooth and nail to try and stop fans from speaking out and educating just so they could make a quick buck.
saying jake needed “mood management” when talking about the whole starbucks weverse post like genuinely i need that company to crash.
and don’t even get me started on all of the group documents… saying how they know how exhausted their idols look but not caring. how they kept pushing them to be “perfect” at the cost of all these idols health… this company needs to fucking burn.
keep speaking out about palestine as much as you can. keep trying to educate. KEEP BOYCOTTING!! these companies are actively trying to silence everyone about palestine and i need everyone to keep being even louder about it.
FUCK HYBE. FUCK ALL OF THESE FUCKING COMPANIES. AND FUCK ZIONISTS AND EVERYONE WHO DOESNT BELIEVE IN A FREE PALESTINE.
#sorry if this all over the place i literally cannot wrap my head around how evil these companies truly are#genuinely so pissed off reading those documents#and i didn’t even read the full thing#just some translated parts going around on twitter#so so so fucking disgusting#genuinely makes me fucking sick.#﹙🐈⬛﹚kipo rambles ༉˚.

Ukadoc has been translated into English!
Ukadoc, the official documentation for SSP, has an English translation now!
For those that don't know, Ukadoc not only includes information about all the various SHIORI Events and SakuraScript tags you can use in ghosts, but also information on how to set up files like install.txt and descript.txt, information on how the overall file structure of ghosts/balloons/ etc. should be set up, guides to setting up shells, nar files, network updates, and more! There is a ton of information contained in this document, and it is an invaluable resource for developers.
And as of this month, it's available in English! No more fussing with machine translation and struggling to parse the multitude of run-on sentences and mangled terms. Our translation is readable without the extra steps, and you can view it here.
The translation isn't perfect, about half of it was done with machine translation and a lot of tenacity. If you find a wrong translation or something confusing, please report it or submit a fix on the project's repository.
A ton of work went into this project. If you'd like to learn more about the project and how it came together, there is an article here with information! Please check it out!

I am sensing...a pattern (pun intended)
Is this the new gay dress code?
Not you too, Trin? (thanks for the heads up @respectthepetty!)
I mean, did the Thai tv series industry buy these shirts in bulk?
Hey!
And will a fourth colour variation appear next, I wonder?
Edited to add - not another colour variant...but a reappearance of the charcoal stripes
AND the parents are now getting in on the act:
Who will wear it next?
Edit: Look, I didn't think this one would pop up again...but it did. And on Top of all people. Not so Top Tier now are we?
Yes, Top, yes I do...
Oh look! It has made another reappearance a year after the last one. Poor Uncle Somkid, getting all the Only Friends hand-me-downs

95: Lo! An undetached collection of meaning-parts!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetatched rabbit-part!"
In this episode, your hosts Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch get enthusiastic about how we manage to understand each other when we're learning new words, inspired by the famous "Gavagai" thought experiment from the philosopher of language WVO Quine. We talk about how children have a whole object assumption when learning language, and how linguists go about learning languages that are new to them through either translating standardized cross-linguistic wordlists known as Swadesh lists or staying monolingual and acting out concepts. We also talk about when our baseline assumptions are challenged, such as in categorizing kangaroos and wallabies by their hopping rather than their shape, and when useful folk categories, like "trees" and "fish" don't line up with evolutionary taxonomies.

Announcements: We have new Lingthusiasm merch!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetached rabbit-part!" Inspired by the famous Gavagai thought experiment, these items feature a running rabbit and the caption "lo, an undetached rabbit-part!" in a woodblock engraving crossed with vaporwave style in magenta, indigo, teal, cream, and black/white on shirts, scarves, and more!
"More people have been to Russia than I have" is a sentence that at first seems fine, but then gets weirder and weirder the more you read it. Inspired by these Escher sentences, we've made self-referential shirts saying "More people have read the text on this shirt than I have" (also available on tote bags, mugs, and hats), so you can wear them in old-time typewriter font and see who does a double take.
Finally, we've made a design that simply says "Ask me about linguistics" in a style that looks like a classic "Hello, my name is..." sticker, and you can put it on stickers and buttons and shirts and assorted other portable items for when you want to skip the small talk and go right to a topic you're excited about.
Also, there are lots of other designs of Lingthusiasm merch, and we love to see your photos of it! Feel free to tag us @lingthusiasm on social media so we can see it out in the world.
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about the word "do"! We talk about the various functions of "do" as illustrated by lyrics from ABBA and other pop songs, what makes the word "do" so unique in English compared to other languages, and the drama of how "do" caught on and then almost got driven out again

why did i just see a noahpinion tweet with 30k likes try to claim the chinese social credit system was a thing. i thought we were done with this
All in favor of pointing and laughing at Noah (☝️🤣) but tbh not a fan of how "social credit isn't a thing at all" has become the standard talking point among anglo pro-china people bc. It is a thing. The reason these takes are ridiculous is bc they're acting like it's targeted towards individuals & some black mirror individual scoring system shit that controls the lives of individuals, when in reality it 1) does actually exist 2) is primarily targeted towards businesses (hence why "man on the street" interviews with people tend to show normal ppl in China don't really know about it) & 3) is actually cool and good
youtube
#social credit is one of those things i use as a benchmark for if u actually are educated on china or just a trend follower going on vibes#note: 2.5 of these are editorialized but have overall correct information#(the articles on chinalawtranslate are editorialized but they also have direct translations of legal documents)#seeking out information that contradicts a sources incentives is also a basic point of critical historiography#so 🤷♀️

As I predicted back in ch.1, after seven chapters someone has finally directly referred to Ichi as "Majo," prompting him to reply "that doesn't sound right, I'm a guy. How about...'Madan?' Call me Ichi the Madan!"
The way it's presented in Japanese, his mischievous little smile when he comes up with Madan makes it seem like he feels super clever, followed up by a huge toothy grin with a little blush while he proudly declares to the world that he's "Ichi the Madan"
In the English version, they did manage to retain that he's refuting being referred to as a woman by translating "Majo-sama" as "Lady Witch," a perfectly reasonable translation. However, while the line about Ichi being a guy remains, a new point of contention had to be invented for the dialogue to still make sense. So now, the problem with "Lady Witch" isn't just that it's feminine, it's also that it's too formal
As a feral child of the mountains, it does make sense for Ichi to reject fancy titles like Lady or Sir, and fittingly he had already asked Kumugi not to call him "Ichi-sama" earlier in the chapter, but it does still add a layer of nuance that wasn't present before while also removing a layer of nuance that was
The transition from "how about...'Madan?'" to "titles aren't my thing, but...I'm just a Witch" turns what was a moment of cleverness into a moment of humility. Worse, the pride of the following panel matches tonally with Ichi thinking he's being clever and wanting to show it off, but it's completely dissonant with him downplaying himself as someone special. If he's "just a Witch," it doesn't really make sense for him to introduce himself as "Ichi the Witch," because it makes him seem self-important despite just saying he isn't. If he's trying to avoid having a title, then "just Ichi" like he said to Kumugi would work, but no, he's declared himself "Ichi the Witch," giving himself a title when he just said he didn't want one
It's internally contradictory, and ultimately becomes a patchwork solution when inevitably another character tries to be disrespectful by calling him "Majo" without the "-sama" honorific, but Ichi is unfazed because he's only worried about correcting "Majo" to "Madan." Are they going to have that character call him "Sir Witch" and just hope it comes off as sarcastic enough that it carries an equivalent weight? That's probably what'll happen, but again, it alters the nuance of the scene
It's not a huge deal overall, I don't think it ruins the story or anything for one line to have an awkward translation here and there, but I do think it's unfair that not only are readers going to come away with different impressions of Ichi for the totally wrong reasons, but also that translator Adrienne Beck has to bend over backwards to make these things work just because some executive or marketing department person made a flippant decision with the title
It's not going to keep me from reading and enjoying the series, but it is a damn shame
#ichi the witch#madan no ichi#translation#this was going to be a part of this week's review but it felt too whiny about something unrelated to the narrative#also my journey with the translation was already being documented separately so i figured this should be too

Some more thoughts + notes on the datamine document!!
(Long!!)
[second part of this post ?]
thanks again to user @ ividyon for the document.
Judging by these lines, again, I think it's a cut story thread that P has to ask Venigni to repair him, thus revealing himself as a puppet to Venigni, but it also suggests that Venigni knew about Carlo
rough alt translation:
I heard from Mr. Geppetto. Because of the arm injury, [he] requested to repair your P-Organ. The truth is, I already knew you were a puppet. If you're a friend of Geppetto's, one couldn't help but hear about what happened... It was a sad thing but I[one must] had to focus on the hope of tomorrow.
It implies Venigni is saying he knew we were a puppet because as a friend of Geppetto, he would've known about the death of Carlo. In the released game, he seems to be an older colleague and doesn't mention it at all, and I wonder if he even knew Geppetto had a son
About what we think happened to Carlo, and Venigni using the phrase "the case"("Any friend of Mr. Geppetto's has no choice but to know about the case"): the word he uses here 사건, which can mean something like a situation, a case, or an incident. It's also the word used by korean law enforcement to refer to a criminal "case". In this case though, I think it's closer to Venigni just referring to "what happened", as in Carlo's death.
Yet another version of this:
Honestly, I knew you were a puppet, but I didn't expect you to lie. It's creepy that Mr. Geppetto lifted his great promise
On Geppetto actually talking about Carlo to P:
It's my impression that in the released game, Geppetto never expected P to find out about Carlo because that would probably tip him off to what he was planning (P would probably refuse to hand over the heart?)
Also, Geppetto saying that Carlo was "intelligent" - I wonder if Carlo being a smart kid had something to do with Sophia calling us "Clever one" when we wake up?
REALLY interesting exchange with Geppetto
the exchange:
【그나저나... 내 예상보다 빠르게 깨어났더구나. 누군가 도와준 사람이 있니?】 【누군가 도와준 사람이 있니?】 소피아가 나를 깨웠다 혼자 열차 안에서 깨어났다
eng:
【By the way.. You woke up faster than I expected. 】 【Was there anyone that helped you? 】 Sophia woke me up I woke up on the train by myself
(note: If you tell Geppetto that someone named Sophia woke you up) 소피아라… 그렇구나. 그녀에겐 나중에 감사해야겠구나. Sophia... I should thank her later.
That sounds rather ominous to me. (it also doesn't have an english correspondent from what I see?)
and then what I think is IF you answer that you woke up by yourself- (emphasis mine)
eng:
Because of you waking up you were able to stop the massacre. I'm proud [of you]. I'm grateful you told me. I was worried that you might have gone wrong. To me, you'll always be my true child, son. I made so many sacrifices to revive you... I'm sorry to ask such difficult requests again.
It's occurring to me now that I think (나에게만큼은 언제나 진실된 아이로 있어다오, 아들아) can either be read as "Always be true to me, son" OR "To me you'll always be my true son" [as in, he's assuring the new puppet "Carlo" that he's still his son !?]
Again, I wonder if this dialogue is conditional, though. As in, he says "Sophia? I should thank her later..." if we tell the truth about Sophia, And if P tells him he "woke up by myself" we get the latter dialogue (Geppetto immediately accepts him as his son).
#lies of p#lop spoilers#spoilers#liesofp#geppetto#datamine#thanks again to ividyon for the document#translation#plz inbox for correction#so... the dialogue from geppetto suggests/confirms that P could not wake up by himself? he was “wrong”?
