Rec: If you were ever a fan of American Gladiators than you need to check out this really cool documentary on
@netflix called Muscles & Mayhem, a decent deep dive on your favorite gladiators and insightful stories and it definitely gets kinda wild.

Highly highly recommend watching this documentry by Al Jazeera all about Palestinian weddings. I feel like we all need to remember Palestinian happiness and joy still exists, their beautiful culture and heritage still exists.

How gay men used to speak –
A short film in Polari
youtube
Here's the trailer of a short documentary on a fantastic subject so relevant to all of us ACD and victorian-era Holmes stories fans & writers.
A history of an in-group slang/language for gay men with its roots in theater, but also going all the way back to transient people, like the Romney and the Pikeys.
First person to incorporate any of these gems into their next story wins a prize!!
Go!

The KLF: Beyond The Band That Burnt £1,000,000 I New British Canon
If you’ve heard of the KLF, you probably know them as a band that burnt a million pounds. But that is only the conclusion to their story. The journey that led them to the Isle of Jura on that fateful August morning in 1994 is even more fascinating.
A journey that includes getting sued by ABBA, gaining a number one single in the guise of a talking car, pioneering at least one genre of dance music and becoming one of the most successful singles bands of the early 90s. They were two men compelled by the forces of chaos to spread as much confusion as possible and they transformed that into a pop career. This is New British Canon and this is the Story of The KLF.

it's hard to talk about stuff you like online, this is not a tumblr only problem but it is endemic here, because there's this idea you should ONLY engage with art you're outside the target audience for on an educational basis.
so i don't usually talk about music on here bc if i go 'hey this is one of my fav artists, she was in that smithsonian doc about black banjo players', that signifies, in most left leaning online spaces, that i am putting out my Good Person Points for other people to either one up or pick apart, and not the truth which is: i watch folk music documentaries in my spare time because i enjoy them, and then listen to the artists in the folk music documentaries
i have no real fix for this. people aren't gonna stop going 'if you don't listen to these highly specific artists you hate [insert group we are discoursing about today]' even if you listen to other, more obscure artists in the same discourse of the day group. mostly i just wish i could be enthusiastic about things without people assuming connotations or subtext i guess

Film Asks: 2, 5, 8, 16, 24? 💕💞
2) What was the first movie you ever remember watching on theaters?
The first movie that I went to was Finding Nemo (2003), and I apparently lost my mind in the first 10 minutes and had to leave because I was screaming my head off (I have no recollection of this). However, the first movie I vividly remember seeing in theatres was Cars (2006).
5) A favourite adapted movie
Matilda (1996). I loved the book as a kid as well as the movie. I haven't watched the more recent musical version.
8) An overrated movie
Toy Story 4 (2019), to me it was a heartless cash grab by Disney that lost all the charm from the previous three movies in that franchise.
16) A tearjerker
Loving Vincent (2017) is a visual masterpiece that nearly brought me to tears simply due to its visuals.
24) Favourite Comedy
The Simpsons Movie (2007). In high school, I was obsessed with The Simpsons for whatever reason. The movie uses a lot of comedic elements successfully. Also, Cocaine Bear (2023) is a great "gore comedy" that I thoroughly enjoyed.
