i've taken a couple days to try and elaborate my thoughts on the season finale ... still, my reaction hasn't changed.

i firmly believe the acting for this season was REALLY great (especially ncuti and millie's), but the rest of it keeps feeling rushed and not cured in enough detail. plus, as good it was to have a nemesis back from 1975, it feels silly (at the least) to me that suketh has been hiding in the tardis and travelling with the doctor for SO LONG ... they've assisted to so many events and could have taken action wayyyy before to annihilate earth & co. why would they wait for the doctor to meet ruby and find out who her biological mother is? idk the explanation we've been handed in the last episode doesn't fully satisfy me. besides, i would have loved to know more about ms floods but oh well i guess i'll have to wait :) the whole last ep was like an anticlimax, to me.. i wished it had taken another direction, plot wise.

i don't know about you guys, this season felt very fresh and exciting in respect to the returning and brand new cast. at the same time, it was poorly written for some episodes and i personally don't agree with many "artistic choices".

i had VERY HIGH expectations (and i still hold them for the next season) but some of them weren't met. what about you?

Well, well, well, look what we have here. If it isn’t 52 weeks’ worth of data drawn from the exemplary original posts you’ve been producing day in, day out, combined with the likes, reblogs, and search data—all of it weighed, ranked, and presented here for your viewing pleasure. In news that will come as a shock to no one at all, 2024 was the year of Artists on Tumblr. But quite right, too, as just a cursory scroll through the fanart, illustrations, digital pieces, paintings, textiles, and more will attest. It’s a goldmine. But this ain’t just any goldmine, this is your goldmine, and we’ve got abundant gratitude for the wonderful work you’ve shared this last year. 

Dungeon Meshi won hearts and minds with its cozy feel, its cookery, its cast of eclectic, likable characters, and a delightfully off-center vibe. Farcille made for the sapphic love story we didn’t know we needed—and the inspiration for endless, exquisite fanart. There was much appreciation for season one, and excitement abounds for season two. But there were endings as well as beginnings, sadly, as the much-loved Jujutsu Kaisen brought six years of sublime storytelling to a close with Chapter 271. Good faced Evil, a nephew faced an uncle, and some really liked it, and others really did not. Discourse ensued, as discourse is wont to do. 

Television! And lots of it! 2024 was the year in which animation ruled supreme with an embarrassment of riches to plunder. Gravity Falls and The Book of Bill became your fall fixations and simply refused to stop trending for seemingly an age (a Good Thing). Bill Cipher and Stanford Pines both made the Top 24 in their own right as you shipped them to high hell, with Billford coming top of Ships for 2024. Speaking of Hell, Hazbin Hotel was the new kid on the block. And, after a five-year wait, the new kid charmed—it was filthier, funnier, raunchier, and more heartfelt than you could have hoped for. 

When it comes to hope, the times continue to be challenging, and the news can threaten to overwhelm. 2024 was no different. But you all painted the dash every color of the rainbow, stood loud and proud, and supported your ever-growing community online and offline in the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights. While folks continue to voice their distress and concern for the ongoing crisis in Palestine, they also fight the good fight with activism and fundraising efforts across the dash. These may be dark days, but you all work tirelessly for the greater good as only you know how.

Looking after oneself is vital in these trying times, and you’ve all done just that in your own inimitable fashion. Cats still rule Tumblr as bears still poop in woods, and everyone has taken essential time to peruse the dashboard’s plethora of cat GIFs, cat art, boopin’ cats, cats of yore, and so on. You’re keeping things similarly wholesome with some more Tumblr mainstays: cottagecore, and its sister aesthetic, naturecore, imagine a simpler, greener, and quieter time. A time where the breeze billows softly through the long grass and gently turns the blades of the windmill; a time where we, too, might poop in woods.

The only thing more important than looking after oneself is treating oneself, and what better way to do that than gaming? Baldur’s Gate 3 made a most impressive leap from #21 last year to #7 in 2024, as the need for sexy monsters and beautiful beasties becomes ever more imperative with each passing year. Pokémon may have dropped a little from five to 11, but these games and shows still hold a dear place in your hearts—as demonstrated by your bountiful and beautiful fanart.

Star Trek captains ranked by how likely they would be to have sex with their ship from least to most likely:

Pike/Enterprise: Pike does not strike me as the type of person who would be interested in that sort of thing. With a ship, I mean.

Archer/Enterprise: The only way I can picture this happening is if the Enterprise was magically turned into an actual humanoid woman like the TARDIS in the Doctor Who episode The Doctor’s Wife. Otherwise, no. (I’m still on season 2 of Enterprise though so maybe there’s information in later seasons that would change my mind.)

Burnham/Discovery: Look, Burnham and Zora like each other, but not that way. Probably.

Picard/Enterprise: I don’t really like this concept because their relationship just feels so inherently platonic, but I must admit it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Sisko/Defiant: I think this is more of a chaste longing type of situation but who knows.

Freeman/Cerritos: The Cerritos is a handsome lady.

Janeway/Voyager: Janeway is undeniably in love with Voyager, I think, but the real question is whether she’d put aside her personal hang-ups about sexual relationships here. And you know what, for Voyager, I think she could.

Kirk/Enterprise: I mean, this is the obvious top choice. If there is a way to have sex with the Enterprise, Kirk will have found it.

Doctor Who 60th Anniversary ⇒ Season Ranking ⇒ [6/13] Season Eight

Welcome, everyone, to my TED Talk. Today, we're diving into my humble top 3 most striking declarations of love from Dean to Sam so far.

3. Croatoan. Dean wanted Sam to infect him with the Croatoan virus so they could die together. I bet that if the doctor hadn’t come back two seconds later to free them, Dean would’ve cut himself on purpose and infected himself so that Sam wouldn’t have to do it once he lost control. At that point, all that was missing was George Michael’s Careless Whisper in the background, and they might as well have ended the series right there.

2. The siren. In the show, the siren transforms into the person you desire most in the world. For Dean, that person isn’t a lover, a girlfriend, or a wife—it’s a version of Sam who loves him more than he believes the real Sam does, and who’s as devoted to him as he is to Sam. In fact, what Dean wants the most is to be loved by his baby brother. I can't believe this is actually a canon event.

1. Dean’s heaven. When he gets to heaven in season 5, he relives the memory of when he and Sam shot off fireworks for the 4th of July. This moment gives us a glimpse into his deepest feelings:

Dean has always felt this way about Sam.

His affection hasn’t changed over the years—from the time that memory took place to his arrival in heaven, despite all they’ve been through: demon blood, fights, trying to kill and save each other repeatedly. What he felt back then as a kid is exactly what he feels now as an adult, except now it comes with the bittersweet nostalgia of knowing it’ll never come back.

Dean’s idea of heaven doesn’t center on his own happiness—it’s about Sam’s. And it’s even better if he is the reason Sam is happy.

And if that’s not enough, Dean openly admits how painful it is to realize that he doesn’t even appear in Sam’s heaven. I think we can safely call this moment a not-as-subtle-as-dean-thinks declaration of love and devotion. Interestingly, in that episode, we see a string of Sam’s memories but only one of Dean’s—and Sam doesn’t even witness it. It really makes you wonder what other memories might make up Dean’s heaven…

One more thing: that scene reminds me of the one in Edward Scissorhands where Winona Ryder’s character dances in the snow. It’s fascinating to compare the two, because one scene should depict brotherly love while the other shows romantic love, yet to me, they seem almost identical. And honestly, I think Dean and Edward have a lot in common—but that’s a topic for another TED Talk.

So, to wrap things up: Dean is madly in love with his little brother. Thank you all for listening.

star trek tos cuntiness ranking

for context i am 4 episodes into season 2

Spock- should come as a surprise to no one. i knew it from the moment he raised his eyebrow. and from his eyeshadow. my number one cunt.

Uhura- who else can pull off bright green hoop earrings and a red longsleeved minidress? no one (except for spock). did you see her in the mirrorverse episode? motherload of cunt.

Bones- eyebrow raise once again. always on the bridge for no reason. also he’s a doctor. incredible amount of grumpiness in the most sassy old man way ever. call him dr. leonard mccunt.

Chekov- only seen him in 3 episodes but he came out swinging. backtalks everyone. including any omnipotent beings he comes across. chekov’s gun? no. chekov’s cunt.

Kirk- could be cuntier but it is understandable when you see who he’s up against. throws himself against any and all enemies despite having a stun gun. tits always out. ass fat. james t. cunt.

Chapel- could serve more, understandable that she does not. she is a woman with a job. crushing on a gay man when uhura is right there. however she gets points for being a space nurse and having a full face of makeup the whole time. i’d say an average amount of cunt.

Sulu- a difficult decision, but he gets points for his eyeshadow. it’s not as much his lack of cunt as much as how much cuntiness everyone around him exudes. goofy lil’ guy. like to fence shirtless down the hall. also an average amount of cunt. basically tied with chapel.

Scotty- i’m sorry scotty truthers i love him dearly. unfortunately he is more wet cat man than cunt serving king. in love with his ship. getaway driver for the landing party. slightly less than average amount of cunt.

The thing about Ncuti Gatwa era Who's ratings being "bad" is that they aren't bad, it's just that they're not very different from Jodie's average ratings. And five-six million a episode is actually pretty decent in a country with a population as small as the UK's (unless it's seen as drastically bad to be #12 that week, idk how UK TV ratings are perceived). It's not that they've fallen drastically, they've just failed to grow.

Which, no matter how much they pushed that this was "series 1!" and a fresh new start (to the point of declaring it an entirely new series, Doctor Who [2023 -]), was going to happen. Because there isn't a large contingent of people out there just waiting to give Doctor Who a shot. There was in 2005, when a whole generation had never seen it, and many people had vague fond memories of it but hadn't thought of it in years, and when there were many countries where it had never been anything more than a niche curiosity or straight-up hadn't ever come out, but the un-Who-evangelized ranks are p. small in 2024. No one saw it as series 1 of a new reboot, everyone processed it as what it was, series 14 of a show that's been on for twenty years

(Also, holy shit, New Who is twenty years old this year. For reference Classic Who ran twenty-six years)

They wanted to attract old viewers back, and they did come back for the Tennant specials, but I think they were banking on casual viewers being just as excited for RTD's return and. Casual viewers don't know who the writer is or really care, though, so it didn't have the same cachet. They probably expected it to grow a bit instead of just not falling off but the whole "suddenly it's putting up 2005 numbers" scenario wasn't going to happen. Anyway it's that thing I said and not whatever internet shouty men are saying

I have no idea what Disney+ expected. For Doctor Who to be the new Star Wars? Unclear. Thanks for making Doctor Who ultra high budget for two seasons I guess

i think fandom tends to overestimate chase's imprinting on house a bit -- not to say it didn't happen, because it absolutely did, but it wasn't an immediate thing. it wasn't even a season one thing. chase in s1 really doesn't care much about house - he likes him, he thinks house is funny, he dresses like him, but his loyalty is still ultimately (always) to himself: he sells out house to vogler. s1 chase knows he's lowest ranked in the office, knows he's the least favorite. this doesn't bother him much: not to say it doesn't bother him at all, but we don't see chase try to rectify it or change it. cameron is the office asskisser, not him: where she agrees with everything house says and refuses to doubt him or believe he's an addict (even going so far as to declare her loyalty as a reason house shouldn't fire her in heavy); chase has no problem disagreeing with house or snarking about him, falling in the middle of the extremes of cameron's blind loyalty and foreman's cynicism.

chase likes house. that's not in question: he says so himself in sports medicine. but not more than himself. not more than his career.

you know when this starts to change? i can tell you, thanks to stacy. kids. at the end of s1.

chase sells house out to vogler. and he gets away with it. sure, house gives him shit, but chase isn't fired, isn't unduly punished. house even says to wilson and cameron that he understands (and is in a way fine with) chase doing so: he wanted the team to protect their jobs, to want to work for him, and chase fucking protected his job. (we see this in s5 with taub, and in s8, even, with 13: house doesn't want his employees distracted or half-hearted.) but consider it from chase's perspective. he did a Bad Thing. his reputation takes a hit, foreman holds it against him for a long time, and he grew up with daddy issues and neglect and never being good enough, doing everything he was told and being ignored and forgotten and punished. chase decided he'd rather house hate him than not work for house (insane!), but house doesn't hate him. he isn't punished. he is allowed to have fucked up and move on.

you know what else happens right around now? according to stacy: the mistake. right as chase is getting bullied for vogler, his dad dies, and he kills a patient, and you know what happens? nothing. house doesn't punish him. house covers for him. when chase fucked up the angio house considered firing him; chase does something infinitely worse and house doesn't do anything. later, in the mistake proper, house even helps him. offers to support him, go with his lie if chase wants. again: when has chase had that. when has he ever had the ability to make mistakes and fuck up and not get punished for it. he never wanted to be a doctor: his father wanted him to. he never wanted to raise his sister and nurse his mother: his father forced him to. house lets chase fuck up and doesn't hold it against him. he is probably the first person chase has ever known who has done that.

and so in s2 chase gets his lapdog reputation. and in s3 he doesn't even consider ratting to tritter. and in s8 he'd rather quit medicine than work for anyone else, anywhere else. chase didn't start being that loyal. but once house won it, boy did it pay dividends.

Casually thinking about how Pantalone’s hobbies include toying with the nobles in the Tsaritsa’s court for funsies. The ambitious social climbing families of the court’s lesser houses are always so eager to see their children or themselves rise into Zapolyarny’s more elite circles. Who better to play the role of the benevolent benefactor to the underprivileged during Snezhnaya’s social season than the Regrator himself? He certainly has the money and as far as connections go, there is literally no one he can’t find or buy should he need too. It is the perfect arrangement for those eager to climb or it would be, if they bothered to read the fine print.

Debts and collateral are funny things. Pantalone has no use for endless estates or family jewels. He always accepts Mora, but what use does he have for it when he can manipulate it like vision bearers can the elements? He wishes for something more malleable; something he can shape, something he can mold, something he can control. Those same poor souls who are seeking a better station in life often find themselves under the Regrator’s thumb, shackled to him by a debt they cannot pay. 

He moves them around as he needs, placing them where he feels they will be best suited. From the seediest brothels to the most exclusive salons; Pantalone has eyes and ears throughout the capital, making sure his enemies are always right where he needs them to be. Poised and ready for the fall he has planned for them. 

Such is the case with many, such is the case with you. 

Normally, Pantalone rarely took stock of what his collateral looked like. He didn’t put faces to names or much valuation on individual personalities. His only real interest was risk vs reward. Who had the highest capability to give him the best return on his investment and who would be better left to the frigid conditions of Snezhnaya’s winters should they not be able to deliver what was owed.  That wasn’t to say Pantalone didn’t have an eye for the exceptional though.  While he rarely looked past his papers and figures, he did on occasion have cause to look. You had regrettably given him that cause.

To others like you, your position was an enviable one. You weren’t subjected to the routine that was following targets or hunting up information or even soiling your hands with the blood of those Pantalone had seen fit to end. Instead, you are kept in lavish comfort. Subject to being locked in chains made of diamonds and platinum. Forced to endure his company until like all the rest, your usefulness, much like your tears would run dry. Then and only then would he consider setting you free. He would weigh your debt against all he had taken. Hemming and hawing over his balance sheets, running his calculations until he reached a satisfactory conclusion. 

You could only pray that whatever decision he came to, whether it be an advantageous marriage to one of his higher ranking officers or death, that it was quick. That it was painless, and that it didn’t involve the Doctor.
