Dr. Raven Quinn-Casey
-
The sole doctor of Crow’s Rest, Dr. Quinn-Casey has an incredibly extensive medical knowledge and runs an apothecary for the town. Most who visit her are pleased with her care, leaving better than when they arrived. She is said to be compassionate and patient, attending to each of her patients with a careful tenderness that one might see in a mother.
Although, for some, they believe her to be untrustworthy. After all, to be married to - and to have a child with - the Village Lord makes her adverse to their interests, doesn’t she?
Despite her husband’s behavior, she has been known to help everyone - from the persecuted, the damned, and the punished, her vow to health and healing remains unwavering.
Even if those punished are at the hands of her husband.

"He uses violent emotions: fear, hatred, greed." "How?" "Well, the emotions of a group of ordinary human beings generate a tremendous charge of psychokinetic energy. This the Master channels for his own purpose." "But that is magic! That's precisely what black magic is!" "No, miss Hawthorne, I'm afraid not."
This part has always annoyed me, because miss Hawthorne is right. Using the psychic power of emotions to affect the word around you is magic. And of course, the Doctor's going to be incredibly dismissive because they object to the word "magic". Even though miss Hawthorne has just pretty clearly defined it, and it is in fact what's happening.
The Doctor even goes on to say that the Sabbat and the rituals are essential for channelling the psychic energy into effects in the physical world. And there is generally a word for using a ritual to channel psychic energy into a physical effect, but the Doctor objects to that word. And part of me grudgingly admits the BBC probably doesn't want to say "black magic is real", especially in the 1970s, but for fuck's sake the show is about a time-travelling alien.
Anyway, the Doctor is wrong sometimes. Happy Beltane, everybody.

i mean isn't it...rare to find people who can see transformations?? most people can't perceive them, besides the nuns and priests of the temple...and besides, why do you even want to study us anyways?? what's in it for you? what, you wanna turn us into some sick attraction, just like every other creep in this town?
Rare doesn’t quite mean “impossible”, though I can’t really see anything that isn’t shown to me willingly (even then, finding someone who has had more “divine” developments was near-impossible for me– seeing people with animal ears is a bit more obvious, yes?)...
My consistent clientele isn’t very vast, and sadly one angelic patient doesn’t mean I can see them or sniff them out! Nor do I have a secret nun/priest telling me who is/isn’t divine.
All the more reason to ask people to come to me, isn’t it?
I have no interest in turning your kind into some “sick attraction”— kidnapping is beneath me, my research is for myself first and foremost! I’d love to understand how these “transformations” come to form, and how your body adapts to such major chances (like growing ears, a tail, or wings)– I’m simply someone with a deep fascination!
#oc | dr. hawthorne#ic | asks#Geez... It really says a lot about this town if your first thought is that I'm going to turn you into an “attraction...”#Though I know “doctors” here aren't really trustworthy. I'm sure there's someone sick enough for that...
