When Their Reader S/O Gets Hurt

Deathslinger, Doctor, Knight

Deathslinger

Caleb loves you dearly.

And he'll tell you that everyday.

You're his greatest treasure.

And he wants you to know that you can rely on him.

But he also wants to make sure you aren't overly reliant on him.

Don't get him wrong! He'll always be there for you.

But he doesn't want you to become too dependent.

"What if somethin' were ta happen and I wasn't around darlin'?"

He wants to know that you're able to fend for yourself if need be.

So, if you fall and get hurt don't expect them to run up to you and coddle you.

Unless you're seriously injured, Caleb expects self-dependency from you.

You're an adult, you know how to take care of yourself.

He can't see himself with someone who's overly needy or overdramatic.

The table is completely turn if somebody is hurting you though.

If it's someone he thinks you can handle by yourself, he'll stand back but be on guard.

Heck, he'll be super proud if you knock that person out.

"He's all bark and no bite. Ya show em' darlin'"

Full on cheering you on from the sidelines.

If it's someone he knows for a fact you can't handle, he'll step in.

Caleb's a smart man, he knows you can't take on someone like Micheal or Kazan on your own.

He has his spear gun pointed in their face the moment they lay a hand on you.

"Ya think about this. Ya lay a hand on them and I'll shoot this here gun so far down your throat you won't know what hit ya."

"Now get."

He can be very intimidating when he wants to be.

And he wants to be intimidating for you. Because he would never want anything to happen to you.

Doctor

Herman can be detached from situations at times.

Very rarely is he out with you.

He spends the majority of his time in his lab or in trials.

He never considered the possibility of someone hurting you.

One, because he's too busy with his latest experiment or torture.

Two, because he sees you as such a nice and wholesome person that hurting you is out of the question.

Anyone who's willing to love him is either insane or an angel.

And he knows you're not insane. He's tested it.

So when you came to his lab all beat up, he was beyond shocked.

Like, at a loss for words shocked.

He's not crying, but it almost looks like he might.

He feels incredibly guilty and stupid for not being there for you.

And for thinking the beasts of the realm would be able to appreciate someone like you.

This will send him into an unbelievable spiral of rage.

Sparks will literally be radiating off of him because he is so angry.

He'll patch you up the best he can, then leave without another word.

Herman will be back in about an hour or so with said person who hurt you.

Well, at least with their head and maybe several other limbs.

He won't tell you what he did. Just assuming isn't pleasant.

He will give you the head as a get well soon gift, because he thinks that makes everything better.

He might be a genius but he has the emotional intelligence of a goldfish.

But you can't deny the gesture (albeit gruesome) is sweet.

And he'd only do it for you.

Knight

He's the complete opposite of the others.

He will be doting on you like royalty.

Because, to him, you are.

You're Tarhos' sweet prince/princess.

And you will be treated as such.

He frequently calls you my lord/lady.

It doesn't matter if you're actually royalty or not. He's intent on making you feel as if you were.

Did you fall and get hurt?

"Foolish prince/princess."

He laughing.

But he is concerned.

"Shall I carry you?"

Even if you say no, he's going to pick you up.

"What is a knight if he cannot protect his lord/lady?"

"Allow me."

It's almost smothering.

If you want to take care of things yourself, you'll really have to prime him for that.

He isn't used to not serving someone.

Someone laid a hand on you?

How dare they!

"They shall pay for their insolence."

He may seem cold and callous at times.

But he's extremely protective over what is his.

And you're his.

And no one dares mess with what is his.

"I shall avenge you. I shall not allow those heathens to dishonor you and your name."

If you tell him it's not worth it he'll dismiss your claims.

"Nonsense. Anyone who is foolish enough to lay a hand on you must be punished severely."

If you keep telling him no he'll stay.

But you best believe his men are on that person when your back is turned.

And that person will never mess with you again.

Tarhos will see to it.

we are about an hour into rare disease day in my timezone! (it's always the last day of february, whether that's the 28th or the 29th.) the true prevalence of mast cell disorders is unknown, as they are often misdiagnosed or ignored. and mast cell activation syndrome, the most prevalent kind of mast cell disorder, only had diagnostic criteria laid out for the first time in 2010. so whether or not it's truly rare is really up in the air!

(personally I suspect it is just aggressively underdiagnosed but I'm not a research scientist or diagnostician right now. and even if it is rare, it's gonna be a lot less so than it was 5 years ago as certain respiratory infections are known to trigger it into visibility. that's what happened to me when I got mono at the end of 2015, further compounded when I got covid in 2022.)

all chronically ill people face a lot of hurdles when it comes to seeking diagnosis, accommodation, and treatment (all of which can be severely complicated by any intersecting marginalities), but rare diseases present a special challenge.

for example, I have an immune disorder. my immune system does not like being alive, my mast cells are way too jumpy and throw a tantrum over every little thing. you'd think an immunologist would be the one to treat me, right?

I've had 6 immunology referrals rejected in the past 9 months alone. multiple major immunology clinics in my major city tied to a major research university outright refuse to see patients with "mcas" written anywhere in their chart.

after 8 years of being debilitatingly ill, and suspecting it was immune mediated for 6, and getting it confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt by the bone marrow biopsy last month, I will have my second ever appointment with an immunologist. another 2 1/2 months from now. the first immunologist lied to me about the reliability of the one available blood test, when I first came up with the hypothesis by myself 6 years ago, and forced me to abandon my (correct!!! now proven!!!) hypothesis for 3 entire years while we wandered around lost and got nowhere other than even more thorough process of elimination.

okay, well if my immune system is attacking me, maybe it's technically autoimmune? that's the rheumatologists instead of the immunologists, what do they have to say? dick all my dude, I don't have rheumatoid arthritis so they just shrug at me and go "idk, fibro? I don't know why you're here" and send me home with nothing. (I literally had a rheumatologist say to me, verbatim, "I don't know why you're here." buddy it's your job to read the chart and decide if I get seen or not, you tell me. at least he had a snazzy outfit.)

being chronically ill can be a terrible struggle no matter what, but a disease that is perceived as rare, accurate or not, adds a whole new layer of bullshit. (and of course there are much much rarer diseases out there, with even more hoops and dead ends and struggles and all-new layers of bullshit that even I don't have to deal with!)

anyway I'm having a shit time and using this awareness day as an excuse to productively bitch about it 👍

Erm... Well, Shadow still isn't related to me by blood when he's got that weird alien DNA and blood pulsing through him instead and we definitely don't see each other as family. I certainly wouldn't want to call him my "uncle" anyway. That sounds ridiculous...

The only thing Shadow being my grandfather's creation means to me is that it's my right to inherit him but the ingrate won't appreciate my efforts to bring him into this world and understand that he belongs with me.

Perhaps if he saw me as family he'd actually be willing to join and stay with me though... Ugh, if only. But I'm not calling him "uncle" under any circumstance, feh.

I mean, yeah he does give house shit a lot of the time, but thats why we call it toxic old man yaoi (/hj), because they're simultaneously awful to each other and the best match for each other

On a more serious note, people tend to ignore it probably because it makes it easier to justify calling house the worse one in their relationship. Even if wilson did nearly get him killed trying to save amber and then left for a long time. Removed from the context of the show, wilson is arguably not as normal as people expect, but thats because in comparison to everyone else, he copes better (he doesnt, we love repression)

There is also a lot to be said on how people in the show treat house because of his addiction, and not in a positive way. They constantly seem to act like it's a moral failing and treat the reason behind his addiction as manageable without it; wilson makes a snarky comment comparing the way stacey's new partner copes with his disability and house's coping mechanisms to imply that house shouldn't have taken painkillers, and for a lot of the show, they act as if all of his pain is psychosomatic (when its not, he has damaged nerves). Despite supplying the meds for house, wilson still makes comments about being an "enabler" when we clearly see that house doesnt have another choice; ibuprofen doesn't work.

Also i have very strong opinions on the fact that cuddy says "i cant believe i could forget that you were an addict" (paraphrased) when she breaks up with him because he took one singular vicodin because he was scared she was gonna die. As if its a moral failing, and as if him being clean for a year didn't happen. I'd just like to add, her breaking up with him over relapsing once (and showing remorse + promising her he "can do better") caused him to fully succumb to the addiction once more, and go back on vicodin. Great job, cuddy, you did real good work out there /sar.

But i digress. I do feel pretty strongly about wilson being a dick to house, and pretty much everyone else being a dick to him, but acting like they're not in the wrong because he's rude sometimes. (E.g tritter kicking his fucking cane and then getting mad at him for getting mad [also that whole case wasn't really legal but yk]) Also the way that wilson repeatedly leaves house (the amber situation, after almost killing him), and didn't visit him once when he was in mayfield or prison (i kinda get prison but c'mon, mayfield?? motherfucker you drove him there the least you can do is stop by) feels very shitty, especially when you add the fact that he kicked house out despite insisting on him moving in after he got back from the mental hospital to try prevent relapses.

Overall, yeah, i dont really get why nobody ever talks about how shitty wilson can be towards house. Sorry for getting off topic lol, i feel strongly about this kinda stuff in the show and the way people often ignore it in favour of claiming that house is a piece of shit when the show very explicitly shows us the reasons he's not actually
