Winter's almost over so Theodore thought it'd be fun to make a snowman with Charles before all the snow melts!

Olaf is just a funny character that they included in Frozen for the children to enjoy. He is there to be the comic relief for it. But I also love what he represents for both Anna and Elsa. They made him in a time when Elsa’s powers were not viewed as dangerous or threatening or scary. When they could share and revel in Elsa’s powers and abilities together without fearing them but using them to satiate their curiosity. So Olaf represents childhood wonder and innocence and fun. He represents the part of them that will always be there buried beneath the layers upon layers of snow. Which is beautiful because theoretically it means that the bond they had as children will always be there too. That they never truly lost it. It was just something they could only find again if they chose to brave the cold that was distancing them as the lonely days went by.

Olaf is Anna and Elsa’s inner child made manifest. Something that they’ve all but forgotten about. Something most adults have until they also are forced to face whatever it is that is bothering them and why. However, he is a snowman because the cold or snow never bothered Elsa - not unless someone she loves was with her in it. Not unless it was Anna with her in it. Notice how when they’re playing as children Olaf just disappears beneath the snow the moment Elsa’s magic hits Anna and fear takes over Elsa’s mind to the point where the ballroom freezes over in pure ice. He is still there. He just isn’t a snowman anymore because there’s no time for fun and play anymore. Now he is part of what makes things dangerous and scary because Elsa is having a panic attack over Anna as something horrible has happened to her and she knows she’s responsible for it. He only shows up again when Elsa has left the castle and is using and embracing her powers now that there’s no need to hide them anymore. She’s alone. She can’t hurt anyone with them when she’s alone. She can have fun and play again. She can return to a childhood she was ripped away from because of a horrible accident that she never meant to cause but unfortunately did because she didn’t understand her magical powers. Elsa subconsciously remakes Olaf because she’s not repressing her emotions and desires anymore. So in a sense Olaf also represents acceptance and love. So Anna is the one that meets and interacts with Olaf instead of Elsa because Anna is who Olaf is made for as he was originally presented as a gift from Elsa.

Olaf represents the things children should have, and if they look within will always have, even when they’re not children anymore or have prematurely left their childhood behind. Everything we bury beneath us when we grow up and have to face a world that’s hard and cold and brutal and scary. Our inner child is always there waiting for us to restore that resource of fun, play, innocence and wonder that we believe we lost when life made us forget to live. You see, when we’re a child we don’t understand much about life because we haven’t experienced enough of it to understand. But we are able to be wholly ourselves because of that very reason. It’s because we don’t understand life why we are able to live so innocently and so playfully. It’s not until we’re told to “grow up” that we ever think we’re doing it wrong or that we suddenly have to be something different or more than what we already are. The child is pushed aside to make way for the adult. Eventually it gets pushed aside so much that it is forgotten completely. And so we never feel the way we did as a child again until the moment when we don’t have to be an adult. When we run away from responsibility and restriction and forced identity. Like Elsa. We find a place where we can breathe again. In so doing - be like a child again. Be creative, imaginative, passionate. Rebuild what makes us happy. What fulfills us and causes us to fly and soar. Makes us smile and laugh and have fun and play again. Cater to the part of us we’ve just neglected. Love the part of us that we’ve just shut out on command. And hopefully allow ourselves to open up to others again so that they can feel accepted and loved by us again. In this way Olaf is an important character in Frozen but you don’t understand why. You just feel it. The same way you don’t understand life as a child. You just live. Because living isn’t about understanding anything. It’s about accepting and loving anyway. Ourselves, each other and the environment we inhabit. At the end of the day they all inform and intertwine with who we are and what we become as people. Maybe we can live a life apart from what holds us back. But are we prepared to lose that of which we care about and that we’re only ever trying to protect? That’s one hell of a sacrifice for freedom.

Frozen, the story itself as well as the main characters in it, provides strong representation and development of themes and characteristics to cultivate and cherish within us all. That of love, acceptance, teamwork and connection. We forgot how important these things are in real life because we’re too busy being too “grown up” for it. Forcing ourselves to be adults. Anna and Elsa forget about Olaf because he is buried beneath the years of estrangement between them. He shows up again because what caused that colossal rift is finally being acknowledged and addressed. As fear is being deflected, acceptance and love is honoured. So he shows up to make them face their storm and help them to realize that they’re not lost in its turbulence. And he remains because he is the HEART of FROZEN.

Do you Wanna Build a Snowman?

"Lixie come on! You're going to catch a cold" you said as you rounded the corner in your new home.

"It'll all melt away! Hurry" Felix sounded like a little child worried about his double chocolate cookie crunch extreme scoop of ice cream.

Who could blame him though? Felix couldn't remember the last time he had seen snow. You mentioned how badly the streets would thick over with ice and be packed with white as far as the eye could see. To Felix, this could never be a bad thing. How could it be?

You ran through a mental checklist, ensuring you were both ready for the cold about to hit you. Sure, you were used to it by now but somedays the winter bites back. Felix on the other hand was ready to run out blind to his death, the Aussie would never survive without you.

Thick socks? Check.

Warm boots? Check.

Pants with leggings underneath? Double-check

Long sleeves? Check

Coats? Check and a matching check as Felix insisted you two had to have a matching set.

Gloves? Check much to Felix's complaining 

And finally, a hat to keep your head warm? Check!

When you opened the front door, Felix dashed out with excitement. You couldn’t help but laugh a bit at the pure joy on his face. He found the thickest pile of snow in the middle of your yard, where your garden used to be, and fell to his knees. You should have guessed the gloves would have been long forgotten by now as he feels the snow melt on his bare skin. There was no way to sneak up beside him as the unmistaken crunch of packed snow sounded from under your feet. You crouched next to him and took in all his beauty. It was his first life, wasn’t it?

“Lixie baby?” You asked softly, not wanting to disturb his fun. All you got back was a simple hum to acknowledge he was listening. “Do you want to build a snowman?” You thought he was about to die from how quickly he lit up.

“Yes! We could make a cute snow couple!” His mind went running with ideas.

“Pixie, have you ever built a snowman?”

“No but how hard could it be? Animal crossing taught me everything I need to know.”

Oh how wrong he was. Felix quickly realized he had put too much confidence in his ability to build a snow person. It wasn’t meant to be a competition but he decided himself to make it one. Then he looked over at yours, almost finished while he was barely started. 

Yours was perfectly round and white.

His was lumpy and had random mud stains all over.

Yours was perfectly proportional.

His head always ended up being bigger than the middle.

Yours had arms specifically grown by Mother Nature herself.

His looked as if a dog dragged them in.

Even the face on your snowman looked perfect! Brown buttons you stole out of the craft drawer, a little carrot nose from the fridge, little pebbles curved up into the biggest smile. You even broke off tiny flakes of bark to make the freckles on your snowman! 

Wait…freckles…on a snowman? Brown buttons, a big smile, a blue scarf, a matching hat, Felix’s missing gloves, and freckles.

“Y/n!” He didn’t know what to say so he decided to scream your name to get your attention. However, that backfired miserably as you fell straight on your butt onto the cold ground.

“Felix!” You yelled back. He ran as fast as he could to save you.

“I’m sorry…I just..your snowman…he is…” 

“He is you!” Felix swore the smile you shared could have cleared the skies. “Do you like him?”

“I LOVE HIM!!!” He got up close and personal to inspect every little detail. “How?”

“I’ve had some practice” He fell for your giggle every time.

“Mine looks so…sad” Just then the oversized head rolled off and smashed into pieces.

“Maybe I can help you? I bet we could make him a real find!” Felix liked this idea much more than the competition he was participating in.

“Gotta make Snowlix the perfect man!” Felix stated as if it was an indisputable fact.

“So snowbin, got it”

in dp3, wade says disney prohibited them from doing cocaine on screen. "do you wanna build a snowman" is a euphemism for cocaine but the song itself is about wanting a family member to play with.

so when wade says disney prohibited them from doing cocaine on screen....what it also meant was that disney prohibited family from "playing together".

which is why there's no explicit on screen sex in dp&w even though there was in the first movie.

the theme of frozen, of course, is that people who are different shouldn't be treated differently, ashamed, or have to hide. kind of ironic that disney would make frozen but then ban the gays from equally building a snowman.

wade wants to build a snowman all movie long. but he can't. it can't be on screen. so it happened off screen.

did you notice during the honda scene that there were obvious SHHNNGGG knife noises/stabbing noises through the whole thing....except for the last few seconds of the "COEXIST" shot?

what do you think they were doing off screen while they weren't fighting but the car was still rockin? "you're the one that i want", after all, just like anna wants elsa to come out with her.

and after all that, we find them laid out and framed like they're at the altar, complete with wade wrapped head to toe in a veil of seatbelts.

sex is crack and we all know how much crack Wade uses.

Okay but can we talk about Katniss and snow having brilliantly opposing symbolisms?!?

Throughout the series, Katniss and her rebellion are not so subtly symbolised by fire. The begins as the girl on fire, riding into the capitol on a literal chariot of flames and proceeds to have many fire themed struggles. The second book is called catching fire, in the third she says "if we burn you burn with us"

I don't have to prove this to you, Kantiss is fire

And equally I don't have to prove that snow is snow. Cos crazily enough, Snow is snow. It's pure, it's blinding, it's cold and calm and can appear wonderful, but is truly ruthless and cruel.

And what do we know about snow and fire?

Well, fire melts snow, but in doing so, fire is destroyed. The act of melting the snow puts out and weakens the fire, slowly shrivelling it until nothing is left.

That is, of course, unless it is fed and kindled and protected.

The act of toppling snows empire nearly destroys Katniss, many times over, but it is through Peeta's kindness that she is reborn. Rebuilt. Reignighted.

And the best part about these opposing symbolic representations, is that snow has every capacity to destroy fire. If snow can smother fire, suppress and suffocate its flickering form, there is nothing fire can do but wilt. The snow will barely even feel it.

The only hope fire has, is to grow to such a blaze and so fast, that there is no hope of snow to hold it back.

And so she does

And it is glorious

thank you to each and every one of you for making this year special :) i know this account has died down quite a lot over the past few months but i honestly treasure every moment it's brought me

i've met so many amazing people, some of the best friends i've ever had and the love of my life, i've grown as a person and become more comfortable in my art and my writing, and i've been able to connect with myself better

this is not me saying goodbye by any means i'm just reflecting and so grateful for the impact tumblr has had on my 2023

reading and writing fanfiction, making fanart, engaging in the tumblr marauders fandom, and branching out improved my year and helped me through some really tough times so thank you :)

Jesus makes winter a little less red.

JOKE-OGRAPHY: In this verse, Jesus brings up an old idea of justice: "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."  According to this idea, a man who knocks out another man's tooth should have his own tooth knocked out.  However, in the Bible, Jesus says instead that His followers should be ready to suffer evils without vengeance.  In this cartoon, Jesus instead says that this old law is a bad way to make snowmen.  The law was not explaining how to make snowmen, but if we apply the old law to making snowmen, "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" becomes an ingredients list demanding human eyes and teeth to fill out a snowman's features.  This would be undesirable for a number of reasons, such as the staining of perfectly white snow with uncomely viscera.
