#do you listen to music when you write?

Happy Sunday! Fanfic question time again! This is more general but curious if you're a plotter or a seat of the pants (or some combo) kind of writer? If you do plot, do you wait until you have the beginning, middle and end mapped out or do you start before you know your end point and hope to find it along the way?
Also, do you listen to music while you write?
Hey, lovely, Happy Sunday to you too! đ
Ooh I love these types questions, thank you!!
1. What kind of writer am I? âđ˝
I like the terms "Plotter" vs. "Seat of the pants" kind of writer. In the past I've called them "Architects" vs. "Adventurers."
In most respects, I consider myself a Plotter/Architect. My brain craves structure to an almost ill degree when writing. đ The way I beat writer's block while working on a project is by having a roadmap of what's going to happen next, and that's thanks to my outline.
It'll include plot points, scene changes, and even dialogue and parts of scene that occur to me as I'm plotting. (I don't want to forget them!) This doesn't mean that plot points won't change, or get switched around, or get chucked entirely. But if I have the blueprints of the house, I can change a window here and there, so to speak.
So for longer stories like "Never Say Goodbye," "Smoke Eater," and "Break Me Down," I had a very extensive outline that I had to sketch out entirely before I started writing. I also have outlines for longer one-shots, especially ones with multiple parts, like in the Midnight Espresso-verse.
In fact, the only stories I freeform are the shorter requests/imagines that are sent in to me.
2. Do I listen to music when I'm writing? đľ
Girl, HELL YES. đś Music is a big part of my life in general, but I need to listen to music when I write. Depending on the story, character, setting, fandom, etc., I'll listen to different kinds of music to get into the vibe of that story.
On the story/chapter post, I often include what particular song inspired me because I felt the lyrics, genre, and/or vibe encapsulated the story I was trying to create. After all, most good songs are stories themselves.
For Break Me Down, for example, I think I've shared with you that I chose "All My Living Time" by Radio Company as the series song inspo. It influenced many of the story's chapter titles. But I also listened to "If I Didn't Care," and a lot of Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, and others in that genre to get the vibe of Ben in my head.
As another example, when I write for Jason Teague or Sam Winchester, I listen to a lot of 90s - early 2000s alt rock and grunge â like Lifehouse, Matchbox 20, Pearl Jam, Five for Fighting, Smashing Pumpkins, Avril Lavigne, etc.
Whereas for Dean Winchester...
Of course it's a lot of classic rock: Journey, Led Zeppelin, Queensryche, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, etc. But depending on the story, I'll listen to other stuff too. In fact, I often create specific playlists for different stories and series.
BTW: If you ever want a playlist for a story I've written, let me know! I think that would be a really fun project to put together.
Thank you so much for asking! And sorry, I got a bit long-winded again. đ
Can I toss these questions back at you @luci-in-trenchcoats...
Are you a plotter/architect or an adventurer/freeformer? And if you listen to music when you write, what does that look like for you? I love hearing about other writers' processes. đđ

My dear mutuals, I just realized something.
So, there's been talk recently about breaking Papita out of Mandos and I suppose more of us may need help at some point... but we need one fundamental thing if we are to be able to save one another from some terrible prison (or, idk, recognize each other in a supermarket...):
we need to have a song in common
Like, seriously, the default scheme for breaking someone out from somewhere is: character A start singing, character joins them, character A finds character B and gets them out. Except...
I'm not sure there's any song I could sing together with any of you.
We need to make a list of songs that we all know well enough. Seriously.
#i'm sober#it was just cocoa#and listening to the soundtrack from RoP 2 which is of course great#soundtrack I mean#the series i haven't seen#random#silm shitpost#no I'm not going to start the list you start ;)#yes I am obsessed with this trope why do you ask#but seriously how cool is that#imagine learning a really kinda below your level song just because it's the best your friends could come up with it andâ#seriously I am sober#I am very normal about this#rambling in tags#one day I will conquer my insecurities and write a coherent post abbout how normal I am about this trope and what scene I connect with it#one day#but this is not the day#I should probably be forbidden from drinking too much dark cocoa when listening to music

jughead almost immediately removing himself from the musical aka the narrative the moment that someone else (kevin & clay) starts writing their own version of it and in turn, his removal from controlling the narrative ends up allowing the characters to take back control of their own narrative because when jughead writes and rewrites the story, it ends up trapping the characters deeper inside the narrative and the cycles they are desperate to escape until they are repeating the same behaviours over and over again but when kevin & clay write and rewrite the story, it ends up giving the characters back their agency because they're trying to help them which then allows them to break free from the narrative and walk away.
#riverdale#riverdale spoilers#rvd text#rvd meta#rvd narrative#jughead jones#kevin keller#clay walker#like i love jughead this isn't anti-jug or anything just to be clear but the show has imo perfectly established how traumatised jughead#really is and that he never actually deals with any of it and then this season you go from his comic episode whereby it demonstrates so#clearly that despite good intentions his anger heavily influences his writing and storytelling and then the next episode he acknowledges#that his father abandoned him and writes about it. we don't know what he wrote exactly but he wrote something and it slowly starts to#change him for the better#and the story really does start to slowly change from that point too#and even clothing wise. someone pointed out that jughead's clothes (pjs especially) drastically changed the moment he wrote about fp#what that means i have no idea but you can't not notice it#and when you look at the musical episode especially kevin and clay had an idea in mind for it - a narrative they were trying to push#but then saw what it was doing to the characters and were prepared to take a step back and listen to them and what they want#and change the story accordingly and while it ended with the majority of them leaving the musical#they left because they were given the freedom and choice to do it because they weren't being forced into a role someone else assigned them#like that's the point: THEY COULD LEAVE!#THEY MADE THEIR OWN CHOICES!#THIS IS STORYTELLING!!!#and i won't hear anything bad against it

In Fathoms Below - Ch. 2
Ch. 2 - The Launch
Characters: Gale, Karlach, Wyll, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Astarion, Halsin, Minthara, Gortash + other OCs; pairing is Gale x fem!Tav Plot: The island city of Nautera disappeared over 4500 years ago, if it ever existed at all. Now not a single, legitimate record of Nautera exists, save for one. The Nauterran Account. Long thought lost, it has recently been retrieved from the depths of Candlekeepâs archives and placed into the capable hands of one Gale Dekarios. With the Nauterran Account in hand and an eclectic team of Baldurians and other allies mounting an official expedition, Gale journeys to find the ruins of NauteraâŚbut hopes to find so much more. A/N: Gale is meeting the team and the submersible is about to launch! For those curious about where a certain pale vampire is, don't worry. He's around here somewhere. Also, have some mood music!
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter | BG3 Masterlist | Read on AO3
Lord Enver Gortash. It wasnât a name that Gale immediately recognized, but the man carried himself with an air of confidence and self-importance that was impossible to deny. Whoever he was to the city of Baldurâs Gate, it was someone of significance.
Gortash straightened from his subtle bow to offer Gale another charismatic smile. âIâm in charge of this little expedition, at the behest of Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard himself. It has been a lifelong dream of mineâand hisâto locate the fabled Nautera. When we heard that there was an ancient record of the islands and that there might be a man capable of reading and deciphering itâwell, it was practically a dream come true. We wasted no time in organizing this expedition to seek out the fabled city. Rest assured, Iâve gathered only the finest to ensure our success. Including you, naturally. Youâve come highly recommended.â
Gale struggled to keep up. Recommended by who, Elminster? And how did this man know about the Account when not even Gale had been certain it still existed until only a few short days ago? And Ravengardâthat was a Baldurian name, if he recalled. One of four Grand Dukes that ruled the city. If this was a Baldurian expedition, why had Elminster arranged for him to join? Then again, perhaps he ought not to look a gift submersible in the mouth...
He set those concerns aside for now. âA pleasure to meet you, Lord Gortash.âÂ
âLikewise.â Gortash snapped his fingers at the drow woman. âMinthara. Gather the others will you? We can have a little debrief before we launch.â
Gale didnât miss the withering look Minthara shot at the back of Gortashâs head, but she turned and left even so. In the meantime, Gortash gestured toward the githyanki, who was watching them both with a sour expression, her arms still crossed over her chest.
âThis isââ
âI am capable of introducing myself, istik,â she said, cutting her eyes briefly at Gortash before settling her gaze back on Gale. She straightened and lifted her chin. âI am Laeâzel of Kâliir. No doubt I will be this expeditionâs strongest fighter, should the need arise.â
âLaeâzel is here to offer her peopleâs expertise on Nautera,â Gortash said, appearing unruffled by her interruption. âThe libraries of Kâliir contained quite a few tirâsu slates with accounts of the islands. Iâm sure the two of you will have much to discuss as we draw closer to the city.â
âTruly?â Gale couldnât help but be intrigued. âI confess, Iâve always wanted to learn tirâsu. No doubt time in your company will prove valuable to us both.â
âSave your words, istik,â she said, settling back against the table and folding her arms again. âI offer only that which is necessary, be it in words or with blades. I do not chatter.âÂ
âAhâŚduly noted.âÂ
Gortash chuckled. âDonât mind her. Sheâs like that with everyone. Ah, here we have our healers. This is Halsin Silverbough of the Emerald Grove and Shadowheart, a cleric who has offered her services to the cause.â
âYou must be the translator weâve been waiting for,â Halsin said, nodding to him. âWell met.â
âFunny,â Shadowheart said, looking Gale up and down. âI thought youâd be moreâŚâ
âMoreâŚwhat?â Gale tilted his head. âDashing? Roguish? Elegantly dressed?â
She pursed her lips. âMore of a peacock, I suppose. Your reputation precedes you.â Her gaze settled briefly on his silver Mystran earring before returning to his face.
âAh. I dare not ask which reputation youâre referring to, if thatâs the case,â he said, laughing somewhat awkwardly. He could just imagine what the others had heard about him by now, especially if Elminster had arranged for him to join up.
But just as she noticed his earring, he couldnât help but notice the symbol on the circlet she wore over her hairâa round black disk like a new moon. Any follower of Mystra would recognize that symbol. It was the mark of Shar, one of Mystraâs longest and most relentless divine enemies. The two goddesses absolutely hated each other.
Curious that there would be a Sharran cleric on board. But if she was here as a healer, perhaps she intended to do no harm. Or so he hoped. He offered her his most charming smile and a little bow.
âRest assured, Iâm more than happy to offer my services to the expedition. The discovery of Nautera is not something a man simply passes up.â
âThatâs the spirit,â Gortash said, flashing him a quick grin. âAh, and I know youâve met Karlach.â
âHello again, Gale,â Karlach said, giving him a little wave. He waved back.
âAnd this is young Wyll Ravengard, son of Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard.â
âAt your service.â The young man bowed gracefully before rising and offering Gale a smile. Gale noticed that one of his eyes had been replaced with a smooth, stone eye and that there were several scars on his face and neck.
For a young son of a grand duke, Wyll didnât look the part. This man had clearly seen trials the like most could only find in their nightmares. Still, it was curious that he was here. From what little Gale recalled of Baldurian nobility, Ulder Ravengard only had one son, and this expedition was sure to be dangerous at times.
Wyll's presence must be a hint of Ravengardâs confidence in the success of the expedition...or else there was some other, darker reason no one dared to name. Gale hoped it meant the former.
âAnd finally,â Gortash said, as the drow woman returned to the table, âallow me to introduce our general, Minthara of House Baenre. She has brought with her a retinue of drow scouts and soldiers that will no doubt be invaluable as we explore any Underdark passages along the way.â
âI also serve as the second-in-command for this expedition,â she said, clasping her hands behind her back. âAnd I suffer no disobedience of any kind. If you will not listen to Lord Gortash, you will listen to me. Is that clear?â
âAs crystal,â Gale said, trying to look sincere. He glanced around the group, trying to match faces with names and names with occupations. Gortash, the lord and leader. Minthara, the general. Karlach, the bodyguard. Wyll, the young noble. Halsin, the druid healer. Shadowheart, the cleric. And Laeâzel, the githyanki soldier and tirâsu expert.
An ecclectic group if he ever saw one. He couldnât fathom why half of them cared about finding the ruins of an ancient city. At worst they would find nothing, save perhaps stone blocks and broken pottery, and at best theyâd locate ancient writings, perhaps a rare fragment of the legendary mythallar. Gale knew what he wanted out of the tripâanswers about Nautera and its relationship with Netheril as well as the pride in knowing he had proven generations of Candlekeep scholars wrongâbut he dared not wonder why the rest were interested.
Perhaps it was better that he did not knowâŚfor now.
âNow,â Gortash said, clasping his hands together. âThere are plenty more important people to meet but you can make those introductions along the way. We had best be off. Gale, you will be sharing a bunk with Halsin and Wyll while aboard the submersible. I trust they can show you the way?â At Wyll and Halsinâs nods, he continued, âSplendid. Everyone, we will meet at the helm in exactly one hour. If youâre not inside the submersible, youâll be left behind. And, GaleâŚâÂ
Gale paused just as he was turning away to follow Wyll and Halsin down toward the submersible. He faced Gortash again, finding himself caught beneath the Baldurian lordâs dark, unreadable gaze. Gortashâs smile, however, was as charming and practiced as ever.
âBring your little book. Weâll have need of it.â
-----
The interior of the submersible was nearly all metal. Metal sheets, metal pipes, metal grates, metal bolts. If it wasnât metal, it was thick glass that peered out into the blue depths beyond. While not entirely unwelcoming, it was certainly different from the creature comforts Gale was used to in his Waterdhavian wizardâs tower.
The bunks, at least, looked passably comfortable, though Gale was a bit disappointed that there was no chance of a private room. Still, Wyll and Halsin seemed sensible, even friendly company.
âHow does a young noble and a druid come to join an expedition like this?â he asked them as he dropped his pack onto the only available bed in the room. It was little more than a narrow padded mattress with a thin pillow and a blanket folded at one end, but it was his now.
Wyll, leaning against a ladder-like set of rungs that led to a bunk over Galeâs, gave a light shrug. âItâs a legendary city at the bottom of the sea, like a fairy story of old. What's not to enjoy? I wanted to see it for myself and my father was only too happy to negotiate a place for me...so here I am.â
Gale noticed a shift in Wyllâs voice at his last sentence, but couldnât quite discern the meaning or emotion. Wyllâs pleasant expression and soft smile were polite, but impenetrable. If there was more to his tale than he was letting on, there was no way for Gale to know it.
âI take it youâre interested in the legends and the history of Nautera, then?â Gale asked.
âOnly what I donât already know. Iâve heard the stories, of course.â Wyll began to gesture with his hands, as if painting the scene. âA fabled city on a distant island, home to a thousand wonders of every kind. Flying ships, walking stone creatures, marvels and magic and more. Only for it to disappear over the span of a single day. One day itâs there, another island in the vast sea, and the nextââ he snapped his fingers, ââgone. Not even a rock jutting up from the water to suggest it was ever there.âÂ
He smiled and dropped his hands, shrugging. âThey say the person who finds Nautera will be granted one wish, whatever their heart desires. But Iâm not so sure thatâs true.â
âPerhaps not, but there are always elements of truth even in the midst of a fairy story or a legend,â Gale said. âPerhaps wishes were granted there, back when it was above water.âÂ
He turned to Halsin, who was seated on the bunk opposite, his wooden staff resting on his knees. âWhat of you? Iâm surprised to see a druid of the forests showing an interest in an underwater city.â
Halsin smiled faintly. âIt is odd, and thisâŚsubmersible is unnatural to me. But I was told there was a need for a healer, and I have been many strange places in my modest life. To see the ruins of a civilization that predates my own peopleâŚsuch marvels are not to be ignored, I think. I am here to be of service and to satisfy my own curiosity.â
âThen our interests align. Though I hope we will not need to rely on your services too much, Master Halsin.â
âJust Halsin, please,â the old druid said, chuckling. âAnd I agree. Though if the need arises, I can be useful in other ways.â
Before he could explain further, there was a sharp knock just outside the bunk room. A young man in uniform leaned in through the open doorway. âSaers, youâre wanted at the helm. Weâre to launch in a few minutes.â
âWeâll be right there,â Wyll responded, and the young man disappeared. Wyll took a deep breath and turned to smile at Gale and Halsin. âWeâd best be off. I hear the best place to witness a submersible launch is at the front.â
He and Halsin ducked out of the room, the tall elf literally hunching to make it through the rounded, low doorframe. Gale made sure to retrieve the Nauterran Account and tuck it carefully into his satchel, alongside his spellbook and a few other supplies, before following them out of the bunk room.Â
The helm featured an impressive array of controls, dials, levers, and gauges, all manned by various pilots, including one surly-looking blonde dwarf at the very front. Overhead, bolted sheets of metal made up part of the sloping, dome-like ceiling before transitioning to curving panels of thick, reinforced glass between metal bars, giving them a clear view of everything immediately ahead and above them, and a fair view of the sides too. At the center of the room, a large, curving, mahogany desk and a surprisingly plush chair took up much of the space, looking elegant yet out of place, as if they had been teleported in from someoneâs office back in the city. Someone had laid out several maps and navigation tools on the surface. The chair was unoccupied at the moment, but Gortash stood just to the side of it, hands clasped behind his back, watching the pilots work.Â
A few paces away, Karlach shifted restlessly on her feet, tapping her fingers against her thigh and turning her head this way and that, as if trying to catch all the action going around her. Minthara, Laeâzel, and Shadowheart stood nearby, with Laeâzel and Shadowheart eyeing each other darkly and Minthara ignoring both of them to stare over the head of a gnome pilot messing with specific controls.
Gortash glanced over his shoulder and noticed the three of them entering. âAh, good. Youâre here, just in time to watch the magic happen. So to speak,â he added, sending a grin Galeâs way.Â
Before Gale could respond, Gortash turned away and directed his next words to the blonde dwarf at the front of the room, where a big metal shipâs wheel was waiting. âRedhammer, begin the launch and take us out to the open sea.â
âAye, saer.â The dwarf pulled one of the levers and took the wheel. âCommencing launch.â
All around the room, various pilots began to flip switches, pull levers, and turn wheels, calling out responses or numbers that Gale could make no sense of and watching various screens and gauges as they worked. He felt the floor beneath him shudder as distant engines roared to life, the dull rumble and vibrations reaching them even there in the helm. The excitement in the room was palpable. Galeâs heart began to pound and his blood began to race through his veins, all in anticipation of the launch.Â
All at once the entire submersible gave a downward lurch, as if being dropped or let go, and a flurry of bubbles billowed up against the glass. Gale moved to a free space near one of the windows, out of the way of the pilots, watching as more curtains of bubbles bounced and twirled upward as the seacraft began to lower gently away from the docks. He felt his ears pop as they sank lower and lower and began to turn away toward the deeper blue of the ocean depths.
No turning back now.
âWatch those power gauges, boys,â Redhammer said, directing his fellow pilots. âSteady now. Increase engines one and three and bring them to thirty percent.â
The rumble from the engines louder grew until it was a sonorous thrum in the background, the vibrations beneath Galeâs boots now a constant drone. Outside the submersible, the massive metal fins on either side came to life, frightening and scattering several fish that had ventured too close. He felt the seacraft tilt and adjust before it fell into a steady, subtle rocking pattern, like that of an undulating whale, as it began to move forward. It wasnât unlike the rocking of a ship on the sea, though perhaps more regulated.Â
As they moved away from the docks and out toward the open expanse of the ocean depths, they cut through fronds of thick, towering kelp, sending fish and other creatures fleeing through the waving undersea plants. It was surreal to watch the underwater world pass by them through the windows of the submersible, almost as if he were seeing merely illusion rather than reality.
âWhoaâŚâ He turned to see that Karlach had joined him at a nearby window, staring out of it in wide-eyed wonder. Her glowing eyes were even more alight as she took in the waving plants, the fish, and the bubbles as they moved through the water. âWeâre really doing thisâŚâ
Her wonder bolstered his own and he offered her a somewhat crooked smile. âNervous?â
She glanced sidelong at him and laughed. âToo late for that now, soldier. Besides, Gortash doesnât pay me to be nervous.â
Redhammerâs voice called out again. âAll engines to forty-five percent. Take us down ten degrees down-angle and hold us steady.â
Working in tandem, the pilots pivoted the seacraft and maneuvered it downward, increasing the speed until they were moving along at a noticeable clip. The kelp forest quickly gave way to rocky reefs with sparse coral and from there to gray, silty sand that disappeared into darkness the farther they descended. The sunlight overhead grew fainter and fainter until at last they were enveloped by inky blue and cobalt, the waters ahead illuminated only by the brilliant enchanted lights that shone outward from the front of the submersible.Â
Beyond the reach of the seacraftâs lights, the depths below beckoned, looking like a vast, empty void of velvet black. Gale held tighter to his satchel, his eyes on the dark waters ahead. He was loathe to pray to any goddess other than Mystraâand even she hadnât been listening to his prayers latelyâbut he was tempted to offer a meek prayer to Umberlee, the chaotic goddess of the seas. They were in her territory, after all...
And at the mercy of her infamously temperamental whims. The darkness of the depths was a tangible reminder of their tentative place in her domain, because, as any Waterdhavian knew, the Bitch Queen was more than capable of summoning a creature from the depths to sink a ship.
A massive submersible diving into her depths would only be that much more annoying to her, and that much more susceptible to destruction. Gale could only hope her attention was diverted elsewhere.

man this clip represents snf's dynamic so well :') Sapnap asking for affection from George, George baiting him into thinking he's getting it, Sapnap inevitably falling for it bc he thinks this is one of those moments that George will give it to him, George juking him, Sapnap not taking that for an answer and touching his hand anyway, and George being displeased that Sapnap got his way and ripping his hand away. and then they both turn away, Sapnap with a satisfied and soft smile, and George with a miffed smile
that classic back and forth of trying to get the upper hand... that's them your honor
#snf#i love when they do that back and forth#it's like a dance yknow#it's why snf is so fun to write to me#anyway there are things i need to get done for this blog but i got emotional over mary pop.pins so i'll do it tomorrow#if you see me listening to mary pop.pins music... no you don't#đ

Another Get to Know Me
thanks @sleepy-night-child for the tag!
a band that you don't like that many others do:
I'm pretty amicable for music. it'd take a song I really hate for me to not like a band. on the other hand, I will like any song that will get me to sing along with it
least favourite animal and why:
bees. when I was a kid, someone told me to not move around bees so that they wouldn't bother you. outside during recess, I froze still cause a couple of bees landed on my shoulders/neck. the bell rang for us to go inside and I had to make a mad dash for the doors despite the fear I'd get stung. hindsight and common sense now tell me bees are generally harmless and wasps are the enemy, but I'm traumatized now and treat them the same
hot fandom take:
head empty, I don't really have any takes, especially ones that aren't already out there. also not really in fandom land, I'm just on my own island.
do you wear any jewellery, if so, what's your favourite piece:
not super devout, but I've got this necklace from elementary school that's a cross with a dove on it that I still wear. otherwise, the owl ring I got a couple years back that I wear as a necklace is the one
a movie others liked but you didn't:
honestly I watch so many movies with my friends nowadays and a lot of them are really bad lmao. I think a recent movie we watched was The Killer and I didn't like it, but it's rated highly for who-knows-why. like it's not even a comedic mess-up, the assassin was just bad at his job and it's not entertaining
three things you love about yourself:
I'm a relatively positive person, or more like I don't have that much hate in my soul. will try to be the best supportive friend you've ever had. and I've got a lot of creative outlets to use!
a place you hope to visit in the future and why:
Japan! I wanna see so many gamer things there. plus the tourist-y landmarks/activities. life-sized gundam is also on the list, if that's still around. and the food! (that I've been seeing because I follow this one guy on YouTube)
an actor that gets on your nerves and why:
the first name that came to mind was Dwayne Johnson for whatever reason, but he's doesn't actually get on my nerves that much
things you're excited about in the near future:
(slowly and surely) getting back to writing!! reviewing some of these games that I've been playing recently, because I've got Opinions on some of them. and getting used to this fancy new limited edition 8BitDo controller that I got. if this was a week ago, I could've said watching my friend finish the main story of Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, but that's already happened
least favourite ship in a fandom you're in:
again, not really in fandom land so I have no idea about what ships go around.
what's the most toxic fandom you've been in:
as a gamer and basketball fan, those are wildly toxic fanbases. gamers are so mean to the devs (sometimes rightfully so, other times not so much) and to other players. like literal death threats sometimes, it's insane. and then fans of basketball would literally boo their own players at times, like what.
list three things you find beautiful about life:
Space science (thanks Kurzgesagt)! Other people's works (art, writing, games, or otherwise)! Family, friends, and pets!
any dreams for the future:
finishing and publishing any of my works so that people can (hopefully) enjoy the experience I made for them
how are you feeling today?
another day of writing, gaming, etc. but it's grey and gloomy outside and it's sucking like half of my energy away, especially because I need to walk the dog later. and the NBA Trade Deadline is at 3pm so I might be spending more time than usual paying attention to player movement/trades between teams, especially because my team is Not Good and I'm expecting them to make moves this deadline.
no pressure tagging @talesfromaurea, @moonluringfrost, @ettawritesnstudies, and sleepy friend already tagged @oh-no-another-idea and @drippingmoon, but I'll tag as well if you'd like :)
#ink rambles#tag game#get to know me tag#saw the music question and went. I was listening to J-Rock but now I'm listening to K-City Pop and realized I'll just listen to whatever I#encountered at that time. or I'll just listen to the same 3 songs on repeat for like a month đ¤Ą. plus game OSTs are just so great that#yes. I will listen to the Karaoke songs from all the Yakuza games. thank you.#a couple years ago the fans of my team decided they would boo every time this one player touched the ball because of something he said in#the off-season. like we traded him away and still they boo'd him when he was on the other team. like come on. the moment is over lmao#trying to do too many things at once has made writing this take more than an hour lol

decided to rewatch oli's christmas song stream from last year and remind me again why the fuck oli/sausage is a rarepair again. he sings no less than five romantic songs about sausage (admittedly two of those are just different versions of santa, baby). one of them is him and sausage singing baby it's cold outside together. oli literally left heaven to find this man. what. what am i seeing that everyone else isn't hello.
#space rambles#sorry every once and a while i have to get ill about them again#remind me of this post when it's actually closer to christmas#and maybe ill write/draw something inspired by them singing it's cold outside actually#more likely draw but idk we'll see what i'm feeling#i do genuinely love this stream even though by GOD sausage cannot hold a tune#oli's great as always though#also in the two different versions of santa baby oli says âive been an awful good boyâ and âive been an awful good girlâ so like. gender wi#slight revision he technically sings FOUR songs about sausage#because he sings last christmas at two points and the first time around he goes:#âthis year to save me from tears ill give it to someone special (sausage)â#the second time around it's eddie because. of course it is.#and also tbh i think the second time around he is??? maybe singing last christmas about sausage?????#they broke up in the like 30 minutes in between the two versions#ANOTHER EDIT. IT WAS FIVE SONGS (can you tell im just listening to the music again)#the âunderneath the misletoeâ bit in âall i want for christmas is youâ is also followed by him going âsausageâ#he's normal

gin, we need your critical opinion about megalopolis. was it really that bad?
i mean.
is it unwatchable? no. but also it is not good for sure. would love for it to be a case of "so bad it circles back being somehow good", but unfortunately no, becasue in order to achieve such a thing coppola should have gone camp and embraced the style instead of taking himself too seriously.
there are. ideas. that considered by themselves sort of make sense if you are desperate to find sense in this insanity of a movie, but whether within or without context for the large part they remain disjointed. and are anyway very cringe at core. i don't know how to put it kindly but the script just sucks. and choices were made.
#continuing in the tags because i'm embarassed lol i am no expert at all and just like watching movies#before and after watching it myself i read and listened to opinions coming from both sides as one does and#listen the movie ain't that deep#what moves some people to call it a masterpiece is essentially the same that moves other call it a disappointment: - this constant quoting#(both in the dialogues and in the visuals) something else something cool#without paying the due attention as to whether each quote is coherent to the context in which it is being used or adds any value to the#general narration#- but also this. delirious. thing with lights and cgi (it should have been practical effects!!) and. editing. that wants to be something bu#it's genuinely just outdatedâ ridicolousâ i found it kinda offending even lol#i appreciate a genuine homage to the arts as the next guy but citations aren't enough#this movie created some talk about the duality of cinema as a form of art and entertainment which isn't entirely out pf place but if you#watch megalopolis you will easily see the entertainment aspect isn't there because the movie sucksâ and that the art aspect is shallow#anyway i forgot all the million things i wanted to add so very quickly:#director: gave himself five stars on letterboxd. bad#writing: bad#editing: bad#photography: okayish#music: don't even remember it#acting: there's only so much an actor can do when their characters are unflattering#set & costume design: i don't understand why the future utopia looks like 10s fast fashion clodius and wow are the only ones who get it. ba#sorry for the nonsense hope my answer is at least more enjoyable than watching megalopolis ha-ha (':#gin answer

dream time
#have to get this down before i forget it#been having weird/not good dreams lately until last night (mere hours ago bc its still dark out this morning)#writing this on my way to work and in the dream i was on the bus to work. however an important difference between reality and the dream is#that in the dream i was sharing my bus ride w mr larroquette. as one does#this was like mouse bites era john im sorry thats the best way i can describe how he looked#and i guess it was like we kinda knew each other?? and we ended up talking about poetry writing and stuff#wish i could remember the specifics of that#at some point we got off the bus and got onto another one unfortunately a common theme in my dreams is going somewhere in a complicated way#and on that bus ride i sat next to him again and he was like oh i normally listen to music for this part of my trip#and i was like ope don't wanna keep you from that! but he didnt mind talking for a bit more and we talked abt music#bc apparently id recommended he listen to the album big world by joe jackson and he said he didn't like it on first listen but hed try again#when we got off this bus and were walkin to where i worked (i guess he worked around there too???)#we went back to talking abt writing and i was talking abt my old poetry writing class and the kind of things i wrote#and he expressed an interest in reading those old poems and i was like oh ok i guess ill look for em#but i was thinking to myself noooo those arent good i wrote those in high school you dont wanna read themmm#and then it became like hard to get down the street bc people were moving slow on the sidewalk (classic new york moment)#so we went out into the street to like cut around#and there was some truck like causing things to get backed up#and so john started like yelling at the truck driver to move out of there LMAO#and i think thats all i remember w him. but i just remember talking w him was very calming and comforting#come on man. what are you doing in my dreams#later in my dream i just remember telling people about this so im telling you all now#anyway .

another interesting thing i bump into when it comes to writing these fics to publish is that i feel the need to continually specify that these characters are thirty because otherwise i'm really worried that people will think they're teenagers based purely on the fact that they live with their parents, which is frustrating in a way i have trouble articulating
#N posts stuff#like in the one i'm working on this week the Changeling spends a not insignificant amount of time fretting about the potential#that its mom won't let it do something without supervision and every time i write it part of me is so adverse to the teenager allegations#that i almost want to do a ff.net style midline author's note (***AN: THE CHANGELING IS 28 YEARS OLD***)#i like you too#idk i just feel like i never see 'still living with your parents' narratives and then even fewer when like. that relationship dynamic#has not shifted with age to something on the 'basically equals' level you know? so i feel like i need to clarify this constantly#anyway i added mixtape playlists to all the OC pages on neocities; tiffany's is still comparatively sparse but all 3 are still WIPs#'mixtape' as in 'music the character would Listen to' not 'music that represents the character' btw
