ok but here’s the thing. twilight probably assumes that a REAL FATHER would run home to his REAL DAUGHTER after a near fatal hostage situation and shower her with affection… oh he HAS to give her a hug with yor there watching! what if someone asks what his reaction was and it isn’t convincing enough? operation strix could be compromised if he doesn’t react the right way!
so if we get any emotional reunion between the two of them i think he’ll use that as an excuse. of course i believe he wad genuinely worried about her safety (he left a mission early to help her!!) but there’s no way in hell he acknowledges those feelings to belong to twilight rather than loid
#this is how we can still win#ofc i think his reaction at the end of chap 75 is very realistic to his character and agree 100% with his reaction#but#i truly would be surprised if endo doesn’t give some sort of insight into twilights feelings#but like my other post. i don’t think it’ll be some huge tearful reaction#it also is dependent on anya’s reaction when he gets home#all i need is a panel of him admitting he was a teeny tiny bit afraid that she would die especially after seeing a BOMB around her NECK#do y’all remember the two week gap where we all thought it was a real bomb#anyway sorry for clogging up the tag i just really love the resolution of this arc#spy x family#twilight spy x family#loid forger#yor forger#anya forger#spy x family manga spoilers#sxf spoilers

Alright, I watched the first lord of the rings film for the first time in my life a couple weeks ago, here are some highlights. Tw for: spoilers for the first LOTR movie (Fellowship of the ring), discussions of: violence, drugs, swearing, and a lot of gay pining, also the use of the phrase “piss river” probably more often than is necessary
Elves: 👀👀👀👀👀
Oh dwarves also: 👀👀👀👀👀👀
Sounds like Sauron had daddy issues, or mommy issues
You might not feel thin if you had more than cake, jam, wine, and moldy cheese in your house
OH MY GOD ARE THEY DOUNT DRUGS
Ooooo I love the fireworks
Why does wizard man get all the history books and papers
How are the children supposed to learn not to repeat the past and die like a little bitch in a piss river if they can’t access the knowledge
At least fucking Frodo makes Gandalf tea god damn
Me @ the characters: HOLD HANDS
Isn’t this other wizard bitch evil. I feel like I remember that he’s evil and a backstabber.
Is there a dragon in these ones or do I gotta wait for hobbit
Ooooo scary glass orb
That’s what I thought you fucking bitch. Fuck you. Close your doors bitch that doesn’t mean you can’t get that fucking staff shoved up your ass. Shove that white orb down your fucking throat till you choke.
You spin me right round baby like a record baby right round round round
CORN. CROMCH. CROMCH THE CORN. ITS READY TO BE CROMCHED.
Oh my god the silly little video game is realistic to the movie? You do get chased around in a god damn corn field?
Bitches y’all are afraid of worms? (Friend: you’re afraid of lady bugs). Yeah but I don’t spend my 110 fucking years of life lolligagging with no shoes on through fields of ladybugs.
They really gave these bitches 0 weapons
Because a horse couldn’t jump 5 fucking feet into the river
Lotr horses weak compared to skyrims. Can’t even fly. 0/10.
These hobbits are so fucking stupid. Real white woman in a horror film vibes.
Whenever the chanting starts I can only think “Asmodeus, Satanus, Lucifer”
Have these bitches never heard of coal
Oh YUCK. DISGUSTING BIRTHING RITUAL. COVERED IN EARTH UTERUS. SLIMY.
[insert the sorry, mommy bit here]
There’s so many handsome men with long hair oh my god
“Still sharp” no shit Sherlock
Also the king of the elves is not daddy material
The elves’ city reminds me of fuckin markarth
Aragorn, that’s his name. Anyway his little smirk? Fantastic.
I’d like to have all their weapons, preferably at once. Take this as you will.
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST BILBO WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT
Off we go, walking. Can’t wait till there’s giant spiders. Pretty scenery though. (Note: I describe all of the LOTR and Hobbit films as films where they walk in circles and do nothing but fight giant spiders)
Tbh I only trust Aragorn here. If shit happens with him later I will be devastated.
Ah yes two old men fighting through magical chants 100% the way to go
Have they really not gotten Frodo a pair of shoes yet Jesus Christ
The pony’s name is fucking Bill??? Everyone else has bomb ass names and the pony is Bill????
Sorry, Gimli, oh tentacles??? 👀. Anyway rip to your family. OH KRACKEN? 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
“I have no memory of this place” me constantly, Gandalf, join the club
Oh that is a huge book
Big oof @ the clanking good job other hobbit
Cave troll: ugly. Not daddy material. Also did they use donkey noises for it?
Rest in piss to Frodo, at least you didn’t die in a piss river like that other bitch
All these men flinging and catching and holding each other while crossing a gap is pretty gay, ngl
Oh dragon? Dragonlike? Whip? Oh fuckin rip Gandalf.
Oh woods time? Is it spider time soon? OH MORE ELVES???
Oh pretty tree elf architecture I approve
Men? Crying at the beauty of a woman? Couldn’t be me.
Oh having a panic attack bc of voices in your head? Me too, dude
Yeah this elf woman? Bad vibes. Creepy.
Why is this one still covered in goopy earth placenta. Give this bitch a bath he has to smell horrible.
Okay how the fuck does the math work out if the human king was 3000 years ago, his son took the ring, died in piss river, gollum had it for 500 years, then Bilbo had it for however long, and Aragorn is the son of the second king?
Auburn hair bitch (Boromir) back the fuck off.
This is a shitty fucking plan sending Frodo by himself.
He go toot toot
Also I wanna run through a forest
Oh that bitch dead, yeet
Do arrows really go that far into someone?
Oh pulling the sword into yourself? Ngl… 👀
Anyway rest in piss to those we’ve lost
If Sam dies by drowning I swear to fuck
Honestly Sam is an OG friend, the only good one
Oh boat burial for Mr. I Thought I Could Have The Ring. He also deserves piss river, so good.

From the Beginning Part 3
Daryl Dixon x Reader
Chapter 3: Introductions
Word Count: 1774
Previous Chapter: https://at.tumblr.com/sleepywriter84/from-the-beginning/hn9qz815xnup
Authors Note: Is an age gap okay with everyone between the reader and Daryl. I'm planning on making Daryl either 28 or 29 and the reader 20. Is everyone okay with that? Or do you want me to change the age gap between them to like 4 to 5 years instead of 8 to 9 years?
...
Crickets. As she regains consciousness, the first thing she hears is the busy chirping of crickets. Slowly, she opens her eyes to take in her surroundings. Her head is pounding, and she has to squint her eyes to alleviate some of the pain.
She is lying on a bed, the windows around her looking out into nothing but a dark green field. Judging by the light, she comes to the conclusion that the sun just set, some of the afterglow of the sunset still lingering behind. When she takes her attention away from the window, she looks deeper into the room she is in. To her right, she sees a door. It looks old and a bit rusted. If she looked straight ahead from where she laid, she could see a dark hallway. Where it led or how deep it was, she had no clue.
Pulling herself up, she throws her feet off of the bed. Reaching up to her head, she notices a soft bandage is wrapped along it. Grunting, she stumbles towards the door she saw earlier. She had no clue where it went, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to know where she was.
Placing her hands on the doorknob, she steadies herself before pushing it open. She was expecting to see a horde of those things that had attacked Atlanta earlier, to maybe see her siblings and her mom all torn up like they were back at her apartment, but instead she was meant face to face with a group of “normal” looking people.
“Ah so you’re awake?” one of them asks, rubbing at his stubble.
Looking around, she notices 16 pairs of eyes on her, awaiting her response.
“I guess,” she mumbles.
The man from earlier with the stubble stands up from his spot on the ground, putting down the bowl that he was holding, and starts to march over to her. Standing her ground, the girl doesn’t move a bit, her arms crossed, and her eyebrows knitted in confusion.
The man comes to about three feet in front of her before he offers her his hand.
“The names Shane. Me and my friend over there,” he points to a black man with short hair, “found you and your buddy Glenn out in the woods about a week ago. Said you hit your head pretty hard escaping the city, you remember any of that?”
Taking his hand, she gives him a firm shake while trying to wrap her brain around what he had just said. So everything was real. Mr. Lich being attacked was real. Her being attacked and saved by Glenn was real. The panic the city was in was real. And her family's death, that was real too.
“Yeah, I remember. Was hoping it was all a dream though”.
“Don’t we all. Everyone here found each other luckily, saved each other from those damn monsters. It was a nightmare. We were lucky enough to find this semi-sanctuary. You were lucky enough that we found you guys”.
“You said you found me with Glenn, where is he?” she questions, looking at each new face, not finding him in the crowd.
“He’s on a supply run right now. Earning y’alls keep. You took quite a bit of our medicine, that cut on yer head was pretty nasty. He’s just out replacing what we lost” Shane answers, fumbling with the belt of his pants.
“Is he by himself?”
“He is, but he’ll be fine, princess. He said he knew his way around. We gave him a gun too. You don’t have to worry, though I probably would have sent him out two days ago if I knew you were gonna wake up this fast”.
Worry overcame her as she thought of her friend out there all alone, and all because of her. She couldn’t help but feel useless. As if noticing her worries, Shane places a hand on her shoulder, squeezing lightly.
“Look there ain’t no time to think about all that could go wrong. You’ve been out for a week now here, and according to your friend, you were in and out the whole two weeks you two were in the woods by yourselves. You’re probably exhausted and hungry. Come sit down, and I’ll introduce you to everyone, keep your mind off things, alright?”
Nodding her head, she follows Shane over to where the other people were, all sat in a line in front of a fire. As she got closer she noticed that the food that Shane had been eating earlier seemed to be some sort of stew. Her suspicions are answered when he pours her a bowl and hands it to her. Taking a seat beside a young boy, she begins to eat while she listens to what Shane has to say.
“So this is our little group from what you’ve seen. Let's start with introductions. I’m Shane, I used to be an officer. That little boy you’re sitting next to that’s Carl, Lori’s kid. She’s the lady with brown hair next to me and him. Next, we got Morales and his kids and wife. They’re over there near the camper you came out of. Now, to the right of me, you got Ed and his wife Carol and their kid Sophia. You see that old man next to ‘em, that’s Dale. The place you been sleepin for the past week, that's his RV. Beside him are Andrea and Amy, they’re sisters. Beside ‘em are Jim and Jacqui. And at the very end there, that’s Merle and his brother Daryl. Now what about you little lady, who’re you?” Shane finishes with introductions and points towards the girl who was a complete stranger to his group.
“My name is [Y/N]” she responds, sinking further into her stew, not liking the attention on her.
“That’s all you’ve got for us. We feed you and take you in, and that's all you got, bitch” the one who was introduced as Merle bellows, crossing his arms.
“Now, we ain’t here to interrogate you. So don’t mind him, he’s got a big mouth. But you see, we’ve all been together for the past 3 weeks. We don’t know you like we know each other. It would be nice if we did though. You do anything before this? You go to college? We don’t got to know everything, but a nice base, that would do well don’t you think?” Shane reasons, holding a hand up to Merle to silence him.
“No school, I graduated high school 2 years ago, that was it for me. I worked at a pizza parlor, that’s where I was when this all went down. Just doing my job and then one of those things tried to get me. Glenn got to me though before that fucker could put his jaws in my shoulder though”.
“You were attacked? How big was the monster?” the little boy besides her questions, leaning into his mom.
“Carl that’s not a question you ask. Sorry, don’t mind him, still doesn’t really understand,” Lori, Carl’s mom answers.
“It’s okay. I don’t mind. I think it was like 6 foot, I don’t know. I just know that I was loosing my grip and wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Glenn”.
“So the whore is strong then. Damn might need to get me a piece of her then,” Merle barks out, slapping his brother, Daryl on the back.
“Like I said, don’t mind him. He’s crude, but he ain’t wrong. You were able to wrestle a big in all by yourself for a bit?” Shane asks, looking intently at the girl.
“Yeah, but I mean it’s nothing. I had twin siblings so I got used to hauling weight around” she answers, biting her lip at the mention of her family.
“And where are they now?” the little girl, Sophia asks.
Swallowing, the woman speaks out, “Not here”.
After that the quarry falls into an awkward silence, no one wanting to talk anymore. Everyone finishes their food and heads off to their respective campsites. Shane tells her that she can stay in the RV until Glenn gets back, and then heads off to wherever Lori and Carl went. Now she was all alone at the campfire except for the two brothers she was introduced to earlier.
“How old are you?” Merle asks, from across the camp, his voice not subtle at all.
“20” she simply replies, trying to finish the bowl of food she had so she could just leave and go back asleep.
“20, damn you’re young. Ya like older men?” Merle barks out, snickering to himself and nudging his brother again.
She ignores him while she tries to finish her food faster.
Scoffing, Merle stands up and begins to walk over to the girl.
“C’mon Merle, leave er alone” Daryl calls out, standing up ready to intervene if he had to.
“Here’s a lesson baby brother, if a bitch won’t listen, make her” Merle calls out, stopping right in front of the girl and kicking her bowl onto the ground. He then rubs his boot into the spoiled stew just to make sure nothing is salvageable.
“So let me get this right. We all save yer ass, let ya in ‘ere and you can’t even play nice. Gonna ignore me, you and the Asian kid together then? Being a loyal whore, is that what you’re playing at?” Merle asks, staring down at the girl.
Scooting back, she stands up, coming face to face to Merle. Up close she can smell the alcohol on his breath, can see his beady eyes that are dilated, can see how he tries to appear bigger to be more intimidating.
“First off, he’s Korean. Second off, he’s just my friend, and he’s all I got left so back off. I ain’t interested in you, so just leave me alone. I’ll be happy to pull my weight around here if that’s what you’re worried about, but I’m definitely not going to sleep my way into here, especially not with you” she exclaims, walking past him and towards the RV.
Merle lets out a quick breath of air before scoffing and kicking the food he had ruined earlier. Daryl watches as his big brother has a tantrum over being rejected by the new girl. As she lays her hand on the door knob, Daryl has no clue why he calls out to her, but he does.
“Just ignore ‘im. He’s just like that, he won’t touch ya, it’s all talk”.
Turning her head, she nods toward Daryl before throwing the door open and walking back into the dark RV.

Part 1-Part 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/N was feeling very lucky. After some failed attempts at getting a job, she wasn’t sure how she was going to afford living. Everything was worth so much more than when she had last had to go grocery shopping.
She had decided though, that she was going to splurge on some flowers to lighten up the apartment. There was a flower shop near home that had been open when she was young all the way till she left for the war. It had been passed down through the generations and she had even been friends with the owners. A couple older than her with a little girl.
Much to her surprise, the shop was still there with the same name. Sunshine’s Flowers. Named after the original owner Sunshine. She walked inside and up to the counter where she was met with a middle aged woman.
“Hi! How can I help you?” The woman chirped.
“I was just looking for a bouquet of flowers to brighten up my dining room.”
The lady helped Y/N find a bouquet and they walked back to the counter to check out.
“And what’s your name?” The lady, who Y/N had learned was Shea, asked.
“Y/N L/N”
It was then that Shea really looked at Y/N. She stared at her for a second then lit up. “I’ll be right back.”
She walked off behind the door and after a couple minutes, then Shea returned with an older lady who looked to be in her mid 90s.
The old lady also stared at Y/N, then smiled. “I don’t know how you’ve stayed so young, but you’re just as beautiful as when you left Miss Y/N.”
Y/N stood shocked for a second, then it clicked. “Dorothy?”
The little girl had been only 10 when she had left, but time had passed.
“Oh it’s so good to see you,” Y/N turned to look at Shea. “How did you know?”
Shea smiled. “Mom keeps a picture of you two in the office. She always talked about how nice you were to her.”
Y/N smiled.
After talking for about an hour, Y/N left with two bouquets and a new job. Her next stop was the VA.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I almost thought I’d never see you again,” Sam smiled.
Y/N offered a meek smile. “I got some flowers to brighten the place up a bit, if that’s alright.”
“Thank you”
After some mild chatter, Sam asked, “What was life like for you before the war?”
Y/N froze. She hadn’t expected that kind of question. She thought back.
“It almost perfect I suppose. Business was getting back on it’s feet, the depression was over by the time I was in high school. I started dating when I was 18 and by the time I was 20 I was moving into an apartment with my boyfriend. A year after we moved in together, he proposed to me. I didn’t have a job, but I volunteered as a nurse sometimes. I mostly stayed home, we could afford it though. My fiancé worked, but he also came from a well off family,” she trailed off lost in thought.
“So you loved your fiancé?”
Y/N smiled. “I loved more than anything else in the whole world.” Her shoulders dropped. “I’d do anything to have him back.”
Sam nodded and silence filled the room.
“I know someone who would understand what you went through, I could call him down here sometime for you two to talk if you’d like.”
Y/N nodded vaguely. She didn’t know how she felt about that offer.
Sam seemed to understand. “Give it some thought,” he smiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She had decided to go back to the VA a week later. She didn’t mind talking to Sam, he seemed to understand in a way that others didn’t. Knew what questions to ask. Of course, that could be because he worked with two people just like her.
Y/N could hear Sam talking to someone in his office as she walked in the front door. She recognized Sam’s voice, but the other was talking so low that she couldn’t really hear it. Sam’s door was partially closed, but not quite shut, which meant she couldn’t just walk up and announce herself. She started debating whether to turn around and come back later or to wait until he was done talking with someone.
Sam had implied that there was someone she should meet, and she was terrified. New people had never really worked out well for her. She shook her head before she could think back, a tactic she had taken up while in public.
Just as she decided to come back later, Sam’s door opened. She turned around thinking it was Sam, instead it was the ghost of her memories. Her heart flew to her throat, then dropped to the floor. She desperately tried to move, to think, to do anything other than stand there and gape at the person in front of her. He seemed to be doing the same thing.
Finally, her words came to her. “James?”
He looked like her James. The same face, although now there were dark circles under his eyes, frown lines where there to used to be smile lines, and a permanent tormented look in his eye that she recognized all to well.
Sam appeared behind James and looked pleased, worried, and unsure about the whole situation. “Uh, Y/N this is Bucky. Bucky this is Y/N, but I think you both have already met.”
So it was true. This was James Barnes. The man who had proposed to her. Bought an apartment with her. Had loved her for god knows how long. Yet after everything that happened, here he was.
It felt like hours had passed before anyone moved, bet then Sam ushered both of them into the room with the beat-up sofas and she curled up into her usual spot.
Sam cleared his throat. “I get the feeling y’all need to talk alone. If either of you need me, please call. We’re the only ones here so.” Sam shrugged then eased himself out of the room leaving Bucky and Y/N together.
Y/N was still in shock. She had no idea what to say or what to do in this situation. A situation she never thought she’d be in.
They sat in an awkward silence until Bucky finally spoke. “How are you alive?”
She stiffened, straight to the point then. “I’m not sure what you mean.”
Bucky looked away. “I- I mean, the Winter Soldier killed you.”
She thought back to that day. While she remembered, trigger days were a little fuzzy, like watching satellite tv while it was raining. She took a deep breath before speaking. “How much of that do you remember?”
“I remember being given an order to kill you. I remember choking you. I remember feeling your windpipe collapse, then they announced you dead.” He had said it with such determination. Fact from the fiction of his thoughts.
“Then I’ll start from the beginning and fill in the gaps. We had gone on a couple missions together,” she started tentatively. He nodded in agreement.
She took that as her cue to continue. “We had gotten close. Not necessarily romantic, but we had become a sort of friends. When it was time for me to get transferred to a different facility, I put up a fight. They called me irrational and childish, but because of my outburst, we both had to be erased. By that point though, you were no longer being controlled with your trigger words, they had already started using the brainwashing contraption to wipe your memory. It didn’t work as well though, so there were some things that you would remember. They had noticed a trend in your memory that you remembered kills, and since I had helped with a couple, they needed you to have a “closure”,” she paused trying to gauge his reaction. When he didn’t say anything, she continued.
“They had you “kill” me, without my actual death. I’m not sure where you got the crushed windpipe from, but you never know what they manipulated with. I passed out and when I recovered enough, it was time for my trigger to be placed. I went into cryo and when I woke up from that, I was in Wakanda.”
Bucky let out a sigh but didn’t look any less tense. “So, you lived, and they just played us both.”
“Essentially, yes,” she muttered. It was hard to think about her time with the Winter Soldier. Frustrating now that she had all the puzzle pieces. They had both been so close, but they had never been farther apart.
“And how exactly do you remember so much? I can’t-“ A deep breath. “I barely remember anything.”
It was hard to miss the frustration in his voice, and she understood that. “Because of the technique they used to block my memories, everything was sealed away, not erased. They never actually got rid of my memories, and yours weren’t supposed to either. When they started to fry your brain, that’s where the damage started.”
“If that’s true, then how do you know all this? How do you remember so much? How do you know so much about the Winter Soldier Project anyways?”
She flinched as his voice rose with every question. She knew how incredibly unfair it was that she remembered and he didn’t, but she also knew that if Hydra hadn’t changed hands later in the 20th century, then he would have remembered just as much as she did.
“I know as much as I do because of the Project I was part of. Project Cecilia was a precursor in every way to the Winter Soldier project. Almost everything you went through; I was the reason it worked. And as I said, your memory was never supposed to be wiped.”
Bucky sat back in his seat. He looked angry, frustrated, and betrayed. Through all of this, she felt a sliver of hurt. He didn’t bring up what they were. He didn’t even ask about her well-being. She figured he had changed, but she didn’t know what to expect. She didn’t know this man in front of her, just as much as he didn’t seem to know her. She wanted to reach out, to see if even a sliver of him was still there.
“Jam- Bucky?” He looked up at her with a weary look. “I… I umm…” She stumbled over her words trying to think of what to say. Then continued to blurt out something ridiculous. “Do you want to get something to eat?”
She ducked her head and scolded herself. Of course he didn’t want to get something to eat. He probably didn’t even really want to go anywhere with her. They were… strangers.
His reply startled her. “Sure, but I don’t know any good places to eat here in the city.”
She nodded and blurted out, “We can eat in my apartment.” She was going to need a bigger shovel for this grave she was digging. Did she really just invite him over to her apartment? Their apartment?
“You mean cook something?”
She nodded numbly, mortified beyond belief what she was getting herself into. He could always say no right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/N had hoped that he would say no. He looked uncomfortable when he had agreed, and hadn’t spoken since they had said goodbye to a seemingly shocked Sam.
She wondered if he even remembered life before he was captured. It hadn’t occurred to her then that he had probably suffered some pretty bad brain damage and memory loss. Is that why he didn’t bring up the past?
While she was lost in thought, they had arrived at the place she called home. She snuck a peak at Bucky. He stared up at the building, but didn’t say anything. She couldn’t quite read him either.
They went inside and got into the ancient elevator and it shook on its way up.
She gave a sigh of relief when they got to door 9C. She felt at home when she slid the key in the lock and turned it with a gratifying click. She had almost forgotten that there was a guest behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She opened the door and walked through, holding the door for Bucky. When he got inside, he froze.
Everything was exactly the same as when he had left. A sense of déjà vu passed over him. It felt wrong to be here. Wrong to see everything, but not able to quite place why. Had he lived here? Why did everything look like it came from the 30’s? He was about to ask her when he noticed the far wall. It was bare, which was odd, as he somehow knew that there used to be something there.
Her voice cut through the silence. “You can put your jacket on the tree and sit wherever you want while I make dinner.”
He just nodded and did as she said to with his jacket. Instead of sitting he decided to take a look around the living room. He meandered over to the mantle where there was a pipe. It looked worn and used. Next to the pipe, was a picture frame that had been laid down to hide the picture. He picked it up and looked at it.
A slightly younger looking Y/N and Bucky stood in front of that very mantle smiling together. He had his arm wrapped around her and her arm around him. Then, like someone blowing dust off a old book, memories started to come forward.
Bucky remembered Y/N much more clearly now. Not everything, but more than before. This apartment had been their home for almost three years. Three years of love, happiness, and safety. He now knew how much he had loved the woman in the kitchen.
Y/N L/N, the girl who he wanted to take his last name. The light of his life. He felt stupid for forgetting. He turned to take a look around the room with new eyes. She really hadn’t changed anything at all. His eyes landed on his leather chair. Like he was on autopilot he walked towards it and sat down. The worn leather comfortable in all the right ways. The chair had been used by him for so long that it had molded to his shape.
As much as he wanted to bask in the renewed memories, this place also reminded him of the life that had been robbed from him by Hydra. All the pain and suffering they had caused through him. His mood shifted. Why was he here? To eat dinner with someone he used to know? He knew exactly what she had done. The upbringing they had both had. Politeness, charm, and hospitality, it was how things worked back then. It was her default.
The more he thought about it, the more it unsettled him. Y/N was living in the past. She hadn’t changed anything because once upon a long time ago this had been her safe place.
He wanted to know more, so he stood up and snuck into the hall that led to the bedrooms. He opened the door to the master bedroom. As he expected, nothing had changed.
Except, for something on the dresser. As got closer he saw it was her dog tags and sitting next to them on the chain was the engagement ring he had bought for her. It dawned on him then that what had been missing from the wall, were the pictures of them. There were no visual reminders of their relationship in the apartment. Why? If she was stuck in the past, wouldn’t she bask in the memories of him too? He had to know.
He walked out to the kitchen where Y/N was folding a sauce into some noodles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/N jumped as she turned around and Bucky was there.
“Oh! You startled me. Dinner is almost ready if you want to set the table.” She pushed two plates with knives and forks on them across the small kitchen island. Bucky nodded and started to set the table. They both sat down to eat in silence for a couple minutes.
If she closed her eyes and pretended hard enough, she was back in 1940 and the US hadn’t joined the war yet.
She was so lost in her fantasy, she hadn’t heard Bucky clear his throat. A second, louder, noise came and her eyes snapped up to meet his.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
Her heart dropped. “Do you mean in New York?”
His gaze hardened a little. “I mean in this apartment.”
“I didn’t have anywhere else to go. I wasn’t a registered live person when I got back. None of my accounts were open and I had nowhere to go.”
She was bullshitting. She could have gone anywhere in the world, but she chose this place.
Bucky shook his head. “Why are you here still then. Why are you living in a museum? You can’t find comfort here. You wouldn’t be weak enough to actually let yourself believe that nothing can hurt you here. Does this place not kill you?” He was yelling by the end. His hands gripping the sides of the table, his vibranium arm leaving minuscule marks on the old wood.
By the end of his mini rant, Y/N was looking at her hands in her lap, desperately trying to keep the tears from leaving her eyes. She looked like a child being scolded by her mother.
Bucky loosened his grip on the table, his anger leaving him when he saw a crystal tear fall to her lap.
Her shoulders were shaking as she cried. Guilt piled onto his shoulders, and he did the only thing he felt he could.
He ran.
Y/N just sat at the table staring at her plate as the door slammed behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You did what!”
Both Steve and Sam were waiting for Bucky to get home. When he did, they ambushed him on how it went. Sam was excited that Bucky even went out. Steve concerned for them both. Bucky wasn’t the same person, and he suspected that she wasn’t either.
When Bucky told them what happened, Steve all but exploded.
“I yelled at her,” Bucky mumbled.
“And did she yell back at least,” Sam asked seemingly hopeful that she had tried to stand up for herself like he knew she could.
“She cried,” Bucky whispered, just loud enough for them to hear.
Steve turned to look at Bucky, “Jesus Buck. Why?”
“Steve you should see the apartment, it looks exactly the same. She acts like she did back then. She does everything but dress like it. She’s hiding in the past.”
Sam put his hand on Bucky’s arm. “That’s how some people cope with trauma. They live like they’re back in a time where they were happy. With as many triggers as she has, I would almost expect that. We can’t take away someone’s coping mechanism just because we don’t agree with it.”
“You have to go back and apologize Buck,” Steve sighed, and with that, Steve left.
Sam let out a small sigh. “She’s just as lost as you are. She told me about her fiancé before the war. I didn’t know that it was you then, but she loved you with everything in her heart, and from where I was standing during that conversation, she still loves you. You gotta give her a chance.”
“I’m not the same person Sam. She loved the old me, back when I was whole. She doesn’t want this mess now.”
“Do you know that for sure? Did you give her a chance to decide that herself, or did you make up her mind for her.”
The Miys, Ch. 149
So, I was super busy on my normal queueing day and wasn’t able to set this up. And by ‘super busy’ I mean ‘doing laundry, weeding flower beds, and taking several naps’, bc I have upwards of 24 niblings and a super-full time job that make me exhausted.
I’m not kidding, I recently told @baelpenrose “I had a birthday party to go to, yes it’s the third Saturday in a row, don’t worry about keeping track because there are SO MANY”.
What doesn’t make me exhausted? Y’all. The likes, the comments, the reblogs, the ‘hey, this person reads my stuff AND Bael’s stuff’ ( @feral-possums-in-the-bog, @drbibliophile, looking at you in a very loving way). Also the speedrunners... all of you who have ever, at any point, found this fic and decided to read every single chapter as quickly as possible ( and have or haven’t shamed me for needing to update the masterpost or page links), you keep me going like nothing else. I, too, like a good binge read, so I know I’ve done something worth... something... when someone else binges like that.
“So the Ark is semi-organic?” I glanced over and resisted the urge to trail my fingers along the walls of the corridor.
“That would be the closest Terran approximation, yes,” they confirmed. “It is not sentient in any form, but all exposed surfaces, for example, are grown in-place of a material native to our home planet.”
“So cool,” I whispered. “Is there a benefit to that, aside from being more sustainable?”
Noah rubbed two liw alongside their sensory organs, and let out a soft buzz - essentially rubbing their face with a sigh. “It is very rare for any species that achieves sentience to reach a level of technology that allows for faster than light travel without what you refer to as sustainability being included in every aspect of their culture.”
“Oh.” I felt ashamed and focused on my feet for a few steps, paying close attention to the feeling of the deck plating through my soles, any uneven textures that I came across turning into canyons of perception.
“In the case of the material coating the surfaces of the Ark,” Noah continued, clearly picking up on my discomfort, “it serves a largely hygienic function, much as Else currently provides.”
“So, that’s what Xio was referring to when she said that Hujylsogox ships largely decontaminate themselves?”
“Indeed. Where my species absorbs impurities from the air and any surfaces we come in contact with, the lining of the corridors, rooms, and vents can purify the rest within a Galactic week.” That worked out to eleven and two-third days as we currently measured them on the Ark, or fourteen and a half days on Earth. “Biofiltration is a very common way to sanitize spaces that often house multiple species to avoid destructive interactions, although the coating we use is known to be the most efficient organic solution.”
Surrendering, I ran my fingers over the wall. Even knowing that it was grown, it still felt like sandstone under my touch. “If it is so efficient, why don’t the Ekomari use it on their ships?”
Their fingers on both vomu clacked as they tapped them together. “In absence of another organism to ingest the larger particulates, sypo is what you would consider to be too efficient.”
“Feathers clog it up?”
“Like you would not believe,” they hummed deeply - a groan, clear as day. “It actually ends up starving the sypo.”
Unbidden, my mind’s eye flashed back to the nightmares that Else had shown me early on: large flakes of the walls falling away and littering the corridor floors. “So, that was a very real thing?” There didn’t seem to be any reason to clarify, given how clearly the images had blared in my head.
“Correct. We believe that Else understood the nature of the material and was trying to show you what was happening in a way they thought you would understand.” A heavy liw gently patted my shoulder. “They meant well, even if they did not realize that it would backfire.”
I was about to ask what the Ekomari use in place of sypo as a biofilter, but my databand signaled me. Judging by the fact that it chimed, flashed, and vibrated against the bones in my wrist, this was incredibly urgent. “I’m sorry, Noah, one mom - ah, fuck…” Pinching the bridge of my nose, I mentally braced myself for what I knew would be coming in the next several days.
“Wisdom, you are distressed.”
“Departmental notification from Pranav and Zach that they will be doing system security testing over the next week. Which means Derek will be doing his best to hack into our systems and take them out, while Pranav and Zach take notes of vulnerabilities and then fix them afterward.”
The face-rubbing sigh was back. “They are not including basic ship functions in this testing, correct?”
I shook my head, relieved that I could at least provide that assurance. “Negative. Only the systems that humans will be replicating on our own once we are on Von.”
“This is still terribly inconvenient. These tests increase tension across the Ark to quite difficult levels to be around.”
“I know, and I’m sorry. It’s mostly from what happened Before, at least for the older members of the crew. I mean, we got a Global Parliament out of it, but… there were a scary few years before we got there. And then the End happened, and the hack felt like some kind of warning looking back.”
Noah buzzed thoughtfully. “You are speaking of the gap in data we found when we were trying to download your planetary database.”
A part of me wanted to laugh at the fact that Miys continued to refer to the internet as a ‘planetary database’, but the topic was so upsetting that any kind of joy felt obscene right then. “It was… another terrorist attack, honestly. They weren’t unusual, as terrifying as that is - I mean, you admitted yourself that not all of us were worth saving. There was a petrochemical hack maybe five years before this one, and the attacks had been ramping up slowly even before that. But this one.” I shook my head trying to clear the thoughts from my head. “What we were told is that this group knew we would never take action against climate change, something about how the rich corporate would never take it seriously until they had to actually live in the nature they were destroying.”
“You are doubtful of this.” Noah’s statement was far from being a question.
Couldn’t blame him, since I didn’t believe half of what we had been told, or maybe that it was only half the story. “I wasn’t old enough to remember, but it is a recorded fact that there were actual people on Earth who had more wealth than any single country on the planet, and one was particularly known for building his fortune on the backs of employees who were worked to death or nearly to death. It’s hard to believe that had nothing to do with it, you know.”
“If being reminded of this event causes such distress among your people, why run so many tests?”
“The hack killed people, Noah. It destroyed entire small countries, caused a lot of violence and wars. The ultra-rich may have been the targets, but the casualties were mostly people who never knew what was happening. We want to make sure it can’t happen again. That’s why we warn everyone what’s going on, so they know it’s not the same thing, but still do the testing.”
More clattering of vomu signaled Noah thinking again. “Your global economy depended strongly on the concept of wealth and the concept of money. But with the current economic model you exercise, such a data security breach would not impact it.”
I shrugged. “We still worry. Not to mention the fact that, at some point, someone may try. We can try all we want to avoid the catalyst of the original events, but some of our better qualities can be just as terrible with just a twist. Curiosity, confidence, and justice and easily turn into pride, vindictiveness, and prying. Which can lead to blackmail. And that’s just one example. Still sure we’re worth it?”
Another thoughtful buzz with some mild clicking. “I have seen your people endeavor to save a species that could have destroyed you. I have seen you, specifically, mourn someone who deliberately attempted to end not only your life but the lives of the entire Ark. There is much evidence to give us faith in your compassion.”
All I could do was shake my head. “I’ll try to have faith in your faith,” I murmured with a weak smile.
You Found Me: One Shot
Summary: Bucky Barnes always came home to you. What happens when he doesn't? Worse than that...what happens when he forgets you existed?
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: A bit of angst and then the squishiest fluff. Mama likes her happy endings, y’all ;)
A/N: I wrote this in an hour and i have no idea where this idea came from lol enjoy! <3
The metal of the chair was as cold as the room. They liked to keep it cold to help him acclimate to being thawed out.
Again.
He sat with perfect posture and waited. What was he waiting for? He didn’t know. He never knew, he wasn’t the one in charge here.
“Soldat.”
He was greeted by a Doctor—at least he looked like a doctor...had the lab coat and everything.
The doctor held a folder out to the him. “Extraction. No witnesses. Eliminate as needed and return to base. Understood?”
Soldat nodded. “Understood.”
He walked with a purpose. He walked like he knew where he was going; like he’d been here before.
The streets were flooded with people. Why wouldn’t they be? It was high-noon on a warm autumn day in New York City.
He didn’t have to look unassuming here, the people didn’t care. He liked that about this place, no one bothered anyone else unless they had a good reason.
And even then, they often didn’t.
About two blocks from the park, the wind shifted, blowing East. Normal, expected; especially with the seasons changing. On his next inhale, he caught the scent of something mouthwatering. Something savory—no, sweet. Buttery too, something he could practically taste on his tongue. Something almost familiar.
He ignored it though, of course he did. His mind and body were on autopilot at this point. Sanction. Extract. Eliminate if necessary.
He looked at the sign that showed the location he was in the park, he was here. Right on to of it—on top of her.
Scanning the field, he spotted her immediately. She was stood on the bridge above the tunnel connecting the two sides of the park. Not an easy escape if she tried it. She’d hit water if she ran left, and the busy New York streets if she ran right.
She’s never going to see it coming...see him.
He rounded the bridge on the city side. If she ran, he’d rather the water be an ally in eliminating the target, instead of the messiness of a car.
Her back was to him while she talked on the phone. She was so unassuming, smiling even, then she laughed.
He froze. Soldat froze. It was like the air had been snatched from his lungs. She laughed again, and suddenly time stood still. His brain fogged with different images. All accompanied by that sound, by that laugh.
He stumbled. The Winter Soldier actually stumbled. “No.” He groaned, closing his eyes tightly and rubbing them with his palms. Another image, accompanied by a feeling. Warmth, elation, safety. Still faceless, but all real and true.
“I’m gonna go, I’ll see you tonight.” He heard her say into the phone. “I love you.”
His heart pounded. Loud, rhythmic thumping in his chest and ears. Another picture floats into his mind...
It’s you.
It comes in flashes at first, like the shuttering of an old film. In a bed, with him. You’re saying the exact same words while you stroke his beard. “I love you, Bucky. I love you.”
Bucky? Who the hell is Bucky? He thinks.
He’s a few steps from you now, four at most. Then he smells something else, something he recognizes immediately—it’s you.
Another chord struck within him, another memory invading the assassins mind.
“James, I cant do this anymore! You leave for days on end, and I never know if I’ll see you again.” You cried.
“Sugar, I’ll always come home to you. I promise.” He reaches for you and pulled you in closed, inhaling your scent.
“What if you don’t? What if they find you?” Tears coat your cheeks.
He shook his head, “No one can keep me from you. No one, I’ll always come back, I’ll always find you.”
You sniffle agains his chest, tightening your grip on him like you’re afraid he’ll float away. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t, doll. You won’t.”
He shakes his head. “Stop it.” He curses to himself, but it was too late. You’d heard him.
It’s was like everything moved in slow motion. You turned around, eyes wide, like you were staring at a ghost.
“J-J...Bucky?” You call, almost in disbelief at your own words.
He was frozen, you—whoever you were, weren’t supposed to know him. He doesn’t even know himself, why would you?
“No.” He said roughly.
You shook your head and looked down. “They got you. They got you and now you’re here for me.”
“Yes.” What more could he say?
You look back to him, piercing eyes boring into his, “Will it hurt?”
The soldier looked confused, “Will what hurt?” He asks.
You sniffled, “When you kill me, James.”
A punch to the gut. That’s what your words felt like...why? Why did they feel this way? You were a target, a mission. Just another mission.
He swallowed hard. “No.”
And he means it. It will be quick, he’d make sure of it. You weren’t made for suffering, and by the circles under your eyes, you’d been suffering enough.
You nod, accepting your fate, and close your eyes. Bucky takes a step towards you.
“Now, Tony! Now!” You shout, eyes still closed.
Before he knew what was happening, he was grabbing at the sharp pain stinging in his neck.
The last thing he saw was your face, then the world went black.
The beeping wakes him.
Looking down, Bucky sees the wires and tubes connected to the machine next to him.
A hospital. He thinks.
Scooting back, he groans as the muscles that surely haven’t been used for a while protest, and ache.
He tossed his head back against the pillow.
Remember. Remember something...anything.
“You’re awake.”
The melody of your voice brings an immediate calm to him. He sits up, ignoring the pain.
“Relax, you must be hurting. Here,” you held out the cup, “Drink this, it’ll help.”
He looked from you to the mug for a moment, hesitating.
You sigh, putting it in his nightstand, then placing a hand over his. “You’re safe here, Bucky. I promise.”
And he believes you.
“Wh-where am I?” He asks, a voice sounding like he’s swallowed gravel.
You once again hand him the mug, and he sips it eagerly. Tea. He thought. I like tea.
“You’re at a facility in Upstate New York.” You said calmly.
“Why...how did I get here?” He rubbed his eyes with his free hand.
“You needed help. You were being held hostage by HYDRA. Tony...Tony Stark helped me find you. He helped me save you, Buck.”
Stark. Stark. Stark...Howard Stark. December...cold. A crash, the accident...the blood.
“No one here is going to hurt you. They’re helping you, I swear it. They’ve been helping me look for you for the last five years, they never stopped.” Your voice was shaking now. “Dr. Banner developed something, you’ve been sedated for about a week. He’s hoping it will fill the gaps in your memory. A serum of sorts.”
Great. Bucky thinks, Just what I need, another serum.
“And you?” He asked softly, not wanting to upset you more. “Who are you?”
You let out a defeated sigh, he watched you, seeing the pain on your face. Before you could speak, he cut you off.
“I know you, or...my mind knows you. My body. I have all these memories filled with your face. Who are you...to me?”
You look a bit more relieved. “I...I’m...it’s hard to explain—“
James put his hand over yours this time. “Try me, Doll.”
Doll. It came out so naturally, and without inhibitions that it didn’t take a brainiac to know who you were. Not wholly, but he felt it.
He saw the goosebumps on your skin, “I’ve loved you forever, James Buchanan Barnes. There was a time you loved me, too.”
Bucky felt a warmth spread through his chest. It climbed his throat, invading his brain and bursting into fireworks of memories. All vivid and sparkling and bright.
Your name comes out as a whisper at first; so soft you truly didn’t know if you’d imagined it.
You nod frantically. “Yes. Yes, that’s me, baby. That’s me.” You sit next to him, and cup his face in your hands.
He closed his eyes tightly, willing the information to show up.
“Sokovia...they got me in Sokovia. I didn’t...I didn’t keep my promise.” James felt his throat tighten.
“Wh-what promise?” You asked. He opened his eyes and saw the tears pooling in yours.
“I didn’t come home to you. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Sugar.” James cried. For the first time in years, he was crying...feeling.
He knew he loved you. That much was clear. His mind was still in shambles and he knew that too.
“Yes you did. You found me again, I’ve been on HYDRA’s radar for years trying to get them to send you after me. I knew you were coming for me, so I had everything on standby waiting to get you out of there.” You were proud of yourself, he heard it in your voice. Hell, he was proud of you too.
Bucky sniffled, “My girl took down HYDRA. Damn, I’m a lucky son of a bitch.” He laughed.
Your hand cupped his cheek, the warms bringing so much comfort to him. “I love you, Buck.”
Bucky cupped your face in return, “I love you, too.”
He was nervous, but he leaned in anyway. The kiss was soft and gentle. The feeling of the two of you melding into one was more familiar than anything.
When you pulled away, Bucky kissed your closed eyes. Something he remembers doing a thousand times before.
“What do we do now?” He asked.
“Steve’s on his way. I have a feeling we’re going on a bit of a trip.” You say smiling.
Bucky smiles, grateful he remembers Steve. “A trip? Where to, Doll?”
You smirk and kiss his nose. “To see another old friend of yours—in Wakanda.”
the bachelorette chp 5, part 2: connie’s proposal
an: hey yall 😛 i'll be posting another q&a before the final elimination chapter comes out. the day after that, i will close the poll, so make good choices! if you wanna change your mind, do it NOW! if you haven't voted, NOW is your chance😁 also, once again, i had to add an extended part to the connie family chapter because the full thing did not upload :( if the extended part helps you change your mind on connie, let me know! also, i really like this chapter because i could properly write a beach story! i went to a beach last week for the very first time and now i won't sound stupid when writing (and i'll never beat around the bush again!) link at the bottom!
tags: fem, black reader
tag list: @taybird
Unlike Jean, Connie did give you an idea of where you were going. He told you to bring some sandals and a light outfit and "not to worry about swimming because I know you don't want to mess up your hair- or makeup". There was a high chance you would be going to the beach where you had your first solo date. It was also the first time you talked about Connie being your husband. He said something about being "wise" about your decision. Now that you think about it, there was a pattern of Connie trying to avoid the fact that you two would have to be in love. You wondered if he'd bring that up again while proposing to you. You wouldn't want to say no to Connie if he did that but the whole friend zone thing is a BIG turnoff (y'all's words, not mine 😉)
But there was a positive side to this maybe? You already knew Connie and he had a higher advantage than Jean. You wouldn't even have to think about building a connection with him because you already had one. But the problem was love. You knew would enter a relationship with Jean, y'all would be lovey-dovey BUT you would need to build a friendship too.
Damn, this was hard. But this would all be over soon. You'd get a big wedding and if you didn't like Connie or Jean, you could move on. It's not like you're signing papers at the televised ceremony.
But anyways 😭 let's starts Connie's date. No time for analysis!
Connie had texted you that he was outside. You grabbed your purse and left the mansion. When you got outside, Connie was leaning on his car, being handsome and all.
"Hey," you greet him. You hold your arms out, hoping for a hug or even a kiss. Connie steps forward leans towards you but his head goes to the side and he's hugging you. Would this guy wait till the possible engagement before getting romantic with you or would the rest of your marriage be like this?
Connie pulls away. "I'm really excited," he says. You want to yell at him right now but the day just started. Maybe he was doing all this to lead you on and make sure you want to fight for him. To be real, this was getting tiring. Connie better be doing something big!
"I'm really excited to see what you have in store for me as well," you reply. Other than seeing Connie's next moves or his proposal, you were excited about the food. You knew Connie could cook, it was in his genes and he did cook for you multiple times throughout the show. As Connie opens the passenger seat for you, you begin to ask him what was on the menu today.
"Well, I've noticed how nauseous you get when under the pressure, so I made egg sandwiches and I packed juices and water. I hope that's alright. When we get engaged, I'll make you a big meal. I promise," Connie says before closing your door.
You thought it was sweet that Connie took note of that. When he got into the driver's seat, you gave him a small smile before opening your mouth. "Thank you, Connie. I really appreciate the fact that you thought about that."
Connie starts the car and begins the drive to the venue. There wasn't much talking done, probably because you would bring up the whole friendship thing. You wanted to get that settled but you also wanted to see what Connie has planned. These two dates weren't just about you saying yes or no but it was a way to see how much Jean and Connie wanted you. If there were problems in the past, they would try and fix them now.
Minutes later you were at the beach (you were right😁). Connie found parking and got out of the car to get the food. You got out on your own. It was weird not having someone rush to your side to open your door. Connie met you on your side of the car and offered you his hand. You can't remember him doing that before (if he has, forgive me yall🧍🏾♀️). But his hands felt nice, so you couldn't complain.
The same table from your solo date remained there. "Hey, Connie, just for you, I'll get in the water," you suddenly say. "Huh?! Really?!" he explains. 'Gosh, what a kid,' you think. "You just made this better, y/n! Thank you!" Connie continues. "Just my feet though. I didn't come here to get baptized or anything."
Connie places the picnic basket with all the little things he packed for you. He then proceeds to pull a chair out for you. When you sit, he pulls out one egg sandwich for you. "Juice or water?" Connie asks. "Um, (juice/water)," you reply. He places the drink of your choice in front of you and finally sits down. Connie sets up his food and is ready to dig in until he notices that you haven't touched any of your food.
"Hey...is everything alright? You feel sick?"
You shake your head. "Connie, we need to talk."
Connie sits up slowly. "What's up?"
You liked that Connie was able to see that something was up. This would be useful if you got married.
"How long are you going to friendzone me?"
Connie chokes in his spit. "What?"
"I mean sure we've been lovey-dovey but I still don't feel that romantic connection. If I do say yes to you, I expect us to start acting like a couple. I want you to be my husband, not my friend."
Connie is silent for a minute and then he opens his mouth. "But people who are friends-"
"Oh, shut up. You can be my friend but I want a husband! Please, stop bringing up those statistics and love me!"
You never thought you would be throwing a mini tantrum over a man. Is this who we are? Is this what we represent?
"Come with me," Connie says. You're hesitant to get up until he offers his hand to you. You take it and he pulls you up from the chair.
Connie slowly leads you down the water and you start to freak out mentally. Was he going to drown for telling him off? Connie wasn't that crazy right?
As you walked, you felt yourself slipping out of your shoes. The sand didn't hesitate to fill in the gaps of your toes and tickle your feet. The further you went, the deeper you were. Connie was just walking like it was nothing. You reached the water and Connie came to a stop. For a moment, he stared out into the ocean. You just stared at your feet. The waves pushed the water on your feet causing you to sink more into the sand. This was the world. You were on the edge. You weren't going to live for long, so you had to make the best of it.
"y/n, I hear your cries for love and I'm willing to give it to you. Marry me. I'll work on myself and you'll work on yourself. I promise you, I'll do anything to grow old with you."
Connie’s ring didn’t come in a box. He just pulled it out from his pocket. It was a diamond covered band with a halo shaped sapphire right in the middle.
damn, wonder who y’all gonna choose🤒 LINK
if you’re curious about how these rings look like, here:
connie (left) jean (right , however, his doesn’t match the description i wrote😒)
I Love You Pumpkin- A Kristanna Week “Yellow” Fic
Universe: Modern AU Rating: G (It’s just fluff y’all) Length: 2826 Words
For day 3, yellow, I went with concepts of “harvest” and “joy” to make a little pumpkin farm date AU. I threatened to write one of these a while back after going on a pumpkin farm date with my boyfriend, but didn’t finish it for Halloween. I hope y’all will enjoy it anyway!
Anna took Kristoff's hand as he helped her out of his truck. He was, as always, the most courteous man she'd ever met. It was just in his nature, she thought, to take care of others. Since they'd started dating she'd truly come to notice and appreciate just how second nature it was for him to help.
It was one of the things she loved most about him, his willingness to step up and support her. She was glad for it, because it coincided with a particular inability on his part to ever say no to her. She knew that it was silly to plan a whole day around going to a pumpkin farm meant for children without bringing any children along, and yet when she'd suggested it, he'd just smiled and nodded and let her make the arrangements appropriately.
"I'm so excited!"
She was barely able to contain her desire to bounce up and down in her seat when she spotted a little hand painted sign with the farm's name just ahead on the path leading away from the gravel parking lot. She hadn’t ever gone to a pumpkin farm, at least not that she could remember. Her family didn’t do many outings at all after Elsa got sick, and while she’d been reassured by many that she hadn’t missed out on much, she still felt that she had missed something.
Kristoff understood. He’d had all those childhood experiences that Anna craved, but he’d had them after turning eight, when his parents adopted him and strove to give him the childhood that every other normal kid had. He understood that while most people didn’t think a trip to the pumpkin farm was important, it was important to Anna. For him, she knew, that was enough a reason to take the half hour drive.
"I noticed," he teased, squeezing her hand a couple times as he swung the passenger side door shut, "You were bouncing your foot the whole way here. You only do that when you're nervous or excited and I figured my driving couldn't have been that bad, so it must just be the pumpkin farm anticipation."
Anna smirked, squeezing his hand back and rocking up onto her tiptoes to press a kiss against his cheek.
“You’re an excellent driver. I trust you completely. I don’t even grab onto the door like I do when Elsa drives.”
He grinned at the compliment and chuckled at the mention of her sister’s driving. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Elsa was a bit of a distracted driver, often too caught up in her own thoughts to notice someone in front of her braking until the last second.
She pressed close to his side as he led them toward the gravel path that led to the pumpkin farm. It was a warm afternoon for autumn, the morning had been frosty but the light breeze didn’t chill Anna in her flannel and bluejeans, nor did it seem to affect Kristoff. It carried on it the scent of popcorn and something sweet.
“I read on the website that they have a fudge house,” he said, either noticing the scent for himself or being somehow able to sense Anna’s mouth already watering, “Is that going to have to be our first stop, or?”
Anna shook her head as the many small buildings of the farm came into her view. She could see the sign posts just ahead pointing to the different attractions offered by the farm, among them being spooky displays, a haunted haywagon ride, a small family friendly corn maze, a barnyard, and of course, the pumpkin patch. Sprinkled between there were small shops selling snacks and small trinkets that Anna already knew she’d be picking up before they left.
“Of course not. They have a barnyard, we have to start there.”
She felt Kristoff bump into her side playfully and rocked her hip over to bump him in return.
“Of course, how could I be so foolish. It’s not as if you’ve ever seen a chicken or pig or goat before.”
She had, on more than one occasion, visited his family’s small farm and while there petted their livestock and most recently spent time picking apples from their orchard. She hadn’t been raised in a large city, but she had been far enough into town that she hadn’t spent much time around animals as a child. Helping her collect eggs for his mother and bringing her to see their newest goat when it was newborn were other ways he’d tried to help fill in gaps for her. They were experiences she treasured, particularly the memory of him, hand over hand, helping her to bottle feed the small kid.
“I’ll have you know sir,” she said with mock annoyance, “That they have a mini horse.”
He lifted both hands in surrender, picking up hers with his as he did so, not releasing it even as he teased her.
“Well then, that changes everything.”
***
After the time spent speaking in a baby voice to the miniature horse, Anna brought Kristoff along with her to look into each and every little display set up on the property. They tossed coins into a witch’s cauldron in return for a wish, watched as a skeleton popped out of a steamer trunk, and spent some time listening to children speaking to a giant talking pumpkin, asking her questions about her life to which she promptly replied.
“You’d be great at that job,” Kristoff mentioned as an aside as they walked away from the children.
“Being the lady on the other end of the microphone in the pumpkin?”
“Well,” Kristoff offered, “I don’t think she’s actually in the pumpkin, I assume it’s an intercom situation, but yes. You’re great with kids and you’re smart so I think you’d come up with quick answers and keep the magic for them.”
Anna felt her heart skip at the compliment, but Kristoff carried on walking them toward the fudge house like it had been nothing to say something so kind. She often wondered whether he knew how much he affected her when he said things like that, or when he casually reached for her hand, or when he kissed her, even chastely. There were days where she thought she might catch fire under the warmth and multitude of his affections, and he never acted as if it were anything more than natural.
She sometimes imagined a future where he was like that with their kids, kind and loving, doling out praise and affection easily and with little pomp and circumstance. His free way of giving affection, even when he was cranky and acting gruff was one of her favorite things about him.
“I guess I should inquire for next season then if things don’t go well with my teaching job.”
He smirked and leaned down to kiss her on the cheek quickly as they walked behind a building out of the sight of prying eyes.
“They love you there, you’re the best third grade teacher they’ve ever had. I saw the crayon drawings on your fridge to prove it. I don’t expect you’ll need the job. Unless of course, you’re planning on buying enough fudge to fill my truck, because then you might want to think about it.”
***
She didn’t buy enough fudge to fill his truck in the least, buying two large pieces, one for herself and one to give her sister if she didn’t eat it on the ride home. Kristoff had bought them both cider and doughnuts that they called an unhealthy pre-dinner snack before buying their tickets for the corn maze and hay wagon ride.
The afternoon had dimmed down and night approached nearer, and while the corn maze hadn’t been much match for them, Kristoff being able to see the exit the whole time due to the way they’d cut the corn down shorter for the kids, the hayride proved to be quite fun. As they passed by different “haunts” on the path the tractor and wagon took, they worked together to spot little secrets or decorations that made the displays even more interesting.
Kristoff had been the one to notice a lightning rod in the woods behind Frankenstien’s monster, and Anna had been the one to tell him that one of the monster masks on the trees had been painted, scuffed up, and generally repurposed from a kid’s superhero costume. A scarecrow with glowing eyes caught Anna off guard, and Kristoff had taken the opportunity to pull her closer to his side as she jumped.
While it wasn’t truly frightening, and while the air wasn’t quite cold yet, Anna had been happy to have the excuse to cuddle in close to him. Leaning her head against his shoulder as they chatted a bit more about the displays and discussed their thoughts on what pumpkin they should purchase before leaving.
***
“We have to get the ugly one Kris,” she said, purposefully giving him puppy dog eyes and sticking out her lower lip.
Of course she knew that the theatrics were unnecessary and that he would consent to any pumpkin she chose, but it was all part of the fun. She had to convince him to love the oddly shaped, warty, off kilter pumpkin as much as she did.
“No one else will pick him, and he deserves a home for Halloween. It’s like the tree in Charlie Brown. It’s not such a bad little pumpkin.”
Looking directly at her, she saw him trying to hold a stone face. His eyes betrayed too much mirth though, for any real protest to be present in his thoughts.
“Maybe,” he said with a sigh, a smile forming quickly on his lips as he cracked, “If we carve enough out of the one side, he’ll balance better. If not I’ll grab some shims and we’ll give him a support system to keep him standing up on the porch.”
She excitedly lifted the pumpkin from the ground at his approval and acted as if she didn’t watch his hands twitch as she carried the large gourd towards the checkout stand. Many others had caught her eye as they walked through the neat rows of pumpkins and squash, but this oddly shaped one had called to her. It was awkward to carry, and while Kristoff didn’t offer to take it from her as she hefted it along, she saw him in her periphery putting his hands into his pocket so as to not reach for it.
“I’ll pay the man,” he said, clearly not being ready to watch the balancing act that would ensue if Anna were to hold the pumpkin in one arm and try to riffle through her purse with the other.
She thought it might be funny to attempt it, if only to see his crabby side come out for a moment. He was never mean, of course, but he did sometimes grumble like an old man, and she often found it enjoyable to kiss the crankiness out of him.
It was a pastime of hers that she found he also enjoyed.
With the pumpkin paid for and their adventures concluded for the day, they set off for his truck once more, the sky getting darker by the minute, but still bright enough to see quite well by.
“So,” he asked as he loaded their pumpkin into the back of his truck, paying particular attention to ensuring that it would not roll despite its odd shape’s propensity to do so, “Was this the pumpkin farm experience of your dreams?”
Anna nodded, seeing the pumpkin successfully loaded, and turning to open the door to the truck.
“All that I could dream of and more,” she said, patting her purse where the remainder of her chocolate fudge, as well as her sister’s piece were located, “Thank you for coming with me. I had a great time.”
He stepped around to her side of the truck, offering her his hand as she stepped up to enter the cab, releasing it only when she was seated so that he could close the door behind her.
She watched from the passenger seat as he shoved his hands back into his pockets and walked around the truck to enter his side.
There was a bit of an odd look on his face, like he was mulling something over in the short five step walk. His hand was still in his pocket when he opened the door with the other and climbed in, swinging it shut, a bit awkwardly, with the hand that was not in the pocket.
“I’m glad you had fun… I’d like to make everyday… no, that’s not it…”
He was mumbling a bit and Anna offered him a confused look and a tilt of her head. He wasn’t usually a man who started saying something and cut himself off unless he was still thinking about what he wanted to say, or unless he was trying to say something important.
“Anna, everyday I’m with you is an adventure. I never thought that I was the type of man who wanted to wake up to a surprise everyday, but I guess it’s no surprise that I love you, and if pumpkin farm dates and ugly gourds and small animals are what you love then I guess I love those things too. If you’ll let me, I want take you on adventures, and hold your hand for as long as we can.”
He pulled his hand from his pocket, and in the quickly dimming light of the afternoon turned evening, she saw a small shining ring in his large palm.
“Anna, what I want to ask you is… will you make me the happiest man alive and do me the honor of letting me call you my wife?”
***
The ring was beautiful and unique, the stone in the center being a beautiful yellow-orange, flanked on either side by smaller stones set into leaf-like shapes. Anna could hardly breathe, let alone speak, so for a moment she simply flapped her hands in surprise as the tears rolled down her cheeks. She nodded yes quickly, and managed to choke it out as he watched her with a shy smile.
“I’m sorry this wasn’t as special as I wanted it to be, but I’ve been trying to find the right time for weeks, and I tried to take you out to dinner last week but I got called into work and I wanted to do it with your sister there so you could have her and…”
Anna leaned across the console of his truck and wrapped her arms around him, the hug not quite as full as she wanted it to be with the separation. She kissed him fully on the lips when she got him close enough, stopping his apology in the middle as she showed him exactly how perfect he’d made the proposal, and every moment of every day before it since they’d met.
They sat like that for a long while, pulling each other close and kissing and smiling and wiping away happy tears, until finally he slid the ring onto her finger and they were content to take a moment to breathe with their hands clasped atop the console.
“I was so nervous tonight,” he admitted, his thumb running along hers as he spoke.
She shot him a look of surprise, then laughed.
“You didn’t seem nervous at all. You never seem nervous when we’re alone together.”
He smiled at her in return and shook his head, “I was checking my pocket every ten seconds for the ring and then I kept wondering everytime we did something. Is it the right time? Should I propose in front of the mini-horse or on the hayride?”
She couldn’t help but snort at the idea of being proposed to in front of a miniature pony. She probably would have loved it in the moment though, given it was Kristoff proposing.
“This was perfect. Just you and me, in your car, knowing that we’ll get to show all our friends and family later but just having the moment for ourselves. It was perfect.”
“Well, just so we don’t slight anyone… we could send the mini horse a wedding invite.”
She swatted him playfully and fell back into her seat, releasing his hand so that she could put on her seat belt.
“Or we could head to your parents house now and inform them… and maybe also the goat.”
“Do you want the goat in the wedding?”
“No,” she said, mentally making note to call her sister as soon as they were on the road and have her meet them at Kristoff’s parent’s place, “But if we have it on the farm it would be rude not to invite all the residents.”
She heard his laugh, rich and joyful, before she felt his arms wrap around her again, pulling her as close as possible for another kiss.
Cause baby you’re a firework.
A/N: Hi everyone! This is a bit of an angst heavy fic. Reader gets hurt on a case, and Spencer, her best friend worries he didn’t get the chance to admit his feelings. It has a fluffy ending!
Trigger warnings: Explosions, bombs, swearing, mentions of violence, blood, surgery details.
“So, my loves, bit of a heavy one for a Monday morning but there have been a series of explosions in Dallas, all big companies, 50 dead and counting.” Garcia said.
“That’s not as high as I thought it would be.” Emily says.
“Some have life threatening injuries.” J.J said as Garcia quickly went through the photos trying not to look at the horror of the blast and the injured victims.
“Why have we been called in baby girl?” Morgan asks
“The un-subs have been in disguise, a different one each time and seem to pose very professional so security doesn’t question them.” Garcia said, “We need to find them fast.”
“Wheels up in 30.” Hotch said closing his case file.
Everyone nods and grabs their go bags. “You okay Spence?” You ask your best friend
“Yeah, just these victims didn’t deserve this. No one deserves this.” Spencer says
“We know kid.” Rossi says to the 30 year old, “Let’s roll.”
On the plane
“Y/N, you used to be a bomb diffuser, didn’t you?” Hotch asked
“I did. Why?” You ask. Before the FBI you used to work dealing with this stuff every-day and have saved thousands of lives.
“Do you know what bomb this is?” Hotch asked showing you a photo of the last bomb used.
You look for your glasses before Spencer lends you his, as you have the same prescription, “Yeah, it’s a T148. It’s used mainly in Afghanistan and 3rd world countries where there are wars still going on. Small put powerful. Could kill anyone within a 10-mile radius.” You say handing Spencer his glasses back. “I’ve diffused a couple.”
“Y/N, how old are you?” Rossi asks, “I don’t like to ask women their ages, but you are very young.”
“I’m 24. I diffused one exactly like this when I worked for the MI5 in London. This bomb is poorly constructed though. The wiring is badly put together, probably explains Emily’s theory on why not as many people died in the buildings, only those about 2-3m from the bomb would have died and everyone else life-threatening injuries as J.J said earlier.” You say. “I’d say our un-subs are young, similar aged to me and doing this because they are being forced to for some reason such as their families being threatened.”
“How awful.” J.J says
“I’ve seen it before, it isn’t pleasant.” You say, not really keen on talking about your past but know the team wouldn’t ever judge you, or force you into saying something that made you uncomfortable but their facial expressions tell you they want to know what happened. “Last case I did in London, before transferring here, a family were held hostage in their own home and the un-sub wouldn’t let them go unless their son blew up their family home with them all inside. It was horrible.”
“What happened?” Spencer asked
“I ran into the house, and diffused the bomb, but the unsub found me stabbed me in my stomach and back multiple times just as I diffused it. He got shot dead outside, the next thing I remember is the family thanking me for saving them and the doctor saying I was in a coma for 7 days as I lost that much blood. One of the family members had the same blood type as me and donated the blood I needed as a way of thanking me for saving them or I would have died in surgery.” You say getting out of your chair, showing your scars on your stomach and back from where you got stabbed and had surgery.
“Shit.” Emily said.
“Did your family come to see you?” JJ asked
“I don’t have a family. I’m adopted and I don’t get on with my real family, or my adopted ones. I moved out when I was 18.” You shrug, not really bothered by it. “And before you all give me your condolences, I don’t need them. You are all my family now.” You smile as some turbulence occurs.
“Y/N are you okay to look at the diffused bombs when we arrive into Dallas?” Rossi asks you softly
“Yes, of course.” You say and get some sleep, but still dream about that day once a week and it keeps you up at night.
“How old was she when that happened?” Spencer asked, referring to the house bomb you just referred to.
“18.” Hotch said, “It’s in her file. She saved not just the family but the whole street as it was late at night.”
“Poor kid.” Rossi said as some turbulence hit the plane. “I didn’t realize she’d joined us when she was 18.”
“She really doesn’t act her age.” Morgan said, “When I was 24 I was doing stupid shit like getting drunk with my buddies and playing socker.”
“I didn’t know you were a bad flyer.” Spencer said noticing Rossi looking uncomfortable
“I’m not, I just hate turbulence.” Rossi said, holding onto his seat.
“You know turbulence very rarely causes planes to crash.” Spencer said looking up from his file.
“That does me absolutely no good at the moment. Thank you.” Rossi said through gritted teeth
“What we really need to worry about are microbursts - a sudden downburst of air associated with thunderstorms - but small craft like this one, if we hit one of those at the wrong altitude... Get pulverized.” Spencer said as he sipped his coffee.
“I beg of you to make him stop.” Rossi said to the rest of the team
“You can’t silence genius.” J.J chuckled
The team arrives into Dallas
“Wake up sleepy head.” Spencer smiled, gently waking you unaware you had the horrible dream again.
“Yeah.. Coming.” You say rubbing your eyes looking for your go bag.
“I got it.” Spencer said
“Thanks, and for lending me your glasses earlier.” You yawn.
“No problem.” Spencer smiled at his best friend.
You smile back as you get into the car and drive to the police station.
“Hi I’m J.J, these are my colleagues, Rossi, Hotch, Morgan, Y/S/N and Dr Reid.” J.J said shaking his hand, “You must be detective Smith.”
Smith nods, “Sure am. Set y’all up a conference room with donuts and coffee.” He says in a British accent.
“Donuts and coffee? To what to we owe the pleasure of food?” Morgan said as Smith shrugged winking at you.
“You know him kiddo?” Rossi asked
“He was in the same foster home as me.” You sigh, he beat you up a few times and eventually you learnt to fight back telling Rossi what he did to you.
“Just remember you are so much better than him Y/N, you’re in the fucking FBI and he’s a lame detective.” Spencer said, “And you have a donut.” He smiled shoving it in your face which made you laugh.
“And I have a family, and a dork of a best friend.” You smile, trying to hide your crush on Spencer, unaware he feels the same and start to eat the donut.
The team deliver a profile
“Hotch, can I go to forensics and check out the old bombs?” You ask
“Yes, of course Y/N. Spencer, Morgan, go with Y/N.” Hotch said
“Road trip with two nerds, come on Hotch.” Morgan rolled his eyes
“Hey!” You and Spencer both say
“We’re not nerds, we’re limited edition weirdos.” You smile
At forensics, you are chatting to the lab assistant, making chat about things, unaware Spencer is getting jealous.
“Just ask her out pretty boy.” Morgan said sipping his coffee.
“No! I can’t… She’s too perfect. I bet she has a boyfriend.” Spencer said
“Hey love birds, so this bomb is the same as the others, the first was done perfectly, but the last one, less so. So, I’m thinking something happened to him or her, and the other two are now working alone.” You say to Morgan and Spencer
Spencer’s cheeks flush at the mentioning of the words ‘love birds’ and phones Hotch with your findings as Morgan phones Garcia.
“Has he asked her yet chocolate thunder?” Garcia asked
“Not yet Mama, soon hopefully.” Morgan chuckled
“Keep me posted my love.” Garcia giggled
“Will do baby girl. Bye.” Morgan laughed and hung up, as Spencer’s cheeks got redder.
A few days have passed, and the case isn’t going anywhere, there is little information and all DNA left at the scene has been too small to get a sample.
“Guys… I think I got something.” You say looking up from the computer you were reading from.
“What is it Y/N?” Hotch asked
“Big new building having a grand opening today, over 1000 people attending. This could be the next one.” You say.
“Let’s go.” Hotch told the team
In the car
“Hotch, if it comes to it, you realise I will want to find the bomb and diffuse it.” You say, feeling the tension in the car.
“Y/N, you can’t risk you own life again.” Morgan said
“1 for over 1000, I’d rather that than my family and all those people die.” You say bluntly.
“You can’t.” Emily says as Spencer nods agreeing with her.
“I will.” You say through gritted teeth.
“Let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.” Hotch said as you arrive into the building.
Outside the building
“Prentiss, J.J, Morgan, you take the left side. Rossi, Reid, Y/S/N and I will take the left. Meet in the middle.” Hotch says as you all nod putting your vests on and holding your guns out ready.
“Ready?” Spencer asks you.
“Yeah, let’s go.” You say.
“FREEZE FBI!” You announce, noticing the un-subs who set the bomb to go off and run. “After them, left stairwell, 6th floor, going down.” You say, “I got this.”
“Y/N…” Spencer began
“Spencer, fucking go. I’m fine.” You say shooing him away.
Spencer nods, not really wanting to leave you and goes after the un-subs with the team.
“You forgot about one thing princess.” You suddenly hear behind you.
“Smith?” You say, recognising his voice. “What the fucking shit?”
“Never were the smart one was you…” He said stomping on your arm and you scream out in pain trying to grab your weapon as he stomps on your leg and starts to tut. “Oh Y/N… So helpless… So innocent… Never could take my punches…” He said as you quickly notice a gap and grab your weapon, as he stabs you in the chest. You take your chance, whilst screaming in pain and shoot him dead then quickly tell the team you are hurt and continue to work on the bomb.
30 seconds until it goes off.
You take some wires apart. 20 seconds left.
“Y/N!” You hear the team call your name.
“Up here!” You call back, as you manage to stop the bomb going off and collapse next to Smith, blood pouring out of your chest.
“Y/N… Breathe… You’re going to make it…” Spencer says scooping you up and putting pressure on the wound as you close your eyes. “You’re going to make it…” He says again as tears go down his cheeks as the paramedics arrive to take you to surgery. “I’m going with her.” Spencer tells Hotch who nods.
“Keep us posted.” Rossi says as Spencer just keeps his head down as Morgan tells Garcia what happened.
“Oh my baby… Please bring her home.” Was all that she managed to say.
You ended up having surgery.
“Dr Reid?” A doctor said coming out in scrubs full of blood.
“Yes.” Spencer says quickly getting up, he hasn’t left the hospital since you went in 5 hours ago, twice to have a stress cigarette and to get a coffee.
“She’s strong that girl. Her heart stopped beating in surgery, but she’s out now and she’s awake if you want to speak to her.” He says
Spencer nods and follows the doctor to your room as he tells the team the news.
“Oh thank God.” Garcia says, “Bring her dessert. She needs chocolate pudding.”
Spencer walks into your room. “Hey.” He says softly
“Hi pretty boy.” You smile.
“Nice to see your memory wasn’t affected.” Spencer says
“If I’d been stabbed 5cm closer. I’d be dead.” You say, “I think my bomb days are over.” You chuckle then wince noticing the stitches.
Spencer sits down. “Are you okay, besides the pain?” He asks giving you the chocolate pudding.
“Yeah, I mean, I got my best friend right here and my favourite pudding. Can’t complain.” You say smiling
“I was really worried for you.” Spencer said
“Me too.” You admit
“Can I ask you something?” Spencer asked biting his lip
“If it’s for a stress cigarette, I already know you have had one.” You say, “We have the same habits Dr Reid.”
“No.” Spencer laughed. “I like you Y/N. I love you actually, more than just you being my best friend… I have for the last few years… Would you like to go on a date with me?” Spencer asked looking down.
You smile, cupping his face with your hands. “I’d love to, but maybe when I’m not wearing a hospital gown and we have an audience.” You say referring to the team all there, and Penelope on Skype, waving at you.
“Audience?” Spencer asks then clocks the team. “Fuckers.” He says as they all come in to hug you and bring you more pudding.
“She’ll be out tomorrow morning.” The doctor said
“Thank you Doctor.” You smile at him
“Don’t do that again Y/N.” Hotch whispered to you, you’re like the daughter he never had. “You saved 1000 people, and we caught the other two un-subs.”
“My bomb days are over.” You assure Hotch and make grabby hands for the pudding Spencer has started to eat.
“Hey pretty boy, better make sure pretty girl gets her pudding or she’ll put a bomb on it.” Morgan said as you all laugh.
“I love you guys.” You smile.
“The feeling is mutual.” Rossi smiled as they all left you and Spencer alone.
“Stay the night?” You asked him quietly.
“I’m not leaving you.” Spencer smiled kissing your cheek and holding your hand.
“I thought you had a thing with germs.” You say
“I make exceptions for my Mum and my date.” Spencer smiled, “Now get some rest.”
“As long as you don’t eat my pudding.” You say as you close your eyes getting the best nights sleep you have had in a long time.
“Deal.” Spencer whispers as he sings you your favourite song, Firework by Katy Perry.
'Cause baby, you're a firework
Come on, show 'em what you're worth
Make 'em go, "Oh, oh, oh"
As you shoot across the sky
Baby, you're a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make 'em go, "Oh, oh, oh"
You're gonna leave 'em all in awe, awe, awe
finally | lee jeno
word count: 1.9k
genre/warnings: fluff, a bit of angst, reader is a bit younger than jeno (three years) !!! just for literary purposes!!!!!!!! also this isnt proofread rofl
authors note: wait,,, y’all hear sumn??? me posting for the first time in three years???? lmfaooo yes im back guys but probs not consistently,,,, oop. since i don’t have school for three weeks i might as well just write?? lmao idk i haven’t written in so long but anyway im still on my nct shit so why not write for my boi jeno? who is STILL the loml? also this is like fully my first non-bulleted scenario hahaha. this is HEAVILY inspired by a fic on deviantart for eren jaeger!
summary: as your 18th birthday is coming up, you realize there is no better time to confess your long-held feelings for a certain someone.
“You’re not 18 yet, it’s illegal, you know.” His expression was serious, contrasting the infamous eye smile usually seen on his perfectly sculpted face. Your lips tightened to a line in determination as you stared at him, eager to at least get some sort of response to your wild confession.
It was dumb, you realize. Going for your neighbour, who you’ve been in love with for as long as you could remember. At first, everyone (including you) just thought it was the type of crush that little girls have on like 20-year old celebrities. However, a three year age gap is really nothing compared to that, and you knew it wasn’t something small when you would see him take out the garbage for his family, or when he would play basketball on the streets with his friends. When he left for university three years ago, you heart crushed, your longtime dream seemed to be over. But he always comes back for the summer, and you realized this summer, there was a chance at anything happening between you two, so you went for it.
“We could be very careful! Plus, I’m turning eighteen this year!” You underlined with a strong gaze. You weren’t going to cry, hell no. Or, at least you weren’t planning on it, not unless you hear him say he doesn’t love you directly. And from what you remember, he hasn’t yet.
“That won’t work. Plus, all my friends know you’re younger than me we couldn’t even keep it some sort of secret, or something like that.” He shook his head, but you seemed to have perked up at what he said.
“Wait, you talk about me to your friends?” A smile was starting to find its way onto your face as you saw the boy before you get a little flustered. You’ve never met his friends, so how would they know who you are?
“Uh, no.” He seemed to have gotten a bit flustered at your statement, now unable to look you in the eyes, finding his shoes a bit more… fascinating. This indirect confirmation was enough to make you smile wider.
You laugh inwardly at his highschool-like-antics. His sudden nervousness bringing out some unknown confidence. “You know, you were the one who told me not to be scared to saying what I think.”
“I said it because I didn’t think you would confess to me.” He justified, making you take a deep breath of disappointment. Well, this was it. This was pretty much the end of everything. And as much as you’d like to never see his face again, Jeno was your neighbour, and it was the summer, so seeing him would be inevitable.
“So, is this a rejection?” Your voice came out smoothly, unlike the nerves taking over your insides. Jeno’s eyes narrowed briefly as he crossed his arms over his chest and watched your expression. He couldn’t tell you how cute you looked as you stood before him, or how your eyes sparkled and made the stars dull in comparison.
“I don’t know. Do you want it to be?” He questioned. Your eyes widened and you faced him, craning your neck upwards so fast a pop was almost heard. The disappointment you felt slowly disappearing as you looked up with bright eyes to your neighbour.
“No!”
"Then? You tell me what it is." His lips curled upwards and he would never know how much you'd wanted to kiss him back then. You took a breath, tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear and stared into his eyes, forming the proper sentence.
The proper sentence. Not too bold, but not too shy. Not too like you, but not too un-like you. Not too detached, but not too clingy. The perfect proper sentence.
“When I turn eighteen, I’ll come and confess to you again.” Not the most perfect sentence, but you were running on emotions, not logic right now. Words were flying off your tongue so fast you wouldn’t even dare to stop them. You looked to the side, trying to avoid his gaze, but your eyes betrayed you and flickered back to him. His expectant yet knowing smile widened, his eyes turning into small crescents. And that was all it took before you, once again, lost control over your words. “And you’ll tell me you love me too!” You almost choked on the words as they left your mouth, making Jeno’s smile turn into a chuckle.
“That’s pretty bold.” He stated, his eye smile shining like a pile of diamonds. Then his hand went through his hair, fingers going through his soft black hair as you dreamt of yours doing so may times.
“You do promise me you’ll say it, right?” Your gaze was penetrating and your lips were pulled back in anticipation. What you were expecting was a nod, or some sort of verbal confirmation. What you got, was neither of those two things.
Jeno’s lips curled up again, his eyes disappearing. “We’ll see.”
Once again, a breath of disappointment left your lips and you sighed in defeat. If he was this adamant on not telling you his answer, he might as well have said no already, instead of continuing to string you along. God, why was this man so annoying, yet so perfect at the same time?
“Promise me!” You partially whined, because of how he seemed to be avoiding everything His hand reached out to ruffle your hair but you pushed it away and stared up at him expectantly. What you wanted was a promise, and he knew he had to give you one, because that would probably be the only thing keeping him from chickening out at your next confession.
“Fine. I promise I will give you a definite answer next time. I’m not promising what the answer will be, however.” Despite Jeno thinking his words would upset you further, they didn’t (he suspected because you already knew he liked you, considering he hasn’t formally rejected you yet).
“Then expect me to be back soon!” You joked, grinning so widely it was like he told you he loved you instead.
Jeno nodded slowly, his chest erupting into butterflies at the fact that you returned the feelings he’s had for quite some time, as he watched you leave his house.
-
“You can come in, you know,” Jeno says as he steps to the side, letting you enter his house. You leaned on his staircase as he did the same against his wall, and although you were confident, there was still a small part of you hesitating. You'd practiced this enough times to know you'd memorized perfectly each and every word you wanted to say, but the mirror never once gave you an answer that could identify with the one Lee Jeno would give you in just a few seconds.
“I’m eighteen now…” You started. Your voice was steady and you tried to look as confident as you could. He stepped forward, coming off the wall and making his way towards you, stopping just in front, as close as he had stood exactly three months prior during your first confession. His gaze was firm as well, but there was something along the edges of his calm features that told you this time may not go as smoothly.
“I know.” He stated casually, not addressing any sort of implication behind those two words, leaving you to dry like a fish out of water.
“So I’m not underage anymore.” You added, crossing your arms in front of your chest as you kept an eye on the male to decided to play dumb, even though he knew exactly where the conversation was going. Jeno nodded thoughtfully and his head was tilted innocently to the side, but his eyes were carefully tracing your every feature and how it reacted to his words. He wanted to test how long you'd draw this out for, but that didn't really matter since the real test here regarded his own restraint and how long it would hold.
“One of the things that comes with it, yes.” He drew out with a smile, making you take a deep breath and stare determinedly at him. And for a moment, Jeno felt like he was back in his thirteen-year-old self babysitting you and your ten-year-old self asked for a snack. This time though, you were eighteen and he was twenty-one, and the snack you wanted was him.
“So--”
“So?” He cut you off, watching your expression gradually turn more and more impatient with every minute that passes by. He was just as desperate for you to get the point as you were, and he wanted to see you reach it.
Your features contorted in mild anger before you took hold of your feelings and calmed down a bit. Only a bit. Your eyebrows were furrowed and your mouth was pouting stubbornly. God, it was so adorable he couldn't help narrowing his eyes at you softly. You looked like such a kid yet at the same time had matured considerably over the years.
“So be with me!”
It left your mouth abruptly, reminding you of how you lost control over your words during your first confession. Jeno softly smiled in response. “That’s not what I promised.”
Your flustered face, and now downcast eyes were enough to remind him not to chicken out last minute. He stepped closer to you, the space between you both getting smaller and smaller. Big, warm hands engulfed yours and you lifted your face to see his. His eyes had transformed into small crescents once again as he stared longingly into yours.
“Before you think this is going where you may think it’s going, let me speak,” he stated, “when you were younger, I never really thought of you that way. You were six, and I was nine. You definitely weren’t in my thoughts at all.”
You grimaced at that.
“But, as time passed, and we grew up, you grew on me. Soon, I started to want to hang out with you, and I would make sure to play basketball when I knew you were back from school so you could see me as you were walking home.” He smiled sheepishly.
“At first I thought it was because I just liked your presence, but when I left for university, and saw your face, I fully registered that I was in love with you. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t come back every summer. You know I only come back for you, right?”
With that, your heart leaped out of your chest, like a firework ready to explode. A smile started to make its way onto your face as you stared at the boy you have loved for so long.
He loves you back.
He continued, “you made me wait a lot you know. It was hard for me to look at you and not kiss you. Especially after your first confession. God, you have no clue what you did to me.”
You leaned up and pressed your lips to his, sighing in satisfaction as he brought his hands to your face and kissed you back. When you pulled away, he brought your face back in and kissed you again, more passionately, trying to convey what he’s been feeling into the kiss.
“I love you so much,” he said between kisses.
“I love you too.”
Finally.
old ghosts
was thinking about this since i decided about making rust an actual plot line, rather than a background npc in the au.
summary: ozai meets the former owner of his favorite jacket, reese has some explaining to do. ship: reezai au: third street firebenders warnings: swearing, mentions of drugs
--------------------------
reese stops talking mid sentence. the joke they’d been telling dies on their lips as their gaze hardens on a lean, leather clad man weaving his way through the crowd toward them.
“that fucking cocksucker,” they hiss. before ozai can ask what’s happening, reese is off their stool and going after the stranger. he blinks in surprise and knocks back the rest of his drink as reese socks the man in the gut and proceeds to drag him towards the back door. as ozai follows them, he can tell the man is allowing himself to be lead, rather than genuinely being pulled along. he kicks the door open just as reese throws him into it, and the two of them go stumbling down the back steps and into the cold winter air.
the force with which reese shoves the man into the alley wall is enough that ozai can hear when his shoulder blades hit the brick. the stranger’s face barely flinches, and he holds his hands up in a motion that seems more resigned and annoyed than it is steeped in surrender.
“you’ve got some fucking balls on you,” reese growls. “bad enough you fucked up four years of my life, you decided to come pokin’ around to fuck up the rest of it? you know what’s gonna happen if someone sees me with your narc ass?”
“i sure hope he does, since i don’t,” says ozai. he frowns, crossing his arms over chest.
“remember when i told you about crash? my ex?” reese asks.
“yes.”
“meet crash.”
ozai blinks.
“i thought crash died in a shootout?”
reese lets out a loud laugh. “right, forgot to fill you in,” they say. “yeah, i found out in our pit stop in laredo that’s actually not true at all! ‘crash’ was a fucking undercover cop, and the whole shoot out was a setup to pull him out of the field. turns out they thought he was having a bit too much fun snorting coke and railing me to continue doing his job properly.”
crash sighs and rolls his eyes. “the shootout was real,” he says. he glances up at ozai, still perched on the steps by the back door of the bar, and regards him for a moment with cool eyes before reaching for his cigarettes. “the DEA didn’t know who i was, but yeah, they used it to pull me. almost died, if it makes you feel better.”
“let’s fix that,” reese hisses.
“no,” ozai says sharply. the steel lining his boots echoes as he takes the steps down. “he’s here for a reason, i’m curious what it is.”
crash leans against the wall and settles his gaze on ozai once more as he exhales smoke out of his nostrils.
“what you think an undercover fed wants with you, pretty boy?” he asks. reese frowns, looking between them. “talk to your daddy lately?”
“you tell me.”
“what does this have to do with azulon?” reese asks. “why would you be wasting time with him?”
“because it’s not wasted,” says crash. he turns his attention back towards reese as he flicks ash off the end of his cigarette. “lots of different branches of law enforcement finally started getting enough dirt to topple that old man, and maybe make some of it stick.”
ozai laughs.
“and?” he asks, grinning. “that’s it? sorry to spoil your fun, but your groups have been saying that for years. ‘find the listening device and wiretaps’ was a game to my brother and i growing up, along with spotting which new kitchen cook my father hired was a cop he was spoonfeeding incorrect information to.”
“maybe, not any more,” crash says. “we’re talkin’ years of info, evidence, all piled up nice n’ neat. all it needs is a goddamn bow.”
“if you have enough information, why show up here and fuck up my life again?” reese asks.
“for the record, my cover is still clean,” says crash, pointing a finger at them. “secondly, we can always use more information, and word on the street is y’all loyalties ain’t what they used to be.”
“do not misunderstand me,” ozai snaps. he closes the gap between them, bearing down on the other man. he has only an inch, if that, on crash, but it is clear he outweighs him. “there is no love between my father and i, especially since he deigned it acceptable to leave me for dead in a warehouse, but there is still respect. i may want nothing more to do with him or the family business, but i will not hand over details about it to the fucking feds.”
“oh, i know,” crash drawls. he flicks his cigarette to the ground and crushes it with his heel. he steps to the side of ozai and points his attention to reese. “but does that apply to both of you? the old man gets taken down, that cushy shield you’ve been existing on the last six years disappears.”
ozai blinks, and also turns to look at reese. their eyes are wide, and they’ve gone pale.
“iroh will just pick up where azulon leaves off,” they say.
“no one knows where iroh is,” says crash.
“what?” ozai frowns.
“week after the two of you skipped out, the prodigal son cleared out all his assets and dropped off the face of the earth,” crash says. a small smirk dances upon his lips. “i’m sure we’ll find him eventually, but for now, that leaves azulon wide open.”
“why would he do that?” ozai asks. crash shrugs.
“he’s your brother, you tell me.”
“you think because we’re out here i’m just going to flip on azulon?” reese asks.
“not for nothin’,” says crash. “i know you. you’ll do what’s in your best interest, and right now, your best interest is flippin’.”
“what makes you so sure of that?” ozai asks.
“because without your old man keepin’ the rest of the world off their ass, reese’ll have to start repaying all those debts they owe.” crash raises an eyebrow at reese. “heard the interest on those is piled pretty high these days.”
reese says nothing. ozai himself is unsure of what else to say.
“i’ll be in town a few days, if you wanna talk,” says crash. he gives ozai a once-over and snorts amusedly. “nice jacket, by the way.”
unconsciously, ozai reaches around and pats the back of his jacket, as if trying to remember which one he is even wearing. it is the worn leather one reese gave him, the one with the emblem and the words IRON CRUSADERS stitched on the back.
realization hits him as he watches crash disappear into the night, recalling the conversation they’d had when reese gave it to him.
“what in the hell is an iron crusader?” he asked.
“it’s a defunct biker gang a friend of mine used to belong to,” they said.
“reese,” ozai says, “we need to talk.”
#reese.fic#reezai au: third street firebenders#ship: the price of your greed#ship: far from any road#technically anyway.#it's mostly the same except not only did i think rust was dead but i instantly lose it when i find out he was a cop
u and sonny broke up a month ago but both of u still love each other. one day he came to ur house with a flower in his hands and asks if y’all can start all over again ( getting back together) *and u MUST say yes* ahahah
You and Sonny met maybe at the wrong time. A charity dinner where he obviously represented his team with other mates and you represented the company you work for. Your headquarters in Ginevra had sent you as their representative and you and the Asian footballer immediately hit it off, both of you were not fond of those dinners but for the good of the team you had to attend from time to time.
And from a pleasant evening where you had kept each other company -pretending to call each other when the conversations around the room got too boring- you had moved on to occasional meetings. You were back in Ginevra the next morning, but almost every weekend you didn't miss the chance to fly to him wherever he was to spend a few hours together.
This had gone on for weeks, you just video calls every night trying to spent as much time as possible together. But the holiday season was approaching, everyone in the office was already competing to book the best days off. Booking dream holidays with their loved ones. And you start wondering if you're one of those couples, if you're a couple first of all. If he, too, is planning something to do with you even though there is practically no time he could spend with you during those days. But especially if he'd like to spend time with you.
The thought torments you for days, in the few times you chat you are distant not having the courage to start the conversation. You start to think that maybe this thing, whatever it is that you have undertaken, is not good. You're in Ginevra and you're not planning to move, he's in London and he certainly wouldn't move for you. You don't know what to do, you know that you could carry on the relationship as you have done until now but you also know you couldn't bear a gap when it's too late and you've fallen in love with the boy.
So you do what you think is most logical at that moment, your last video call just before the end of November.
You can do it, you keep repeating to yourself every day. But the truth is, no, you can't do it. It may be a cliché but being without Sonny is worse than seeing him once in a while. And he was no different, the various games kept him focused on something else most of the day but when he came home it was just him with his thoughts. Always directed at you, if he knew this was going to be your last conversation he would have kept you online forever.
It's January 5th when someone knocks on your door and you go to open it. It could be a neighbor who came to introduce himself. After all, the moving trucks only left two days ago. There are still boxes around the house but gradually it's taking shape, it's becoming yours.
When you open the door, the last person you could have imagined is standing in front of you.
"Hi"
"Hi" you murmur holding the doorknob, you don't remember falling asleep so it's definitely not a dream.
"Sorry to drop in on you like this, but when I saw you the other day it didn't feel real and I followed you"
"You what?" you giggle and he looks down for a moment and only then do you notice the white rose in his hand. Is that for you?
"Do you want to come in?" you ask him the same time he asks "Did you move in?" and you both nod.
"I've been offered a position here in town and I've accepted" he didn't even take his coat off when his lips are on yours. You stay off the record a few seconds before you realize he's actually kissing you and reciprocating.
"I'm sorry" he murmured and then suddenly moved away, "I'm so sorry, it was a sudden gesture and-" and you don't let him finish because you take him by the collar of the coat to attract him back to you. A month may have passed but neither of you has really managed to get on with your lives, and it's more or less obvious when you pull away and smile at each other. The rose has almost flattened between the two of you.
"This may sound crazy but, can we start over again?" he asks with his hopeful eyes.
"Only if you plan not to move somewhere in the next three years"
"Deal"
Vive Ut Vivas - Chapter One
Okay, y’all. I’m not exactly writing material, but I gave it a shot and this was decent enough for me to post it (who am I kidding, it’s trash, sorry not sorry). You can find it in ao3 here.
—————————————
This is an alternate following to the episode One Breath. After Scully is released from hospital, she takes refugee in Melissa’s appartment and they go through the pain of what happened to her. I always thought Melissa deserved better than dying, so this explores her character and her relationship with Scully. She is also the leading factor to Mulder and Scully finally having a decent talk about their feelings, and whatever comes after that.
—————————————-
Sometimes people are the last ones to see what’s right in from of them. Either from fear of the truth or from not believing it could quite be true. But these two are a case to be studied. I’d had a lot of men in my life, but God, they were no Fox Mulder.
I saw how he’d acted when Dana was dying, when hope was only a distant memory to him. I felt the darkness that emanated from him, and if my sister was trapped on a place between life and death, I bet this poor man was likely to be the thing holding her there.
So much to be said to each other. I know my sister more than her own shadow, and Dana was never the best at exposing her emotions to others, especially when they were deep.
“I knew there was a reason to live.” – She said, joking. It’s so good to see my sister smile, even if it’s still a week one. After all we’ve been through these last couple of days, it helps the tension in the room to dissipate a little.
He says his goodbye and touches her hand briefly, but it’s when their eyes meet that I have to hold my breath. There’s so much there: care, affection, hope. I suddenly feel like I’m intruding. It’s not exactly something private, some intimate demonstration of love, but their eye contact shares more than what’s there to be seen. It makes me feel like an outsider just to be around, like they were the only ones in the room and I just entered the wrong place at the wrong time. What was said between them is something I’ll probably never know, but I’m sure they do.
A minute passes by. I notice how Mulder looks nothing of what he looked before; his smile is warm, genuine now, and even Dana shares one or two when he’s around. That is certainly a meaningful exchange.
As soon as the door closes, her mother’s eyes meet hers. She’s noticed it too. If it bothers her, she doesn’t show. A mother always knows – Melissa can almost hear her say. They will save this conversation for later, though: right now Dana is alive and back from the dead, and that’s all that matters after all.
…
When I hear the phone ring, I immediately know it’s her. What surprises me is that my sister accepted my invitation to stay with me for the week, after being released from the hospital. You see, she has always had this terrible habit of closing herself after a moment of vulnerability, even if it was just me there, trying to help. I know it started because of our father, when her rebellious side decided she had something to prove to him, to prove her strong. When you grow up in a house of navy men, you learn to be tough. But I guess I dealt with it the light way and she chose the hard one.
Maybe that’s changing too. – I smile to myself. My apartment isn’t exactly as big and cozy as hers, but the two of us have always found comfort in each other’s company. Besides, it will give me just the opportunity I need to have a heart-to-heart conversation with Dana.
…
As I expected, she doesn’t let me pick her up at the hospital. I’ll let it pass this time, since I’m more than happy with her presence.
Half an hour has passed by when the doorbell finally rings and I hear the thud of her bags on the other side of the door. I rise from my spot on the couch and go open it for her.
“Mel, I don’t know if you made plans for today, but I can’t stay long. I have to present myself to the FBI as soon as possible so they can evaluate me and decide when I’ll be able to return to work again.” – As if to make her point clear, Dana does that eyebrow thing of hers that really annoys me.
“I know, I know. I’ll not step on your toes, sis, as long as you let me make plans for tomorrow. I missed you. It’s not gonna hurt if you spend some time away from Fox and everything to have some fun with your sister, right? – When the word “Fox” reaches her ears I’m sure she took the bait.
“You know, it’s not like that. We’re just partners. If there’s a reason for my eagerness to go back to work it’s just that I want at least a resemblance of my previous, normal life, that’s all.” – Yeah, right, sweetie. She truly believes that, poor thing.
“And the fact that he’s extremely attractive and obviously crazy about you does nothing to change that point of yours, Dana?” – Her eyes dart away from me for a second, and she tries her hardest to fight back a smile surging in the corners of her mouth. Even if she was successful at that, I know her way too much not to notice her signs: she likes him. She just probably doesn’t know it yet.
I remember when we still lived with mom, back when I was nineteen and she had just turned seventeen. At the time, she was into this guy named Paul, who was one of her friends. Whenever I mentioned him she would smile like a kid in a Christmas shop. Old Dana may hide her smile better, but it’s all the same.
“He’s not…crazy about me, Melissa. He trusts me, and we’re friends. Considering what happened to me, he’s happy to see me well again, and probably relieved too. He has this bad tendency to think everything is his fault.”
“Dana, I had boyfriends who cared less for me than he does for you. Mom had to drive him out of the hospital and take him to a restaurant to be sure he would even eat.” – she rolls her eyes at my comment, like she usually does when she wants to avoid talking about something.
“Look, I’m not trying to fight here. I just found you two… intriguing.” – I pose the devilish smile I can get. She can’t help but smile after that.
We stop talking about her partner as Dana guides herself through my place, looking around. She takes her time and then comes back to the couch, where I languidly rest while I wait for her little tour to end.
The floor of the apartment was an old-fashioned parquet with a blend of deep homely browns that contrasted with creamy-colored walls, on which lots of photographs were hanged: there were ones of me, Dana, mom and dad, my brothers and the closest of my friends.
On top of the fireplace, a delicate painting catches her attention – it was a landscape: the coastline jagged, covered by inlets where the water laid still. In the orange-kissed sky, the last vestiges of daylight contrasted with the growing black of cliffs, jagged and folded, shrinking into the distance.
Bursting through the large windows made of glass, she saw shafts of light streaming through the gaps in the linen curtains.
It’s the first time Dana comes to visit me here. It’s been a long time since I stayed in a place for more than one or two months, and after a while, she stopped coming to me and I started going to her place instead. It felt easier for us to spend time together.
When Dana’s finished, she sits next to me on the couch and rests her head on my shoulder. We stay this way for some time, in a quiet, yet comfortable silence. Her hair mingles with mine, leaving a delicious orange sent that probably came from her shampoo.
“Hmm.” – I hear her sigh on my side.
“Dana, can I ask you another thing? And please promise you’ll be honest with me.”
“Fine.” – She complies, defeated. I feel her tiny hand resting on mine, and we interlace our fingers.
“What made you come back? I mean, from the coma?” – I say barely above a whisper, choosing the words carefully.
She takes her time to answer, the thin lines of her forehead contorted in concentration. Finally, she speaks.
“I don’t know. At least, not with certitude.” – I release my breath, and when I’m about to disentangle with her, she holds me where I am. – “The truth is, I’m having a hard time figuring out what was part of my imagination and what was real. The things I’ve heard and seen during my state of coma, it’s all messed up, Mel. When I listened to Mulder’s voice calling me back, I…” – she sighs with frustration.
“Dana, please… don’t. Don’t close yourself now. I’m with you, and I believe that, if you decided to come here, at least some part of you wants me to help you heal.” – I take a strand of her beautiful hair and put it behind her ear, making her look at me. – “We’re sisters and I almost lost you. Please just let us be like we used to, we used to tell each other everything.” – When she meets my gaze, her eyes finally give in, and all the emotions she’s sinking down finally subside into quiet tears.
Rocketman Watch #4 Thoughts
i have so many MORE thoughts can you believe it wow here we go
(i wrote these as i watched it so they’re in order im p sure)
man, his intro monologue during group therapy is just as gripping as it was when I first watched it. And the transition to the bitch is back is so fuckin good. My palms are sweating.
There’s some commentary about forgiving and loving your inner/past child, but I don’t have the words for it at this moment. In the beginning he’s staring down, confused and scowling at his child self, but at the end, he embraces him in a way his father and loved ones never did.
Was he in therapy/rehab WHILE touring and doing music? Stomping into the room in his regalia would have me believe so. I know group therapy was a medium for storytelling. Was it just signaling the very beginning of his story, because we go through different stages through his actions and clothing changes?
Lmao I imagine it must take some pretty cool parents to allow their, like, six or seven year old child to be in this movie. He said bitch so many times.
Took me a hot second to realize the orchestra he’s conducting is playing Rocket Man. The violins are so pretty. Imagine being picked to be in the orchestra on set and getting smile up at the tiny little kid who played Elton. My heart would absolutely swell seeing a little kid being so fantastic at this really intense job.
Kit Connor did amazing in his role. He’s fifteen and he’s already done so much! Imagine growing up knowing you played Elton John as a kid. Getting to work alongside him and his husband and the dozens of incredible actors. Wowie. I’d never shut up about it.
I LOVE how 12 year old Elton is playing the piano SO HARD and is trying to rock out as hard as he can while playing classical music. The boy wanna ROCK dammit.
HE GLANCED UP THE TINIEST BIT WHEN THE MAN ASKED IF ANYONE HAD A FAG (slang for cigarette)
SATURDAY NIGHTS ALRIGHT GIVES ME CONSTANT CHILLS FROM THE START TO FINISH
WOOOW SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD ELTON IS CUTE AS HEEELLLL. The hair, glasses, and front tooth gap fit Taron so well. Goddamn I hope I look like 17 year old Elton some day.
The choreography for this number is absolutely breathtaking. You have to get that many people all in sync! We followed Elton running through the crowd and AAHHH it was a lot! The athleticism! And they did it in the rain! Wow I’m blow away.
Elton is JAMMIN in the back of the stage. It’s really sweet to see his smile and enthusiasm and his brain thinking and working.
That guy in the back peed a LOT lmao
I was wondering where thank you for all of your loving came in.
Charlie Rowe plays Ray Williams, and he also plays LEO ROTH from Red Band Society!!! The first time I watched the movie, I KNEW him from somewhere, but I couldn’t place it and it was driving me nuts. Man. RBS was a big crutch during the worst lows of my ED. Had no idea he was English.
Love to see how shy Elton was as a teenager. It’s a hot ass mood. Also, those silk scarves? Ascots? idk but they’re a LOOK.
“One frothy coffee, no froth.”
The acquaintances-to-best-friends montage set to Border Song *chefs kiss*
Rock And Roll Madonna Is A Perfect Song Send Tweet
Lmao Elton is NOT phased at all when he gets accused of being gay. He’s just like. “Nah. I’m like. Not.” Not overly defensive and surprised, like I’m sure other people would be lmaooo
STUMBLING HOME DRUNK WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND IS A MILESTONE IN TEENAGEHOOD!!!!!!!
“You are a ssSSHHIIIITT HOT piano player—”
So delicate of Bernie the way he politely denied a kiss from him. It wasn’t weird or tense at all. Just a gentle “love you, but not that way. It’s okay” Some people may not be able to handle it that well even today.
Taron’s got nice thighs. That robe & underwear getup is a nice look.
Love love LOVE hearing him experiment with Your Song on the piano to find a melody that worked.
Honestly what the shit do these songs even mean. Bernie sometimes these words don’t make any sense. Don’t worry, they still slap. “See I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue” like what
AMOREENA IS A PERFECT SONG SEND TWEET
Doug flirting with Bernie makes me snort every time. “Oh, really? That’s.. cool.”
THE TROUBADOUR OUTFIT IS GOOD AS SHIT!!!!!!!!
“NO, BERNIE. YOU ARE UNDERREACTING.”
Taron was right. The overalls do make his ass look massive.
A week ago before this movie I was sick and fuckin TIRED of crocodile rock but now I can’t get enough of it. The movie transformed a lot of old songs I was sick of for me.
Imagine being a kind of shy, nervous kid, terrified to go on stage, but two and a half minutes later the entire venue is LOSING IT because they love the jam YOU WROTE. how cool for Elton.
I want a best friend platonic cheek kiss :(
Hmmmmm I’m wondering if they used the studio recordings that went on the album for the movie or have different movie-specific recordings. Tiny Dancer sounds a teeny bit different in the movie version.
Goddamn I sure hope Taron got to keep that jacket.
“So you liked the song, then?” “Not as much as the singer” *Elton glances away in gay panic*
LMFAO John said some weird colorful words to Elton that barely made sense and he was like OH FUCK GOTTA KISS HIM GOTTA KISS HIM
I’ve talked so much about the sex scene I don’t need to go on about it here. Go search the rocketman tag on my blog for my extensive gay thoughts about it.
Now I know glasses come OFF during sex
oh oh oh I was wondering where Hercules fell in the movie. I love how the songs he’s writing or getting notoriety for is played over the transition scenes.
Elton’s hand on his hip, knowing smirk as John enters the studio. “Hello.”
Bernie is like “HELLO are we RECORDING or are y’all gonna FUCK in the CLOSET?”
*vibrating* Honky Cat Honky Cat Honky Cat Honky Cat
Damn, the flowy white button down with the red pants really is a LOOK
The gestures, staring up at each other, leaning into each other, hands on each other’s chests, damn it makes me feel some typa way. Maybe their love WAS good and fun and exciting while they rode the high of everything before it all went so so bad.
Elton searching John’s gaze while he’s talking and looking like he’s not really paying attention, just looking for a kiss on the couch.. GOD I remember the honeymoon phase of my relationships. So much fun.
His dad going “N-Not really my thing.” That was a metaphor for his SEXUALITY TOO, huh.
Damn. He went to his dad’s to come out to him and he never even got to get to that part. He was just like “....nice shoes....” and even after all this time, didn’t show any interest in his music. If he never was into what he did, how could he even talk about being gay? I’m sure during that scene there were a lot of metaphors to sexuality but I didn’t bother to think much about them.
The eyebrow quirk after his dad says “ah—no. Could you make it out to Arthur?” DAMN Elton was like .. “really. This is what’s happening? Okay. Awesome.”
“What do you have to do to get a fucking drink around here, eh?” *cuts to Elton drinking straight from a bottle*
“Elton—” “Elton!”
John saying “don’t you ever put your hands on me” when he was the one who yanked him from the phone booth AND directly after punching him... woof man. What a shitty dude.
Damn, just noticed John talking very quietly and closely to another man right before he goes on and plays Pinball Wizard. Was this the first sign of him having fun with other men when Elton was indisposed?
Pinball Wizard is absolutely intense and loud and fun, but it DOES carry the tone of “god im SO miserable” under it all. You knew Elton wasn’t having fun.
“It is next week.” Jeezus.
LMAO I just caught the “mom, you’re ON my GOWN” when he reluctantly complies to give the Anderson’s a tour.
Damn, flowy, loose dress shirts with the first few buttons undone is a LOOOOK.
How did they do the overdose scene, you think? Surely the pills Taron took had to be like. Empty. Or placebo affect drugs? Idk. He did take a big drink directly after stuffing his mouth with them. I don’t think he spit them out.
God, there is SOMETHING symbolic about how he meets his child self at the bottom of the pool. Rock bottom? Apologizing? Wishing he could be better? Telling him he’ll never be better?
OH I watched a behind the scenes cut about the pool scene, and none of it was CGI. Taron was weighted under his robe and a SCUBA diver was on standby to provide oxygen. The singing and bubbles coming out of his mouth and stuff underwater was all real.
Dying to know about the choreography around the second chorus, about the undressing and twirling and dressing and injection and handing off of the bat and stuff. That sequence was incredible.
Bennie and the Jets. Damn. It fucks. I listened to it almost the entire time on my run today. (Five miles; I felt like garbage the entire time but it was good anyway.) The scene is wild. He’s in the middle of a drug induced haze orgy. He SHOULD be having the time of his life but he’s so goddamn miserable. (Also, the juxtaposition between Chris Fleming’s Bennie and the Jets is so funny.)
Part of the problem was that John never understood Elton. But, Elton broke it off with John, not the other way around like he said it was. He wasn’t the victim in that regard. John did treat him like shit though.
Victim of Love plays right after that lmao
Renate and he aren’t even close when they do the duet to don’t let the sun go down on me. They’re separated in different rooms, mirroring literally how closed off their relationship was.
The shot with them waking up in different rooms.. damn
His shirt is so LOUD I’m going crazy
Watching Taron down that orange juice made me a little nauseous I gotta say
“Not really I’m gAy”
It’s CRAZY to watch Elton and his mom interact at the dinner scene. He gets accosted and accused of so much by his mom, claiming SHE’S the victim of his actions, making it all about HER and then he turns around and does and says the exact same shit to Bernie.
He yells “Oh, don’t be so dramatic!” at Bernie as he gets into a taxi. THE PROJECTION!! THE DEFLECTION!!!!
I know there’s only so much they can put in two hours, but I wish they showed more of Elton’s eating issues. He had bulimia for sixteen years before he got help. It’s Absolutely the Man With Anorexia in me, but seeing that even men deal with eating disorders quells the lonely aching something in me. I feel that much less alone, you know. Eating disorders aren’t a “woman’s disease.”
How do you think they did his hair? A wig adds more hair, not take it away. He didn’t get his hair cut for it did he?
Seeing Elton’s first love fall apart because John was such a selfish, heartless prick in reality makes me sad.
Elton hugs his inner child when he reconciled with everyone in his past. Goddamn. He found peace and forgiveness for himself, who he was, even after all that time.
When Elton asks him not to go, Bernie refuses, saying this is something he had to do on his own. Healing comes from within alone. No one can help you do it. People can guide you, but you have to work at it. It’s fucking lonely sometimes, but it’s so, so worth it.
I used to loathe I’m Still Standing since i heard it so much at work, but the movie changed my entire perspective on it. I love the slow build up as he exits the rehab center. You don’t get thrown into something so happy and fast paced and fun after a cathartic climax you need to drink in. And the pan to his hat with the rainbow stripe to his smile. I get chills every time. Elton feels so right and secure and happy in himself. At first I thought it was a bit cheesy, but accepting your sexuality, especially after all the hell he went through during his life, grappling with unresolved trauma and fear of abandonment, he absolutely should wear it loud and proud. It’s easy to think times are much easier now being gay, and it shouldn’t be such a big deal. Relative to 1975, it is easier. But it doesn’t mean it’s not such a rough personal thing to work through if you’ve been spit on and resented all your life. Being gay, coming out, and accepting and being comfortable with that fact must’ve been such a HUGE milestone in Elton’s recovery and self-esteem.
Love me again after I’m still standing is perfect. The credits make me tear up every time. Jeez. What a good movie. What a good movie. Hit me up if you wanna talk about Rocketman because I absolutely will with you.
This is the first time that I have followed the NASCAR playoffs. Any thoughts on J Johnson’s annoyance at being disrespected by the drivers still in contention? Also, I still don’t get the full racing field thing. If the slow drivers are just in the way of the serious guys, why have them there? How about just letting the top 16 drivers just have it out until the end? Thanks!
Oooh, welcome to your inaugural playoffs!!! It’s been a pretty wild one so far; I hope you’ve been enjoying it. :) Are you rooting for/against any teams in particular??? Who’ve you got pegged for the final four?
I haven’t had a lot of time to pay much attention to what storylines have been playing out off-track, but I do vaguely remember him mentioning in the pre-race last week that he felt that respect needed to be re-earned. But that makes me sad, so I try not to think about it too much. I want JJ to win 10,000 races this season, strike fear into the hearts of men, etc.
As for everyone racing even if they’re not in contention for the championship--I actually had a similar question when I was watching my first NASCAR playoffs! Because I was like, man, this seems like a VERY expensive way to spend an afternoon, y’all. But I think it actually does make a lot of sense, for a number of reasons, some of which are duller than others, haha. Here are some, though by no means all, reasons everyone races even when they’re not in the playoffs:
Business reasons:
In Harv’s words, you signed a contract. Sponsors still want their colors on track.
Your driver, crew, supporting staff, etc. also still need to get paid, and so need to work.
Development reasons:
Especially in years like this, where the rules package for 2020 is going to be pretty much the same as 2019, teams that aren’t in contention for the playoffs have a little more leeway to try out some experimental set-ups and strategies to see if they find any magic that’ll give them a leg-up next year.
Young drivers get seat time, new crew members get practice.
Especially for teams that are still developing, or perennially low-budget, track time matters. It takes a lot of work to build up a team and get it competitive (see: the 95 team).
Racing reasons:
It would be real, real boring watching only 16, 12, 8, 4 cars roll around the track alone. It only worked in Cars 1 because we, the audience, did not have to watch all million and ten laps of that tiebreaker race where NOTHING AT ALL HAPPENED. XPP
Plus, racing only really works if you have a field of cars to work with--no one really wants to watch someone get out in clean air and then gap the field, never to be heard from again. So we need lapped traffic; we need the ability to lose 15 points because there’s a bunch of non-playoff drivers between you and the next guy in contention. We need fights for the lucky dog position, we need the potential for unexpected chaos and inopportune/opportune cautions. Especially with this rules package, which is so aero-dependent, and makes the cars handle so differently in clean air vs. in traffic, and brings side-drafting, etc. into play. If there’s no cars to cause these kinds of conditions, there’s really no race. The backrunners and non-playoff cars are crucial to the sport! They are not #meaningless at all! (#meaningless copyright Denny Hamlin)
And honestly, if you can’t maneuver around lapped traffic and hold onto your lead, you don’t deserve to be a NASCAR Champion, anyway. This is racing, real racing, not turning left.
Plus, even if you’re not in the playoffs, a win is a win. And for a lot of guys, a win is more important than a championship, because a championship was never in the cards for their team in the first place. A win, though? That’d be everything.
And you can spite-win, stealing precious points and potentials to be locked in from the playoff guys, lol. It doesn’t happen often (like, in the last two years, I’m not certain it’s happened more than once...? when Matt Kenseth won Phoenix in the Round of 8 after being eliminated in the Round of 12? I don’t remember any others, in any case) but a win is a win is a win.
The Captain Next Door Ch. 2
Summary: You’re a doctor who also just so happens to be a fan fiction writer. You love lots of fandoms but Captain America is by far your fave, so what happens when you get a new job, move to Brooklyn and realize that the brownstone you bought is right next door to Captain America? Obviously shenanigans ensue.
Warnings: Swearing. Light Mentions of NSFW material.
AN: Thank you guys for all your reblogs, comments and likes. Your feedback is always welcome and I love hearing from y’all. Ok, I think its suuuuuper worth noting that I do not care for or abide by the timeline, there are some people mentioned that haven't technically been brought together yet [ As per Winter Soldier ] but I did it anyway. Also I get that you guys are here for the cap and y/n but I’m just trying to get everything in place before we get into full swing, there will be more next chapter, scouts honor! P.S. I do not currently have a beta and the ‘f’ and ‘u’ keys on my keyboard are messed up so incase you see repeating letters anywhere they aren’t supposed to be feel free to let me know.
Ouch. Things were coming back to you slowly. You thought you heard the faint sounds of a man. You slowly blinked and saw peeling paint off some crown molding of what greatly resembled your living room. You opened and closed your eyes again repeatedly and could hear soft footsteps. Sitting up gradually, you placed your feet on the floor, leaning your head over the neck of your tarp covered sofa and closed your eyes once more. Thinking of all the work the living room had to go through: painting, furniture reupholstering, electrical and God knows what else, you let out a dramatic groan. You would have to call your dad sooner than expected. Either that or you would have to get a contractor because you’re supposed to be starting work in 2 months and there’s no way that you would be able to finish all this work in that time by yourself. You heard shuffling footsteps and hushed tones say
“Yeah it seems like she’s awake now. I’ll update you. Yes Steve. I'll let you know. Alright. Bye”
You shouted out “Who’s in here?” No response but you could hear the footsteps getting closer. You started to panic, you were about to turn into one of your mother’s lifetime movies. Getting a bit louder this time “Look I don’t know what you want but I don't keep cash in the house! There isn’t much of anything for you to steal either, nothing has arrived yet. ALSO THE BUILDINGS CONDEMMED! THERES ABESTOS EVERYWHERE!”
“Honestly, you are quite funny” you heard a voice coming from the back of your home. You quickly calculated that if you were going to be attacked it would be better to be standing, not splayed out on your couch; that way at least you could put up some sort of a fight. Forgetting completely about your little tumble earlier you hopped to your feet.
“Ahhh!” you felt a shooting pain go through your leg and then your head started to develop a dull ache.
“Please be careful! And don’t be frightened.” You tried to turn slowly and he rushed to your side helping you to sit. You gave him what your mother refers to as a ‘nasty look’ and asked suspiciously
“Who are you?”
“I’m sorry, I’m Sam, I’m your neighbor.” He gave you a gap toothed grin and you couldn’t help but relax a little. He extended his hand.
“Okay Samuel from next door. Welcome to my home,”
He chuckled “Samuel is reserved for my parents and the government. My friends call me Sam.”
“Are you saying we are friends?”
“Well I’d like to think so…..” he trailed off expectantly
“Oh, I’m sorry, my name is Y/N” You finally took his hand you forgot about. “I don’t mean to be rude Samuel,” he rolled his eyes smiling “But what are you doing in my home?”
“Yeah.. About that…My roommate and I were walking home and we tried to help you but you insisted you could do it yourself and we should just roll on. I was steady trying to convince you and I guess either my roommate or I said something that really upset you because you spun around so fast and then you started to fall, luckily my roommate caught you and he brought you inside. Do you remember him?” All of a sudden remembering your AC unit you jumped up and stumbled back down grasping at your leg.
“Careful!”
“Sheesh, yeah. I will be.” Quietly examining your ankle. “Great. A sprained ankle. This is just what I need right now”
“Are you sure that's a sprain? You should probably get that looked at by a professional…”
“I’m pretty sure about this. It’s sprained Samuel”
“I’m pretty sure you should talk to a professional” Sam mumbled under his breath. You let out an exasperated sigh.
“Ugh, fine! Please hand me my phone.” He did as you said and watched you quietly. You scroll through your phone. You land on The Bone Man and you shoot Sam an embarrassed look. Meekly laughing you tell him “It’s not what you think” and he throws his hands up in a no judgement shrug. The facetime trill rings 3 times and is answered on the 4th.
“Hey Boner, quick q: A patient comes into the ER after falling off a ladder, presents with minor transient headache, pain in the left foot, presence of swelling, tenderness of the calcaneofibular ligaments, and no bony point pain. Talar Tilt test was preformed and failed. Am I correct to assume a grade 2 sprain?”
“Y/N I don’t even know why you call me for this type of stuff. You’re always right about everything forever and ever until the end of time. Anyway yeah, if you have to hear it from the horse’s mouth, yes, you’re right. 2 Week recovery time, minimum.”
“ Okthanksbaiiii” You said zooming into your smiling face before hanging up. “Humph” you folded your arms and smiled triumphantly at Sam.
“See Samuel, it would be great if you could internalize the wise words from Boner there. ‘I am always right about everything forever and ever until the end of time’ And that's science friend.”
Sam let out a cackle “ Okay crazy, who are you?”
“Dr. Y/FN Y/LN, head of Cardiology at Mount Sinai”
He put his hand up feigning surprise “Oh excuseeeeee me! So you’re the professional that you should see?”
You laughed “ Not exactly, I’m a heart doctor but I do have basic knowledge of the other systems. That's where ‘the Bone Man’ comes in. He’s an orthopedic doctor, he works with bones.”
“Ahh, I see” he says pausing for a while. “So what’s going on here?” He gestured around your home. “ I wasn’t a exactly snooping but I did happen to see most of the first floor. I kind of walk around a bit when I’m on a phone call. There’s tarps everywhere. ”
You covered your face embarrassed. You explained to him how your father convinced you to buy a fixer upper, your relocation from your home state, your recent AC chronicles and how it led you to this moment.
“Speaking of that unit that has caused me nothing but trouble, I’m sure has been stolen by now. I need to order some more. I just wish that I could sleep in the cold! God! This place is hotter than the devil’s asshole.”
“Oh your AC is working and up in your bedroom, although I’m not sure you’ll be able to climb up all these stairs in that condition.”
“Well at least I'll be good as new in 2 days-”
“2 days?! No ma’am Dr.Boner said two weeks!”
“Oh..you heard that did you?” You smiled weakly. “I’m supposed to resume work in about 2 months and this really puts a damper on everything. I was hoping to make some real headway with my house before then. At least get out of this tarp festival and make it a bit into a home.” You sighed looking around.
“Well today is your lucky day Y/N! I’m on a month vacation at LEAST. I work with my roommate and he’s going to be out of town for at least 1 month for some” he paused briefly “out of office business. I can help you fix up your house and I’m sure Steve won’t mind you borrowing his AC while he isn’t here.”
“I could not impose like that Samuel! First off I just met you, secondly You and Steven have done enough by just carrying me and my Air conditioner into this house. I have to decline but I’d love to take you both out for lunch sometime.”
“It really isn’t imposing. I’m a little bit of a tinkerer, I love being handy. Anyway, if you do decide to change your mind, you know where to find me.” He got up to leave and then quickly spun around “But I am going to bring you Steve’s AC and there’s nothing you can do about it” and with that he sprinted out the front door. About 15 minutes later he returned with the ac unit and then ran out the door without a word. He came back this time in about 10 and sprinted up your stairs and you could hear the faint sounds of rummaging. He came back down with the sheets off your bed.
“ Samuel! What is happening right now?”
Trying to catch his breath, explain, and work all at one time he began. “Alright so before you took a tumble we could all see you were really eager to get that AC into your house and so that problem is solved. Now, you can’t get up and down the stairs with ease so here: an air matrass. We have a couple around our house not being used at the moment.” Seeing your eyebrow slightly arch, he rushed to finish “It’s not like we are doing anything weird with them! We just have lots of company meetings take place in our house and sometimes our planning sessions go late into the night and the team just decides to fall asleep where they are, hence the mattresses. I’ll set up the AC and be out of your hair Dr. Y/LN”
“Oh Samuel, Dr. Y/LN is so formal. Dr. Y/FN is fine” You laughed. He joined in.
“ I know you were joking about that, but Doc is it. That’s what I’m calling you”
“So you keep mentioning your roommate Steven, and both of you work together and he’s out of town on business right now. What do you gentlemen do?” All of a sudden very focused on the AC he was installing. He started inspecting the unit closely.
“We ugh…We are in security. We have lots of clients, sometimes that takes us internationally so. Yeah really average joe stuff.
“But you guys have sleep overs?” You lightly chuckle
“Yeah well Steve and I met at the VA hospital, we are both ex military men so usually the next natural progression is security. And since it started with him, he was the *first* so to speak so we naturally gather around him. That's his late parents old building so he kind of grew up in that place. It’s kind of just the default hang out spot.”
“I totally get that. My parent’s house was somewhat the same” you say trailing off.
“Alrighty Doc, This is all set to go for you. I’m gonna get out your hair now” Sam said slightly in a rush to get out.
“Samuel, wait!” You call after him and he breaths out slowly and turns around and smiles openly. “Why are you helping me? You don't know me at all. Are you some type of angel or something?”
He laughed looking down at the floor and then back up at you. “Angel? No way Doc, as my roommate says all the time ‘I’m just a kid from Brooklyn’. Plus knowing him he would have done all this himself if he were here. He told me to make sure you were alright while he had to get away.”
“Hey! Captain America says that all the time! I bet all you Brooklynites say that now. It must be nice to have an avenger from around here, hey! Have you ever seen him?!”
Sam’s smile faltered, “Sorry, seen whom?”
“Captain America!” You exclaimed your eyes bright and shining like a child on Christmas.
“Oh no I haven’t. I don't know anyone who has actually” Just then his phone began to ring and he told you in a rush “Sorry it’s a 911 from my job, I’ll see you around Doc!”
“Thanks for all your help Samuel!” You called after him as he ran out of the house.
The cold air was blowing on you and you were feeling relaxed and thinking about what Sam had said, ‘I’m just a kid from Brooklyn’. Oh shit! You had to check your fan fiction. You looked at the time on your phone, Damnit! You were supposed to be chatting with your graphic designer Rod right now. You hobbled over to your dining table and took out your laptop. Getting online and expecting Rod to be online you logged into tumblr to find a message from him and him absent.
MSG from Rod: Hey Dr.C, Sorry I can’t draw any illustrations for BP, Aquaman or anyone really right now. Work has been crazy, I’ll make It up to you, promise!
MSG from Y/N: Hiya Rod. I totally understand, take your time! Hope things lighten up for you soon, looking forward to hearing from you whenever you can. Take care x
The way you met Rod was a little different. You were looking through the Black panther tags as usual, and there was someone who drew super realistic AU versions of the T’Challa, Thor, Black Widow and even stuff from some comic called Aquaman and other heroes you’ve never heard of. Anyway, you scoured his page looking for anything on Captain America but to your dismay he didn’t draw anything of him. You were very happy with his black panther stuff though, you saw some pics that inspired a couple new fic ideas. You reblogged his pictures for about a month and one day you posted a new story inspired by a beautiful creation of his where T’Challa looked like he was in college. He somehow saw it and contacted you and you both briefly talked about the inspiration behind his art. He talked about how he felt as if he could imagine a different side of our heroes and he wanted to draw that. About 2 weeks later he sent you a picture of one of your previous fics about Thor. The rest was history. He would occasionally draw cover art for your fics and you in turn would give him new and crazy angles to think of the avengers. You even got into some of the comics he recommended for you and gave him new angles to think of Aquaman. Eventually you caved and asked him specifically if he could make something about Captain America and he said he just isn’t inspired by the Cap at all and he also felt the others were underrepresented and he wanted to focus his energy there. As a fellow creative you got it. If he wasn’t inspired he just wasn’t and you wouldn't force him to focus on a subject that he wasn't interested in. You wouldn’t bring it up again and you figured if he ever felt inspired you’d be one of the first to see the pieces.
That night you were able to bang out 3 chapters and sent them to your beta, Jay. Alright, time to make a plan. You decided due to your recent development with your bum leg, you would divide your house into floors and literally work your way from the ground up. You would begin with electrical and seeing as how you didn’t know anything about that and you turned to the master of everything: YouTube. Well, at least you tried to. Youstartedoff with watching videos about how to wire up a house but then you got sidetracked with reality videos and then before you knew it, you were in some foreign corner of the website, watching a video on how to become a sumo wrestler in japan. You looked up and saw that the position of the sun was a little lower than before. Looking up at the corner of your screen you saw the time was 3:30. You let out a yip and closed your laptop like some preteen getting caught looking at something they weren’t supposed to. You gave it up and opened back up your laptop and decided to look up an electrician. Another 30 minutes passed and none of the electricians you found that were available to come within the next 1 month were up to your standards. You finally decided to call up your father for help. To your greatest dismay the whole family was sick. You pressured and even threated him to try to get him to go to the hospital and just get a simple checkup but he refused. You tried to convince your mother of the same and between what truly sounded like a very productive cough she told you she was in tip top shape. Handing the phone back to your dad he asked what was the matter and you were silent for a complete minute. Your house issue was starting to become something of a headache and not the fun little project he painted it out to be. On the other and more important hand you didn’t want to complain. You knew your dad would try to fly sick just to come and help his baby girl. You tried to lie and say it was nothing but he eventually coaxed the truth out of you. You explained about your ankle and needing an electrician. He was overjoyed.
“Ha!” he exclaimed, “I knew my serving this…country would start to benefit me at one point or another. Just a second honey.” You heard shuffling on the other end of the line.
“There it is! Here is Sargent Wilson’s number! I’ll ring him up and give you a call in a few minutes sweetheart.” And with that, he was gone.
While waiting you decided to limp over to your dining room which was covered in boxes. Might as well do something with your time you decide to paint your nails. If you’re going to be open toeing it for a minimum two weeks you might as well try your best try not to look like a cavewoman. You were in the middle of giving yourself a top coat and your phone started ringing. Fanning your feet you answered.
“Hi dad”
“Y/N I don’t know how to work this thing. I took a picture of the paper, like you taught me but then to send it to you has become a problem. I’ve accidentally restarted my phone 3 times and deleted my entire contact list. I can’t do it sweetie.”
“Dad that’s no problem, I appreciate you trying though. Maybe I’ll just start with something else first-” cutting you off he proclaimed
“Just because I can’t do it doesn’t mean that someone can’t do it! Ben- Benjamin! Benjamin! Come in here for a second”
“Daddy it’s fine! Dad! Don’t worry about it, it’s fine!” It took you a couple of seconds to realize he had already stepped away from the phone and soon you received a message from your brother.
TXT from Benjamin: Hey Ugly, dad said I should send you this number 555-3604. You’re the one that wanted to get them iPhones. Now you've moved away and I’m stuck being their geek squad. Thanks for nothing!
You chuckled and sent him a kissy emoji. You heard your father’s voice coming back towards the phone
“…yeah well you would think wiping your ass was more important than sending a textual message but your mother and I taught you how to do that without as much mouth as you’re giving me right now!” You covered your mouth to stop you from laughing too loud and disturbing the whole neighborhood. “ Hi honey, did you get the message?”
“Yes I did Dad, thanks so much, I really appreciate it”
“Anything for you baby girl. By the way I’ve already called the Sargent and even though he won’t be able to come help you out due to prior engagements he did mention that his son is free and would be happy to help you out and the payment is already taken care of, a little gift from your mother and I.”
“Aw thanks dad! Tell mom I said thank you as well. I love you, let me let y’all get some rest”
“Goodnight sweetie!” You heard your mother shout from the background before it was echoed by your dad and then you ended the call. Checking the time you saw it was 4:30. Deciding it was better to text him now and secure the earliest possible date you sent him a message right away.
MSG from Y/N: Good day Mr. Wilson. My name is Y/FN Y/LN, my father and yours are old army buddies. He said I could contact you about any electrical work I needed done in my new house. I wanted to find out your soonest available opening. I have quite a bit of work that needs to be done so I would like to get started at your earliest possible convenience.
You navigated your phone to the music playlist and then started to play Theme from New York New York by Frank Sinatra. You slowly made your way to your window and by now the children had returned from school and the school was filled with people. Children playing in the street, people walking their dogs and teens on their various stoops. You smiled at the current state of your life and felt content, even with a busted foot. Suddenly your music was interrupted. With a dinging of your phone to signify a text message and then your music continued. You walked back to your couch to see who it was.
TXT from Mr. Wilson: Good afternoon Ms. Y/LN, I am available for a meeting tomorrow morning at 10:00 so we can do a walk through and discuss our plans. Does this time work for you?
TXT from Y/N: 10 is perfect!
TXT from Mr. Wilson: Great. What is your address?
TXT from Y/N: 805 Sudbury Lane.
TXT from Mr. Wilson: See you tomorrow at 10:00. 🙂
Smiley Face? That's not very professional, you thought to yourself. You just shrugged thinking to yourself he’s probably some weird hipster guy. You set yourself up on Netflix and closed your curtains settling in for the evening.
The next morning you woke up had a light breakfast and shower and made some iced tea and lemonade for Mr. Wilson’s visit, you were southern after all. At 5 minutes till 10 your doorbell rang. You checked the time and smiled, you liked people who were punctual; as your father always told you: if you’re on time, you’re already late.Looking through the peephole your smile faded and was replaced by confusion, it was Samuel, your neighbor.
“Good morning, Samuel” You smiled at him, “what are you doing here?”
“Morning Doc” He threw his hands up “Just here as a friend. I wanted to check and see how you were doing. So…How was your night?” He tactfully slowly walked towards you forcing you to let him in the house. You arched a perfect eyebrow and laughed and shook your head.
“It was fine, thanks for asking. Nice and chilly.” Glancing at your phone in your hand you saw it was already 9:59. “I would love to hang out with you Samuel but I have someone coming over in literally a minute.” As you were talking Sam put a finger up to stop you from talking while he scrolled through his phone. You watched him, mouth slightly agape. No one ever told you to be quiet. Right before you were able to say anything your phone started ringing and Mr. Wilson appeared on the phone. You then put yourfinger up at him and he laughed a little.
“Hi, good morning Mr. Wilson” As Sam raised his phone to his own ear while you looked on, mortified.
“Hi, good morning Ms. Y/N, now I’m here as your electrician” He wore the biggest shit eating grin. In an instant you were laughing and lightly hit him on the arm.
“Why didn’t you tell me who you were last night when I texted you, weirdo!”
“Well actually, at first I didn’t know it was you because, truthfully, I couldn’t remember your last name, but when you sent your address and it was on my street, I put two and two together.” Remembering the smiley face in the text you just shook your head.
“Alright then Mr. Wilson, let’s get started. Would you like some iced tea and lemonade?”
Looking at you as if you said you had a demon coming out of the side of your neck he repeated “iced tea AND lemonade? Don’t you mean or?”
“No, I meant and. Would you like some?”
“I mean okay sure, I guess” You both silently walked into your kitchen and you poured him a glass. After a couple sips he continued to drink. He kept taking bigger and longer sips and before you knew it, he was completely finished.
“I mean, it was allllright. Nothing to write home about” He tried to say nonchalantly “Mmhmm, sure Samuel, let’s begin.”
“After you” He gestured following you throughout the house.
Over the next 1 hour you both walked through the 1stand 2ndfloors and you explained what exactly you needed from him. You let him go up to the 3rdand 4thfloors alone as your foot started to feel strained. He came back down to the 1stfloor and brought out a list and you created a game plan. All in all the project would take about 1 month.
“Well, I’m good to start today if that’s what you want”
“Of Course! You could have started yesterday to be honest” You laughed.
“Let me get my tools and I’ll get going”
You brought out your laptop and were looking over emails messages and then you came across a new fic with pictures of the cap you’ve never seen before. It took everything in you to not bear the pain of getting all the way up to the 4thfloor to get a better and more intimate look. You went back to doing work and looking at samples for the interior of your house. You knew you had to have a bomb kitchen because you loved to cook and bake. You also needed your office to be set up nice because you would spend most of your time in there between work and writing. All the while Samuel was buzzing around the whole house and after a point you stopped following him around and just decided to work from your living room. Half your screen was split between emails and the other was pictures and gifs of the captain as you called him in your mind.
“Soooo…What’s the deal with him” Sam said from behind you. You looked back at him and he was looking at wires on your wall.
“What? Are you stalking me now?”
“I should be asking you that Doc” he laughed “ Every time I come in here I see him on your screen.” Thinking fast you replied
“I just love the avengers, I think they’re so dedicated and brave. They really did an amazing job of saving the world.”
“That's nice…but I’ve only been seeing one particular avenger…” the sound of laughter on his voice.
“I mean…He’s so brave. And heroic. And valiant. And genuine.” At this point you were more speed rambling and talking to yourself than replying him. “And those eyes. Have you ever seen anything so blue? Was that part of the secret formula? And those arms. He looks like he could rip Florida off the continental united states and to be quite honest he probably should I mean what even is Florida? And that ass? Don’t get me started on that ass. Ugh I want to take a bite-” You suddenly halted like a freight train just crashed and your eyes go wide. Slowly you turned around and give Sam a bashful smile. “He’s just so brave” you finish.
Barely holding back a big belly laugh Sam just nods. “Yeah Captain Blue eyes is sooooo brave.”
“Anywayyyy, tell me more about yourself?”
“Well as I told you I’m ex military. Most of my life is work and if not working with my roommate then im working with my dad at his business. Believe it or not all this fixing stuff up is a hobby for me.”
“That's interesting. So why not do your hobby for your job? Why do you do security with your roommate? Steve, I think you said?”
“Yeah, good memory. When we met we were both in a kind of weird place. We weren’t sleeping much and you know…War kind of just…it does something to you. Anyway we would run together – or should I say I would try to catch up to him, while he ran like lightening and then started going to group therapy together. Eventually we started hanging out outside of exercise and therapy. We were both kind of solitary and I guess the company of someone who knows what you went through and are going through is nice. We have basically been like that since then. He’s seen me through some dark times and tough days. I’m proud to say I’ve done the same for him as well.” He was quiet for a while “As for my dad, like I said I love fixing up stuff. I feel like if I started to officially do it as a job I wouldn’t love it as much anymore.”
“Understandable, completely. And I’m happy you found someone you can share with and that you feel gets you.” You smiled at him. “ Thank you for sharing with me, Sam.”
You heard a loud gasp and turned back to see him with his hands on the side of his face like the kid from home alone. “If I had known all I had to do was share my past trauma with you to get you to call me Sam, I would have done that yesterday!” You laughed shooed him away.
This is how your life continued for the next 2 weeks and by the end of the second week Sam was officially your first friend in the big city. At first, it started by him just being there while you were prepping for dinner one day. You initially asked if he would want to stay for dinner and he said he couldn't impose and would soon be done for the day. About 30 minutes later, the aroma had filled the whole first floor. He stuck his head in and mentioned he was about to take off yet made no move to leave. You looked at him with smiling eyes and made up a plate.
“I know you don't want to impose but let me give you at least a to-go plate”
Although his mouth was saying ‘no, I possibly couldn't’ his hands were completely out stretched and he was in your kitchen faster than a speed devil. From that night onward he always ate dinner with you and you both chatted about everything. You told him how you became a doctor. One night in particular after a wonderful southern meal complete with mashed potatoes, greens, ribs, beans and mac and cheese you were both relaxing on your couch. You were mindlessly scrolling though things to watch and he mentioned that he might need to get his roommate’s AC back sooner than expected, Steve was coming home earlier than expected.
“You’ve been more than generous Sam! You can take it back today if you need to”
“Nah, it’s no biggie Doc. You know what? I’ll probably have him come pick it up himself if he needs it.”
“Are you sure? I should have about 1 week on this leg left. I have been able to make it up to my floor now.”
“Sure thing. If he really wants it he’ll come and get it. By the way I’ve been kind of bragging on your food and taunting him that I’ve been eating home cooked meals and he hasn't… and he has kind of wants to try some of it himself” he rushed out looking sideways at you.
“Of course Sam! I’ll cook for you guys this Friday. What do you think he’ll like?”
“What we just ate was perfect , do you think you could do something like that?”
“Sure” You smiled at him. Within you, you knew you actually missed cooking for lots of people like your family back home. Cooking for 3 was a less than cooking for 7 but you would take whatever you could get. You wished him a good night. And packed him a plate for himself.
Logging in to Tumblr you saw one of your favorite fanfic authors updated one of their stories. The depiction of a smutty scene had you biting your lips and you decided to go upstairs. When you got to your bedroom you laid down and just decided to re-read the latest chapter, before you knew it, your hands were roaming your body and you were starting to feel a heat build up between your legs. You pinched at your dark nipples, enjoying the brief pain and then wash of pleasure. Imagining the captain’s hands in place of yours you stick a finger, and then two into your heat. Pumping in and out you are undone in minutes just thinking of the picture that was painted for you in that story. You sigh looking up at the ceiling in the dark silence of your room.
“Ugh I need to get laid, and soon.” With that, you closed your eyes and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning you were up and decided to head over to the grocery store and pick up all the ingredients that you would need for tomorrows dinner. Even though you were more than happy to cook for Sam and his roommate, you felt the slightest bit anxious. You were proud that Sam talked you and your food up but now you felt as if you had a bit to prove. To prove that Sam was justified in praising you the way that he did.
When you got home you decided to start marinating the ribs so at least they would get a nice season before you ended with grilling tomorrow. Sam stopped by later in the evening to drop off your favorite ice cream and you both chatted on your stoop for a few minutes. After a while you went in and decided to get an early night.
Friday came and you jumped out of bed. You checked your emails as usual and facetimed your family. Explaining you had guests coming over for dinner and you had to get off the phone soon. Then you switched over and checked on your subbies and played around until you realized it was 3 and you had to get cooking. You decided to add fried chicken to the menu because, why not? Was it really a southern meal without that?
At 6:30 you had a shower and decided to do yourself up a little bit. You wanted to make a good impression seeing as how it was your first time meeting the mysterious Steve. Deciding on a cute summer dress, you had your hair in a cute updo and just did a little tiny wing on your eyes and added mascara. You did add a little blush because you loved the way a bit of rouge complemented your dark complexion. Adding lip gloss to your lips you heard the doorbell ring. You went downstairs and opened it.
“ Doc, it smells aamazing in here! And...” He looked you up and down and with a your head down and a smile on your face, you gave him a small twirl “and you look amazing as well. Doesn’t she look amazing Steve?” He moved to the side and saw the man behind him. Your smile immediately vanished and you stopped spinning. You were staring into blue eyes that could make the ocean herself jealous.
“She absolutely does, Sam.” With a smile that could bring anyone to their knees he stretched out his hand for you to shake and he continued, “Hi I’m Steve, nice to meet you.”
You looked down at his hand and then up to his face. You then looked at Sam who had the stupidest smirk on his face and then back down to CAPTAIN FUCKING AMERICA’S hand. You repeated this loop about three times before getting a hold of your neck which you were certain was bucking like a mechanical bull with a faulty circuit. You let out a shaky breath and tried your best to sound calm.
“Hello Steven,” You managed “I’m Y/N, nice to meet you as well. Welcome to my home.”
