If you are I had a question, if not feel free to disregard this message. I know there was a way to have your patrons link through to Itch, but it stopped working for me and I've received no help from Itch about this. Is there a way to secure content better? Currently my patreon content is uploaded on a piracy site starts with a K. I've sent through a DMC takedown but have yet to hear back about that as well. They really make it hard for those of us whose content is stolen to report it, asking for dar too much personal information.

Unfortunately, pursuing DMC takedowns or alternatives are not often fruitful or take too many resources to pursue in earnest for a single IF developer.

You need to decide how much time and energy is reasonable for you to devote to reporting. Do what you can to discourage pirating within your game's fan community, do what you can to make it harder to pirate. If you can find the person leaking your content, block them from your Patreon.

But the fact of the matter is that if people really want to pirate your work, they will continue to pirate it. I can register copyright with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and that may protect me in court, but it will not stop people from ripping the alpha build off my Patreon and uploading it elsewhere.

In most cases, the people who are stealing your work were never going to support you monetarily anyway. They represent a very, very small fraction of your player base. It sucks and it is going to suck, but at a certain point, the best thing you can do is to ignore them and pull focus away from them.

Plagiarism Somerton

I obviously didn't watch the new James Somerton apology video ON his channel because I did not want to give that man the views and you shouldn't either! It has been re-uploaded and summarised elsewhere so that he doesn't benefit if anyone wants to see it.

The original hbomberguy video was wild to me because of all the stealing, I found it highly entertaining, loved all the Memes and it honestly did my imposter syndrome wonders! but then I watched the Todd in the shadows video and it really upset me.

He didn't just steal from other LGBT creators he lied to his mostly young LGBT audiance who were looking to an elder gay for guidance and to learn about their history.

Todd's video starts with a clip of James lies being spread by another person on a podcast, there's clips of people discussing his made up gay nazi fanfic he has presented as hard facts. He actively harmed his own community for cash! There are young gay men bringing that subject up in conversation being laughed at for falling for it and that leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Now I'm not a part of that community but a lot of people I love are so that angered me a lot.

...and then he comes back with another apology video, conveniently within the three months he would have had to post something on his channel to retain his monetisation status weirdly?! In which he blames both a head injury and his ADHD for his theft - at no point does he address the lying in either apology video or any of the apology posts he made that I could find.

I have combined ADHD, when I was first diagnosed the NHS referred to it as ADD with Hyperactivity element but everyone seems to have gone back to calling it ADHD and that is the term used most commonly online so that is what I refer to it is as.

I am medicated but there has been a world wide shortage of my medication and I was without it for some time over winter, which was HELL! I got nothing done.

I am in no way a big creator, Youtube for me is a fun wee hobby that will hopefully grow and allow me to collaborate with other people with similar interests but ADHD is for sure a large part of my journey as a creator.

I've published like 7 videos and currently have around 10 being worked on because, you know... ADHD! *siren noises*

I know that I am forgetful sometimes, just for the record I also had several head injuries and concussions as a child because Lil undiagnosed at the time me truly had no fear of climbing or other dangerous activities so I have my script (because free talking a subject with this brain would be nearly impossible) open in one google doc and my research open in another. That's the way it was at school, college and Uni too. James claims he went to Uni to do business. Every university uses anti-plagerism software for essays and has done since like the mid 2000's? so he knows not to copy pasta. He's straight up lying there.

Another thing he's lying about is his ADHD making him forget he copied things. Now if you tell me a joke that I like it'll stick in my head and I will straight up tell it as my own later, I've been called out for this many times! But entire articles? whole sections of other peoples videos? (he also flipped a fan Vid he had ripped off of another YouTube to avoid detection and tried to pass it off as his own) No that's not something you can accidentally do even with a swiss cheese brain like mine.

Weirdly all the the paragraphs James claims he accidentally copied were also edited to remove aspects of the Trans, Bi and Ace experiences that James markedly does not believe exist. Strange considering he accidentally copied them and assumed they were his own words? Imagine going back through a paragraph you think you wrote yesterday in the edit the next day and finding swarths of things you don't agree with there?!

Why am I telling you all this? Well because I wanted to put my two cents in as a creator with this condition, partly because I felt it was somewhat of an attack on us!? He's put it out there that ADHD creators are liable to steal from others and that's not ok by me. Also I just really like the sound of my own typing!

Alfons picks up on what she says, and he asks if she’s referring to bedroom play, and after she denies it, the other guys chime in. Roger says they seem so happy everyday that he didn’t expect that to hear that from her; Harrison says he thought things were going well too because they’re always making out; Liam says that Crown has been brightened by this aura of happiness, and Alfons adds that their happiness has even seemed to poison Jude. “So what’s the problem?” Elbert asks.

She says that most of the things Ellis wants to do is what she’s still happy to do, Roger and Alfons are confused, so she explains that he’s always agreeable and never complains. Really she is worried that he is just “putting up”, with her. As the guys start to chime in, Kate finds out that Ellis is standing in the room behind her (apparently he heard their conversation.) So, when she says, “welcome back”, he tells her that he likes that, and in the following days during various activities, such as waking him up in the morning or when they are eating gelato with Jude, Ellis will tell her when he likes something.

The gelato scene is quite funny because after he tells her he likes taking a break from work with sweets, Jude is like: “What’s that? I like it, I like it. Ya keep sayin’ that.” So Ellis tells Jude that he is going to steal a bite of his gelato, (in case you don’t know, this is something Ellis does regularly with Jude. It was mentioned in a previous story event).

Jude: Oi!

Jude’s eyerbows furrow as his gelato is robbed from him

Ellis: I noticed that when Kate told me. Maybe, I’m a bit of a prankster.

Jude: I know. (lil’ eye roll Jude.)

Kate is actually jealous of their relationship because Jude knows more about Ellis than she does, so she asks:

Kate:…You won’t steal from me?

Ellis: ….

Ellis: I like that too. You’re jealousy.

Ellis whispers that into her ear almost causing her to drop her gelato, but Ellis takes a bite of it and just laughs.

Later on, she and Ellis get caught in a rainstorm while out walking on the hill top, and she’s worried that at times like this, maybe he’d rather be running around (like he used to with his brother), so she suggests a race. She starts running hard and Ellis easily catches up to her, and asks her what’s with the race all of a sudden, seeing how easily he caught up to her, she runs harder and trips over herself, but Ellis catches her and they land (?) on each other.

Ellis holds her in his arms and guesses that she suggested the race because he had told her that he liked to run previously. She fesses up that that was her intention, but she failed at it and apologizes. Ellis tells her that he likes running with her even if it’s not at full speed, whether it’s hand in hand or in his arms.

While she is happy, everything Ellis seems to like is designed to please her and it bothers her, still her love for him grows and when she wraps her arms around him tightly, he tells her that he likes that too. He tells her that he also loves how she smells good and rubs the tip of his nose to the nape of her neck, it causes her to feel tingly, so she kisses his forehead and tells him that she loves him, and he says, “I love you too,” laughing happily.

After dinner at the castle, Ellis dries her hair after a shower and asks her why she wanted to know what he likes, mentioning he heard Al say that he wants to be naughty. Kate clarifies that she knows Ellis is slowly learning to become more selfish, but she still thinks that he’s holding back.

Ellis says that while he does have the habit of putting another person ahead of himself, he wondered if she would be surprised at how selfish he could be? Kate exclaims that if there’s anything he’s holding back, he just needs to say the world.

Ellis: Yea…..okay, this way.

Ellis pulls her by the hand to the bed and pushes her down on it, and he whispers into her ear that he’d love to hold her until the morning. He says that Kate always gets so “squishy” that he has to hold back, and when he thinks she’s going to deny him, he puts on this puppy face frown and asks, “..No?” Of course, NO ONE could say no to that face and she gives him permission.

He promises to make her feel good. (That’s literally all that happened.) The next morning they wake up in bed, her hair messed up from him railing her all night. Ellis strokes her with his long fingers, and then says sorry for going so hard on her, and Kate believe the guy who was looking at her with so much concern is the same guy from last night. (Bro, WTF? I want that scene please!)

She tells him that it’s okay and that she is happy. At first, he is shocked and then he smiles and says that this might be his most favorite thing of all. “This?” she asks.

Ellis: Kate you look so happy even though you can’t lift a finger.

A hint of dark desire flickers into Ellis’ smile. She could feel Ellis’ love her that was both sweet and distorted to it’s core, which made her skin tremble.

Kate: Ellis, you really are a troublesome lover.

Ellis: I think you’re the one who’s made me so selfish……and you think I’m the troublesome lover?

Kate: …..Guess we both are.

The wrap their arms around each other and enjoy the sunlight filtering through the window.

Ellis: You don’t mind me being a troublesome lover?

Kate: Nope. Annoy me more and more.

I am so entwined in your love that I can’t move. Tomorrow too, let’s enjoy everyday filled with “love” together!

Friendly reminders:

Saying “inspired by works on Tumblr” and copying and pasting word for word the work that belongs to an author is not your work and is stealing.

Copying and pasting (aka stealing) work from another author then saying ‘credit to the owners’ is still in fact fucking stealing

Taking another authors work but changing the characters name out to who you want and uploading it to whatever social media platform, is still in fact fucking stealing.

You have no right to attach a copyright claim to your work when that work is not yours.

Respect writers. We do not set aside our energy and put in hours of work just for you, in a couple of seconds, to copy every single word and upload it elsewhere, and have the audacity to ask your ‘audience’ for feedback or comments. Fuck you.

If you are a minor stealing the work of another author on whatever platform, you will still be held accountable just as much as any adult would. You will be put on blast, you will shamed, you may be blocked, you may have your account taken down etc. there are always people looking out for each other in the writers community so we will always know.

If you steal other peoples work, just accept the fact that you’re boring and unoriginal and that you hold absolutely no aptitude for writing whatsoever. I actually get second hand embarrassment from people who steal others’ work.

Code Secret Santa - Rules 2024

General rules

Once you have signed up, your match will be sent out by the 1st of December. Please reply to the email to let us know that you have received it.

Please meet the deadlines!

If something does come up and you can no longer participate, let us know as soon as possible, so we can arrange a new Santa for your recipient.

Seriously. If you can’t participate anymore, let us know! We’d much prefer to have people formally drop out than to never hear back from you.

If you change your username/URL during this event, please let us know. It can be difficult to figure out who you are and tag you in your gift if the information you provided us is no longer correct.

If you dropped out of the exchange in a previous year without notice, you are not allowed to participate this year.

This is one of only two reasons your application may be rejected. The organisers will not show any bias towards participants; this event is open to all Code Lyoko fans. The only other reason we’ll reject your application is if you haven’t read the rules. How are you supposed to prove that you’ve read them? Well, read on and find out!

If you need an extension please ask so we can notify the person about the delay.

If you ask for an extension and later find out you can’t finish your gift, please let us know. Otherwise, we’ll count you as having dropped out and you won’t be allowed to participate in future Secret Santas.

Please don’t put off making your gift until the last second. People are working hard for you and everyone else, so have fun and spend time on it.

We don’t like having to chase people up so again, please contact us as soon as possible if you need to drop out or get an extension.

Gift rules

On the sign-up form, there are four specified mediums and an “other” option.

Art refers to something that is hand-drawn (digitally or traditionally) and does not include graphic art. Art gifts should be completed and finished. If drawn traditionally, a scan is highly preferred but if this isn’t possible, please take a photo with good lighting.

Fanfiction should be 1000 words minimum. There’s no maximum. If you would like someone to proofread your fanfiction, mod @a-queenoffairys will be happy to do so (unless she’s your recipient, in which case you’ll need to ask elsewhere).

Video should be at least 45 seconds long and uploaded in good quality.

Graphic art is a work that uses official images from the show such as renders and screenshots, and/or other pre-existing images that can be found online. Examples of common graphic art gifts include mood boards, icon sets, forum packs, profile backgrounds, desktop backgrounds, blog headers, etc. If you’re going to be doing graphic art as a gift, we strongly suggest anonymously asking your recipient which of these they would be most interested in or find most useful so that they can get the most out of your gift to them.

The “Other" option can be used to put your own ideas for gift mediums. Examples include handmade crafts such as sewing or needle-felting.

If your gift is hand-crafted, your submission to us should be a photo of it.

If your gift does not meet the requirements we will ask you to fix it.

NSFW gifts are not an option. Please keep your gift SFW.

Your work must be new.

How to turn in your gift

Your gift must be posted on the blog you specified in the sign-up sheet.

Regarding the Wider-STall-Door-w-custombars... Please note this noob was unable to make the bars look any nicer no matter how hard she tried. They're lacking in shades etc as I was unable to make them recolorable (fought with UV mapping and everything but too much of a noob to make them any better). BUT they do change shade alongside the main door's metal parts so you can recolor them alongside the door like that. IEQ-Sims4-Wider-Stall-Door and No bars-door has correct shadows too, the custom bar one still has the original EA mesh shadows."

What type of content would they do?

Demetri Alexopoulos - he would make DnD videos and reconstructing old computers with Eli. he would also give out suggestions like which PC is the best for different varieties. he might do some other gaming content but it’s not that popular as him tearing apart an old computer.

Miguel Diaz - he might do some vlogging with Johnny around the state of California or elsewhere, but he’s not clickbaity like some of the other YouTubers who would lie to their audience where they’re at. occasionally he would make an appearance on the other’s YouTube channels as well.

Robby Keene - he would upload gameplay from horror games or his reaction to new horror movies coming out. he’s a big horror and thriller enthusiast and, he got popular by playing Amanda the Adventurer. he would even play the games that his subscribers suggest in the comments of his videos.

Anthony LaRusso - he would also upload gameplay but it’s more of every single type of game since he doesn’t have a preference for a gaming style though he does have a consistent schedule when he’s posting. there will be a couple of live streams of the same game and he would make a playlist for that specific game.

Sam LaRusso - she would either be doing vlogs, book reviews, or have interviews (like a podcast). she would have Demetri, Eli, and Miguel over a lot for the podcast episodes where they’ll talk about a tv show and their opinions on it. for the book reviews, she has a wide variety of book genres for her viewers just in case if they’re not a big fan of horror or thriller like she is. she would have a consistent schedule as well so her viewers would know what day is for what.

Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz - most of his content is clips of the DnD campaigns and Sam’s podcast episodes, or that he makes a little bit of content by vlogging but that’s all to his channel. he tends to promote Sam’s channel a lot more because she uploads more frequently than Demetri does.

Kenny Payne - he has thought about making content but he didn’t want anyone to know that he was going to make some so he decided on making a VTuber model. he’s more comfortable playing with the model than showing his face (and Anthony found out about the model. No, Anthony didn’t tell anyone that Kenny had a VTuber model surprisingly).

Tory Nichols - she randomly pops in on Sam’s podcast episode to say a quick hello before going into Sam’s bedroom to sleep or whatever it is that she does in there. she doesn’t make content on YouTube because she doesn’t understand the jest of it.

The rumors about them:

Sam is either dating Miguel, Eli or Miguel and Eli

Demetri and Eli had a fling at some point

Tory is secretly a LaRusso somehow with “facts” to prove that she is

Anthony (Tony’s World) and Kenny (SGT Ramble) are friends or that they’re dating

Hi! I’m sorry if this is a really boring question, but if you don’t mind getting into the more technical/legal side of things, what licence do you recommend that a indie dev takes for their game? Like so you don’t end up with people stealing your art and selling it </3

Now, disclaimer that I'm not exactly a legal expert. However, I assume you're coming to me about licenses because you're looking to upload your game on itch.io? (Congratulations if you made it to this step by the way!!)

The licenses listed on itch.io's page are more about redistribution. For example, if you're uploading custom code/assets on itch.io for other people to download and use in their own projects, you might want to apply a specific license that tells others what they're allowed to do with the code/assets after they downloaded(like if they're allowed to change anything, etc).

You wouldn't really do this for a complete, consumable product.

If you really wanted to add a license to anything you make, you could add "All Rights Reserved". But that's more of a formality as the second you make something, you own it.

While you can't physically prevent someone from trying to steal your work, there's no extra steps you need to take to try and tell them they can't. Once you make something (art, writing, code, a game, etc) YOU own it. And if someone tries to steal it, they don't have an excuse unless you gave them explicit permission to take it.

For example, I've had people reupload INMIMB onto itch.io once it got popular (I don't understand why as they weren't charging for it and the game was already free, but whatever). I emailed itch.io linking the stolen game pages and my own game page, where they could clearly see mine was uploaded first, and they removed the stolen game pages.

INMIMB wasn't listed under any license. But because I made it, I have copyright over it, I own it, and they did not have the right to steal it--so the reupload pages were removed.

Of course, you still might not be able to prevent it from being stolen or shared elsewhere, but know that your game still belongs to YOU and you don't have to apply any extra license to it to try and protect it. It's already yours.
