some thoughts on things

you know bluntly, i think a lot of people just fundamentally do not understand the cost of producing stuff and how little creatives often make after everything is paid for. a lot of creatives, for example, fund getting prints, books, zines etc printed from their own purse and it can be very expensive. this means that on top of the cost of initial materials and labour in making the thing that is then reproduced, they have to cover reproduction costs and that means, sorry, that there is a base price they have to charge for these otherwise they're going to make a loss overall. if an artist is lucky they might have a successfull kickstarter or gofundme that helps to pay for production costs, but a lot of smaller artists who don't have the audience to crowdfund these things are just stuck dealing with the costs themselves. hell a lot of artists end up eating the cost of shipping too because it's so easy to calculate it incorrectly and post offices love to upgrade you to the next higher postage price if they can, especially on international shipping

selling digital products like ebooks obviously cuts down on these costs ofc, but there's still the factor of labour and time spent creating. artists have to live and their time isn't free. if you really believe that artists should be fairly compensated for their labour you are just going to have to accept that this means some art and other creative delights cannot always be free or even low cost, not while we live in a world where people need to eat and pay rent

The fangame devs are very talented the game seems fine from what i hurd! They did take creative liberties but its still very much gatos characters, I think they where respectable with them even in the contex of said game! . But i find it weird that the post says fanart for their fan game is appreciate ( at least in the English post i found prompting it) fan art of a fan game is confusing and i see how some ppl might mix the two up! Have you heard about the sailormoon pink aged film "controversy" basically we westerners got an aged and pinkified version of sailor moon on vhs/dvd/blu and how some ppl prefer it to a cleaner brighter original version found on old LD and original broadcasting.

Yes, I did hear about this controversy! It was on Twitter, right? For anyone who's curious, there's actually a Know Your Meme page about it.

Basically, some film aficionados argued that the pink version Westerners got was inferior to the original, brighter version. Some even saying that preferring the pink version is objectively wrong. A lot of SM fans pushed back and said the pink version is nostalgic to them and that it doesn't really matter what color people prefer.

I'm gonna have to side with 90% of the Sailor Moon fandom and say that I like the pink version and don't see why this is a controversy. To me, it's a really interesting look at how a "defective" product can still be beloved and preferred by people. I also feel like the pink, subdued version lends a dreamy air to the series and is pretty charming.

To be fair, I also see people arguing that this is indicative of a bigger problem, which is Toei being lazy and ineffective about properly archiving their series. Which I do think is a very valid criticism; after all, it's why the Viz BDs don't have great video quality. I'm someone who is passionate about archiving and preserving media, so I get it. I just think people are also allowed to prefer the pink tinted version.

NOTE: All ppl mentioned are the characters not ccs! And all of this is simply interpretation :)

The whole Foolish and Cellbit convo was super interesting, because you can tell Foolish has a different reason for asking his questions. Foolish is super cryptic when he wants to be, and usually likes testing the waters when it comes to doing future actions which is what makes this conversation so interesting! What makes it better is that Cellbit definitely knows theres something behind Foolish's words and questions, but wants to also know more about Foolish in general to kinda predict what he may do in the future in connection with the feds.

FOOLISH: "When I helped you with the castle.. (...) Was I a bad guy for that?"

This question is so interesting, at least for me. Because this means Foolish is curious what Cellbit's morality is, what he views as right and wrong. This also may shed light to Foolish's own moral compass, and also implies him trying to comprehend what others think about certain actions that may consider as controversial. He's trying to find out what others may think if he did something similar, helping a dubious figure that is considered a 'bad person'. This also maybe him trying to confirm Cellbit's full opinion on the federation, especially in terms of someone working with them, whether to infiltrate or side with them. He further tries understanding Cellbit's POV even more! Asking him that despite him fully knowing that Cellbit was a part of the feds, would that consider him bad? Cellbit answered with no, telling Foolish what he thought of him, telling him he thinks Foolish didn't necessarily knew the full consequences of his actions when arresting Pac and Mike, and was simply doing it for fun.

Technically not wrong, but not fully right. He was definitely doing it for the shits and giggles, but also for Mr. Mustard, even more is that he's always curious how people and the feds will respond to certain actions. He definitely knew some of the consequences but not all, especially the intense revenge of Tazercraft.

FOOLISH: "But, what if I do it again?" ('it' being arresting people or doing other tasks for the feds) CELLBIT: "Uhm... That would make me sad" FOOLISH: "Hmm, yeah, I figured as much"

Hmm, even I'm wondering why he's asking Cellbit this since its pretty obvious he wouldn't like it. Maybe to figure out how others including Cellbit will react to him doing something with the feds again, if that would jeopardize another friendship. It's interesting since he clearly knows how suspicious he sounds, but because of how unpredictable he can be, its hard to know if this implies he would work with the feds again or plan on doing severe action again.

FOOLISH: "Do you think its impossible to play all sides?" CELLBIT: "Eventually, It will" FOOLISH: "Yeah, yeah, and you know what? I think I agree with you there, sadly"

What an even more revealing question and answer! Foolish definitely tries to play all sides, since both sides have benefits whether socially or in a more security reason. Foolish agreeing to this is scary and even more dubious, because that means he acknowledges he might need to choose a side soon, knowing that he will eventually be forced to do so. By knowing how Cellbit and majority people may think, he can weigh in on the benefits and disadvantages with both sides. His choice remains a mystery at this point, because of his neutrality, its a hard decision to make.

CELLBIT: "Let's hope you make the right choice when the time comes, right?" FOOLISH: "Hahaha, listen, listen Cellbit. I might be stupid, but I'm not an idiot"

That line goes crazy btw- and reveals even more about him! This implies that he may do some dumb things sometimes, but that doesn't mean he's fully ignorant of people's intentions and actions. He isn't ignorant of the feds manipulative ways, if anything, he's capitalizing on it! He knows he's being manipulated and thats what makes it interesting to him. I think he said this to make sure that Cellbit doesn't underestimate or look at his decisions on the surface level, look deeper, think deeper. Yes, he might be silly at times, but that doesn't make him unaware of what surrounds him. He's signaling this Cellbit because he knows the guy's smart enough to read between the lines.

This convo was so interesting in both perspectives. They're dancing around a topic they know that they will eventually have to face each other off. This'll be interesting to see... I'm excited which side will Foolish inevitably choose!

i know its an older post but irt that incest post sometimes i feel like ppl just dont and cannot get it until it happens to them. i couldnt even comprehend it as a possibility until i was 14 staying at my uncles house for a while and i still cant comprehend it as a thing that happened to me sometimes. i think its bc ppl feel security with their families in that sense— even if theyre abused in other ways, its like, “well, i know them and they’d still never do THAT.”

perhaps its bc we are still not educated about the dangers of incest as children. ever. we are taught stranger danger. we’re taught what inappropriate touch is. and when we’re a little older we’re taught to recognize grooming behaviors, but we’re never taught about what its like when it comes from family members— and what’s more we’re taught to assume the best from family members, to think of them as the exception to inappropriate touch or behaviors, when they DO make us uncomfortable instead of recognizing those behaviors as red flags. then one day it becomes too late, like it did with me. and maybe that contributes to the idea that its a non-possibility in some people, that it only happens in fiction.

the most i’ve ever seen presented to children as a red flag irt incest is the idea of a mother’s boyfriend or a stepparent acting inappropriately, but that still comes from the angle of “you havent known them for as long so this means they could also be a predator.”

we still don’t fully address what the commonly cited statistic “most sexual abuse comes from someone the survivor knows” MEANS. its not just friends. not just partners. its your family, too. its people you’ve known all your life.

but ultimately— i’m finally making my point i promise— the reason we dont address those things is because the idea that children should be able to turn to their community when their family fails them is too controversial, and not just among families that support incestuous abuse. “if my child knows they can confide in a teacher/neighbor about anything, they might become rebellious. god forbid somebody other than me contributes to my child’s development!”

people prefer the heightened possibility of their child being subjected to incestuous abuse over their child having any semblance of autonomy.

hi sorry this took a bit to answer that post IS from a while ago and i wasnt sure how to respond, because i have fortunately never experienced that type of abuse myself and dont have much to add beyond agreement. i didnt want to just leave this in my inbox though since its clear you put a lot of thought into it.

i think a lot of the opportunities for incestuous abuse stem from the traditional family structure not actually prioritizing protection or comfort, but control that feels threatened every time somebody tries to bring it up. nobody wants to actually prevent it because that would mean acknowledging family as a potential threat, as well as breaking down the ways the controlling of sex and ownership by said family is already normalized in culture (ex. fathers vigorously defending their daughters virginity, etc). this is all why imo discussions on this should go hand in hand with childrens rights and body autonomy, but even in these discussions its rare to see it actually brought up

its really something that needs to be talked about more, but people struggle to see past "alabama" jokes and fauxcest porn

Legit Bad-take/Bad-Faith Helluvaverse critics you should not trust if you see them

Interpersonal squabbles within the critical tag are irrelevant, sorry. This here is a genuine warning against users you should keep your distance from in regards to any VivziePop drama-discourse because their names may come up and you should know what it is that crossed the line.

Starlatte/Starvader/HonestHazbinCritiques/OhGodDude and Woomycritiques/RaySquid - Serial harasser(s). Long story incoming. Starlatte was/is a Vivcritical who got involved in the fandom back in 2019/2020 when she was a minor and didn't tell anyone. Her blog on tumblr was HonestHazbinCritiques where she made some good points but also managed to find/be a part of everyone else's takes in the critical community. Her relationship with several criticalblogs turned sour when she started lashing out, talking over people, being accused of faking her age, and doing stuff like arguing with irl sexworkers abt how they should feel about Angel Dust. Whatever her age actually was at the time, she was also sending her own rewrite scripts and fanwritten episodes to Spindlehorse in order to 'fix' Hazbin. In 2021 Star returned to Tumblr under the name "Oh-God-Dude" w/o disclosing to new people who she was while also starting shit. When said new ppl found out her past and got mad at her, she proceeded to block-backtalk every one of them.

Woomycritiques (twitter handle: Raysquid) is a critical blogger who stans Star and calls everyone else in the critical community an obsessed stalker while lashing out herself. She accused others of racism (unfounded), her friends of predation just for being proship (not the 'cest and underage is good'-kind, the "I like some problematic stuff in fic-context"-kind), and heckled Dirgentlemen over how much they should hate Helluva, and more.

Regardless of if you believe Woomy and Star are the same person, which ppl do, they are both -by now- adult persons who have been asked to stop and DIDN'T, which is why people don't trust them. Star and Woom were asked to tone it down, stop making accusations and even asked by many criticals to leave and stop talking about Helluvaverse as she/they seem to have nothing good to say about it. To put that into perspective, cuz I know some HH/HB fans are gonna be reading this: the people who've self-styled themselves antis and criticals begged this person to leave cuz she had nothing nice to say and was being a nuisance. I know the stans think that's all of us anyway, so let that sink in.

LincarRox aka ToyTaker - Creep. Nasty jealous stalker freak who got kicked out of Helluvaverse servers and Aminos for saying nasty shit like how he "wants to put a baby" in Viv. No really. He took his shit and grievances to BadWebComics wiki under the name TheToyTaker while also seemingly trying to get work at Spindlehorse in order to have access to Viv directly and to 'fix' her show. He did so by faking his animation portfolio. BWW did eventually catch on and kick him out but yeah....bad. May or may not still be going under his old pseudonyms, but regardless if you see someone talking weirdly sexually abt Viv while saying they were "let go" both by SH and BWW, get out now. That's probably him.

Animation Call-Out - Bigoted shitlord. Twitter user who rags on Vivz' controversies w other people but also hates gays and BIPOCs. Admitted to submitting one of the anonymous reviews against Spindlehorse "for fun" amidst legitimate ex-employees. All of the reviews, even the ones that seem the most validating/believable should be taken with a grain of salt I believe especially since they are coming to us anonymously, but when a racist person admits to def being one of those fake reviews for "Lolz" sake, that's def when shit's hit the fan.

DoodleToons - Also bigoted creeperlooser. Altright white kid who hates BIPOC existing in anything and admits to hating Viv's stuff for their LGBTisms and 'demons'. Yes, there legit are bad-faith critics who are homophobic. Just because Viv and her crew have a way of saying that's EVERY critic of her work doesn't mean there aren't shitty people out there.

So, like the useless human I am, I spent my time scrolling through Instagram. And what happens? Post after post praising Karna pops on my feed. See, you can like anyone who you want, I don't give a flying fuck. But, what I hate, is how people just make up some random shit, and then make a reel saying that it is "true" And written Mahabharat.

Now, I don't consider myself an expert or smth, but I have read 3 versions of Mahabharata, in two different languages. I think that I can say that I know some stuff about Mahabharata.

So, despite being PISSED af, I did my research. I saw these reels, scrolled through some comments, and even saw some stuff on Wattpad related to this.

Some of you might say that "if it bothers you then don't see it". Yes. That's what I have been doing. But now I am fucking pissed, and this is how I release my anger.

As always, Karna HAS to be compared to Arjun. How Arjun is such a weakling, that without Krishna he wouldn't win at all. First, if Karna is so good, and Arjun so bad, then why is Krishna supporting Arjun? Surely a god had better judgement skills than we do.

Arjun fought against SHIVA, THE GOD OF THE GODS. THE SUPREME GOD. Yes, Arjun didn't win, and he never stood a chance, but SHIVA was pleased by him, and blessed him. He gave him the Pashupatastra.

Some idiots say that Karna had it too. In a quote someone wrote that Krishna said that Karna was undefeatable as he had Brahmastra and Pashupatastra. Kindly enlighten me as to when did Karna please Shiva, and get this Astra as his blessing.

Then some people say that Shiva blessed Ravan too. Don't you dare. Don't you DARE compare Ravan, the man who ABDUCTED Sita, to Arjun. Arjun was a human, and he had his flaws. He committed mistakes. But he is, in no way, comparable to someone like Ravan.

People are writing stories where Abhimanyu respects Karna and shuns Arjun as a result. ABHIMANYU, WHO CHOSE to enter the Chakravyuha because he wanted to make his father and uncle proud. Abhimanyu, who wanted nothing more than to avenge his father. He hates Arjun in these stories.

Don't get me started on the Draukarn and Karnbhadra fandoms. Don't, please. I don't have the energy left for that. I just wish to say that you are so brave to pair Draupadi with her abuser.

Now. These are the more controversial ones. There are ppl writing stories where Karna is SHIVA'S SON.

Oh wow. Karna is comparable to KARTIKEYA AND GANESH. Speaking of Kartikeya, did you know that Karna is a better warrior than Kartikeya, THE GOD OF WAR?!

And ofc, Karna was a farrr better King than Ram was. And he was a better person too. It isn't like Ram had made a gr8 example of how to run a kingdom, that Ram Rajya has been so revered since centuries. Ofc not. That has nothing to do with this.🤡

Also, Karna had a better claim to the throne than Yudhishthira did! He was Kunti's son, and according to dharma, a wife's son is considered the husbands son too. It doesn't matter how Karna wasn't conceived when Kunti was married to Pandu, or with Pandu's permission. He STILL has a claim to the throne guys. 🙄

Last, but not the least, do you know how Krishna absolutely hated seeing Karna die, even when he was the one who had instigated Arjun to chop off Karna's head? *gasps in shock*

Also, saving the best for the last, but apparently, Krishna couldn't have defeated Karna when he still had his armor and earrings!!!! Gasppp!!!!

Okay. So half of this post is written a sarcastic manner guys, do understand my sarcasm TvT

It's fcking hilarious how Krishna, who whooped the asses of literal demons as a kid, who gave INDRA PTSD and who LIFTED THE FCKIN GOVARDHAN MOUNTAIN ON HIS LITTLE FINGER FOR SEVEN FUCKING DAYS CONTINUOUSLY is weaker than Karna. And this is just 1% of what he has done.

Like cmon. Karna is a gr8 warrior, I won't deny. But he was NOT a good person, and definitely not comparable to the people I mentioned above. Karna was defeated multiple times during the Kurukshetra war. He ran away from many battles as well. If you like him, then gr8. Do so, no one is stopping you. But don't compare him with the likes of Ram and Krishna.
