It might have sounded a little macabre to say, but Scott always assumed he’d die first. In fact, he was practically counting on it. Julie had come to the school looking to learn control of her powers, but she was not built for battle. She didn’t want to be. But Scott? He’d been fighting this fight most of his life. He threw himself into it without hesitation, took his role as a leader almost too seriously. It was uncommon that he walked out of a fight before the last of his team got off of the battlefield. Because that’s what leaders did- they looked out for their own. They made plans, formulated strategies. He knew he could tell them “C Formation” and his team would get to their positions without question because they trusted him. He was strategic. He was intelligent. He was a fighter and a survivor. And he was a mentor. Because first and foremost, this was a school. They kept the battles elsewhere as often as they could (though the occasional ambush on the mansion happened, they were generally fairly rare and quickly stopped). The kids here, even the adults like Julie who didn’t want to fight, were meant to be kept safe. To be kept away from the worst parts of the world. To learn in comfort and peace for as long as they so chose. And, generally, that’s what they had- rather normal lives. 

Yet when you have as large of a target on your back as mutantkind does, it’s not easy to hide in the shadows forever, even if you wish you could. It’s only a matter of time before something, or someone, finds you. In this case, there was no attack on the school. There was no attack on the students. There was nothing, as far as any of them were aware. Because the day had been typical in every sense of the word. Good morning kisses. Breakfast. Classes. Lunch. More teaching. And so it went, all things falling into place as usual. Until he couldn’t find her. He’d dismissed his last class of the day about 15 minutes early, an odd feeling settled in the pit of his stomach. He had texted Julie about half an hour earlier and not heard back yet. That didn’t usually happen. Hell, she hadn’t even left him on “read”, just on “sent”. Maybe she’d lost her phone? Or maybe she was busy? He hoped it was one or the other. What else could it be? But this typical day had just taken a turn, and Scott was, for the next half hour or so, completely unaware of it.

Being not only a mutant, but the leader of the main team of X-Men, Scott didn’t just have a target on his back- he was the target. His enemies would do anything to undermine him, hurt him, destroy him. And while some, like the Brotherhood, were usually against killing mutants (as they were simply trying to help their kind, much like the X-Men, albeit with a darker approach), there were plenty of others who wanted them dead. What was happening to Julie, he would soon discover, was meant to be a warning.

Not seeing her around was strange. Not being able to contact her was even stranger. When he asked around, no one had seen her recently, and it was this that really tied him in knots, made him feel like he might be sick. But he wasted no time in rushing to the professor, getting him to use Cerebro to find her. No questions were asked, no alternate options offered. Scott was clearly in a state of panic, and Charles knew better than to hesitate when Scott came running. Even when it came to Julie, he was usually pretty level headed, after all. There was a short wait as Charles tried to pick up on her thoughts, and when he finally did, it took self-control not to gasp. “I’ve found her.”

It was a rush to edges of the woods just beyond the small lake at the center of the grounds. She wasn’t dead yet, but she was already on the brink of it. And it wasn’t just Scott who had come- Logan had followed him for extra protection, Hank for any immediate medical attention, and Jean to try to calm and stabilize Julie’s mind and levitate her back to the mansion more steadily than human hands possibly could. Despite that, though, Scott held Julie’s hand the entire way back, his jaw set firm, glad for the ruby quartz sunglasses that hid the already forming tears- something between relief for having found her and sorrow for the state of her. Bloodied and broken and dying. 

The wait was the worst part, though. Nearly 3 full days, about 67 hours, of waiting. Pacing. Sitting at her bedside in case she should wake up. And for a time, on day 2, they had her stabilized, thought she might just be okay. But even all the advancements they had here, all the medical technology at their fingertips, wasn’t enough. And it was at that 67th hour, with Julie hooked up to life support, barely alive and still comatose, that Hank finally caved in, told Scott that he should prepare to say his goodbyes. And it was at that 67th hour, also, that Scott felt that he might just die, as well. Because the atmosphere was so heavy he was suffocating. Hell, he thought his heart might have stilled in his chest, threatened to stop beating altogether for the words that Hank had just said.  The moment he was alone in the room with her again, he pressed one of her hands between his, rested his forehead against her, and sobbed his heart out onto her shoulder. It wasn’t supposed to end like this. It couldn’t. There had to be- there had to be another way. Something. Anything. Yet he knew that if Hank was the one saying there was nothing else to be done, then it was because he had already tried everything.

In the hour or so that followed, people gathered. Not everyone was informed, only those whom it would concern most, and Scott had to watch them as they slowly filed in and out of the room to see her one last time. The whole while, he didn’t leave her side. If anyone wanted to hug or kiss her or hold her hand as they said their goodbyes, they’d have to round to the other side of her bed, because Scott wasn’t going to budge. And though he had stopped with the body shaking sobs of a man losing everything, he had not stopped crying. He wasn’t an overly sensitive guy most of the time, and if the circumstances weren’t so dire then he supposed that someone like Logan might have even teased him for a little. But no one said a word directly to Scott, except to apologize. As if any of this had been their fault. As if any of them had had any bit of control over the situation. Why did people apologize when someone died? It was, he supposed, the proper thing to do. The kind thing when no other words could reach a person. But it felt so... so distant. Julie was still lying here breathing through a machine, still alive as someone could be when they had only minutes left to live, and all anyone could muster was an “I’m sorry”. Later, in hindsight, he wouldn’t feel so angry about it, but right now it was like he needed to direct his anger somewhere. His rage at the whole situation. How cruel fate was to ruin her like this. To take someone as soft and kind as Julie and to throw her away so suddenly. And all for what? To make a statement? To enact a brutal bit of vengeance? (Oh, when he found out who did this, he would show them vengeance).

Scott asked for a few more minutes alone with her before they let it all end, before the machines were shut off and her body grew cold. Just long enough to kiss her goodbye. To sit with her a little longer, sing her her favorite song one last time as his finger gently brushed an already tepid cheek. He wondered if she was in pain. He hoped not. He hoped that Jean’s attempts to soothe her mind had helped, and that the morphine still steadily dripping into her veins was keeping her comfortable. Keeping her numb to the extensive injuries. “I’m sorry, Julie.” He said softly, bringing her hand to his lips, pressing a kiss against her knuckles, “This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have- we shouldn’t have-” She would have been safe if they weren’t together. The attack had been targeted at him, to hit him where it hurt most. And she had been a casualty in this fucked up game. Who would go to such extents to hurt someone like her? To decide to kill an innocent bystander who dared to love a soldier like him? It was disgusting. It was pure evil to do something like this. And Scott could feel the rage still settled deep inside of him, rising the more he thought about it.  But right here, right now, was about Julie. It was about being as close to her as he would ever be again. It was about brushing her hair back with his fingers and watching her, pretending that she was just asleep. As much as he wished he wouldn’t, he’d always have this image of her like this trapped in his head. It would live with him until the day he died- seeing her so pale, so helpless. Seeing her shallow breaths forced by a mask feeding her oxygen. “I hope you know I love you.” He continued, that same soft tone, his lips still brushing her skin ever so slightly, taking it all in, trying to breathe her in like he could keep her here inside of himself forever. In a way, he would. Always, “I had a ring picked out and everything. Jean and Kitty helped me plan a proposal.” The smallest chuckle, melancholic and ending with a soft sob, “Guess that’s kind of meaningless now. But I hope... I hope you would have said yes. And that, in some universe, somewhere, you did. And we get to live our own little happily ever after. I don’t know what that would have looked like-” because he tried not to plan too far ahead for exactly this reason- life had a way of ruining things, “but it would have been nice, right? You and I. Maybe a kid someday?” He didn’t know that he could have made fatherhood work, but he would have tried if it was what she wanted, “I think we would’ve been really happy, Julie.” Happier, even, than they had been up until just a few days ago. And while Scott knew he was far from perfect, he’d been trying to change that. He’d been trying to be better for her. He hoped that, even if he’d never gotten as far as he’d wanted to, that she had been happier for the things about himself that he had tried to fix to be better for her, “I hope there’s something more for us beyond this life. Because our time wasn’t meant to be up yet. I can feel it.”

“Scott?” He turned to look at Hank, and the other man nodded. If he was ready, it was time. And while Scott would never actually be ready, he supposed he was about as ready as he could be. To prolong it was doing neither him nor her any favors. But as the oxygen mask was removed and the only sound left was the slowing sound of the heart monitor, he kept her hand between both of his, “Julie, baby-” he said softly, “It’s okay. You can rest now. You can go.” He assured her. If there was any part of her still fighting, he wanted to assure her she could stop. Not because he didn’t want her to survive, but because he knew that it was a pointless battle. A war she needn’t wage, “It’s okay.” He said again, his voice shaky with emotion, the tears that he’d only just managed to quell now rising up again, “I love you, Julie. This isn’t over for us. I promise.” Those final words were met, only a moment after, with the earth shattering hum of the heart monitor flatlining. One last breath leaving in a rattle. And shock set in for the next fifteen seconds or so as he said her name again, then once more, as if doing so might make her wake up. But when nothing changed, and Hank turned off the heart monitor, Scott wept. Not the self-indulgent sobbing of before, but the anguished weeping of love lost. He wasn’t sure how long he stayed there like that, clutching her limp hand between his own even as her skin cooled. It could have been 5 minutes. It could have been 5 hours. It was all meaningless, anyhow. Everything felt meaningless without her. And it was Jean who finally quietly helped him leave the room as they covered Julie’s body to take her out. He would find whoever did this. He would hunt them down if need be. And he would show them no mercy when he finally ended their sorry life. Not because it was what Julie would have wanted, but because someone who could do something so awful didn’t deserve the kindness afforded by living.

So I went through a bunch of different memes and threads about the ‘Zhan Tiri is Varian’s Mom’ theory and I just have to say that I love it but I’m so disappointed there’s so little about it. I couldn’t even find any fics!! So, while I won’t be writing my own, I’ll write down my headcanon for this AU/Theory in a story outline format. Anyone can adopt and write this if they want, just tell me first please. If there's any mistakes it's because I'm posting this half asleep. Oh and, sorry, I would put the read more thing but I don't know how to :/...

So for background, Zhan Tiri had like a big time crush on Demanitus and wanted to be with him, but he big time friendzoned her. Then she became all evil (for separate, canon, reasons) and he banished her to the limbo or whatever

While there she is just vibing for a few (1,000?) years, but then one day (Two years before Varian is born) She spies a little rip in the limbo place, big enough to escape from

But the time spent there drained her significantly, she has like 5% magic or something and is weak physically in general

She figures out that she won’t be able to spend too much time free, only approximately two years, so there wasn’t really anytime to enact any evil, epic, plan of revenge just yet. She was too weak to get started regardless. But she still needs to make this time count.

While trying to figure out what she should do, she stumbles upon Old Corona and sees Quirin

Ok, more background, Qurirn (and so Varian) are direct descendants of Demanitus, like his great great whatever grandsons

And Quirin just so happens to look like Demanitus

Zhan Tiri immediately recognizes that he’s related to Demanitus and starts her plan to take advantage of this

She has just the smallest amount of magic left and uses it to shapeshift into the form of what Varian’s mother looked like in that portrait. An unassuming, kind looking commoner woman

She does the whole, ‘trips into his arms and acts flustered’ and he falls for it perfectly

By the end of the first year, they’re married and she’s pregnant

When she’s just out of labor she uses some stored up magic (from the months of resting) to produce a fake body that looks like her fake form and uses it to fake her own death via childbirth. It’s not too long after that when she’s sucked back into the limbo hell place

While stuck in there, she’s able to occasionally peer through little windows into the mortal world. From there she’s able to (kinda, and sporadically) watch Varian grow up

She sees him learn about alchemy and build machines and is like big proud

She sees when Varian meets Rapunzel for the first time (she recognizes Raps as the Sundrop™ right away) and she definitely sees the Storm and Amber incident. She watches as her husband (technically still married) gets encased in Amber and her son is thrown out into a blizzard with no help for his father

Now, here’s the thing, her fake relationship with Quirin was of a loving wife, but she didn’t particularly care for him. BUT she does have a dull attachment to him and he is the father to her child. She cares about him enough to want to get back at anyone who harmed him (which might be a bit of a territorial urge but they are technically still married)

And with Varian? She ADORES Varian. Every bone in her evil body loves that little scientist. (The only problem with this, is that, while yes, she does love him, it’s borderlining on an unhealthy love for reasons that include, but are not limited to...

She’s had no mothering experience and is (will be) absolutely terrible at it, she values his mind and what he can do quite similarly to how Gothel views Rapunzel’s hair (but unlike her actually cares for his well being beyond that as well), and well she’s just an evil person who will use him for her evil schemes)

ANYWAY all this concludes to the fact that now Zhan Tiri has a reason other than her being the Sundrop™ to hate Rapunzel, a very personal reason

Luckily for her, the Storm weakened the Limbo barrier place enough so that when she broke out this time? Well, not at full power, but lots of magic and strength!! But she is confined to a astral form, or otherwise she’s in her little ghost form

She’ll be able to show herself to one person (ngl i think the reason Cass could see her was because she was at the hotel then had the moonstone so idk how else Varian could see her right at this point and I might be completely wrong, but whatever I’m going with this) and she choses Varian of course. She changes to look like the form of his mother and appears to him while he’s deliriously trying to break his dad out of the amber

The poor kid hasn’t eaten or slept for days and is handling dangerous chemicals, so when he sees her (after the initial shock of seeing his dead mother’s astral projection) he assumes that she’s an hallucination

She forces him to sleep (and eat) and eventually she is able to convince him that she’s real

She then convinces him to get his revenge on Rapunzel (he had been still trying to convince himself that she was ok and/or that she would come check on him after the storm)

I can't really think of what would happen between then and the finale, but I imagine he still gets arrested and Zhan Tiri gives him advice on how to break out (like guard schedules or whatever) and also spies on Rapunzel’s group traveling (let's say she can teleport wherever with her ghostly form)

There would be no Andrew and Varian team up if I were to write it but whatever

hmm ig i’ll go with canon for this one because i have many ocs, but uh i really wanna write for seto from fragile dreams. i used to have an ask blog for him back in the day but that died quickly seeing as how dead the fandom is so- but i do love him with all my heart and i would love to be able to someday write him or something

rick riordan, marissa meyer and michelle rowen. i’ve read their books throughout middle school and high school and i still find myself going back to reread their books because i just love how their words flow as well as how engaging their plots are. i honestly hope i can reach rick riordan levels of skill whenever i get around to finishing my own novel!

one would have to be an old rp friend that we sadly don’t talk to anymore since she was the first one i started writing with a lot more back in high school as well as the one who would give me advice on how to improve and just be patient with me when i go stuck with writing our threads and also mikey (@snw-cnvs) since he also supports me outside of rp’ing to get me to write actually fiction drabbles. i just wish i could finish them lmao

all of my ships with mikey no i’m joking lolol i really love my ship with haneul because i’ve had him for two years now and he’s grown a lot because of his ship. he’s someone whose never believed that love was real and sure their relationship is a little rocky, but they both don’t really have the proper understanding for love until waaaay later. i also really love how whenever he’s with obe, he’s able to pull out this different side of haneul, someone whose so overconfident and quick to words, becomes at a loss for words and questioning himself a lot. i just love them best otp

not really refuse to play - more like i’m eh with. if only because en used to be my main chara for a long time like, i was so deep into the magical boy lore that a good chunk of my headcanons became canon. but also it just…leaves a bad taste in my mouth even more so since the drama that happened in that fandom left me filled with fear and hesitance to rp for a good chunk like before. it just brings back bad memories and i thought i was moving past it when i was thinking about using him for reese but alas. some memories don’t leave

maybe one day i’ll either get to write en again or i can use his face as fc but we’ll see

haneul: he loves the rain and he’ll spend it either under an umbrella or just sitting there in the rain just letting it wash away his thoughts and fears for a little bit 

eiji: he’d spend it indoors playing a video game or playing with seto

reese: he’d prob be dumb and splash in the puddles because he likes to enjoy the little things. other times he’ll just ignore it and stay indoors either hanging with friends or studying and practicing his magic for his school’s next tournament

I’m surprised I’ve never talked about social media in any real capacity given that I often post to a social medium. 

I used the singular for a reason: I only ever post to tumblr. I rarely use Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Instagram, and I’ve never used any others. And I only ever use them on a computer, except Instagram. I don’t even have the apps on my phone. I’m like a middle-aged balding man, I only use my phone to text, check the weather, set alarms, take shitty pictures of my cat and call people.

I just want to talk a bit about my experiences with social media and why I don’t use them on my phone like most people.

Let’s start with Facebook. I post maybe two/three times per month. I use messenger every day, but I consider that more like texting than social media. I check it once a day or so, almost never interacting with anyone’s posts. I basically use it to keep track of which of my high school friends are getting married or having kids. Which, when I see it typed out, sounds much creepier than intended.

I don’t much care for the format or the content, but if I write something on tumblr I want people I know to see, I’ll share it to my Facebook. But other than that, funny stories or a particularly poignant meme, I don’t post much. I’m not particularly interesting, so my life isn’t very “Instagramable”, and if I want to post my thoughts about something specific, I’d rather do it on a blog than a “timeline”. I think another reason I don’t use it much is because it bores me, to be completely honest. I don’t really care about the daily lives of most people, and most people don’t care about my daily life. Daily life is usually pretty boring.

Twitter. I think I have about 30 tweets total. I literally only use it because it’s my best friend Connor’s only social media activity besides the occasional Instagram selfie. I occasionally read Trump’s tweets, but I can only absorb so much stupid before feeling like I need brain bleach. I don’t tweet often because 1. I have exactly 15 followers, and b) I really don’t know how to tweet properly. I feel like I’m incapable of making a joke land on twitter, I don’t know why. Also I have never felt the need to use a reaction gif in my life.

Instagram. I actually use this more than I realize now that I’m thinking about it. I only check it a few times a week, but it’s the only social media where I’ll scroll until I’m caught up. I only follow maybe 25 people I consider somewhat-friends from high school. I use it mainly to post Very Important Content: pictures of my kitty being adorbs.

I actually use Youtube and Reddit every day, but 90% for news. I never comment or post, so I really don’t consider Youtube social media, but I guess Reddit does technically count because I do read comments there.

The reason tumblr is my main go-to, I think, is threefold: quantity, variety, and depth. I follow about 20 active posters, which generates a large quantity of content, where I can scroll for 2 minutes or 2 hours and still be consistently entertained or engaged. I, too, can post about 8000 specific fandoms/topics/news items, so I never feel like I have nothing to post.

Variety in my interests has led me to follow a wide variety of blogs to keep the content mixed between my fandoms, news, jokes, memes and discourse. Keeps me from getting bored of the same shit. 

Finally, because tumblr is, at its core, a blog, I can read essays about specific episodes of The Office, I can read a list of reasons Lady Gaga is problematic, I can read long internet arguments and have my opinion changed. Or I can laugh at a cat falling over. Similarly, I can post a 5000-word analysis of That 70′s Show or a snappy one-liner. The things that interest me vary in depth, so I enjoy that my dash does too. I’d say this is almost unique to tumblr, but Reddit also has that quality, which is why I use Reddit quite a lot as well. Where else besides r/badsurvivorideas will I read about themes for Survivor seasons that would be disasters?

But the reason I’m posting about social media is because I can boast something most people my age cannot: I’m not even remotely “addicted” to any social media nor my phone. I don’t boast this fact because it makes me sound like an octogenarian, but it’s completely true. I’ve spent weeks without access to social media (on the mental health ward in the hospital) and the only thing I missed was watching Youtube. I even used an app that told me how many times a day I checked my phone. 11. The average is nearly 60 if I recall correctly.

I don’t like typing on a tiny screen, watching things on a tiny screen, or using touchscreens in general. I also spend most of my days in front of a computer anyway, so I see no need to take my social media use onto another device. 

As an alcoholic, I understand the underlying notion of addiction, but addiction to social media is one I just absolutely do not understand. Not dissing people who do suffer from addiction to social media just like I’d never diss a coke addict. I certainly would never do coke, but that’s just me, specifically because I’d be afraid of it making my anxiety worse. But addiction is addiction, and often we don’t get to choose what addiction takes hold of us.
