something I think people often forget about Shrub Berry is that she is not defenseless. I cannot count the number of fanfics I’ve read where she’s a scared, traumatized, terrified gnome who’s seperated from her people and is almost entirely helpless. This is a crucial part of her character, but she’s also so, so brave. Take episode 17 of Empires (Xornoth showed me the future of our empires!) Shrub is continuing her daily life in the midst of this incredibly traumatic experience. She is farming, watering her flowers, and mining, even as the threat of Corruption grows ever-closer. When Xornoth appears, she starts to run away, before realizing that’s exactly what they want. She starts fighting back, insulting Xornoth, and telling him to stop Corrupting the empires, arguing for him to let Joey She keeps them talking, even now, trying to probe for weaknesses. She defends herself and her wolves, in the midst of tragedy and death. She keeps going. It takes so much courage to keep going after your life has been ripped to pieces, it would be so much easier to just let the Corruption win. To lie down and let Xornoth kill her, have her body overrun with Corruption, to join the rest of her people, but Shrub. Keeps. Going. she fights back in any way she can, and she tries to bite back against the darkness, a cornered wolf, the last of her species, and the bravest little beacon of hope in my life when I was fighting my own demons and reminding me that bad doesn’t always have to win, bullies don’t always triumph, people can fight back and make a difference. Shubble literally kept me going when I wanted to just…give up fighting because of how bullied I was in school about three years ago. I know it’s a silly Minecraft smp, I know it was never meant to be so deep, but Shrub Berry literally saved my life. Thank you.

That moment when you realize you've forgotten a very important plot device because you were writing from a different perspective for a while where it wasn't relevant, and now you need to go back and rewrite a chapter and a half to include it.

every once in a while i remember that scott’s life series+empires characters being aro is not actually a hc that has occurred to most people and it really does throw me for a loop. there are very few characters where my personal hcs about their queerness so heavily affect how i analyze them but scott being aro really is a massive contributor to how i see his character and i see takes about him i agree w/ relatively frequently so i. forgot. this is at least partially because i have curated my dash well and rarely go into the tags but that is not the point.

Okay I don’t think I can be normal about this because I fucking love goats. I love managing nature with nature. I love stewardship. I love humans living with nature.

I just!!! And goats!!! You can hire goats to clear underbrush!! You feed the goats!!! They don’t even know they are working because this is their thing!!! I love this. I love this so much. We don’t have to fight against nature, we just need to relearn how to work with it.

Firefighting goats have been deployed by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians to protect tribal land and neighboring property from potentially devastating brush fires.

The goats are unleashed by the San Manuel Fire Department to eat up dry brush and grass that would normally be ideal fuel for fires — a recent fire was actually partially stopped once it reached an area cleared by the caprine crew earlier this year.

The herd, officials said, is about 400-strong and is made up of generations of goat families.

On Tuesday, the goats were treated to a feast of fruit before being sent on their brush-eating mission.

The goats will spend the next several months trimming and thinning out vegetation on the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Reservation and nearby properties in San Bernardino.

Tribal officials said the brush that covers the hillsides in and around San Manuel property is thriving and diverse, boosted by the recent history-making rainy season. The plant life is an ideal food source because goats prefer food that’s at their eye level.

The Tribe has used goats as a natural, environmentally friendly fire preventative tool since 2019; the plants get trimmed in a sustainable fashion, which allows them to survive and recover naturally overtime unlike most chemical sprays.

Tribal officials called the practice an extension of the Tribe’s “culture of lands stewardship.”

“Caring for the land is a sacred duty of the Tribe,” said Lynn Valbuena, chairwoman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. “Stewardship is a responsibility given to our people by the Creator. No matter who owns the land.”

San Bernardino County residents shouldn’t be surprised to see the goats in the mountains fulfilling this divine task from now through the end of fire season.
