i feel like i've done this one (or one very like it) at some point before, but i couldn't find it when i went searching, so maybe i just read through it and composed answers in my head? or my very confused tagging system is understandably failing me.

several! these days mainly starsky & hutch, but h50 is still very present too, and i think both stargate atlantis and 911 may also be worth mentioning. beyond that there's a lot of other things for which i'm working on a single fic, or there's a document with multiple of them but i only open it once in a blue moon.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

well. four out of five of these are for a fandom i wouldn't write for anymore today for obvious reasons, and the other one (Tell me I'm perfect) is a Shadowhunters fic:

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

i wish i did! i keep trying to get into a healthier habit on that front, because i love comments and i'd like to say thank you and engage with people more, but it's a complicated thing - not in real life, but in my head, unfortunately.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

not an easy question, and it's not because there's too many to pick from! i'll indulge in a little melancholy at times, and maybe even a somewhat things-aren't-perfect ending, but generally there's at the very least a solid spark of hope even if the rest of the fic was sad. i think maybe Sobering (a mash hawk/trap fic) could qualify for actual angst, but even that one i seem to have tagged as "angst? i think?" when i posted it.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

now this, this is where we get tangled up in weighing a hundred fluffy fics against each other to decide happiness rankings! maybe something like Flowers for no reason but you missed me (starsky/hutch) or And I love every inch of you (And then some, and then some) (h50 steve/danny) because both of those are just pure giddy happiness start to finish, which means the happiness has been building for the longest by the time the ending rolls around.

Do you get hate on fics?

thankfully, not really! most of my stuff is deeply inoffensive. there's been a sporadic comment here or there over the years of someone randomly telling me they didn't agree with something i wrote (by which i don't mean people pointing out genuine mistakes - that's very different, and very helpful), but even then i wouldn't necessarily classify that as "hate", just as a very awkward way to respond to reading something that annoys you for whatever reason. what springs to mind is one that started with "i have not seen the episode" and then proceeded to interpret an in context line from a character as my personal beliefs on whether children are capable of evil, so. that kind of thing.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

not officially! but unofficially i've been told that it's fun and really really sweet, so no surprises there.

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

not usually, which means that the craziest (and only) one on ao3 is probably the h50/s&h crossover (Said the apple to the orange), which is truly very uncrazy.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

i wonder about that sometimes (i feel like after many many years and with the recent bot stuff on top, the answer should maybe be "probably"), but not that i know of!

there was an instance once of someone copying a story title, but they did so in a way that didn't even work. i was writing in dutch at the time, but english titles were Very Cool, so my story was called "ladies, bugs and ladybugs", and the other person took that, translated it to dutch, and used that for their story, which. those words don't match up the same way in the slightest, so it's just a random sequence of things by that point.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes! actually, i was probably the first person to translate any of my fic - all of the very, very early stuff posted to ao3 was just an english copy of originally dutch stories - but these days there are also a lot of russian translations (russians seem to be very active in h50 fandom!), some mandarin, some french. one italian, i think. it's very cool!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

a few attempts were made over the years, but most of that never went very far for one reason or another. none of it is on ao3.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

as of right now, probably starsky/hutch!

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

oh, i'm afraid i could fill, well, lists. one that immediately comes to mind that's technically a little past this category because i know i'll never finish it is a very long h50 project in which i took up about a hundred different little threads from the series and tried to weave them together into a giant fix-it-ish getting together coming out case fic sort of thing, and i still think the plotting work for that one was sound, but i'm just never going to actually get 100k down for a fic like that at this point in my life. (note that this is not a fic that's already up on ao3 in part - i'll finish those, one way or another.)

and oh my, for maybe a better answer: the starsky-watches-cowboy-movies starsky/hutch fic. i want to write that one, i do! and i am, and i do have real hope that i may one day finish it, but it's a fairly ambitious project in multiple ways, so there are some serious obstacles i will need to find some way around.

What are your writing strengths?

i love the patter of writing dialogue! people tell me characters sound believable and like themselves, so that's nice. also, balancing ridiculously fluffy things in such a way that it doesn't tip over into saccharine, and i also think i manage good jokes sometimes. i've been working on descriptions and atmosphere, and that's been fun.

What are your writing weaknesses?

i've completely unlearned how to write long stories! and ironically, i do write a lot of overlong sentences. also, i'll turn to google for absolutely anything, but deep down i'm a pretty impatient writer when research is needed and it doesn't happen to be a subject i'm already interested in, which oftentimes means i'd rather handwave things or scrap the idea entirely, even though i think really well-researched fic is amazing. and on that note, no matter how much american media and internet content i consume, i'm not american and have never been to america, which can be a challenge when writing for almost exclusively american fandoms. (i think i understand beds now, but i'll have to google sinks one of these days.)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

ha! this was a thing that was very, very common for a while in my dutch fic writing community, because more or less all of the fictional properties and/or real life celebrities people were writing about were british or american (maybe with tokio hotel as the one notable exception), so there was A Lot of fic written in dutch with stilted high school english dialogue thrown in. i was never very into that, but hey, if it makes you happy, definitely go for it, and that goes double if it's just a few sentences for flavor! compared to what i used to see, ao3 culture is extremely conservative with these sorts of things.

all of which i say while also still, in the back of my head, considering the possibility of writing a really obnoxious ted lasso fic with 90% dutch dialogue, so. i too might become guilty at some point in the future.

First fandom you wrote for?

twilight! it was nessie/jacob, with i think a love triangle with a vampire thrown in. we all have to start somewhere.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

i recently reread How To Build A Triangle (or accidentally fall headlong into one, or whatever the fuck) and i still think it's really good and fun, plus it's a minor miracle that i got it finished so easily! there's a decent chance i'd name a different fic if you asked me again tomorrow, though.

what's your total ao3 word count? 2,230,172. that feels like a lot. i’m like 26 years into this gig. 

what fandoms do you write for? the closer/major crimes, stargate sg1, and star trek: voyager are kind of the big three, but i dabble around. 

what are your top five fics by kudos? all i know is we said hello and your eyes looked like coming home - 1523 kudos where i’m going now, i don’t know - 1086 kudos the rise, fall, and rebirth of hermione granger - 1048 kudos the devil’s right there in the details - 1028 kudos here comes the rush before we touch - 940 kudos

do you respond to comments? why or why not? for a long time i wasn’t very good at it because the idea of that kind of interaction made me a little anxious, but once we made the leap to ao3, i feel like the mechanism for giving and receiving comments was overall better and now i at least try to respond to the majority. sometimes if someone is reading something and comments on every chapter, i’ll just respond to their final comment, but most likely if you leave me a comment i will (eventually) reply back.

what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I would say either Sometimes So Sweet, Sometimes So Lonely which is the last part of the Beauty and Nothing More series which was… controversial. Well. I think people didn’t like it, but respected it, if that makes sense. OR Eighteen Again which is old and I think if I rewrote, I could do it better but I never will. Oh actually I’m wrong, it’s Deep City Lights. For sure, for sure.  

what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? MAYBE These Hearts Adore? PERHAPS something else but mostly all you get is happy endings, I think. 

do you get hate on fics? no. which is so nice. thanks guys. 

do you write smut? if so, what kind? the gay kind mostly! i didn’t always but i do now, so you’ll find it in my more recent stuff. 

do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written? I wrote a Sanctuary story that takes place in the Buffy universe, kind of. An alternate universe. (Just a Whisper in the Dark.) I wrote a Voyager story that kind of waded into TNG a little. (And Beneath That, A Rebel Heart.) I think those are as close as I ever got. 

have you ever had a fic stolen? i don’t think so? i’ve had lines lifted. you know where i’ve been going along reading a fic of someone who maybe isn’t a mutual but is in the circle and it starts feeling real familiar, but not the whole thing, to my knowledge.

1. How many works do you have on Ao3?

36, although one of those is a playlist for the SGA Songfest.

2. What's your total Ao3 word count?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I have written for Good Omens, MASH, Stargate (SGA and SG-1), Person of Interest, and now Top Gun: Maverick.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

walking alone at 3am (TGM), The McMurdo Chess Club (SGA), Autopilot (SGA), I would never dare (Good Omens), and Class A's (MASH)

5. Do you respond to comments?

I very much try to. I love responding to comments.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Angst-wise, I think it's Dear John (SGA), although it almost doesn't count because I wrote a follow up sequel that fixes the angst. There's no one I would rather be lying beside (SGA/SG-1) is definitely the saddest though.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh man, most of them have pretty happy endings. I think maybe my favorite happy ending is You Can't Go Home Again (MASH).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I haven't. People seem to be pretty friendly.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. Some of the smut is just incidental to the plot, but I also do a few that are just smut. I guess I tend to write mostly m/m (although I have some f/f and want to write more of that) with a little bit of kink, usually some d/s dynamics and light bondage. I'm trying to get more comfortable with it in general. I keep on meaning to do some kinkmeme fills as practice.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Technically, my SGA/SG-1 fics are crossovers, but I don't think that really counts, since it's very much the same universe. Which makes I've bit my tongue too long to hide the blood I'm covered in (SGA/POI) my only true crossover. And definitely the craziest. Very niche fic that absolutely no one asked for, but I love it.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I'm aware.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Oh, that's so hard to answer. I feel like I have different answers for this depending on the day and the context. But it might be John/Vala (SGA/SG-1).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

My SGA fic where John dies while Rodney is back on earth with Jennifer and Rodney comes back and slowly starts to lose it, seeing John everywhere. I have so many SGA fics that will take priority over it, and it's just sad, which is harder for me to feel motivated. It was also shaping up to be long, which I struggle with. I also haven't come back to SGA yet - I'm still thoroughly ensared by Top Gun at the moment.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Recently, I've discovered I may actually be good at fluff. Either that, or the TGM fandom is just really, really nice (or both). On the more nuts and bolts of things, I usually only write something when I feel I have a good handle on the character voice, and my grammar is generally really good (although when I'm tired I fuck up tenses and have had to go back and fix that too many times to count). I also think I do a pretty good job with making romance sweet but not over the top.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Comedy. I occasionally write some funny lines, but it's very hard for me to write jokes if I'm intending to do so. Also, as previously mentioned, I will sometimes switch between past and present tense without noticing and have to go back and fix that. And I really struggle with writing long fics (I just run out of steam). Which is why I've mostly moved to writing series of shorter fics instead of multi-chaptered fics.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Depends. Usually, I'm not going to bother. I just put some Hebrew in a fic because a character was celebrating a Jewish holiday, but it wasn't a whole passage, just a phrase that I think can be worked out from context (although I'm going to put in an end note to help give some additional context for anyone who isn't familiar with that particular Jewish holiday). But I'm not going to ever do anything more than that - I think it makes things a little harder to read, and generally, I think that you can say things like 'Radek muttered in Czech' if you want to bring in another language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

First fandom I posted in was Good Omens, but I recently realized that I should count the comic my friend and I made in 6th grade, where we essentially put all of us and our friends into the Sammy Keyes universe (and also, wow, my character went by a man's name and dressed like a guy but still used she/her pronouns but didn't mind he/him and was essentially aromantic, and hindsight is 20/20)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Again with the hard choices - I love so many of my fics. But right this moment, I think Autopilot (SGA) is my favorite. It's the only one I wrote longhand, and I wrote it because the SGA server was doing a challenge to write a 15-sentence fic. It was super fun to write, and I think it turned out really well.

Kaidan moved his hand to Coats’ shoulder, letting himself fall into the slow rhythm of the music. It was hypnotising, sensual, almost sexual, and Kaidan found himself drifting closer to Coats until they were flush against each other, their fatigues not leaving room for any imagination other than what was more than obvious. Coats offered Kaidan his beer bottle, and Kaidan drank, his eyes fixed on Coats. Coats bit his bottom lip, his gaze darkening even more. Kaidan licked the last drops of beer from his lips, letting Coats drink from his bottle in return. Fuck, this shouldn’t be as hot as Kaidan felt. This was dark and slow and sensual, and Kaidan could’ve sworn that Coats chased a last drop of beer on the bottleneck with his tongue. He realised that his own fingers had moved, were playing absentmindedly with the fine hairs on Coats’s neck, raising goosebumps wherever they touched. Kaidan dared to press even closer, burying his nose into Coats’ neck and getting high on his scent. So easy. So easy to get intoxicated by that smell of soap and sweat and skin. He took a sharp breath when he felt Coats’ fingers sliding under his uniform shirt, unto his bare, sweat-damp skin on the small of his back. “So, do I get to call you Daryl?” Kaidan whispered against Coats’ ear, revelling in the shiver that travelled through Coats’ body. “You sure as hell get to call me Daryl,” Coats replied just as huskily, and Kaidan had to suppress a moan when Coats’ lips travelled along his hairline. Fuck.

Always. It's important to me that people know I've read their comments. Even if it's just a 🖤, I want you to know that I see you and I acknowledge you and I am thankful for you.

All of the Whumptober fics, the last thing you never see (a Fallout/Stargate fusion), and Subnautica (another video game fusion).

It'll probably be the last part of The Long Dark if I ever get there...

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Yup, somewhat regularly. Mostly it's bigotry because I dare to to write characters that aren't cis in my fics...

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Not really. I have a couple of E rated fics, but mostly I stick to the M rating. I'm more comfortable there.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Yes, but more fusions than true crossovers. It's a lot of fun taking characters and dumping them into video game worlds! Subnautica was an early fic I wrote that was a complete experiment. It's entirely dialogue, and I wasn't sure it was going to work out. I like what it became.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

IDK. I hope not.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. But I have an open Transformative Works Policy, and I am happy for people to do so if they want to. (I have a bunch of podfic gifts, for which I am so utterly grateful and excited!)

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No, but I have written other people's prompts and gifted works to people based on their ideas. @bunny-bopper does so much shaping and idea bouncing that there are a couple of fics I'd gladly credit her on, but she wouldn't let me.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Gosh, I have a few. I get bogged down in my serial killer fic when I'm in a mood, it keeps heading too dark for me to be comfortable sharing it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

People seem to feel like my characters stay in character in my AUs, which is a relief because I often ask myself "What would Rodney or John do/feel/say in a world where *his life is very different*" and the answers always surprise me.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Commas, semi-colons, run-on sentences, and I have zero consideration for any of the school-taught writing rules which I am certain can be offputting for some people. If I want to open with dialogue then I'm going to open with dialogue.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think if you feel competent enough to do it then go for it. I am not, but I will throw in words and common phrases if a canon character does so.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The X Files. I wrote a little Scully/Milder kiss fic when I was a preteen. I wish I still had that. I never showed it to anyone. not even Bun.

Possibly an unexpected answer, but 101 Contritions is my most self-comforting fic.

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME

I was tagged by @santabarbara-skies (thank you!!!) so how could I resist doing this?

• let’s get the obvious one out of the way, Star Wars The Clone Wars (I could list most of the SW shows tbf but let’s stick with the one that I’m the most obsessed with) • Stargate SG-1 - my beloved, my first introduction to scifi, and a show that has influenced me a lot througout my entire life, still holds up • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - I had a hardcore anime/mange phase at one point, this is one of the shows I still love so much • Arcane - IT IS SO GODDAMN PRETTY (I’ve wasted so many hours in that game so I’m very glad this show exists to compensate for some of the loss of sanity I experienced when I played) • Game of Thrones - I don’t wanna talk about it • 9-1-1, a recent new obsession • Dark - such a weird and confusing but also amazing show • Koko Suomi Leipoo, the Finnish version of The Greath British Bake Off. I love cooking and baking competition shows ffff

There’s honestly so many shows I could’ve chosen, I have so many favorites and so many shows I rewatch again and again and again because they’re just so good, but for this list I tried to choose some that I feel have really affected me or show different sides of me. I also cannot for the life of me just list stuff, I have to explain EVERYTHING.

2022 brought loads of new interesting stuff and content in my life. I won’t talk about the war special military operation going on next door because I’m not here to be stressed out.

2022 started slowly with Fallout on eco burner. My love for Paladin Danse is forever and unrelenting.

Book of Boba Fett! Ming-Na! Loved her in ER, Universe and Stargate, and now as Fennec. Extra cameo at the end!

Obi-wan Kenobi! Ewan McGregor, stellar as ever. My first platonic love, still going strong. Shame he didn’t get enough recognition for his portrayal in the early 2000′s and I’m glad the fans could reach both him and Hayden at last. It was so good so see them in their roles again. The last episode hurt so much it was so good.

Then in August we decided to finally finish Divinity Original Sin 2 with my Hubbo. That meant starting a new character, because we forgot like everything. 

Then I learned there was romance in D:OS2. That lead to a quick spiral with Ifan ben-Mezd. I already liked his character since the first time we played, at first I picked him as follower, second time I mained him, and now I picked him again, but accidentally triggered a romance dialogue and rolled with it. I’m glad I did. So worth it. I was robbed 4 years of Wolf Husband content.

Then I finally caught up with House of the Dragon. I started binging it the week the last episode came out because there was no way I’d wait that many weeks. I loved the structure of the series and how it knew exactly how much to serve. The experience felt like I’m watching fanfic. (Obi-wan, too, btw.) I didn’t really like either side, both the greens and blacks have good and bad people. And I know how it ends. However I understand their problems and see why they do what they do. I’m still not a fan of either Daemon or Rhaenyra, but for some inexplicable reason I imprinted on damned Aemond. I didn’t want to like him. I also adore Halaena. And let’s not forget Harwin Strong, the daddest dad to ever dad. And Rhaenys. True queen.

My new debilitating love for Ifan naturally led to a cursory search on AO3 for Ifan content. It’s scarce. So I read what was up my alley and decided to trying my hand at writing one. I think it’s 50% done now at 20k-ish words.

Also, I found a multifandom fic with some Dragon Age characters along with Ifan. Namely Alistair and Blackwall. Then I got Blackwall recommended if I liked Ifan. (I don’t dare tag you friend but you know it’s you.)

So, I asked Hubbo to get me Dragon Age. I was dreading to start, the whole religious aspect was a bit much for me. But I decided to dredge through the intrigue for the romances and story. TBH I knew some elements of the story, because I watched Hubbo play a few years back, but I never really cared. I remembered Morrigan because he romanced her. I was also very much spoiled throughout the story so it was really time to get a coherent experience.

Naturally, I started with Origins. I was pre-conditioned to go for Alistair and I am glad I did. He’s such a dork. I love him so much. Couldn’t harden him or make him king. My Cousland stayed with him until other orders came from above. At that point, I knew I would do anything to keep Alistair safe. Even break my own heart later.

I decided to go for Zevran next game. Maybe Morrigan, once, but I need the perfect character for that.

Then, Awakening. I was glad I could keep my Warden from Origins, so Cousland rolled into her new arling only for me to be shocked in the first quest. Hubbo never played this. I didn’t knew Anders was there. Nor did I know who Justice was. I had second-hand Corypheus flashbacks from the Architect. Like, vibez.

I loved every Warden recruit! (except Oghren. I didn’t like him in Origins, but he was not much better here) Especially Nathaniel Howe! I grew fond of my arch enemy’s son rather quickly. He was the only one I maxed out I think because I ran out of game. Anders was close second tho. Shame I found Sigrun last.

Naturally, next step was Dragon Age 2. I burned through Kirkwall in a week. It was a blast. Heh. I wanted to romance Fenris, but I decided to go for Anders because then I would have an easier time in Here Lies the Abyss. Or so I thought. My purple Hawke grew on me. Her relationship with Anders grew on me. It was always supposed to be a slightly pro-mage playthrough, but at the end I decided to go all in. Hawke has had enough. And I knew I’d be in a pit of despair soon.

I also made sure to max Fenris out, because I need the best friend.

So, here comes Inquisition. I’m only, what, eight years late. I set out to romance Blackwall, because, recommendation. First experience was underwhelming, but he worked his way up quickly. I’m not finished with the game or the romance yet, I didn’t even travel to the Winter Palace yet. But I kissed the sad bear enough for him to say he could get used to it. Good, do that. (I’m not at his personal revelation part yet.)

I did Here Lies the Abyss. I was like, I need to tear this band-aid off ASAP. I saved Alistair and left Alma behind, as I previously planned, but man... I wouldn’t want to be near Anders when he hears about it. The game really served me with a below-the-belt-punch for that decision by Varric’s tale. I cried like 4 different times after it and it was only 5 days ago. I’m broken. It was supposed to be my expendable Hawke. It was supposed to be least resistance. 

Oh, yeah. Varric. I grew rather fond of my charismatic friend and I’m damn broken I made him hurt like that. 

Cassandra is my bestie. Dorian is close too. And I adore Crem. He’s the best.

Later playthroughs I want to see Cullen’s romance, and possibly either Solas or Cassandra. Or Dorian. But that’s like 5 games. Whole lotta time.

I think that’s it? Quite a list, I always thought there’s nothing new this year can bring, but here I am with like 5 new boyfriends and 2 new heartbreaks. At minimum.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? This was actually difficult to choose, but I think There's no one I would rather be lying beside (Stargate, Sam/Janet). Runners up are Dear John (but Dear Rodney fixes the ending) and I've bit my tongue too long to hide the blood I'm covered in.

First fandom you wrote for? Technically, I wrote some roleplay stuff for Harry Potter when I was very young, and I think the comic I wrote with my friend when we were 12 could be considered Sammy Keyes self-insert fic, but the first thing I wrote and actually acknowledged was for Good Omens.

Favourite fic you've ever written? I love so many of them, and I rotate through them as my favorites. But at the moment, I think my first McLorne fic, The Young and the Reckless, is my fav. I'm having a smoking and leather jackets in the 80s moment.

Radek blinked slowly, staring at his tablet screen. He looked at the empty lab, face screwing up in confusion. His eyes searched the room hoping something would jog his memory.  

His communicator buzzed. "Zelenka, this is Carter, come in.”  

Radek chewed his thumb, his brain terrifyingly blank. “Go ahead.”

“I'd like you to remove the main control crystal from the gate. We cannot risk spreading this disease anywhere else."

His mind sparked. Ah, that’s right. They were sick. "Yes, of course." He stood quickly, the sudden action making him dizzy. He gripped the table edge, tightening his eyes as the world spun. Once steady he made his way to the control room.

His head throbbed. He stopped and leaned against the wall, removing his glasses. He pinched his brow before rubbing a hand over his scruffy face. He placed his glasses back on and continued.

He nodded at Chuck as he passed him in the gate room. The man waved back cautiously, "Who are you?" Chuck asked.

Radek moved to the main console, pressing his communicator. "Someone must come to gate room and escort Chuck to the mess hall. He is not recognizing me."

"Be right there," Lorne responded.

Chuck squinted his eyes. He pointed at the panel Radek was opening. "I think that's important?" He said slowly.

Radek waved a hand at him. "Is okay Chuck. She told me to do this." He removed the control crystal, holding it by the case.

Chuck’s eyes locked on the crystal. "You're not supposed to remove that," He said vehemently.

Radek pursed his lips, backing away. "Chuck, you are confused. Uh - she,”   Radek rolled his hand, "Um-." What is her name? Radek shook his head. "Our leader instructed me to remove this."

Chuck frowned. "You're lying, you can't even remember her name."

Radek peered at him from over his glasses. "Can you?" Chuck flushed red, his hands curling into fists.

Radek held the case against his chest, continuing to back away. "Listen, you are sick. We all are." He raised his palm, “Please remain here until someone comes to fetch you."

Chuck stepped toward him quickly, "No. I-I don't believe you." He cornered Radek against one of the control desks, "Put it back."

Radek clenched his teeth. How dare, um… He wracked his brain. Chuck? Yes, yes, Chuck. How dare Chuck corner him.

Radek pushed the man away. Chuck stumbled back. Radek took off toward a transporter. He didn't have time for this. He was already losing his memory. He needed to get the crystal somewhere safe before he was completely gone.

Chuck regained his footing, running after him. Radek pressed the transporter screen just as Chuck reached the doors. He leaned back against the wall. His fingers flexed around the crystal’s casing.

He stepped out of the transporter, heading quickly toward an empty part of the city. He couldn't let anyone take it. He stopped at a fork in the hallway glancing down each side before heading left.

He needed to hide the crystal. Needed to make sure it stayed safe. He held the case to his chest with both hands. They were counting on him.

It's quiet. The corridors are empty. He isn’t quite sure where he is, the place seemed familiar and yet not. He continued forward, stopping at the end of the hall, glancing around warily before turning right.

He counted his steps between each doorway, then calculated the number of steps it took him from one end of the hall to the other. He had no reason for this compulsion. Just knew that the constant computation quelled his growing anxiety. He looked down the next hallway as he reached the end. So far, this place was quite static, the past three halls nearly identical.

He moved down the corridor, surprised as voices drifted toward him. He searched quickly before diving into an alcove. Hm, so he wasn't alone after all. He peeked around the corner, eyes landing on four men. Soldiers. Fear spiked through him as he glanced at the weapons strapped to their thighs. He regarded them warily, eyes running over them. He didn’t recognize the uniforms.

He cursed as one of them spotted him, taking off immediately. He was twenty steps away from the last door and if his calculations were correct, then the soldiers were about fifty steps behind him. He may just have enough time to hide. He slid the door open, eyes racing around as he moved to the middle of the room. He froze in terror at the sight of bare walls, nothing but a few building materials littered the floor. He swallowed thickly.

“Hey, Doc, what are you doing out here?”

He whipped around, backing up a few steps as his eyes landed on a soldier in the doorway. He tilted his head, blinking as the man's foreign words processed through his brain. Was he a doctor? He raised his brows. Were they friendly?

He focused on the soldier's face. He was pretty sure he didn't know this man. He squinted his eyes. There had to be a reason why he didn't remember him. He frowned. Although, at the moment, he wasn’t quite sure who he was either.

Had he been drugged? His eyes widened. Was the state employing new tricks? He backed up a step. His mind jumbled, a barrage of thoughts pelting his already aching head.

Why were soldiers after him? Were they still fleeing from Prague? He glanced around. Was that his memory? Or his fathers? His brows furrowed. What does father look like?

The soldier moving closer had his head snapping up. ”Nepřibližujte se!" He cried, backing away as his eyes searched the room. He shoved his tumultuous thoughts aside. He may not be able to remember his father's face but he could remember his warning. 'Je lepší mít se na a, než se nechat zajmout, mé dítě. Jen tak zůstaneš v bezpečí.' Yes, it is better to be wary.

The soldier shot him an empathetic look, his palms held toward him, “It’s okay Doc, you're just sick.”

He held a hand to his head as the words filtered through, his brain slowly deciphering them into something comprehensible. What language is this man speaking?

Two more soldiers showed up in the doorway. He took another step back. No, no, that is not okay. He backed up again, his foot hitting something metal. He peeked down at the floor before snapping his eyes back up, “Nechte mě na pokoji.” He growled.

“Relax Dr. Zelenka,” The man placated. “You’re just sick, alright?” The soldier took another step forward. "Please come with us."

No, no, no, he could not go with this man. He needed to hide, he needed to stay safe. People were counting on him. He wasn’t sure who. His family? Yes, that’s right, his family was counting on him. He bared his teeth, “zůstaňte vzadu.”

The other two soldiers moved closer, starting to surround him. “We’re just here to help.”

Kurva, what is that language? Something with an E, or G? He clenched his teeth. An A? He could feel it on the tip of his tongue. Anglický! His eyes widened. Anglický, English! “You stay back.” He yelled, eyes falling on a hatch in the wall.

“We promise you’re safe.” The soldier on his left said, moving between him and the hatch.

His lip curled. Cutting off his escape route? No, these were not friends. He slit his eyes, snatching up the metal pole. He struck the soldier, knocking him to the side. He dodged around the stumbling man, running to the hatch and wrenching it open.

“Dr. Zelenka!”

He glanced back. A fourth soldier entered the room, wielding a strange weapon at him. Clearly not friends. He slid his weapon in before diving inside, one of the soldier's arms reaching through, grasping at him.

“Dr. Zelenka!”

The men must have been too large to fit or surely he would have been followed. He glanced down the way he had come. He gasped in fear at his blurred vision before remembering to place his glasses back on. He sighed in relief.

He forced himself to keep moving, only stopping when he could no longer hear their cries. He leaned up against the wall, sliding slowly to the floor. One hand pressed to his chest, trying to quell the frantic beat of his heart.

His breath came out in harsh pants, the heat steaming up his glasses. He removed them, cleaning the lenses before using his sleeve to wipe the sweat off his face.

A burst of static sounded, “Zelenka, this is Sheppard. Come in.”

He snapped to the left, “Who is there?” His shaking hands slid down to grip the metal pole as he stared into the empty darkness. Is he hearing voices? He blinked rapidly. Could he be going insane? He took a deep breath. No, no, he heard someone.

The need was more than pure survival. He'd been there before, knew deep down that he could recognize the difference. No, he absolutely could not be taken. He had been tasked with something important and regardless of the massive holes in his memory, three thoughts came in with perfect clarity.

He grasped at his ear, fingers brushing something foreign. He held the object between his thumb and forefinger looking it over in confusion. Some sort of communication device?

His eyes widened. They might be tracking him right now. He threw it down the shaft before heading in the opposite direction. His knuckles whitened as his hand tightened over the rod. He had to keep moving. He would not allow himself to be taken.

He must hide. Must stay safe. His family is counting on him.
