it's actually a very common misconception, because the misconception has been intentionally perpetuated by antis, that proship means "problematic" or that a person who says they are proship personally ships anything that antis specifically don't like, which can include things like age gaps, incest, etc. they might or they might not. that is not even part of the definition.

proship: literally pro (supporting, in favor of) shipping (imagining fictional relationships between characters for funsies).

Even though it may seem silly, these labels do not mean the same thing! Each one has its meaning and use even though they sound "similar".

Proshipper:

A person who is "pro" (for) shipping in general. Typically refers to someone who follows the philosophy "ship and let ship" and ignore or blocks ships or shippers they are uncomfortable with. An anti-censorship stance that promotes currating your own experience online, and avoiding any content you don't want to interact with, while supporting the rights of others to create and consume any type of fiction they enjoy.

Your basic "idea" would be:

don't harass people, especially over fiction

curate your own internet experience

tag your stuff and blacklist stuff

Comshippers - Comship

A ComShipper is someone who enjoys more complicated or complex ships. These can include "dead dove" content, morally gray, problematic, socially unacceptable, abusive, or toxic dynamics. Comshippers do not endorse these things in the real world, but enjoy them in fiction.

Most comshippers are proshippers, but MOST proshippers are not comship.

Anyone else remember the time a few years ago where whenever you put "anti harassment" or "antihara" on your blog with out ANYTHING else even related to shipping, let alone shipping discourse, and people would come out of the wood works in your asks telling you how "anti hara is a proship dog whistle" or how they "hope youre not proship, every account that says antihara seems to be" or whatever. Like.... If your first response to seeing someone being against harassment is to assume they're proship... Maybe that should tell you something about how violent and gross the antiship community is? Like if you see someone going "I'm against harassing random people" and your immediate reaction isn't "that's good" but instead is "that's the morals of the group I hate, I need to make sure this person isn't icky and gross like them" maybe you should like, I dunno, reevaluate yourself?? Maybe think about WHY you don't associate being a decent person with your own community?
