Another classic act of dark magic to pass on to the next generation! Nothing more petty than becoming an archmage just to waste all of your energy pouring that same pettiness into adventuring gear that causes those pesky adventurers who foiled your evil plot last tuesday to have fatal “Accidents”.

So sorry to hear that your monk friend’s boots seemed to trip him just as he tried to jump across that crevasse dooming him to fall forever. Slowly.

So I pulled some mostly random Magic: the Gathering cards together to make this D&D 5e magic item based on what their artwork looks like what effect they'd produce. It's mildly inspired by "The Deck of Many Things" but a lot more forgiving. This is my first time making an item like this so some feedback would be great if it is needed. If it looks interesting please go use it or change it to your liking. I'd love to hear stories of this item in action.

The Deck of Boons

Magic Item (Wonderous) Very Rare(???)

This deck of cards is stored in a very pristine deck box made of wood taken from the finest Arborean trees. It also has gemstones of various kinds embedded into it although there is usually at least one emerald.

You can use an action to draw a card from the deck, activating it's effect according to the "Deck of Boons Table" as seen below.

Any spells that are cast use Constitution as it's spellcasting ability, a spell attack modifier of your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier, and a Spell Save DC of 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier

-Wave-Wing Elenental

Summon an Illusion of a Water Elemental. If you are at least character level 10 this Elemental is not an Illusion and is tangible.

-Earth Elemental 

Summon an Illusion of an Earth Elemental. If you are at least character level 10 this Elemental is not an Illusion and is tangible

-Air Elemental 

Summon an Illusion of an Air Elemental. If you are at least character level 10 this Elemental is not an Illusion and is tangible

-Fire Elemental 

Summon an Illusion of a Fire Elemental. If you are at least character level 10 this Elemental is not an Illusion and is tangible

-Blazing Sunsteel

A flaming sword appears in your hand. It is a +1 magical Longsword that can cast Green-flame blade on itself at will. This sword only stays in existence for 10 minutes

-Spellweaver duo

Make a duplicate of yourself via the "Simulacrum" spell except the duplicate only lasts 1 minute or until it is reduced to 0 hit points. It also appears with all of your non-magical eqquipment but does not do anything unless you command it to do something using your bonus action.

-Knightly Valor

This card summons a guard. It is friendly to you and your allies and goes immediately after you in initiative. It speaks in a slightly inhuman tone and moves a bit robotically.

Bathe in Dragonfire

You have the ability to cast the Dragon's Breath spell once for one minute

Form of the Dinosaur

You transform into an Allosaur as if under the effect of the Polymorph spell

Jade Guardian

You can cast the spell Shield once within the next minute

Aggressive Urge

You enter an aggressive state as your emotions begin to take over. You are now under the effects of the Rage feature outlined in the Barbarian class

Oakenform

You are now under the effect of the Barkskin spell

Mighty Leap

You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed and gain advantage on Dexterity checks while you are in the air. This effect lasts 1 minute. If you are in the air when the effect ends you slowly float to the ground over the course of a single round and take no fall damage.

Giant Growth

Your entire body expands as you are now under the effects of Enlarge side of the Enlarge/Reduce spell

Neutralize 

You can cast the spell Counterspell once for the next minute

Revitalize

Heal 2d4+4 hit points to yourself or another creature 10 ft from you

Courage in Crisis

You are now immune to the Frightened and Charmed conditions and have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks

Spectral Reserves 

You or one creature within 10ft of you is now under the effect of the Spirit Guardians spell

Cosmotronic Wave

A 2nd Level Thunderwave is cast centered on yourself.

Lightning Strike 

You now have the ability to cast Lightning Bolt once for the next minute

And yes, Gladius has hair that he doesn't take care of properly. And Funel is disappointed that his friend's horns are not real, now he can't call him "horned cattle".

NEW SPELL!!  This one is a work in progress. I’m not satisfied with the art so I will likely try again once I learn how to draw lava. There are also a few things that will likely need to be tweaked. I kept the damage lower than falling in actual lava (which is briefly discussed in the traps section of the DMG pg 249) and tried to word the spell so that the AOE would be constrained but not specific. I imagined the magical lava is only a thin layer so you don’t get submerged. Please share any and all critiques. I will do errata below :)  The Floor is Lava 5th level Conjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range/Area: special Components: V,S,M* Duration: 1 hour (concentration) Attack/Save: Dex Save Damage/Effect: Fire Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer, Druid  You cause the ground floor within one room of a humanoid dwelling, in which you occupy, to become a magical facsimile of molten lava. This lava floor spreads around inanimate obstacles and supports objects, and furniture without damaging them. For the duration the floor is considered difficult terrain.  A creature making contact with the floor when the lava appears can make a Dexterity saving throw to pull themselves onto a raised platform it can reach, thus avoiding the lava. On a failed save the creature takes 5d8 fire damage. A creature takes the same damage if it touches the floor for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there.  When the spell ends the lava vanishes as if it never appeared.  At higher levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d8 and the lava can spread to one additional room in the structure per spell slot above 5th.  *(a tiny piece of Sulphur smudged carpet or rug)  As with all my items, these will also be uploaded to @dndbeyond to freely use in your campaign. Unpopular DnD opinion

Vatican magic is a dumb system for an in universe setting, Discworld aside. Like, I get the point of it from a gameplay balancing issue but there's something about a wizard just flat out forgetting to how to cast, say, Fireball, that just comes off as, well, dumb to me.

A more complex, reality warping spell I can get the logic of forgetting that when cast but applying that logic to all spells and having a limited number per day just seems so... artificial I guess.

Also the spell names are bland as hell. Dr. Strange would not approve. ;)

Oh, I basically invented this move! Nothing evokes more fear on your conquest than summoning a towering symbol of walking death, and marching it through the center of town. Or several. “Summon Undead Giant” is kind of a lame name for a spell I used to conquer kingdoms, but I guess it has been made easier for consumption.
