The most remarkable thing about the last election was actually Bernie Sanders, not Trump. Bernie Sanders broke with a century of American political history. In American elections, for… back to the late 19th Century, elections are basically bought, literally. You can predict, with remarkable accuracy, electability, simply on the basis of campaign funding. Also policies. There’s very substantial political science research on this. Bernie Sanders came along, no support from the corporate sector, no support from the wealthy, the media simply dismissed him as ridiculous, he was basically unknown, he even used a scare word: “socialist”; and he would have won the Democratic nomination if it hadn’t been for the shenanigans of the ides of march party managers. If you take a look at popularity today, he is far and away the most popular figure in the American political system.

Wait, What? How Could Chuck Todd Not Ask Tom Perez This Question? Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez started off with a lie and it went downhill from there. Perez claims that the Democrats brought a lawsuit against the Trump campaign, Russia, and WikiLeaks over hacked emails because they have seen “a mountain of evidence of collusion between the campaign and the Russians.” Of course, Chuck Todd never bothered to ask "What mountain of evidence? At another point, Todd asked Perez "Why to bring the lawsuit now?" Perez replied something about the statue of limitations. Amazingly Todd asked the proper follow-up question, which was "When does the statute of limitations run out?" Perez hesitated for just an instant as the shock of seeing Chuck Todd act like a real reporter wash over him. But after a split second, he recovered and proceeded to totally ignore what Chuck Todd asked him. Which Perez did for a very good reason, he probably knew the odds were in his favor that Chuck Todd would not be a real reporter twice in a row. Chuck Todd the bumbling baboon did just that and moved on to another question. But the running theme through the seven-minute long interview was Perez was crying "We need to protect our democracy" and his even more asinine statement "We want fair elections." Of course, I and the other ten people watching meet the press immediately thought "YOU POS! You want fair elections, so did Bernie Sanders." But what seemed obvious to us eleven people wasn't so obvious to Chuck Todd because he never asked the one question that was begging to be asked. Despite at least five times different times that Perez set himself up for the Bernie Sanders question, Chuck Todd just segued right into another question My God Chuck Todd even asked a Hillary question, asking "What does Hillary think of the lawsuit" URGGG worst F'ing host EVER! All Chuck Todd had to add was "What does Hillary think of the lawsuit considering there were accusations by Donna Brazile about the DNC rigging the Democratic primaries?" But nope good ole sleepy eyes didn't bother to ask anything harder than "What's your favorite color socks?" Poor Tim Russert he's rolling over in his grave at what has happened to his once respected show, what an absolute disgrace Chuck Todd is. For an entire week in 1968, protesters and the Chicago police skirmished, on national television, with the whole world watching. Finally, that Wednesday—nomination day—15,000 people moved into Grant Park in the heart of downtown Chicago for an anti-war MOBE rally. During some speeches, a shirtless, long-haired man began to lower the American flag (planning, it was later reported, to turn it upside down in the international symbol of distress). But as he removed the flag, the police suddenly snapped. They charged into the crowd, swinging billy clubs indiscriminately, seizing demonstrators, clubbing them, and tossing them into paddy wagons.  A 2008 NPR special details the way the Democratic nomination process was radically revised after the 1968 fiasco at the Chicago Convention in order to win back the droves of disgusted voters who’d abandoned the party, and a major component of that revision was giving the people a voice in the nominating process by instituting primaries and caucuses. Had they not done this, had they not promised the American people a fair and balanced democratic primary process, the Democrats risked losing party viability and being replaced by another party that was more appealing for voters to engage with. By admitting that they have been lying about taking this promise seriously, the DNC is admitting that its party probably should have perished sometime in the 1970s. They deceived the American people into letting them remain. Prior to giving the people a voice in the nomination process, the DNC selected the Democratic nominee internally, the result of which was what provoked the 1968 riots in the first place.

Give the DNC full marks for honesty about their dishonesty. In response to a lawsuit brought by supporters of Bernie Sanders, the DNC argued in court last week that they have no responsibility to remain neutral in (rigged) primaries. In fact, the Democratic Party’s attorneys said, they’d be well within their rights to return to the proverbial smoke-filled back rooms to choose their nominee — even though their own rules state that the DNC chair and staff have to remain neutral in primaries.

On April 28 the transcript was released from the most recent hearing at a federal court in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on the lawsuit filed on behalf of Bernie Sanders supporters against the Democratic National Committee and former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz for rigging the Democratic primaries for Hillary Clinton.

Throughout the hearing, lawyers representing the DNC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz doubled down on arguments confirming the disdain the Democratic establishment has toward Bernie Sanders supporters and any entity challenging the party’s status quo.
