Ugh unf omg I'm living for these recent posts of yours! First off, to the person who mentioned spooning tummy rubs--like, that is my weakness. I do it to my dude and it makes me melt. Aaaaaaaaa. And all this lovin on Hopper/David Habour's thick self is making me so happy. Any dumpstery thoughts on him in those tight white shirts in the Tide ads? Because I'm so here for that. (Sorry, I sound hella thirsty like damn.)

Ahhhh! Girl, I know, it is a marvelous time to be alive.

And seriously, I am just as thirsty as you. Like…my thoughts on David Harbour in the Tide commercial are basically just like “ALSJDHDHS I would eat a Tide pod for the opportunity to sit in his lap.” That’s what I’ve been reduced to.

But seriously. He’s so thick and gorgeous and he is having a fucking moment right now and it’s beautiful. Blessed.

The Osiris Club Fanart!!

Sooooo I did a thing. I commissioned some art from @dixxiemae who is a total dream and an incredible artist— seriously if you want some dope fanart she’s your girl.

I’m so happy and obsessed with the way it turned out! It’s exactly how I envisioned the scene in my head as I wrote it. I’m living for all the little details like his scars and eyes, Angel’s shadow in the first one, that neon glow that is just the right amount of sleazy and tacky— super on brand for the club lol!

Ugh thank you so much again, girl! It’s perfection 👌🏼

Sooooo... Maybe you've talked about this before? And we all love fat Chris Pratt, but thoughts on chubby Star Lord? I'm interested in anything​ you think on that :)

GIRL.  We have not really talked about this in the dumpster, actually.  I mean, we’ve talked about Chris Pratt, OF COURSE, because he is married to One of Us, and he’s adorable, and he is sometimes fat and it’s a beautiful thing.  But we have NOT talked about chubby Star Lord, specifically, and we really should.

I mean, look at him.

And like…he’s just got that good frame, right?  Like the kind of man that you know could eat a pan of lasagna if you put it in front of him, and would never order light beer?  You know the type. 

And just imagine this size Chris in the Star Lord get up:

I wanna first say I'm so happy to see you happy with your writing career! I've been following you since before then, and it's really inspiring. I know I've asked you some advice before, so I hope you don't mind if I do again... because really, I'm in a place in my career/life where you really motivate me with what you do. I'm so close to being able to transition to a self-employed creator, but I'm overwhelmed with what I need to tackle first. Any general advice you might have from experience?

OK I thought about this a lot since you sent it. 

When you’re in a place like you are--meaning that you’ve been doing your thing for a while and you understand what it’s going to take to make it work--I think the very best thing you could do is to just get out of your own way. Just jump in.

Stop worrying about what you’re going to do first. If you’re aware of what needs to be done to probably make it work, then you’re ahead of the game and you’re at the point where you’re ready to jump in.

My best advice would be to borrow/save whatever money it’s going to take for you to make the transition and just quit your day job and start working on being a creator. Things will fall into place so fast because the minute you’re not balancing ten bullshit things at a time that are all intended to make someone else rich and you need to make your self employment work in order to survive, it will become immediately apparent which thing needs to get done first.

If I hadn’t gotten fired, I probably never would’ve quit my job to do this full time. I’d probably still be “putting the finishing touches” on a book that was never going to go live. I would’ve invested so much time into getting that one perfect, and then when it didn’t immediately make me enough money to survive, I probably would’ve talked myself out of writing instead of writing more and more and more to see what stuck and what didn’t.

Take the leap of faith. Allow yourself to fuck up. Move on to the next thing immediately. You’re only going to have to fuck up a few times until you know exactly what you need to do.

This doesn’t just apply to the creative process, either. It applies to marketing yourself, selling your stuff, talking about your work, saving the right amount of money... 

I think the hugest reason to jump in is the fact that you can work much faster--and therefore you get through that period of fucking up much faster and start making the money you need to survive. 

I hope this helps and I’m so excited to see what you do next!

Wow this is great! I know I always ask about your technique on your art, so I hope I’m not bugging you! But do you use any references for the lighting/ shading on this?

Of course you’re not bugging me, I enjoy when people ask me for art advice ^^ On this drawing I didn’t actually use any reference because it started out as just a sketchy warm-up thing, but I would recommend using references for things, I was a little rebel and didnt bother! But what did help me was being aware of the light source whilst colouring, from the right hand side, and think about where the light would touch; obviously have varying levels of light intensity as it works back to the darkest point. I like to add little thin highlights in white to the edges where the light source is brightest. It takes a lot of practise to get used to where the light should be, it will come naturally eventually, just keep doing practise sketches while studying references. I’m far from a pro but I’m working on it. Hope I’ve helped, I rambled a little bit but I hope I made sense!!

This may be a dumb question, but what is your method for making this dark while keeping clear highlights? i just love how you do this!

Uhhhh

First you overlay a dark color (i used a dark grey) over the line art

And then you add some shadows and highlights in another layer(s)

And then other layer with an darker shadow color than the prev. (black)

And then you add another layer of black and make it on "multiply" and then with a fluffy brush or low opacity brush erase the areas you highlighted earlier and then you can mess with the opacity of the layer to your likeness. 

Yeah. That's it.
