Oh yeah, @cruelfeline I found the cloak entry about the First Tanta fighting something with allies:
Tumblr media
Nice and vague, could have been anything, but I'm still choosing to believe that was Susurrus. First Tanta fought him directly, her seven warriors kept the Rheddig or any minions he summoned at bay.
And just for kicks I checked the other equipment entries to see if I could find anything for sure about these "seven trusted warriors," and I found... less than seven lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or at least less than seven that explicitly state these people had a connection to the First Tanta. There's nine cloaks and four necklaces that were sealed in the Labyrinths, any of them could have belonged to those warriors.

I rewatched The Cross My Heart Job a few days ago and I keep thinking about one scene.
it's the episode that starts with the crew arriving at the airport after a long job, when Nate notices a dead-drop happening and they have a little over an hour to get back a donor heart and save a kid's life.
a main element of the episode is everyone improvising, since they have no equipment. Parker says her lockpicks are in customs. we see a flashback of Hardison's laptop sinking in the ocean. we get an explanation for everything. comms are water damaged. Sophie always travels with heels.
but then we get this scene:
Tumblr media
and there are two things I keep thinking about.
Eliot's arm is bandaged, some blood even soaked through. and while he does mention fighting three ex-Brazilian combat divers with spearguns underwater (because of course he did that), it's just a passing comment in his bickering with Hardison. but I just really like this attention to detail. Eliot tending to his injuries is common to see, but we usually see him getting those injuries too. this time we fon't see the fight, not even in a short flashback, but we still see the aftermath.
just. how causally Parker and Eliot start undressing in front of each other? I'm sure by this point they are long used to having to share personal space and not always having privacy, but it's still a striking difference to the previous times when both Eliot and Hardison's reaction was to immediately turn away and give Parker space.

Mx. Narcissist Cookbook - I was listening to Gendering Teddy, as one does, and there's the line about the deactivator for a mark 1 torpedo and I wanted to ask: is that a funny heehee throwaway line or did you parents also keep defunct military grade weapon parts around?
my dad was a diver with a special interest in early-mid 20th century navy stuff, and Lamlash Bay (where i grew up) was used as a naval base of sorts during the wars so it's a hotbed of sunken military equipment, and we had a deactivator sitting in our living room for my whole life
(some of these details might be wrong, i'm unfortunately unable to check them with him)

In the early morning hours of May 26, 2013, Nigerian cook Harrison Okene found himself in a nightmare scenario aboard the tugboat Jascon-4 off the coast of Nigeria. The vessel capsized due to heavy ocean swells, trapping Okene in a small air pocket within the ship's wreckage as it sank to the seafloor, nearly 100 feet below the surface.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Okene managed to stay in that pocket of air in the ship's overturned hull, where he awaited rescue. Over the next three days, he battled hypothermia, dehydration, and complete darkness.
Okene's miraculous survival came on the third day when divers from DCN Global, a Dutch company engaged in the recovery operation, stumbled upon him during their search for what they presumed were bodies. Equipped with video cameras, one diver was astonished to see a hand reaching out from the darkness. Okene, against all expectations, was alive.
The rescue operation, captured on the diver's helmet camera, showed the meticulous process of bringing Okene to safety. Fitted with an oxygen mask, he was carefully guided out of the air pocket and transferred to a diving bell, then to a decompression chamber for another 60 hours to prevent decompression sickness.

What would happen if MC was a sea diver? Maybe she was exploring a ship reck and the siren boys bumped into them? How would they react?
Sans: He's much more calm, when she's a diver. There's something about her already being in his territory... rather than meeting her on land and wanting to drag her into the water, he meets her in the water, and needs to not give her any reasons to stop coming to the water. No need to be scary. Just take it slow.
They had a very tender moment at their first meeting. After first sighting one another, they spent a long few minutes just watching each other. In the same way that you wouldn't expect to see an actual orca while scuba diving in relatively shallow water, Mc wasn't expecting to see an orca siren. There was also an undeniable magic to the moment, staying still as possible and holding eye contact with a highly intelligent creature from an entirely different world to your own. When he did draw in, it was slow, mutual studying - she looked at every line and scar, he pretended to care about her equipment so she wouldn't be weirded out by him constantly staring deeply into her pretty eyes. The only physical contact they shared was a single brush of her hand against his (the only part of her not covered by wetsuit) before he left, cautious not to overstay his welcome and intimidate her.
He follows her around but rarely initiates contact. He enjoys 'playing'; showing her interesting things, retrieving lost items, introducing her to new and exciting wildlife and dive spots. He's going to get her to trust him. He just has to be patient.
Red: Y'know those videos of sharks coming right up to a diver for scritches? That's him. Unlike Sans' cautious and slow approach, Red was very Red, and upon spotting her just bulldozed right over to her. She tried to be a responsible diver and not interact at all with wildlife, staying on the seafloor and slowly backing away from him, but Red wasn't gonna let that happen - and what's she going to do, swim away? Cute. She can't outswim him. On their first meeting he squeezed any part of her he could reach before she could pull out of range again (arms, legs, hips,) tapped on her scuba mask, blew bubbles at her, and bit a chunk out of one of her dive buddy's flippers as a warning. He's brazenly flirting.
He 'behaves' when she gives him attention. At first she was genuinely intimidated, but now she treats him like an overenthusiastic large dog. Funnily enough he does genuinely like scritches, especially on the parts of him he can't easily get to, like on his tail and behind his main fin.
He and Sans usually manage to alternate what days they show up to see her, but when they do see each other they frequently get into scraps. Especially if one of them thinks the other is too close. Sans doesn't like Red's forwardness with her, and Red doesn't like a crazed lonely orca being anywhere near his fragile human, but both are unwilling to kill and reveal their bloodthirsty natures. They force themselves to get along... especially when sight of the two giants fighting immediately makes her evacuate the water.
Skull: He was probably living in a wreck she dove in. It's nice and dark, but spacious, and full of interesting trinkets he can collect. On their first encounter, Skull spent most of his time silently stalking Mc in the dark water. She didn't notice him until the very last second; you can imagine the shock and terror at shining a light into a shadowy corner and illuminating a massive grinning face.
She doesn't entirely know what he would've done to her, in the confinement of that wreck, if she hadn't shone the light into his face and startled him long enough to get the fuck out of there. But from that point on, no matter where she dives, if neither Red nor Sans show up Skull will always be there. He makes his aquarium counterpart proud by stealing her things. She doesn't understand why - he gives the items back eventually, so does he even really want them? Is he a kleptomaniac? Is this just a way to get her attention? Who knows. At least he doesn't eat her. He absolutely could; despite regularly diving in groups, nobody ever sees him coming until her kit is already missing.

what rigs do shaft divers usually use? You mentioned kip’s rig was a kingfisher and i was wondering if that’s similar to what kali or others might use
Shaft diving is essentially extreme camping. The vast majority of divers prefer light, agile rigs with extremely efficient power supplies. The trick is carrying capacity. As a shaft diver, you make your living based on what you can carry out of a megacity.
Kip runs a modified Kingfisher M250, which was originally a search and rescue rig used by paramedics and firefighters. They are on the heavier side of the light rig spectrum, with sparing use of metal, and reinforced jacks specialized for carrying bodies out of dangerous places. Kip has modified his kingfisher for mobility, adding slide rails for quick movement on smooth surfaces, trimmed plating to reduce weight, and the ever-important grappling harness.
Kali is a bit of an outlier for running a heavy frame like the HR&R Pauldron. The biggest danger is running out of power and going deadweight, stranding your rig and all your equipment. But Kali was essentially raised to tinker with industrial machinery, and is an experienced diver who knows how to navigate from energy oasis to energy oasis. Kali's rig reflects her patient and methodical nature. She has swapped out the standard high-endurance core for a much lower capacity bioreactor capable of (very) slowly regenerating itself.
Choice of equipment is consequential as well. Shaft diver weaponry must perform double duty as a survival tool. For instance, kip's river hooks double as climbing bracers, similar to a mountaineer carrying ice picks. Kali's kinetic wrench is quite literally a wrench, which can be used to repair both her rig, and abandoned machinery she finds in the teleths.
