"[...] I think the thing that was most interesting to me about [Annabeth] was that she was just as lonely as Percy was, without a mom who loved her in the same way. And so, what does it mean to grow up like Percy did, feeling like there's no one like you, and you can't really connect to anybody, and not have Sally telling you it's okay? And so, from there, it felt a little bit like, that's probably a kid who maybe struggles to make friends in a meaningful way, or a kid who doesn't know what it's like to have a friend who's a real peer who can understand where they're coming from. That story's in the book, and to kind of bring it out in the mix and let that be the way we approach the launch of Percy and Annabeth, so that what you're watching in the first half of the season is them realizing, "You're the first person I've ever felt this way about." [...] If you feel that while you're watching it, then we're on the fairway, at least, I think, in terms of where we should be and, hopefully, we're pretty close to the bullseye of where we want that story to go, eventually."

Disney+ PJO is best adaptation for the sole fact that they included Percy's desire to pop off at Ares on sight, that beef is eternal and I'm glad to see it unfold on the screen

I've let a lot of changes slide in the Percy Jackson TV show, but I cannot abide this one.
Annabeth does not squish spiders. She runs. That's canon. I know they're making a point, but still. Annabeth runs from spiders we know this.

I haven't watched it yet but everyone saying the show is doing such a great job of showing Percy's anger, more so than the books, is really making me chuckle. Maybe it's because I ditched the PJO-verse after HOO, and never got into any of Riordan's other books (just outgrew it, I guess) while still re-reading the original series but. I actually feel like it's the fandom who seems to have forgotten Percy's characterization.
He's either a silly idiot or "persassy" or "dark percy" in the fandom with almost zero inbetween, but at least from what I've seen in the gifs floating around, Percy matches his book counterpart pretty well. He was a silly little guy, but he was also always doing this for his mom, he was always mad at the gods for abandoning him. He faces up against Ares, he complains about doing stuff for the Olympians from the start. He was SO bitter that Poseidon claimed him just so Percy would clear his name, he always only said yes to the quest bc Chiron said he had to go to the Underworld - which meant a shot at saving Sally. Ofc, it's paradoxical with his desire to win his dad's approval (... in the books at least, I know they changed the sacrifice scene, so I dunno if this will remain), bc he's an abandoned kid who wants to understand why Dad would leave and wonders if it's because of him, but -- "I'm impertinent", it was a complaint just as much as a desire to be seen.
Basically from what I've seen, Percy seems to have the exact vibe of his book self, I think it's people who have forgotten it since his characterization has been continuously dilluted ever since the second series came out to the point where he's almost like a wholly different person in the current stories.

I can't be the only one who fully expected Grover to try to teach the consensus song to the god of war, right?

Listen if Lin Manuel Miranda is Hermes then I want Hermes to be Lin Manuel Miranda. Like in the Percy Jackson universe, the writer of Hamilton is the god Hermes, and everyone is really confused when they see him for the first time cause they knew him as Lin Manuel Miranda first. Also it could be revealed that he wrote Hamilton because of a dare he made with Apollo to see who could write a better musical and Apollo really hates how successful Hamilton is and Hermes never lest him live it down.

I wonder how they are fixing the fact that grover was the equivalent to twelve now (24), but five years ago, when Annabeth arrived he would have been 19, or 9-10 in human age. A NINE YO IS NOT RESCUING SHIT RIORDAN! WTF??
#percy jackson#disney+ pjo#pjo#grover underwood#also never noticed that was the pronunciation of grover (i always said it like groover)#pjo spoilers#<-ig??

i finally finished the disney+ pjo series. overall its, an adaptation. not a retelling but it was good, i think. details below readmore
Okay, I'm still pretty salty about the lack of side characters and camp life being shown. I guess the bit with Luke in the final episode works? But its not enough. We, the viewers, don't really feel like Percy sees the camp as home at this point and that's something very big to his character as the series progresses.
Minor gripes: I'm sad we didn't get the bathtub scene or the DOA Records. I'm sad the Underworld looks like That. Personally, it felt weird even by mythos standards? Like, the desert-scape for Tartarus, the woods for Asphodel just, eh. I did enjoy Hades' palace on the ceiling. That's a good one. (Highest point in the Underworld and as close to Olympus as he can get, nice and well thought.) No acknowledging Zeus' fist as if it isn't going to be important later on.
A little sad Sally didn't turn Gabe to stone. I feel like that's a big turning point for her, not enough to just sell him. Plus the statue should have been him at the poker table, yadda yadda. I feel the entire Gabe and Sally subplot was just fuckin thrown out but different post about why that's important later.
Annabeth being at the Luke v Percy fight?? It being a sword fight?? Backbiter to cut into space/time was neat, now that I'm thinking about it. But I wanted the scorpion(I'd have even taken a spider after they're conversation about Annabeth and Spiders.)
I have issues with Annabeth not being treated like a kid? Yes, she's supposed to know more than Percy, but she should have backed off leading the quest more than she did. She also was given very little space to express anything other than superior knowledge or snark? It did get a little better towards the end of season, I'll admit.
Oh? The furies killing Thalia?? That threw me off??
Things I did like:
The Cerberus scene was good. This was a scene where Annabeth showed a different emotion.
Alecto just being loyal to Hades, no other skin in the game other than trying to get his helm back.
Actors for Hades and Zeus were great. (RIP Lance Reddick)
@amamaxmo pointed out that Kronos' design looked weathered, almost weathered by time kinda deal. She also pointed out that Thalia's tree kinda looked like someone holding a sword and shield. If those were intentional, I do enjoy it.
I think this is about it until I rewatch it and then I'll probably do a video about it?

cmskwifjjejejjf when we finally get the pjo show not only will we just have an accurate thing to watch, but after that we’ll get bloopers from these amazing human beings, and people will make crack videos and compilations of their favourite parts, and there’ll be so many little easter eggs, and more people who don’t like reading can join our fandom, and we can have actual merch like hp has, and we’ll get to watch the actors grow, and we’ll have edits, and we can cry at sad parts without the words going all blurry and needing to stop reading for a bit to continue the book, and rick’ll have something he’s proud of, and we’ll get visual foreshadowing, and cool music behind our favourite scenes, and references in the backgrounds of scenes, and to find out how many greek words we’ve been saying wrong in our heads this whole time, and we’ll get to actually see the monsters and gods and the characters, and we can see camp half blood, our home, some whose home it has only been for a few months and others who’ve felt they belong there for years and some for nearly two decades, and we won’t have to rely on our imagination for it all cos it’s all real and it’s all happening and I can’t wait two years but it’ll be bloody worth the long wait
#i typed this out in notes to myself months ago#but yes im still very very very excited for it#im also excited for the solangelo book but also terrified#(rick i swear if you pull apart my dark/light dopamine giving adorable babies? let's just say some knives will be thrown.)#pjo show#pjo#riordanverse#rick riordan#percy jackson#Percy Jackon and the Olympians#coming soon disney+ says. but it wont be until 2024#ah yes. soon.#percy jackson show#disney+ pjo

I found it a bit weird that they didn't even say why Athena was mad that Medusa fell in love with Poseidon. Obviously a kid's show isn't going to say that it was because Medusa and Poseidon fucked in her temple like in the myth but -- couldn't they have at least said they kissed or something? Medusa literally just says "Poseidon fell in love with me, then Athena got mad." Just didn't give a reason.
I'm watching with my sister who's never read the books and she was wondering if she missed something...
