Out this week: Disney One Saturday Morning Adventures (Fantagraphics, $29.99):

Back in the 1990s Disney launched a magazine called Disney Adventures aimed at kids that could be found at checkout stands and magazine shelves in grocery stores and other outlets. Each issue featured comics based on a lot of the cartoons you could see on the Disney Channel as well as as part of their Saturday morning cartoon block and Disney Afternoon block, like DuckTales, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Gargoyles, Bonkers, Doug, Recess and more. This is an almost 200-page collection of some of those comics, as part of Fantagraphics’ overall deal with Disney to collect previously published materiel into lovely hardcovers.

my star wars hot take will always be that rebels would have worked better in another era. i like some of the characters in rebels but the fundamental concept of “this very small group of people who do everything” works super well for the republic era (where things were actually fought by a small group of separatists and their droids vs the soldiers of the republic) and not for the galactic civil war era which was masses of ordinary people coming together. it would have been cool if they’d set it in the same sort of era as the acolyte or even before that. i like rebels as a story, but i fundamentally disagree with where it’s set.

i promise in every other situation a jedi who wears bright orange to a stealth ops mission, steals from people and makes a lightsaber/gun fusion is my dream character.

i just wanna preface my answer to this with I LOVE REBELS AND I HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE WORKED THAT OUT FROM HOW MUCH I DRAW IT but anon's like... almost right here. rebels' concept isnt "like 6 people who do literally everything" rebels' concept is supposed to be "this hopelessly outmatched and motley group of outcasts try to rebel in whatever way they can". but it comes across as what anon said cause the fundamental issue w this show is that most the time, it's a kids saturday morning cartoon first and story/drama second. which often makes the show/characters feel very tonally inconsistent w its (VERY DARK) setting a lot of the time. and dont get me wrong rebels has some GREAT arcs that feel more in-place with the "6 people help fight galactic fascism" tone and i love this show but i do get what you're saying

The actual reason why Disney is skipping out on the One Saturday Morning nostalgia and going straight from Disney Afternoon to 2000s Disney Channel is because they're too cowardly to admit they radicalized a generation with these shows. Pepper Ann was one of the most feminist Disney cartoons ever made. Teacher's Pet was about embracing your identity even if you weren't born that way. 101 Dalmatians: The Series was about why rich people suck. Recess was about dismantling the establishment board by board.

Raven-Symoné Interested On Developing New Disney Television Animation Series And Reving Some Of The Studio's Old IPs For A New Generation Of Fans.

During the "Big City Greens The Movie: Spacecation" premiere, Raven-Symoné expressed interest on developing some things with Disney Television Animation, such as new shows, films and specials.

Symoné also wants to help revive some of the studio's old IPs for new audiences as part of her overall deal with Disney Branded Television.

"Oh almost definitively, there's actually some projects in my head that i want to work with Disney Channel, not projects that are already out. some new projects and reviving some things that we´ll dive into little later." -- Symoné
