DragonLord Merlin taking on Dragon traits

Merlin with leathery wings. Merlin with scales. Merlin being taken with every shiny rock he sees and keeping up a little collection that is hidden away in his room. Merlin sticking around certain people because all of a sudden his nose got so much better and even though he can't really describe it you smell like safety and love and comfort. Possessive Merlin who is stuck like glue to his Kings back because that is his shining jewel and the most precious piece of his hoard and he'll be damned if anything happens to mess it up. Obsessive Merlin cleaning Arthur's chambers and keeping them nice and neat and warm and comfy so his King doesn't want to ever leave the safety of his room; so his hoard can be protected and looked over and safe.

This is absolutely despicable. Rachel Johnson, who put out the Tortoise podcast last year that first addressed the allegations against Neil, now says that she didn't want Neil to be "cancelled" and admits there was an agenda behind the podcast after all.

To be clear, the concerns people expressed last summer did not and have never had anything to do with the allegations themselves, or not believing the survivors. It is crucial and imperative to believe survivors, but believing survivors does not mean that the people presenting these stories have good intentions. It felt like these stories were being sensationalized/treated as true crime "entertainment" instead of being taken seriously, and sadly this article confirms that those suspicions were merited.

What Rachel has done here is center herself instead of the survivors. Not only is she now defending Neil, she states in the article that she first learned of the assaults in October of 2023 and did nothing with them for several months. And in doing so, she has made it clear that when the podcast was released (on the eve of a UK general election) and how it was presented was entirely intentional and aligned with a TERF specific, transphobic agenda.

This is what many of us feared, and it seems that those fears have now been realized.

Since the release of the Vulture article, Neil has (rightfully) been excoriated and cancelled. It should never have even been necessary for the survivors to give such detailed accounts of their ordeals, but we now unfortunately see why it was. Rachel Johnson's comments and the Tortoise podcast now stand to undermine the survivors and the Vulture article alike, and it is beyond shameful and disgraceful...

the difference between jude and aurélien’s comment section is crazy. jude is getting “it’s okay players have bad games” and aurelien is getting “leave madrid we hate you” and monkey emojis?????????? did they not play the same game? are they not on the same team? let’s be so fucking for real right now people. and i’m sure it’s not just aurel getting this kind of unnecessary hate. people are too comfortable on the internet bullying people. words aren’t just words. the things you say to people matter. it’s never that serious. and the lazy, ignorant, inconsiderate assholes in people in the comments wouldn’t know the first thing about being a professional athlete and losing a game like that in such a harsh way. give them so fucking grace please. they know they didn’t do well, there’s no reason for bullying or racial hatred on their social media (or anywhere). i really hope all the black players are with their families or have someone to talk to for the next couples weeks because this is insane. nobody should be treated like this.

no one ever fucking talk to me about the leviathan dlc and its implications. even thinking about it made me mad again. how do you create a story about artificial intelligence that is a direct consequence of its creator’s hubris (thinking that they, unlike more “primitive” species, could create robots to fix their problems that WOULDN’T rebel and kill them. only for the robots to rebel and kill them.) and also a reflection of their beliefs uninterrogated: that there is no possibility for peace between artificial and organic life, that it must all be extinguished for the sake of “peace”. how do you have a story where one of the main (paywalled. dlc.) squad members is the remnants of an empire that conquered and controlled other species in the same way the leviathans did, and met the exact same fate because their imperial power was an illusion created by the reapers to make them weaker, to make them easier to exterminate. how do you make a story about these cycles, about how the council IS repeating these cycles, they just do it in a “kinder” way, a way with a veneer of democracy while still holding the same kind of power the protheans did over their empire, taking the same corrupted seat and continuing to rule their even after they find out, in mass effect 1, that it was a time bomb of extinction. how do you write all of that. how do you write the geth/quarian conflict and give us an ending that proves that peace and reconciliation is not only possible, but the best option. and then. star child. and you can’t even fucking argue with him that his ideology is bullshit.
