Mild ramble:

I recall seeing this blog before I joined and haven't seen anything from it (haven't opened tumblr in a bit.) To say it was a shock to see toxicity in the discord server was interesting, especially with the thing with sabo and the other person, the entire thing with eriseda/disconsolate/cadaverous, feeling "validated" with the weird vibes from demigodandroid, etc etc.

Makes me question some things as I've seen cadaverous around the server.

Same with NebuRin. Thought it was weird he came back around MM time and asking for more RR goats or something? Doesn't he have enough of them?

ok this is the most minor thing and probably I’m reading way too far into a single letter s. but in GTN ch 1:

“I did offer him stupendous work of a titty nature, and he got offended,” said Gideon. “It was a very perfect moment. The Cohort’s not going to care about that though. Have I mentioned the Cohort? You do know the Cohort, right? The Cohort I’ve left to enlist in… thirty-three times?”

“Save the drama, you baby,” said her sword-master. “I know of your desires.”

“Save the drama, you baby” is a very Aiglamene way to cut her off, but on reread it’s obvious that this is implicitly saying “Save the drama for Harrow.” Like, she isn’t just saying shut up: she’s saying that obviously Gideon is just trying to warm up for her inevitable shouting match with Harrow, and therefore she doesn’t want to hear it twice.

Which makes “I know of your desires” not just a striking word choice but kind of an interestingly ambiguous one. Is this really just referencing Gideon’s desire to flee? Or is it her desire to have a dramatic throwdown with harrow (“Save the drama for Harrow, I know you really only want to start shit with Harrow”)? Could this even mean desire like, you know, capital-D Desire (“I know you really only want to start shit with Harrow and I know why that is”)? Could it in fact be all three desires?? Fleeing to the cohort is one thing: Gideon herself emphasizes that it is one thing she’s done over and over. Why specify desires, plural, immediately after this implicit reference to her obsession with Harrow? How many layers of what’s going on in Gideon’s head does Aiglamene actually see?

Has Aiglamene understood exactly what’s going on here from the very start? How does that change how we read her reaction to Gideon coming back dead? Is that reaction not just, oh shit, Harrow let you die, but oh shit, the girl you were clearly in love with let you die?

just some quick raven cycle au thoughts Under the Cut

Nancy is hunting Welsh kings, pouring over maps of Indiana sketching ley lines. When she talks, people listen.

Steve sacrifices himself to the Upside Down (agrees to be its hands and eyes) to save Dustin and Erica. Let’s say Henry Creel is hunting ley lines too and he tries to perform some really dangerous ritual and that’s when Steve made his sacrifice. It’s not as sinister as the UD on the show, it’s more like a mirror-verse of their town but with the addition of a magic forest everywhere. But still—Steve is possessed by it, sometimes.

Robin comes from a family of psychics but she’s not one, she’s a mirror, she reflects back and increases the power of any psychic—or any magician, so she’ll sit with her back touching Steve’s while he reads tarot cards, or hold his hand while he looks into the depths of a cup of coffee and tries to see what the Upside Down is asking of him today.

Eddie who pulled his electric guitar out of a dream. A thief, just like his dad. He takes things for Steve: a new deck of cards, a pair of tennis shoes, salve for the scars Steve has around his neck, the perfect hair product.

There’s all this magical stuff happening in town, like cars turning up flipped over with no one in them and undamaged, and it’s clear that the ley line is troubled—eventually they learn that Tommy H is taking things from the Upside Down just like Eddie, except he’s draining its energy. Tommy has like a field full of tricked out cars that he’s stolen. He basically does all of it to get Steve’s attention, and he has this rivalry with Eddie because of it.
