Buda Castle Garden Bazaar
The Buda Castle Garden Bazaar may suggest a collection of shops or some kind of market of the Royal Palace, but it has never been one, only in its name. In fact, the Bazaar could be more properly called a Cultural Palace with an Ornamental Garden south of the Buda Castle, covering the slopes and offering a beautiful entrance to the royal complex from the riverbank by the Danube. The garden and its buildings were built in the late 19th century (1875 – 1883) based on the plans of one of Hungary’s leading architects Miklos Ybl. Yb also designed other top Budapest attractions like the Renaissance Revival features of the originally Classicist St Stephen’s Basilica, the Corvinus University along the river Danube (right next to the Budapest Great Market Hall), the Hungarian Opera House on Andrassy Avenue, and a dozen more palaces all over Budapest.
Between WW2 and the 1980s the Buda Castle Garden Bazaar was turned into a youth centre called the Youth Park to offer a controlled and decent entertainment venue for the youth of Hungary, who were to be raised with Communist values (but the youth decided otherwise, especially in 1968 in the year of the Prague Spring).
Until 1984 the Buda Castle Garden Bazaar functioned as an open air disco and concert venue, a hallmark of the communist era.
Today it is more like an art venue for exhibitions, concerts, dance shows, guided tours, film screenings in its cinema, as well as featuring a lovely flower garden and park suitable for proposals and weddings.

Oh, thank goodness Marjo can safely compete. It would have been devastating for them to have waited this long for a Worlds debut and then have to miss a home event. On the subject of the rhythm dance...mashing rhythms together didn't always work back in the days of the short dance. The 2011 Tango/Waltzes were not good and most of the 2013 Polka/Waltzes weren't much better. Not all rhythms go together as well as cha cha/rumba and quickstep/foxtrot because those two pairings literally share the same rhythms but at different speeds! But I thought they were really getting somewhere with the themes at the end of the last quad. Broadway with Finnstep and Street with Midnight Blues allowed for a range of directions and varied music choices while still retaining key point requirements. Sure some of the choices were tacky but it's ice dance, tacky is unavoidable. But there were also many excellent, memorable, diverse, cohesive programs. The pattern matched well with the theme. But jamming a Samba into an 80s theme was never going to work because there's no correlation between the two. They could've just keep going in the same vein as last quad...themes like 'movies' paired with the Golden Waltz (it would allow everything from Fred & Ginger to Mary Poppins to La La Land to Batman to Harry Potter to Sweeney Todd to The Godfather... and that's just off the top of my head, it's hard to find a movie soundtrack that DOESN'T have a waltz), '21st century' with the Ravensburger Waltz (tons of modern pop and soft rock is written in waltz timing), 'folk' or 'national dance of the country you represent' with Yankee Polka would be great fun. That way teams still learn compulsories but audiences wouldn't have to sit through 3 hours of everyone dancing like they're in Vienna in 1889 to the same Blue Danube waltz music. Something authentic like the Kerrs' Scottish dance would be much more likely to go viral today than people trying to pop and lock to Turn Down For What. The obvious answer to the question of how to expand dance outside the narrow range of ballroom/latin seems to me to be...create more compulsories? Hire Scott and Madison and Marie France and Carol Lane and Barbara Fuser-Poli to create jazz/urban/disco/rock/contemporary patterns that could then far more easily be paired with a theme like 80s.
Sorry for the very long rant! It's just frustrating to me that in 2020-2022 they seemed to finally hit on the perfect balance of a RD that combined the more audience friendly aspects of the old original dances with the technical requirements necessary for credibility under IJS while maintaining the foundations of the sport with the pattern, and after cracking the code they're ditching it instead of expanding it. I don't get it.
those seasons, there was still grumbling that the pattern was broken up, including from me lol but you're right, there wasn't a jarring mismatch. there are so many better ideas than dismantling it altogether like they seem intent on doing

So here's the thing: The poll isn't over, and I have to go to work in an hour. I should NOT be going to work in an hour, but I am, and regardless of how I personally feel about that particular situation, it is not going to stop me from sharing the disco.
Also, I really just don't think the numbers are going to change that much in the amount of time we've got left, so fuck it.
Here we gooooo:
It's a shame this Furious Five track remains so relevant. (3%) -- "It's a Shame (Mt. Airy Groove)," Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Getting down on the floor Viennese style. (3.4%) -- "The Blue Danube Hustle -- Part 1," Rice and Beans Orchestra
Riding that future nostalgia wave with the hottest couple around. (4.6%) -- "The Wave," LION BABE ft. Leikeli47
What's my sign? Oh, it's a mirror ball. (4.9%) -- "Tutta Sola," Corine feat. Pino D'Angiò
It's always Bollywood Cocktail Disco Hour somewhere. (5.4%) "Aap Jaisa Koi," Nazia Hassan, Feroz Khan
No jokes here, just the Boss, the Big Man, and the goddamn Queen of Disco. (6.9%) -- "Protection," Donna Summer
The day Miss Mercedes Jones burned down the McKinley choir room. (7.4%) -- "Disco Inferno," Glee Cast
Love is the new metal, and it's fly as hell. (8.5%) -- "Fly," Chicano Batman
Let the spirit of 90s house remixes never die in me. (10.8%) -- "渚にまつわるエトセトラ (TAKE ME TO THE DISCO)," Puffy AmiYumi
When the Queen of Funk enters the room, you get up and you dance to her beat. (11%) -- "Like Sugar," Chaka Khan
Seven aching daddies agree: this mix of postpunk and disco is a banger. (13.6%) -- "Mammoth," Interpol
It's gay music, as in it's a song about eating girls out. (20.3%) -- "Lunch," Billie Eilish
And we are tagging: @madfairy, @pikminplaya, @james-the-idiot, @childoffantasy, @watcherofeternalflame, @missvulpix212, @bre-kachu, @agentcarmillakarnstein, @thedreadpiratecam, @armageddon-eden, @tired-masochist, @themaybewoman, @wannabemylover, @ibelieveinturtles, @hystericblue, @brionne, @sucre-princesse, @salty-seasick, @vagueconfusion, @suffusionofyellow, @abstractlime, @chickletgirl, @books-over-people.
Lest we forget:
BONUS EXTENDED PLAYLIST
'Cause you can never have enough disco.
Okay, have fun, I'm going to get ready for work, I guess.
Tumblr media
(image from: Font generator. Never catch me not doing my attribution when required.)
DISCO.
Tumblr media
Anyway, pick a song from a bad description. You do not have to recognize the song that you choose (although I have certain expectations of my Glee fans, I won't lie). Go from the vibes. Whatever seems funkiest, or funniest, or whatever floats your boat.
At the end of the week, I will make the poll into a playlist, from the song with the lowest amount of votes to the song with the highest amount of votes. If you would like to hear the playlist, leave a comment or put it in your reblog and I will tag you when the playlist goes up. If you really want to know what a particular song is, shoot me an ask and I will answer.
And please reblog the post! Inflict the disco on your friends and followers. They'll thank you for it.
See you in a week, and remember -- stay groovy.

>music asks
2, 5, 6, 15 pls and ty 😍
Hiii thank you for asking bae 🤲🤲
2: Ot but like I always forget what my all time favorites are 💀 Like I’ll be like omg this song is so good it’s my all time fave and then I forget what it is 💀💀 I should really be writing this shit down oops 💀💀💀 For me it’s a tie between Liebestraum No. 3 by Liszt and Italian Polka by Rachmaninov. Both pieces are so pretty in different ways it’s incredible. Liebestraum lirerally sounds like falling in love, and like watching someone play it is so 😧like omg how did you do thatttt 😧😧😧 Liszt is like a god tier composer imo. Italian Polka is so good in a way that’s like two different pieces coming together, fighting to like be the center of the piece. It’s actually really really cool and both the melodies are so beautiful 🙏🙏 and again it’s one of those pieces that are like omg how are you playing this rn that’s literally so crazy looking
5: I haven’t been on a road trip in like 6 years but 💀 Probably Tainted Love, that song is so fun to sing, especially with a lot of people. Or I mean... a group of friends. A lot of people makes it sound like I’m in a car with like 20 other people uhm 💀
6: If we’re talking melody-wise, a classical piece like Liebestraum or Minute Waltz by Chopin is great, or any classical piece for that matter. There’s a really nice piano cover of The Blue Danube by Strauss, I definitely recommend that too (The orchestra ver. is also really good as well.) If we’re talking like uhhhhh lyrics-wise definitely something by Nirvana or Beck. They always inspire me to write like poems and shit. Dead Kennedys also have great lyrics that make me wanna like rant about like... whatever tf they be talking about in the song, whether it be like a scathing satirical piece criticizing politicians, making fun of capitalist government, or literally going crazy (/pos).
15: Oh god where to begin 💀💀 Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra is such a banger I’ve been listening to it a lot lately it’s so pretty aough 😭😭 The pre-chorus is so nice to listen to as well 🙏🙏🙏 When Ya Get Drafted by Dead Kennedys is so so fun love to jump around and go crazy to it 🤞🤞 Girl by Beck is great too, love it a lot. We’ve Got a Bigger Problem Now is so funny (also by Dead Kennedys.) Touch Me by The Doors, From a Mountain in the Middle of the Cabins by Panic! at the Disco (ik but Pretty. Odd. is such a great album Ryan Ross supremacy 🙏), The Alternative Polka by Weird Al, Breakfast in America by Supertramp, etc, etc. I could literally go on and on about all the songs I love to death but I guess I’ll save that for another time 🤞
Love you Kolva 🙏🙏

“If you need to make a writeup to understand a program then it’s not a good program”
1. I wrote that for fun, showing my appreciation as a fan. No need to take it so deep.
2. Believe it or not IAOP was extremely easy to interpret and write about. I didn’t have a problem piecing the parts together at all. It took me less than a hour to write the whole thing; I spent more time finding the right GIFs.
3. Writeups don’t show a program is bad. Do you immediately understand every painting when you look at it? No. Some paintings evoke emotions, some don’t. That doesn’t change the value and effort and story put behind it. If anything, they should help you understand and appreciate it better, if not show you where there are discrepancies in concept and execution.
Case in point: can you tell me the logic behind Alina’s Cleopatra that uses music from films that have nothing to do with Cleopatra? Or why Satoko’s SP is mixing Egyptian hands with disco music—what’s the purpose of that? Or what are the concepts behind Shcherbakova’s free and short program? What is the story Trusova is telling in her Gynt program that warrants an expression through a mid-program costume change?
Good programs are easy to write about. Alina’s Don Quixote shows you a ballerina introducing herself in the beginning of the program, shy at first and then dancing with more confidence and joy in the latter half. Her sleeve change in Black Swan tells a story, too; she’s hinting her transformation. Valieva’s short program is inspired by a painting, but the casual viewer wouldn’t get that either if you weren’t following her closely. Tomoe Kawabata’s costume invokes the picture of a river in her SP to Blue Danube. Yuzuru Hanyu’s Hope and Legacy is a medley that tells a story through Hisaishi’s music.
Programs where the concept is loose and poorly justified are often shallow—it can look bad, it can look pretty, but that doesn’t mean it has depth.
You don’t have to like the program but build yourself some critical thinking skills, otherwise I’ll assume you’re one of those simpletons who think that mid-program costume changes automatically contribute anything substantial to composition and performance. If you think they do, write your own program review and interpretation. Put your brain to work and share it.

I was tagged by @queenofliqht, thank you a whole lot!! ✨
Name: Móna
Nickname: Sadly none. I will forever anyone that gives me a nickname.
Sun/Moon/rising: Gemini Sun, Pisces Moon, Capricorn rising (yes I still can't believe I can actually answer this!)
Age: 20
Fave musician: Lemme be biased and sappy and say my man! I don't like picking favourite musicians, cuz I have no idea who's a good musician. I can tell if I like a piece of music, but can't tell if I like the guitarist's or the bassist's or the drummer's etc. work most...
Fave anime: I used to be really into anime so let's see... First of all, all of Satoshi Kon's movies that I've seen: Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress and Paprika. Then a bunch of Ghibli movies like Pom Poko, Whisper of the Heart, Porco Rosso, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, Spirited Away or Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. And finally, so that it's not just movies: Violet Evergarden, Hyouka, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Durarara!!, Noragami. Angelic Layer and Detective Conan get an honourable mention for getting me through middle school.
Fave video game: I'm really into WoW right now! I play on one of those private servers so I get to play WotLK, good stuff.
Fave vitamine supplement: I don't care about vitamin supplements at all... But Vitamin C comes in orange flavoured chewable tablets so I'll go with that.
Fave addiction: Lemme be sappy again and say love! (But I also find my addiction to greater amounts of carbohydrates than what I need funny so that too)
Fave book: Éjféli iskolák by Veres Attila!! That book is so damn important to me, like a best friend.
Fave way to bathe: I don't really bathe, I take showers. Though sitting in one of those bathtubs with lion paws and having fruits and good vine and a good book on one of those bathing table things does sound nice.
Last time you were in a body of water: 26th of August, my man's birthday party was by the Danube as traditional for him, and I of course went for a swim.
Fave element: Fire for sure!
I'm tagging @disco-lizardd, @feather-canyons, @harshkali-eh, @candyandcurrantbun & anyone else who wants to do it! ☀️

3 and 4 from the newest asks? 🌿but especially 3 and if that's still too wide please tell me something about one artist you just love right now! 😇
3. What is your favorite music genre? AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH. The problem with a question like this is as soon as someone asks, I completely forget every single song I’ve ever listened to.
However, I will endeavor to answer this to the best of my ability, though not so much as a complete list, but more of a general feel. Also, you can always ask me about specific artists/songs/albums/genres that I do or don’t include in this list. (Also, while I would normally hyperlink songs, that’s just so many and I’ve already taken long enough to answer this ask.)
Classical: I know it’s not the proper term for the entire genre if you’re a musician, but you generally get what I’m going at. Of particular note would be Chopin, Vivaldi’s “Winter”, Saint-Saens’ “Danse Macabre”, Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, Beethoven’s 5th and 9th Symphonies, Mozart’s Symphony 40, Mozart’s Requiem, Strauss’ “Blue Danube”, Holst’s “Mars, the Bringer of War” Tschaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”, Rossini’s “William Tell Overture.” Stuff generally along those lines.
Ballet/Opera: Ballets include Tschaikovsky's Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, Bizet’s Carmen, Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore and “The Drinking Song” from La Traviata and “La donna è mobile” from Rigoletto. Honorary mention goes to Verdi’s Macbeth because, I mean, it’s Macbeth, you can’t go wrong with Macbeth.
Musical Theater: I f*cking love musical theater, so if you want to send me more specific musical theater asks, knock yourselves out, but there’s just so much that I couldn’t even start. Just know that I define “Musical Theater” as basically Gilbert & Sullivan to present-day Broadway/West End.
Jazz: I specifically really like classic club jazz, the sort of swing/big band stylings of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, et al. I also really like East Coast Jazz (an informal term that refers to not-West Coast Jazz), like John Coltrane.
Big Band/Swing: Glenn Miller, Harry James, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, etc. You get the idea.
Country: Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, John Denver, Dusty Springfield.
Metal: Dragonforce, Metallica, Black Sabbath.
Classic Rock: Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Animals (of “House of the Rising Sun” fame), Pink Flyod, Jimi Hendrix, Credence Clearwater Revival, Blue Oyster Cult, and all that other good dad music. The only exceptions are Jimmy Buffet (he’s fine, he’s just not in my rotation) and Grateful Dead.
Memes: If the song is a meme, or used in a meme, I like it.
Songs That Never Fail to Get White People Beyond Turnt: That whole list? BOPS.
70s/80s: Journey, Kansas, “Heat of the Moment” by Asia, Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, Tears for Fears, etc.
Hip Hop/Rap: I really like sort of “classic”/“old school” hip hop and rap, like N.W.A., The Notorious B.I.G., “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang, Tupac, and the sort of 80s-early 00s hip hop and rap. I also enjoy Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X. This is a genre that I really need to sit down and listen to more often, because it’s definitely something I’ve grown into.
Emo: Evanescence, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Green Day.
Soundtracks: Movie and game soundtracks are awesome. Like with musical theater, ask me about specifics, but to give you a vague idea: Schindler’s List, Dark Souls III, Legend of the Colossus, Undertale, Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption II, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and pretty much 99% of Disney (specific shoutouts to Hunckback, Hercules, and Mulan). Plus, I love me some Hans Zimmer.
Honorable Mention: The sort of cinematic, Southern Gothic music that “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac or “Ghost Riders in the Sky” by Johnny Cash evokes. Check out the trailer for Netflix’s “Remastered: Robert Johnson” for another great example.
Misc/I Don’t Know How Genres Work: Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Supremes, Heart, Joan Jett, Billy Joel, Daft Punk, “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Robert Johnson, saintmotel, Misterwives, Fats Domino, Lorde, Billie Eilish, Janelle Monae.
I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of stuff I like, but that just shows how eclectic my taste in music is.
If there’s anything you think I missed, or want clarification or to ask a more specific question, feel free to ask!
4. Have you ever had a penpal? Not really, no. I mean, I’ve written various kinds of letters to people as part of school assignments over the years, but I never really went back and forth with one person. I always thought it would be kind of fun though.

Kipchoge ran the fastest time ever over the marathon distance, but for heated reasons that get at the heart of the sport, he did not run a marathon. One hour and 59 minutes is fast in a way that’s difficult to comprehend. Despite the formidable distance, Kipchoge ripped through each mile of his run in about four and a half minutes. This speed would feel like an all-out sprint to almost anyone who could keep up with him in the first place. To sustain this blistering pace, Kipchoge ran under conditions that had been painstakingly and exclusively arranged to push him beyond the two-hour barrier. The INEOS 1:59 Challenge was not a race by any strict definition: It was simply Kipchoge, joined by a rotating phalanx of pacesetters, rocketing along the pavement against the clock. The planning that went into the event was a fantasy of perfectionism. The organizers scouted out a six-mile circuit along the Danube River that was flat, straight, and close to sea level. Parts of the road were marked with the fastest possible route, and a car guided the runners by projecting its own disco-like laser in front of them to show the correct pace. The pacesetters, a murderers’ row of Olympians and other distance stars, ran seven-at-a-time in a wind-blocking formation devised by an expert of aerodynamics. (Imagine the Mighty Ducks’ “flying V,” but reversed.) Kipchoge himself came equipped with an updated, still-unreleased version of Nike’s controversial Vaporfly shoes, which, research appears to confirm, lower marathoners’ times. He had unfettered access to his favorite carbohydrate-rich drink, courtesy of a cyclist who rode alongside the group. And the event’s start time was scheduled within an eight-day window to ensure the best possible weather. The whole thing was as close as you can get to a mobile marathon spa treatment—if going to a spa were paired with the worst discomfort of your life.

Audio
                                                                                                            OZONE3
