Have we tried a speciesswap AU where Killie is the Horse and Thunder is the Jocky yet?
(In reference to Killie the Jockey OC and rancid racehorse frenemy O Holy Thunder)
Oh my GOD

HE’s Tall For A Jockey.
HE’s Smaller Than Seabiscuit.
THEY are both more attractive like this.
THEY… actually do fight horse crime.
I learned that there is exactly one (1) family of thoroughbreds in history that express the roan gene.

#Killie#killie and oholythunder#jockeyposting 🏇#thunder absolutely practices Ryan Moore style disambiguation and dematerialising#Killie’s so pretty like this#he’s bang on the borderline for being considered a pony but has the papers to prove 💯 thoroughbred#possibly TOO thoroughly bred

you should talk about your thoughts on rw fanon (looking with huge eyes)
Oh god, there's a lot of major misconceptions have concreted into fanon, mostly around ancient society and ascension.
First things first! Ascension is not death! They are entirely separate things treated entirely separately by the text of the game. I can see where the interpretation is coming from, but it doesn't really align with how the text treats either subject. Five Pebbles may want to remove the self destruction taboo, but from his reaction to the rot it's clear that he doesn't want to die. Conflation of ascension and death only comes up as an offhand possibility that pebbs makes on iterator 4chan, when he's going into the possibilities of scenarios that even the other sliverists are doubtful of! (let me make clear that I am not a sliverist by any means)
Ascension is more of talked about as a form of transcendence, yeah? A Bell, Eighteen Amber Beads talks about their sitution as being "To have grasped at the boundless infinites of the cosmic void…", not as them seeking an end to life.
The beta dialogue goes into more detail, mentioning the "infinities of time and space" and the "boundless fractal planes of spirit and reality...", though this dialogue was cut and it's hard to tell how much it reflects the concept as in the released game.
As for the cultural misconceptions... there's A Lot to talk about, but the first that comes to mind is the common conflation of the five natural urges and the christian concept of sin.
It is true that the negation of urges is mentioned by moon as an alternative method of ascension, but much of what we know about the culture of the people who the fandom calls the ancients (which makes discussion of the depths a mess but that's something for another post entirely) points towards the urges not being seen as shameful.
Even the first urge does not seem to be particularly scorned! Being a warrior is presented as a cause for bragging in the Shaded Citadel pearl, being comparable with being an artist and a fashion legend. The second urge, also does not seem to be suppressed. Multiple sources attribute some level of honour to parenthood! The aforementioned pearl also mentions Seventeen Axes, Fifteen Spoked Wheel as being a "Mother, Father and Spouse" without any hint of shamefulness. Nineteen Spades, Endless Reflections expresses pride about having progeny, mentioning it alongside their owned land and esteem among their peers.
After some peer review, an esteemed friend has told me to add a section on purposed organisms as well! This is not so much my area, so I might be a bit off on some things.
As moon says, the majority of purposed organisms were tubes in boxes, and that the primal fauna of the world are almost entirely extinct. A lot of the fandom seems to ignore the first part, and i can't say I blame them, but the evolution of the creatures is so much weirder than people think.
Concept art for the creatures has this interesting quality to it, where the organic parts of the creatures have an almost... melty quality to them.

In the concept art, the flesh appears as if it's almost defying the machinery to form an animal shape. It's as if it's conquering its own artificiality the way the foliage grows over the (stone, brick and concrete, not mostly metal as some think!) ruins.
Of course, it's hard to really tell how much of this reflects the finalised concept, most of the integration is much smoother in the game, in line with a seamless kind of biomechanical design. There was always an intention of biomechanical strangeness, as shown in this screenshot of the devlog before the term "slugcat" even existed!
That said, the melty nature of the concept art shows a level of wild change inherent the biomechanical nature of the creatures, as if they truly are the result of these "tubes in boxes" almost revolting against their own boxes.
and considering centipedes... some tubes may not have had boxes in the first place!
#rain world#rain world lore#rainworld#rw spoilers#please note! my role in downpour development does not make me an authority on what is canon or not!#my domain is entirely within challenge mode and arena which aren't canon anyway#my lore analysis is just lore analysis with no looks behind the scenes of anything vanilla#downpour was made as a fan expansion and the rewrites were just done directly by james#we didn't get any disambiguation on the lore (and thank fuck for that honestly. analysis is the best part)#though the hills ARE made of bricks#this is canon not because i say so but because it is visibly true in some areas of the game. part of the text and thus canon. weep.#i could go into more detail on most of this! purposed organisms aren't my area of expertise tho so i might be a bit shaky on some of that#anyway if anyone has any fact checking to do. please do so#media analysis is a dialogue!

I want an accomplice. I want an eager traitor, a willing piece of bait. I don't care if they say they're a lesbian, or bi, or a "straight man" - as long as they have a fertile pussy, and a sweet little girlfriend to offer me.
I want to lure their girlfriend over one day - with a picture of their wet, needy cunt, and a text begging for her to come fuck it. And then have the girlfriend find them lying on their bed, bound and gagged, helplessly pleading with their eyes - and me hiding behind the door.
It would be so fucking satisfying to force her down on top of my bound-up bait so that I could rape her from behind. To have that wet pussy she'd come over to taste rubbing against hers every time my hips hit her ass. To see my cum leak out of my victim's cunt and right into my little helper's.
I don't even know which one I'd rather knock up. If my seed took root in the girlfriend, my accomplice could try to convince her to keep it, could tell that they loved her so much that any baby she gave birth to would be a blessing. But if it was the bait who conceived for me, they wouldn't need any convincing - they could just tell their girlfriend that no matter what had happened, they couldn't blame it on their baby-to-be. And she would just have to watch them grow, knowing that every drop of the cum that had bred her beloved had leaked out of her own pussy.
And all the while, my little traitor would be rubbing their pussy frantically beneath the covers every time their girlfriend fell asleep - knowing that they'd carefully framed the picture which drew her over to be raped, and chosen every word that pulled her in.

Hi! What's the difference between calico and tortoiseshell with high-white, or are they the same colour? Google isn't being very helpful :(
Sorry for the delay in answering this ask, anon!
Calico is a term used to describe when a cat is ~60% white, when you could see a cat and go "this is a white cat with mottled patches" instead of "this is a mottled cat with white". Due to the fact it's a personal disambiguation, a lot of difference sources say different things. It's personal, and depends on a lot in a cat.
Another disambiguation used is how "mottled" the patches are, but that is caused by white patterning. The less space that the patches have to grow onto in the embryonic stage, as white grows first, and the base (and red) fills the area left with as much as they can, causing larger and thicker patches to form.
The image on the left is a tortoiseshell, while the image on the right is a calico, in my eyes. They are caused by the same gene being active in XX cats (XOXo). In the two images, its very easy to tell the difference.
Now, here is a tortoiseshell with white compared to the same cat. Arguably, the cat on the left is a calico, just as the right image could be argued it's a tortoiseshell with white.
It's an entirely personal disambiguation.

Is it a gross oversimplification to say that there is no art without ambiguity? That art lacking ambiguity is merely propaganda?
#thinking about how in severence the innies are like dreamers#and the outties are the waking mind#and neither of them understand the mysterious and important work that the brain is doing#sifting collating and rearranging the thoughts and memories to try to disambiguate the world as if that's possible#which is why mark s who just wants to escape reality is so mysteriously good at it#and why irving is an artist and why art and the literal meaning of art plays such an important part in the company

You’ve made a few silly posts about your agent having to deal with your genre-hopping body of work and I wanted to ask on a more serious note if that’s been an issue at all. I and do everything from literary short stories to YA fantasy to thrillers to experimental horror, and I’m aware that a lot of agents and publishers discourage working in so many genres; it’s better for marketing to have Your Thing. And plenty of writers use pen names for different genres, but I was just curious about your opinion as someone who doesn’t do that and who publishes several genres under the same name.
It hasn't been an issue with my agent, but it's something she knew about me going in. When we had our first call and she offered representation, that was one of my key questions: she's a children's books agent, but I write adult books as well as YA; would she be willing/able to represent my adult books as well, or would I need to find another agent to do that? Although she doesn't typically represent adult books, she was willing to do so for an existing client, and has agency colleagues she can consult for guidance. (Because, obviously, as a children's books specialist she doesn't have as many contacts in the world of adult books, or as much of an idea who to submit to.)
Having said that, we were on sub with The Wolf and His King for eighteen months. Would we have sold it more quickly if she were an adult agent, with the contacts and experience to go with that? I don't know. Quite possibly not -- the editor who ended up buying it, Bethan Morgan at Gollancz, wasn't at Gollancz when we went on sub. When we first approached her (after I'd met her by chance at a friend's book launch), she was working at another publisher in another genre, and asked us to hold on and submit to her in a few months because she was moving somewhere that might be a viable home for the book. And then we accidentally sold three books instead of just the one we were trying to sell!
I think there are pros and cons of using different names. I sometimes wish I published my academic work under a different name to my fiction, but it's slightly too late for that now. I do have some projects, such as the paranormal postgrads series, that I intend to use a different name for if they're published -- not secretly (given that I've posted about them a fair bit), but just to provide a degree of separation from my academic work in particular, especially given the overlap of my characters' research with my own. This would also provide more separation from my YA work, which I think would be valuable for these books. It's a shame perhaps not to have that separation between my YA and adult books already, but that's how things have worked out.
I have so far only sold in two genres/categories: YA dystopian/thrillers, and adult fantasy. I don't know what other barriers and challenges I might face if I branch out into more areas than that. However, a major advantage of writing in multiple categories and genres is that, if you're a fast enough writer to be producing more than one book a year, you can publish in multiple categories at once without cannibalising your own audience and without running into non-compete issues.
The main challenge my agent faces is that every time she turns her back I've run off and written something else I wasn't supposed to be writing (because I write very fast), and that, crucially, many of the ideas I come up with are not remotely marketable. I have discussed with her several ideas that, while I love them enough that I'll probably write them eventually, we've both acknowledged are extremely unlikely to ever sell, at all, because the audience is just too small. She's open to the possibility that I might move to being a hybrid author in future and self publish some of these niche books alongside more conventionally marketable trad pub things, but that's very much only an idea at this stage, since nothing is anywhere near being ready for that.
Anyway, basically, my agent is fine with it, but that doesn't necessarily mean she can sell everything I throw at her, or that I'm expecting her to.
#some people add a middle initial for disambiguation and i would do this if i had a middle initial#however finn is in fact my second name and i don't use my first#and i am contemplating swapping them and adding a new middle name. which i have not chosen yet#so that's a slight barrier. i would have to *pick* a middle initial#answered#anon good sir
