Thinking about Durin's immunity to the Sauron-effect.
He sees Annatar from across the forge at Eregion and immediately decides he's sketchy as hell. Why?
Well, the proposal of "rings for mithril" is odd, and he hasn't heard from Elrond and doesn't know what's going on with the elves, and maybe anyone with a bit of distance from the elves' whole issue would think something was off, but I think it's more about who Durin is as a person at this point in his history.
Even after Sauron created a need among the dwarves, Durin was still creeped out by Annatar. He's not suspicious of Celebrimbor in their scenes, more worried for Celebrimbor after getting a whiff of his new friend at the forge. Durin's perspective on Annatar is more in line with ours, with the viewer's, but why?
I think it's because Durin isn't isolated. He's surrounded by love. He has Disa and their kids and even his grumpy dad. Durin loves and is loved. He likes himself, is proud of his family, and loves his friends too, even the elf-brother who ghosted him for more than a decade.
The love that surrounds Durin lifts him up, and he has a solid foundation that's relatively free of self-loathing, and any self-doubt that creeps in he can talk through openly with Disa, a partner who does not mince words or suffer fools (I love them).
(Disa's perspective is tainted by some panic after what happens after the cave-ins, but that clears up pretty fast.)
Sauron-Annatar can't get under Durin's skin right away because Durin's basic and elevated needs are already met, but that's not true for the elves Sauron has manipulated so far.
So much of the elves' lives has isolated them, made them vulnerable to deception that promises the connections they lack or the achievements they didn't think were possible.
But what makes Sauron (emotionally) vulnerable? Possibly the idea that he could be involved in pure creation and make something real and lasting, like the rings, but he can't do that alone, and it doesn't matter because even if there was a spark of light in him at the forge in Eregion initially his motives are ultimately corrupt (and cowardly).
Sauron can't be truly (emotionally) vulnerable because while he can discern desires, he can't empathize. But the dwarves and the elves don't lack empathy, they do lack information and the opportunity, so far, to make more lasting connections between their peoples.

Durin and Disa are such a wonderful and loving couple. They were part of the reason I loved Rings of Power S1 and they continue to grow stronger in S2.
The way they are just there for each other and work to support each other... it's just so sweet and lovely to watch.
The scene in the latest ep where Durin breaks down in front of Disa? The way she just immediately goes into "okay I need to look after you" mode? Love it!
And later, when Durin just looks at Disa with such love after the bat thing? No notes. More of them please

Interesting that they include Adar in the royalty lineup…. Is it because he is being called the Lord of Mordor or is there more to it??
