Was trying to nail down what the blocked gates on the Other Side reminded me of, aside from the Harrowing of Hell imagery, obviously, and that association made the connection click for me - it's the Circles of Seven! Specifically how Shiloh was blocked from going through all those years, and Bonnie getting shocked trying to take the barrier down so others could pass through. I'm going to have so much fun looking for other Dragons in Our Midst/Lockwood & Co parallels now. Of course two of my all-time favorite books (The Empty Grave and Circles of Seven) would remind me of each other, but now I have some proper connections to draw between them!

Billy Bannister and Bonnie Silver + Christmas in Killarney (if that doesn't inspire you, you can also do something generic like 12 Days of Christmas, I'm not picky😂)
(in my head this is set in between The Candlestone and Circles of Seven. Also I kinda adore that song!!!)
Humming a Christmas song to herself, Bonnie headed into the Foley’s living room, cradling a basket full of greenery for the decorations. Billy and Walter looked up at her arrival— the two of them had been tasked with wrapping presents, while Ashley finished up some of the baking.
“Where are the others?” she asked.
Getting to his feet, Billy took the basket from Bonnie, and she shot him a grateful smile as he set it on the coffee table. “Walter’s dad took them out on a sleigh ride with Mom to keep them out of the way while Walter and I wrap presents,” he explained.
“And Prof is helping my mom and Ashley in the kitchen,” Walter added, adjusting the Santa hat he was wearing. “Between you and me, I wouldn’t go in there. There’s a lot of anti-cookie eating sentiments going on.”
“Because you keep stealing them!” came a shout from the kitchen, and Walter offered them a guilty smile.
Covering a laugh, Bonnie said, “I’m sure we won’t have too much longer to wait.”
“Which is good, cause I don’t know how much longer either of us can wait,” Billy joked as Bonnie started sorting through the contents of her basket. “Want some help?”
“Sure,” she said, smiling at him. “Start with the pine branches— I’ll help you figure out where to put them. We’ll work as a team.”
“Sounds like a plan.”

I'm just saying, this sounds like the kind of conversation Walter had with Sir Barlow and the rest of the knights at some point.
*explaining kitchen appliances to my pet medieval knights* The microwave, or Micheal the Wavious, and metal fork, or Sir Silver Prong, are sworn enemies and can never cross paths lest their meeting spell destruction for all.

Poeta despeito

Ok, you said that you would go to coffee with Kaito Kid, and I was instantly reminded of this fan comic and had to track it down. 🤣
And I actually agree these are all good choices. Friend Rat would definitely appreciate a wedding (especially if it was the wedding of a certain king and a certain tavern girl that he unashamedly ships and shares this information with everyone who will listen). And *yes*, Sapphira needs some decent variety of food. And Emain Ablach does indeed have Redwall food vibes, so lunch there does sound lovely. Starflower definitely would enjoy museums, but I could see her in a bookstore too (since she is kinda a librarian). Lucy seems like she has good taste in clothes, so thrifting makes sense.
For the seven characters ask:
Sapphira Adi (Oracles of Fire)
Friend Rat (Oneprince)
Kaito Kid (Detective Conan/Magic Kaito)
Ceana (Song of the Selkies)
Bonnie Silver (Dragons in our Midst)
Lucy Carlyle (Lockwood and Co)
Starflower (Tales of the Goldstone Woods)
Full disclosure going into this: I still don't know either Kaito Kid or Friend Rat. That said, I've heard enough from you about the latter to make a guess, and the former has a wiki page.
Go grocery shopping with — Sapphira Adi (pre-Bones of Makaidos). The girl's been living in a cave halfway between here and Hell most of her life; I bet she'd really appreciate the variety available even in the average Wegmans or Harris Teeter.
Have lunch with — Ceana. I think she'd be a good lunch buddy. (I'm also hoping we can have our meal in Emain Ablach, 'cause the food there seems to be Redwall-quality.)
Have coffee with — Kaito Kid. He's the one I know the least about, and this is the safest choice, I think.
Go thrift shopping with — Lucy Carlyle. This one is a little bit process of elimination, but I also do like the idea.
Explore a museum/art gallery/aquarium with — Starflower. I think she'd enjoy the opportunity to discover new wonders.
Go the library/bookstore with — Bonnie Silver. It'll provide a conversational topic if we want to talk (which we'll desperately need, because we're both introverted-ish), but it's also an activity that allows for just doing your own thing in the same space.
Have as a plus-one at a wedding — Friend Rat, because that choice feels right. I get the impression that he'd appreciate a good wedding.
#you got detective conan from the library?!#that's amazing#is this my fault? 😂🤔#in case you didn't know kaito actually has his own manga too#it's actually older than detective conan and much shorter#it gives some insight into his motivations#seven characters ask#asks answered#diom#oof#lockwood and co#dcmk#oneprince#tales of the goldstone woods#song of the selkies

Trying to pick my next book and feeling stuck between continuing the Dragons in Our Midst reread (next up is Eye of the Oracle, and as I get into Oracles of Fire, oh man, am I ready for Elam and Sapphira again? My heart!) versus a long overdue Circle series reread (probably starting with Black, since it's been a while, and while starting the circle with Green is an interesting experiment, I remember thinking I strongly preferred the narrative and could follow it better starting with Book One as opposed to Book Zero). I've been feeling like it would be good for me to read some Christian romance, for Reasons™, and either option is good for that - I guess technically maybe I'd get to it a little faster with Black, if I remember the timeline for Thomas and Rachel correctly, but that doesn't really matter. The Circle series keeps me going on the current sci-fi kick; DiOM means less investment to shift gears because I'm already partway through the series. I wanted to reread the Circle series a couple years ago, but a pandemic plot hit a little too close to home, lol. Thought about making a poll to have the Tumblr besties decide for me, but apparently that's not something I can do yet, so I guess I have to make my decisions the old-fashioned way!
